00:00:05
tonight on america's dumbest criminals
00:00:07
sure it looks like a parrot but is it
00:00:09
really a stool pigeon it's the middle of
00:00:11
the night and do you know where your kid
00:00:13
is we do and can you really call it a
00:00:16
chase if the pace is this slow stick
00:00:19
around because things are bound to pick
00:00:20
up for a panty wagon full of
00:00:22
perpetrators here on america's dumbest

00:01:08
hi there hey hey thank you debbie now
00:01:11
may i ask you a personal question uh-oh
00:01:13
i don't know anybody else i trust you
00:01:16
make me nervous okay great i'll ask you
00:01:18
here's the question what size shoe do
00:01:20
you wear why in the world do you need to
00:01:21
know my shoes i was just gonna get you a
00:01:23
little gift oh okay in that case five
00:01:25
and a half medium in a combat boot
00:01:27
no no no
00:01:28
but i figured you had tiny little feet
00:01:30
because you have that tiny little body
00:01:32
so it all
00:01:32
goes going somewhere with the spider as
00:01:34
a matter of fact i am our first story
00:01:36
concerns a shoe imprint that led a crook
00:01:39
to being tripped up now if you'd been
00:01:41
the perpetrator of course they would
00:01:42
have had to get out the microscopes can
00:01:45
we just get to the story yeah here's the
00:01:47
evidence that's as plain as the foot on
00:01:49
this lady's face
00:01:54
i'm detective robert stevens of the
00:01:55
derral beach police department crimes
00:01:56
against persons unit one of the most
00:01:58
bizarre cases i've seen in 20 years here
00:02:00
at the police department involved this
00:02:01
sneaker we had a lady that was a victim
00:02:04
of violent crime where the
00:02:06
suspect stomped on her head with a
00:02:08
sneaker the word brooks came up on her
00:02:10
on her head and we did some research and
00:02:12
found out that it was a 1989 high top
00:02:15
basketball sneaker
00:02:17
we
00:02:18
were investigating the crime when the
00:02:19
suspect came in on an unrelated crime to
00:02:21
give another statement and lo and behold
00:02:23
he had on the sneakers they took the
00:02:25
sneakers off the suspect sent that off
00:02:27
to the to the lab with the pictures of
00:02:29
the injury on the lady's head and the
00:02:31
lab was able to positively match the
00:02:33
sneaker to her face as a result of his
00:02:35
stupidity
00:02:36
he's doing 50 years in prison
00:02:41
yeah oh yeah i'm sure it hurt
00:02:44
but
00:02:44
she is fine now and i think she's
00:02:47
getting an endorsement deal from the
00:02:48
sneaker company stop well she coulda
00:02:51
all right now here's a trail that was a
00:02:53
little tougher to follow than a set of
00:02:54
shoe prints it starts off as a simple
00:02:57
robbery but ends in a photo finish see
00:03:00
what we mean as we open the scrapbook on
00:03:02
something to remember me by
00:03:03
[Music]
00:03:09
i was investigating a forgery case where
00:03:13
a person had stolen approximately two
00:03:14
boxes of chicks and in these two boxes i
00:03:16
had learned that two of them were
00:03:18
written by a female well this got me a
00:03:20
little excited
00:03:24
and these were different because all the
00:03:25
others were written with a male
00:03:27
signature
00:03:28
and one of these was written to a
00:03:30
department store which is local in our
00:03:31
city and i went to that department store
00:03:33
but we started looking into this check
00:03:35
and on the back of the check has numbers
00:03:37
which indicates what the person had
00:03:39
purchased
00:03:41
and we found that this person had
00:03:42
purchased a whole bunch of film
00:03:46
me and the
00:03:47
security officer went to the film
00:03:49
department in order to check this out
00:03:51
and when we started looking
00:03:53
we both looked over at the self-portrait
00:03:55
studio of the
00:03:57
department oh that's nice
00:04:01
and we both looked at each other and
00:04:02
says no way we can't believe this nobody
00:04:04
can be this stupid
00:04:05
we went to the department and asked the
00:04:07
girl who worked behind behind the
00:04:08
counter
00:04:09
and she was able to pull up the person's
00:04:12
name their address and phone number all
00:04:15
within right there and sure enough this
00:04:17
person had
00:04:19
purchased all these photos of themselves
00:04:21
and a friend with a forged check
00:04:24
and we looked at each other and we just
00:04:26
couldn't believe that it would be this
00:04:27
easy

00:04:29
those glamour shots you gotta watch out
00:04:32
you've heard of acting like a kid in a
00:04:33
candy store but how does a kid act in a
00:04:36
convenience store especially a kid in a
00:04:38
convenience store long after closing
00:04:40
time well we've got the answer on this
00:04:42

00:04:46
you're watching a 14 year old boy
00:04:48
stocking up on all the things that santa
00:04:50
didn't bring him like cigarettes and
00:04:53
lighters
00:04:54
when he trips an alarm he heads for some
00:04:56
place kinda like the north pole the
00:04:58
dairy case hoping to hide there he
00:05:00
removes cottons of milk but an officer
00:05:03
finds him in under two minutes

hey here's another dumb law in kentucky
00:05:24
a person is considered sober until he or
00:05:26
she cannot hold on to the ground
00:05:32
well you can't hold on to the ground now
00:05:33
that is drunk which reminds me of a
00:05:36
story about two guys who were three
00:05:38
sheets to the wind when they decided
00:05:39
just to sail on home but with the help
00:05:42
of a police officer in pensacon new

00:05:52
several years ago we did a sobriety
00:05:54
checkpoint on the wednesday night prior
00:05:55
to thanksgiving which is a notoriously
00:05:57
um busy drunk driving night probably the
00:06:00
busiest of the year one of the people
00:06:01
that sticks in my mind was a car that
00:06:03
was pulled in on suspicion of
00:06:05
the operator driving while intoxicated
00:06:07
the driver informed us that they were
00:06:10
coming back from a party and that he was
00:06:12
not the designated driver for the drunk
00:06:15
passenger he was the devastated driver
00:06:17
for the joint passenger so of course he
00:06:19
was arrested and uh
00:06:21
neither one of them fared that well that
00:06:23
evening
00:06:25
and you never want to get into a car
00:06:26
with a devastated driver well you want
00:06:29
proof that it's a small world get the
00:06:31
details on how a thief is clearly beaten
00:06:33
by the odds when he tries to use a
00:06:35
stolen credit card it's this week's blue
00:06:38
light special
00:06:42
of all the people shopping at this mall
00:06:44
a crook picked this woman a guy pulled
00:06:47
up in his car and i i thought he was
00:06:48
gonna ask me directions because he just
00:06:50
kind of pulled up and like hesitated a
00:06:51
minute and then he just reached hand out
00:06:53
grabbed my pocketbook and took off he
00:06:55
hurried to this office supply store
00:06:57
where he bought an 800 printer
00:07:00
then decided to continue his shopping
00:07:02
spree at this electronics store
00:07:05
meanwhile the victim notified police
00:07:08
then she called her husband who just
00:07:10
happens to work at the very store that
00:07:12
the purse snatcher and his accomplice
00:07:13
had selected at the same time that he's
00:07:15
talking to his wife on the telephone
00:07:18
an employee at the store is explaining
00:07:20
to him that somebody's trying to use a
00:07:21
stolen credit card when they came in
00:07:23
they were kind of nervous and then
00:07:25
when i started showing them the
00:07:26
camcorders they
00:07:29
uh immediately said we'll take this one
00:07:32
and i thought it was too quick smelling
00:07:34
a rat he alerted the husband you know it
00:07:37
was just too unbelievable to even
00:07:40
to you know to think that these guys
00:07:41
that had just stolen my wife's
00:07:44
pocketbook were here in the store using
00:07:46
my credit card
00:07:47
the woman and her husband were amazed at
00:07:49
their good fortune while the crook felt
00:07:52
beaten to a pulp by lady luck
00:07:56
what are the eyes that lady was robbed
00:07:59
26 miles from her husband's store go
00:08:01
figure
00:08:02
they say that the dog is man's best
00:08:04
friend but it's apparent that the parrot
00:08:07
in our next story makes an excellent
00:08:09
partner for the police except for trying
00:08:11
to make those little bitty bulletproof
00:08:12
vests
00:08:13
now see how polly and the police work
00:08:16
together and getting this crook to talk
00:08:19
my name is michael doherty i'm in
00:08:21
stillwater oklahoma police department i
00:08:23
was assigned to work property crimes
00:08:24
here at the police department
00:08:26
had a report that a burglary had
00:08:28
occurred at a pet store
00:08:32
[Music]
00:08:34
and there you are
00:08:35
there you are
00:08:42
no suspects and no evidence i overheard
00:08:46
a suspect at the police department being
00:08:47
interviewed about a separate case and he
00:08:49
indicated that a reggie had a new parent
00:08:54
i went out and found reggie and i
00:08:57
brought him in for an interview
00:08:59
in the interview i continually accused
00:09:01
reggie of uh the burglary and he sit and
00:09:04
denied it
00:09:05
and running out of everything else i
00:09:07
could think of to say i finally told
00:09:08
reggie i've got a witness that i gave a
00:09:10
polygraph to
00:09:11
he passed it
00:09:12
and told me that you did this burglary
00:09:15
and he demanded to know who this was and
00:09:17
i said the parrot told me you did this
00:09:19
reggie's eyes dropped to the floor and
00:09:22
he thought he thought just a couple of
00:09:24
moments he raised back up and said that
00:09:25
little son of a
00:09:27
driver
00:09:28
met him and took care of him he ratted
00:09:29
me out
00:09:31
he was convicted of that crime we spent
00:09:34
10 years in prison and now we call him
00:09:36

00:10:05
now how much influence does media have
00:10:08
on behavior well apparently a lot at
00:10:11
least for one 68-year-old woman in
00:10:14
seattle she was busted for shoplifting
00:10:16
four packs of cigarettes motivated by
00:10:19
hearing judge wapner of the people's
00:10:22
court say
00:10:23
quote
00:10:24
everybody steals at least once in their
00:10:27
lives
00:10:28
who would have thought judge wapner
00:10:30
could exert that kind of influence on
00:10:32
our culture i mean besides the rain man
00:10:34
an accused bigamist came up with a novel
00:10:38
defense to explain why he agreed to
00:10:40
marry a second woman before divorcing
00:10:42
his first wife
00:10:44
he claimed his overwhelming sexual
00:10:47
desire diminished his mental capacity
00:10:51
insert your own clinton joke here
00:10:54
as
00:10:56
but we wish him well as he shares a cell
00:10:58
with guys whose nicknames are definitely
00:11:00
not einstein or edison if you get my
00:11:03
drift
00:11:04
now for a crime that you'd expect only
00:11:06
in atlantis a woman in trenton new
00:11:09
jersey was robbed of 91 dollars in food
00:11:11
stamps by a tall man wearing a black
00:11:14
rubber suit and flippers who threatened
00:11:17
to shoot her she offered no resistance
00:11:20
because the man was carrying a long case
00:11:22
that she believed might have contained a
00:11:24
spear gun
00:11:26
well there you have your lloyd bridges
00:11:28
sea hunt memorial moment for tonight and
00:11:31
with that we close the file on adc
00:11:33
headline news
00:11:34
ripped from somewhere near the back of
00:11:36

00:11:37
[Music]
00:11:41
thank you daniel you've seen the sign
00:11:43
that says slow men working or slow men
00:11:46
working this next story could have used
00:11:48
a sign that said slow men escaping and
00:11:51
if you think crooks live life in the
00:11:52
fast lane this footage from los angeles
00:11:54
might change your mind
00:11:58
by the time we've picked up the action
00:12:00
if you could call it action one man has
00:12:02
jumped out of the vehicle and made a
00:12:04
break for it on foot
00:12:05
it probably made for a faster getaway
00:12:07
than what you see here
00:12:09
slowing things down even more is the
00:12:11
fact that police officers have flattened
00:12:13
this hit-and-run suspect's car
00:12:15
leaving him to roll on down the highway
00:12:17
on his rims
00:12:18
maybe we should pick up the case on our
00:12:20
end
00:12:21
that's a little more like a chase but
00:12:23
finally the man decides to try something
00:12:25
else or maybe he just got bored he runs
00:12:28
across the train tracks and even takes
00:12:30
time for a little backyard conversation
00:12:33
as he goes along his not so merry way
00:12:36
but all bad things have to come to an
00:12:38
end so he is finally brought to a halt
00:12:40
at a stop sign
00:12:42
so much for living life in the fast lane
00:12:46
okay
00:12:48
you know there's a reason the police
00:12:49
officers wear uniforms so they won't be
00:12:51
naked no it's so that everyone in the
00:12:53
world will know who they are it makes
00:12:56
perfect sense well except to this one
00:12:58
dope dealer who apparently didn't get
00:13:00
the memo on this universal truth here's
00:13:02
a perfect example of why we have a
00:13:04
feature called i'm where you're who
00:13:09
all right i'm steve aldrich i'm a
00:13:10
sergeant with the holly hill police
00:13:11
department
00:13:12
we were working on a narcotics bus one
00:13:14
night and after we made our original
00:13:16
bust i was driving the
00:13:18
car that we'd confiscated back to the
00:13:19
police department i needed a phone
00:13:21
number off the telephone booth so i
00:13:22
pulled into one and this guy approached
00:13:24
me he asked me if he could buy a 20
00:13:27
which was 20 worth of rock cocaine but
00:13:29
not here there's cops everywhere i said
00:13:32
really i said well come on get in
00:13:34
so he goes around the side of the car
00:13:36
starts to get in sitting on my evidence
00:13:38
so i picked it up i put it beside me he
00:13:40
sits down
00:13:41
starts back up he goes just go around
00:13:43
the block
00:13:44
and i'm still wearing all my police gear
00:13:47
so we started around the block
00:13:49
didn't you turn i said how much was that
00:13:51
you needed again
00:13:52
it said a 20. so he gives me two tens i
00:13:55
said okay start driving back to the
00:13:57
police department he looks at my shirt
00:13:58
and says are you in the sheriff's
00:13:59
department i said no drive a little
00:14:02
further he looks over again he goes
00:14:04
police department i said yes let me just
00:14:06
go back to the first part and put him in
00:14:08
the deal
00:14:11
we love it when the bad guys make it
00:14:12
easy for the good guys now some things
00:14:15
like that pretty well defy explanation
00:14:17
and this next story is a case in point
00:14:19
but let me warn you he is not
00:14:21
overdressed for this occasion
00:14:23
after a call for a domestic disturbance
00:14:26
we arrived at a residence
00:14:29
and we noticed some windows were broken
00:14:31
one of the deputies went up and spoke to
00:14:33
the residents of the
00:14:35
the home and found out there had been a
00:14:37
domestic disturbance that had occurred
00:14:40
the male subject had left was someplace
00:14:43
in the general area after that we
00:14:46
attempted to locate the suspect checking
00:14:48
the outbuildings and
00:14:51
all the ground around there and saw some
00:14:54
feet under a vehicle the gentleman
00:14:56
wasn't really
00:14:58
interested in coming out too quickly
00:15:00
which sometimes criminals aren't
00:15:02
interested in coming out right away as i
00:15:04
recall we
00:15:06
actually pulled him out
00:15:07
and found that the man was
00:15:09
naked he was new
00:15:11
back naked
00:15:14
of course we handcuffed him as a
00:15:17
precautionary measure
00:15:19
he seemed to be pretty well intoxicated
00:15:22
and we were able to secure him enough to
00:15:25
place him in my patrol vehicle
00:15:27
and i escorted him to the saline county
00:15:30
jail
00:15:31
in the nude but we were kind enough when
00:15:33
we got him here
00:15:35
to put a blanket around him
00:15:36
i've seen some interesting things but
00:15:39
nothing quite as funny as a naked guy
00:15:41
under a vehicle that i've had to drive
00:15:44
to jail
00:15:45
that's about as funny as it can get in
00:15:48
20 years

all right almost everyone gets a ticket
00:16:06
once or twice in a lifetime not me
00:16:09
yeah yeah but you make florence
00:16:11
nightingale look like mayweather
00:16:13
come on i just try to live right yeah
00:16:15
well maybe you should set up a big
00:16:17
sister relationship with this next crook
00:16:20
he stacked up a whopping 405
00:16:23
thousand dollars in fines okay they
00:16:26
don't take mastercard for that
00:16:28
you probably won't believe the reason
00:16:30
unless you hear it directly from a
00:16:32
police officer involved in bringing the
00:16:33
man to justice check it out
00:16:37
[Music]
00:16:40
i'm captain jeff cameron and we're here
00:16:42
at the redona beach police department in
00:16:44
california well the story that we've got
00:16:47
here is
00:16:48
one about a suspect who walked into
00:16:50
trouble with the police actually we had
00:16:53
an officer respond in the early morning
00:16:55
hours to a suspicious subject
00:16:57
and as part of his investigation he ran
00:16:59
a warrant check on this suspect
00:17:02
as it turned out he had 405 000 with
00:17:04
warrants sounds like a lot of money but
00:17:07
what's even more impressive is those
00:17:08
warrants were for jaywalking
00:17:11
four of the ranks were for crossing the
00:17:13
street outside the crosswalk standing on
00:17:15
the center divider ninety thousand
00:17:19
crossing against a red light
00:17:21
ninety thousand
00:17:23
standing on the center divider another
00:17:25
ninety thousand
00:17:27
crossing against a red light another
00:17:29
ninety
00:17:31
roughly rounded off
00:17:33
it totaled to be about 405 thousand
00:17:36
dollars at once and the only car that he
00:17:38
got into was a police car
00:17:40
so you might say that this suspect
00:17:42
walked into trouble with the police
00:17:45
trouble that warranted his arrest
00:17:49
somebody needs to teach him the rules
00:17:51
hey 405 000 that'll take your house and
00:17:55
your bass boats
00:17:57
yeah you better watch your step
00:17:58
especially if you're in redondo beach
