How does Podspun know where a post was taken and what its photos show?
For Instagram and TikTok posts, three things are read. The location you tagged when you posted (TikTok also gives the address) is the strongest sign of where the post was made. Every photo in the post, including every slide of a carousel, is looked at by a vision model, which describes it, gives it tags such as beach, food, museum or sunset, and names a landmark when one is clearly in the picture (the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Pyramid). The caption is read last.
Destinations uses all three, so a post whose caption talks about one place but whose tagged location or photos show another is filed under the place in the photos. A beach on its own is never guessed to be any particular country; only your location tag or the caption can say which beach it is.
On your site, the post popup shows the post's place and what its photos show, and the social wall's In the picture filters let visitors narrow to Beaches, Museums, Sunsets and the rest. Ask & Search also reads the photos, so a question about beach sunsets finds posts whose pictures show them. On a site with a Destinations block, it reads the place each post is about as well: a question about one town leads with the posts made there, and a post that lists the town among several places comes after them. New posts are read every hour.
