00:00:00
LinkedIn was literally the way that my
00:00:02
life got saved. I basically got came
00:00:03
down and got diagnosed with cancer out
00:00:05
of the blue. You know, I was just
00:00:06
feeling a bit under the weather and went
00:00:07
to the doctor and it just escalated
00:00:09
really quickly to I think I've got the
00:00:11
flu to no, you've got quite severe
00:00:13
cancer. And so my life just changed like
00:00:15
radically in a really short amount of
00:00:17
time. I I've always wanted to be
00:00:18
creative. So I thought what am I going
00:00:19
to do? I started writing and I wrote a
00:00:21
column every day every every week and
00:00:23
stuff published it which was cool. But
00:00:25
it did get to the point where the
00:00:26
treatment just we ran out of options.
00:00:28
And this is why this is such a thing
00:00:29
that's close to my heart is because
00:00:31
people are still getting this kind of
00:00:32
message in New Zealand. We just don't
00:00:33
have the treatments you need. Like we
00:00:35
can go this far, but we can't afford the
00:00:38
treatments that are now available. You
00:00:40
know, there's so many of this these
00:00:41
stories that are still in our media all
00:00:43
the time. I wrote about that. I said,
00:00:44
you know, we're at the end of the road.
00:00:46
Things are looking really bleak. We've
00:00:47
just had, you know, the tumors have come
00:00:49
back. And this guy who had been reading
00:00:51
my column, Mike, um, sent me a message
00:00:53
on LinkedIn, uh, out of the blue again
00:00:55
and just said, "Look, you don't know me
00:00:57
and I don't know you, but I've been
00:00:58
reading your story and I'm I'm sort of
00:01:00
working in the medical field and can I
00:01:01
help?"
00:01:01
>> What is he like vice president at?
00:01:03
>> Yeah. He turns out to be the senior vice
00:01:05
president uh for immunology at at FISA.
00:01:08
You know, with his connections, he was
00:01:10
the type of person that absolutely could
00:01:12
help me. And he put me in touch with
00:01:13
people, you know, within a few literally
00:01:15
a few hours of me going, "Yes, I need
00:01:17
help." He'd said, "Right, here's a
00:01:18
person. Here's three people you can talk
00:01:19
to. This one's doing this trial. This is
00:01:21
this. Call this guy.
