funny one of the good dudes out there
00:00:10
and um you know this is one of the first
00:00:11
ones he was not on SNL but he did
00:00:14
audition and we're trying to get more in
00:00:17
the comics that are influenced and uh
00:00:18
grew up on SNL believe me anyone who
00:00:21
auditions for that show and doesn't get
00:00:23
it there's a story there oh they have
00:00:25
something to talk about a story there
00:00:27
let's give them something to talk about
00:00:30
to talk about uh Nick croll was first of
00:00:32
all he's does Big Mouth that that's a
00:00:35
huge show he's got his hands in so many
00:00:37
things it's hard to talk about how many
00:00:38
he's done but um he's in don't worry
00:00:40
darling the most talked about movie of
00:00:43
The Summer don't worry darling that's
00:00:45
the one oh he is okay so he's everywhere
00:00:48
he's on Broadway with John melany yeah
00:00:50
he's uh I did a show with him at the
00:00:53
logo he interviewed me oh yeah and he's
00:00:56
so likable and funny and I don't know
00:01:00
I'm just a fan I like when I go oh yeah
00:01:03
oh yeah I don't want to gush no that's
00:01:05
but I do think SNL might have missed the
00:01:07
boat but I I wasn't there I wasn't a fly
00:01:10
on thewall watching Nick croll do his
00:01:13
magic but you know you know sometimes
00:01:16
must kick themselves because they do let
00:01:17
a couple of uh winners go uh and he he's
00:01:20
definitely great he wrote for Chappelle
00:01:22
Show um he's uh I saw a story about
00:01:26
don't worry darling and it was on Yahoo
00:01:28
sports I'm like I think everyone is
00:01:30
covering this all right Nick craw Nick
00:01:32

00:01:41

00:01:44
some some people
00:01:45
don't uh oh hey what I get look I look I
00:01:51
get it nobody pops up like a Nick
00:01:54
craw well I I feel like I I I I felt
00:01:57
like I was a fly on the wall of your
00:02:00
conversation um what are we talking
00:02:03
State we talking state tax I'm going to
00:02:06
Arizona for the Super Bowl because I'm
00:02:08
from there and I feel like it would be a
00:02:10
real you know boost to the state in
00:02:12
general if I went and they'd be so
00:02:15
excited drop money there yeah I'm one of
00:02:17
the biggest stars from Arizona it goes
00:02:20
Hugh
00:02:21
Downs he's great he's funy of course
00:02:25
Charles Barkley played on the Suns there
00:02:28
he played he played for the Suns but
00:02:29
he's not he live there he's got a
00:02:31
residence s Francisco's got to clean up
00:02:33
that stinky Town that's a stinky town
00:02:35
they got to clean it's terrible it's got
00:02:38
that that town stinks I gotta clean up
00:02:40
San Francisco yeah he's great didn't he
00:02:42
get did he get pulled over in Pho is
00:02:45
that where he got pulled over do you
00:02:46
know that story what happened did he say
00:02:48
he's Elvis in this town no I heard a
00:02:51
story that he got pulled over
00:02:53
in in I want to say in Arizona speeding
00:02:57
and they asked him what happened he said
00:02:59
he was going to get a
00:03:01
[ __ ] the worst part was he was
00:03:03
heading to my
00:03:05
house now I was with him Bobby McGee
00:03:09
what do you say Dan I don't want to go
00:03:10
Blue on this podcast supposed to be
00:03:12
friendly and family friendly not anymore
00:03:15
not with C I got I was with Charles and
00:03:17
we went to Bobby McGee which is an old
00:03:20
like place to go on Sundays where it's
00:03:22
like you know a couple toet Tapper songs
00:03:25
playing Little Billy Ocean and then uh
00:03:28
we were going about a th000 miles an
00:03:29
hour on the way home and I go are you
00:03:32
going to get pulled over he goes [ __ ]
00:03:34
that I'm Elvis in this town they're not
00:03:35
going to do [ __ ] to me and I was like oh
00:03:38
and uh they didn't and they didn't pull
00:03:39
him over and nobody cared everyone loves
00:03:41
them is this when is this when you guys
00:03:43
were still working on your twins reboot
00:03:45
I would do it in a second with
00:03:47
him this movie was
00:03:50
terrible now they go you want to do the
00:03:52
livv tour you know the golf tour and he
00:03:54
goes yeah throw money at me I love he
00:03:56
just voluntarily gets in trouble just
00:03:59
because he yeah I'll do anything for a
00:04:01
lot of money and everyone's like what oh
00:04:02
he was great about the live golf thing
00:04:04
and all they're after him and goes if I
00:04:06
got that kind of money I'd stab my
00:04:08
relatives I'd stab a relative that was
00:04:10
it does it frustrate you guys when
00:04:13
someone like that who's that physically
00:04:14
talented as an athlete is also genuinely
00:04:17
honey like bugs the [ __ ] out word nobody
00:04:19
should get a twer nobody should get a
00:04:22
twofer I mean we happen to be we're
00:04:25
we're essentially narcissists David and
00:04:27
I so we're not really skilled at this
00:04:30
but we're having a lot of fun doing it
00:04:32
you can ask us questions too yeah but
00:04:34
anyway you look fit you look like you're
00:04:36
Nick looks cool and I I thought I took
00:04:38
off my hat cuz Nick's hair looks cool
00:04:40
and I'm like [ __ ] that look at this hair
00:04:41
dude I just got it D I gotta I'm I'm
00:04:44
working on it well can I ask a followup
00:04:46
do you mind if I follow up with you guys
00:04:47
about something you this is a
00:04:49
conversation we don't have to interview
00:04:51
yeah were you guys both there for the
00:04:52
Nancy carrian episode oh yeah I mean
00:04:55
watching it yeah watching it yeah yeah I
00:04:58
think the the best performance of any
00:05:00
SNL I think in my mind that was probably
00:05:02
the best performance of any uh person to
00:05:06
come on the show right and Nancy Carri
00:05:10
and did Farley play her or what what
00:05:12
really out of left field no I will say
00:05:15
one of the best sketches was Farley
00:05:16
skating with her oh right was that in
00:05:20
that that was that episode right I mean
00:05:22
oh yeah yes we had a lot of hype for
00:05:25
that episode she was a huge deal and we
00:05:29
got a huge rating and the show was not
00:05:31
that good and that's happens I was like
00:05:33
a you know I was uh was a m that was
00:05:38
like at my Prime like I was obsessed
00:05:41
with comedy just like getting super into
00:05:44
it and was and I I remember that episode
00:05:47
being so excited and one of the first
00:05:49
times being like that was not a good
00:05:52
episode even as a kid you were like 13
00:05:56
yeah I was 13 I was like this is not a
00:05:58
this is not a strong one not a strong
00:06:00
is it oh man everyone only remembers the
00:06:02
best stuff no one ever remembers how
00:06:05
many a night by the time we got the
00:06:07
update like the whole First Act sucked
00:06:10
and luckily we had Dennis Miller you
00:06:13
know the cleanup King you know Christ
00:06:15
sake you know good carve you got a
00:06:18
couple Giggles with the lady okay always
00:06:21
had this mouth wash spray yeah he had
00:06:23
binaka was he a baka boy he well yeah he
00:06:26
always had a spray thing he was always
00:06:29
at least
00:06:30
on the surface very relaxed we'd be
00:06:32
drench and sweat with glue and wigs and
00:06:34
we're a Friday night late he goes the
00:06:36
cat and I his wife is that's why was a
00:06:39
nickname we're going to go watch The
00:06:41
King and I down at the
00:06:42
orphan he was in a nice suit no there's
00:06:45
only one Dennis he's he is one of my
00:06:48
favorite voices to do my IQ does or my
00:06:51
vocabulary increases when I do Dennis
00:06:53
because well I feel like I still
00:06:56
remember when I think of my D like many
00:06:58
Impressions it's it's your impression of
00:07:00
them it's too if that's what I think of
00:07:05
tooo
00:07:06
too yeah that's great that is a perfect
00:07:10
nword if anyone listening wants to learn
00:07:12
Dennis Miller Christ sakes you see Eddie
00:07:15
sa the other night the Topo jio cat it's
00:07:20
actually some mouse okay I need a
00:07:23
marsupio talking to a man with a
00:07:25
hunchback all right he would say what am
00:07:28
I gleo and I go after 15 years I go
00:07:31
what's gleo who's gleo but it just
00:07:34
sounds funny it's got a K in it I don't
00:07:36
know what is it did you did he did he
00:07:38
know no I didn't dig enough but I I do
00:07:41
know that he remember saying SP yeah he
00:07:44
goes what sometimes in my uh cuz I
00:07:47
opened for his black and white special
00:07:49
he had two specials Rob Schneider opened
00:07:52
for one I opened for one because he was
00:07:53
com Schneider hey let me get in there
00:07:56
spade and [ __ ] hog the first one so
00:08:00
I go on the road with Dennis and just
00:08:03
watch him Crush every night and uh and
00:08:05
then he goes I go here's the five words
00:08:08
I didn't know um from this set and then
00:08:12
he goes n that one means nothing
00:08:14
sometimes I throw one in just to throw
00:08:16
off the [ __ ] you know the detectives
00:08:19
in the crowd that are trying to [ __ ]
00:08:21
one up me and tell their wife they know
00:08:23
everything I say I like to throw him a
00:08:24
[ __ ] curveball now and then yeah so
00:08:26
he says one that even he doesn't even
00:08:27
know he just makes it up and then they
00:08:28
stare at their wife and the wife's like
00:08:30
what's that one he's like I don't know
00:08:32
well I love when he does like a football
00:08:33
player from 1954 I hav't seen movement
00:08:36
like that since Nick look neck from the
00:08:39
Detroit Lions the Brock linebacker who
00:08:43
had three seasons before he blew out an
00:08:45
MCL okay car yeah uh Nick by the way our
00:08:50
guest today is Nick coll no it's okay
00:08:53
this is all it is anyway yeah but uh
00:08:55
this is all that ever was I like this
00:08:57
Nancy carrian question because it wasn't
00:08:59
even a question but uh just a fact that
00:09:03
it is hard we did that with Dice Clay we
00:09:05
had a huge hype and it just wasn't
00:09:07
[ __ ] clicking and uh that's when
00:09:10
everyone watches that don't normally
00:09:11
watch and when you're on the show you
00:09:13
feel this pressure like oh we're going
00:09:15
to get new eyeballs and then the episode
00:09:16
is a is a scker so you're watching SNL
00:09:19
like at that early 90s then is when it
00:09:21
first emerged for you and you're 12 13
00:09:24
14 I mean I'm watching it before then
00:09:27
really but I'm yes but I am like at
00:09:30
Prime like 90 in 91 I'm 13 years old so
00:09:34
I'm like per just aching for it like
00:09:38
want and and obsessed truly obsessed and
00:09:43
um and what you know again you know when
00:09:47
you're it's I think it's that age really
00:09:49
locks in because you're you're 13 you
00:09:51
don't have [ __ ] to do on a Saturday
00:09:52
night like that's it that's the plan or
00:09:54
at least I didn't oh no yeah that's it I
00:09:56
mean things affect you so much harder as
00:09:59
a young adolescent than at any other
00:10:01
time in your life it it it do it it so
00:10:04
it was deep for me and that Nancy
00:10:05
carrian thing was such a I mean it's so
00:10:07
funny that you bring up dice because
00:10:09
it's like as if they're both
00:10:12
athletes but it was more like comedian
00:10:15
you know what I mean but I think dice
00:10:18
made sense what does he does he come in
00:10:20
like let me tell you let me tell you
00:10:22
guys how this is GNA go is like is that
00:10:24
well yeah he was kind of sweet I mean
00:10:27
Nora dun chose to boycott that show as
00:10:30
you probably remember so there was a
00:10:31
huge controversy uh I found him kind of
00:10:34
sweet he says hey thanks for being nice
00:10:36
to me to me and love it I said I'll just
00:10:38
go the opposite find out who he is but
00:10:40
he was pretty funny I go what do you get
00:10:41
for a night you know standup you get a
00:10:43
million dollars and he always said what
00:10:45
am I going to do with a million dollars
00:10:46
as a way to say I'm getting more you
00:10:48
know what do you get for two nights you
00:10:50
get two million who gets a million for
00:10:52
one night what am I going to do he was
00:10:54
one of the
00:10:55
first Arena comedians for a while you
00:10:59
know well what what he's going to do is
00:11:00
buy a lot of weightlifting gloves turns
00:11:03
yeah I he translates that into gloves I
00:11:06
saw him once at the West Westside comedy
00:11:09
store anyway the comedy store they had
00:11:11
at Westwood so he comes up and he's in
00:11:14
the whole thing I've never seen him and
00:11:16
then he does the cigarette thing around
00:11:17
his head he's like for three minutes he
00:11:19
doesn't say a word he was so charismatic
00:11:22
he does the thing and he and then he
00:11:23
goes I'm going to get you I'm going to
00:11:25
get you you know and then and then
00:11:27
Kennison followed him well he but also I
00:11:30
feel like with dice the other thing was
00:11:32
that he it was like he could have gone
00:11:33
two ways because he also did like a
00:11:35
Jerry Lewis imp like there was two
00:11:37
versions of dice right the the the
00:11:40
Gemini that we all know him to be the
00:11:42
two-sided man yeah that he could have
00:11:44
gone like you know Fonzy or or Jerry
00:11:48
Lewis and he yeah he chose fony I think
00:11:52
probably closer to his heart and then
00:11:53
his his woman voice was really funny oh
00:11:57
yes oh dice here's one my favorite jokes
00:11:59
he goes I'm hey uh he goes this chick
00:12:05
blowing me and going up and down
00:12:09
knobbing my gob and in the middle of it
00:12:14
I go come on and she goes what's the
00:12:16
hurry they're all the meekest saddest
00:12:18
women what's the hurry so delicate he
00:12:23
goes what's the hurry dice you got a bus
00:12:26
to catch I go no you
00:12:29
do I thought my favorite line of his was
00:12:32
will probably have to cut from the
00:12:34
podcast a lot of these rich guys come
00:12:37
out gay later in life you know hey I got
00:12:39
a mansion I got a yach I got all this
00:12:42
stuff what don't I got oh I know balls
00:12:45
across the
00:12:48
nose it so
00:12:50
specific I like when he goes I Dream of
00:12:53
Genie Nick we get I just have to do one
00:12:54
more let our guest speak
00:12:57
Happ I saw going a gig and I go you're
00:13:00
out of your [ __ ] mind why am I trying
00:13:01
to construct jokes he goes you ever seen
00:13:04
I Dream of Genie and I'm in the audience
00:13:06
nodding my head uh-huh and he goes uh
00:13:10
she's in the kitchen with her big tits
00:13:12
and she's like hey Master is there
00:13:16
anything I can do for you and he goes oh
00:13:19
no jeie it's okay you can go back in
00:13:21
your but if she was my genie it would be
00:13:25
a little
00:13:26
different hey Master is there anything I
00:13:29
can do for you you know what Genie there
00:13:32
is you can make your tongue 8 feet long
00:13:35
and lick my dick from the
00:13:40
kitchen prod my first my first
00:13:43
performing actually some of my first
00:13:44
performing I remember is weirdly doing
00:13:47
dice for my we were on a a family trip
00:13:51
you know when you're on a family trip
00:13:52
and there's like a van like the the tour
00:13:54
guide has a microphone you know the big
00:13:57
everybody's in a tour bus and there's a
00:13:59
so the the the tour guide was gone it
00:14:02
was just me and my my family and I took
00:14:04
the microphone and just started doing
00:14:06
dice for my siblings you know I'm like
00:14:09
TW 11 years old and I'm like little boy
00:14:12
blue he needed the money you know like
00:14:16
the nursery rhymes were yeah those were
00:14:19
killed those are the those are the basis
00:14:21
of the foundation it's really like he
00:14:24
the him and The Jerky Boys were like
00:14:28
very very the first version of like
00:14:31
viral that I like cuz we were passing
00:14:34
around those Jerky Boys trank's phone
00:14:36
calls for people Frank Rizo open your
00:14:40
[ __ ] ears Jack you know he goes I'll
00:14:42
suck dick like
00:14:43
zlocki like I
00:14:45
just my wife she's got did you ever do
00:14:48
prank phone calls with all your voices
00:14:50
oh yeah yeah yeah we used to call me and
00:14:53
andreww Goldberg who who I created big
00:14:54
mouth with when we were that age he was
00:14:57
my we would do I mean Dan we used to we
00:15:00
used to host talent shows as as Wayne
00:15:03
and
00:15:04
G let me guess which were you
00:15:09
I probably probably Wayne I was the I
00:15:12
was in that moment the alpha of that not
00:15:16
that you weren't the alpha not that g
00:15:19
was the guy next to the guy which is a
00:15:21
good place to be yeah it's it was a
00:15:23
great place looking back I'm like oh G
00:15:25
was that's the spot that's the sweet
00:15:27
spot but but we were doing we were and
00:15:29
we were just doing Wayne and gar but at
00:15:31
like the our the talent show at my
00:15:34
middle school but but we would also call
00:15:37
WFAN the sports radio New York and
00:15:40
record them on a cassette tape and and
00:15:42
do them for each you know and we would
00:15:43
call up and you know be like you know I
00:15:46
want to I think uh Patrick Ying should
00:15:49
be playing point guard you know and they
00:15:51
you start sort of slow and they'd be
00:15:53
like oh okay you know CU he could see
00:15:54
over the top and meanwhile little did we
00:15:57
know that we were foreseeing what was
00:15:58
going to happen with the NBA then we
00:16:00
would get to remember Andrew Andrew
00:16:03
going one time he's like Anthony Mason
00:16:06
you know that's a very attractive man
00:16:08
I'd love to give him a bath in jello and
00:16:10
they and they at that point is when they
00:16:13
would cut us off as far as you can yeah
00:16:16
we get to the edge and they but we used
00:16:18
to call all the time all the time did
00:16:20
you guys prank call radio stations at
00:16:22
all was that a thing recently Adam Ray I
00:16:26
was on his podcast he asked me to call a
00:16:30
local Chinese restaurant as Paul
00:16:32
McCartney ordering and it was just
00:16:35
completely straight you know and they
00:16:37
didn't know it was you know I was like
00:16:39
this you know we like some egg rolls if
00:16:41
you got it you know some uh some fried
00:16:44
rice you know that sort of thing cuz we
00:16:46
enjoy it so much but they didn't have
00:16:48
any idea was somebody they just go okay
00:16:53
it could really be Paul McCarney they
00:16:54
don't care don't care [ __ ] done let's
00:16:58
go let's go yeah so Nancy carrian but
00:17:01
what happened was nick croll nick croll
00:17:04
no Nick let me tell you Dana on Nancy
00:17:05
carrian show one of the funny things is
00:17:07
Farley's the skater and I was excited
00:17:09
cuz I was Scott Hamilton and so we
00:17:13
were it was a good fit because uh Phil
00:17:17
was maybe Vern lanquist and Phil who's
00:17:19
the master and I got to sit right next
00:17:21
to him we were doing our analysis so
00:17:23
Nancy carrigan's great she literally has
00:17:25
to do nothing in the sketch but skate
00:17:27
well and and that was perfect cuz we're
00:17:30
like you're so funny in this but she
00:17:31
really didn't she was great but she
00:17:32
didn't do anything and Farley was
00:17:34
surprisingly a good skater yes so he's
00:17:37
got a funny outfit it's already funny
00:17:39
they start we like oh it's going really
00:17:41
well they're racking up the points you
00:17:42
know and then he falls and he gets
00:17:44
really pissed off when we go oo that's
00:17:46
going to hurt him and then they play
00:17:48
Pump Up the Jam we're like Pump Up the
00:17:50
Jam they will burn oh this is a perfect
00:17:52
triaxle and then and then he starts
00:17:55
wiping out so many times and then he
00:17:57
picks her up and throws her and it's a
00:17:59
dummy and she F so [ __ ] funny it was
00:18:01
a great sketch oh was great that one was
00:18:04
great and the rest of them were sort of
00:18:05
crumbling around her but it's not her
00:18:07
fault you know G athlete guests are
00:18:09
tough no but you can't when you're with
00:18:11
Farley in a sketch and he's doing
00:18:13
physical comedy yeah you just support
00:18:16
the Brilliance of of Chris well it's
00:18:19
also like something like skating which
00:18:21
is not something that everybody can do
00:18:24
it really is but I'm like oh right he's
00:18:25
like a Midwestern boy probably grew up
00:18:28
playing hockey so it's like he you know
00:18:31
I I I remember that I remember him
00:18:33
flinging that I remember flinging that
00:18:36
that dummy every once in a while there's
00:18:38
the good who you guys were you guys were
00:18:40
gone by the time like Payton Manning I
00:18:42
was always like surprised that I was
00:18:44
like oh he's very he he could really
00:18:46
carry a joke and move funny for such a
00:18:50
big guy you know he was dancing and I
00:18:52
think it
00:18:53
was well we had a you know I was on this
00:18:55
show the league it was a show about
00:18:57
fantasy football
00:18:59
Bobby bottle service oh God he he was
00:19:03
and we we had all the athletes on they
00:19:05
all came through that show oh that's
00:19:07
right all the football players and it
00:19:09
was remember JJ Watt uh and he I was
00:19:13
like this and you're like some of them
00:19:15
were whatever a little but then some of
00:19:18
them you watch JJ Watt he came in at the
00:19:20
beginning of the week he did he he did
00:19:22
one day we were at like the Beverly
00:19:24
Hills Hotel and then he it was the week
00:19:26
of the aspies and he shot like two
00:19:28
commercial and anb's bit and then came
00:19:30
back to the end of the week for his last
00:19:31
day and by Friday he was a markedly
00:19:35
better actor and you're like these guys
00:19:37
some you know these guys are so smart
00:19:39
they they they can learn that quick you
00:19:42
know what I mean like a guy like that
00:19:43
over a week like learns how to act and
00:19:47
you're like oh that's why you're one of
00:19:48
the reasons Beyond being a physical like
00:19:52
like you're physically you they took a
00:19:55
regular person and 25 pered them up like
00:19:58
to scale yeah um I was like this is why
00:20:01
you're so good you learn they can also
00:20:03
get coached like a like a by a director
00:20:06
and then they do they're they're they
00:20:08
get knowledge and implement it and so
00:20:10
it's like on the field and if the
00:20:12
director says do it like this they go
00:20:13
through their computere and go got it
00:20:15
and then some can really adapt and and
00:20:18
they compete they compete with each
00:20:19
other after the fact people will or
00:20:22
athletes will go my ass and I was better
00:20:23
than yours or you know I did better than
00:20:26
you the one guy who peaked on air was W
00:20:28
Gretzky who would seemed very shy very
00:20:30
Canadian and uh he's the one we were
00:20:33
doing a hockey sketch I'd never been on
00:20:34
skates in my life and he's so Canadian
00:20:37
nice he got down on his knees and was
00:20:39
lacing up my skates and then he showed
00:20:41
me Wayne Gretzky showed me how to hold
00:20:43
the hockey stick holy [ __ ] that was just
00:20:45
ridiculous but these athletes there's a
00:20:47
Charisma to them you know I do remember
00:20:49
that Elvis sketch from uh yes was that
00:20:52
Wayne grety Wayne Gretzky Elvis sketch
00:20:54
from that one right what was it was like
00:20:56
a he was singing there was some on the
00:20:58
beach Hawaii it was like a Hawaii Elvis
00:21:01
thing right and he just hit it on air
00:21:03
where all of a sudden he's super
00:21:04
charismatic and confident just just
00:21:06
peaked on air you know I mean it makes
00:21:09
sense also you're like oh right the
00:21:10
greatest [ __ ] goal scorer of all time
00:21:12
is goingon to like show up on the day
00:21:14
yeah just instinctually and Joe I had go
00:21:18
ahead oh yeah you had Montana go well
00:21:19
Montana wouldn't come out of his
00:21:20
dressing room for a while cuz he didn't
00:21:22
think he did well on the show so it's
00:21:25
like could you go back and just say
00:21:26
hello to Joe I mean that's how hard and
00:21:28
he did he did absolutely fine and I
00:21:29
caught a pass from Joe Montana D in drag
00:21:32
as a church lady was a thrill but he
00:21:34
wouldn't come out he just felt bad you
00:21:35
know so they're so driven so driven we
00:21:39
had uh I only had Michael Jordan I think
00:21:42
how was he uh charismatic the most
00:21:47
besides Mel Gibson in his prime where
00:21:49
the women on the show went crazy uh
00:21:53
Michael Jordan was the the the person I
00:21:56
mean the was it was it Charisma or just
00:21:58
Legend like was he charismatic or was it
00:22:01
just like you understood that you were
00:22:03
around this like Phenom of both both
00:22:08
yeah I think he also understood it and
00:22:10
he understood it yes you know he seems
00:22:12
like he would have been sort of boundar
00:22:14
like not not warm but I but I have no it
00:22:19
was fun to break through that because
00:22:20
you know there were so many people
00:22:21
wanted his autograph and there were
00:22:23
lines and there were issues but his you
00:22:26
know I sat next to him and read through
00:22:28
and being around hands like that you
00:22:30
know like a a triple hand and and he was
00:22:35
always so competitive he said to me very
00:22:38
seriously he's he's towering over me and
00:22:40
he's Michael Jordan he's a badass and he
00:22:42
goes do you Golf and I go well little
00:22:45
bit you know what do you shoot I go well
00:22:47
I'd be lucky to break a hundred long
00:22:49
Paws staring at me Steely eyes you're
00:22:51
not very good are
00:22:54
you it was kind of scary but but on the
00:22:58
day of the I'll leave you with this live
00:23:01
we're behind the slats and I could tell
00:23:02
he's a little I I'd say for him a little
00:23:05
nervous maybe and I said if you get in
00:23:07
trouble just look at the card and read
00:23:09
it off the card that's that's no problem
00:23:12
just read it off the card don't don't
00:23:14
pretend just go right at the card so you
00:23:16
see people and he did but he he had a
00:23:19
great show he he has a these guys have a
00:23:21
lot of Charisma you know and you put him
00:23:23
in a show and you can't take your eyes
00:23:25
off him sure I mean he but also I do
00:23:28
think he he seems like a yeah I could
00:23:31
see him being I thought he was going to
00:23:32
turn to you during the the r to and be
00:23:33
like I'm gonna get more laughs than you
00:23:35
this
00:23:36
week I don't know Carvey did well during
00:23:39
uh that first sketch and then it got
00:23:42
personal I feel like that was every line
00:23:44
in the Last Dance it was like well yeah
00:23:47
all I remember is him looking at that
00:23:48
laptop and laughing like they' show him
00:23:51
a scene and he goes [ __ ] you know what I
00:23:54
mean they play something for him this
00:23:56
guy said this about you and he goes yeah
00:23:58
okay
00:23:58
[Laughter]
00:24:03
[Music]
00:24:05
so Nick can we can we uh just for a
00:24:07
second cuz this this is what I when I
00:24:09
was watching all your stuff and we did
00:24:11
our thing at the Largo yes we did and
00:24:14
you you interviewed me and stuff and I
00:24:16
noticed how um versatile and explosive
00:24:19
you were like when you committed it was
00:24:20
like bam like you were gone and then
00:24:22
this intense character whooshing and
00:24:25
your resume is so Stout it seems in a
00:24:27
sense that you made to be on Satur Night
00:24:30
Live but there's a there's a catch spot
00:24:32
where maybe you got too big to be on it
00:24:35
early or something or what how did you
00:24:37
audition for it officially a few times I
00:24:39
did I I yeah I mean I think I don't know
00:24:42
you guys have probably had I mean like I
00:24:44
think like everybody it's like if you
00:24:46
are a
00:24:48
comedian and you know anytime in like
00:24:50
who was born anytime from like 1970 on
00:24:54
at some point you're like I wanted to be
00:24:56
on Saturday Night Live as you know
00:24:58
so that yes I had wanted it um and I you
00:25:03
know did improv in college moved to New
00:25:06
York started doing standup and improv
00:25:08
and then started doing characters like
00:25:10
kind of like live presentational
00:25:12
character work on stage um not directly
00:25:16
being like I'm gonna try to be on SNL
00:25:17
but it was like I think that was the The
00:25:19
Sweet Spot for me um and then I had I I
00:25:24
was on a show called caveman the hit
00:25:27
show C
00:25:29
the GE cavan it's a famous show at this
00:25:32
point very famous show we almost seven
00:25:35
episodes aired um seven I heard it was
00:25:38
uh seven months of makeup and then one
00:25:41
hour
00:25:42
taping honestly genu I mean you guys
00:25:45
have I mean you guys have both been
00:25:47
through the Prosthetics it's like it was
00:25:49
four hours every morning it was and
00:25:51
there were there were we were in every
00:25:53
scene so it was 4 hours every morning
00:25:55
for four months straight mother [ __ ]
00:25:58
13 episodes working 90 hour weeks or
00:26:02
whatever it was and and I have intensely
00:26:04
sensitive skin um and it I think it
00:26:07
traumatized my skin basically forever so
00:26:11
when it ended it was right at the writer
00:26:12
strike in 2007 and Jesus yes truly it
00:26:18
was we got preempted for the Charlie
00:26:20
Bown Christmas special and I knew we
00:26:22
were in trouble because the next week or
00:26:25
the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special
00:26:27
the week after after we were preempted
00:26:30
for the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
00:26:32
special the week after can you refresh
00:26:35
my memory about it for a second just
00:26:37
per the I know part so I got cast I was
00:26:42
not in the commercials I got cast on the
00:26:44
show I just had gone out to LA for my
00:26:45
first pilot season uh and I I got cast
00:26:48
on the show I was like the I was sort of
00:26:50
the
00:26:51
aeric you know Lefty CH did you go in
00:26:55
and read for them like a classic
00:26:57
situation
00:26:59
just did you use how did you just me it
00:27:02
was like sort of I was the sort of it's
00:27:04
this sort of the I've gotten a lot of my
00:27:06
gigs was sort of the Dead Pan like oh
00:27:09
really you know like oh really like you
00:27:12
know people like you know the problem
00:27:14
everybody talks about like cavemen being
00:27:17
these like you know Chrome Magnum but in
00:27:19
reality I have a higher IQ than everyone
00:27:20
I went to [ __ ] Stanford with or
00:27:22
whatever that you know that sort of
00:27:24
sarcastic mean uh dry so that goes away
00:27:29
thank God Nick in every episode you you
00:27:33
guys try to get
00:27:34
insurance well so funny because got that
00:27:37
in we go for our first the you know the
00:27:39
TS the TCA the big television critics
00:27:42
thing oh no they're coaching all of us
00:27:43
we're at the Beverly Wilshire they're
00:27:46
coaching all of us to be like everybody
00:27:49
get ready they're gonna come after us
00:27:52
that it's a Geico TV show we are you can
00:27:55
be very clear we're not sponsored by
00:27:56
Geico right the you know we own the
00:27:58
rights to it d d d like it's its own
00:28:01
thing d d d we're all prepared being
00:28:03
coached for it we get up on stage and
00:28:05
they're immediately all the critics are
00:28:07
like why did you make such a racist show
00:28:10
and we're like
00:28:12
what we thought we were making they were
00:28:15
making this allegory that it was you
00:28:17
know cavemen were a standing for all
00:28:19
minorities you know that like we've
00:28:20
gotten discriminated against we're this
00:28:23
under the critics did not see this and
00:28:25
so we just got blindsided as like your
00:28:27
your show is racist and this is I got to
00:28:29
say we were ahead of the game of being
00:28:31
called racist in for a TV show early
00:28:34
racist show 2008 2007 this is 2007 we're
00:28:38
talking early this is pre know wow so
00:28:42
there wasn't even racism yet was there
00:28:44
no there wasn't it was kind of racist as
00:28:47
a show I mean a little bit I mean I
00:28:49
don't I mean I was involved so clearly
00:28:52
there was going to be racism in it so we
00:28:55
that goes away then now I'm sort of a
00:28:57
free AG again and I started booking
00:29:00
stuff like I wasn't I was like oh I'm
00:29:02
going to I felt like I was going to work
00:29:04
you know um then I got a call me and
00:29:07
melany got a call the same day uh from
00:29:11
Seth Meyers I had met Seth in New York
00:29:13
he'd see me do some character stuff and
00:29:15
and melany had also done some stuff Seth
00:29:17
had seen him around and and they he
00:29:19
wanted to invite us to audition we were
00:29:22
at that moment pitching a
00:29:24
movie uh with Tracy Morgan uh that maybe
00:29:29
one day we'll make it was melenia and I
00:29:31
had this idea for a you know those
00:29:32
Nigerian email scams the Nigerian prince
00:29:35
email scams this is the one time that
00:29:37
it's real so it's Tracy Morgan as Lil Mo
00:29:42
the deposed dictator from lobia a kind
00:29:45
of a baby doc
00:29:46
duvalier kind of a ner Duell and kids
00:29:50
they get this email most glorious friend
00:29:53
I have $20 million that must be and and
00:29:56
then they all of a sudden there $20
00:29:58
million in the bank account and Tracy
00:30:00
Morgan shows up at their college being
00:30:02
like where's my money and Ted s if
00:30:05
you're listening Yeah by way you two
00:30:07
writing a movie everyone should just say
00:30:08
yes I don't pitch you know we by the way
00:30:11
so we we pitch we with Tracy I don't
00:30:14
know if you know we know Tracy you know
00:30:17
Tracy with his little his little hands
00:30:19
he's got those little hands resting on
00:30:21
his belly he's taking a nap at at at
00:30:24
taking a little rest at three Arts you
00:30:26
know in the middle of the pitch
00:30:30
in between pictures and we go Tracy
00:30:31
what's going on he goes I will I will
00:30:34
not lead a life of quiet
00:30:36
Solitude and we pitched him the movie by
00:30:40
the way the first time we went to his
00:30:41
apartment in New York the one that
00:30:42
burned down because of fish tank lit on
00:30:44
fire and we go to the shark farted or
00:30:48
something yeah the the the the Rats of
00:30:50
nim is that what it's called playing
00:30:52
quietly in the corner one of his movies
00:30:55
uh taped a poster taped up of it and
00:30:58
he's taking us around to all of these
00:31:00
are all predators you know he's got his
00:31:02
like he's got like his Shark Tank and
00:31:05
his eel tank and we pitch the movie and
00:31:09
we get a call that day being like do you
00:31:12
guys want to audition for SNL and we
00:31:14
were both obviously not together but we
00:31:16
you know we we were of course excited
00:31:19
and so then we spent like you know a few
00:31:21
days working on audition in LA and then
00:31:23
flew to New York and and I went to
00:31:26
audition uh uh uh you know I I go in it
00:31:31
was during the Olympics so we weren't on
00:31:33
the SNL stages we we were at the Conan
00:31:35
stage I guess upstairs I think yeah um
00:31:40
and I and it was the same year it was me
00:31:42
melany Bobby Monahan is the one who got
00:31:44
it that year uh Jordan Peele
00:31:48
unfortunately obviously that was the end
00:31:49
of his career that's too bad so talented
00:31:52
get a wall yeah Ellie Ellie keer a bunch
00:31:55
of other uh a bunch of other very
00:31:58
talented now successful folks all should
00:32:00
have gone right on how did you how did
00:32:02
that work it was like did you get a
00:32:04
number like you're up first second third
00:32:06
yeah it was one of you get in the room
00:32:07
there's like there was a it was a bigger
00:32:09
number I don't know there was probably
00:32:11
20 20 of us or something how many people
00:32:14
in the audience in the bleachers like
00:32:16
well so I so I get so we go you know you
00:32:18
get called in in groups of four and then
00:32:21
the rest of you are all waiting so we
00:32:22
get called in groups of four I get
00:32:23
called in somewhere in the middle and I
00:32:26
go I'm waiting backstage there's you
00:32:28
know a grip one of the Union guys
00:32:30
backstage he goes you gonna do John litz
00:32:34
and I
00:32:35
go and and I go I'm gonna do ly litz the
00:32:39
the the love child of John litz and L
00:32:41
litz and he looks at me goes save it for
00:32:44
the stage and I'm like Jesus get [ __ ]
00:32:47
roasted before I get out there who is it
00:32:49
was that bill hater in a costume or
00:32:51
something trying to sabotage Bob so then
00:32:54
I get so then I they call me out I get
00:32:57
out there
00:32:58
and it's just Lauren shut up and I'm
00:33:01
like and I'm like literally just Lauren
00:33:04
it's just Lauren and he goes they're
00:33:06
they're outside I'm not gonna do Lauren
00:33:08
with you guys go ahead I do it badly but
00:33:11
I do it all day okay so he's like uh
00:33:14
they're all they're all outside and I'm
00:33:16
like what I'm doing more I'm leaning
00:33:18
into the Canadian version of Laur I'm
00:33:20
not gonna do the so I go they're outside
00:33:25
he goes yeah they're out they're outside
00:33:26
I was like are they out there M how
00:33:28
great I am and he's like what and I'm
00:33:32
like I and then the stage manager comes
00:33:35
over he goes I'm sorry they're on a
00:33:37
bathroom break I I I I pulled I
00:33:39
shouldn't have pulled you out so so then
00:33:41
I had to go back [ __ ] stage manager
00:33:44
they [ __ ] iced me and Laur and I've
00:33:47
just like my first you know I'm trying
00:33:49
to my instinct when I get nervous is to
00:33:51
be falsely falsely confident you know
00:33:55
they're out there talking about how
00:33:56
great I you know what I mean I that
00:33:58
which is a funny thing to say yeah yeah
00:34:00
I think you know in that moment he
00:34:02
wasn't a rude but he also was like you
00:34:05
know you guys would know him better than
00:34:06
me I don't know what he's thinking but
00:34:07
he's not thinking like you know what I'm
00:34:10
gonna give this kid the laugh right now
00:34:11
that's so weird Nick that you go shoe
00:34:14
maker has diarrhe I'll be like Howard
00:34:15
Stern so you go out and half the people
00:34:18
had left to go to the bathroom and you
00:34:20
just see L and then he goes they're all
00:34:23
outside not explaining anything else so
00:34:26
you you go uh are they talking about how
00:34:28
great I am and then what happened and
00:34:31
then they send me back they send me back
00:34:33
WIS after the wings to wait for another
00:34:36
few minutes for everybody to file back
00:34:39
in and then I come back out and I do my
00:34:44
audition and my audition was good not
00:34:47
great like I know I know in my heart
00:34:50
like as as much as I was a character
00:34:54
guy I just you know I don't know it just
00:34:56
wasn't it wasn't it wasn't fire I the
00:35:00
roughest audience you're getting no
00:35:02
feedback cuz I did one how was your love
00:35:04
it oh I didn't do love it ah Lauren
00:35:07
would have liked that but that's that's
00:35:09
hard to land that when that because it's
00:35:11
an oil painting right maybe a couple
00:35:13
little Giggles you go what was your
00:35:15
biggest bit at that time your biggest
00:35:17
Surefire character goto I was doing I
00:35:20
don't know if I had Bobby bottle service
00:35:23
yet I was doing my character that I was
00:35:26
doing a lot that I would probably do now
00:35:28
anymore was a character named fabr fabr
00:35:31
he was the craft services coordinator
00:35:33
for That's So
00:35:34
Raven and he was sort of like
00:35:37
a you know if it was like a sort of a uh
00:35:43
a definitely a character I would not
00:35:45
start doing now which was a a like a a
00:35:49
queer blatino you know like those kids
00:35:53
in New York you know that like I'd see
00:35:55
on the subway who were just like tough
00:35:57
as Naes young like uh queer kids of
00:36:01
color who were just I was like nobody is
00:36:04
sharper or funnier or meaner than these
00:36:07
kids you know what I mean those like if
00:36:09
you saw if you saw them walking down the
00:36:10
street they're like oh no they're gonna
00:36:11
make fun of my hair they're GNA make fun
00:36:14
of me and they're gonna and I he was my
00:36:16
like filterless character I could say
00:36:18
anything about anyone it was my closest
00:36:22
to being David Spade that I could be
00:36:24
yeah um but I had to hide behind this
00:36:28
character so I did that I had a few
00:36:30
other characters I was doing some
00:36:32
version of Gil Fon from that me and
00:36:34
melenia were doing with ohello you know
00:36:36
my upper west side middleaged you know
00:36:39
or sepag
00:36:40
genarian um I I was doing holiday conic
00:36:44
Jr it was a Harry conic Jr just doing
00:36:47
holiday songs I I don't even remember a
00:36:50
few other ones it was I was fine I like
00:36:53
him I've always been a f I'm a kind of
00:36:56
guy you gotta like
00:36:58
I I was like if you put me on there's no
00:37:00
way I could have told Lauren if I was
00:37:01
just like the audition's going to be
00:37:03
fine but just put me on you know what I
00:37:05
mean put me on the show just put me on
00:37:07
the show and it'll be fine so um but I
00:37:11
at that point was really a performer uh
00:37:14
John audition um and got cast as a
00:37:17
writer but had made it clear I would
00:37:19
write it was I was never it was not I
00:37:21
was not putting myself out there to
00:37:23
write um but but I knew it was going to
00:37:27
be be okay like I was like I know I'm
00:37:29
going to I think I felt at that point
00:37:31
secure that I was going to have a career
00:37:34
but it
00:37:34
was it was you know it was the lifelong
00:37:37
dream was to be on SNL it still is I
00:37:39
mean I had my own sketch show on Comedy
00:37:41
Central and there was a part of me that
00:37:43
if it was like if they had if Lauren and
00:37:45
came to me being like leave the sketch
00:37:47
show come be on Saturday live as like a
00:37:49
featured player I would have I would
00:37:51
have done it you know what I mean it was
00:37:52
that it's it it holds that power and
00:37:56
Mystique for me
00:37:58
still and I and then John got hired and
00:38:03
so then I sort of you know and then I
00:38:05
had other friends getting hired around
00:38:07
then and and I started to become friends
00:38:08
I shot a movie with with Forte and sedus
00:38:12
the next year um called a good old
00:38:15
fashioned orgy and and then you know
00:38:18
through that and you know Jesse kleene
00:38:21
you know who spayed you know yeah Jesse
00:38:24
had gotten hired to be on your show on
00:38:25
on on Comedy Central Showbiz show yeah
00:38:28
the Showbiz show and um and she got
00:38:31
hired there as and and all my you know
00:38:33
so so my audition
00:38:36
was you know it
00:38:39
was it's one of those things it's just
00:38:41
like you know I I mean I'm sure you guys
00:38:43
have talked to everybody who's I don't
00:38:44
know does everybody have had that dreams
00:38:46
of being it's it's whimsical and there's
00:38:48
a lot of inputs into that moment how was
00:38:50
Lauren feeling did someone say something
00:38:53
sarcastic uh what's the mood what's the
00:38:56
vibe and what and what did they need you
00:38:59
know and what did they need at the time
00:39:01
and you they had at that yeah maybe I
00:39:04
mean at that point they had they had
00:39:06
armison
00:39:07
Seth uh haer uh
00:39:10
Samberg
00:39:13
sedus I mean let alone Forte so were
00:39:16
they trying to add another mail cast
00:39:18
member or looking for they were they
00:39:20
they needed I mean they hired Bobby
00:39:22
Monahan frankly as Bobby would say they
00:39:23
needed a big guy they needed a big boy
00:39:26
yeah that's true um and every version of
00:39:28
me was there so I was not like I I knew
00:39:34
and maybe I don't know if you guys like
00:39:35
manifest or don't like I I'm pretty like
00:39:38
I don't think like that I'm not like
00:39:40
today I'm GNA be a cast on Saturday
00:39:42
Night Live you know what I mean it just
00:39:43
was like I was like oh they don't need
00:39:45
me right now you know um maybe in well
00:39:50
that's like a gut thing it might just be
00:39:52
true they just you realize they've got
00:39:53
like you said if they have every version
00:39:55
of what you do they're like God it's it
00:39:57
is another person but sometimes they're
00:39:59
just too many and they go maybe we'll
00:40:01
use them next year which doesn't help
00:40:05
[Music]
00:40:07
you I have a question two two questions
00:40:09
yes one
00:40:11
is do you get a time limit does everyone
00:40:14
say you can do whatever you want in six
00:40:16
minutes or does I remember it being I
00:40:20
want to say it was five minutes and and
00:40:22
I think we were pretty Orthodox about
00:40:25
that time limit you know it 20 that
00:40:28
would be I I've only been to this comedy
00:40:29
clubs I think we went to see Louis C K
00:40:32
and we rolled in and we rolled in a
00:40:34
little late and the worst part is
00:40:35
everyone's like a dinner and on the
00:40:37
opposite side of the people coming in
00:40:39
behind Lauren to watch you they're just
00:40:41
like hey let's go to Huxley later oh
00:40:43
we're going to watch a couple of these
00:40:44
guys it's literally nothing to them
00:40:46
almost you know what I mean it's so and
00:40:47
then they roll in just half thinking
00:40:50
half like oh yeah these are auditions
00:40:52
and your whole month is studying for
00:40:54
this it's that's scary and when you when
00:40:57
you don't get I'm sorry go ahead Nick no
00:40:58
go ahead please when you don't get
00:41:00
something like that is there any
00:41:02
weirdness that you have to have does
00:41:05
Seth call you or do you say does he say
00:41:08
sorry or I I don't I remember getting a
00:41:12
call I think from my agents and finding
00:41:16
out that I didn't get it and that and I
00:41:19
think that John was getting hired as a
00:41:20
writer and you know with with all of
00:41:24
your comedy buddies especially John who
00:41:26
I've you know I've known since College
00:41:29
we did improv together in college he was
00:41:30
a freshman when I was a senior and I
00:41:32
always knew he was the funniest person
00:41:35
um from then on and I was so happy for
00:41:39
him but you know you couldn't help but
00:41:41
feel some tinge of jealousy or envy and
00:41:44
as I did for his whole run on SNL like
00:41:48
couldn't be happier more proud of him
00:41:50
and simultaneously like feeling like he
00:41:53
had been invited into the club that oh
00:41:55
yeah I was not and that even though I
00:41:58
have always felt incredibly welcomed by
00:42:03
literally everyone there like including
00:42:06
Lauren has always been very nice to me
00:42:07
it's like I've always felt like not
00:42:10
uncomfortable in that space you know
00:42:12
what I mean I never felt that you know I
00:42:13
think there are people are like oh I
00:42:15
didn't get it and then I never felt like
00:42:16
I was welcome like I just always knew
00:42:19
everyone there and I felt like it just
00:42:22
happened that I was not one of the
00:42:23
people that got it you know well I
00:42:26
audition what carry and he didn't get it
00:42:29
and he went out there and levitated the
00:42:31
room and put his foot behind his thing
00:42:33
and all these Impressions and Phil and I
00:42:35
were backstage going well okay Jim's on
00:42:37
it you know so so for whatever reason
00:42:40
and then the great thing is is you have
00:42:42
so much stuff out there I mean your
00:42:44
resume is huge no It ultimately and it I
00:42:48
went and did the league and then I had
00:42:50
my own sketch league is famous now I
00:42:51
mean it's like got and my sketch show
00:42:54
was my thing that was different than you
00:42:57
know W was different than anything I
00:42:59
would have done at SNL and and and I and
00:43:02
I'm very proud of and but also it's just
00:43:04
that you know it's also changed over
00:43:06
time I think when especially when you
00:43:08
guys were on it there were only so many
00:43:09
venues that you had to like if you
00:43:12
weren't on SNL there's nothing there's
00:43:15
nothing like to to make you pop through
00:43:18
unless you became like the biggest
00:43:20
standup or whatever you know by the time
00:43:24
I was by the time I was around I was
00:43:27
coming of age and all that it was like
00:43:29
you could have a sketch show on Comedy
00:43:30
Central you could get on The Daily Show
00:43:32
you could you could you could even start
00:43:35
to be on internet videos that started to
00:43:37
like you know Donald Glover gets on like
00:43:38
a sketch that blows up and all of a
00:43:41
sudden on you know on not even on
00:43:42
YouTube that and then all of a sudden
00:43:44
you you there there all of a sudden it
00:43:46
didn't feel like oh no if you don't get
00:43:48
SNL that's that you know you're gonna
00:43:50
toil no and I for people who are
00:43:53
listening they're just getting
00:43:54
acquainted with Nick Roll uh check out
00:43:56
the show and the league and uh you've
00:43:59
done all this animation and uh just
00:44:01
touching on this briefly but big mouth
00:44:03
is a a smash let's face it yeah which is
00:44:06
about it's bigger than the show smash
00:44:08
it's bigger than the show smash Ted
00:44:09
Sandos will not stop talking about it
00:44:11
when we have dinner with him when we
00:44:13
first started with big mouth you know
00:44:14
Nick Nick coll you know he's a friend of
00:44:16
mine I have his number do you want to
00:44:17
see it um but that you've done so many
00:44:20
uh and and standup special so I guess
00:44:23
for a second you have a new one coming
00:44:25
out this is kind of interesting
00:44:28
my first special I did a special in for
00:44:31
Comedy Central but it was kind of a
00:44:32
backdoor pilot for croll show called
00:44:34
thank you very cool in like 2012 it was
00:44:38
a mix of standup and characters kind of
00:44:40
it was a hybrid special at the time uh
00:44:42
which function as a sort of Comedy
00:44:44
Central being like Oh okay let's give we
00:44:46
get you know I got a sketch show out of
00:44:47
it and then but it's my first special in
00:44:50
10 or more years um it's called Little
00:44:53
Big Boy for Netflix and how did did you
00:44:57
warm up for it then what did you tour
00:44:59
did you just go to the Largo every night
00:45:01
or what did you work on I you know I had
00:45:03
been doing standup kind of
00:45:05
as I wouldn't call it a hobby I always
00:45:09
had 20 minutes you know what I mean like
00:45:10
you know you're like you're not touring
00:45:12
but you always have 20 minutes yeah like
00:45:14
I could always go to Largo and do
00:45:16
someone's show or you know Oddball there
00:45:20
was a big that big tour Oddball and oh
00:45:22
did you do the Oddball tour I did it one
00:45:23
year with it was me it was a year was me
00:45:25
aiz sh
00:45:28
MZ jazl neck it was a bunch
00:45:31
of excuse me was that fun that sound
00:45:34
like kind of a fun it fun that's a good
00:45:35
show because I was not in like talk
00:45:37
about Arenas it was all those outdoor
00:45:38
sheds it was like those 12 12,000 15,000
00:45:42
seeders well I mean you could have done
00:45:44
Arenas it's so funny it'd probably be
00:45:46
easier sometimes Outdoors are tough when
00:45:47
I do them it was yeah and we were all
00:45:49
you know and they they were flying us on
00:45:50
a all all of us on a plane together it
00:45:53
was super fun and I that was still at a
00:45:56
time when I had that was new new to me
00:45:59
and and I was with my contemporaries
00:46:01
those are all the people like you know
00:46:03
Amy and and Aziz and and melany and I
00:46:06
and Ja like we were all you know we were
00:46:08
all doing o not maybe not open mics
00:46:12
together I mean some of them I was doing
00:46:14
you know we were all started together so
00:46:16
that we were all of a sudden playing
00:46:18
these massive venues together so um but
00:46:21
I always had like 20 but I was sort of
00:46:23
like and around 2018 my girlfriend was
00:46:26
like she was like you should why don't
00:46:28
you she's like why don't you do an hour
00:46:30
and I was like I'm not the hour I'm not
00:46:32
the hour guy you know it's like it's
00:46:34
like that's that's that's Ali you know
00:46:37
Ali Wong or melany or the guy J like
00:46:40
those are the standups like they're
00:46:41
standups that's what they do that's who
00:46:43
they are I do stand up because I like to
00:46:46
do it I like to but I got other [ __ ] I
00:46:48
got to do you know whether I was I've
00:46:50
always been lucky to be working as an
00:46:52
actor writing producing so and then I
00:46:55
was sort of like you know I don't have a
00:46:57
good reason for this and and I kind of
00:46:58
was like you know what I'm going to
00:46:59
commit to it and so 2019 I I assembled
00:47:03
all the stuff that I those 20 minutes
00:47:04
and started building it built the hour
00:47:06
and then toured
00:47:07
it properly did a real tour and then got
00:47:10
to it did Australia new New Zealand
00:47:14
London came back oh [ __ ] top of 2020 and
00:47:18
was like all right I'm gonna shoot it in
00:47:19
in June 2020 and then I don't know do
00:47:22
you guys remember the pandemic yes
00:47:25
that's what it was that's what it's
00:47:26
called Uh
00:47:27
and it shut it all down and you know the
00:47:30
special the the tour was called
00:47:31
middle-aged boy it was all about me am I
00:47:33
a man or a boy kind of you know I'm 40
00:47:36
at that point I was 41 I hadn't had
00:47:38
hadn't gotten married hadn't had kids
00:47:39
hadn't figured anything out and then the
00:47:42
pandemic happened and then I ended up
00:47:45
marrying my girlfriend having a baby
00:47:47
with my girlfriend and so when the World
00:47:48
opened up again oh all of that material
00:47:51
then oh no wow ruined Ru so hard to come
00:47:55
up with material yeah that's why I don't
00:47:57
get married I want to do my ACT forever
00:47:59
yeah so but but it inform it ended up
00:48:01
informing the act and it became about
00:48:04
this larger thing and so then I I toured
00:48:07
it the last year kind of picking and
00:48:10
popping in and and you know doing a a
00:48:13
weekend in Texas of you know Phoenix and
00:48:16
and then I shot it in at the Warner
00:48:19
Theater in
00:48:20
DC in uh in June and and and yeah and
00:48:26
now it comes out in on September
00:48:28
27th um so can I ask you uh sorry to
00:48:32
interrupt but no please so here you are
00:48:34
you know you're so accomplished you've
00:48:36
done all this stuff and oh hello show
00:48:38
with melany and everything and so now
00:48:40
you're doing this special and so what
00:48:43
what was it about it that you wanted to
00:48:46
achieve like are there moments of it you
00:48:48
go wow this is is this is really a next
00:48:50
level of standup or did you feel you had
00:48:53
some areas you hadn't done before more
00:48:55
vulnerable or anything like that yeah I
00:48:57
think of the what I what I learned the
00:49:00
lesson I got out of big mouth which you
00:49:01
know it's this it's this animated show
00:49:03
about me and my buddy Andrew Goldberg I
00:49:05
mentioned earlier going through puberty
00:49:07
so we're it was 13y olds and it was we
00:49:09
were one of the first things on Netflix
00:49:12
after animated shows it after Bojack and
00:49:15
they really wanted us to go for it it
00:49:16
was it's super dirty incredibly dirty
00:49:19
but also same time yeah very emotional
00:49:22
it's a very honest and and I who plays
00:49:24
your pubic hairs or there's uh Jack mcre
00:49:28
and Craig Robinson are my pubes yeah got
00:49:30
it okay I don't know if I read for that
00:49:33
you did you lived it you sent us some
00:49:36
pubic ha I thought was which was very
00:49:38
kind I didn't understand the audition I
00:49:40
go here's my
00:49:41
pubes world too I was 38 I open the
00:49:44
script and Wayne goes g just got
00:49:47
pubes I'm 38 I go to Mike I go
00:49:51
what okay but anyway so back to you Nick
00:49:54
so what did you what did you try to how
00:49:56
did you feel about so I the lesson I
00:49:58
learned from big mouth because what I
00:49:59
found was I got rewarded by from people
00:50:02
you know audiences being like you you
00:50:04
know feedback was like it's so
00:50:06
vulnerable You're being so vulner and
00:50:08
and I and out of that vulnerability came
00:50:11
some real I think you both very funny
00:50:15
but also very emotional stuff and I
00:50:17
think you know I think Dana you know
00:50:19
this and D I think we all have like as a
00:50:22
comedian you have you have your your you
00:50:24
figure out how to have your be funny and
00:50:26
protect yourself David I know you're
00:50:29
always uh very open and there's no
00:50:32
you're never protecting yourself you're
00:50:33
very vulnerable on stage yes um but I
00:50:37
think when you're a character guy you
00:50:39
got your characters you get to say
00:50:41
everything you could never say as
00:50:42
yourself through your characters um or
00:50:45
your or you know the the wall we find a
00:50:48
way to have our walls off to protect
00:50:49
ourselves I think and and I and I
00:50:51
realized with big mouth the more
00:50:53
vulnerable I was the more I was Finding
00:50:55
gratification in being honest and and
00:50:57
and transparent about stuff and and some
00:51:00
of my favorite standups are the ones who
00:51:02
figure out how to share some version of
00:51:05
themselves that they're not that feels
00:51:07
real to an audience what was an area you
00:51:10
went to that kind of exposed that you
00:51:11
can do it now you have to do it like in
00:51:13
a funny way but just the subject you
00:51:15
know I mean I started like I have a
00:51:16
premise in there of like uh I there's a
00:51:20
bunch of stuff I I I end up telling a a
00:51:22
story about getting my my breakup I got
00:51:24
I got dumped like 10 years ago and
00:51:27
there's a story that didn't make the
00:51:29
special that inspired it which was like
00:51:31
I'd gotten dumped and then um how did
00:51:34
you get dumped text I I was no I we went
00:51:37
to a wedding together and then came home
00:51:40
from the wedding and she was the one
00:51:41
getting married
00:51:43
and first that was the first clue
00:51:46
marrying another man and she wanted me
00:51:48
to be the ring bearer and like a little
00:51:50
doy dressed and so I I felt frankly
00:51:53
frankly I felt a little
00:51:55
emasculated uh um uh but she she just
00:51:59
don't she the whole joke is I mean it's
00:52:01
true is she says I'm just not attracted
00:52:03
to you
00:52:05
um it was that's a rough one yeah it was
00:52:08
a rough one I talk about this story I
00:52:10
won't do the bit but it's you know does
00:52:12
anyone look in the mirror and feel good
00:52:13
about what they see I ask the audience
00:52:15
you know and and I just sort of start to
00:52:18
go into you know whatever the the
00:52:20
insecurities that I feel about myself
00:52:22
how what the inner voice that now in the
00:52:25
special is is Jason St aam for some
00:52:27
reason the the voice that I hear when I
00:52:29
look in so your Alter Ego talking to you
00:52:31
talks like Jason look at you look at you
00:52:35
that's really good do more of that for a
00:52:38
second I love it can you do the whole
00:52:39
special real quick just one hour of
00:52:40
course of course well we'll just release
00:52:42
it on the podcast so oh look at you read
00:52:46
you read rashy you know so he's just
00:52:49
putting you down like crazy that's a
00:52:51
great great premise voice crushing me so
00:52:54
that's fun I just love Jaden's statement
00:52:56
I never hear that's funny and real J
00:52:59
jimy what his name Jason what you guys
00:53:02
want to talk about what would Jason say
00:53:03
about our fly on the wall podcast I love
00:53:06
it I love getting the inside scoop on a
00:53:09
show I never gave a [ __ ]
00:53:12
about me it begins and end with better
00:53:18
you I was the little old man I'm you so
00:53:22
you all right now I'm getting mad about
00:53:24
you have that skill set of uh when you
00:53:26
do the character then you you can write
00:53:29
as the character in real time much
00:53:31
easier that's hard write Dana right I
00:53:35
mean it's much easier to write as the
00:53:36
character yes yes yes definitely but I
00:53:38
noticed that very much it's filterless
00:53:41
that I I it I'm able to enter a flow
00:53:45
State yeah if I may say something that
00:53:49
terribly uh new age is when I get into
00:53:53
charact if I'm really in it in character
00:53:55
the filter is removed and I can sort of
00:53:58
yes go and say anything I believe it's a
00:54:00
mild form of self hypnosis if you're in
00:54:03
a car with friends for hours and you're
00:54:05
just this stuff is coming out of you
00:54:07
where you're you're not even thinking in
00:54:09
a character uh it's a very exciting
00:54:12
place to be that's really funny so the
00:54:14
special yeah little big boy yeah so the
00:54:17
so the special is much more vulnerable
00:54:19
much more honest um than I've been as
00:54:23
myself it was really like because I used
00:54:24
to do the show my standup would always
00:54:26
be like a way to get into characters you
00:54:28
know and then so this was you know an
00:54:31
attempt to do something and I and I
00:54:33
wanted to just do it I wanted to be like
00:54:35
no I I I'll put myself up here and and
00:54:39
just you know like I'll put myself up
00:54:42
and and and you know and so we did it
00:54:46
well Lauren Michaels would say you have
00:54:48
a lot of Goodwill in other words your
00:54:50
audience loves you so they're going to
00:54:52
go with it but did you like the way uh
00:54:54
without throwing anyone under the bus
00:54:55
the way it was sh the way it felt the
00:54:57
way you looked at it was it hard to edit
00:54:59
it or or did you did you like the vibe
00:55:02
because it's hard to shoot a special
00:55:04
with the lighting the audience and how
00:55:06
many shows did you it's always your
00:55:08
least favorite show I don't know if you
00:55:09
guys have had this it's always your
00:55:10
least favorite show the tour yeah and
00:55:13
and luckily we I saved DC DC is a great
00:55:16
comedy in my mind a great comedy Town
00:55:19
played there they're smart but they're
00:55:20
not like jaded like New York or La um I
00:55:25
had been the the truth is I just come
00:55:27
off
00:55:28
of um I'm uh Mel Mel Brooks asked me to
00:55:34
do uh history of the World Part Two as a
00:55:37
show as a sketch show for Hulu so what
00:55:41
uh yeah so we we just wrapped that
00:55:44
before I shot so it's me uh I brought in
00:55:47
Wanda Sykes to to to produce it and
00:55:50
staring as well and and Ike Baron Holtz
00:55:52
and and his writing partner Dave stassen
00:55:54
and then we gathered bunch of people to
00:55:57
to be in it um damn did did you know we
00:56:01
Dana we I don't know if you know this we
00:56:03
asked you to be Howard coell in a bit
00:56:06
that never got to me I would have done
00:56:08
it yeah oh no and th down G Fria down go
00:56:14
frania we got we got of course the next
00:56:17
choice of course David Duvy who's
00:56:20
actually was very funny love davidov
00:56:22
yeah he's great but we so shot it as a
00:56:25
as a as a series as an eight episode
00:56:27
series for Hulu and um and so we had
00:56:31
shot that IID forgot what it was like to
00:56:33
make a sketch show it's so [ __ ]
00:56:36
exhausting I don't know it's just so so
00:56:39
we we shot that and then I basically had
00:56:41
to run right into shooting the special
00:56:44
so I was just frankly I didn't have
00:56:46
enough time or energy to be too cons I I
00:56:49
that's just sort of in a good way I was
00:56:52
sort of like I did as many shows as I
00:56:54
could leading up to it some of them good
00:56:55
some of them bad just to remember the
00:56:57
the show and then of
00:56:59
course just make sure you tell your
00:57:01
people make sure the one I tape is the
00:57:03
[ __ ] worst one and they go okay we'll
00:57:05
figure out how to do that no worries
00:57:07
make sure they have the cowboy shot at
00:57:08
all times because with mine they forgot
00:57:11
to do the uh the Carson J you know the
00:57:13
classic talk show host shot like up
00:57:16
upper thigh so it was just either head
00:57:18
to toe or kind of chest or neck his eyes
00:57:22
yeah it took me two weeks to get it even
00:57:24
watchable cuz on a everyone has 60in you
00:57:27
know 8K and then my face at you know way
00:57:31
after the age of 60 just right right in
00:57:33
your living room and things were popping
00:57:35
out like holy [ __ ] but it sounds like
00:57:37
you're so B did melbrooks did you know
00:57:39
him before this or did you get hey hey
00:57:42
it's Mel Brooks calling how are you kid
00:57:44
hi hi yes hello hi um no he yes he had
00:57:49
he actually came and saw oh hello so he
00:57:51
must I had a meeting with him me and
00:57:53
melany had a meeting with him and he
00:57:54
gave us a box of raisinets when left
00:57:57
jeez and and
00:57:59
he he um he came to see Oho and then and
00:58:03
then I saw him to present Blazing
00:58:06
Saddles at Radio he had met him a few
00:58:08
times and wow did they win a Golden fart
00:58:11
award did it did it I'll take it out
00:58:13
I'll take it out take it out um he and
00:58:17
that I mean for me it's it's SN Allen
00:58:19
Mel Brooks frankly there's nothing more
00:58:22
there's nothing and and when I look at
00:58:24
my there's nothing more impactful and
00:58:27
like the producers Blazing Saddles Young
00:58:31
Frankenstein Young Frankenstein and and
00:58:33
history of the world were massive for me
00:58:36
and I know those movies by heart and the
00:58:38
The Producers ended up being the for me
00:58:42
the biggest one for a long period of
00:58:44
time in my life that the Gene Wilder Max
00:58:46
B the genan Wilder zero mustell
00:58:49
relationship it's it's it's like I can't
00:58:53
tell you how so yeah having him come to
00:58:56
us was was massive that's awesome um so
00:58:59
the special is kind of like a throwaway
00:59:01
at that point but that's a good way to
00:59:03
do a
00:59:04
special it was it didn't allow you to
00:59:06
think too much about it but you know
00:59:07
with the specials like you watch it I
00:59:09
have to watch it a few times just to
00:59:11
look at my [ __ ] ugly face before I
00:59:13
can give notes on the you know what I
00:59:15
mean you just watch it you're like the
00:59:18
get all I can see is my my hairline and
00:59:20
my double chin that's all I see you know
00:59:23
the first I can't if I go on a show and
00:59:25
I feel like I should look at it I put a
00:59:28
iPad like 8 ft away from me and then
00:59:31
I'll watch it like from 8 ft away cuz I
00:59:34
don't need to know what I look like at
00:59:36
this point in life so but that's what
00:59:38
it's like what are we
00:59:39
doing nobody's watching us [ __ ] look
00:59:43
like you know what I mean nobody cares
00:59:45
but the comedians we're more vain than
00:59:48
the than the Brad Pit and then one
00:59:50
person says you look good on you go
00:59:52
really so gross I didn't I know I did
00:59:55
Hey look I only had one person say it
00:59:58
but when when I did my Nick they go I
01:00:00
had my my opener up there who does a
01:00:01
good job and and I was like in the back
01:00:04
we're kind of talking and I finally stop
01:00:05
I go listen guys what's that and I go
01:00:07
exactly nothing why why isn't he getting
01:00:10
laughs and then I go he's bombing God
01:00:14
damn so I go up there do it and my first
01:00:16
10 minutes is work and when you're up
01:00:18
there and you're going after your second
01:00:20
joke in my head all I think is this is
01:00:22
my special and it's I'm not doing well
01:00:25
at my own show yeah and so I go gross
01:00:28
and then afterwards they go you do know
01:00:30
they all were required to wear n95s I go
01:00:33
what and they go well they took their
01:00:35
masks away and gave them the heavy duty
01:00:37
ones they used to do drywall Jes and I
01:00:39
go well and then they go and they had
01:00:41
them face the other way just for
01:00:42
precautionary reasons and I go well so
01:00:46
and they told him not to laugh but other
01:00:47
than that it's just like a regular
01:00:49
called n95 oh my God David Spade's n95
01:00:52
but so they go we can we can of course
01:00:56
put fake laughs in later make it look
01:00:57
like you did good and I go no no I I did
01:01:00
fine I think just and I don't want fake
01:01:03
laughs cuz it's more for the people at
01:01:04
home and stuff so I go just play it the
01:01:06
way it is and people like the jokes so
01:01:08
they don't but it was a little bit of a
01:01:10
kick in the but there's that energy
01:01:11
there's just the the feedback for a you
01:01:13
want them to go crazy where everything
01:01:15
works fighting it too much I should just
01:01:16
come out as a church lady open it up do
01:01:19
a quick change no because I'm why why am
01:01:21
I fighting that and then come out as G
01:01:23
and yeah I should do a special just call
01:01:25
it you you know what you really want to
01:01:27
see the hits yeah and I'm always Dana
01:01:30
Carvey give him the hits give him the
01:01:32
hits okay when holl out is there they go
01:01:34
oh you want to hear rich girl now and
01:01:35
everyone goes yes the thing about Nick
01:01:38
you know he's got a show called Big
01:01:40
Mouth you know with the kids you haven't
01:01:42
gotten any pubes and they're going
01:01:44
around saying how are you how's your
01:01:45
pubes it's a very funny show you know we
01:01:48
love it h i read for the butthole we um
01:01:52
anyway uh thank you for sending us a
01:01:53
picture of your butthole by the way
01:01:55
again
01:02:02
it here's my prediction for Nick croll
01:02:05
yes you before the 50th which is 3 years
01:02:08
from now and I think it could happen
01:02:10
sooner more oh the 50th 50th anniversary
01:02:13
of
01:02:14
SNL before probably but for for sure
01:02:18
before that you will host SNL whoa Ah
01:02:21
that's very because it's a critical mass
01:02:24
that you're at and I think senior
01:02:26
special but all this stuff all these
01:02:28
years it just seems like a natural thing
01:02:31
so by saying that you're what I me it is
01:02:36
a yeah it's it's one of those things
01:02:38
that is
01:02:40
like it would be very nice it would be a
01:02:42
real would it scare the [ __ ] out of you
01:02:44
or not um no I mean it would be scary
01:02:48
because you just because it's just it's
01:02:50
just so it being on live like none of
01:02:53
that scares me but the place and the
01:02:55
place place doesn't scare me but the but
01:02:59
the it's like I get more scared giving a
01:03:03
toast at a wedding a friend's wedding
01:03:05
that I do uh than I do like uh like
01:03:09
going on stage for 1500 people like
01:03:12
because it it just feels more important
01:03:14
I get scared eating toast you really you
01:03:18
scared about the roof of your
01:03:19
mouth you know here's me here's me 10
01:03:23
minutes from now from now calling Lauren
01:03:25
Michaels yeah we just had Nick car on
01:03:26
he's so likable he's so funny I think
01:03:29
you should really have him to
01:03:31
host right I'm
01:03:35
kidding uh we're big fans here and um I
01:03:40
I think he would be terrific I like when
01:03:41
you want to redo your audition and have
01:03:43
them go we aren't starting everyone's in
01:03:45
the bathroom I go and you go oh you're
01:03:47
going to hold it and then it's just dead
01:03:49
silence you go I'll be on the wings I'll
01:03:51
be over there I wish I had said just
01:03:54
relive different things you say that he
01:03:55
does laugh at oh my God I don't think
01:03:57
there's a thing I can say that go going
01:04:01
back and playing that out I don't know
01:04:02
if there's a win for me on that you
01:04:04
nailed it though and it just didn't I
01:04:05
think he probably wasn't listening and
01:04:06
he's like what but it's also I don't
01:04:08
know when it was for you guys you were
01:04:09
in clubs it it's blinding light like I
01:04:12
didn't I couldn't even see him like I
01:04:15
could just hear the horror film it's a I
01:04:19
know when you're up there jumping around
01:04:20
like John B and no one's laughing if you
01:04:22
host the show Nick right before you come
01:04:24
out Lauren will be in the the wings and
01:04:26
he'll go they're all gone and they walk
01:04:29
away the crowd Lauren will just say the
01:04:32
same thing he said was that the thing he
01:04:34
said would be nobody's
01:04:36
here're gone they're all gone Dave did
01:04:39
you Spade did you ever do John Benet on
01:04:41
the
01:04:43
show I dated her briefly right before
01:04:47
after before the murder no we um no John
01:04:51
B was just always like a goto funny in
01:04:54
quotes reference in my and everyone's
01:04:57
like what the [ __ ] but most most most of
01:05:01
the time people would laugh at it but I
01:05:04
remember my first special I go uh John I
01:05:07
saw in The Inquirer after it happened
01:05:09
and I go she wasn't as hot without
01:05:11
makeup and everyone's like excuse me and
01:05:13
I go she was pretty she wasn't a stunner
01:05:15
I mean she had the the basic bones and
01:05:19
and I go by the way not super talented
01:05:21
she was good not a super talent I think
01:05:24
it was a lot of hype and then everyone's
01:05:26
like wasn't she five and you're doing
01:05:28
jokes about her and I yeah I guess I
01:05:31
don't know anyway here fo hey sge
01:05:36
sorry sorry RI my headphones all we have
01:05:40
to let Nick go because he's got 15 shows
01:05:43
to Nick um you're awesome and um let
01:05:46
this poor guy go enjoy the show I've
01:05:49
enjoyed both of you in all of your forms
01:05:51
for many many years so I'm I am
01:05:53
genuinely tickled and GR to be H it with
01:05:56
you guys so thank you for having me very
01:05:58
cool all right buddy that's very nice
01:05:59

01:06:01

01:06:04
Nick see you around campus yeah see you
01:06:07
around campus hey you know what I like
01:06:09
to go to that's like my gym that's where
01:06:10
I go to work out go to the store yeah
01:06:12
remember I stand in the store in the in
01:06:14
in the hallway and I go they go what's
01:06:16
up I go just running my new hour I don't
01:06:18
even have one just sounds cool it's
01:06:21
always so competitive over there I don't
01:06:23
like playing those places everyone's
01:06:24
like I'll see you guys I'll see you guys
01:06:26
on a weird Netflix as a joke Zoom
01:06:28
cocktail party yeah looking forward to
01:06:31
I'll see you at Ted's house okay bye
01:06:33
Dana bye goodbye everybody goodbye ad
01:06:37
what's hey what's up flies what's up
01:06:39
fleas what's up people that listen we
01:06:41
want to hear from you and your dumb
01:06:42
questions questions ask us anything
01:06:45
anything you want you can email us at
01:06:47
fly onthewall at Cadence 13.com
01:06:52
you got questions you got questions
01:06:56
questions you know kind of like a
01:06:57
letterman we get questions summer shitty
01:07:00
let's do it together we get questions
01:07:01
one two 3 we get
01:07:05
questions could have been worse could
01:07:07
have been uh many listeners have written
01:07:10
in about the goodbyes at the end that's
01:07:11
what they we call them the good nights
01:07:13
the good nights and when you're
01:07:15
backstage and it's like 11:28 you'll
01:07:18
hear good cast for The Good Nights cast
01:07:21
for the good nights and then you hear
01:07:23
that music that's kind of like sad and
01:07:25
weird and very
01:07:28
Mel it's over it'll all be over soon who
01:07:31
[ __ ] wrote that thing probably Cheryl
01:07:33
or GE oh Cheryl I love um I love G uh
01:07:37
okay the we didn't finish question uh
01:07:40
the credits roll in the host musical
01:07:41
guest the cast we hug chat and Stage is
01:07:43
it awkward any stories well the first
01:07:47
two years for me I didn't want to be in
01:07:49
the front because it looks too thirsty
01:07:51
and embarrassing so I'd run in the back
01:07:53
with Adam and uh whoever Farley would of
01:07:55
eventually within milliseconds get to
01:07:57
the front and and we'd always uh talk to
01:08:01
each other go I go Farley you going to
01:08:02
run and hug Tom Hanks or you going to
01:08:04
climb on his shoulders because you're
01:08:05
doing something obvious right in front
01:08:07
of the camera
01:08:10
no you are he's so shame and then we
01:08:12
would all just go who's going to be the
01:08:14
first one to squeeze up to the front and
01:08:16
give him a hug or get stiffed where you
01:08:18
go to hug him on camera and they turn
01:08:20
over here to Kevin you oh Shen Conor
01:08:24
what
01:08:26
yeah yeah I didn't want to be it it was
01:08:28
kind of embarrassing here's the deal
01:08:29
show Ross Pro here's the deal we just
01:08:32
did a show 9 before and we did the good
01:08:36
nights we did the pretend good night at
01:08:38
around 9:45 so you had your pretend good
01:08:41
night and then you have the real live
01:08:43
from New York good night but you don't
01:08:44
want to repeat your moves but you didn't
01:08:46
want to look too thirsty so you I would
01:08:49
always step toward the back and then
01:08:51
make my way to the front so by the end
01:08:53
I'm front and center and just full face
01:08:55
for everyone in America you know what
01:08:57
you do you play posum during dress and
01:08:59
you go I don't care I'm G to be in the
01:09:00
way back and then on hair I go well I
01:09:03
was in the back so much undressed maybe
01:09:05
I'll just squeak up
01:09:07
there remember the time I went for high
01:09:10
five with you and you got me a headlock
01:09:13
just for it's any way to get the camera
01:09:14
that never but sometimes I wave I go hey
01:09:16
Glen Close fist bump hey Michael Keaton
01:09:19
give him a big hug yeah and you you'd
01:09:22
have kind of if it was a shitty show and
01:09:23
the host was scared and their eyes were
01:09:25
so big and they were a little bit tipsy
01:09:27
they go how was it you know and the
01:09:29
camera's really tight on you and you
01:09:30
could read your lips not the best no
01:09:33
you'd always go it's great and you're
01:09:35
great embarrassingly enough if I was
01:09:37
light in the show or I was pissed off I
01:09:39
would boycott the good nights really and
01:09:42
marc'd be like cigarette in the hallway
01:09:44
where's Spade Spade good nights and I go
01:09:46
no she's like get the [ __ ] up there I'm
01:09:49
like no she goes oh you think Lauren's
01:09:50
going to give a [ __ ] if you don't go and
01:09:52
why didn't you go out cuz you weren't in
01:09:54
the show yeah cuz I was mad
01:09:56
cuz you're mad and I was like I'm not
01:09:57
part of the show why would I be up there
01:09:59
wow to me if I had a good church chat
01:10:01
kill maybe come back with a way World a
01:10:03
Hans and fr and maybe grumpy old man at
01:10:05
update I'd be happy to say good night no
01:10:08
[ __ ] but you would have you know what
01:10:11
bye-bye you'd kill with that you'd kill
01:10:13
with uh and you are You' kill with that
01:10:16
you kill with it you should totally get
01:10:17
it You' kill with that yeah then you
01:10:20
were kind of up but if I would miss I
01:10:22
think I went 13 shows once without being
01:10:25
sketch maybe I was an update once choice
01:10:27
but I was like really but eventually
01:10:29
when you crushed on the show I remember
01:10:30
Lauren saying David during good nights
01:10:32
um he has a nose for the lens he knows
01:10:35
how to find the camera
