Gilda Kirkpatrick on 2022 Wellington Protests & NZ's Covid Response

November 22, 202310:22
00:00:00
I see you know during the process for
00:00:02
example when I went down to Wellington I
00:00:04
saw all these people from all walks of
00:00:06
life some had nothing they were living
00:00:09
in you know their cars because they lost
00:00:11
their
00:00:12
jobs and you that was triggering for me
00:00:16
that that's when I was like you
00:00:18
know nobody should ever sit and be quiet
00:00:22
about what's happening people should
00:00:24
have a sense of responsibility towards
00:00:27
their fellow humans um
00:00:30
because you know once your human rights
00:00:32
is gone it is very hard to get it back
00:00:35
you know when things are taken away from
00:00:37
you it is very hard to get them back
00:00:39
yeah that's a fact of life anywhere any
00:00:42
you know political rules boundaries
00:00:46
whatever comes in they hardly ever
00:00:49
leave they they're there to stay and
00:00:52
that that's just so your freedom
00:00:54
shrinking and shrinking and shrinking
00:00:56
and if you're not aware if you don't
00:00:57
take it serious you know sure people
00:00:59
tell me oh she's so like crazy she
00:01:02
thinks you know she's a conspiracy
00:01:04
theorist Etc um that's okay but you know
00:01:08
for me then again I can put my head on
00:01:11
my pillow and say I did the right thing
00:01:12
for my children for my fellow human
00:01:14
beings um knowing that I did my best
00:01:16
whether it worked or it didn't work but
00:01:18
at least every day I'm thinking that and
00:01:21
so far I think with this uh mandates and
00:01:24
cover issues and the way the government
00:01:27
has handled stuff um I don't think I've
00:01:30
ever made a mistake I think I've been on
00:01:31
point on everything that I stood for and
00:01:33
I'm glad that I did yeah it's quite
00:01:36
funny isn't it it feels like we're um
00:01:38
almost at a stage now in society where
00:01:39
if you have any sort of opinion that's
00:01:41
not mainstream popular it's just very
00:01:44
easy to you know put you in a box and
00:01:46
say you're an alt-right conspiracy
00:01:48
theorist seems to be a at a a state
00:01:50
we're at now that's exactly what what it
00:01:52
that's how it works this ideological
00:01:54
sort of establishments coming in the
00:01:57
reason I don't care about that is
00:01:58
because I grew up in one until I was 16
00:02:02
the most you know important years of my
00:02:04
life I learned how these things work you
00:02:07
know I watched it happen if you open
00:02:10
your mouth said anything you you're a
00:02:11
heretic you don't believe in Islam you
00:02:13
don't believe in the collective uh
00:02:15
goodness and the greater you
00:02:18
know whatever you call it uh greater
00:02:21
good um that's all excuse and
00:02:24
because you know they're absolutely
00:02:27
taking away their rights of the
00:02:30
greater population for their own
00:02:33
ideology I I don't agree with that I've
00:02:36
lived through it and I can see that it
00:02:39
started happening um not under Islamic
00:02:42
ideology but under a different ideology
00:02:45
um where a group of people in power feel
00:02:49
like they can dictate to everybody else
00:02:51
how they should live that's not being
00:02:54
free and it's worrisome because I don't
00:02:56
want my children to go through what I
00:02:58
went through and yes I know they've got
00:03:00
a great life they we are in the most
00:03:02
beautiful country in the world and I
00:03:04
love this country but um looking at
00:03:07
oversees what's happening there and
00:03:08
looking at New Zealand the way they're
00:03:10
going um above things in New Zealand um
00:03:16
to me it's like oh this is all
00:03:18
happening again different way but the
00:03:20
same path did you did you um you
00:03:23
mentioned before you went to the um the
00:03:24
co protest in Wellington did you are you
00:03:27
vaccinated did you get the vaccine or no
00:03:29
no
00:03:30
because it's funny isn't it because it's
00:03:31
um there was definit like you look back
00:03:34
and it's um I'm I'm a sheeple I just go
00:03:36
along with whatever's going like the
00:03:37
government tells me to get three Jabs
00:03:39
I'll get three Jabs I just want
00:03:41
to go with the path of least resistance
00:03:43
but I look back now and there was um you
00:03:45
one of my good friends got married and I
00:03:46
was a groomsman and his mom had to have
00:03:49
like a fake vaccine passport to to even
00:03:52
attend her own son's wedding um because
00:03:54
the Caterers wouldn't let her and
00:03:55
otherwise there Al and you look back now
00:03:57
recent it was only like two or three
00:03:58
years ago and it's you think you know
00:04:01
she was sort of um almost like a leper
00:04:03
at her own son's wedding at that time
00:04:04
and it's only like recent history and
00:04:05
you look back down and go well maybe she
00:04:07
had a faar point do you know what I mean
00:04:09
and there's people that that were forced
00:04:10
out of their jobs and you look back now
00:04:12
and it's only again only a couple of
00:04:14
years ago and you think well maybe these
00:04:15
people that have had a point um you know
00:04:19
when thinking rationally and OB
00:04:23
objectively becomes a
00:04:27
crime um and you are being judged
00:04:32
for taking making decisions for your own
00:04:35
health or um you know doing your own
00:04:40
research at the time having W with
00:04:43
internet obviously you have access to
00:04:44
the best um you know virologist in the
00:04:47
world the best scientists in the world
00:04:49
and they are telling you after all their
00:04:52
years and these are information was
00:04:54
available before the vaccination came to
00:04:57
New Zealand and they were all worried
00:05:00
about it and they were very um outspoken
00:05:03
and verbal about it it didn't take a you
00:05:05
know you could just go and find this
00:05:08
information and they were all valid um
00:05:12
and make your mind but when talking
00:05:14
logic or taking ownership of your own
00:05:17
life all of a sudden is you being a
00:05:19
heretic what is the difference of today
00:05:22
and when they used to burn you know uh
00:05:25
Protestants or burn anybody or
00:05:27
scientists who spoke against the church
00:05:29
because Church said so because the
00:05:30
Catholic Church said this is the science
00:05:34
not what soans so says not what a person
00:05:38
who's dedicated his whole life has
00:05:40
written half of the you know a
00:05:42
scientific book and uh books and uh
00:05:45
medical books uh which until now we've
00:05:47
been practicing oh don't listen to that
00:05:50
person listen to us listen to me the
00:05:52
politician who's enforcing this upon you
00:05:55
and a whole bunch of um you know other
00:05:58
people who are par in it um and look at
00:06:01
look what happened today like for
00:06:03
example with the hatchard report coming
00:06:06
out yesterday which now shows that
00:06:10
11,000 uh people were examed and a whole
00:06:13
bunch of them were surgeons and doctors
00:06:15
and health you know people in Ministry
00:06:17
of Health etc etc
00:06:20
well so what is the difference between
00:06:23
those people who were professionals
00:06:25
medical professionals who rejected the
00:06:28
vaccine they were the best of the best
00:06:30
in the country they rejected the vaccine
00:06:33
you gave them exemption but also gag
00:06:35
order so they couldn't talk about it but
00:06:37
if I refused to base on my own searching
00:06:42
of the best sources in the world if I
00:06:44
was like oh that's not very good for me
00:06:46
I think I'm going to wait and see what
00:06:48
happens and then you know I'm okay to
00:06:50
isolate so why was I a conspiracy theory
00:06:54
you know like yeah again like I was
00:06:56
saying before I think it's an easy box
00:06:57
to put people into that have any sort of
00:06:59
opinion
00:07:00
that's not you know mainstream or
00:07:01
popular it's just it's like an easy box
00:07:03
just call them altright conspiracy
00:07:05
theorists yeah well the the thing is you
00:07:07
know what bothers me is that it's a very
00:07:10
hypocritical way that um you know the
00:07:15
our government has been dealing with a
00:07:18
personal freedom so if I come today and
00:07:22
I I say I'm a different gender and this
00:07:25
is my pronouns this is what I think and
00:07:27
everybody should respect that oh yes AB
00:07:29
absolutely let's like raise all the
00:07:30
flags and support um you know um what
00:07:35
you're saying because you're an
00:07:36
individual we should respect your
00:07:38
ideology we should respect your thought
00:07:40
and we should respect your feeling so I
00:07:43
come in I'm like H I'm a mother of two I
00:07:46
am worried it's not enough research I
00:07:49
don't 100% trust this procedure I want
00:07:52
to take my time oh you um you know
00:07:56
you're just a conspiracy
00:07:57
theory why are are you you know doing
00:08:00
this it's not all about you you're being
00:08:02
selfish so what is it either do we we
00:08:05
either we have the personal freedom of
00:08:08
thought and choice or we don't yeah
00:08:11
don't come at me and say oh you know I'm
00:08:14
I come from I don't know um some race or
00:08:19
somewhere or some country so I you know
00:08:22
I'm more accepted because um I have more
00:08:27
thoughts and everybody's say yeah yeah
00:08:29
and everybody else has to shut up that's
00:08:31
not okay if you if you give freedom and
00:08:34
choice to people then respect that and
00:08:36
don't be H critical about it would you
00:08:39
ever get into politics you got any
00:08:40
interest in that um here I I get ask
00:08:44
about this this question a lot um I
00:08:48
don't have any interest to get into
00:08:50
politics but but you got some very
00:08:52
strong opinions and you're very smart as
00:08:54
well but I I I definitely have an issue
00:08:57
with how the our political system in New
00:09:00
Zealand has been um sort of handled uh
00:09:04
we V and we get these people in they go
00:09:06
to make they're make hang on Kanye no no
00:09:10
you're being very naughty he's just
00:09:12
bored about the co chat I reckon but I'm
00:09:15
not yes well so what he saying is you um
00:09:18
um so I I believe that it needs to be
00:09:20
kind of tackled and people we are voters
00:09:24
and we have rights um but we vote these
00:09:27
people and they go in there with no
00:09:29
accountability do whatever they want
00:09:30
nobody questions them nobody goes and
00:09:32
holds them responsible hey you promised
00:09:34
these things where are they what
00:09:35
happened we don't have establishment
00:09:37
like that and I believe that we do we
00:09:40
are in dire need of an entity that
00:09:43
overlooks what government does in terms
00:09:45
of making sure they deliver in any
00:09:48
cooperation anywhere you'll have that
00:09:50
accountability except uh within this
00:09:53
government and how you know they run it
00:09:55
now that doesn't exist in many other
00:09:57
places in the world either but it
00:09:58
doesn't mean that it can't exist and I
00:10:01
believe that it is definitely you know
00:10:04
we need a whole bunch of people who are
00:10:05
experts and passionate uh who can come
00:10:08
and make sure the government delivers
00:10:09
what they
00:10:12
[Music]
00:10:20
promise
