00:01:02
wow
00:01:03
you know debbie i think i'm finally
00:01:05
convinced that people never learn why do
00:01:08
you look at me when you say that you're
00:01:09
talking about committing crimes right
00:01:11
yeah yeah you break the law you get
00:01:13
busted i mean it's nuts to think any
00:01:15
other way yeah where the offense is let
00:01:17
the great ax fall
00:01:20
say what
00:01:21
that's shakespeare oh yeah i knew that
00:01:23
oh yeah
00:01:25
you did not know that with shakespeare
00:01:26
oh yeah this guy thinks hamlet is
00:01:28
something you get with a grand slam
00:01:30
breakfast at denny's
00:01:31
well yeah but with the chopped ham and
00:01:33
onions yeah it's like a western uh i
00:01:36
guess that's probably as close as we're
00:01:38
going to get to a smooth segway to our
00:01:40
first story it involves a surveillance
00:01:42
camera showing a waitress fast asleep
00:01:44
while a thief pulls a fast one yes be
00:01:48
very quiet very quiet we're hunting a
00:01:50
westerly wobble here's caught on camera
00:01:57
it's getting so a bartender on the
00:01:59
graveyard shift can't even catch a few
00:02:01
z's meanwhile the only customer in this
00:02:04
all-night vegas lounge was not a model
00:02:07
citizen
00:02:08
he just walked down the behind the bar
00:02:11
and picks up the cash out of the
00:02:12
register he doesn't grab a run because
00:02:14
she's sound asleep and
00:02:17
walks out with the cash
00:02:18
is she lays their sleeping mr sandman
00:02:21
tiptoed out with 800
00:02:23
when his victims are conscious he has to
00:02:25
go to a little more trouble
00:02:27
impersonating an officer he would gain
00:02:29
their confidence by using such methods
00:02:31
as pretending to make a phone call to
00:02:33
wake up a judge to ask a judge to issue
00:02:36
a search warrant on the case that he was
00:02:38
currently working at this establishment
00:02:40
the imposter punctured a water pipe then
00:02:43
told the bartender there was a flood in
00:02:44
the men's room flood you know and so
00:02:47
i mean here i'm thinking the man is is a
00:02:50
highway patrolman i mean you know and
00:02:52
i'm alone i think that's this is fine
00:02:54
i'll go back and check it out the crook
00:02:56
got away with 300
00:02:58
but he left behind his bogus business
00:03:00
card we contacted that highway patrolman
00:03:04
and asked him
00:03:05
who fit this particular description that
00:03:07
he might have given a car to
00:03:09
jackpot the trooper had arrested the guy
00:03:12
two months earlier and had given the guy
00:03:14
his card
00:03:15
the criminal was positively identified
00:03:17
by several witnesses it is not known
00:03:20
whether the bartender woke up to testify
00:03:25
i never trust a business guy no no you
00:03:27
should no hey i bet this next crook
00:03:29
wishes that he'd never been born yeah
00:03:31
well of course but if that was the case
00:03:33
he wouldn't have had anything to write
00:03:34
his stick up note on that's true here's
00:03:36
another case of a guy who's not going
00:03:38
anywhere because of his poor choice of
00:03:39
stationary
00:03:41
[Music]
00:03:47
one of the funniest stories uh we've had
00:03:48
in recent memory was a robbery at the
00:03:51
local diner it's the penguin diner along
00:03:54
a major highway here and this person
00:03:56
pulls up in a car with some friends
00:03:58
jumps out of the car runs in the front
00:04:00
door to diner and approaches the cashier
00:04:03
with a note and on the note it says give
00:04:05
me the money or i'll shoot and he has
00:04:07
his hand in his coat like he has a gun
00:04:10
and the girl's scared to death
00:04:12
opens the drawer but doesn't even react
00:04:14
to stands there he reaches over grabs
00:04:15
hands full of
00:04:17
money she's looking down at the note
00:04:18
while the note's written on the back of
00:04:20
the man's birth certificate
00:04:22
he runs out of the diner hops in the car
00:04:24
when they pull the car over the man's
00:04:25
stolen the car
00:04:26
and still has the birth certificate with
00:04:29
the hold of their written on the back of
00:04:30
the birth certificate
00:04:31
which uh is obviously one of america's
00:04:33
dumbest criminals
00:04:35
anytime there's a crime there have to be
00:04:37
lawyers involved right
00:04:39
true or words were never spoken young
00:04:41
man tonight we're going to run a couple
00:04:43
of legal briefs up the flagpole for your
00:04:45
consideration the first involves perhaps
00:04:47
the most civic-minded sought you've ever
00:04:49
encountered here's a new feature we call
00:04:52
america's dumbest lawsuits
00:04:58
i was circuit judge a number of years
00:05:00
ago and a man was charged with driving
00:05:02
under the influence
00:05:03
his story was that he was standing on
00:05:06
the corner
00:05:07
and minding his own business
00:05:08
drunk but minding his own business when
00:05:12
a runaway car came down the street
00:05:14
without a driver
00:05:15
and uh
00:05:17
obviously endangering the life and limb
00:05:18
of everybody around
00:05:20
and so being the good citizen that he
00:05:22
was he risked his own life as well as
00:05:25
his probation and ran and jumped in the
00:05:27
car and brought it to a safe halt and
00:05:30
then lo and behold a police officer came
00:05:32
up and arrested him for driving under
00:05:34
the influence just goes to show you no
00:05:37
good deed ever goes unpunished
00:05:41
and speaking of dumb lawsuits a woman
00:05:43
with a fertile mind and other fertile
00:05:45
parts sued a manufacturer of
00:05:47
contraceptive jelly claiming that its
00:05:50
product failed to do its job she stated
00:05:52
with no awareness of her naivete that
00:05:55
she ate the jelly on her toast
00:05:58
faithfully for two weeks before sexual
00:06:00
involvement and still managed to become
00:06:02
pregnant
00:06:04
as you might guess she did not win her
00:06:06
case talk about a story that leaves a
00:06:08
bad taste in your mouth huh
00:06:10
okay here's one more dumb lawsuit
00:06:15
in one case
00:06:16
the plaintiff
00:06:18
was suing the national television
00:06:20
networks the cia
00:06:23
and a particular judge
00:06:25
suing the the cia
00:06:28
because they were
00:06:29
stealing his thoughts watching him with
00:06:32
their satellite technology
00:06:35
watching his moves his mannerisms
00:06:37
taking his thoughts and selling them to
00:06:40
the national television networks who
00:06:42
were giving his thoughts and his the way
00:06:45
he acted to newscasters television
00:06:48
anchors
00:06:49
national commercials sitcom characters
00:06:52
and making money off of it
00:06:54
he was suing the particular judge
00:06:56
because the judge had dismissed his
00:06:59
previous case against the national
00:07:00
networks and the cia
00:07:08
[Music]
00:07:09
hey here's another dumb law in florida
00:07:12
men may not be seen in public wearing a
00:07:14
strapless gown
00:07:17
boy
00:07:18
i bet that really puts a crimp on
00:07:20
fashion in south beach huh all right
00:07:22
well i think we thought about that
00:07:23
enough
00:07:24
you know it's hard to find good help
00:07:26
these days but we've learned of a man
00:07:27
who go to great lengths just to get work
00:07:30
his actions are beyond the call of duty
00:07:32
and they put him in line for a promotion
00:07:34
into america's dumbest excuse
00:07:40
my partner and i were on patrol early
00:07:42
one morning and he observed the vehicle
00:07:44
parked in a local restaurant parking lot
00:07:46
which he recognized as one that had been
00:07:48
stolen he ran the plates determined that
00:07:51
it was the vehicle that had been stolen
00:07:53
here
00:07:54
in in boulder city two days prior i made
00:07:56
contact with a cook inside pizza hut and
00:07:58
he advised me that the the car was there
00:08:00
when he came in in the morning that he
00:08:02
was the first employee that come in that
00:08:03
morning
00:08:04
i checked with a couple of the other
00:08:05
employees and found that the vehicle
00:08:07
wasn't there went back in later to
00:08:09
interview him again
00:08:10
and
00:08:12
advised him that his story just didn't
00:08:14
didn't wash
00:08:15
didn't make sense
00:08:16
after we talked to him for a while he
00:08:18
finally admitted to the fact that he had
00:08:19
stolen the vehicle he said that he'd
00:08:21
gotten off work two days prior and went
00:08:24
over to a buddy's house and it got late
00:08:26
and the bus stopped running so he stole
00:08:28
the car so that he could get home he
00:08:30
missed the bus again coming to work and
00:08:32
he didn't want to get fired
00:08:34
so he went in and took the same car that
00:08:37
he'd stole the first time and parked it
00:08:38
in the parking lot of where he was
00:08:40
working and went in and went to work
00:08:42
i think his morals were a little bit
00:08:43
screwed up there
00:08:45
he he didn't want to get to work late
00:08:47
however he didn't have a problem
00:08:48
stealing a vehicle to do it
00:08:50
so he did make it to work however he
00:08:52
doesn't have a job there anymore
00:08:57
are you that committed to your job
00:08:58
debbie no i think that's the reason why
00:09:00
god made taxis hey have you ever seen
00:09:02
that old show shopping spree where
00:09:04
people see how much stuff they can cram
00:09:06
into a shopping cart in a short amount
00:09:08
of time well this next guy would
00:09:10
probably be a big winner considering how
00:09:12
much stuff he could stuff into his pants
00:09:15
he and his skulking accomplice are front
00:09:17
and center for tonight's blue light
00:09:19
special
00:09:20
[Music]
00:09:24
just how much stuff can one guy fit into
00:09:26
his pants well this young man seems all
00:09:28
prepared to set a world record he starts
00:09:30
with a big item to clear the way in case
00:09:32
anything else catches his eye and it
00:09:35
does he decides he wants this yeah
00:09:38
that's just great and you know what it's
00:09:40
like eating salted peanuts because he
00:09:42
just doesn't know when to stop but
00:09:44
fortunately for him store security will
00:09:46
be glad to offer assistance in that
00:09:47
matter
00:09:50
what would you get if you combined ma
00:09:52
barker ivana trump and minnie pearl well
00:09:55
you'd get the kind of story you're about
00:09:56
to see let's head up to saranac lake new
00:09:59
york
00:10:00
case that comes to mind that was
00:10:02
evolving two criminals that weren't too
00:10:05
smart involved
00:10:06
a jewelry store where they went into
00:10:09
the jewelry store during business hours
00:10:12
well the two people came into the store
00:10:13
and one of them was a regular customer
00:10:15
of ours hi how are you fine thank you
00:10:17
i'd like to see some chains when she
00:10:19
came in there was nothing unusual about
00:10:21
it other than the fact that there was
00:10:22
somebody floating back by the door one
00:10:24
subject distracted the clerk while the
00:10:26
other subject commenced to take gold
00:10:29
change and reigns and stuff from the
00:10:31
counter
00:10:33
we got called after they had left the
00:10:35
store because the clerk noticed a large
00:10:36
amount of jewelry missing
00:10:39
since we knew who they were
00:10:41
we called the police and said
00:10:43
so-and-so was just in here and robbed us
00:10:45
and they live right across the street we
00:10:47
saw him just go into the apartment if we
00:10:48
go over there
00:10:49
and see if we can get our chains back
00:10:51
we'd appreciate it people that
00:10:53
were in the store made a description of
00:10:54
two subjects that lived across the
00:10:56
street
00:10:57
on a way across the street we noticed
00:10:58
the female subject walking into an
00:11:00
apartment building started talking to
00:11:02
her while i was talking to her i noticed
00:11:03
that she had
00:11:04
large amounts of gold chains and and
00:11:07
earrings and rings on her body where did
00:11:09
you get all the chains around your neck
00:11:11
uh that young man right there they were
00:11:13
gifts the funniest part about this was
00:11:15
all the stuff that she had just taken
00:11:17
she forgot to take the price tags off
00:11:19
her and the price tags from the jewelry
00:11:20
store is still hanging on
00:11:22
when we asked her where she got the
00:11:24
jewelry from she said it was a gift from
00:11:25
her
00:11:26
arrest at this time you're boyfriend
00:11:27
which case by the back
00:11:29
the female subject and her boyfriend
00:11:31
were both convicted for the grand
00:11:32
marching charge
00:11:34
now when she receives presents from her
00:11:36
boyfriend she receives him at the county
00:11:37
jail
00:11:40
[Music]
00:11:45
coming up later a guy who should have
00:11:46
thunk about the pot in his trunk but now
00:11:48
with news that requires you to pull
00:11:50
vault across the credibility gap yeah
00:11:53
here's daniel with adc headlines

00:12:01
an opportunist in memphis robbed a
00:12:03
flower shop of 40
00:12:05
then called the police to report himself
00:12:07
believing that he could cash in on their
00:12:09
program to give a one thousand dollar
00:12:11
reward to citizens for turning in a
00:12:13
crook
00:12:14
new i don't think so bucko
00:12:16
a 71 year old lady in carlsbad new
00:12:19
mexico bashed a swindler selling bogus
00:12:21
magazine subscriptions to her 89 year
00:12:24
old mother when she realized a con was
00:12:26
being perpetrated she attempted to call
00:12:28
the police but the man repeatedly hung
00:12:30
up the phone incensed she picked up the
00:12:33
phone and hit the con artist in the face
00:12:35
with such force that according to her
00:12:37
statement the dial went one way and the
00:12:39
receiver went the other at that he left
00:12:42
very quickly and here's another story
00:12:44
from new mexico this time santa fe a man
00:12:46
protested being charged with driving
00:12:49
while intoxicated yes he admitted that
00:12:51
he had consumed 10 beers and yes he was
00:12:55
mowing weeds along the road on his
00:12:57
tractor when he unwittingly plowed down
00:12:59
a fence dragging it and a mailbox behind
00:13:02
him but
00:13:04
he argued that the tractor was
00:13:06
technically not a vehicle
00:13:08
and therefore he should not be charged
00:13:11
of course he he lost that one and that
00:13:13
closes the file on adc headline news

00:13:24
if this man in san diego wanted to avoid
00:13:26
drawing attention to himself he should
00:13:28
have just remained calm
00:13:29
but he knew he'd been drinking too much
00:13:31
and that he probably shouldn't be
00:13:32
driving and he thought the police might
00:13:34
be on to him i suppose he was so busy
00:13:36
having a panic attack that he forgot to
00:13:38
pay attention to steering the car we'll
00:13:41
let the officer explain
00:13:43
i just got off a freeway off ramp and i
00:13:45
see this car coming up a parking lot and
00:13:46
get onto the street and going the
00:13:48
direction that i'm gonna be going so
00:13:49
when my life turns green i pull in
00:13:50
behind him well he goes down about two
00:13:52
blocks gets in a left-hand turn lane and
00:13:54
i figure oh well he's doing okay so far
00:13:56
if he does all right in this turn into
00:13:57
this residential area i'll just get back
00:13:59
on the freeway well i see the guy reach
00:14:01
up for the rear view mirror and all of a
00:14:03
sudden he sees me in the mirror big
00:14:05
little look comes up on his eyes that
00:14:06
deer and the headlights kind of look and
00:14:08
he's seen us in oh geez so light turns
00:14:12
green he turns left runs right into a
00:14:14
telephone pole well we pull
00:14:16
unfortunately he's not hurt say hey
00:14:18
buddy what happened he said what's this
00:14:19
high and i didn't know what to do i said
00:14:21
well you know what's the problem he says
00:14:23
well i've been drinking i'm not not only
00:14:25
am i not supposed to be drinking i'm not
00:14:26
supposed to be in a bar i'm on probation
00:14:28
what do you mean
00:14:29
i just spent six months in the local
00:14:31
jail and only got out two weeks ago and
00:14:33
i said well
00:14:34
but we we have to take you to jail
00:14:36
you've had too much to drink says well
00:14:37
don't take me to the city of industry
00:14:38
jail and i said why not he says that's
00:14:40
the one i just got out of two weeks ago
00:14:42
i just spent six months there i said oh
00:14:44
i'm sorry that's the jail we gotta go to
00:14:47
when we walk into the jail and the
00:14:48
deputy in there turns around look says
00:14:50
charlie what are you doing here it is hi
00:14:53
deputy i'm back again he says what
00:14:56
happened he says you know the reason he
00:14:58
says oh geez he walks him off comes back
00:15:00
to me and says hey
00:15:02
i mean i hate to see this kid back in
00:15:03
here he's pretty good kid but obviously
00:15:04
he's got a drinking problem but this was
00:15:06
the best car washer we've ever had we're
00:15:07
happy to have him back so what's
00:15:09
happening now he's been in the next 18
00:15:11
months washing cars in the city of
00:15:13
industry jail
00:15:17
hey here's another marijuana story for
00:15:18
you this one from stillwater oklahoma a
00:15:21
man thinks his biggest problem is a flat
00:15:23
tire but when help arrives he's in a
00:15:25
world of hurt see what we mean
00:15:28
about a year ago i was on routine patrol
00:15:31
and a vehicle passed my unit and as the
00:15:33
vehicle passed and those had a flat tire
00:15:34
guy was driving on a flat tire
00:15:36
so i turned around and pulled him over
00:15:38
he hopped out he was all upset and
00:15:40
excited that he couldn't get the spare
00:15:43
onto his car he didn't know how to take
00:15:44
his hope cap off
00:15:46
so i went and looked at his car and saw
00:15:48
that it's a hubcap that needed a key to
00:15:49
take it off
00:15:51
told him to look in his glove box key
00:15:52
would probably be in there
00:15:54
he went and did it and found it and took
00:15:55
his sub cap off so i went to leaf to go
00:15:58
on about my business
00:15:59
he asked me we changed my tire man
00:16:01
changed my tire for me it's like no i'm
00:16:03
not going to change your tire for you
00:16:04
i'm leaving so i went to get my car and
00:16:06
you just kept begging please change my
00:16:07
tire i said i'll help you i'll teach you
00:16:09
how to do it
00:16:10
so he goes all right so i go back up
00:16:12
there and i tend to get spare out of his
00:16:14
car and he gets a spare out the trunk as
00:16:16
he gets a spirit he goes right over
00:16:18
there in the corner of the trunk on the
00:16:19
right hand side there's a tool to get
00:16:21
those tools for me so i went ahead and
00:16:23
got the tools out for them as i reached
00:16:24
into the component that showed me i
00:16:26
pulled out four bags of marijuana
00:16:28
individually packaged for sale i took
00:16:31
him out and i walked up to him i said
00:16:33
what's this he goes well that's oregano
00:16:35
man i said oregano because yeah i sell
00:16:37
to the high school kids is dope so i
00:16:40
opened up one of the bags and smelled it
00:16:41
and knew it to be marijuana and placed
00:16:43
him under arrest at that time for
00:16:44
possession with intent to distribute
00:16:52
now let's do

00:17:06
the movies are filled with famous tough
00:17:09
guy statements like go ahead make my day
00:17:11
and you feel lucky hey you do that quite
00:17:14
well
00:17:15
the officer you're about to meet though
00:17:16
coins a phrase that wasn't just quotable
00:17:18
it was highly effective
00:17:20
witness with us one of the most
00:17:21
stupendous self-arrest of all time and
00:17:24
believe me folks we're not making this
00:17:26
up
00:17:28
[Music]
00:17:32
i was on the narcotics task force and we
00:17:35
were executing a search warrant at a
00:17:36
house
00:17:37
and we used to go in and just take over
00:17:39
the house completely
00:17:40
we're sitting there bagging evidence the
00:17:42
bad guys had already been arrested and
00:17:44
taken to jail and the phone rings
00:17:47
my partner kelly picks up the phone and
00:17:48
starts talking to one of the who's ever
00:17:50
on the phone like he's one of the bad
00:17:51
guys
00:17:52
well who everyone on the other end of
00:17:54
the phone they talked for about five
00:17:55
minutes and finally he realized he
00:17:56
didn't know who he was talking to
00:17:58
so he asks my partner who he's talking
00:18:00
to
00:18:01
and kelly says well who do you think
00:18:02
you're talking to you're talking to the
00:18:03
police
00:18:05
and the guy says oh you're probably
00:18:06
looking for me aren't you
00:18:08
and kelly says yo so once you reach in
00:18:10
your back pocket grab a piece of your
00:18:11
butt and run down to jail and turn it in
00:18:14
and then the guy hangs up and we all had
00:18:16
a good laugh
00:18:17
well about 30 minutes later
00:18:19
we get a call to call down to the jail
00:18:22
so kelly calls down to the jail and the
00:18:25
person he's talking to at the jail
00:18:27
tells him that some guy comes in to give
00:18:29
himself up because kelly had told him to
00:18:31
and they didn't have any warrants or
00:18:33
anything on him they wanted to know what
00:18:34
to do with this guy
00:18:35
we didn't know who he was or anything
00:18:37
kelly told him well interview him and if
00:18:39
he admits to anything arrest him we
00:18:41
didn't really think this guy would do it
00:18:43
and talk about your dumb criminal he
00:18:45
actually goes down to jail and gives
00:18:46
himself up
00:18:49
okay
00:18:50
well it's about time for us to grab our
00:18:52
own bottoms and get out of here thank
00:18:53
you for cleaning that up and thank you
00:18:55

00:18:57

helped make tonight's show possible
00:19:02
hopefully that wins
00:19:04
