May 07, 202501:00:13
00:00:00
jack Black Dana always funny always upbeat always in a good mood And uh he lived up to all that
00:00:08
today Yes And we uh we happened to in this particular case interview him on
00:00:14
the Monday after he hosted this banging episode on SNL and then his movie
00:00:19
Minecraft also same weekend Yeah Gigantic smash So he was in a really
00:00:25
good mood He may be kind of in the legendary category because he's been around long enough But um couldn't be
00:00:31
nicer funny That was just a easy easy conversation to have with the great Jack
00:00:38
Black Yeah Fun comedian I see him out and about sometimes always seems uh up
00:00:44
for uh chatting and laughing and just cracking up and he's just out there
00:00:49
doing whatever it takes and just always goofy on these press things and everyone
00:00:54
likes to be around him all the way back from School of Rock Just we went over a lot of his stuff and then just basically
00:01:00
cracked up Yeah Anyway enjoy the one and only Jack Black
00:01:08
[Music] Do you know how difficult it is to get a
00:01:13
jean jacket that really works in this day and age Very difficult because you'll it'll be too big too small So I
00:01:20
was at um I was at Metaphorical Cigar uh New York Magazine photo shoot and they
00:01:26
go "Here try this jean jacket." So I said "Well this looks like a good jean." So I walked off with it and then they found me and I said "Okay." I mean is it
00:01:35
okay if I I mean I'll pay you but then they came back 20 minutes later and said "You can keep it." $95
00:01:40
Wow And how much for the glasses The string that holds your glasses on your head These are You got to get me one of
00:01:47
those These are 175s I'm supposed to go to twos
00:01:52
Oh yeah What are you at for uh up close vision Uh I am prescription so I don't
00:01:58
even know what they're doing It's like one eye is probably different than the other Up top is just like normal Down
00:02:05
here is for reading In the sunlight it turns into sunglasses These things are like supercharged There you go I need
00:02:11
all that I'm just too lazy I go That's where the money's going I go Yep All of
00:02:17
my money goes to my optometrist I go on Larchmont Optometrics Nice I used to live in near Larchmont
00:02:24
Great group of ladies over there It's all ladies at my my uh
00:02:30
Jack this weekend I didn't I was kind of out of town And I'm not good at research but uh I heard there's
00:02:37
something couple things happen I did a little indie film called Minecraft How
00:02:44
did that do You know according to reports it's gone bonkers and the kids are going in there
00:02:52
and just like throwing popcorn and just losing their minds I know It's like I've
00:02:58
heard about this chaos It looks kind of like um like Rocky Horror Picture Show
00:03:04
Like there's a lot of participation These kids have they come in already knowing the dialogue because of the
00:03:11
memes Oh you have to say it that way Is that why it's the memes Why I was thinking
00:03:17
did you see this coming or or I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little
00:03:24
surprised I mean I loved it I saw I saw it uh a couple weeks before it came out
00:03:29
and I was like "Look I like it but what the hell do I don't know Hopefully people will like it I like stuff and
00:03:36
then it comes out and the reviews are just garbage and and I'm like what?" But
00:03:41
and actually the reviews were kind of mixed on this one but it didn't seem to matter cuz the the the kids have spoken
00:03:48
Yeah Oh yeah They come to get them hooked in and now and now there's a trick and a fun thing to do Yeah That's
00:03:54
the best But then there's also a weird backlash where some of the theaters this
00:03:59
is just news I'm getting from Tik Tok so I don't know if this is true either I'm just kidding Tik Tok is true Come on
00:04:05
It's going to be where there's talk of illegalizing the movie cuz kids are going two bananas throwing popped corn
00:04:12
And if they don't stop throwing popped corn the movie will be illegal Pops corn
00:04:17
in there Isn't it popcorn Pops corn That's what the That's what the theater owner said Um so listen I think it's
00:04:25
good Should it be illegal This is a question everyone's been asking lately about this movie
00:04:32
It's controversial It's hard to get the chickens The chicken comes in I don't
00:04:39
think that's controversial Nothing we do in the movie is controversial but the effect it's having on the youth of the
00:04:45
nation is you know it's it's creating concern It's like we don't want that kind of that kind of rowdy behavior We
00:04:53
can't condone that kind of bedum But uh I'm saying it's so hard to get butts in
00:05:00
seats nowadays Yeah Just hire hire someone else another popcorn uh scooper
00:05:07
I'm going to do a prediction that this thing's going to have a lot of multiple viewings It's not going to be seen
00:05:15
anytime soon on you know Amazon right
00:05:20
You can rent it for $4.95 or buy it for uh 300 Oh wait Does it go somewhere
00:05:26
after this Because a lot of movies sometimes keep it in theaters man That's my Is it theaters It's theaters only
00:05:32
right now I I actually don't know what the plan is where it goes after that for the secondary And uh it's kind of cool
00:05:38
that uh that there there's no plan in place whatever you call secondary 168
00:05:44
million Um you know I'm just curious about this like Nacho Libre Yeah
00:05:50
Napoleon Dynamite Yeah Jared here So what what went right and how could this
00:05:57
movie have gone wrong and what what were the choices it made besides casting you as the lead That was good from what I
00:06:04
understand I'm going to see it tomorrow There's people who want really want to see it They don't even know I'm talking
00:06:09
to you right now I would say it's it's more like co-leads It's me and Jason
00:06:15
Mimoa It's a it's a one-two punch Okay We we uh spend the first half of the
00:06:21
movie being rivals and you know it's a it's a it's a little bit of a
00:06:26
competition for alpha dominance and then over the course of And you are competing with him That's the that's where we flip
00:06:33
the script cuz this time I'm the one who's dude the badass Uh yeah I'm the
00:06:39
one with all the the fighting skills and he's he's uh he's the pretty face who's
00:06:44
really actually terrified of this this world But oh he looks funny in that uh he's got you guys have an enthusiasm off
00:06:51
or any during lunch and stuff because enthusiasm off I
00:06:57
mean all the time I met him I mean there was a little bit of a competition for
00:07:03
who brought the most enthusiasm energy We did We did It was never spoken We
00:07:08
never said "Hey may the best enthusiasm win." But he would come in with a lot of
00:07:15
uh uh a lot of noise and energy with his motorcycle noise Oh he brings a
00:07:21
motorcycle That's like Yes And you would hear like he would have he has a band and they would be jamming in his trailer
00:07:27
very loud right out of the gate And I was like "Okay fine." And then I got my little boom box uh uh Bluetooth speaker
00:07:36
and I'd come I'd come in blazing whatever jam I thought was the right one for the day So we were you know we were
00:07:43
tr we were battling for the hearts and minds of that crew Yeah You know music too He shouldn't mess with that You know
00:07:49
what you're doing Well we joined forces We we did a little jamming together He
00:07:54
we're we're you know it's we're kind of sympatico That's why I I I wanted to work with him cuz I felt like we're
00:08:00
going to be we're going to be two peas in a pod He likes he likes the same kind of music I like and he's got a similar
00:08:07
energy even though he's you know a foot taller and all muscle and women come
00:08:13
running from the four corners of the earth to be to get a whiff of this guy
00:08:19
Yeah we that that's a little different than my my clientele but
00:08:25
we uh we still there was some sexual energy I mean we can bounce around
00:08:30
between the two between you and the chicken 10 polls of the I'm going to call it Jack Black April or maybe
00:08:39
contact my congressman or something There should be some national creed because to first of all I I have two
00:08:44
questions One is what happened 20 years ago cuz you came out and it exploded and we can I want to go over the show and
00:08:51
what it was It was it was exceptional So first of all what happened 20 years ago
00:08:57
cuz I I did one that kind of sucked and I I could just say it in 2010 it just
00:09:03
tilted wrong you know and it was I was pushing and it just wasn't
00:09:08
good So I have I haven't been asked back but what happened to you How is Jack Black not How do they go two decades
00:09:16
without you on that show Oh you're saying on SNL Yeah 20 years ago he hosted and then So I don't remember you
00:09:25
having a a a bad uh day on SNL Exactly And but I do remember seeing lots of
00:09:33
great performers have a bad night on SNL because it's just part of the it's the
00:09:40
it's the nature of the beast right Is the it's a high wire act It shouldn't work It's like it get they they put it
00:09:48
and it's uh terrifying because it's like wait we're held together with scotch tape And that's kind of the fun is you
00:09:54
get to see a belly flop potential belly flop because it's live There's no second
00:10:00
takes and you want you almost watching it you kind of want to see some mistakes cuz that's there's nothing else like it
00:10:06
The funnest part Oh you had mistakes I had mistakes and you had uh there
00:10:11
someone yelled from the crowd That's not a mistake That's fun That's definitely I like your le stage in the monologue cuz
00:10:17
I said that guy got vertical and I was never afraid for you physically cuz I
00:10:23
almost killed myself many times in that place You know I have some training A lot of people don't know this but I
00:10:29
trained judo for for a few years in my teens So the the first thing they teach
00:10:35
you in judo is how to dive roll It's like a little mini tiger roll And uh
00:10:40
it's been part of my on stage Yeah Uh uh bag of tricks uh for Kung Fu Panda too
00:10:48
Little Yep Little animated People don't know I was doing the tiger roll in the recording booth No Mhm But um I uh I
00:10:56
thought you had the little green dots on you and that was really you like you're running around I had fun with that opening monologue I did I did a little
00:11:03
rocking a little a little uh diving and rolling but if I'm honest with you uh I
00:11:09
was struggling with the cardio cuz I I made the choice to run up those stairs Yeah Wasn't actually my idea That was
00:11:16
more of a John Higgins idea You You know Steve Higgins son works on the show now
00:11:22
Yeah Yeah And he's great He's hilarious And he and his partners in uh Please
00:11:28
Don't Destroy They're like the new guys that make the hilarious music videos and videos every week They were like
00:11:36
shephering me with my monologue section And uh they thought it would be a great idea to run up into the audience and
00:11:42
like have a a marching band up there and then run down the other side of the stairs And I I got a little winded So
00:11:50
the main thing was just hold my wind together You had a whole show after that Did you have any rest in that Because
00:11:57
did you like when you knew you were going back down the stage you get a little bit of a rest Because I was I was
00:12:02
thinking about that and and it it can happen But when you said we got a great show the flag never touched the ground
00:12:09
You were you weren't like we got a great show So I was impressed And I wanted to ask you about that fitness and some of
00:12:15
the leg kicks and the little dancing I mean it was wild Um yeah I didn't re I I could have used
00:12:23
a little more training leading up to it Maybe I should have done the ompic or
00:12:28
something to to drop a few lbs That would have helped But you know I just
00:12:33
remember when Chris Farley would do his physical [ __ ] he did stuff way more extreme He'd be running like a wind
00:12:40
sprint down the Letterman thing and lifting up people and throwing people and he he got winded and sweaty but it
00:12:48
he never broke a stride You know what I mean And I wish I had that kind I don't know I think it's a home run I mean by
00:12:54
the way the monologue was like perfection for me I love the onro Who
00:13:00
thought of that where you going I can't do it I don't feel it That just gave me goosebumps when you went around They do
00:13:07
Don't don't do that to me And then you did that rhythm that you do cuz I can't watch whatever that little thing and
00:13:14
everyone knew it was on when you did you turn That was my turn That was mine I wanted to do that turn where and the
00:13:21
reason I wanted to do it is cuz that is was actually true I do have a lot of fear And leading up to it I was like I
00:13:28
don't know if I can do it And part of me was wishing wouldn't it be nice if I could
00:13:34
just quit I'd like to quit and not do it And then I was like I'm going to make that part of the monologue
00:13:40
I'm gonna make that that insecurity part of it And then the turn like no I will I
00:13:45
will host again Cuz you see some host go in there with some wispy monologues I
00:13:51
mean there's like some minute 30 monologues where they're like "Hey here's a clip from my movie and here's
00:13:57
our musical guest." I'm like "I get it." And then conversely it was not that long ago that I think uh Dave Chappelle broke
00:14:04
the record for the longest monologue right I think it was 20 19 minutes or
00:14:09
something Yeah 19 minutes Cigarettes That's That's you know like a quarter of the show
00:14:15
when he's hosting you're like "Oh no my sketch." Did Lauren give you a thumbs up during the show or anything like during
00:14:20
the show in between sketches and or a little bit little bit A little bit I
00:14:26
mean I I I uh I was pretty uh pace yourself Jack Yeah dude Lauren said the
00:14:33
funniest thing I don't think he was trying to be funny but after the rehearsal when I he saw me do the tiger
00:14:39
roll and he saw me doing that rocking number and he saw me sweating and wheezing and he said "I just want to
00:14:46
tell you a story This is not a good in No that actually is good I like it already Yeah In n in the 70s this is the
00:14:54
beginning We had um Desi Ares on the show That's all right And he was all you
00:15:01
know he was getting up there He was in his 70s and and I wanted him on cuz I just thought you know yes he's older but
00:15:07
he's an icon and he had been on you know Lucille Balls and uh and I was like
00:15:15
"Yeah oh my god that must have been a trip I'd love to see that." And he said that uh Desi um was kind of struggling
00:15:23
He wanted to do his Babaloo number That was like his trademark that he'd been doing you know live for for decades And
00:15:31
uh and and Lauren was a little worried about it you know can he still pull it off and he was doing it but he could see
00:15:37
that he was starting to sweat and really struggle physically while he was babbalooing and he wouldn't stop and and
00:15:44
then he looked closer on the screen and he's like Desi's lips started to turn blue and he started to worry like oh
00:15:51
he's about to die and he like just pulled the plug on it and said just go
00:15:57
to commercial whatever and uh and then I was like wait a second are
00:16:02
you telling me this story cuz you're worried I'm going to Hi When did he tell you the story
00:16:11
Word He was just warning me not to go too hard cuz if I went full hard hard as
00:16:17
a [ __ ] that I could I could uh But you're a kid You're 55 right Exactly
00:16:23
It's like know it's apples and oranges
00:16:29
[Music] Don't you love the matching numbers 33 44 55 still alive 56 I'm going to fix 57
00:16:38
I'm in heaven 58 don't be late 59 won't you be mine 60 oh 60 I had no rhyme for
00:16:46
that one but 55 is a cool age I could yeah so I like that I mean doing
00:16:51
Minecraft doing that is doing a movie grind every day no one even thinks about it but it's I don't know where you're on
00:16:58
location or what you're doing but just to get up every day memorize your lines be on the set take after take heat cold
00:17:04
changing working with CGI It's a beating lights Oh yeah Working with CGI Where'd you do
00:17:10
it We did it all in New Zealand uh in Auckland Oh and that was a great kind of
00:17:16
reunion for me with some of those crew members cuz I had worked in New Zealand on King Kong 20 years earlier Yeah Yeah
00:17:23
That was the last time I I hosted SNL as a matter of fact cuz I Oh for And I did
00:17:29
a King Kong song in my monologue that time 20 years ago King Kong song
00:17:35
Oh Steve Higgins really helped out with that one King of Kong Was that Naomi Watts Yep Oh that was Naomi Watts Oh
00:17:44
yeah And uh I saw it Adrien Brody Oscar Oscar Two time Oscar That guy you don't
00:17:51
see him for a while and then it's an Oscar Yes And he's great in that era
00:17:56
apparently You know you put him in World War II era he wins Oscars every time But
00:18:01
yeah I carried around one of those oldtimey cameras and I was the film director It was really Yeah it was heavy
00:18:08
And and Peter Jackson he's a he's a real uh stickler for authenticity No I
00:18:16
thought you were going to say that I'm like no no give me a cardboard One time on Tommy Boy I had a a briefcase and
00:18:22
everything was too heavy for me I'm like "Guys I'm just trying to float through this scene I got a bad neck." And they're like "All right." And then then
00:18:29
I go "Fuck What do you got in this briefcase Baby's first bricks." And then I open it up and it's stuffed with files
00:18:36
to make it real I go "Listen no one's looking inside the b I'm just carrying it." And they go "Okay." So the prop guy
00:18:41
brings it back I go "Oo it's light." And he goes "Yeah we took the pulp out of the paper." I go "Thank you
00:18:48
They were being an [ __ ] to me I didn't I didn't even catch it I'm like "Oh good job."
00:18:54
Yeah but it matters Lugging that every take and you're on a mountain side or something I don't know Yeah Um but I had
00:19:01
a ball I had a ball on that one I'm We uh What's King Kong been up to
00:19:08
You still talk to him Yeah man He's uh he's directing now After the shoot
00:19:13
everyone kind of goes their own way So you did you go to the party I mean you seem pretty well put together Did
00:19:20
you How did When did you crash The afterparty You go all night after all I mean no I did I did go to the party You
00:19:27
have to go to the party It's But you're the host You're kind of the host of the party I know Um uh went went there and
00:19:35
uh gave hugs to all my peeps and and said hi to Lauren thanked him for for
00:19:40
the the fun opportunity Um did you know Minecraft was killing at
00:19:46
that point Gave you a little extra cheese Yes it was kind of a a great thing about being on on SNL is that we
00:19:53
had the the movie was already doing gang busters So it was kind of like a a Yeah
00:19:58
that will relax a hop that they have this bohemoth as they come in in their back pocket Like I sure hope goes good
00:20:07
but you know we're we're probably going to be over we're over 300 million right now Sorry but I guess you know it's a
00:20:17
win the wind beneath your wings carried me through Um but it doesn't really
00:20:23
matter Look it doesn't really matter because when you're on SNL it doesn't m there's no such thing as like a victory lap You're still terrified of [ __ ] in
00:20:30
the bed So I was like I I I I was pretty I was pretty amped and uh and ready to
00:20:37
go But yeah there's a there's a fear factor as well No question about it when
00:20:43
you're standing back there at that door that back door when they're counting down the 10 seconds
00:20:48
when Jeie I just did it It's just terrifying Jenna this is so weird and
00:20:53
one line goes off or or or or you know Liz the director if there's cuts between
00:20:59
dress and air and I told this it's just like I really hit me how hard it is to know when to go where you're just seeing
00:21:05
it for the first time when do you come off Jack and then go there um I was just
00:21:10
curious which ones blew up for you in your mind like [ __ ] we hit it because you want the air show to be we really
00:21:16
hit it so love match is going viral oh and I thought it was inspired writing as
00:21:22
well Yeah And Dismukes was really funny He really was mad at me It felt like I I
00:21:28
felt like he he's really mad at me What is it It was great Great And uh uh uh
00:21:35
that one felt great I got to say I was impressed with all the writing I I liked all of them And even a couple of the
00:21:42
ones that got cut I wished they had made it There was one where that got cut where I was a a father who who wanted to
00:21:50
come visit his sons the divorced couple and wanted to come visit his kids And I
00:21:55
had to confess hey uh I've been coming here every day pretending to be the maid
00:22:01
kind of like Mrs Doubtfire style It was a really funny idea and the confession that I was the Doubtfire maiden but I
00:22:09
was also from Trinidad so it was really Oh [ __ ] Wait my my sports television
00:22:14
just came on I got to turn that off Uh you ever do that Warriors Okay you hold
00:22:20
it for an hour and then it kicks back on Was first take I like to hear the talking heads talk about the sports Um
00:22:27
the Lakers Yeah I'll do it for you Luca
00:22:32
Luca She's good Yeah Hey while I got you I'm going to turn the tables I'm going
00:22:38
to ask a couple questions Um please do Spade first of all I've read all your
00:22:43
books Spade Um and when I say when I say I read them I mean I listened to them
00:22:48
Yeah Which is actually the way you're supposed to take in your books in my opinion cuz your delivery is kind of
00:22:55
like half of the magic And I noticed you know that because if you want to buy your book it costs five bucks but if you
00:23:02
want to listen to your book it costs 20 bucks I was like "Oh he knows He knows." That's true I didn't know that No it's
00:23:08
not that That's not the cost spread I just noticed it cost a little bit more You want to hear the delivery Sure And
00:23:14
making the beak making me laugh very hard No I see Jack Black over the years and uh he is as advertised He's fun He's
00:23:23
in a good mood He's nice and uh the true story A couple laughs for sure The true
00:23:28
story I don't see him enough So that's not really a question I just wanted to tell you I'm a fan of your readings and
00:23:34
I look forward to the Are you working on another one No No You're done You're like
00:23:41
No I just did a special because the standup it really is um kind of
00:23:46
podcasting sort of jumped instead of audio books you know what I mean I sort
00:23:52
of told my life story and then now when you we do this we just tell our same stories every week And then um to do a
00:24:00
standup special same thing It's like just it's all it's all blurring in the same thing people sometimes I told Dana
00:24:05
I do standup and then uh these nitpickers are like on in my Instagram on Monday going actually I saw a part of
00:24:13
one of those stories on Ellen a few years ago I go yeah no [ __ ] Sherlock I got to scrape together a
00:24:20
goddamn hour and of course I'm going to dig in anywhere I can I don't know I don't have any adventures anymore No
00:24:27
I've made peace with the fact that I'm going to be repeating my same life stories over and over again in every interview for the rest of my life It is
00:24:34
what it is And I've made peace with it I know I don't have my teens anymore Here's the thing Oh I can't tell the
00:24:40
same story cuz then people will go "Oh I've already heard it and turn." Nine times out of 10 they've never heard the
00:24:46
story or don't remember the story Who the [ __ ] cares You just tell your story Well they like to hear it again And you never tell the same way I do my acting I
00:24:52
was doing standup this weekend Oh sorry Jack Just give me 20 minutes here I was doing standup
00:24:57
and and I tell I go I'm doing all this new stuff because I have to put together more material and I'm like give me my
00:25:04
old juicy closer that [ __ ] works where you know what I mean You go why do I have to throw this in the garbage and
00:25:10
then you never get complaints if you do a bit that kills No one's ever like I loved it but I think I've heard it It's
00:25:16
like good when I see comics with a bit of 1983
00:25:22
Dana I have a question for you I have a question for you Dana Now I'm gonna turn the tables again Yeah Turn It's your
00:25:29
turn to be in the hot seat It's like and Maro on Broadway You know how You know how like when when when you host SNL you
00:25:37
get a little dinner early in the week like a Tuesday dinner right And that
00:25:42
Lauren hosts but really you're hosting cuz you're the host You're also the kind of the host You sit next to Lauren and
00:25:49
you feel a little pressure to like entertain the table cuz it's like you're the host So I don't know Zingy zingy
00:25:54
boom boom And sure somehow we got on the topic of your appearance on Bill Maher's
00:26:00
uh Real Time with Bill Maher And how you just didn't let him get a word in
00:26:05
edgewise and it was the funniest on I like that show I watched
00:26:11
that show and I'd never seen anyone just take full command like you did And I was
00:26:18
Yeah we were all singing your praises Did you go did you go on to Bill Maher
00:26:23
real time with that plan or did that just No you just showed up and then he's just I you know if you're on a roll it's
00:26:31
better not I'm doing this stuff without an audience and SNL doing Biden it was a
00:26:37
little I was part of a team and it's sort of like I came out and there are 80
00:26:42
people standing up with a lot of noise and so that just triggered me like okay
00:26:49
I'm just going to ride this wave And then I realized that you know Bill we kind of got to know him He's a bit of a
00:26:55
kaggen so you kind of want to you want to fluff up his hair and give him a hug you know kind like you know because you
00:27:01
know underneath there's a marshmallow there somewhere But um just rode the wave Had a had a lot to get out of my
00:27:08
brain I guess And but uh yeah it was it's fun when you just don't you just
00:27:14
let you let go You're not really thinking I had I was doing a truncated version of what I do on stage right now
00:27:20
But anyway that makes me happy Thank you Well uh um do you do any music on your
00:27:26
on stage act now Oh yeah I've never stopped because in the honky tonk bars
00:27:32
uh you know clubs I used to play the audience would start to fade and talk
00:27:37
and they were drunk Show us your dick And then there'd be the blender Yeah So I started bringing acoustic guitar up
00:27:44
and fiddling around with it and playing chords and doing Neil Young and things like that just because of the noise
00:27:50
would get the audience to like stop talking So yeah I do like to play guitar at the end and uh I do different things
00:27:57
like something you would do I do a thing about a a heavy metal guy who's angry at the microphone So he's walking away from
00:28:03
it and really hitting these power cords and he goes toward it and then he walks back you know So I do stuff like that I
00:28:09
love do I love playing the guitar on stage but I do it again Just so just so your audience knows um uh Dana Dana I've
00:28:18
told you Dana but you were such a big influence on me early on when I was watching SNL and I saw you play that
00:28:24
song uh the broccoli song Drop broccoli Yeah Where clearly you were making the
00:28:30
the gag was that you were making it up as you went along Mhm But um I I don't
00:28:35
know if I'd ever laugh that hard And just seeing like a song kill like that and be so [ __ ] funny And also the
00:28:43
reactions to your song of them just like drinking up every
00:28:50
sing Yeah Yeah Yeah But uh it was a big inspiration and a big big reason why I
00:28:55
started doing uh comedy music combos So I don't know if you get that in people
00:29:00
coming up to you now and saying you know I saw you do this and I'm doing this But that always shocked me I didn't I had
00:29:08
not watched that sketch until maybe two months ago I never watched anything and
00:29:13
I thought "Oh that was pretty good." You know cuz I self-critical But it's it's what about it people like
00:29:20
to watch People yell it out because I guess there's no joke Uh and you your style is kind of rhythmic and I don't
00:29:28
know what you call it too but abstract um and uh musical really
00:29:35
[Music] I was going to ask you what do you listen to What What do you You know it's
00:29:42
funny I'm glad you asked that because it's kind of my main thing that I do with my time The content I like to put
00:29:47
into my headphones when I go on my walks to get my steps so I can live longer Yeah I like to listen cuz I realized I'm
00:29:55
not listening to music at all I'm listening to podcasts I'm listening to books I want to listen to music again So
00:30:01
I came up with this plan Chrono Marathons So you take bands that you
00:30:06
already love that you've loved all your life but you haven't really listened to in a long time and you go from the very
00:30:12
beginning their first album chronologically over the course of their whole catalog And it's a great way to
00:30:20
just plug back into music And it's the anti- like quick uh one song at a time
00:30:26
Spotify or whatever that Pandora's where it AI picks [ __ ] for you It's like oh yeah it's reading my mind Nah you take
00:30:34
command and you listen [ __ ] you AI Take this It's going to sound really dumb but you know I did the classics Okay I did
00:30:42
the boring ones like I started with I think I start Did I
00:30:47
start with Pink Floyd I think it was Pink Floyd right out of the animals Has there ever been a better album than Dark
00:30:54
Side Steely Uh yeah Weirdly the very next one they did right after that but
00:31:01
cuz Wish You Were Here I think it's a better It's a better It's a [ __ ]
00:31:06
great record But that's their window because before Dark Side of the Moon there's great moments and like
00:31:13
interesting and like you can see oh I can see they're starting to get there They're starting to figure it out Mhm
00:31:19
But Dark Side of the Moon it's an it's a just a bomb that goes off where it's like this is the beginning of their real
00:31:28
incredible window Cuz then the next album uh uh Wish You Were Here And then the wall that to me is their window The
00:31:36
next the ones after that people say "No no you got to put animals in there." I say "No I think the window's closing."
00:31:43
It's it's good No there's good stuff But that way and it's cool to see all the bands you pick all of them they have a
00:31:50
window where it's like yeah they're great and then the ending stuff there's some good stuff later but that you know
00:31:55
and it's fascinating to to find that that juice cuz you go oh yeah I love Billy Joe when do you love Billy Joe cuz
00:32:03
there's a window you don't love all of it there's some hot you I want to ask
00:32:08
you a Pink Floyd question just for a second are you part of the cadre of people who If they have to nominate the
00:32:16
best solo in rock history they they often there's a lot of great guitar
00:32:22
players Beck and everybody but David Gilmore and Comfortably Numbar solo tone
00:32:29
choice of note whatever you want to call it every time I hear it I go really Uh that's not human It's so funny Yeah Yeah
00:32:37
it is It is Yeah he is definitely in my top three I love David Gilmore Oh good
00:32:43
call What Um Comfortably Numb is on which album Comfortably Numb is is on uh
00:32:49
the the the uh the wall of course Okay don't act like I'm dumb [ __ ] Hey um I
00:32:55
feel like it was a test If I failed it all of a sudden It was a test I'm like "Oh wait I didn't want to trip him up."
00:33:01
But what about Animals album It has a soft spot Oh don't get me going on the White Album I
00:33:07
love it Dana hold on with your Beatles I know I was going to say no surprise the
00:33:13
best the best chronomarathon you can do is the Beatles but don't do that first
00:33:18
because then you don't really want to do any more chrono marathons after the Beatles cuz everything sounds like garbage Jeez you're like my new best
00:33:25
friend It's too good I know And too varied I mean I was talking to the guy
00:33:31
who just produced um what was Jimmy Fallon and the gentleman who just produced Elton John's album I'm so sorry
00:33:39
for Oh yeah Yeah No no His name is Watt Yes And Andrew Watt Andrew Watt Super
00:33:45
nice guy Hung out with him at the parties Brilliant Really smart And him and Jimmy Fallon Oh yeah We love the a
00:33:51
lot you know And I said to both of them I just said "Have you what do you think
00:33:57
of that?" They go "Abby Road you have you listened to Revolver?" And neither of them really were familiar with
00:34:03
Revolver Yeah Come on I mean Elanena Riby
00:34:09
um She's Leaving Home Um and Your Bird Can Sing Yeah Uh Lennon's first song was
00:34:16
uh was it Girl or No one one of those Leniny songs you know Anyway so I I feel
00:34:24
the same way I also I also Zeppelin will come on sometimes on SiriusXM and I I go
00:34:30
that shouldn't be allowed It shouldn't happen Zeppelin is a weird one where their window actually was almost the
00:34:37
whole thing They didn't have any any any That's true That's true The the last
00:34:42
album Kota it was hit or miss There's there there's still still some crushing
00:34:48
jams on that one but for the most part it's an insane like you do you do wonder
00:34:54
wait did did they worship Satan Cuz how did they get so many great records and so many great riffs How long was that
00:35:01
run Jack of Zeppelin What was that It's a nine It's a nine album run It's a nine album run And right out of the gate you
00:35:08
got good times bad times One of my favorite songs of all time And um is
00:35:13
that purple Just John Bonham and whoever miked his drums or how they got the
00:35:18
value and the connection between the snare and the kick drum We talked with Bill Burr about this because he's a
00:35:25
drummer uh and a drummer fanatic you know but that tone Bill Burr also great
00:35:31
on on Bill Maher Bill Burr came out and really went straight at him Oh that
00:35:36
wasn't that wasn't on his show That was on his podcast Club Random Yeah You come in here with your smart ideas You think
00:35:43
you know all this [ __ ] stuff You know you're just an armchair athlete You don't know [ __ ] dick All right Bill I
00:35:48
mean I was Bill just I love to watch him get roasted It's great Yeah But I really
00:35:54
want to go see him on Broadway He's on Broadway right now with Bob Odenkirk who we all know and and have in common as a
00:36:02
friend Definitely at the show to see Bob Odenkirk Gilbert was at the show I think
00:36:07
they just did their Broadway show Glengary Glenn Ross Yeah and just walked over to 30 Rock cuz they were all well
00:36:15
three of them were there cuz Kieran was there Bill and Bob But I want to go see that I'm going to
00:36:22
find a I'm going to find an excuse to fly out there Jack killed it
00:36:28
Bob Odenberg Oh my god it's so good It was so funny You know Bob gave me my big
00:36:34
break because he he put Tenacious D on HBO Mr with Yep little short films that
00:36:40
would would play before Mr Show and uh that put us on the map and so I always I
00:36:46
always uh thank my lucky stars that uh that's an eye path What was your movie that
00:36:53
kind of boosted you up Was it High High Fidelity It was High Fidelity that got me really going Yeah that was the one
00:37:00
game and that was because uh uh uh uh uh uh John Cusack liked Tenacious D I
00:37:07
always think it was him that pushed it through because he was you know the he's the star producer and writer of that of
00:37:14
that jam and big I didn't know he wrote it that big Yeah Well he co-wrote it
00:37:19
before School of Rock with Steve Pink and DV Decentes But um yeah so that was
00:37:26
before School of Rock and that was uh that was a big one because at the
00:37:32
premiere for High Fidelity um at the afterparty George Clooney came
00:37:38
up and I was with my mom and he said that was [ __ ] incredible Something
00:37:44
like that I can't remember what he said And my mom just about shatter pants It was like I knew it was like oh this is
00:37:50
different This is a different one Dude he was at a premier mine and he talked to my mom too I swear to God And my mom
00:37:56
was [ __ ] flipping out He knows what to say Almost pushed me into a wood chipper Yeah he
00:38:03
Yes I mean he's got the power Oh yeah It was nailing it He was right in the
00:38:09
pocket too Uh Trop Thunder of course The holiday is one that a lot of people love
00:38:15
The holiday The holiday How did you weasel into that one Well I I it was
00:38:20
really out of my comfort zone There's really isn't it like Jude Law and one of
00:38:25
my wife's favorite movies It's in her rotation every year
00:38:30
that um come Yeah Kate Winslet Dude I I
00:38:35
[ __ ] up and said Kate Blanchett when I meant Winslet That's their fault though Their names are too similar Yeah that's
00:38:42
that's not playing fair But that was really the the best part is like Yeah
00:38:47
How am I in a scene with Kate Winslet and we're like uh semi-romantic How is
00:38:53
How did I get How did I get this part Um but I I was like I'm going to roll with
00:38:59
it She seems cool and she seems cool as hell snoody She seems she's not snoody but she's
00:39:05
uh definitely uh there's something in my mind that
00:39:10
looks wrong with that picture It's like no the these all these scenes should be
00:39:15
how uh she's out of my league Uh okay whatever I'm just going to pretend like this is normal And that was the acting
00:39:21
was just acting like this isn't uh ridiculous Uh yeah And Cameron Diaz is a blast
00:39:29
She's I was never in that situation in a movie You haven't They always put like a goofy comedian
00:39:36
like us with some hottie and everyone's supposed to buy it It's the best Yeah
00:39:41
Yeah it's so great They go "Wait what part of mine?" And I'm like "The part that the girl that falls in love with me
00:39:47
and they're like "Oh I got to reread it then I didn't think that would be
00:39:53
me." And you got your old Tropic Thunder Hilarious Uh just running I'm just
00:39:59
running through these Jack You've heard of these Tropic Thunder All I really think about infamous at this point
00:40:05
There's never been a movie made like it before there with these best comedies
00:40:10
You know it's danced outside the lines how we say it Oh you were blonde hair in
00:40:16
that That's some blonde But Robert Downey Jr got an Oscar nomination You
00:40:22
don't hear about that very often in the comedies Uh was it for that supporting
00:40:27
role in Yes in Tropic Thunder Oh I didn't know that Um Ben
00:40:33
Stiller he really wanted to shoot that like a beautiful not like a comedy He
00:40:38
wanted it to look like a gorgeous Oscar non And he got like the best outdoor
00:40:44
cinematographer in the world Uh whose name escapes me now but he's genius Of
00:40:49
course it does Sorry about that I can't remember any names Just uh What about Casualties of War It's probably that guy
00:40:56
Yeah they have those old those old movies like that Uh-oh Yeah War I'm not
00:41:02
going to make you do it No I think that's not a leaders of war Do you do
00:41:09
you do Shan Pen or Michael J Fox Sean Penn She's a VCore
00:41:16
Um Clarky do you remember that movie Of course I saw Riley John Riley was Clark
00:41:23
John C Riley That was a weird pick for Michael J Fox to be in that movie Yeah Well he was
00:41:30
going he was going for that uh that switcheroo Well you know because he he'd
00:41:36
been known for comedies and he wanted to say "Hey wait a second Let's see Let's just test the waters Let me dip my toe
00:41:42
in these other water." You can't blame him Uh sometimes it sometimes it works Look at uh Steve Carell Look at Steve
00:41:50
Carell If you want about going from comedy to drama that blows my mind when
00:41:55
some And you don't know until you try So why the hell not It's fun to try The
00:42:01
worst that can happen is that you can be horrible and never work again Do you get
00:42:06
wounded easily Do you read comments or reviews that you don't and do do you read them at all And do you get wounded
00:42:12
or you have a good attitude Like that's just that guy's opinion [ __ ] him or whatever Yeah I I read the negative ones
00:42:19
I skip over the good ones I'll get I get the gist of it and like Yeah yeah yeah Okay good That's and I look for those
00:42:25
bad ones I'll read every word and I will like mutter to myself "Fuck you You
00:42:30
[ __ ] asshole." Who is that Yeah I do too Owen Gleberman or whoever it is I'm not a guy from Entertainment Weekly He
00:42:38
hated me too Owen Gleberman That guy's famous troll I'm going to I'm going to
00:42:45
commit this name to memory and if I ever see this this reviewer on the street
00:42:51
I'll have some choice words I've never followed up on any of them but sure Is
00:42:56
like his review was it was a little harsh He said "Tommy boy this worthless piece of shit." I'm like "Hey come on
00:43:02
It's a magazine." He didn't say that No he usually hated everything pretty
00:43:10
hard Here's your review for Saturday Night Live I have it right here Jack is
00:43:16
nothing short of a miracle He just sang season 50 of SNL Over here I have
00:43:22
Minecraft Jack Black is exceptional It's
00:43:28
a performance that shouldn't be this good but it is He owns every second of
00:43:33
the movie This is a Jack Black summer Oh man that Thank you for cherrypicking the
00:43:40
good ones cuz I know it's a splat on Rotten Tomatoes You had to go find those fresh ones Splat You found some fresh
00:43:46
ones for me Thank you Well on YouTube there's combined to get 100 Here's a here's a 10 times Jack Black wasn't
00:43:54
funny It's got 48 million views
00:44:02
Is that really on YouTube I'm sure that's real I see in the corner of my eye was Dan
00:44:09
Carvey ever funny And I click off as fast as I can Is there any evidence ever
00:44:14
10 movies David Spade ruined with his presence That was made
00:44:20
up It sounded a little too real though cuz they do that That's a genre was was
00:44:25
48 million was a lie 48 million was stout But are you writing Oh how are you
00:44:31
emotional I don't know if you have a therapist or anything but like this big whoo And I know you've got this big life
00:44:37
you're a mature adult person and you see where uh there's highs and lows of a career and this and that but where are
00:44:43
you able to kind of like sit for a moment I've done good Do you have a moment of yourself or are you a little
00:44:50
numb right now actually Um I try to look for the one bad thing that's happening and focus on that That keeps me grounded
00:44:58
Yeah you had to do this today And why would you book this so soon Couldn't you get a week off I tell you why I was
00:45:04
looking forward to this I I I love you guys and I I I've been hoping that we could uh get it together I I I
00:45:12
uh I feel good Feels good Yeah A hit Um I'm always skeptical though I'm like can
00:45:19
we just wait for a second before we go talk calling it a hit What if it tanks next weekend Let's see if this baby's
00:45:25
got legs Talk to me in a couple weeks Okay guys I'm always stop throwing
00:45:30
What's the number where you will just go it's a hit like a billion or 500 million
00:45:36
global box office What's the number you would go Okay cuz it's it's probably 350
00:45:41
by the by the end of this weekend I predict it'll be here's the thing I do have I do have a
00:45:48
little thing about numbers and math I do like to think about that So I go okay if it cost 150 to make and then you figure
00:45:56
they probably spent almost that much on promoting it So there's 300 right there
00:46:01
And then you go okay so if it goes if you go to a theater and and it makes the monies if it makes 300 million then is
00:46:09
it broken even No because you only get half of that The theaters keep half the money So then you got to make double
00:46:15
that You got to make 600 million really to break even And then you go okay so 600 So that's break even So it's not
00:46:21
really a hit until it's made more than 600 So you got to make like 700 Such a gamble to think that it's really a hit
00:46:28
700 That's a big monster number Do you have gross points on the film No I don't
00:46:35
This might not be true but my manager said no they don't do that anymore Maybe that's not true Maybe maybe she's just
00:46:41
telling me that so that uh I'm I don't feel jealous of Jason Mimoa I don't know what Jason Mamoa's deal is Maybe he got
00:46:48
the gross points Okay this is on entertainmentweekly.com Jack Black forego salary for gross points on um a
00:46:59
that what's it a Minecraft movie Oh man I wish good lord could you imagine if I
00:47:05
had pulled that gamble I never bet on myself like that I'm always like "No no just make sure we get the money up
00:47:11
front." Yeah Yeah Yeah And it's always like you know the taxes and the commissions and then the box office It's
00:47:17
like you're just running in water So you can't ever Can a brother get a D I mean it's a it's a first world complaint I
00:47:23
get rich but you everyone hears it made a billion Can I get a nickel brother No we we're not even profit yet Yeah
00:47:32
Yeah No I'm It's a risky game
00:47:38
[Music] All right we'll let Jack go but let me ask a couple wrap-up questions Just 30
00:47:44
quick questions Rapid I'll go I'll try to rapid fire I'm not good at these I'm a slow guy
00:47:50
I've got this one or this one series of questions It'll be quick All right
00:47:56
No this is uh just want to say good job in Jumanji I thought that was good Oh thank you I like Jumanji Yeah Jumanji
00:48:03
was great And I go I watch that and I go I get why this is a hit Yeah it wasn't even exactly for me It's kind of for
00:48:09
slightly younger but I'm like I get it It's funny It's cool Weird I like it
00:48:14
Glad they kept doing them I'd say when you're not doing drama you did you do drama If you're not doing drama then I
00:48:22
think it's a underrated commodity and it happened on SNL I haven't seen Minecraft
00:48:27
yet but that you uh you are fun Oh good
00:48:34
And make people happy So when I see you out there dancing and singing I'm just happy And you're fun And I do think
00:48:40
where the world is today or whatever you want to call that It's just fun is underrated You know fun And when you're
00:48:46
having fun and you were having fun the whole show I believe with the uh the Indiana Jones guy and the whip Uh the
00:48:55
first play guy was that was so that was great too You know that was fantastic Uh
00:49:03
dry one that I like you know bass bass lake where everyone keeps playing bass
00:49:09
Another one that was great Oneupers was really funny for everybody Oh yeah those
00:49:14
camera angles I was still a little sweaty from my monologue when we did that though I noticed on the close-up
00:49:21
but yeah really making love really started out and then really killed it
00:49:26
with Brandy with the eagle noise That was that was a oneupping cuz we were
00:49:32
oneupping each other with how socially conscious we all were and it would make
00:49:37
the eagle noise Uh that one was really funny to me It had like hints of Debbie
00:49:42
Downer you know what I mean where it's like the sound and then looking right down the barrel of the camera It just
00:49:48
works It just works And uh it was well written Well to to connect it to uh people flexing uh to everyone else or
00:49:55
what they're doing is so great and then have the violence of you know take that I mean it was just that was inspired I
00:50:03
thought the writing was really first rate I thought it was inspired writing Um the goth kid vacation really made me
00:50:10
laugh and you came in there Oh yeah that was a great pre-tape We filmed that the day before But um but that other that
00:50:18
other song the making love that was uh uh Oh [ __ ] I'm getting a phone call
00:50:25
Sarah Squ Sorry Is it Sarah We have editing capabilities Go ahead Why didn't
00:50:31
I I should have done the thing where I where I uh where you turn off your phone Yeah Duh Um you call Entertainment
00:50:38
Weekly back Yeah Uh anyways um that making love one
00:50:46
we did uh we did it in uh the rehearsal before the dress rehearsal and it was
00:50:52
just it was a hot mess I was like there's zero chance this is going to make it to air And uh something happened
00:50:59
where they just cut out a few lyrics a couple stanzas made it a little easier
00:51:06
and all of a sudden it was one of my favorites of the whole night And that song really was like a catchy tune And
00:51:13
when when uh Brandy Carile comes in at the end and sings her ass off it's like
00:51:18
holy [ __ ] So it's kind of a funny thing that can happen where it from the first rehearsal to to the dress rehearsal
00:51:25
something can click and it gets to be a hundred times better I know And then it
00:51:31
clicks and then it's on live TV and you're done with it That when it works when it really came together you two
00:51:37
floating in air and then Bowen and then her voice sounded so great I just
00:51:43
was it a lavalier mic or they put a little bit of echo on it She was just well she has one of the voices of our
00:51:50
time basically She actually does have just an incredible voice but I I uh yeah
00:51:55
they did a good job job of miking her but I think it is just her her uh her resonating chamber I think the Joker
00:52:02
chamber the Joker is one of the best you know kind of pop rock song of the last
00:52:08
decade and I've played it for people we you know sometimes with people you're around maybe YouTube's on you go hey
00:52:14
have you heard this song heard that song I've won stereo awards by going "Have you heard this?" And then they they just
00:52:21
go they can't believe it how brilliant the lyrics are and her vocal is crazy So I think uh another one that deserves a
00:52:28
shout out cuz in the in the first read through that we did on like that first day or the second day Mhm There was this
00:52:35
one for the uh uh the Flaming Hot Cheetos and then the Flaming Hot
00:52:41
Preparation H I laughed so hard in the read through that I got a little bit
00:52:46
injured Have you ever had that where you laugh too hard and and you pull a muscle in your ribs and it made me like have to
00:52:53
hold a different body position for the next two skits sketches and uh and I was
00:53:00
really glad that that made it to air But when I saw the final version of it I was
00:53:05
like "Oh holy shit." You can see like the side of my butt cheek This is really kind of way more intense than I had even
00:53:12
imagined while we were reading it at the table But but they added so many graphics and well you've shown
00:53:18
throughout your career that your your game for anything like you know I mean but I did see the side of your ass and I
00:53:25
thought where is this going How graphic is this going to go Yeah Show more ass
00:53:30
Yeah They didn't show hole but they shake you could ever want Uh we did the
00:53:36
pre-tapes like the day before I did We do those on Friday No I think we did them on Thursday but it was a lot I mean
00:53:42
they [ __ ] beat you up It was on Friday and it was I remember cuz I had to wake up at the [ __ ] crack and do
00:53:51
like almost a full day of pre-tapes cuz we did two we did Preparation H and uh
00:53:58
Goth Kid in Jamaica which was also really fun Two pre-tapes Did you do that in readthrough or do you Oh you said
00:54:05
read through But for pretapes they don't just assign them You actually read them and say "Oh they're working." Yeah But
00:54:12
they you know uh uh Yeah I I uh uh I was down I like the idea of
00:54:19
pretapes cuz even though it's a long day it lightens the load on the actual show
00:54:24
And they both crush They both are great Did you I mean your energy did you ever
00:54:30
like before the air show were you in your dressing room kind of going okay are you like Fraser on the stool coming
00:54:36
out in the 15th round or are you feeling really good cuz it's like the audience and the live element
00:54:43
will bring a lot of energy but it seemed like your energy was just perfectly up there all the way through the show must
00:54:50
have felt good because you don't know it's like riding a horse and you go do I have this and you got it You know what's
00:54:55
weird is right before the show uh a couple hours before actually um Donna
00:55:02
the the lady the real nice lady who dresses you and does all the quick changes is running all around she said
00:55:09
um is there anything you'd like to eat honey And I've got this feeling like that's what it sounds like right before
00:55:15
you die when they say this is your last meal before the electric chair Anything you want And I was like I I really have
00:55:22
a a a taste for like an Italian chopped salad no onions You got it babe We're
00:55:28
going to get it for you I know I love when they're calm backstage But when I was there with with my uh and everybody
00:55:35
everybody felt like right after dress everyone wanted to literally just crawl into a bed Like there's a moment I said
00:55:41
"This is normal right now You're going to want to go to sleep You're exhausted." I did take a nap Yeah you
00:55:47
did Yeah Well you did have to dress I didn't take a nap but I laid down cuz there's like an hour and a half two Yeah
00:55:53
And I just like they Donna got me a nice pillow and I just put my head down for a
00:55:58
little while [ __ ] baby Cuz the knocking is the tough part You know if you they someone didn't get the memo and
00:56:04
you're just about to nod off Oh yeah No excuse me Oh I'm sorry I didn't know you were resting Oh it's just we're doing a
00:56:11
change on the I I'll come back later
00:56:16
All right let's let him go Dan he's been a good sport Oh man great to see you guys Jack you're a stud dude Thanks for
00:56:22
talking We're the best I love I love the Chrono idea I'm going to do that Um
00:56:29
Chrono Marathon Yeah I'm going to do it I've been doing it with the Beatles Maybe I'll do top Have you Have you done
00:56:35
it Have you done it with the Beatles The Chrono Marathon Well I I'm I just do so much of them but but I haven't done
00:56:42
literally from Love Me Do all the way to the side too No that would be another
00:56:47
way You skip those early albums a lot because you're like nah they were still just kids They didn't really get their sea legs to rubber soul but you got to
00:56:55
go all the way Well let me just say two things before we hang up because this is you know the early Beatles some Oh they
00:57:02
weren't so good No they they did the best two-minute pop song She Loves You I Want to Hold Your Hand they reinvented
00:57:07
the genre It's not like they got better It's just the group that became that group Of course they would do the best
00:57:13
two-minute pop songs in history Um and um the other one was that I uh
00:57:22
Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields were recorded before Sergeant Pepper after
00:57:27
Revolver They were going to be on Sergeant Pepper but they made him into Double Aside So they were just a single
00:57:34
Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane And then they ended up all the leftovers ended up along with I am a Walrus on
00:57:41
Magical Mystery Tour So Magical Missy Tour in some ways is the greatest album ever made because it has Strawberry
00:57:46
Fields I'm a Walrus and Penny Lane Just those three and others Did you see that
00:57:52
eight hour movie that Peter Jackson made Oh yeah That's the [ __ ] That's your boy I had to break it up into three
00:57:59
pieces though I watched like the the first three hours second but um that boy
00:58:06
I to see them to see them writing that album Um let it be right It was uh uh
00:58:16
that's one of those times where you're like if I could just be a fly on the wall for this one time in history that
00:58:21
would be heaven He [ __ ] got it He got the He got the fly on the wall in one of the top 10 things you'd ever want to
00:58:28
watch Four weeks later they go to Abi Road with George Martin and they're starting to do Abby Road and you know
00:58:36
because you see the ancence there He's going you know I don't know what to in the way you know just say like a
00:58:42
cauliflower you know something till you get the lyric you know what's funny to me is that the whole film all of that
00:58:48
shooting was an afterthought It was the camera crew and director who was filming some shitty movie that that uh um Ringo
00:58:57
Star was shooting that no one ever heard of or saw but they were like "Hey since we're here is it okay if we just like
00:59:03
film the making of your next album with the Beatles Ask the boys Is it cool if this guy comes in and
00:59:11
films?" We probably should actually It's not a bad idea And then they got this
00:59:16
gold that sat there I love the guy who keeps on going "Guys you've got to do the
00:59:23
final farewell concert in Dubai or wherever the [ __ ] is the worst idea
00:59:29
Wherever it was it's like they're going to end up on the roof of the building you're in you jackass." But cuz he kept
00:59:35
on pushing it Now you got to go to I can't remember where it was Um all right
00:59:41
Well Dubai that it's been a blast hanging out with you and uh we'll see you around campus Yes this has been a
