What formats and shapes can clips have?

Three outputs: a video clip cut from the YouTube video (YouTube shows), an audiogram (your audio with an animated waveform), or plain audio as an mp3. Four shapes: vertical 9:16 for Reels, Stories, TikTok, and Shorts; portrait 4:5 for Instagram and Facebook feeds; square 1:1 for feed posts; landscape 16:9 for YouTube and X.

Captions burn the spoken words into the clip. Pick one of six looks (Clean, Outline, Box, Spoken, Headline, Word Box), how many words show at once (1 to 6, or a whole line), and the size and position. More options sets the font, letter case, text color, a color or box for the word being said, an outline, a box behind the line, and a shadow. The colors offered are white, black and the colors of the website the show is on; the rainbow dot opens a color picker for any other. The preview shows exactly what the clip will. You can also place your show's logo anywhere on a nine-position grid, and choose whether video fills the frame or shows whole over a blurred fill. Set your favorites once under Preferences in Clips and Thumbs Maker and every new clip starts there.

Upload a brand logo per show under Preferences, and it goes on every clip from that show. If you have split a feed into virtual channels, each virtual channel gets its own logo, so a clip carries the logo of the show it came from.

Before you start

Choose a clear audio moment and a visual identity for it. An audiogram adds an animated waveform and optional captions to audio; it does not need a source video.

Step 1

Open the moment in Clips & Thumbs Maker. In Trim, play the selected audio and adjust its beginning, ending and length. Keep complete words and enough context for a listener who has not heard the episode.

Open the audio moment in the clip editor. Listen around your selection and trim it to a complete thought.

Choose a moment that listeners can understand without seeing the rest of the episode.

Step 2

In Format, choose Audiogram rather than Video or MP3. Choose 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9 for the destination. The audiogram gives audio a visual presentation; it does not create footage of the speaker.

Choose an audiogram format and the shape for its destination. Review the waveform, artwork, captions and show branding in the preview.

Keep the text readable and the waveform clear of important artwork. Check names and specialist words in the captions.

Configure captions and the logo, then play the preview in Finish. Save as Draft keeps the composition; Make Clip renders it. Wait for the finished job in My Outputs, listen to the complete file and check captions before downloading.

Play the preview from beginning to end, then make the clip. Open the completed output and listen again.

Check that the waveform animates with the audio, the captions are legible and the sound is clear before downloading.

Review checklist

  • The selected audio is understandable on its own.
  • Artwork and captions remain inside the frame.
  • The finished audio and animation play correctly.

If you get stuck

The captions are difficult to read

Adjust the caption appearance and review it against the chosen artwork.

The selection cuts off the point

Extend the trim to include the speaker’s conclusion.
