How does the Hero block work? What are Slides and Fixed Content?

A Hero has two parts. Slides are the backgrounds, and they move: add one for a still banner, or several and they rotate on their own like a carousel. Tick Add copy on a slide to give that one background its own words, which change along with it.

Fixed Content does not move. It stays in one place while the slides change behind it, so use it when you want the same words or buttons on every slide, like a headline or a Watch Now button that is always there. It is off until you press Add fixed content.

A slide's Slide Content setting can also point it at live site content instead of a hand-set background: Latest News Entry shows your newest published article with a Read the Story button, Social Page shows a recent post with a View All Social button, and Live Portrait shows the Portrait's current cover with an Open Live Portrait button. A preset slide fills itself and stays current as the site changes; leave it on Custom to set the background and copy yourself.

With one picture and the Image Layout set to Image Beside Text, more choices appear under it: Split Image Reach (inside the page or to the screen edges), Split Band, Picture Fit (show the whole picture, or let it fill its half), Picture Placement (a cut-out portrait can stand on the bottom edge), Picture Background, Headline Color, and Label Color (the small line above the headline: Default, Highlight, or Accent, all from your theme; Highlight suits a dark band). The color behind the whole hero is the block's Background, in its Config tab. On any hero, the Headline section sets the Headline Size and whether it is in capitals.

Banner Height works on any hero with a picture, whether the picture sits beside the words or runs across the whole banner. Same As Artwork Banners keeps it at the height a cover-art banner uses, cropping the picture to fit, so pages with different banners match. Natural lets the picture decide. Phones keep their own height either way.
