Account and managing your site

Your show syncs automatically every night after you connect it, whether it is a YouTube channel, an Apple Podcasts show, or an RSS feed. Podspun also updates transcripts and auto-generated highlights, summaries, and other insights. No extra work needed.

Podspun only pulls in your public episodes, but you still have control over what shows up. You can hide any episodes you don't want on your Podspun site, so even public videos can stay behind the curtain if you'd like.

Episodes play audio or video directly on the episode page, including in previews before a transcript is ready. Select the audio cover to play or pause it.

Podspun pulls the transcript from your source where one exists (YouTube, Apple Podcasts, or your RSS feed). When a source has no transcript, the Dataweaver transcribes the audio for you. If a word looks off, the cleanest fix is to correct it at the source so the next sync picks it up. Ads that are part of the episode, such as a sponsor read recorded in the show, stay in the transcript. Ads that your podcast host inserts into each download are left out. Many hosts add those to every download, and each download can carry different ones, so they are not part of the episode and most listeners never hear them.

Some hosts publish the length of each episode as it was uploaded (Omny, Simplecast and Spreaker do), and Omny also publishes where it inserts ads. Podspun checks the download against that and transcribes only the episode as uploaded. When a host publishes nothing, or the download does not match, Podspun downloads the episode again a few days after it is transcribed and compares the two copies. A stretch that only one copy has is an inserted ad, and its lines come out of the transcript and out of Ask & Search.

On the episode page, the player marks the ads each listener actually hears with an Advertisement line and its length.

A few episodes have no captions at the source and no audio Podspun can fetch to transcribe. The Dataweaver keeps retrying for about a week after import, then marks them so they stop holding up your channel's progress. The channel's Transcribed stat in Podspun Dataweaver shows the count. Those episodes still appear on your site; they just have no searchable transcript. If captions appear at the source later, a re-sync picks them up.

Checklist is one list of everything left to set up, for your account and for each of your websites. A ring shows how many tasks are done. Anything that needs attention (a failed charge, a preview about to lock) comes first, then the single next step, then a card per website with its own launch tasks, then the remaining tasks grouped as Most important and Nice to have. Finished tasks collapse into Done. The number beside Checklist in the sidebar is how many tasks are still open. An optional task, such as bringing channels into the Dataweaver, has a Dismiss button: a dismissed task leaves the list and the count, and moves to Dismissed at the bottom, where Put back returns it. A website's Overview shows the same tasks for that site until they are all done.

Every website has a What this website is section in Site Settings, with four choices: Podcast, Social Media, Artist, and Filmmaker. Each choice adds the pages and blocks that kind of site starts with, and more than one can be on. Turning a choice on adds its pages; nothing you already have is removed.

A site made before this setting existed shows its current behavior pre-checked, with a note saying so. Nothing on the live site changes until you save. Saving a type the site already had only records it; new pages are created only when you newly turn a type on.

Podspun uses your data only to power AI questions in that session, and does not store the results.

Only when your source is YouTube, and only when the channel is set to Ads play. Each YouTube channel has a How videos play setting (in Podspun.com Setup) with three modes.

Normal play uses our interactive player with the live synced transcript; YouTube does not run ads on that kind of player. Ads play uses YouTube's standard click-to-play player, which is the kind YouTube can run ads on, so pick this if ad revenue matters (the trade-off is the transcript no longer highlights live). Link out to YouTube sends viewers to YouTube to watch.

When ads do run, the revenue goes to YouTube and the video owner. Podspun does not add, control, sell, or take a share. Even on Ads play, YouTube decides ad availability play by play, so no single play is guaranteed an ad, and your video needs to be monetized in YouTube Studio.

Your published episodes stay where they already live on YouTube, Apple, or your RSS host. Podspun reads from them, it does not hold them. Cancel a website or an API key any time and the underlying shows are still yours.
