America's Dumbest Criminals - Season 3, Episode 3 - Funeral Flare-Up - Full Episode

March 03, 2022 / 20:08

This episode of America's Dumbest Criminals covers bizarre criminal antics including a panty raid in Pennsylvania, a pig causing chaos in Alabama, and a gas siphoning gone wrong at a funeral home.

The show begins with a story from New Sewickley, Pennsylvania, where a man was caught stealing underwear during a panty raid. After being confronted by the victim, he was apprehended by undercover officers.

Next, in Delray Beach, Florida, a burglar fled a home in a panic, leaving behind his prison underwear, which led to his nickname, the 'pooper trader'.

In Burlington, police caught two suspects who thought they could flag down their getaway driver after fleeing a break-in. They were arrested when they attempted to signal the police vehicle.

Finally, a failed gas siphoning attempt at a funeral home resulted in a fire, causing significant damage. The episode highlights the absurdity of these criminal acts.

00:00:12
hard-hitting reminder about why you
00:00:14
should always wear a helmet and a

flare-up at a funeral home for
00:00:17
high-octane entertainment don't move a

muscle you're about to witness america's

00:00:59
now welcome your host for america's
00:01:01
dumbest criminals daniel butler and
00:01:04
debbie
00:01:12
yeah sure confessions time what you have
00:01:15
something you want to share no it's your
00:01:16
turn no oh no yes okay think back when
00:01:20
you were in college did you ever engage
00:01:23
in a panty raid
00:01:24
oh no not in college a couple of weeks
00:01:26
ago but no no no i never i know i'm not
00:01:29
really a stand outside a dorm and yell
00:01:31
for someone's underwear kind of guy no
00:01:34
i probably would have stood outside and
00:01:35
yelled for someone to do my laundry you
00:01:38
know but no no not that but did did you
00:01:41
ever get panty rated did you ever drop
00:01:43
underwear down you've got to understand
00:01:45
i went to a very conservative school i
00:01:48
think i would have gotten kicked out of
00:01:49
my college for even saying the word
00:01:51
underwear oh okay but you could say
00:01:52
under and where but not together not
00:01:54
together okay okay our idea of
00:01:55
rebelliousness i think was loud
00:01:57
whispering in the library too that was
00:01:59
conservative so obviously we are not
00:02:01
people who live on the edge but there
00:02:03
are those who grab for the gusto and for
00:02:05
other things as well if you need
00:02:07
evidence check this out
00:02:13
the man you're watching is under
00:02:14
surveillance by undercover officers in
00:02:17
the underwear division of the new
00:02:18
sewickley pennsylvania police department
00:02:21
and yes he is conducting a panty raid he
00:02:23
even confronted our victim the very
00:02:25
first time they looked each other in the
00:02:26
face and had this amazing shock upon his
00:02:29
face but he still came back the trap was
00:02:31
set after the owner filed a complaint
00:02:33
that this guy returned on a weekly basis
00:02:35
you can see him grabbing the panties
00:02:38
and that's when you seen two men of
00:02:39
course i dressed in plain clothes we
00:02:41
dodged out the door yo please free stop
00:02:43
the police clotheslined him and hauled
00:02:45
him in at first he claimed that the
00:02:47
lingerie made good slingshots but
00:02:51
eventually confessed to the theft and
00:02:52
was placed in the beaver county jail
00:02:57
daniel that's true that is true
00:02:59
continuing our revealing look at the
00:03:01
relationship between the underworld and
00:03:03
under garments we moved to delray beach
00:03:05
florida where law enforcement officers
00:03:08
have an unfortunately close encounter
00:03:10
with an ex-con they call
00:03:12
the perpetrator
00:03:14
hi i'm jeff messer with the dory beach
00:03:16
florida police department and i've got a
00:03:17
dumb criminal story for you guys
00:03:19
several years ago we had a gentleman
00:03:21
do a burglary and while in the home
00:03:23
doing his burglary he was confronted by
00:03:25
the homeowner
00:03:26
when confronted he kind of uh
00:03:28
lost control of himself i guess we could
00:03:30
say
00:03:31
and had to leave the home in a hurry he
00:03:33
ran from the home
00:03:34
[Music]
00:03:36
he
00:03:37
unloaded his pants and his underwear
00:03:39
left the underwear put his pants back on
00:03:40
and fled the area
00:03:43
we found his underwear
00:03:45
and the evidence we thought we needed in
00:03:47
the underwear along with the underwear
00:03:49
we found that they were his prison
00:03:50
underwear with his name and prison id
00:03:52
number etched in them
00:03:54
and we eventually caught up with him and
00:03:56
he was given the nickname the pooper
00:03:58
trader from there on
00:04:05
[Applause]
00:04:07
the first rule of getaways is this never
00:04:10
leave a man behind so if indeed there is
00:04:12
honor among thieves you should be able
00:04:14
to count on the driver of the getaway
00:04:16
car to come back for you even if it
00:04:18
takes a while
00:04:19
it's that by-the-book thinking that
00:04:21
resulted in these guys getting booked
00:04:23
when they had every opportunity to flee
00:04:25
the scene
00:04:26
several years ago when i was assigned a
00:04:28
patrol division as a lieutenant we had
00:04:30
an occasion of a break-in call at a
00:04:31
business local business one night
00:04:33
officers responded over there pretty
00:04:35
quick and were able to catch one suspect
00:04:37
still at the scene
00:04:38
two others at least had run from the
00:04:40
scene we
00:04:41
felt certain
00:04:42
but the one suspect was apprehended
00:04:44
there and we got his car the same
00:04:46
so we
00:04:47
left the scene transport our prisoner in
00:04:49
and we assigned officer hayley smith the
00:04:52
police department to drive the suspect
00:04:53
vehicle in as evidence of the crime the
00:04:56
vehicle was going to be impounded and
00:04:57
used later on in court
00:04:59
officer smith was driving the car in two
00:05:01
to three blocks from the location of the
00:05:03
break-in on fisher street here in
00:05:04
burlington we got a radio call from him
00:05:06
on his walkie-talkie
00:05:08
indicating there was some problem people
00:05:09
being stopped by some individuals out
00:05:11
there on the street
00:05:12
it turned out the two suspects that fled
00:05:15
from that occasion had been hiding in
00:05:17
the bushes in the area saw the car
00:05:19
coming they apparently thought if we
00:05:21
seize the car we'd be towing it in by
00:05:23
wreckers and driving it in they thought
00:05:24
their getaway man had somehow gotten
00:05:26
away from us and were driving down
00:05:28
fisher street and flagging down in order
00:05:30
to get away from the theft scene we of
00:05:32
course arrested those two along with the
00:05:34
initial person had all three of our
00:05:36
people rounded up very successful case
00:05:39
the great thing about cell phones is
00:05:41
that they allow your friends and
00:05:42
business associates to catch up with you
00:05:44
anywhere well the bad thing about cell
00:05:46
phones if you're a criminal is that they
00:05:48
allow your pursuers to catch up with you
00:05:51
anywhere see what we mean
00:05:53
several months back we had a rookie
00:05:55
riding with me training and we were
00:05:58
going out one of the small streets out
00:05:59
west
00:06:00
and uh
00:06:02
watched a guy
00:06:03
take off my resume popped in a couple of
00:06:05
ways on a motorcycle just driving over
00:06:07
echoes through he went through a red
00:06:08
light
00:06:09
so i decided to stop and go probably
00:06:11
just he's gonna just wind up getting a
00:06:13
warning or you know for the way he was
00:06:15
driving
00:06:17
i turned my lights on he turned around
00:06:18
looked at me and he just took off
00:06:21
he ended up chasing probably 20 25 30
00:06:23
miles
00:06:24
uh
00:06:25
he wrecks out in a little country area
00:06:28
north of our jurisdiction
00:06:30
and
00:06:32
he wrecked in the curb before we get to
00:06:33
the curve he just slid off the road and
00:06:35
we never saw him we went right on by
00:06:38
and someone another officer come up and
00:06:40
found the motorcycle so we all fanned
00:06:42
out and
00:06:44
the county agencies were out there and
00:06:45
we surrounded the little wooded area he
00:06:47
was in
00:06:48
and
00:06:50
went through the woods and couldn't ever
00:06:51
find it
00:06:52
i stand on the perimeter of the woods
00:06:54
and we heard a cell phone ring
00:06:56
so we was all looking in this area
00:06:59
and
00:07:00
heard it ring again and i heard somebody
00:07:02
say hello
00:07:03
hey he's up here
00:07:05
and sure enough he gets up in the tree
00:07:07
and uh
00:07:08
we told him we said you need to come
00:07:09
down on a tree i'm not coming down to
00:07:11
the news crews leaving you're up for
00:07:13
free you don't really have much of a
00:07:14
choice you know you can either come down
00:07:15
here and check the treatment at that
00:07:17
time we
00:07:19
cordially coached him down the tree and
00:07:21
took him into custody and brought him
00:07:22
back in and booked him into jail
00:07:24
[Music]
00:07:27
while we're looking at the greatest
00:07:28
dummies on two wheels let's stick off in
00:07:30
another direction we're going to la to
00:07:33
pick up on a reckless chase with an
00:07:35
ending that is anything but reckless
00:07:39
a reckless guy on a motorcycle breaks
00:07:41
every rule in the driver's manual
00:07:43
including zooming along at up to 130
00:07:46
miles an hour in a futile attempt to
00:07:48
escape from police
00:07:50
realizing that speed alone was getting
00:07:52
him nowhere fast he opted for an
00:07:54
off-ramp and then he caught a bus
00:07:59
you'd have thought he'd throw in the
00:08:00
towel but he still resisted a rest
00:08:02
eventually he was cuffed and taken away
00:08:04
suffering only a contusion to his
00:08:06
forehead even though his speedometer
00:08:08
froze at 55 miles an hour upon impact
00:08:12
amazingly dumb huh
00:08:14
next thing you know i'm looking at the
00:08:15
rear view and i see them collide with
00:08:16
the bus
00:08:21
that's what it hits just bounced so it's
00:08:23
just
00:08:25
not that hard i've been hit harder
00:08:28
we doubt the guy on the cycle could say
00:08:29
the same
00:08:32
if you think he's got headaches check
00:08:35
out this next couple
00:08:37
well on routine patrol on 5 15 98
00:08:40
it was given a call of a domestic
00:08:42
dispute on 479 metcalf street
00:08:45
upon arrival found a female
00:08:47
standing in the yard being rather
00:08:48
belligerent he's not going nowhere yes
00:08:51
he is
00:08:52
he can leave we cannot make him stay and
00:08:54
neither can you i can press charges
00:08:58
you're not listening to me ma'am you
00:09:00
cannot make him stay here no but i need
00:09:02
him to go to jail for domestic battery
00:09:04
if both of us have to drink
00:09:06
both of us
00:09:11
she said she wanted him to go to jail
00:09:14
and i said i didn't have
00:09:15
grounds to take him to jail again when i
00:09:18
finally got
00:09:19
the husband over and talked to him
00:09:21
i noticed his shirt was somewhat in
00:09:22
disarray and torn just chill out now
00:09:25
there and everything's gonna be cool
00:09:26
okay when i asked him what had happened
00:09:29
and he stated that she had ripped it off
00:09:30
of him and i come up here to get the
00:09:32
rest of my clothes she hit me in my face
00:09:34
five times and i'm a man they don't
00:09:35
nobody hit me in my face she said well
00:09:37
what about all the drugs he's got in the
00:09:39
house
00:09:41
okay what about him
00:09:43
do you want to see him
00:09:44
yes
00:09:45
we confiscated drug paraphernalia seeds
00:09:48
three-potted plants with marijuana
00:09:50
and a white substance we
00:09:52
didn't have enough evidence to ascertain
00:09:54
whether it was cocaine or not we'll have
00:09:55
a seat in my car
00:09:58
yeah you are
00:10:00
possessing the drugs both of y'all are
00:10:02
listening run out there and hit his
00:10:04
drugs he says he goes to errands and
00:10:06
smokes with him and his daddy aaron said
00:10:08
that's all the lies all he's doing is
00:10:09
lying listen
00:10:11
listen your daddy don't want you son
00:10:14
she just wanted him to go to jail
00:10:16
she was telling us about this was funny
00:10:18
in a way she kept telling us about
00:10:21
all the uh
00:10:22
charges he had against him
00:10:25
in florida for child abuse etc and we
00:10:27
kept telling her that has nothing to do
00:10:29
with what's going on here you know
00:10:33
she wanted us to find some reason to
00:10:34
take him to jail so eventually she gave
00:10:36
us the reason
00:10:38
[Applause]
00:10:41
and now with news that dan rather had
00:10:43
rather not report here's daniel with adc
00:10:46
headlines
00:10:50
[Music]
00:10:52
the debate continues over the value of
00:10:54
private citizens owning firearms but
00:10:56
what about your right to own
00:10:58
vegetables a man in new york drew 18
00:11:01
years to life in prison for robbing his
00:11:04
victim with a concealed vegetable
00:11:07
yes the robber brandished a zucchini
00:11:10
under his coat
00:11:11
leading his victim to believe he was
00:11:13
being held at gunpoint at the sentencing
00:11:16
justice justice randall ing scolded the
00:11:19
accused saying quote you added to the
00:11:22
climate of fear we have to live in now
00:11:24
so and also some innocent bystanders
00:11:27
scream look out he's got a zucchini and
00:11:29
he knows how to use it
00:11:32
a bank robber in virginia beach virginia
00:11:34
forced a tiller to fill a plastic
00:11:37
grocery sack with money unaware that a
00:11:39
dye bomb was placed in his hall as well
00:11:42
the crook then shoved you guessed it the
00:11:44
bag into his pants and fled
00:11:48
moments later the dye pack activated a
00:11:51
chemical reaction which according to
00:11:53
police creates about 400 degrees of heat
00:11:59
witnesses to the robbers getaway told
00:12:01
investigators they saw the explosion
00:12:03
taking place inside the man's pants and
00:12:06
the crook immediately shed his trousers
00:12:08
which were confiscated with a hole
00:12:10
seared through the i guess you could
00:12:12
call it the crotch
00:12:14
as of this report the criminal has not
00:12:17
been apprehended but is most certainly a
00:12:19
marked man
00:12:23
if it's a problem to get to the criminal
00:12:25
ask the criminal to come to you that was
00:12:28
the thinking of police in keene new
00:12:29
hampshire when they were alerted that a
00:12:31
parole violator in their midst was
00:12:33
considered armed and dangerous upon
00:12:36
discovery that the man had taken a job
00:12:38
delivering pizza
00:12:40
the officers simply placed an order and
00:12:42
waited for him to arrive at a specified
00:12:45
address
00:12:47
he was easily taken into custody and
00:12:50
according to published reports
00:12:51
miraculously the small cheese pizza was
00:12:54
returned to the pizza parlor unharmed
00:12:57
that's a wrap for abc headlines what do
00:12:59
you got david daniel how many times have
00:13:02
you seen that tense scene in a cops and
00:13:04
robber movie where a police officer says
00:13:06
to the criminal put your weapon on the
00:13:08
counter and move away
00:13:10
well we've got some surveillance camera
00:13:12
footage that's like that only there's no
00:13:14
police officer just a crook who
00:13:16
seriously underestimates his victim
00:13:21
this robber thinks he's big stuff with
00:13:23
his rifle in his hand
00:13:25
but what happens when he and the clerk
00:13:27
engage in a little role reversal
00:13:30
suddenly the robber is even more
00:13:31
motivated to leave the store than he was
00:13:34
to come in
00:13:35
and that's in spite of the fact that the
00:13:36
clerk offers to return the criminal's
00:13:38
weapon
00:13:39
one bullet at a time
00:13:49
in the old tv show the dukes of hazzard
00:13:51
the good old boys were always on the
00:13:53
lookout for boss hogg well citizens in
00:13:56
anniston alabama had their own boss hog
00:13:58
to contend with except this troublemaker
00:14:01
was a real pig
00:14:03
we got a
00:14:04
call several calls about some animal
00:14:07
unknown creature going through gardens
00:14:08
tearing up the gardens
00:14:11
they thought it was dogs going through
00:14:12
and tearing up their garden we
00:14:15
got calls of garbage being turned over
00:14:17
of course she assumed dogs
00:14:19
and
00:14:20
we searched and searched could never
00:14:21
find any loose dogs never saw any loose
00:14:24
animals of any kind that we could find
00:14:25
but it was all in the same neighborhood
00:14:26
the people that were calling and
00:14:28
complaining
00:14:29
only lived about a block from this
00:14:30
ravine where the where the
00:14:33
actual perpetrator was residing
00:14:35
and for probably a couple of weeks
00:14:37
we were on the hot trail of an animal
00:14:39
that was unknown to us at the time it
00:14:41
was coming up in a residential area that
00:14:43
was
00:14:44
getting in the garbage cans
00:14:46
eating items out of people's gardens
00:14:49
tearing up trash and things like that it
00:14:50
turned out to be a
00:14:53
individual's
00:14:54
pet which was a pot belly pig early in
00:14:56
the in a very heavy travel
00:14:59
residential area he was stopping traffic
00:15:02
we jumped him several times
00:15:04
uh
00:15:05
actually could not catch him yeah around
00:15:08
by this time the pig had gained some
00:15:10
notoriety uh
00:15:12
one of our local radio stations k-98 had
00:15:15
put a bounty on the pig's head
00:15:17
said uh he'd get paid anybody 98 dollars
00:15:20
that could bring the pig up there and
00:15:21
let him pet it
00:15:23
and people were calling every day asking
00:15:24
you know have you caught the pig have
00:15:26
you caught the pig everybody that saw me
00:15:27
in town have you caught the pig have you
00:15:28
caught the pig we had some people that
00:15:30
were real concerned for the pig you know
00:15:32
it's going to get hurt and some other
00:15:33
people just having fun with it so we
00:15:35
took out the k98 prize van we took out
00:15:37
the pa system we had hog calling
00:15:39
contests everybody trying to call the
00:15:41
hog in suey pig you know and with the
00:15:44
help of the citizen
00:15:45
after the end of about two weeks
00:15:48
it was caught by the citizen his wife
00:15:50
who later adopted the pig after we got
00:15:52
her you know she
00:15:54
i she's such a nice pet you know we just
00:15:57
kept her you know she's
00:15:59
unbelievable
00:16:00
[Music]
00:16:05
[Applause]
00:16:09
you know some things seemed like bad
00:16:11
ideas from the start like playing in
00:16:13
traffic or swimming during a
00:16:15
thunderstorm yeah you in the wnba
00:16:18
or place
00:16:20
blessing that's a bad idea it would be i
00:16:22
mean come on but placing complicated
00:16:24
food orders at the drive-thru window
00:16:27
true why is that so hard oh you don't do
00:16:30
that do you well no but i do like
00:16:32
certain things i like my condiments
00:16:34
stacked in order
00:16:35
lettuce pickle onion tomato martha
00:16:38
stewart okay you're asking for trouble
00:16:40
well if that's asking for trouble then
00:16:42
our next crooks ordered a double helping
00:16:44
of danger watch as tonight's edition of
00:16:47
we're not making this up provides strong
00:16:49
evidence that man has not evolved well
00:16:51
through the centuries we're on location
00:16:54
at gobert funeral chapel last fall we
00:16:56
had two individuals decided they needed
00:16:57
some gas
00:16:59
they decided to stop by here
00:17:01
siphon some gas out of the van they
00:17:03
didn't have any luck cycling so they
00:17:04
took a gas can stuck it up under the van
00:17:07
took a big buck knife poked a hole the
00:17:09
gas tank
00:17:10
about that time a lady that works here
00:17:12
drove up
00:17:13
they ran around here to the side of the
00:17:15
building
00:17:18
and hid in the bushes
00:17:21
stayed in the bushes until the lady left
00:17:23
which was about 10 minutes at that time
00:17:27
they came back around to the van
00:17:30
one of them had a zippo lighter and they
00:17:31
couldn't see how much gas it had and can
00:17:33
so he couldn't dip a lighter out of his
00:17:35
pocket ignited the gas both fans caught
00:17:38
on fire
00:17:39
they tried to stomp it out
00:17:41
and at that time he got away from them
00:17:44
they decided they ran got in the car and
00:17:45
left both vans bearing up funeral home
00:17:50
burnt
00:17:51
they're done seeking thousand dollars
00:17:52
worth of damage to the funeral home a
00:17:55
lot of dumb things happen in the line of
00:17:57
police work
00:17:58
so far this one takes the cake
00:18:00
it's
00:18:01
last one flashlight comes in heaven we
00:18:04
don't always go out in a blaze of glory
00:18:06
but it looks like we will this time join
00:18:08
us next time when we'll find a burglar
00:18:10
who hopes to get rich but ends up
00:18:12
getting the shaft and if you've got a
00:18:13
lead on the story or you just can't wait
00:18:15
till next week for more state-of-the-art

00:18:31
stupidity of would-be criminals as
