America's Dumbest Criminals - Season 2, Episode 11 - Caught Off Guard - Full Episode

February 17, 2022 / 19:01

This episode of America's Dumbest Criminals covers various ridiculous criminal antics, including a guard stealing at a security convention, a driver using a squirrel as an excuse for speeding, and a bank robber who inadvertently bought back his own car.

Daniel Butler discusses a surveillance tape showing a security guard stealing a tool from a booth at a security convention, where he was easily caught on camera.

Another story features a woman pulled over for speeding who claims she was trying to avoid hitting a squirrel, which the officer found hard to believe.

A detective in Cincinnati catches a robber by honking his horn in the woods, leading to the capture of a suspect who fled a gas station heist.

The episode also highlights a bank robber who waited for police to arrive after his heist, and a teenager arrested for leaving his homework in a stolen car.

TL;DR

This episode features absurd criminal blunders, including a guard stealing at a security convention and a robber buying back his own car.

a goofy guard caught off guard a silly
00:00:53
squirrel nut speeder you sped up to
00:00:56
avoid hitting a confused crook in not
00:01:00
out of the woods a running robber in one
00:01:02
moment please
00:01:04
i suppose you're going to make some kind
00:01:06
of case out of it
00:01:08
all this and more coming up on america's
00:01:10
dumbest criminals here's your host
00:01:12
daniel butler
00:01:13
this next surveillance tape shows us a
00:01:16
dumb criminal who couldn't have picked a
00:01:17
worse time or place to display his lack
00:01:20
of common sense
00:01:22
the last place you would expect crime
00:01:24
would be at a convention for security
00:01:26
companies this particular booth was
00:01:28
boldly advertising its variety of
00:01:30
surveillance cameras and equipment
00:01:32
available to catch criminals in the act
00:01:35
everyone who walked by could plainly see
00:01:36
that
00:01:37
well our insecurity guard for the
00:01:40
convention decided to overlook the
00:01:42
obvious and steal a tool right off one
00:01:44
of the most watched booths in the
00:01:46
building
00:01:47
of course he was caught on tape from a
00:01:49
variety of angles and arrested within a
00:01:51
matter of minutes probably still
00:01:54
wondering how in the world they were
00:01:55
able to catch him
00:01:59
we weren't sure what category to put
00:02:00
this next story in dumbest defenses
00:02:03
without question wild kingdom probably
00:02:06
call it a hybrid if you want but one
00:02:08
thing we can definitely call it is
00:02:10
dumb
00:02:12
this traffic officer pulled the driver
00:02:13
over for doing 42 in the 25 mile per
00:02:16
hour zone but the lead-footed woman had
00:02:18
a bushy-tailed excuse okay what's the
00:02:21
problem well i stopped you for speeding
00:02:23
you're speeding all the way down from uh
00:02:24
way up there over here oh yeah you're
00:02:26
doing about 45 and a 25. oh yeah well
00:02:29
you know why
00:02:30
no i don't know there was a um squirrel
00:02:34
and i had to
00:02:35
hurry up i thought i was going to hit it
00:02:37
squirrel
00:02:38
the officer thought the squirrel story
00:02:39
was just nuts and wrote the woman to
00:02:41
take
00:02:43
too bad
00:02:44
officer elizabeth mann tells us the case
00:02:46
of a dumb criminal who only got dumber
00:02:49
we had a another burglary in progress
00:02:52
where a
00:02:53
municipal worker had passed by and seen
00:02:55
this guy breaking into a house
00:02:57
so the police officer gets there the
00:03:00
crook's gone but he left a vehicle
00:03:03
in the driveway which was stolen
00:03:05
and when officers looked in the vehicle
00:03:08
they found his driver's license
00:03:10
a year and a half two years later
00:03:12
pretty recently
00:03:15
[Music]
00:03:16
we one of our officers is driving around
00:03:19
spot suspicious vehicle and uh tries to
00:03:22
stop the vehicle vehicle evades them uh
00:03:25
four guys get out and start running well
00:03:27
after they wreck the car four guys get
00:03:28
out and start running stolen car
00:03:30
all four men in the car disperse and
00:03:32
everyone but the driver is caught so far
00:03:35
well lo and behold
00:03:37
he left his driver's license behind same
00:03:39
guy
00:03:40
same guy
00:03:42
when the winter weather nips at their
00:03:43
noses dumb criminals will do their
00:03:45
darndest to come in from the cold even
00:03:47
if it means warming up to the heat i
00:03:50
believe this story will keep you frozen
00:03:52
to your set
00:03:54
it was 10 degrees below zero in
00:03:55
cincinnati when this detective and his
00:03:57
partner answered a call about two guys
00:04:00
sticking up a gas station they quickly
00:04:02
nabbed one of the crooks but the other
00:04:03
one escaped into the woods
00:04:06
while his partner drove the prisoner
00:04:07
back to the station the detective
00:04:09
followed in the bad guy's car a few
00:04:11
minutes into the trip he pulled a u-turn
00:04:13
and went back to the woods by the gas
00:04:15
station playing a wild hunch he blew his
00:04:18
horn
00:04:20
sure enough out of the frosty knight ran
00:04:22
the other club back up a little
00:04:24
all right hold it right there
00:04:27
you know to this day the officer's
00:04:29
partner doesn't believe that's how he
00:04:31
caught the criminal who will never be
00:04:33
known as
00:04:34
mr freeze
00:04:38
officers in dallas texas had set up a
00:04:40
checkpoint to try and catch people who
00:04:42
were driving without an operator's
00:04:44
license that wasn't unusual for cars to
00:04:47
suddenly try to stop and turn around to
00:04:49
avoid the check officers knew that meant
00:04:51
there was a problem and then sent a car
00:04:52
after them on this particular day they
00:04:55
noticed a car see the checkpoint then
00:04:58
pull suddenly off the road however the
00:05:00
car didn't turn around but the officers
00:05:02
could see that the driver and passenger
00:05:04
were frantically switching seats inside
00:05:06
the car then the car proceeded to the
00:05:09
checkpoint
00:05:10
at the checkpoint the officers were
00:05:12
surprised to find out that the new
00:05:14
driver had no operator's license and was
00:05:16
too drunk to walk
00:05:18
they immediately checked the original
00:05:20
driver and found that he was in exactly
00:05:23
the same condition
00:05:24
the officers had them into one more
00:05:26
switcheroo from their vehicle to the
00:05:28
back of one of the waiting police
00:05:30
cruisers nearby sort of a chinese fire
00:05:33
drill
00:05:34
hi i'm daniel butler here with the
00:05:36
bodacious bicarbonate bone month bacon
00:05:38
thank you sharing with you the foils
00:05:41
failures fiasco's faux pas and flops of
00:05:44
the dumb crime world it's not often you
00:05:46
know that the target of a robbery aids
00:05:48
in capturing the culprit it doesn't
00:05:49
happen very often rare a patrol officer
00:05:52
in concord new hampshire was making his
00:05:54
usual evening rounds when some pooper
00:05:56
sleuthers alerted him to a disturbance
00:05:58
at the back entrance of a local store a
00:06:00
lot of stuff to come out
00:06:02
the officer was there to greet the pet
00:06:04
shop pillagers as they came out of the
00:06:05
broken back door stockpiled with pet
00:06:07
supplies and flea collars well how much
00:06:10
did those doggies in the window cost
00:06:11
those little puppy poachers they're
00:06:13
about five to ten years
00:06:15
yeah which is what this bundling bank
00:06:17
robber got when he went in to hold up a
00:06:18
new york city bank on a payday friday
00:06:21
what he didn't realize was that
00:06:23
government employees don't work for free
00:06:25
and it just happened to be payday for
00:06:28
the fbi whose headquarters were located
00:06:30
in the same building what are the odds
00:06:33
when he asked the teller to hand over
00:06:35
the money he heard several guns start
00:06:37
kind of cocking and clicking behind his
00:06:38
head yeah and a very large light bulb
00:06:40
went off over his head dumb dumb dumb
00:06:43
very large indeed tgi the fbi
00:06:48
a spelling miner escaped from the
00:06:50
maryland house of correction and went
00:06:51
straight to his mother's house when
00:06:54
police arrived and asked for bow weevil
00:06:56
he replied my name's not beau weevil
00:06:58
it's bo smith the cops asked him to
00:07:00
spell his last name he couldn't
00:07:03
well can you spell adc a very good d d
00:07:08
d excellent thank you
00:07:11
you win and now let's take a look at our
00:07:13
video of the week you've heard the old
00:07:16
saying hold on to your wallet well this
00:07:19
guy held on to everyone's a couple came
00:07:22
downstairs late one night and surprised
00:07:24
a prowler he grabbed a purse off the
00:07:26
kitchen table and ran out the door the
00:07:28
husband chased after him and reappeared
00:07:30
a few minutes later with his wife's
00:07:32
purse and hand the thief had dropped the
00:07:34
person his escape over the back fence
00:07:37
he had gotten the wallet out of the
00:07:38
purse with all the woman's charge cards
00:07:40
and driver's license and about 20
00:07:42
dollars in cash but what he failed to
00:07:45
get was the three thousand dollars the
00:07:47
woman had in cash in a secret zippered
00:07:50
pocket
00:07:51
if this man had been your average
00:07:53
ordinary thief he might have gotten away
00:07:54
with it but he was one of america's
00:07:57
dumbest criminals
00:07:59
you see most per snatchers will jettison
00:08:01
the person the nearest trash can as soon
00:08:03
as they snatch it but this guy had kept
00:08:05
every purse every wallet every piece of
00:08:08
id and every credit card he had ever
00:08:10
stolen no i'm not kidding each wallet
00:08:12
represented 18 months in jail and we
00:08:15
understand that the police are still
00:08:16
counting
00:08:18
[Music]
00:08:20
a teenager still in the pre-graduate
00:08:22
stage of his criminal career stole a car
00:08:25
with a few buddies and took it for a
00:08:26
joyride they left it in a field and made
00:08:28
a clean getaway or so they thought one
00:08:31
of these bozos had left his homework in
00:08:34
the car
00:08:35
indeed the freshman must have been very
00:08:37
surprised when the officer knocked on
00:08:38
his door hi there you michael yeah mike
00:08:42
we got kind of some bad news for you
00:08:43
here i'm here to arrest you for not
00:08:44
doing your homework
00:08:46
but you may not do my homework well you
00:08:47
know the homework that you left in the
00:08:48
backseat of the car that you just stole
00:08:52
and i bet he got more than just a little
00:08:54
after-school detention but don't worry
00:08:57
we'll give him an a-plus for ignorance
00:09:03
if you're a dumb criminal you should
00:09:04
really consider taking your brain with
00:09:06
you everywhere you go seriously
00:09:08
especially at the police station it was
00:09:11
a quiet day at the station when our
00:09:12
light-headed losers stopped by to report
00:09:15
an unusual theft i'd like to report that
00:09:20
my roommate he took my
00:09:23
marijuana plants
00:09:25
he took what he took my marijuana plants
00:09:27
your marijuana plants yes you understand
00:09:30
if you're important
00:09:31
the officer tried his best to keep a
00:09:33
straight face and let the kid know that
00:09:35
if they did arrest his friend
00:09:37
that they would have to arrest him as
00:09:39
well
00:09:40
for these marijuana plants
00:09:43
it is i wasn't aware of that are you
00:09:45
sure you want to do that um
00:09:48
maybe i'd better reconsider it
00:09:50
not surprisingly the tattletailing toker
00:09:53
decided to keep a lid on it and charges
00:09:56
were never filed
00:09:57
like whoa
00:09:59
if the police department had a detector
00:10:01
for criminals like the national weather
00:10:03
service has for its storm watches
00:10:06
there would be a dumb criminal alert
00:10:08
going off 24 hours a day and always when
00:10:10
you'd least expect it
00:10:12
while stopped at an intersection one
00:10:14
afternoon an officer's car was hit from
00:10:16
behind by another car he called in and
00:10:18
reported the incident to a state trooper
00:10:20
and then prepared to go look at the
00:10:22
damage
00:10:23
as he was about to get out of his car a
00:10:25
drunken man from the other car
00:10:26
approached him and said anybody who's
00:10:28
not damaged such case
00:10:31
way
00:10:32
he was so tanked that he didn't even
00:10:34
notice that he had hit a police car
00:10:37
until the uniformed officer got out of
00:10:38
the car to which our pickled pepper
00:10:41
replied i suppose
00:10:43
make some kind of photo case
00:10:47
the officer corrected him and said that
00:10:49
it would only be a state case and booked
00:10:51
him for dui while this guy's wife
00:10:54
shouted sternly i told you you were too
00:10:56
drunk to drive
00:10:58
well i'm sure she won't let him forget
00:11:00
that for a good long time
00:11:04
in the movie clueless alicia
00:11:06
silverstone's driving lessons don't
00:11:08
include parking because as she points
00:11:09
out everywhere you go has ballet
00:11:12
well of course that's not true but there
00:11:14
are four clueless bank robbers from
00:11:15
richmond county south carolina who
00:11:17
probably wish it was
00:11:20
it seems that a quartet of criminals
00:11:21
rolled into a small town to pull a bank
00:11:23
job hoping not to draw attention to
00:11:25
their car they parked a few blocks away
00:11:27
in the residential neighborhood and
00:11:29
planned to steal a getaway car to get
00:11:30
back
00:11:32
the heist went smoothly and the robbers
00:11:34
were ready to make a break for it only
00:11:36
they couldn't remember where they parked
00:11:37
their own car
00:11:52
but this plan was a bigger clunker than
00:11:54
the last paulie shore vehicle and at
00:11:56
least paulie could find his vehicle the
00:11:58
criminals were arrested and convicted
00:12:00
for bank robbery
00:12:02
next time maybe they'll stick up a bank
00:12:04
that has valet how clueless can you get
00:12:07
come on
00:12:10
if you're a drunk criminal lost on the
00:12:11
road who are you going to call how about
00:12:14
drunk busters
00:12:15
one afternoon the state police issued an
00:12:17
all-points bulletin for a drunk driver
00:12:19
that they had lost track of on the
00:12:21
interstate
00:12:22
a local police officer was parked on a
00:12:24
side street when all of a sudden a car
00:12:26
pulled out hey you
00:12:28
hey can you help me
00:12:30
can you tell me we're possible
00:12:35
excuse me
00:12:38
one street
00:12:40
huh
00:12:43
possum road
00:12:45
give me a second shut your engine off
00:12:48
and i'll give you directions
00:12:52
he got directions all right and all
00:12:55
night logic to boot
00:12:57
what a deal
00:12:58
an officer attended a police auction of
00:13:01
cars seized in drug bust one afternoon
00:13:04
however he soon found himself involved
00:13:06
in a rather unusual bidding war with a
00:13:08
very stubborn man
00:13:10
bidding for the car appeared to be going
00:13:12
well for the officer except for one
00:13:14
thing the man next to him who refused to
00:13:16
be outbid
00:13:18
eventually he outbid everyone and rushed
00:13:21
to fill out the paperwork the officer
00:13:23
thought something was up and watched as
00:13:25
the crook wrote a check and that's when
00:13:27
it all came together the name on the
00:13:29
check matched the name of the previous
00:13:31
owner of the car a known criminal wanted
00:13:34
for several arrests
00:13:36
he was buying back his own impounded car
00:13:39
the officer quickly impounded the crook
00:13:42
and drove him down to the station in the
00:13:44
officer's shiny new car
00:13:47
fingerprints thumb prints
00:13:49
lip prints
00:13:50
yep you heard right this dumb criminal
00:13:53
learned that puckering up can put you in
00:13:55
the slammer
00:13:57
this is a story of a bungling bank
00:13:58
bandit who gave the police department a
00:14:00
big fat lip which is exactly what they
00:14:03
needed the suspect in question had just
00:14:05
held up a local bank in las vegas nevada
00:14:08
then he turned to flee but when the dork
00:14:10
rushed out he headed straight for the in
00:14:12
door and smacked right into the glass
00:14:15
leaving a big lip print behind it was
00:14:18
those luscious lip prints that
00:14:20
prosecutors later used along with the
00:14:22
bank surveillance tape as evidence to
00:14:24
convict the puckered up perp
00:14:28
d is for distraction that's what this
00:14:30
pensacola robber hoped to create in a
00:14:32
daring bank heist d is for detail and he
00:14:36
thought he'd covered them all but as you
00:14:38
can see through surveillance cameras
00:14:40
this dandy dude was just plain dumb
00:14:44
he managed to rob the bank and flee
00:14:46
without incident part one seemed to work
00:14:49
out as planned
00:14:51
he quickly ducked into the restroom of a
00:14:53
nearby restaurant where he had earlier
00:14:55
hidden a change of clothes and presto
00:14:57
chango a new look and a new identity he
00:15:00
was meticulous in order not to be
00:15:02
connected to any incriminating hair
00:15:03
survivors he set the old shirt ablaze
00:15:06
delighted with his deception our dandy
00:15:09
failed to consider the consequences of
00:15:11
his bathroom bonfire dewater from the
00:15:14
sprinkler system he panicked and slipped

on the wet tile broke his leg
00:15:20
when firefighters arrived at the scene
00:15:22

00:15:24

00:15:26
dummy directly to the jail

00:15:33

00:15:35

00:15:37
mind to rob it before doing so he
00:15:40
a
00:15:41
gave the clerk his note
00:15:43
b
00:15:44
waited patiently for over 20 minutes
00:15:46
while she called the police
00:15:47
c politely took the money then ran
00:15:49
outside to the waiting arms of the law
00:15:51
or
00:15:52
d all of the above
00:15:57
we have a winner
00:16:02

00:16:04
or me with one exception we have a brain
00:16:07

00:16:09

00:16:11
criminals
00:16:13
the laughs just keep coming on the next
00:16:15
episode of america's dumbest criminal
00:16:18

00:16:24
[Music]
00:16:34
a dance is door jam
00:16:38
all this and more on the next episode of
00:16:40
america's dumbest criminals
00:16:43
the first one that came to mind was um
00:16:46
we had a residential burglar that
00:16:48
was well known around this area
00:16:51
one day uh because we were trained as
00:16:53
firefighters and police
00:16:56
i had a reporter with the houston
00:16:57
chronicle
00:16:58
writing with me to
00:17:00
you know do a story on the pso program
00:17:03
well i got a call about um three
00:17:06
juveniles sitting on a corner of a
00:17:08
street
00:17:09
so i drive over there and one is the
00:17:11
burglar and two other juveniles an adult
00:17:14
17 at the time and i spoke to this
00:17:18
burglar
00:17:19
and i found out that he had
00:17:21
tube socks in his pants
00:17:24
which or what he puts on to hide his
00:17:26
fingerprints so i knew what he was going
00:17:28
to do it was obvious that they were
00:17:29
sitting watching people leave their
00:17:31
houses to find out who they were going
00:17:32
to burglarize
00:17:34
and i told them i said you know
00:17:36
john doe i know what you're wearing
00:17:39
don't do a burglary today okay because
00:17:41
you go to jail
00:17:42
oh man i'm not going to do a burger
00:17:45
an hour later we get a call of burger in
00:17:47
progress same area
00:17:50
so here i am i've got a reporter with me
00:17:52
and i'm driving down the street
00:17:55
and
00:17:56
had a description it was a description
00:17:58
of the clothes he was wearing
00:18:00
and i was looking down these streets as
00:18:02
i was driving to where the burglar was
00:18:05
and i see him just
00:18:06
walking along so i pull in he doesn't
00:18:09
try to run for me or anything
00:18:11
and you know i said so and so put your
00:18:12
hands on the car
00:18:15
i just put him in the back of my car i
00:18:17
drove him around to where my complainant
00:18:18
was and i had her look out her window
00:18:21
and she said you know that was him
00:18:23
so i got him out of a patrol car but
00:18:25
then another officer was over there
00:18:27
and we started to pat him down and he
00:18:29
had a watch in his pocket that he did
00:18:32
not have earlier you know as a woman's
00:18:33
watch
00:18:34
and
00:18:36
some other stuff so i pulled out the
00:18:37
back seat of my car and there was a pile
00:18:39
of jewelry where he had taken it out and
00:18:42
dumped it so i got a burglary conviction
00:18:45
on him and he went to the penitentiary
00:18:46
so that was a good case
