Which website blocks are for filmmakers?

Film Hero, Filmography, Film Details, Film Credits, Festival Selections and Awards, Press Coverage, Film Press Kit, and Where to Watch are in Filmmaker Blocks. They are filled from your website's films (Content, Films) and appear in the picker on a Filmmaker website. People, Events, Reviews and Press Quotes, Downloads, Platform Links, Gallery, Media, Cards, and social blocks stay in the shared sections because they are useful to every kind of website. A shared block can still choose a film as its source.

Film Hero shows the film's backdrop with its Year and Format, the title and the film's Highlight line (the Logline when there is no Highlight). Its About button opens your About page on a website about one film (and is hidden when there is no About page), or the film's own page on a production company's website. Its Watch trailer button opens the trailer on YouTube. A button with nowhere to go is not shown. In the block's settings, Show picks Main film only or All films, as a slider, with the main film first. All films leaves out a film that has only a poster and no backdrop, since a tall poster does not fill a wide slide; the main film always shows. Under Your Own Slides you can add extra slides after the film slides, each with its own picture or video, text and buttons.

Film Details shows the Long Synopsis (or the Short Synopsis), then one row of facts: Directed by (the credits whose role includes Director), World Premiere, Year, Country, Language, Format and Running time, plus Genre when it says something the Format does not. Country and Language come from the Countries and Languages on the film's Details tab, and read Countries and Languages when there is more than one. When the film's Official website is filled in, an Official website link follows the facts and opens that site in a new tab. Under them are the film's Stills; a click opens a still full size. In the block's settings, Stills picks Move by themselves (they drift and stop under the mouse) or Slider with arrows. Both loop.

Film Credits lists the film's people, one per row, with their portrait, role and bio. A list of five or more people where no one has a portrait or a bio is shown as a credit list instead: names and roles in columns, as many as fit across the page. The People block does the same. With no heading of your own it reads Cast & crew when anyone has a Character, and Filmmakers when no one does, as in most documentaries.

Festival Selections and Awards has two displays. Laurel row shows the first six laurels from the film's Festivals & Awards tab, in your order, and is made for a dark band on the landing page; set a Button Link to add a See the full festival run button to the page with the full list. Full list shows a card for each festival screening (an event of the film tagged Festival): its image (the festival's laurel), its dates, the festival, its Note and city, and a Learn more link; an award whose festival has no screening gets a card too. In the laurel row, laurels are repainted in one colour so they read on a light or a dark background. If no award has a laurel, the block shows the full list.

An Events block with a film chosen lists that film's screenings (its events in Events Calendar), one row each: the dates, where, the guests, the venue's logo and a Tickets & info button. The whole row opens the ticket link. Festival screenings are left out because Festival Selections and Awards shows them. The Screenings setting picks Coming up and past, which splits the list by date on its own as dates pass and hides an empty half, or Next 3 coming up for your landing page, which shows nothing when no screening is coming up; add a See All Link to show a See all screenings button. Switch on Host a Screening Button to show "Want to bring the film to your city? Host a screening": on the landing version it shows only when nothing is coming up, and on the full list it sits at the end. It writes to the film's screening bookings contact, or opens your Contact page when the film has none.

Filmography shows every published film as a card with its backdrop, Year and Format, title and Logline, and a View film link to the film's own page. The main film comes first. Switch on Leave Out the Main Film for a Previous Films list on a site about one film. To list feature films and television apart, as a film editor's site does, use two Filmography blocks with Which Films set to Feature films only and Television only: each film is sorted by its Format, and a format that says television, TV or series is television, so a new film lands in the right list by itself. To show only some films, set Which Films to Chosen films and pick them with Choose films: the block shows those films in the order you set with the arrows, such as a festival's Top 10 out of its lineup, and a film that is not published does not show. For a long list, such as a festival lineup, set Columns to Four across or Five across and Card Text to Title, director and running time: each card is then the picture, the title and one line, and a phone shows two across.

A Reviews and Press Quotes block with a film chosen shows that film's Critic Quotes, never its articles. Display picks Quote wall, every quote as a card only as tall as its quote (made for your Press page), or One at a time, one large quote with dots to jump between quotes, made for a dark band on your landing page. It moves on by itself, stops while the mouse is over it, and holds a quote for ten seconds after a dot is clicked. Add a Button Link to show a Read what critics are saying button. A quote whose Link to the Review is filled in opens that review in a new tab, in both displays; one without a link is not clickable. Each outlet's logo is shown in one colour and at one size; an outlet with no logo is shown by its name.

Press Coverage shows the film's Press Articles. Display picks Press page, which shows Press highlights (articles with Highlight on and a photo, as cards) and then More coverage (every other article, listed with its outlet, date and headline); Featured in, the outlets' logos in one row for the top of your Press page (outlets of your articles first, then your critics', each once, up to eight); or Landing, the first four highlights, with a See all press button when a Button Link is set. A display with nothing to show does not appear.

Where to Watch shows one tile per place in the film's Where to Watch list, two per row: the platform, how (Stream, Rent or buy, Free), the Note and Region, and a Watch button. A place outside its Available From and Available Until dates is left out, and when nothing is left the block does not appear. Platform Links, the shared block, still shows its row of buttons.

A Press Kit block with a film chosen shows that film's Press Kit files. Display picks Press room, for your Press Kit page: the poster large on the left, every other file as a line with a preview, its name, what it is, its file type and size (for files uploaded to your website), and a download button, then the film's press contact when there is one. Or Invitation box, for the bottom of your Press page: the first pictures fanned out and an Open press kit button to the page you choose under Press Kit Page. With no files, the block does not appear.

Art & Film · Full walkthrough

Put your film press kit in one place.

A film record supplies its poster, downloadable files and press contact to your website.

Before you start

Choose a film record and collect the poster, downloadable press files and press contact you want visitors to use. Review the files before making them publicly downloadable.

Step 1

Open the film’s source record

Film press kits: Open the film’s source record
Open the film’s source record

Open Content → Films and select the correct title. Confirm its poster and basic details. The film record supplies the Press Kit presentation; avoid entering conflicting information in a separate page.

Open Content, then Films, and select the film. Confirm its title, poster and basic film details.

The film record supplies the website presentation, so correct the source record rather than entering conflicting details on several pages.

Step 2

Add and label the downloadable files

Open the Press Kit tab. Add the files journalists should download and give each a useful name and type. Open the actual files to check versions and quality before saving. These are public downloads when the block presents them.

Open the film’s Press Kit tab and add the downloadable files, using clear labels that tell a journalist what each download contains. Set the press contact in the Details tab.

Open each file yourself and check its contents, image quality and contact details. Remove outdated versions before presenting the kit.

Step 3

Set the press contact and destination

Open Details → Contacts for This Film and set Press Contact Name and Press Contact Email. Left blank, these use the website’s own contact. If you use an invitation box that opens a dedicated kit page, choose the intended Press Kit Page. Confirm the contact and page belong to this film before saving its record.

Use a contact who is responsible for this film’s press enquiries. An invitation to open a press kit and the downloadable pressroom are two presentation modes; their page link and files need to agree.

Step 4

Add the block and test every download

Add the block and test every download

Add a Film Press Kit block and choose the film. Use Display Pressroom for files or Invitation Box for a link into the kit. Review poster, title, contact and each download at desktop and narrow widths before publishing. A kit with no files can be hidden.

Add a Press Kit block to the website and choose the relevant film. Review the public presentation and try every download.

Check that the poster, film title and contact all belong to the same film. Review the block on mobile so the download links remain easy to use.

Review checklist

  • All files belong to the selected film.
  • Downloads open and contain the current material.
  • The press contact is correct.

If you get stuck

The wrong film’s material appears

Check the film selected by the Press Kit block.

A download is outdated

Update the file in the film’s Press Kit tab and test the public download again.
