What is an Evergreen Quiz, and how do I make one?

An Evergreen Quiz is a quiz you write yourself that stays up until you change it. It has no right answers. Each answer adds a point to one of the quiz's results, and at the end people see the result with the most points, for example "You are apparently an Empath." with your write-up, one of your episodes and a button.

To make one, open Quizzes / Games, click New Quiz or Game, pick Evergreen Quiz and choose the website. Then:

  • Results: what people can come out as. Each has a Result Name (only you see it), a Title, a Write-Up, an optional Picture, an Episode, optional Text Under The Episode and a button, which can open a page or an email.
  • Questions: next to each answer, pick which result it adds a point to, or No result. A Help Line under the question is optional.
  • When Two Results Tie: show the first one in the Results list, or ask one more question whose answers each point to a result.
  • Ask For Their Email: Required, Optional (with a Skip) or Don't ask. Emails land in Form Submissions, with an optional newsletter tick.
  • Result Email: set Email Them Their Result to Yes and each person gets their result in their own inbox right after they give their email, sent from your website's name. The email is the result itself: the fields marked Page + email (Title, Write-Up, Picture, Episode, Text Under The Episode and the button), under a Line At The Top you write, such as "Thanks for taking the quiz. Here is your result." Subject is optional; left empty it is the result's Title. Send Me A Test Email sends the first result to your own login email. It needs Email turned on for your account, and each message in Messages says Result emailed: Yes or No.

Download CSV on the quiz's row in Quizzes / Games gives a spreadsheet of everyone who gave their email to that quiz, with a column each for the date, email, result, newsletter tick, whether the result was emailed, and the page.

To put it on a page, add the Quiz block, set Quiz Type to Evergreen and pick the quiz under Which Evergreen Quiz. The settings that only apply to the monthly quiz go away, and the Style is Classic. A Quiz block left on Monthly plays the show's quiz for this month, exactly as before.

An evergreen quiz belongs to a website, not a show, and a website can have several, all on at once. Turn one off from the Quizzes / Games list with Set selected, Turn Off; a Quiz block showing it then shows nothing until it is back on.

Make a quiz they can play.

Create a quiz with different results, episode recommendations and an optional result email.

Before you start

Decide the quiz’s possible results before writing its questions. Each answer should lead meaningfully toward a result, and any recommended episodes should fit that result.

Step 1

Create an Evergreen quiz

Quizzes / Games: Create an Evergreen quiz
Create an Evergreen quiz

Open Quizzes / Games → New Quiz or Game. Choose Evergreen and the intended website, then Start Writing. Evergreen quizzes lead to a result based on answers; they do not score correct and incorrect responses like a knowledge test.

Open Quizzes / Games and create an Evergreen Quiz. Write the results people can receive and decide what each one should recommend.

Keep the differences between results clear so you can write questions that help choose between them.

Step 2

Write the possible results first

In Results, add each outcome. Result Name is internal; Title and Write Up are what the visitor sees. Add a picture, related episode, Text Under Episode and Button Label / Link where useful. Make each result a complete, helpful destination.

Give outcomes distinct meanings before writing the questions. Two results with almost identical write-ups make the quiz feel arbitrary. Use the related episode and button to offer a sensible next action, and check that each link belongs to that outcome.

Step 3

Connect every answer to a result

Write each question and optional Help Line. Add its answer choices and choose the result each answer contributes to, or No result. The result with the most points wins. Review every mapping; an unassigned answer cannot support an outcome you meant it to score.

Write the questions and answers, linking each answer to the relevant result. Add result text and episode recommendations where useful.

If you offer a result email, review its wording and the visitor sign-up experience. The quiz should still be understandable when completed on a phone.

Step 4

Decide how tied results are resolved

Under When Two Results Tie, choose the first result in Results order or Ask One More Question. The extra question shows only the tied choices. If you use order, arrange Results intentionally; the first outcome is the tie-break, not a random winner.

Test answers that tie two results and answers that give one result a clear lead. If one result wins almost every realistic path, reconsider the answer mappings or the distribution of questions instead of treating the tie setting as a scoring fix.

Step 5

Configure email and newsletter consent

Quizzes / Games: Configure email and newsletter consent

Under Ask For Their Email, choose Required, Optional with Skip, or Don’t ask. Newsletter Tick is separate consent. Email Them Their Result needs Email set up on the account; set its subject and Line At Top. A blank result-email subject uses the result’s Title.

The email step appears before the result. Required prevents continuing without an address; Optional offers Skip; Don’t ask does not collect one. Choose based on the experience you want, then test the corresponding path.

Result page and result email use the shared outcome content. Send Me A Test Email sends the first result to your login address. Test delivery before enabling the feature for visitors; adding a newsletter tick does not mean every participant consented.

Step 6

Save, add the quiz block and test every path

Quizzes / Games: Save, add the quiz block and test every path
Save, add the quiz block and test every path

Choose Publish Quiz for a new quiz, or Save when editing an existing quiz. On the website page, add a Quiz block, choose Quiz Type → Evergreen and select Which Evergreen Quiz. Review each result, a tie, and the email or Skip path at a narrow width before publishing. Forms & Messages records responses and result-email status.

The selected quiz belongs to that website. An Evergreen quiz block is separate from the monthly quiz type; choosing the wrong type does not display the quiz you just wrote. Turning a quiz Off leaves a block pointing to it without an active quiz to show.

The responses export includes date, email, result, newsletter consent, whether the result was emailed and the page. Review those fields when checking an actual response; a response record and successful email delivery are distinct facts.

Add a Quiz block to the website and try the quiz as a visitor. Test different answer combinations until you have seen each result.

Check that the result text and episode links match the answers you chose. Review the result email too if you enabled it.

Review checklist

  • Answers lead to the intended results.
  • Every result and recommendation has been tested.
  • The quiz works on a phone.

If you get stuck

You keep getting the same result

Review how each answer is linked to results, then test contrasting answer combinations.

An episode recommendation is wrong

Update that result’s episode selection and follow the link again.
