00:00:19
cubic Corporation is a uh billion dooll
00:00:23
Niche business we just eclipsed a
00:00:25
billion dollars this year we have
00:00:27
principally three pieces of business the
00:00:30
first piece is involved in uh Fair
00:00:32
collection business for major rail
00:00:35
systems around the world Washington New
00:00:37
York Hong Kong Sydney Singapore London
00:00:40
we also have a piece of the business
00:00:42
that uh is a defense Services business
00:00:44
this business uh is instrumental in
00:00:47
training our troops around the world as
00:00:50
well as providing logistical support and
00:00:53
the business that I oversee which is
00:00:55
roughly a third of cubic portfolio is
00:00:58
defense systems and products were
00:01:01
principally known for three things the
00:01:04
first thing uh two are related to
00:01:06
training the first one was post Vietnam
00:01:09
we invented the Top Gun system and we've
00:01:11
been instrumenting fighter pilots their
00:01:13
airplanes for many many years we've
00:01:16
deployed those systems in 45 countries
00:01:19
in the late 80s we took that same
00:01:21
technology and we moved into the into
00:01:24
the army uh we uh did instrumentation
00:01:27
for the combat training centers got into
00:01:29
the miles business and have deployed
00:01:31
those kind of systems for 45 countries
00:01:35
in addition to that we're a niche
00:01:37
supplier of communications equipment we
00:01:40
provided the data link on the joint
00:01:41
Stars program the aster program we're
00:01:44
involved in the UAV world and we we
00:01:47
picked Niche
00:01:52
spots well um in the defense
00:01:55
applications business we're involved of
00:01:58
training the force for the US and its
00:02:00
allies and unfortunately our world is In
00:02:03
Harm's Way and so training continues
00:02:06
people need to be better trained and our
00:02:08
training actually has become more
00:02:10
Mission rehearsal so we we have some
00:02:12
growth in our business there the other
00:02:14
portion of of our business is involved
00:02:16
in intelligence surveillance and
00:02:18
reconnaissance and that's a very big
00:02:20
ticket item so the fact that we build
00:02:23
things um we don't have as much risk uh
00:02:27
small business etc etc and our business
00:02:30
will continue to
00:02:34
grow a lot of our clients in the US want
00:02:39
off-the-shelf products quote
00:02:41
unquote uh often the requirements don't
00:02:44
match this other desire so the the
00:02:48
challenge is to provide the very best uh
00:02:51
maintained margins uh not spending a lot
00:02:55
of money on research and development
00:02:57
normally we shared that with our clients
00:02:59
and today there seems to be less of an
00:03:02
appetite to do that fortunately we have
00:03:06
a huge Geographic footprint being in 45
00:03:09
countries and we try to leverage all of
00:03:12
those investments from these various
00:03:14
Nations to ensure we're providing the
00:03:16
very best so in in a strange sense the
00:03:20
non-recurring that we'll do overseas is
00:03:22
applied here in the
00:03:27
US stopped uh
00:03:30
I think we can mitigate I think we can
00:03:33
slow but if something is connected
00:03:38
electronically it's a timing question so
00:03:41
I think we can slow people down I think
00:03:43
we can anticipate but the enemy
00:03:46
continues to adapt and so it's a very
00:03:49
difficult
00:03:51
issue I I think that uh as we continue
00:03:55
to be In Harm's Way there will be
00:03:58
pressure
00:03:59
the procurement and R&D accounts and so
00:04:02
I think there will be uh slight
00:04:05
decreases not major decreases but slight
00:04:09
decreases affecting the defense
00:04:14
industry we have very good Core
00:04:17
Business um we could argue that uh since
00:04:21
we have such large market share in our
00:04:24
business that uh we need to get into
00:04:27
other businesses so we're if you will
00:04:29
betting on getting into other growth
00:04:31
businesses we're looking at uh cyber
00:04:34
business we have some interesting
00:04:37
devices in the Tactical environment for
00:04:39
situational awareness and combat ID and
00:04:42
so it it it is critical that we move
00:04:45
those things over the line to have other
00:04:48
businesses to chore up our main business
