Superfly I'm going to Z up the background soon everyone just so you know it's not going to be it might be
00:00:26
green but I'm going to put some stuff up you know I should put a shelf put some cool things
00:00:31
and um cuz when I watch a podcast I'm really looking at the background we both have
00:00:38
the literally worst ones but well I have the most benign it's like a it looks like a a set of of nothingness there is
00:00:45
nothing it would be it would be better if it was a fake green screen of just
00:00:51
that yeah at one point I just go like this it's a part of a curtain we'll get
00:00:56
you your Carvey sign to match my Spade one back there and okay maybe I'll put my tour dates oh yeah tour dates tour
00:01:03
dates d.com where I going yellow cities Boston
00:01:08
New Jersey Boston you don't do it because it's easy to do it because it's hard Boston next de MO is almost sold
00:01:16
out I think um de MO is might have to add a show in De Mo I don't know if we're I played the county fair there you
00:01:24
know I don't like adding shows I like to just do it fill it up and then just come back on the next round and do it again I
00:01:29
don't right they add one and then you have that second show where it's a little sparse and it's kind of
00:01:37
a yeah sometimes they F second so I'm doing ABQ
00:01:44
Albuquerque Albuquerque okay 5,000 feet and Portland has a lot of I've been
00:01:52
there the most but they always have a good crowd they always show up so what is it the Albert schneiter theater is
00:01:58
that I think it's the Albert Schnitzer all I played that years ago yeah I never forgot the name I could never pronounce
00:02:04
it but the AL Albert schn arene Schnitzer arene Schnitzer theater
00:02:10
something like that that's why the audiences are good because they their expectations are so low going in there a
00:02:16
name like oh Omaha Omaha Shout Out Try to try to get
00:02:22
some U new insurance when you're out at Omaha that's try to get some that's the health insurance capital of the world
00:02:29
they must have been so soaked when PT Manning was like Omaha Omaha oh P Manning football player doing
00:02:36
audibles omah Omaha give me some of your week before we get into the hard hitting
00:02:43
stories uh one I flew my wife and I flew to Sun Valley I'm not the happiest flyer but it
00:02:51
was it was nice it was one of those kind of smaller planes maybe a 40 seater I
00:02:57
don't know how Kevin nean would have done in this thing I mean I hit my head constantly just oh you hit your head and
00:03:04
Kevin I'm hitting my head I'm Land of the Giants in this thing and then if you
00:03:09
come into Sun Valley I'm kind of like okay it's it's kind of tight we're gonna make a turn I'm not really I look out
00:03:15
and it's like whoa whoa Whata what I mean it literally I couldn't exaggerate how close the mountains were have you
00:03:21
ever flown in there you could count I always think do you guys know what you're doing well I found out later and
00:03:28
I'm I'm not saying the airline or whatever the flight attent said well uh just they probably don't want me to tell
00:03:33
you but uh they have to have special training to be able to fly into Sun Valley so you get extra training so they
00:03:42
get some simulator so we got [ __ ] box Hills on both sides we'll try to snake through that's right Clen
00:03:50
pass dude terrifying it's like Aspen is a little scary so it's 6,000 feet you
00:03:55
feel a little funny you know unless you hydrate um so oh you get sick yeah
00:04:01
altitude yeah I do the gig I do three or four meet and greets mix and mingle is
00:04:07
different than a meat and greep grip it and rip it what is it called a grab and grip or something uh um a grip and grin
00:04:14
grip and grin it's fine it's part of the thing everyone incredibly nice everyone is all Ruddy faed and they look like
00:04:21
they're about Ruddy faed well they're just sort of they're they're in puffer jackets and Boots tucked in and they're
00:04:28
ready to ski it's like a nice area am I crazy it's gorgeous it's gorgeous and uh
00:04:36
we had the flight was until 5: we stayed there we weren't really thinking about
00:04:41
anything so we'll pick you up at 3 15 minutes to noon they so uh hello this
00:04:46
the front desk we need you out by noon we need you out in 15 minutes we got stuff out your room yeah get out I go
00:04:53
[ __ ] what do I get out now I mean stuff was we we were ready gathered up but
00:04:59
then our contact person bought us two hours so we could get out at two so we went
00:05:05
down to have lunch and I don't want to exaggerate how mellow this waiter was but he
00:05:12
literally he took our order and he's about seven feet away like uh so I'm
00:05:18
about to fly so I'm like could I have a beer and he goes uh ah huh oh he didn't even say yes
00:05:27
he just yes or no about I don't know gummies are just so mellow at alud gummies he's like uh what kind I
00:05:36
go I don't know Stella tuah uh I'll check so then 10 minutes later comes
00:05:43
back we don't have that uh well I'll take anything what do you got you got this he goes let me go
00:05:50
check so he's gone another 10 minutes he comes back then he's like uh I go do do
00:05:56
you have like Coors Light or something I think so so anyway it took 40 minutes
00:06:01
but he's a very nice guy but yeah he was he was mellow yeah I did uh I did a
00:06:09
flight where um two things that bother me now one is good you ever get the uh
00:06:17
window shade doesn't go down I need a ball pen Hammer I'm like it's like to
00:06:22
put it up plus is my weakling neck I'm like trying to you know military it
00:06:28
straight up and then and then for that you know cuz you got it
00:06:33
just goes up like a quarter inch every time like I can't spend this much effort and energy just to be blinded by the glare
00:06:42
and then the pilot does this [ __ ] I don't know if you noticed this you get on and you're just sitting there and
00:06:48
they go well we got everybody on we're about to push off just waiting for a little bit of paperwork from the flight
00:06:55
I'm like paperwork are we do you have a briefcase has physical paperwork he's
00:07:01
like we're just waiting for a Xerox copy of a couple things and then uh is anyone out there have a printer I like what are
00:07:08
we talking about does anyone email you anything yeah Jesus you're GNA be fuffeling with envelopes when you're
00:07:15
want to be getting on the joystick to get his vertical okay yeah you got to coate some documents first I mean I'll
00:07:22
tell you yeah who comes in like a mechanic like if you could just initial here press hard four copies
00:07:29
well they do sometimes they have to sign off on the plane and the guys the technicians are coming in and out they
00:07:35
got big orange jackets on they're coming out of the cockpit and they're shaking their heads and we had some technical
00:07:41
issues and it is just that some idiot in the back couldn't get the window up it's usually like a tiny thing like it's a
00:07:47
beverage card has a stray wheel but here's two things I didn't want to be a silly senior during the flight it's like
00:07:55
okay you press a button and then the thing comes over the tray and so the this particular plane i' never been on
00:08:01
you know you press the button and it folds out from inside then you have a tray so everything that easy no but the
00:08:08
everything I tried the trade didn't come out but I said I didn't want to ask for help okay I'll press down I'll press
00:08:14
here so flat to tenant 27 right out of Utah State all let me get that for you sir press the button Boom the other one
00:08:22
that bugged me that you remind me is he goes well we have it's a one one plane in one plane out so we're going to have
00:08:27
to wait a little bit um let something happens said fly to ten say take your seats there's there we can we can go now
00:08:34
you know so everything is a little intense there go just take a Time relax we got a window let's go everybody [ __ ]
00:08:40
out shut up exactly we're fourth in the lineup here but if everybody sees the so anyway oh
00:08:46
[ __ ] they moved us go go go go scramble go go go one guy goes we were GNA wait an hour
00:08:53
we get to go now like we were going to wait an hour I didn't know that so I did my Rodeo stick to make cuz the flight of
00:09:00
10 I could shake her hand that's how small the plane was so I did my rodeo star I'll go back here on an airplane so
00:09:06
I loosened the seat Bel as far as I can I grab the edge of it and I say to her Rodeo guy on an airplane and I go like
00:09:13
this you know and he zip it tighter though tight as if he's gone a horse you
00:09:18
know that's good I saw that yeah so she loved it I saw that live when we flew to
00:09:25
our gate I did it yeah I do I have plain shtick you got some shtick we have some sol sck uh I don't have any more great
00:09:31
stories but uh oh should we introduce Pete we'll talk about Tommy Boy anniversary real quick um oh yeah the
00:09:37
one last thing our car got robbed at LAX oh wait a second this is a headline well
00:09:44
we decid it [ __ ] it let's go old school we had a lot of time all right let's drive the let's drive the airport man so
00:09:52
God what a horrible idea LAX so first of all it's like is it [ __ ] east west
00:09:57
north or south so we're we're fun we're suddenly make going round and roundabout we're heading away from the
00:10:02
airport you stupid that's that's where the control tower is and it's getting
00:10:08
smaller let's go you and then we get we get up on top we parked the car and when
00:10:15
we come back to the car we know what the [ __ ] so it looks like ramshackle inside
00:10:20
so we open it up they did I had a mini iPad there they didn't take it what they did was they left a Big Red Canvas Bag
00:10:29
in the front seat left it left it I called a [ __ ]
00:10:35
clue we go we went down there and we saw the two uh you know whatever airport
00:10:41
police people there's no way they're going to bust anyone they were smoking weed down by the by the machine yeah man
00:10:48
I mean so anyway um we got rid of The Red Canvas Bag we got out of there but
00:10:54
that was strange and we know why it happened because it was my wife's car my car if you walk away it locks her car
00:11:01
you have to put your hand on the handle so I went back for something and long story short oh you didn't we made it
00:11:07
home safely and now we're here now well I like
00:11:12
these you know things that happen in real life that's a tough one I I would get so infuriated if that happened it
00:11:21
gets it gets a weird feeling like someone got into our car and was shuffling through it trying to get stuff
00:11:27
someone [ __ ] with you it feels like buling go like [ __ ] and of course no one does anything and then they if you go to the police they go in La of course
00:11:34
they're like you know what you should do is put a cage under your car so people can't get under and get your cataly a
00:11:39
converter you know what else you should do is you should put more locks more I'm like how about throw criminals in jail
00:11:46
they're like no that's where we draw the line we're we have a plan we're working
00:11:51
on it but right now we don't really uh that's not our thing yeah we in
00:11:57
jail the [ __ ] good guys being the victim you know it's like the good guys are the ones they go after now I don't
00:12:04
know because I just saw in England was one of our stories coming up is like you know what's bad when everyone's carrying
00:12:10
a machete and now you know they're carrying a lot of machetes now machetes
00:12:16
are illegal to carry around the streets when were when was that okay if I saw
00:12:21
someone with a machete I'd [ __ ] my pants and so many people are walking with machetes to rob people and hack people
00:12:28
and on the streets that they go okay it was fun for a while but iay on the
00:12:35
machetes so isn't that crazy machete the name of it and the strength of it it's a
00:12:41
[ __ ] SC SW you're walking around with a sword you can behead someone in a second I knew someone Francis coronin he
00:12:48
was in the Irish Army in the UN in Africa and when you would talk he'd go
00:12:54
into the town you talk to Town's people most of the time the dudes had a Ste
00:12:59
just just in their hand just sort of just walking around it make me um a
00:13:05
little uh give me anxiety yeah because what are you doing with a machete even a
00:13:10
knife is bad but a machete means real Biz like I'm up to really no good what I
00:13:17
would do is have a fully loaded bazooka and just be holding that and just chatting like you know I don't know
00:13:23
partly cloudy tomorrow I'm not sure what's up but who could do the sound effects of a bazooka going
00:13:31
off rack it in there and then no it would be it would be louder than
00:13:37
that slow motion just a Reverb from go the
00:13:44
kick it's that and then it comes [Music]
00:13:50
in but dude machete you don't have to be a pro you just start swing in that thing and you're going to cause some damage I
00:13:57
know so I'm glad that their okay when we come back from this Pete seagull interview we're going to
00:14:03
show the stories about machete just to show it's not made up okay so Pete seagull my director from Tommy Boy it's
00:14:09
the anniversary of Tommy Boy so we wanted to talk talk about it today yep and uh I hear about it maybe every day
00:14:16
in my life um yeah and let's let's go to Pete we chatted with him about all
00:14:23
things trivia Tommy Boy and we'll be right back with it we'll come back after
00:14:30
[Music]
00:14:37
this next segment is brought to you by O'Reilly Auto Parts the professional Parts
00:14:43
people Welcome to our special edition Welcome to our special edition of
00:14:48
Superfly with a spin on Tommy Boy The Anniversary which I don't like to say
00:14:55
what anniversary it is but it's a lot it's a while back but uh number and we have the direct that
00:15:02
didn't take long the director of the movie is actually talking with us so yes
00:15:07
this is Pete seagull who had a huge hand in making Tommy Boy hit and uh thanks for coming on thank you for having me
00:15:14
yes we are excited to have you um the funny thing about Tommy Boy is I keep
00:15:19
reading um different stories about it because you know it's the anniversary so
00:15:26
more things pop out you and I probably are in charge of some of these
00:15:31
stories but uh there's just so many I wanted you to tell Dana first and then we'll get into you just saying anything
00:15:37
you want about it was uh when you got hired the the hiring process because I remember it got a little sticky well I
00:15:45
had worked with Farley twice before Tommy Boy once on an HBO special I did
00:15:51
with Jud appow and then um and then on a a sitcom the Jackie Thomas Show which
00:15:57
was sort of a loose spin-off of Roseanne and uh so I just knew him from those
00:16:02
things and uh I just thought gosh you know if I ever got to direct the movie I
00:16:07
would love to do his first starring role and then about a year later I get this
00:16:13
script on my desk I had then gone on to make my first movie Naked Gun the last one oh and uh got this script called
00:16:20
Billy thei third of Midwestern and uh I didn't really know anything about the process I've learned
00:16:26
a lot over the years since then how that got to me and uh I I said uh to Lauren
00:16:33
uh I said I've got a lot of a lot of notes because I I I love these guys but
00:16:38
the story is kind of wonky and uh he said we just you know go in and tell the
00:16:44
Turners what you think and I said do I hold back he goes no no just go in
00:16:50
everything pretty good writers the Turners so I went in and just you know
00:16:56
guns of Blazing notes notes notes and they looked at me blank expressions and
00:17:02
it was bye-bye and I left and that was it and then I thought okay well I guess
00:17:08
I blew that one um weeks went by weeks and weeks and I get this uh and I I
00:17:14
think I checked with my agent hey have they hired anybody yet oh they're still looking I'm like okay yeah maybe some
00:17:20
other people are feeling the same way so I uh I get a call then from Sher she said I want you to come back in and tell
00:17:26
me everything that you told Terry and Bonnie I want to hear it myself the head
00:17:31
of paramont sorry wow Sher laning so I thought uh oh I feel like on the
00:17:37
causeway you know I'm all alone so I went in I hit that hallway that long
00:17:44
hallway to her office and the door opened like she knew I was coming and just arms out honey and I uh she you
00:17:53
know the the hookline and sinker they were in well they were all so desperate they' you know blown the Hiatus they
00:18:01
desperately needed someone to come on right and so uh so that's how I got it that was part one this is a long story
00:18:07
so I'll just stop I like I like when it gets a little ugly the time frame is the Hiatus because of is the summer Hiatus
00:18:14
messing up yeah so there's a Time problem we have a window yeah and we blew that window and what that means is
00:18:21
now Dave and Chris are going to be having to fly back and forth doing Saturday Night Live and shooting a movie
00:18:27
in Toronto at the same time oh right this a bad they could do it you know and it made the movie more expensive too
00:18:33
because it you know what could have taken you know 30 days was now going to take 45 days because we only shot three
00:18:40
days a week with you guys and did you stay in Toronto and just chill and maybe try to do pickup shots or anything you
00:18:46
could without us yeah I remember one time you know with Farley especially no
00:18:51
one could double him you know so all his own stunts because he was a better athlete than any of the stunt
00:18:57
guys his size but one day I had to shoot a shot of uh Tommy Callahan walking away
00:19:05
from the funeral down this you know row of beautiful Fall Foliage and I used his
00:19:10
double Chris hated it because he said that's not how I walk no more of that
00:19:15
you know I'm got to do every single shot I'm like okay well then we're just here and
00:19:21
wait who was this guy Danny what is it remember his stunt man I think he used him a lot I don't remember he no mine
00:19:27
was Danny his was probably a great Stunt Man by the way yeah great stuntman the walking is a is a is a good inside
00:19:34
baseball thing to talk about because actors get very particular about that yeah well first time I went to I think
00:19:41
Chris was new to the show went to an SN party we're out on the sidewalk hey lady whatever he does and then he just jumps
00:19:47
up in the air and just flies on his back on the cement you know so this guy was a
00:19:53
stunt I mean who's gonna show off for you he could really throw his body around obviously and he probably got
00:19:59
hurt quite a bit well Dave you tell him about the 2x4 the 2x4 at the dinosaur place um
00:20:09
prehistoric Forest yeah well you know I don't really remember this except remembering on the day of they
00:20:17
take it they score it so they take a 2x4 part of it's It's supposed to break easy
00:20:22
and it's made of balsa wood maybe yeah with like a little rubber padding on one Edge yeah yeah yeah
00:20:29
you know it is Dana so but I'm supposed to hit him in the face we start a fight which is a funny scene we have this huge
00:20:34
fight uh but he sticks his head out to get hit and of course it's not an exact
00:20:39
science but I swing and I think I don't know if it
00:20:45
didn't break or did break but Pete you might know more but I definitely hurt him a little bit on those because even
00:20:53
if you get hit by an egg carton empty it still hurts if someone swing it at you trying not to hurt the guy guy but it's
00:20:59
almost impossible they didn't have it perfected uh you finished that one no it uh I think you hit him with the hard
00:21:05
part of the two by and yes it broke and he went down and you know uh yeah that
00:21:13
that must have stung he he was yeah well he he he was very good at taking hits
00:21:21
and also I no one else knows how hard he's getting hit you know you can't tell and that was obviously a problem and um
00:21:28
but he just gets up so uh probably stage five concussion should have been choppered out of there but when he he
00:21:35
doesn't want to show any weakness and he wants to show he's a pro and he wants to always get hit and fall down and and
00:21:42
show that look this doesn't bother me and that's a pro but it's also tough CU
00:21:48
these days there's probably more uh scrutiny on it but you know we're running sort of rag teag Mission out
00:21:54
there and we didn't really know I don't think Pete knew we we just it just you go back and I think remember one time
00:22:00
when the coat didn't rip when he was doing fat kind little coat and he's going he's screaming because I saw this
00:22:05
on some outakes lately yeah they made it too tight and he's trying to rip it just it's really hard to rip a regular coat
00:22:12
without being scored and cut in the back so he's screaming and he gets mad because he's like putting everything
00:22:18
into it every take that's the hard part no rips could I I I just have a question
00:22:23
going back a little bit because I I want you as a director and just in the broad Strokes without laying claim but just
00:22:30
what was the besides whatever the story was the first draft because you got you know the first draft people just kind of
00:22:37
throw it out there what was your besides the specific notes what was missing and
00:22:42
what did you capture because obviously the movie is now a classic comedy I mean
00:22:47
it's it's the movie and so can you remember like the core things you were trying to figure out with that script
00:22:54
yes um originally I think uh Lauren had pitched the show obviously this was a a
00:23:00
vehicle for Dave and Chris but the story had a lot of uh the Rob low character in
00:23:06
it and it was a he was a lot more integral in that story and as a matter of fact it was more about them being
00:23:12
Step Brothers um and I thought I don't think that's the story I think the story
00:23:18
is about the two guys who do not get along at Callahan who have to work
00:23:23
together and save the factory and and save the town and I also thought that there was you know another story between
00:23:31
a father and son and I knew that that was very important to Chris because he had a very close relationship with his
00:23:36
dad and so those two things unraveled you know what we had in the first draft
00:23:42
from the Turners and then who are great writers by the way so great writers they're great writers I just had a
00:23:48
different take and then Lauren said okay I'm gonna send you out you know some some help and he sent out uh Jim Downey
00:23:56
and Fred Wolf and Downey came out uh he had apparently just fallen in some
00:24:01
Poison Ivy and he perfect fallen into a vat of poison his face was caked with
00:24:08
calamine lotion but like dried up kind of feeling and he came out good luck for
00:24:15
like a week we had lunches and I heard stories and then uh yeah after a week I
00:24:21
was starting to panic because this was the week that the script was going to be saved you mean you're just talking but
00:24:26
nothing's being WR he writes he talks about everything else in the back of his giant brain things are happening yeah
00:24:33
yeah yeah and then finally on Friday he they were going to catch a plane to go back to New York I said so what about
00:24:40
this and I held up the script he goes oh oh that's I I can't help you with that I I
00:24:47
can't he was there for a week [ __ ] dowy I love then I remembered walking
00:24:53
you know in the parking lot at Paramount and I told Fred I said dude you guys were my Lifesaver that was a swing and a
00:24:59
miss uh I'm out and so I quit so you quit oh listen to this yeah and this is
00:25:07
Fred Wolf now y I was telling Fred because you know he's my pal I knew him from before this hey a really good
00:25:12
that's really funny no you seriously tell you something Pete just I'm gonna talk about Dana minute I want to talk to no
00:25:18
seriously love go ahead so you quit quit on a Friday and on a Sunday you want it
00:25:25
ugly Dave yeah I'll give you ugly so I heard
00:25:30
I get phone rings and my wife answers it and then she covers it and says it's
00:25:36
Sherry Jerry Lancing and uh apparently this wasn't the first time that she used
00:25:42
this uh method but she said I have a team of attorneys speeding to the St to
00:25:48
the studio right now to strategize how to sue you for tens of millions of
00:25:53
dollars and to take your home from you and I said my
00:26:00
home if you've been to the home it's on Wheels you can just pull it I said
00:26:05
Checkmate fine I'll go but this is going to be a disaster and she said honey I
00:26:11
know you're gonna make it great and I have to say you know she you know all these years later uh she was uh so
00:26:19
responsible for helping us keep this thing together and here we are talking
00:26:25
about it 30 years later I credit her it it seemed like it was natural thing because of the history of like Laurel
00:26:31
and Hardy and the you know sort of Chris which we can talk about more about being
00:26:36
sort of quintessential as far as a big comedian and throwing his body around and then David and them being at that
00:26:43
very close friends the chemistry you know it's the it's the comedy team it's it's Wayne and G it's Aban Costello so I
00:26:50
think focusing on that make obviously worked beautifully and you had roblo and you had the other stuff but yeah Brian
00:26:57
Den he got that in he's so solid Bo Derek great in the movie but you know
00:27:03
the interesting thing is uh Chris was obviously hilarious on his own but you
00:27:10
know Dave you were the engine you know to that machine of the two of you you
00:27:15
had to be you know you would pitch and he would hit and he would knock it out of the park but those balls wouldn't be
00:27:21
flying anywhere if it wasn't for you getting under his skin you know and and
00:27:26
getting that out of him you know yeah I appreciate that I mean you know those kind of movies it is obviously could not
00:27:33
be done without Chris I think there's people that could have played my part but it was I locked into it and uh it
00:27:39
was really fun to figure it out as we went and all of us up there and uh just taking a movie about break pads you know
00:27:47
and trying to make it funny because that's the original that's the movie two losers with a dream or it's just always
00:27:53
a likable Motif for a comedy film they're on their Adventure they're trying to make it you know and uh and
00:28:00
but the like huge Dana when uh you know we're doing it out of sequence obviously
00:28:05
we're flying back and forth I'm getting skinnier he's getting fatter uh and we
00:28:11
both feel sick and tired on the whole time and so when it's all over we know
00:28:18
that scenes are funny but we don't know how the movie is going to be you know that's the problem with shooting out of
00:28:23
sequence which if people know that's pretty much every single movie you could shoot the the the finale the first day
00:28:30
you don't really even know what your characters are like or you're not really jelled into it but that's the hard part so it's up to Pete to put it together
00:28:37
and so Pete and uh also Bill Kerr the editor but Pete's putting together these
00:28:43
driving shots adds some music just makes it all make sense and the way he shot it we can't tell because I don't know if we
00:28:50
had playback back then we did but uh play yeah maybe we weren't the ones to
00:28:55
watch play you know what I mean it was sort of up to Pete but the point is he made it all flow all added so much more
00:29:03
so when you see it yes it it's funny performances but everybody cannot
00:29:08
there's so many people that cannot drop the ball the editor can't Pete can't we can't and if you get it all right you
00:29:14
know you've been in a couple of those that when it worked so hard to get it right director's medium and Landing the
00:29:20
POS on the boat at the end um that
00:29:25
that's unique where it it doesn't come off Force it really comes off like whoa that hits you you
00:29:32
know we all know the feeling of running late and then inevitably running into car problems it happens to all of us
00:29:39
yeah but thank for the O'Reilly Auto Parts as you know oh oh oh oh Riley Auto
00:29:47
Parts you're welcome uh these guys have all the parts they have everything you need for do it-yourself stuff like let's
00:29:52
say I'm driving raining windshield wipers giving up and then they're on
00:29:58
intermittent which I don't know I think they're off and then it's barely wet barely it
00:30:05
goes that's when you're driving a half hour later you're like are these still on so I had mine
00:30:12
break but they weren't they were just messing things up they weren't cleaning it so I had to go in get some more they
00:30:18
tell you how to slide them on it's not that hard Folks at O'Reilly they know what they're doing got thousands of
00:30:23
parts in stock if you're in a jam stranded in a parking lot with bad window wipers like me or a dead battery
00:30:30
they'll test it for free all right and if it's toast you know they go replace it windshield
00:30:37
wipers brake lights random car noises that make you nous
00:30:42
yep da' got you covered even if you have zero clue what you're doing the team at
00:30:47
O'Reilly won't judge they don't judge you they just go are you a novice and I I don't know what that means so I go
00:30:53
yeah I think so so whether you're car offish in AO or an auto novice O'Reilly Auto Parts is a place to go find what
00:30:59
you need in store or at O'Reilly auto.com before your car decides to quit on you
00:31:08
again well we had uh when we started filming only 66 Pages because oh yeah I
00:31:16
think I remember started over that's little little little light in the loafers that's just so we can start we
00:31:23
have a re we have to have a fake reason to go exactly shoot something while they're writing or whatever and so the
00:31:28
fact that you guys were at SNL gave uh Fred and me extra time to work on the
00:31:34
script and so as we were going it was so exhausting because of this pressure of
00:31:40
you know laying the train tracks out in front of the locomotive every day that we did not know how the story was going
00:31:46
to end I had no idea and then Fred came up with the a miracle scene the scene
00:31:53
where uh the guys are walking with Dan akroy in the factory and the test dummies and that and uh that came in and
00:32:00
suddenly I thought oh okay I see how the story can end but how can we wrap this
00:32:06
up emotionally and I always had this idea of uh Tommy talking to the spirit
00:32:13
of his father up in this water tower that we built that we never actually used in the movie and it was kind of
00:32:19
corny and it didn't work you know what I was thinking and so we're kind of stuck on like we called in this writer named
00:32:26
Len Blum who had written Stripes stripes and uh I said dude I don't know how to
00:32:31
end this movie emotionally and he said let me take a look at the footage and he saw the the sailboat scene earlier after
00:32:38
the funeral and he said well why don't you just revisit that and that's where
00:32:43
he can be talking to the spirit of his father and the answer will be the wind you know tear jerker no it landed that
00:32:50
was that was it yeah well I just uh this inside baseball people would like it
00:32:55
like when you first assembled and you do a test screening and you get cards back
00:33:00
how what was the first uh test screening like what was the range of the scores um I think the highest score we
00:33:08
got was an 82 so we started in the 70s but one thing um you know because I just
00:33:14
come from Naked Gun and the zooker brothers learned from the Marx Brothers who rehearsed all of their movies in
00:33:22
dinner theaters so that by the time they got to the set their material was tight and they knew what worked in front of
00:33:27
crowd and what didn't that saved them what the zookers did is they started recording the audiences soundwise so
00:33:34
that if you say well that got a big laugh and then you know David if you were there said n it got kind of a
00:33:40
medium well let's go to the tape it was imper but then what we did i' had just been given you know a Sony handicam for
00:33:47
Christmas and it had that night vision and so I said hey I got an idea why don't we hide this under the screen and
00:33:54
so we can see the crowd and that'll help us shap the movie that was the first time night vision was ever used now
00:34:03
standard oh okay so you see the crowd you see the laughs and then you're going to do a re-edit based on if they don't
00:34:09
laugh you cut it out you know and then if you see them shifting in their seats they're bored look at what are we doing
00:34:16
that's going slowly here you know that what was David Spade's biggest laugh of
00:34:21
the [Laughter] movie you know Pete I have to say that
00:34:26
if if I can remember back those old screenings I think maybe the one that tested the
00:34:33
highest was the deer smashing the car and us watching maybe but over time it
00:34:38
is not the number one thing that is brought up no and what
00:34:44
is I mean there's a you know what happens over time when people see it 5 10 20 times it's throwaway jokes yeah
00:34:52
that they remember I mean from Stripes from all these old movies you picture it's a Cinderella story and CAD shck and
00:34:58
just throw away Lin but I think there was um maybe fat coat obviously people
00:35:04
still are aware of um one of my favorites was yeah caught from you guys
00:35:10
and and Fred and I were just like desperate to write down anything that you guys did funny in your interaction
00:35:16
uh Farley comes out of a wardrobe test in his suit the iconic Brown tweet and
00:35:22
he said David does this suit make me look fat and you fire back no your face does I'm like that's going in yeah
00:35:28
that's and that's how we just we heard about this thing he would do at SNL fat guy in a little coat okay we put that in
00:35:35
but he he never sung it you know um yeah that was a good one one thing that
00:35:40
happened uh in the boredom of making a movie because you and Chris were used to
00:35:46
live TV one take three cameras done suddenly we're doing multiple take
00:35:52
multiple angles and it would get boring but in that borom so I shoot fat guy
00:35:57
little coat I shoot Chris's side done I turn around because we only had one
00:36:02
camera we were low budget turn around I'm getting Dave and I thought we were done that night Bill cerr our editor
00:36:09
calls me and he saids oh my God you got to go back and re-shoot this I'm like what are you talking about you didn't
00:36:14
hear Farley off camera he started singing it and getting all goofy like did he goes yeah look at the dailies so
00:36:22
I looked at him and sure enough we turned around the next day and reshot it because Chris was talking and singing
00:36:27
while David he was bored so he just starts [ __ ] around s was messed up and he was just bored and didn't know
00:36:32
how movies were made like his sound I think he was just doing it not even to get just like bored and then it sounded
00:36:39
actually funnier uh I remember I saw an outtake recently that I don't remember of course where we're in bed at the
00:36:46
hotel and and he talks about zalinsky and I go and uh and then Chris starts
00:36:52
hysterically laughing and I try to hold the take because maybe you you use that one
00:36:58
but when people laugh it's funny but sometimes you can't use it but if you wait a haris longer you can cut away
00:37:04
after yeah but he laughs and he goes what a [ __ ] dick because I don't know
00:37:10
I guess it was the same thing just giving it a different reading because of
00:37:15
just we've done it too many times you know that kind of thing yeah sometimes things happen that is the the thing about film is you're supposed to not the
00:37:22
crew's not supposed to laugh and no one's supposed to laugh and so there's this dinner table t Ion at Thanksgiving
00:37:29
where you're not so where someone's saying the Lord's Prayer and so you're laughing so there's that tension there
00:37:34
that does create kind of fun moments I I remember seeing one of the another outtake I I'd forgotten about was we
00:37:42
shot most of what was Callahan in some abandoned uh post office and it had
00:37:49
holes in the roof and birds would get in and birds would start chirping like
00:37:55
crazy having a fight in the middle of and Chris could not hold it together cuz he just up at the
00:38:03
birds did you know uh was there I remember there was some Scuttle butt
00:38:08
about Bood D cutting her hair is that not true I don't remember that I just
00:38:14
because she had long hair from obviously everyone knows from the movie 10 right and she was doing a different movie and
00:38:21
she came right to the set and she had short hair and I don't think anyone knew and we didn't know if I don't know if it
00:38:26
was an issue or not I think every just surprised I don't yeah it kind of rings a bell and I just heard an interview uh
00:38:32
she was doing um just a couple days ago where she said she was not even shooting
00:38:38
another movie she was doing another business in Asia and she came and was uh
00:38:45
got a phone call and was on the set the next day coming out of the pool in a bikini oh yeah yeah I think I did hear
00:38:51
that and then she said she said well I must have been replacing someone and they were and I said I don't think we
00:38:57
had any anybody I don't remember just we were just so disorganized disorganized yeah we were just hiring someone the the
00:39:04
next day but so the first time I met her she uh comes out and it's a you know
00:39:10
they have to show the the Wardrobe to the director and she comes out in a robe and she goes what do yes they do so she
00:39:16
opens up her robe and I'm first thing I'm looking at is Derek from 10 showing
00:39:21
me this bikini I just stared straight at her eyes and said fine that's that's fine
00:39:28
fine could not be more lovely she was such a sweetheart and such a great
00:39:33
another addition you don't really talk about a lot but she was so good to have in there because people loved her you I
00:39:38
think you said she was the biggest star in the movie right uh well you know she
00:39:44
just come off of 10 yeah yeah and we had come off of nothing uh also was there
00:39:51
remember these old outakes that I think Skippy had that they are somewhere maybe
00:39:57
have now by the way Pete gifted me with Skippy um we uh he that when when he
00:40:04
comes to the door during housekeeping and I think you said do one with andies on one with maybe
00:40:11
a a robe and then one with nothing yes right just to have it and then I did
00:40:17
tell him and whatever you do for the love of God do not turn around well of
00:40:23
course that's all Chris needed to hear so he turned around and started flailing
00:40:29
around his wiener just dancing straight into the camera and I just said this
00:40:36
film will be burned we will not he said hi Sherry I think mentioned
00:40:43
that hi Sherry um yeah I don't think those ever got out any fun outtakes that
00:40:49
I see on Instagram do you feel uh I tell you I felt spoiled coming from SN with
00:40:57
Dana and these guys just on a writing level and Performing level and then I go to Tommy Boy and then I've done you know
00:41:06
some things in life I really love and some things that are a little tougher you know but don't you feel spoiled when
00:41:12
you get on a set and it's not like that and you're like oh my God this is GNA be
00:41:18
tough yeah I mean you know people say because that movie is is uh so well
00:41:23
remembered you must have had a blast making it it was fun making it wasn't that fun movies aren't fun to make
00:41:30
generally if you tell me it's a hit if you I'll give you a hint this will be a big tip for everybody if you tell me
00:41:35
it's a huge hit ahead of time it will help a lot yeah but the fact that you don't know and the bad ones are just as
00:41:41
hard to make as the good ones yeah that's the unfair part yes you know you
00:41:46
worked all this you did all this work and it and it makes your career worse yeah go that should that doesn't make
00:41:52
sense no and sometimes when things are going too well I start to not trust it
00:41:58
and then I get into a weird mood that oh everyone's so nice everything's so great everything's so funny this movie is
00:42:04
gonna tank yeah you never know well I don't know if people understand this like what was your longest day because
00:42:10
on lowbudget Films sometimes you got to go and gold oh I know that one all right I mean because people that's why I get
00:42:16
you don't even know English it's 24 hours how long I think I just saw I just saw Pete on the set of bus boys and I I
00:42:23
did I ask you this that the factory I think we did almost 24 hours is that
00:42:30
possible close uh it was definitely because we went day to night and then we shot overnight until like 6 in the
00:42:36
morning in the High Teens did you say yeah it had to be W's world had a couple of those where you're like I think we
00:42:43
only had it for and we flew in on a weird thing like us you know after the SNL Afterparty and then we start Sunday
00:42:50
morning and then we only have it for Sunday but we go late but they open Monday morning so I think it was one of
00:42:56
those where we all remember things differently but I just remember that was I think we had a lot of cast in it we
00:43:01
had a couple stunts and all that stuff just slows everything down that was a long one but I think the most painful
00:43:08
one was cow tipping because was what cow tipping because it was a a night shoot
00:43:15
oh I in the cold the great North and I don't know my God it must have been zero
00:43:21
degrees and Chris had to you know dive in the mud under a cow and you yeah and
00:43:28
the sun was coming up you know uh if you look hard you'll see right over his when
00:43:34
he comes up with the mud mask that you see the sun starting to rise that we were just running out of time yeah you
00:43:41
remember the coldest day I'll tell you this Dana Dana is glazing over but here's the coldest day not at all I'm
00:43:47
just cold right now this is a riveting uh reveal um I would say Pete cuz it
00:43:53
started getting cold and then it got cold fast Spade from Arizona was not ready and not loving it uh I would say
00:44:00
probably in my estimation we're standing by a billboard yelling about the bees for the cops and
00:44:07
then we're going oh my God Alinsky and we're I don't think I think we looped some of it because I couldn't formulate
00:44:14
the words cuz my jaw was frozen what are we what are we looking at I I'll see your uh cold and raise it on movie I did
00:44:21
you'll see where're we only have light clothes on you in Canada or Toronto Toronto okay yeah my movie took place in
00:44:28
Ontario something like we were minus 30 Celsius and me Nicholas Cage and Cel oh
00:44:35
Paradise yeah trapped in Paradise with John and we just W fell we just fell down in the snow it was all night
00:44:41
shoots a lot of frost bite we had we were wrapped up like the mummy and then they take it off and they uh was uh go
00:44:49
fans for the for the snow you know so everything was going to be overdub but yeah so you guys were definitely below
00:44:55
zero probably at night I think we're on we were close to that because I remember
00:45:00
same we can't keep shooting like and night shoots on top of that like every movie I do now we're like let's do
00:45:06
splits or let's do some other way yeah now Knights are the worst [ __ ] H okay
00:45:13
well go one more day and Steve our guy P how to put in context
00:45:19
this movie you know one thing I was going to say and this will be a compliment alert for my partner uh in
00:45:25
crime in comedy uh is David can really he can do the cut you know he can like
00:45:31
do uh kind of little but it's always likable it never comes with teeth and so all his little put Downs of Chris just
00:45:39
always never went to the other level so that's the chemistry the two of them and then with Chris Farley just thinking
00:45:46
when you watch his you know guy down by the river and this movie and stuff I
00:45:51
just don't think we've seen another Chris Farley there must be at one point we will
00:45:58
um he's just a a singularity in comedy uh in the last 30 years and there's been brilliant people and Brilliant movies
00:46:05
but he something unique about him that is sort of Irreplaceable right now I mean right
00:46:12
absolutely at the uh at the 50th SNL 50th I bumped into Paul Walter Hower
00:46:18
who's going to be playing Chris oh Chris Farley story and I said look if you grab
00:46:24
a lunch you know I'll tell you stories so that's GNA be definitely should I
00:46:31
talked to him at one of my shows he came and we talked about it he's got a got an uphill battle but I said you know good
00:46:37
luck to you the guy's a good actor so Chris had that throaty when I'm just you
00:46:42
know that thing that that's really hard to duplicate he he'd put so much into
00:46:48
that you know that that that would be what why would try to advise that actor to try to get that tone and get that
00:46:55
energy I said say I says I says I says I go you're making that a full
00:47:01
update B he goes oh yeah you know he goes I says the guy I says the guy I says I says right to him
00:47:08
I says I says I says and that's his whole bit I go a [ __ ] full update he's like yep and it's gonna kill it
00:47:16
did ah [ __ ] so funny well Pete thank you bud uh thank you I will say to Dana's
00:47:22
Point quickly when I'm on the bench I don't know if it's your idea or whoever's idea I I'm me I'm kind of borderline mean to
00:47:29
Chris the whole movie but when I'm on the bench and I I say he's my only friend that's erases it that's dude I I
00:47:36
just watched there was a screening last night and exactly when that scene came up that was really nicely done the way
00:47:43
you did it it was very genuine was very real and it kind of made the whole uh
00:47:48
Arc of your relationship with Tommy Callahan work that scene yeah mes it helped it make sense
00:47:56
put down the put down the put down the put down yeah cuz they just feel sorry for me it's like a song and then he's my only friend it's just film making well
00:48:04
congratulations on being the director of one of our alltime classic comedies and and everything else you've done naked

00:48:35
okay so that was Pete seagull uh great talking to him um I do want to jump on
00:48:41
that we talked afterwards about a musical for fat ID coat and the
00:48:48
Tommy Boy musical yeah the Tommy Boy musical I was serious and then on Broadway and then we could do um Richard
00:48:55
my character who never had a friend and so I get to do a your idea was a song you single little song it'd be so funny
00:49:03
I never had a friend I walk away from Tommy on the bench and Go sing yeah and
00:49:09
maybe I thought this is interesting casting I get played by Ariana
00:49:15
Grande and don't do anything to her just the way she just looks like me actually she could pull her hair back she looks
00:49:21
like her little sister just put little bangs on yeah I'll tell I'll tell you one thing doing that asnl in the fall
00:49:28
when she was host that gal is multi-talented I mean she yeah she could
00:49:34
do anything literally she could probably work up an impression of you if she had to she's incredible I have to say I
00:49:41
thought I was calling this early the last time she hosted that she uh uh I wanted to get word to her so funny and
00:49:48
she's really good she did Jennifer Lawrence it was funny yeah then she goes in the thing where she sings all these different songs in the radio station
00:49:54
different voices and she's so t ented and she's such a little twig and she just rips it out with a great voice and
00:50:01
she's cute funny I mean I don't know how she does it that's a tough that show is
00:50:07
tough and I'm so tough and uh it makes me crumble but she um I did Jennifer
00:50:15
kolich with her and chlo right and that that was fun she had she had a blast I
00:50:20
mean I think that people don't do sketch comedy all the time when it's working it's it's really fun you know
00:50:28
right I almost want to see Wicked literally just for her because I just want to see I know nothing about Wicked but she's good and she sings wellis of
00:50:36
Oz basically let's not did you know that Oz never did give nothing to the Tin
00:50:41
[Laughter] Man already have you I know what is
00:50:48
already I'm just saying for people listening I'm going to give you three seconds America that's that's the band
00:50:55
America yeah and that song I never understood that as a kid
00:51:00
have you ever realized some words as a kid you don't understand because you don't know what it means like they say like a phrase or
00:51:07
something you've never heard and now you get older you go oh now I get what that meant because you remember the movie you
00:51:13
you had nothing I didn't know he was saying Oz that was such a clever little thing to say yeah instead of The Wizard of Oz Oz never did give nothing to the
00:51:20
Tin Man I like the the Tin Man didn't have a heart right yeah yeah but they said but he didn't already have that he
00:51:27
already had it the whole them whole theme of the movie uh I didn't get it the whole movie anyway so you were two
00:51:33

00:53:56
godamn okay enough of that one what's the next one give us anything we will do anything M I read an article I don't
00:54:03
have a picture of but I thought it was interesting lie the divorce rate of people in their 40s and 50s is
00:54:10
quadrupled oh okay hold on oh okay well this is we'll go back to divorce rate
00:54:16
but uh Trump officials Tech texted attack plans to a group chat oh everyone's heard of this story from uh
00:54:24
secure app they don't want to say signal but I'm on signal for a Fantasy Football chat uh but it's supposed to be airtight
00:54:32
and uh this is a mess this is something when you hear it you kind of go whoaaa
00:54:40
what like how in the fak yeah does that happen and can you
00:54:47
imagine the person that had to deliver the news to Trump you know what are you saying I
00:54:54
don't understand what are you saying what are you saying what are you say say it again they [ __ ] up they [ __ ] up
00:54:59
good they're [ __ ] morons I'm not going to fire them but that's a [ __ ] move you'd never [ __ ] make I mean you
00:55:06
know right I will say if somebody screws up Republican or Democrat the first
00:55:12
thing they say is you should quit and they always go guys why are we even doing this you think I'm ever GNA quit
00:55:17
and there's no one on either side that's ever just gonna quit they have to be literally pushed out with a bulldozer so
00:55:23
so they don't do it but that thing's funny because I thought it'd be funny for you if they said that group chat was
00:55:30
left over that Biden set it up and it would be funny if Biden was still on it and he was getting he thought it was the
00:55:36
lunch orders for the White House every day and he's like Hama oh do they have fish fish kebabs and they're like I'm
00:55:43
sorry sir what you who is this I like some Hamas with my egg salad sandwich
00:55:48
come on folks yeah I'm not here everybody get your orders in we're got to do this thing yeah I'll have a bom
00:55:54
Burger bomb burer he doesn't understand it he's reading it all and then he accidentally facetimes
00:56:00
everyone they're like don't answer it's F he thinks it's all his face is like
00:56:07
this I'll have a I'll have a snack attack excuse me a sneak attack the
00:56:13
attacks under White NOW sandwich I kind of like Snack Attack sneak attack sneak
00:56:18
attack and sandwich and this the sandwich is the bomb yeah come on [ __ ]
00:56:25
come on everyone look at my new Emoji I found guess what we got the
00:56:30
beef where's the beef we got the beef Barbe we got the
00:56:36
meat they change that that's a little like Wendy's where's the beef I hate yeah they copy each other [ __ ] [ __ ]
00:56:42
copy uh who did what what are you doing okay okay oh there's oh this is a story
00:56:48
that came out last week right when Superfly I didn't have enough data now I have even less there's a vast
00:56:54
underground city below Giza Pyramids which um yes not to be
00:57:00
confused with I'm a gizer uh Egypt's pyramids scientists wild Theory CLA
00:57:07
experts debunk it I will say it's a riveting story if it's close to true
00:57:14
that they have these you can't see but in those infrared heat seeking uh that photo above yeah it says they're too
00:57:22
specific now if you can't see it you're just going by there's a mass down there
00:57:27
there's something down there and it goes down about three football fields that's interesting enough but they're like oh
00:57:33
and it had sparklers on it and a Christmas tree light and like it's underground you can't know all that
00:57:39
right well look this is a provable thing right now people said it's real someone it's the buunk so somebody go in there
00:57:47
and uh dig them up let's dig them up send send Biden in there I go on there and check check and see if it's a puma
00:57:53
peraco the pheral look par tctl what was it tbacu I can't
00:58:01
remember the famous Tin Tin Cup King to and common toot and common that guy
00:58:06
remember in you know fourth grade you'd study the Egyptian yeah we got a lot in common by the way they still don't know
00:58:11
how the pyramids got built so [ __ ] dude it's so it's so dialed in there's copper and there there's things there that make
00:58:17
them like electrical rods for some UFO [ __ ] I want a secret alien City to be
00:58:25
there I honestly do I really want a secret alien city under the pyramids scared so we can kind of relax and go
00:58:31
we're not alone like does it does it really matter that we're not alone but we may not be Al I'm a little I my
00:58:38
conclusion is that we aren't alone and I'm a little relaxed about it because they could kill us so fast that at least
00:58:45
they're not doing it mhm but I had heard Roswell was lightning knocked them out
00:58:50
of the sky and then we and then we they were like they don't feel so hot you know cuz they crack
00:58:57
they're like everyone just be cool nothing to see here and there's like oh there's a lot to see here dude I know
00:59:02
that's them talking to the aliens they're like there's a lot of shenanigans with the JFK report coming
00:59:08
out a lot of let's keep that quiet don't let anyone know that so you don't you
00:59:14
don't have to be a um you know a conspiracy theorist to kind of ask questions like okay I think if any of
00:59:21
that [ __ ] happened even 911 right now people would shoot so many holes through that so fast like back then it was a
00:59:28
world all through life this is what's in school this is what you're taught but
00:59:34
when people ask a few questions and and it trips them up you go wait it shouldn't be that hard like right what's
00:59:40
this what's this so it is fun to follow those stories some are true some aren't but oh yeah Stephen A
00:59:48
Smith there is no doubt that LeBron James is the second greatest basketball
00:59:53
player of all time none no doubt never in question well Stephen A Smith would take
01:00:00
a swing at LeBron this is where he go it goes to Haywire I don't think he should bring this up because when I saw him
01:00:06
talking he's like obviously LeBron could pound me fine but LeBron's like a physical
01:00:12
specimen doctors and trainers in the world best sense of the word so yeah and
01:00:17
On's a sports reporter so it's like let's take that out of the equation of who could win a a but anytime you get in
01:00:25
a beef with someone there's always in the back of your mind what if we get in fight because it gets temp flare if if
01:00:33
LeBron put his weight behind it at his size he could really hurt somebody uh oh
01:00:40
yeah Stephen A Smith's kind of Slender I mean he's pretty tall but he's not
01:00:46
LeBron and he knows but it's just gotten into playground stuff LeBron did post an image of him 10 years ago he said he had
01:00:52
dislocated shoulders of him boxing and Stephen A Smith said it was uh it was a
01:00:58
bad look and then he came back today with a 15minute uh diet tribe di tribe yeah
01:01:04
defending the whole thing he wasn't making fun of bronny I mean it just sort of who was it Albert Brooks that said
01:01:11
life is is like high school with money you know guys yeah I mean it's also like
01:01:18
there's people I don't like out there in Showbiz and it's like high school you're not going to get along with everyone and
01:01:23
so it's okay to uh did you hear that funny what did what other say when I plug in now when I plug in my phone can
01:01:31
you hear what it
01:01:37
says there be po Boop okay [ __ ] it took a hair too long
01:01:44
that [ __ ] okay I'm gonna give everyone one more shot at it and Heather you cannot talk shake the phone up look
01:01:51
there's Harper what is that about okay ready oh everybody quiet on the set
01:02:00
in that's a good
01:02:05
one every time you plug it in and people aren't ready for it they go what is it that's something you you say that's one
01:02:12
of your that's something I say and Heather told me that you can I think her says hey Heather so if you plug it in it
01:02:18
can say something very short and I was like and I go oh no it sounds too robotic so I go oh maybe it should say
01:02:24
something robotic
01:02:30
okay so Stephen A Smith started about LeBron and bronny well Stephen A Smith I
01:02:36
don't know the I didn't listen to everything just said confrontation on the court about that and he was just
01:02:41
saying that he did not believe that bronny James who by the way dropped 39
01:02:47
this week in the G League was ready for the NBA so that
01:02:52
was you know so yeah so braon saw him at a game on the court and said hey to the
01:02:59
effect of don't [ __ ] on my son and so I get the emotionality of it and I get
01:03:05
that side I think this leads and we'll talk to our friend Ted Sandos one night only Stephen A Smith and LeBron James
01:03:13
sit down and talk it out then LeBron James will put on a 100 pound weighted
01:03:18
suit and they will go three rounds with David Spade as the referee I'm the ref
01:03:25
okay Flo is the announcer now Year we're both the announcers now you open I do cute 10 I do few up front
01:03:32
sweep sweep po just that part of your act and then
01:03:37
uh yeah celebrity boxing should come back be I'm just on team Brony I think he's in the toughest position for any
01:03:44
young athlete I think he's Brave to do what he's doing LeBron's being the dad and I hope in the end of the day bronny
01:03:52
becomes a good NBA player and his will um eventually retire he can't play to 50
01:03:58
in the NBA can he you know let's look at a clip what a hot take I had there that
01:04:05
was a hot take that was a Luke take um all right next [Music]
01:04:11
story swe poos swe poos Oh I thought this is interesting oh
01:04:19
it's it's one of those you have to listen to it is it too boring you wanted a comedian to you know that's what you
01:04:24
do in big comedy movies movies and Jim wanted an actor who would make him listen who would react who would get
01:04:30
it's a buddy buddy movie stud I can't a comedian will just try to top me and then we're into that and that's not what
01:04:36
this is this is there's a heart to this there's these two guys they're stupid as hell but there's a heart to them I got
01:04:41
the role and I I was aware that that others wanted someone else but I knew
01:04:46
that Jim Pete and Bobby Fairley wanted me so we all went to Breen Ridge Colorado story and the first day first
01:04:54
morning we shot the scooter me and Jim driving down the mountain pass and and I
01:05:00
say I got a pee and he I got the script ahead of time that was the first morning first day pulling into Aspen supposedly
01:05:08
and the snot coming down getting off the scooter that was morning stay on didn't
01:05:13
work the rest of the week we went to the lodge we did the chair lift on the pole with the tongue on the pole didn't work
01:05:20
why cuz he was broken we did sitting there getting we did going into the ski
01:05:26
lodge crashing the skis now we do the snowball in the head
01:05:31
now we get to Thursday and Friday and Jim hasn't worked yet and I may be in Dumb and Dumber but I'm not stupid the
01:05:37
audition is still going on I come to find out they're going to assemble these scenes featuring me and we're all
01:05:45
somewhere G to look at them over the weekend without and somebody is on call
01:05:51
somebody who's a comedian is waiting to hear whether he's going to go do the movie or
01:05:58
told but you could feel it maybe I'm just I don't know maybe I'm being paranoid I don't know okay I wait Sunday
01:06:06
I get the call see you Monday morning 6:00 AM huh Maybe I'm Wrong going to makeup
01:06:14
Monday morning Cliffhanger now we're shooting a scene with me and Jim Jim
01:06:20
walks into the makeup trailer Pats me on the shoulder leans in and says just keep
01:06:26
doing what you're doing they love you kept walking Jim car's a friend to okay
01:06:31
to this day that's what he said all right they offered me or they reached out to me to play the sidekick for real
01:06:39
yeah and that doesn't that doesn't seem like a stretch well I think Jeff Daniels was great and by the way all those
01:06:46
scenes that they they showed were physical comedy you know you would been
01:06:51
great I didn't think of that the tongue throws the snowball falls down so throws
01:06:56
it too hard I think but it worked it worked great he played it you know he's a serious actor and he hosted SNL
01:07:03
incredibly uh down to earth guy lives in Michigan his whole life and he played it
01:07:08
he he played funny it really worked and and with Jim Carrey is such a supernova you wouldn't want anybody
01:07:15
trying to you wanted something ju's opposed to him so it worked I mean it's a classic comedy it's great that's what
01:07:20
he's saying the studio wants a comic he's Jim wanted him and he's basically Jim saying you got a try out we can't
01:07:27
have two Jim carries we have to and that's what would have happened and that was his try out I thought that was
01:07:34
interesting that people don't know he had the whole week with no scenes with Jim and everyone just watching and going
01:07:39
and then they go fun they're saying can he be funny yeah and he did a good job okay
01:07:46
yeah he did he was absolutely hilarious in in the movie well Dana you were perfectly Pleasant today you were a lot
01:07:51
of fun um I thought that um Pete seagull he called you Dave and you called him
01:07:58
Pete I called him Peter and I call you David I thought that was kind of interesting but uh it was nice
01:08:04
revisiting that movie and uh we had fun talking about everything T boy keeps we
01:08:11
had a lot of trivia in there I lik and I'm feeling more and more uh positive the more I hear information from other
01:08:16
funny people and people in the industry not to jinx it but this movie bus boys I just feel like it's the right timing for
01:08:24
sort of what's coming out I'm just saying I'm going to look at it this weekend I'm going to look at a rough then we get to start to needle it so
01:08:31
yeah I'm thinking it might be good so I'm excited it felt funny we did it so
01:08:36
let's see this has been a presentation of Odyssey Superfly is executive produced
