Unsolved Mysteries with Dennis Farina - Season 2, Episode 7

March 09, 2017 / 42:47

This episode of Unsolved Mysteries covers the Boston Strangler case, the disappearance of Wendy Von Hubin, strange lights in the sky, and a touching family reunion.

The Boston Strangler segment discusses the murders of 13 women in Boston, focusing on Albert DeSalvo, who was arrested for unrelated charges. Despite his confession, doubts about his guilt arise, particularly regarding another inmate, George Nasser, who some believe could be the real Strangler.

The case of Wendy Von Hubin follows her disappearance after running away with her boyfriend, Jesse Hull. After Jesse is found murdered, Wendy remains missing, with a mysterious phone call suggesting she may still be alive. The episode features surveillance footage that could show Wendy, but the investigation leads to conflicting evidence.

Strange lights seen in the night sky are examined, with eyewitness accounts and video footage suggesting they could be experimental military aircraft or UFOs. The episode includes commentary from aviation experts and the Air Force's denial of any alien technology.

Finally, the episode highlights a reunion between siblings Donald and Dolores, who were separated as children. After decades apart, they reconnect, bringing closure to their long-lost relationship.

TL;DR

The episode examines the Boston Strangler case, Wendy Von Hubin's disappearance, UFO sightings, and a sibling reunion after 50 years.

in the early 1960s Boston was gripped
00:01:38
with fear a killer was on the loose 10
00:01:42
women were found murdered they ranged in
00:01:45
age from 19 to 75 and they had different
00:01:49
ethnic backgrounds they lived in
00:01:52
different
00:01:53
[Music]
00:01:55
neighborhoods the only thing these women
00:01:57
had in common was that they were both
00:01:59
strangled to death in their own
00:02:02
Apartments the police were frustrated
00:02:04
the public was terrified they named the
00:02:06
killer The Boston
00:02:10
Strangler there are stories of women
00:02:12
rushing out to dog pounds to buy every
00:02:16
available stray mut for protection
00:02:19
locksmiths reported a run on their
00:02:22
businesses uh people were obviously
00:02:25
quite clearly frightened by whatever was
00:02:28
out there 10 months after the last
00:02:31
murder few people noticed when a man
00:02:34
named Albert Dal Salvo was arrested on
00:02:37
unrelated sexual assault
00:02:39
charges davvo was married and had two
00:02:42
children he also had an extensive
00:02:45
history of sexual offenses one of his
00:02:48
many nicknames was the measuring man
00:02:52
good morning wow your neighbors War
00:02:54
right you really are
00:02:55
beautiful my name is Jack Johnson I'm
00:02:58
from the Cambridge modeling agency over
00:03:01
CVO pretended to be recruiting fashion
00:03:04
models he would smooth talk his way into
00:03:06
women's homes measure them for clothing
00:03:09
and then fondle them here's a contract I
00:03:12
was talking to you about and the scam
00:03:15
eventually caught up with him he was
00:03:17
arrested and sent to prison for one
00:03:20
year after diso's release police began
00:03:24
receiving complaints about the Green Man
00:03:27
a maintenance worker who talked his way
00:03:29
into women's apartments and then
00:03:31
assaulted them good morning how are you
00:03:34
fine how are you good the uh
00:03:36
superintendent told me to take a look at
00:03:38
your plumbing in she would let him in he
00:03:40
would make an overture toour
00:03:42
her if the Overture were repelled he
00:03:45
would leave but a surprising number of
00:03:47
times it wasn't according to him and he
00:03:51
ended up making love with the woman
00:03:52
right down later his assaults became
00:03:57
much more
00:03:58
aggressive event Sur these were the
00:04:01
charges that he was arrested
00:04:04
for oh come in Mr dvo the Salvo was
00:04:08
arrested and sent to a mental hospital
00:04:11
Dr Ames Roby was the medical director
00:04:14
there I see here that you've been
00:04:17
charged with a series of
00:04:19
molestations a molestation may be too
00:04:21
strong a word well how do you mean well
00:04:25
I mean all the women I was with they had
00:04:26
a very good time well the first thing
00:04:28
that was didn't so obvious about Albert
00:04:32
was his incredible need to
00:04:36
be somebody
00:04:38
important how many women would you say
00:04:41
you introduced yourself to with your
00:04:43
measuring and repair work
00:04:46
schemes 600 600 he would brag about
00:04:50
almost anything he gave the feeling
00:04:53
although he didn't say so at that time
00:04:56
that he sort of wanted to be as well
00:04:58
known as in quotes The Boston
00:05:03
Strangler 3 months later George Nasser
00:05:06
another inmate at Bridgewater had an odd
00:05:09
conversation about the Boston Strangler
00:05:12
with his lawyer flee Bailey if a man was
00:05:15
a Strangler the guy who killed all those
00:05:17
women would it be possible for him to
00:05:19
publish his story and make some money
00:05:20
with it he asked me whether or not it
00:05:22
would be possible for someone who had
00:05:24
done the stranglings to write a book and
00:05:26
my off-hand answer was sure but you
00:05:28
might go to the electric chair as a con
00:05:30
sequence later on I was asked to get
00:05:32
down and see this fellow Albert Dal
00:05:34
Salvo by my client Albert specifically
00:05:38
what do you want me to do for you I got
00:05:40
a wife I got a a 2-year-old son a
00:05:44
seven-year-old daughter and um I know
00:05:47
I'm going to be locked up for for the
00:05:49
rest of my life I just hope it's in a
00:05:50
house it was a little incredulous
00:05:52
because everybody develops a profile
00:05:54
you're looking for a monster somebody
00:05:56
you know whose jowls are dripping and
00:05:58
just didn't seem to fit there are
00:06:01
obvious problems uh about confessing to
00:06:04
a crime in print when there hasn't been
00:06:06
a
00:06:07
trial he wanted to be able to tell his
00:06:10
story he said I would like to find out
00:06:12
why I am like this maybe people could
00:06:14
give me tests or something before we
00:06:16
even consider that I need to know what
00:06:19
that story is well as judge probably
00:06:22
told you I'm the one they looking
00:06:25
for the one that did all the stranglings
00:06:28
okay I had no of knowing whether or not
00:06:30
he was telling the truth fantasizing
00:06:33
because he was crazy or had read a lot
00:06:35
of things in the newspapers and wanted
00:06:37
to be
00:06:37
famous let's move on to Sophie Clark two
00:06:41
days later Bailey returned to
00:06:42
Bridgewater with a tape recorder and a
00:06:45
list of questions with diso's permission
00:06:48
Bailey had struck a deal with the Boston
00:06:50
police they would provide Bailey with
00:06:53
details only the Strangler would know as
00:06:55
a way of testing the Salvo in return
00:06:58
Bailey was guaranteed the tapes would
00:07:01
never be heard in court get you know
00:07:04
like a stalk and a something to wrap
00:07:05
around the neck
00:07:09
and I knocked a pack of cigarettes on
00:07:11
the
00:07:13
floor pack of cigarettes on the
00:07:16
floor I left him there when I left oh
00:07:19
this guy has got to be it his
00:07:21
description of the crime scenes it was
00:07:24
just so accurate that uh that impressed
00:07:29
me you very much we have to proceed
00:07:31
cautiously but when Dr am Roby heard the
00:07:34
tape he was not impressed he believ
00:07:37
there was another explanation for Dal
00:07:40
sala's knowledge of the crime scenes
00:07:43
Albert indicated to us that he had gone
00:07:47
to the various sites that the newspapers
00:07:50
had named after the police tapes and the
00:07:54
like were off the doors in the
00:07:57
apartments just to sort of be there
00:07:59
there and see what it was like
00:08:02
fascinated you know I I I just want to
00:08:05
be there walk around get a feeling for
00:08:06
it Dr Robi says that delvo had a
00:08:10
photographic memory he may have visited
00:08:13
the victim's apartments or perhaps he
00:08:16
was just repeating what someone else had
00:08:19
described to him Roby began to believe
00:08:22
that Dal salvo's friend George Nasser
00:08:25
was somehow involved I first began to
00:08:28
wonder about something going on when no
00:08:32
other inmates would come near them and
00:08:34
they would immediately stop talking if
00:08:37
the guards or staff came anywhere near
00:08:40
where they could hear but they would
00:08:42
have extensive
00:08:44
conversations about what of course we
00:08:47
didn't know a career criminal George
00:08:50
Nasser had been in prison for killing a
00:08:53
gas station attendant shortly after the
00:08:55
Strangler killed his last victim at our
00:08:59
request Nasser agreed to discuss his
00:09:02
role in the case and his relationship
00:09:04
with Albert de Salvo for the first time
00:09:07
with Albert Del Salvo I was simply an
00:09:11
associate I've done the same thing with
00:09:13
many many
00:09:15
prisoners uh uh people come to me and
00:09:18
ask me for advice I give it to them if
00:09:21
they say if if it's worthy of me
00:09:24
assisting them I assist them for my
00:09:27
reasons because I feel it's it's a
00:09:29
Worthy to do the Massachusetts Attorney
00:09:31
General ordered that news of the salvis
00:09:34
confession be kept Under Wraps within
00:09:37
the police department there was a split
00:09:39
over whether Dal Salva was in fact the
00:09:42
killer I really couldn't break it down
00:09:44
percentage wise uh probably a little
00:09:47
more than 50% believed D Sala was the
00:09:49
Strangler and a little less than 50%
00:09:51
believed he was not the
00:09:52
Strangler then someone leaked a story of
00:09:56
the confession to the local newspapers
00:09:59
I don't want you to be frightened in
00:10:01
response to the story two women came
00:10:04
forward one was a survivor of a possible
00:10:07
Strangler attack the other was a
00:10:09
neighbor of one of the victims they were
00:10:12
brought to Bridgewater to see if they
00:10:13
recognized any of the inates did you see
00:10:17
somebody which one the gentleman all the
00:10:20
way in the back right next to the C next
00:10:23
to the car yes next to Door surprisingly
00:10:26
the one familiar face did not belong to
00:10:29
Albert D Salo but to George
00:10:35
Nasser next George Nasser responds to
00:10:38
the charge that he is the Boston
00:10:47
Strangler by the spring of 1965
00:10:50
investigators were totally convinced
00:10:53
that Albert the Salvo was the Boston
00:10:55
Strangler and then they were stunned
00:10:58
when a w was brought to a state mental
00:11:00
hospital and identified a different
00:11:03
inmate as the
00:11:04
Strangler that man is a convicted killer
00:11:07
named George
00:11:10
Nasser George Nasser would fit the
00:11:14
profile of the Boston Strangler we found
00:11:18
nothing that would rule him out not even
00:11:21
one
00:11:24
iota I do not kill women
00:11:30
I've never conceived of it I wouldn't
00:11:34
conceive of it I have a great respect in
00:11:37
regard for women beginning with my
00:11:40
mother who brought me up that way George
00:11:43
nassa was eliminated as the Strangler I
00:11:45
don't think he had the profile of a
00:11:47
strangle George nassa used a
00:11:48
gun all right Albert I want you to
00:11:51
imagine a calendar Albert davo was the
00:11:54
state's Prime Suspect even though there
00:11:57
was no physical evidence that that
00:11:59
linked him to any of the killings the
00:12:02
salvo's attorney F Lee Bailey suggested
00:12:05
that the Salvo undergo hypnosis and we
00:12:09
had him hypnotized and age regressed
00:12:11
right through one of the homicides and
00:12:14
the things that developed in the
00:12:16
presence of a very bright medical
00:12:18
hypnotist were of great
00:12:20
interest I didn't want to hurt I had
00:12:23
a I had a h of to helper this Recreation
00:12:27
is based upon F Lee Bailey account of
00:12:30
the hypnosis session when you were
00:12:33
strangling that woman who were you
00:12:36
really trying to
00:12:38
hurt
00:12:42
Albert my mother yeah the session seemed
00:12:45
to reveal that the sael had had problems
00:12:48
with every significant woman in his life
00:12:51
we found an involvement of his wife who
00:12:53
he married in Germany his daughter who
00:12:56
had a physical disability that troubled
00:12:58
him greatly his mother for whom he had a
00:13:00
LoveHate relationship and it was just a
00:13:04
beginning I love her no Albert no you
00:13:09
don't the answers were almost implied in
00:13:13
the question which at least from my
00:13:15
training is something you don't do
00:13:18
Albert I love her tell me how you really
00:13:21
feel about her I love
00:13:24
Albert Dr Ames Roby observed the session
00:13:27
and came to a completely different
00:13:30
conclusion I was not at all convinced
00:13:33
that anything had been uncovered and was
00:13:36
a little surprised later when Mr Bailey
00:13:39
announced
00:13:41
that uh what had occurred under
00:13:45
hypnosis was definitive
00:13:48
evidence
00:13:50
Albert even with the crimes he was
00:13:53
charged with he was considered gentle
00:13:57
polite his ual proclivities his General
00:14:02
attitude uh he was not angry and hostile
00:14:06
once you were inside the apartment what
00:14:07
did you see the Massachusetts Attorney
00:14:09
General's office conducted its own
00:14:12
interrogations the transcripts of those
00:14:15
interviews were never released but
00:14:17
author Susan Kelly obtained a copy while
00:14:20
researching her book called deadly
00:14:23
shate when you read the transcript of
00:14:27
those interrogations
00:14:29
and you come to a point where Albert
00:14:30
gives an incorrect answer to a question
00:14:34
he is guided to give the correct answer
00:14:37
and Albert who was a smart guy caught on
00:14:41
very quickly I remember I took the
00:14:42
chairs out and I remember laying them
00:14:44
down in the back where did you get the
00:14:47
chairs from the dining
00:14:49
room yeah from the dining room this man
00:14:54
was not the Boston
00:14:56
Strangler he didn't kill anyone they had
00:14:59
the right guy Beyond question no one has
00:15:01
ever come up with anything meaningful to
00:15:03
contradict that the question was how
00:15:05
could we try him as the Strangler and
00:15:07
closed the file in the public mind fle
00:15:11
Bailey struck a deal with the state
00:15:13
Albert to Sala went on trial but not as
00:15:16
The Boston Strangler instead he was
00:15:19
tried for sexual assault and other
00:15:21
crimes in connection with the Greenman
00:15:24
case in return the state agreed not to
00:15:27
press for the death
00:15:29
penalty this session of that's all we
00:15:32
wanted nobody ever wanted Albert on the
00:15:34
street including Albert until asked not
00:15:36
to be executed so that he could be
00:15:38
studied seemed to me a reasonable
00:15:42
objective after less than 4 hours of
00:15:45
deliberation the jury reached its
00:15:48
verdict on all counts of breaking and
00:15:51
entering and on all counts of unnatural
00:15:54
acts the jury finds the defendant guilty
00:15:59
davvo had wanted to be sent to a mental
00:16:01
hospital but his Insanity defense failed
00:16:05
davvo was found guilty on eight criminal
00:16:08
counts he was sentenced to life in
00:16:10
prison to be in prisoned for the balance
00:16:13
of his natural life it was a much more
00:16:16
severe sentence than he would have
00:16:19
received normally on the sex charges of
00:16:22
which he'd been convicted but he was
00:16:24
being sent to prison as The Boston
00:16:25
Strangler it was that simple I think the
00:16:28
most difficult part of all of this was
00:16:31
that whether they had it solved or not
00:16:33
they had quieted the Public's concern so
00:16:38
uh theoretically everyone was happy in
00:16:41
prison dvo was reunited with his old
00:16:43
friend George Nasser once again
00:16:47
questions were raised regarding nasser's
00:16:49
possible involvement with the
00:16:51
stranglings because Al wasn't tried this
00:16:55
case had become
00:16:56
mythical it became part of like a a
00:16:59
public fantasy of what really happened
00:17:02
it became a continuing mystery when it
00:17:04
should have been
00:17:08
resolved and I was part of the
00:17:10
mystery outside of prison Albert had
00:17:13
become a legend but inside he fear his
00:17:17
Fame had made him a Marked
00:17:21
Man after more than 6 years behind bars
00:17:25
dvo asked to be transferred to a cell in
00:17:27
the prison inm
00:17:30
here he would be isolated from the other
00:17:34
inmates on the evening of November 25th
00:17:38
1973 delelo telephoned his former
00:17:41
psychiatrist Dr Ames
00:17:45
Roby hello Dr Roby yes Salvo he wanted
00:17:51
to talk to me to tell me the quote real
00:17:54
story be a good idea for you to come
00:17:56
down here tomorrow there's some things I
00:17:57
need to talk to you about oh can't we
00:17:59
just talk here on the phone no no no
00:18:01
listen I got a reporter coming down here
00:18:03
at 2:00 tomorrow I think it'd be a good
00:18:04
idea for you to come as well he didn't
00:18:06
say what the real story was and I could
00:18:10
only hope that this is what I would hear
00:18:14
but I never heard when everybody
00:18:16
assembled who was in this infirmary in
00:18:18
my office as it was possible before D
00:18:20
Salvo could talk to Dr Roby And the
00:18:22
reporter he was found in his cell

murdered stabbed repeatedly in the chest
00:18:29
some believe that D Salvo was involved
00:18:31
in a drug deal gone bad others including
00:18:34
George Nasser say Dal Salvo was killed
00:18:37
in a dispute over cuts of meat that he
00:18:39
was allegedly selling on the prison
00:18:41
Black
00:18:42
Market somebody didn't want that
00:18:45
interview happening and I think they
00:18:47
have said before dead men tell no
00:18:50
Tales three inmates were eventually
00:18:53
charged with Albert D salvo's murder but
00:18:56
no one was ever convicted
00:18:59
was Albert Del Salva The Boston
00:19:02
Strangler Albert D Salva was the Boston
00:19:04
Strangler we learned that at Great and
00:19:06
tragic expense to the community and then
00:19:09
wasted him away we could have learned a
00:19:11
lot from Albert we didn't I think Albert
00:19:15
became the Boston Strangler because he
00:19:17
wanted so much to be the Boston
00:19:19
Strangler it was the most important
00:19:22
thing in his life for somebody who felt
00:19:26
all his life that he was a nobody
00:19:29
all of a sudden he could become world
00:19:32
renowned shortly after his murder
00:19:35
authorities came across a collection of
00:19:37
poems that D Salvo had written while in
00:19:39
prison one of them provided an
00:19:42
intriguing footnote to the legend of the
00:19:45
Boston
00:19:46
Strangler here's the story of the
00:19:48
Strangler yet Untold the man who claims
00:19:51
he mered 13 women young and old today he
00:19:55
sits in a prison cell deep inside only a
00:19:58
secret he can tell people everywhere are
00:20:01
still in
00:20:03

about next this gas station video shows
00:20:13
a young girl who looks just like a
00:20:15
missing teenager named Wendy Von huin
00:20:18
could it be
00:20:22
[Music]
00:20:25
her the girl in this surveillance
00:20:28
footage from a gas station is thought to
00:20:30
be a missing 16-year-old girl named
00:20:33
Wendy Von huin it is a crucial clue in
00:20:36
the baffling case of Wendy and her
00:20:38
boyfriend Jesse
00:20:42
Hull Wendy Von hubin and Jessie H longed
00:20:45
for life beyond their small town they
00:20:48
left Illinois and ran away together it
00:20:51
would turn out that this was a very bad
00:20:54
and a very dangerous
00:20:57
decision Wendy and her her family had
00:20:59
recently moved to a small farming town
00:21:01
in Illinois called Woodstock Wendy did
00:21:04
not adjust well to the move she had
00:21:07
trouble in her new school and she was
00:21:10
Restless she wanted to be old but she
00:21:13
didn't want to grow up she wanted to
00:21:14
play she was 16 going on 42 and at times
00:21:19
only eight Wendy fell in love with
00:21:22
19-year-old Jesse Hull Jesse was already
00:21:26
on his own
00:21:28
he wanted to be who he wanted to be but
00:21:30
he couldn't quite figure out who that
00:21:32
was he left the house and struck out on
00:21:35
his own he thought he could make it all
00:21:37
by himself and take care of himself by
00:21:40
yeah Bye Mom just days after Wendy
00:21:43
turned 16 she told her parents that she
00:21:45
was spending the night with her friend
00:21:49
but Wendy had other
00:21:53
plans the following day when she didn't
00:21:56
show up on the time when she was
00:21:57
supposed to we waited several hours we
00:22:00
had no calls the phone number that she
00:22:02
gave us let us know where it wasn't to
00:22:04
anyone that we knew or she knew so we
00:22:08
knew there was a problem we called and
00:22:09
follow a missing person's report man I'm
00:22:12
so glad to be out of this Wendy and
00:22:14
Jesse left Illinois with two other
00:22:17
teenagers but just a few days after
00:22:19
arriving in Florida the young couple's
00:22:21
romantic plans for a new life fell apart
00:22:25
they uh started getting on each other's
00:22:27
nerves they pulled into a truck stop and
00:22:30
Jesse and Wendy got out of the car and
00:22:33
this other teenager and his girlfriend
00:22:36
figured well this the perfect time to
00:22:37
get rid of them they got back in the car
00:22:39
and that was the last that they saw of
00:22:41
Jesse and Wendy at that time Wendy and
00:22:44
Jesse were nearly 1,500 mil from home
00:22:47
with hardly any money and no
00:22:49
Transportation but they were able to
00:22:51
disappear and the police lost their
00:22:57
Trail a month later Wendy's father was
00:23:00
at work when he received a phone call
00:23:02
from a homeless shelter in
00:23:05
Bradington hello is this William Von
00:23:08
hubin yes who's this this is John
00:23:11
O'Brien and I'm a worker at the tobler
00:23:13
shelter here and he said he worked with
00:23:15
a group that dealt with runaway kids and
00:23:19
it turned out that he had Wendy and
00:23:21
Jesse there with them here hold on Wendy
00:23:26
it's your dad come on
00:23:30
[Music]
00:23:33
him daddy she was crying said she wanted
00:23:37
to come home wend she didn't like living
00:23:39
on a
00:23:40
street I sent her down $200 at his bus
00:23:43
fair to come home I was relieved to say
00:23:45
the least I mean at least I knew that it
00:23:47
was in the process of her
00:23:50
returning Jesse
00:23:52
mom a few days later Jesse called his
00:23:55
parents from a truck stop he also said
00:23:59
that he and Wendy were on their way home
00:24:01
I know I know and when I continued to
00:24:04
press him to give me more information
00:24:06
and he suddenly said I've got to go or
00:24:08
I'll miss my ride don't worry be happy I
00:24:11
love you I'm fine and was gone and
00:24:14
that's the last we heard from
00:24:16
him Wendy and Jesse picked up the money
00:24:19
that her parents wired to them but they
00:24:21
never made it
00:24:24
home 48 hours later 80 Mi north of Dade
00:24:28
City Florida a train engineer spotted a
00:24:31
body in the bushes near the railroad
00:24:34
tracks 19-year-old Jesse how was
00:24:40
dead all of our plans for him for our
00:24:43
family for our
00:24:46
future were suddenly
00:24:49
changed and there was nothing we could
00:24:52
say or do or fix to make a turn around
00:24:54
and go back the way it was going to be
00:24:58
it was just
00:25:00
done Jesse had been killed by blunt
00:25:02
trauma to the head there was still money
00:25:05
in his pocket and a halfs smoked
00:25:07
cigarette on the
00:25:09
ground he was struck from behind had no
00:25:13
idea of of what was happening there was
00:25:15
no struggle at the scene that paired
00:25:18
with the fact that there was a clear
00:25:20
path showing that his body was dragged
00:25:21
through the Tall Grass clearly indicates
00:25:24
to me that this is a
00:25:26
homicide the crime lab was able to
00:25:29
locate a drop of blood on the cuff of
00:25:31
his jacket that uh was not Jess's there
00:25:34
are indicators that this could be
00:25:36
Wendy's
00:25:37
blood land and air searches for Wendy
00:25:40
turned up nothing she had disappeared
00:25:44
Without a Trace everything's left to
00:25:46
your imagination at this point you don't
00:25:48
have no idea what's going on completely
00:25:50
out of control they were always together
00:25:53
so she had to be there she was there she
00:25:55
was close by she knew what happened
00:26:04
no more than 2 months passed then the
00:26:08
phone rang at the home of Wendy's
00:26:10
parents hello and they said it was a
00:26:13
collect call will you accept the charges
00:26:15
and then I asked her to identify
00:26:17
herself Mom it's me it's me and a crying
00:26:22
voice she said it's me
00:26:25
Wendy and then she hung up
00:26:29
[Music]
00:26:32
Laura went next door to call the police
00:26:35
at 8:00 the vanban phone rang again
00:26:39
hello hi Dad Wendy is that you the girl
00:26:43
said she was calling from Kaki Illinois
00:26:46
the town where Wendy and her family had
00:26:48
lived until 18 months earlier so where
00:26:51
in ki she said she didn't know she says
00:26:54
where are you calling from she said
00:26:55
Philip 66 station I said is there a
00:26:58
number on the phone she said no there's
00:27:00
no
00:27:01
number everything was yes or no or
00:27:04
single word answers listen I got to go
00:27:07
bye the conversation was so short
00:27:09
William could not be sure if the girl on
00:27:11
the phone was actually
00:27:13
Wendy you hope against hope but then
00:27:17
again you want proof is this it and I
00:27:20
couldn't you know uh identify her voice
00:27:23
I went down to K key and uh based on the
00:27:27
caller to the vine euben saying that
00:27:29
there wasn't a phone number on a pay
00:27:30
phone I checked all the payones at the
00:27:33
Philips 66 stations one pay phone on
00:27:37
Indiana Street did not have the phone
00:27:39
number posted in the normal space uh I
00:27:43
assumed then that maybe this was the
00:27:44
phone that the call was made from and
00:27:47
obtained a surveillance tape from that
00:27:49
gas
00:27:50
station this is that surveillance tape
00:27:54
it shows a teenage girl matching Wendy's
00:27:56
description
00:27:58
police estimate the video was recorded
00:28:01
within minutes of the call to Leon
00:28:03
hubans when I saw the video I cried and
00:28:06
I said that's it that's her she's put on
00:28:09
weight but that's her that's her body
00:28:10
language she she does her hair that way
00:28:13
she puts her hands in her Pockets like
00:28:15
that that's her attitude that's the way
00:28:17
she walks I was positive that that was
00:28:20
my
00:28:22
kid but then another complication police
00:28:26
appear of phone records and when they
00:28:28
later traced the call they discovered it
00:28:30
was made from a different gas station
00:28:32
just 2 m
00:28:34
away at that station there was a flyer
00:28:37
posted with the V yubin's home phone
00:28:41
number hopefully it was Oney that made
00:28:44
the phone call but if it wasn't it was
00:28:46
somebody that saw the phone number on
00:28:48
that flyer and possibly was making a
00:28:50
very very cruel joke to him I'll go
00:28:53
anywhere it takes to get her heling back
00:28:56
I don't care where she's at I'll go
00:28:57
there and I'll get her and I'll bring
00:28:59
her home all she has to do is just say
00:29:01
I'm here and come get me I don't care
00:29:05
where she is I'll
00:29:07
come
00:29:09
update sadly a man known as the railroad
00:29:13
killer has confessed to murdering Wendy
00:29:16
Van hubin and Jesse
00:29:18
H the Killer Angel rendes claims they
00:29:23
decided to catch a ride with him on a
00:29:24
freight train and then look for work
00:29:27
picking oranges
00:29:29
when the train stopped at a switching
00:29:30
station Jesse got off and that's when
00:29:33
rendis hit him in the head and killed
00:29:37
him 8 hours later rendis ordered Wendy
00:29:40
off the
00:29:41
train he strangled her wrapped her in a
00:29:44
blanket and covered the body with
00:29:47
leaves when he confessed rendes was
00:29:50
already on death row in Texas for
00:29:53
killing a Houston doctor he received
00:29:56
immunity in exchange for for leading
00:29:58
police to Wendy's
00:30:00
body authorities believe rendes was
00:30:03
responsible for at least 15
00:30:07
murders he was executed in Texas in June

2006 next strange lights are seen in the
00:30:20
night sky could they be
00:30:22
UFOs or a secret aircraft developed by
00:30:26
our military
00:30:37
this video was shot by a camera crew
00:30:39
hired by Aviation Week Magazine
00:30:42
eyewitnesses say it shows a Pencil Thin
00:30:45
aircraft trailing balls of golden
00:30:48
light in this footage a conventional
00:30:51
airplane seen here is being filmed when
00:30:55
a mysterious object suddenly appears
00:30:58
the object travels at a high rate of
00:31:00
speed and Exhibits pinpoint
00:31:04
maneuverability in this haunting image
00:31:07
several eyewitnesses observe an unusual
00:31:10
light source possibly an aircraft
00:31:12
hovering over the Nevada
00:31:15
desert and here an unknown wedge-shaped
00:31:18
object which makes no noise flies over
00:31:21
Roswell New Mexico the footage was shot
00:31:25
by a man named Steven Douglas of amaril
00:31:29
Texas people have been siding and
00:31:31
witnessing aircraft that can do
00:31:34
fantastic amazing things I mean highp
00:31:36
speeed stop on a dime turn like a ballet
00:31:41
dancer Douglas believes that the
00:31:44
mysterious lights are in fact
00:31:46
experimental military jets he thinks
00:31:49
they're being kept under WS just as the
00:31:52
legendary stealth fighter was for nearly
00:31:54
a
00:31:56
decade recently there has been
00:31:58
speculation about a new spy plane said
00:32:01
to travel at speeds exceeding Mach
00:32:05
6 Douglas obtained what he believes is
00:32:08
evidence that the plane may actually
00:32:13
exist it was probably about 11:00
00:32:16
a.m. and the house began to
00:32:20
Rattle uh let me call you back this
00:32:22
house just really shook so I went
00:32:25
outside and there was this aircra flying
00:32:29
by over the house incredibly fast I've
00:32:31
seen a lot of aircraft crisscross
00:32:33
disguise around here but this thing I
00:32:34
couldn't believe how fast it was moving
00:32:37
and behind it it left a contrail that
00:32:39
would was unique what they call a Donuts
00:32:42
on a rope
00:32:44
contrail Steven Douglas took this
00:32:46
photograph of the contrail some Aviation
00:32:50
researchers believe that it might have
00:32:52
been made by experimental technology
00:32:54
allegedly used in the spy plane the Air
00:32:58
Force said they could not identify the
00:33:00
source of the contrail in the
00:33:05
photograph Douglas had another unusual
00:33:08
sighting a year later he was videotaping
00:33:11
military airplanes that were
00:33:13
participating in mock War Games shortly
00:33:16
after a group of B1 bombers took off an
00:33:19
unidentified aircraft entered the area
00:33:22
but Douglas only had 10 seconds left on
00:33:26
his camera battery my battery just
00:33:28
that is this aircraft made no sound at
00:33:32
all it was just super quiet it looked
00:33:35
like like a flying triangle and
00:33:39
immediately I know it must have been
00:33:41
tr3a Black
00:33:44
Manta the Black Manta is another of the
00:33:47
top secret aircraft supposedly developed
00:33:50
by the military it is thought to be a
00:33:53
reconnaissance plane that operates in
00:33:55
tandem with the stealth fighter
00:33:58
but in a statement issued to Unsolved
00:34:00
Mysteries the Air Force said of the
00:34:02
Manta quote it has no basis in reality
00:34:06
when the Air Force analyzed Douglas's
00:34:08
footage they believe the aircraft might
00:34:10
be a Navy e6b Prowler however the Navy
00:34:15
could not identify the plane citing the
00:34:18
poor quality of the
00:34:21
videotape a computer enhancement appears
00:34:24
to show a triangular shape WB Edge
00:34:28
Douglas claims the object was virtually
00:34:31
silent and moved slower than any
00:34:33
conventional military
00:34:36
aircraft these aircraft are doing things
00:34:39
which a lot of physicists have generally
00:34:41
said are not possible you know Maneuvers
00:34:44
their the way they fly how fast they are
00:34:46
and the real mystery is is how they made
00:34:49
the leap there are some that speculate
00:34:51
that maybe this technology was gleaned
00:34:54
from alien technology that somehow
00:34:57
either we have recovered or has been
00:35:01
here for a
00:35:02
while the Pentagon has never confirmed
00:35:05
the existence or recovery of alien
00:35:08
spacecraft however since this story
00:35:10
aired the Air Force has publicly
00:35:13
admitted that there is a plane called
00:35:15
the
00:35:16
Manta first a stealth now the Manta what

my sister and I always like to help her
00:37:09
cuz she was my
00:37:12
sister but within days Donald knew that
00:37:15
he and his sister would not be going
00:37:17
back to their mother he started looking
00:37:20
for a way to escape and then one day
00:37:22
when the nurse was busy they got their
00:37:25
chance
00:37:29
[Music]
00:37:32

00:37:35
sneaked her out the door and down the
00:37:38
steps and out to this whole b a
00:37:42
forward that's told now you sit right
00:37:45

00:37:53
button down on the floor that car go
00:37:59
I was trying to get this car down there
00:38:00
on that main road I didn't know which
00:38:03
way I was going when I got there but I
00:38:05
knew that that road I came in on it and
00:38:07
I need to leave by it you
00:38:10
know what do you think you're doing you
00:38:12

00:38:17
collar and went thrashing on me you know
00:38:19
and I knew she was whooping me but I
00:38:21
didn't feel no pain and I was fighting
