America's Dumbest Criminals - Season 1, Episode 6 - The Bagman - Full Episode

December 02, 2021 / 20:31

This episode of America's Dumbest Criminals covers various ridiculous criminal acts, including a bank robbery without a getaway car, a low-speed chase, and a burglar caught by his own beeper.

Daniel Butler hosts the show, introducing stories like that of a bank robber in Charlotte, North Carolina, who wore a grocery bag on his head and failed to display a weapon during the heist. The police received multiple calls about the robbery, and the robber ended up running into traffic, making his escape even more chaotic.

Another segment features a burglar who stole a beeper and was caught after the homeowner paged him, leading police to his location. This humorous twist highlights the absurdity of the situation.

Additionally, a story about a man who sold marijuana to undercover police officers at a beach seminar illustrates the foolishness of criminals who fail to recognize their surroundings.

The episode concludes with various other absurd criminal incidents, showcasing the ineptitude of those who break the law.

00:01:01
welcome to america's dumbest criminals
00:01:03
i'm daniel butler
00:01:05
we've gone from police station to police
00:01:06
station investigating case after case
00:01:09
and our research of the criminal mind
00:01:11
has revealed that it is completely empty
00:01:14
and you're about to meet them the sour
00:01:16
cream of the crop as we open the files
00:01:18
on america's dumbest criminals
00:01:21
and now daryl price tells us about a
00:01:23
bank robber who only lacked two things
00:01:26
a car and a brain let's watch as the
00:01:29
charlotte mecklenburg police department
00:01:30
sacks the bag man
00:01:33
we got a call
00:01:34
at around noon that day that there was a
00:01:37
bank robbery in process
00:01:39
and when we arrived
00:01:41
we had had about seven calls on the same
00:01:43
bank robbery from
00:01:45
numerous people cellular phones
00:01:48
pay phones
00:01:49
we got there we found out why we had a
00:01:52
subject that had put a brown paper bag
00:01:55
on his head
00:01:56
a grocery store bag
00:01:58
he had cut two very small eye holes in
00:02:00
it
00:02:02
and
00:02:02
put it on his head about
00:02:04
i guess
00:02:06
about a two-tenths of a mile away from
00:02:08
the bank and walked all the way to the
00:02:10
bank with a bag on his head
00:02:12
he entered the bank and uh he started
00:02:14
shouting demands that this was a robbery
00:02:16
and that he had a weapon and he never
00:02:17
never displayed a weapon excuse me
00:02:23
i'm sorry sir i have no idea what you're
00:02:26
saying basically the robbery took
00:02:28
probably about seven or eight minutes
00:02:31
because everyone was having a hard time
00:02:32
understanding him because he didn't cut
00:02:34
a mouth hole in his back and it was real
00:02:36
muffled
00:02:37
and every time that he would turn the
00:02:39
bag would stay in one place and he would
00:02:41
lose his eye holes so he he leaves the
00:02:44
bank and takes off running back in the
00:02:45
direction he came for almost this
00:02:48
quarter of a mile still with the bag on
00:02:49
his head
00:02:50
as he runs across the traffic six lanes
00:02:52
it's rush hour i mean not not rush hour
00:02:55
but rush hour for lunch
00:02:57
traffic was real heavy and as he got in
00:02:59
the middle of traffic the bag turned and
00:03:02
he started going through traffic because
00:03:04
he couldn't see
00:03:06
and so all these cars were about to run
00:03:08
over
00:03:09
well he finally
00:03:11
got the bag twisted back around his head
00:03:13
we could see where he was going and got
00:03:14
through the traffic
00:03:16
went into some woods so my sergeant and
00:03:18
i rode down we caught him probably a
00:03:21
quarter of a mile from there
00:03:22
and we caught him and got him downtown
00:03:24
and got a subsequent confession out of
00:03:26
him that he had committed a robbery but
00:03:30
his story was that
00:03:31
i heard there was a bank robbery so i
00:03:33
went into the woods and i caught the
00:03:35
bank robber and robbed him and took the
00:03:37
money from him
00:03:38
you know once that guy decided to rob
00:03:40
the bank the toughest question facing
00:03:42
him was paper or plastic

welcome back next you'll meet the
00:05:28
burglar who made one too many house
00:05:29
calls and his number came up
00:05:32
police officers responded to a
00:05:34
residential burglary call the owner of
00:05:36
the house reported that a burglar had
00:05:37
broken in and stolen quite a few items
00:05:39
including his son's beeper while the
00:05:42
officers took down the list of stolen
00:05:43
items the father jokingly suggested that
00:05:46
he should call the thief on his son's
00:05:47
beeper and see if he calls back
00:05:50
you know it can't hurt
00:05:53
sure
00:05:54
the homeowner had nothing left to lose
00:05:55
by paging the robber to just give you a
00:05:57
fair shake you know and not ask any
00:05:59
favors of anybody but i certainly don't
00:06:01
expect to walk home come home and find
00:06:03
everything stolen out of my house
00:06:18
we went to dinner we went to a movie i
00:06:20
don't know what time we got
00:06:28
hello
00:06:30
yeah somebody paid me to this number
00:06:35
um
00:06:36
somebody pays you from this number uh
00:06:40
my son must have called and uh and he's
00:06:42
in the shower right now could you call
00:06:44
back in just a few minutes
00:06:46
thank you
00:06:50
that's him
00:06:52
you wouldn't happen to have a caller id
00:06:54
by any chance would you
00:06:55
yes
00:06:57
the police looked at the caller id got
00:06:59
the name and number and relayed the
00:07:00
information to the dispatcher can i have
00:07:02
a correct address on a stephen laser
00:07:06
[Music]
00:07:08
the dispatcher got the address on the
00:07:09
phone number and sent a marked unit to
00:07:12

00:07:14
yeah somebody paid me
00:07:17
hold on a second
00:07:20

00:07:27
hey man what'd you call that beeper
00:07:29
number back for
00:07:30
he beat me
00:07:33
i'm supposed to come back it's only
00:07:34
polite that's right it was a dumb thing
00:07:37
for a criminal to do
00:07:39
but at least he had proper phone
00:07:40
etiquette
00:07:42
in california it used to be against the
00:07:44
law to swim on land but to show you how
00:07:47
far california has come today a woman
00:07:49
can receive a grant to pursue a career
00:07:50
in log rolling strip teas and they start
00:07:53
at 35 000 a year
00:07:57
now captain don parker tells us about a
00:07:59
dumb criminal whose mother should have
00:08:01
taught him you never talk to strangers
00:08:03
we have one of our local dopers here who
00:08:06
was in uh rather dire straits she had
00:08:08
just gotten out of jail
00:08:10
his car had been repossessed he didn't
00:08:12
have any money he had about a half a
00:08:13
dozen baggies of really poor quality
00:08:15
marijuana decided he would hitchhike to
00:08:17
the beach and sell the dope to try to
00:08:19
get some money up
00:08:21
[Applause]
00:08:28
gets to the beach comes up over the top
00:08:31
of a sand dune
00:08:32
guy's not feeling really well i got to
00:08:33
tell you boy opens his eyes and looks
00:08:36
and it looks like a family reunion to
00:08:38
him as far as the eye can see there's
00:08:41
long hair and beards and this pasty
00:08:43
white skin he can't believe it man it's
00:08:46
like a dream come true he runs down the
00:08:48
beach grabs the first guy sees in a
00:08:50
blanket and says hey man you you want to
00:08:52
buy some dope guy says yeah i'd be
00:08:54
interested sure what you got
00:08:56
hauls out as half a dozen baggies of
00:08:57
marijuana lays them out on the on the
00:09:00
beach blanket the guy said well this
00:09:01
looks like pretty good let me tell you
00:09:02
what let me get a few of my friends over
00:09:03
here they might want to buy some too
00:09:05
call they come over there guys in heaven
00:09:07
he can't believe it so how much you want
00:09:09
well he quotes him a price of like three
00:09:11
times the going street rate and a guy
00:09:14
says yeah that's fine problem is we
00:09:16
don't have that much money
00:09:18
we'll need to pull our resources that'd
00:09:19
be okay sure go for it they start
00:09:22
shelling out dollars a big old pile it
00:09:24
must be a closer you know a couple
00:09:26
hundred bucks on it hands on the pile of
00:09:28
money the guy shows the dope over to me
00:09:30
said pleasure doing business with you
00:09:31
and about that time 50 badges come out
00:09:34
our dumb criminal just sold dope to
00:09:36
every undercover narcotics agent in the
00:09:37
southeast who were just attending a
00:09:40
seminar
00:09:42

00:09:44
[Music]
00:09:46
now we go inside the courtroom for trial
00:09:49
and error
00:09:51
from the witness stand a bank teller
00:09:52
describes in detail how she received the
00:09:54
endorsement of a dumb criminal mrs flick
00:09:57
would you please read the note the
00:09:58
defendant gave you
00:10:02
this is a stick up
00:10:04
give me all the money or you'll get hurt
00:10:08
you must have been frightened
00:10:10
no
00:10:11
there's bulletproof glass in the
00:10:13
drive-through
00:10:14
so what did you do then
00:10:17
well i called the police and then i told
00:10:20
him that even though this was a robbery
00:10:22
he would still have to sign a withdrawal
00:10:24
slip
00:10:25
so i slipped one through to him he
00:10:27
signed it returned it and then the
00:10:29
police came
00:10:33
[Music]
00:10:35

00:10:43

00:10:46
ken mcginnis birmingham tells us about a
00:10:48
dumb criminal who fell from grace and
00:10:50
landed in the halls of justice it was
00:10:52
about uh three or four years ago i went
00:10:54
to serve a uh robbery i mean a
00:10:57
robbery arrest warrant with a robbery
00:10:58
detective went up to the house knocked
00:11:01
on the door no one answered
00:11:03
we could hear people scuffling around on
00:11:05
the inside
00:11:06
finally at some point the mother came to
00:11:08
the door opened it up
00:11:10
she was screaming yelling at us asking
00:11:12
us while we were there the detective
00:11:14
told her that he had a robbery warrant
00:11:17
for her son
00:11:19
so she said he wasn't there we could
00:11:20
come in and look around so
00:11:22
my partner and i went in the front door
00:11:24
and we were using our way down the
00:11:25
hallway
00:11:28
he's a good boy he's a very good boy you
00:11:31
can look in any room and uh we got about
00:11:33
halfway down the hallway and uh out of
00:11:35
nowhere
00:11:37
the ceiling above me gave way
00:11:39
[Music]
00:11:42
the guy fell right in front of me was
00:11:43
covered in drywall
00:11:45
and knocked the breath out of him he
00:11:47
couldn't breathe and
00:11:49
i told my partner i said man it's a
00:11:51
message from god
00:11:53
so we rolled him over and handcuffed him
00:11:55
and we took him on out to the car and
00:11:56
took him to jail for robbery
00:12:00
so chicken little was right this guy is
00:12:02
falling
00:12:04
now actual footage of a male sorter
00:12:06
receiving his own special delivery the
00:12:09
man in the postal uniform is actually a
00:12:11
postal inspector the man without the
00:12:13
shirt is actually an off-duty mail
00:12:14
sorter
00:12:16
they're carrying two parcels into the
00:12:18
mail sorter's house now these parcels
00:12:20
were sorted by this mail sorter they
00:12:22
appeared to be a television in a
00:12:24
computer so he sorted them to go to his
00:12:26
house he simply put his own label over
00:12:30
the actual label
00:12:32
it was such a professional labeling job
00:12:34
i'm amazed he was caught but this dumb
00:12:36
criminal went to jail for his own
00:12:38
special delivery

00:13:26
a warrant for your arrest for receiving
00:13:28

00:13:31
what makes you guys think that i did
00:13:33
something like that
00:13:35
well when you forged the check you wrote
00:13:38
the name printed on the front of it on
00:13:39
the back when you endorsed it you used
00:13:41
your real name and you provided the
00:13:43
teller with your driver's license with
00:13:45
this address
00:13:49
well i guess
00:13:51
when she uh asked me for my id uh
00:13:55
i guess i went into check writing mode
00:13:58

00:14:22
do doesn't look right or feel right
00:14:24
don't do it but especially if it looks
00:14:26
really wrong i was involved in a
00:14:28
narcotics transaction i was working
00:14:31
undercover and my partner and i
00:14:33
made a deal earlier that day to purchase
00:14:36
a hundred pounds of marijuana and in our
00:14:38
conversation with the individuals they
00:14:40
said well it's still on the stalk we
00:14:42
hadn't had a chance to cut it yet
00:14:44
but we can give it to you on the stall
00:14:46
can give you a discount with it instead
00:14:48
of paying full price because of the
00:14:50
weight of the stalk and all
00:14:52
so we negotiated the deal and they were
00:14:54
supposed to meet us later that evening
00:14:56
so my partner and i arrived at the
00:14:58
location at the said time and sure
00:15:00
enough here they come loaded down with
00:15:02
stalks of marijuana it's not even
00:15:04
bundled up or anything just right on the
00:15:06
stalk like they'd pulled it from the
00:15:07
ground
00:15:09
and we were in a little compact car
00:15:11
you know just big enough for two people
00:15:14
much less a briefcase or anything like
00:15:16
that
00:15:17
my partner came out with the shotgun to
00:15:20
make the arrest because there's no way
00:15:22

and now actual footage of a case we call
00:15:35
one of the odds
00:15:37
a woman was shopping in a mall when she
00:15:39
had her purse snatched her purse
00:15:40
contained all of her husband's credit
00:15:42
cards
00:15:43
the two thieves took the credit cards
00:15:45
from her stolen purse and went on a
00:15:47
shopping spree at this store where they
00:15:50
immediately purchased a camcorder from
00:15:52
this man who happened to be the lady's
00:15:54
husband whose purse they had just stolen
00:15:57
in a city of over a million what are the
00:16:00
odds they're always bad when you're a
00:16:03
dumb criminal using careful deductive
00:16:06
reasoning and crafty logic the criminal
00:16:08
often arrives
00:16:10
in jail
00:16:11
you know when you have a day when
00:16:12
everything goes wrong well this guy is
00:16:14
about to have one of those days
00:16:16
condensed into five minutes
00:16:18
near cleveland ohio a robber entered a
00:16:20
cafe with a knife wait this is a robbery
00:16:25
the cashier filled a paper bag with
00:16:27
money and the gunman escaped with the
00:16:29
cash think about it yeah get the 20s get
00:16:31
the 20s
00:16:34
but as the man exited the restaurant the
00:16:37
sac tour opened on the door spilling the
00:16:39
money as he ran across the parking lot
00:16:41
then he made it to his truck but
00:16:43
realized he had locked the door he
00:16:45
forced the key back and forth and it
00:16:47
broke off in the lock
00:16:53
which he used to shoot himself in the
00:16:55
foot
00:16:56
he was later arrested at the emergency
00:16:58
room where he arrived with a gunshot
00:17:00
wound in his foot
00:17:03
in ohio it used to be against the law to
00:17:05
drool in the salad bar here a known
00:17:08
drooler is caught trying to pass in
00:17:10
disguise
00:17:12
up next an inebriated house burglar
00:17:14
comes face to foot with the homeowner
00:17:18
the nervous crook sat in his car
00:17:19
knocking back beers to get his nerve up
00:17:22
the beer only managed to shut down his
00:17:23
brain
00:17:25
while the crook's body went out to rob a
00:17:27
nice home
00:17:32
totally anesthetized our crook pried
00:17:34
open the door
00:17:35
after he realized it was closed
00:17:42
he gained entry to the house
00:17:44
and began stumbling through the dimly
00:17:46
lit hallways
00:17:50
in moments he was bruised bleeding and
00:17:52
still very drunk but he still wanted to
00:17:54
rob the house he just felt like he
00:17:56
needed a few minutes to rest
00:17:58
so he laid down on the floor right where
00:18:00
he was which just happened to be right
00:18:02
beside the bed of the sleeping homeowner
00:18:04
who had slept through the entire
00:18:05
burglary but now needed to heed the call
00:18:07
of nature she was looking for her
00:18:09
slippers when
00:18:14
she almost put her foot in his mouth
00:18:17
he got five years for his nap time with
00:18:19
bozo
