October 08, 202301:00:24
00:00:00
Mary lamby welcome to my podcast well K
00:00:02
to you and thank you for having me in
00:00:03
your fine beautiful Studio three camera
00:00:06
shoot two microphones one pair of
00:00:08
headphones and and and uh
00:00:14
personaliz you must be spish this is
00:00:16
your own genuine Chat Show isn't it yeah
00:00:18
well no one gave me my own but now
00:00:20
there's platforms where you can do it
00:00:22
yourself if you want to so you're not
00:00:24
actually beholden to some Network as I
00:00:26
was back in the day um saying what
00:00:28
you'll sit here you'll do this you'll
00:00:30
wear that you'll say this yeah and even
00:00:32
though I tested a lot of that and
00:00:34
eventually over seven years it became my
00:00:35
own gig but in the early days they were
00:00:37
very very controlly about who what why
00:00:40
how and the fact that you can set this
00:00:42
whole thing up and over how long have
00:00:44
you been doing this like 18 months now
00:00:46
yeah 18 months and um and and you've
00:00:48
just made it your own it's awesome it's
00:00:50
well done you oh thank you so much
00:00:52
there's so much to talk about with you
00:00:54
the most recent thing you've um popped
00:00:56
up again publicly for is celebrity
00:00:58
Treasure Island I'm Not Crying by the
00:00:59
way
00:01:00
you you is it a hay fever no it's not oh
00:01:02
sorry no I CU I appreciate we've got a
00:01:05
visual element to this no I had eye
00:01:06
surgery about a month ago which was
00:01:10
actually a game changer I didn't have
00:01:12
particularly stuffed eyes I just
00:01:13
couldn't read my cell phone you know the
00:01:15
small print and it just annoyed me
00:01:16
having all these plus one glasses
00:01:18
everywhere and my long Vision was
00:01:20
awesome are you in that phase now oh my
00:01:22
God such a pain in the ass man and so I
00:01:25
had this fantastic surgery where they
00:01:27
take your lens out they put new lenses
00:01:29
in it's been awesome but I'm just
00:01:32
finding I'm just settling down with it
00:01:33
so I have to eye drop and Carry On And
00:01:36
if it's quite a bright day and lights
00:01:38
sort of um aggravate them a bit but no
00:01:40
I'm very emotionally feel stable but I
00:01:43
may not look it but I'm really wrapped
00:01:45
with the surgery cuz you're you're uh
00:01:47
you're you're 10 years older than me um
00:01:49
but my my eyesight in the last year
00:01:52
alarmingly quick it's gone downhill my
00:01:54
favorite restaurant is an Italian place
00:01:55
called prago I can't read the menus
00:01:57
there anymore I know I know um I and
00:02:00
that you wait till you live with that
00:02:01
for about 5 years and then you'll just
00:02:02
say enough and it was only through a
00:02:05
friend of mine who's exactly the same
00:02:06
age as me who went off and had it done I
00:02:08
went you what you had your lenses
00:02:11
someone went into your eye and took out
00:02:13
your natural lens and put another one in
00:02:16
she said yeah happens all the time
00:02:17
everyone's doing it so if you see an
00:02:19
older person with no glasses you know
00:02:20
they've probably had the
00:02:22
surgery what a great way to start it but
00:02:26
the glasses thing I I I was embarrassed
00:02:29
about I don't know why maybe there
00:02:30
stigma of glasses or feeling of old age
00:02:32
or something but I was in the the
00:02:34
supermarket aisle with the magazines and
00:02:35
the stationer and the glasses and
00:02:36
there's no one else in the aisle so I
00:02:37
thought I'm going to try some on um so I
00:02:39
tried on the plus ones and it was like a
00:02:44
moment yeah I the font on my phone
00:02:46
looked huge all of a sudden but now
00:02:48
Supermarket shopping is such a different
00:02:50
experience for me because you know how
00:02:51
sometimes on the little little type on
00:02:53
the price tickets and they'll say it's x
00:02:55
amount per kilo you know and I often
00:02:57
look at that as opposed to the bigger
00:02:58
price well that was in font so tiny that
00:03:01
I just couldn't be bothered putting
00:03:03
getting in my glasses and putting them
00:03:04
on and and but now shopping has become
00:03:08
quite a different experience because I
00:03:09
can actually see what I'm paying for
00:03:11
stuff it's awesome no I'm I'm really
00:03:12
thrilled with that and I can't wait till
00:03:13
they fully settled down beig great oh
00:03:15
how good okay so um yeah I want to talk
00:03:17
about celebrity Treasure Island oh yeah
00:03:19
then we can talk about um the early
00:03:21
years of Mary lambi um maybe the good
00:03:22
morning stuff and then the um the
00:03:24
transition into being a a business owner
00:03:26
with Subway oh well I don't do that
00:03:28
anymore yeah no but no but you did it's
00:03:29
a it's a chapter on your life my La yeah
00:03:31
oh sorry I thought you thought I still
00:03:33
had the
00:03:34
stores I thought man you haven't done
00:03:36
your research man was seven years ago
00:03:38
wor okay so first of all celebrity
00:03:40
celebrity Treasure Island um I'm
00:03:43
guessing there's one of three reasons
00:03:44
you went on it's either um for the money
00:03:47
the profile or the
00:03:48
experience yeah the third experience I
00:03:51
love an adventure I actually love an
00:03:54
adventure and I was invited to sort of
00:03:56
be part of it because I clearly short of
00:03:58
women of a certain age because you know
00:03:59
they like to cover the whole gamut of
00:04:02
age and they did ask me a couple years
00:04:04
ago and it just didn't work out with the
00:04:06
children I mean my kids now have all
00:04:08
left school so they're fully independent
00:04:09
and it's wonderful but then no there was
00:04:12
just too much juggle involved with the
00:04:13
three of them they're all quite close in
00:04:15
age my kids and so I thought no no
00:04:17
that's not going to work that's not
00:04:18
going to work but this time it worked
00:04:20
and I I love the outdoors and I love an
00:04:23
adventure and I thought I will not win
00:04:25
this so I never went in thinking man I'm
00:04:27
going to take this out no I just wanted
00:04:30
to experience it but also to win it you
00:04:32
got to be there a long time he like a
00:04:34
month 30 days or something uh yeah I
00:04:37
don't know what they knocked it out in
00:04:38
the probably about 3 weeks or there
00:04:39
about something I don't know because I
00:04:41
clearly like it to the end in fact I've
00:04:43
barely seen an episode so I hope it's
00:04:45
cutting well it's edited well at the
00:04:47
time of um recording this I've been sent
00:04:50
an advanced episode of the episode where
00:04:52
you get kicked out eliminated um you you
00:04:55
haven't seen that no no no no no I
00:04:57
haven't to be fair I have seen very few
00:04:59
of them um in fact I've seen one I've
00:05:01
just been busy with other stuff and I
00:05:03
thought I'll go online eventually and
00:05:05
have a good geese but we've got some of
00:05:07
us who are on the cast we have got a
00:05:09
WhatsApp so I'm sort of up to dat on how
00:05:12
everyone's being portrayed just through
00:05:14
that but no I one day I'll sit down and
00:05:16
have a look oh God I know what I did in
00:05:18
my exd interview with oh please tell me
00:05:21
they didn't they didn't are you Tire of
00:05:24
swearing at the end yes my filthy sewer
00:05:28
don't oh no didn't the cut yeah right at
00:05:31
the very end of the episode so um sorry
00:05:34
sorry terrible I mean the the the
00:05:36
fragmented nature of media now there be
00:05:37
some people listening to this that would
00:05:38
have seen the show um there be a lot
00:05:41
that wouldn't have even seen the show
00:05:42
but you you kind of got a shafted at the
00:05:43
end so there was an elimination
00:05:45
challenge with you and uh Matilda rice
00:05:48
yeah um you lost and then you thought
00:05:51
Jordan your team was kind saved me who
00:05:54
are these people by the way yeah
00:05:56
you I I know who Matilda is yeah was a l
00:06:00
if you you'd know tamari Steve price
00:06:02
Matilda yeah I didn't know Steve price
00:06:04
because I don't really follow sport much
00:06:06
but he's a fantastic man and I've got to
00:06:08
know him after the show really more than
00:06:10
I think um I didn't know I knew Blair
00:06:15
Blair Blair string yeah ranging from
00:06:17
Short Street yeah yeah yeah the guy from
00:06:19
shortland Street he became known on as
00:06:21
on the shoot uh Jordan is the dude who
00:06:24
presents Lotto the lotto guy yeah um so
00:06:27
so he he had he had like a pass card or
00:06:30
whatever you want to call it so he could
00:06:31
have kept you in the competition yeah um
00:06:33
and you were under the under the
00:06:36
impression that that's what was going to
00:06:38
happen he was going to throw you a
00:06:39
Lifeline do you know why I was under
00:06:40
that impression because he told me he
00:06:42
was going to save me and I'm That Kind
00:06:45
of transparent you know tell it as it is
00:06:49
you know I'm not a backstabby type and I
00:06:52
know people say oh Mary it's just a game
00:06:53
and you know Let It Go but actually I
00:06:55
think the way you play the game is is
00:06:57
reflective quite of who you are and
00:07:00
maybe I'm just old and conservative but
00:07:02
I I just do it the old school way you
00:07:04
know inte yeah well I don't know I don't
00:07:06
want to sort of beat myself up too much
00:07:08
in in terms of you know Elevate myself
00:07:09
too much but in the old days if you said
00:07:11
you're going to do something or I'm
00:07:13
going to do something for you hey guess
00:07:15
what we did it but I know he kind of was
00:07:18
working within the parameters of the
00:07:19
game but still I think if he was not
00:07:23
wanting me on the team and I was first
00:07:25
to go and I was the weakest link and all
00:07:27
of that man I can accept that and I'm
00:07:30
not two years old he just should have
00:07:31
come up to me and said well hey Mary I
00:07:34
know I've said I'll save everybody but
00:07:37
actually I'm not going to save you and
00:07:39
I'll go that's sweet and so I would have
00:07:42
gone in knowing I am absolutely up for
00:07:45
The Chopping Block but the fact and I'm
00:07:47
really embarrassed that a I get I screw
00:07:51
up the spelling of Victorious but also I
00:07:53
really genuinely thought he would save
00:07:55
me so I got fully shafted I I'm so naive
00:07:59
an pathetic so um at the end uh there
00:08:03
was a swearing T by the way was that
00:08:05
serious or playful like at the time oh
00:08:07
in route it was pretty playful and I
00:08:09
thought it would never make the cut I
00:08:10
thought that there is no way that that
00:08:13
will make the cut well there was a lot
00:08:14
of beeps through it well there would
00:08:16
have to be a number of I but then you
00:08:19
laugh at the end you cackle at the end
00:08:21
yeah look it yeah you know like I'm 100
00:08:24
years old I mean get perspective I had
00:08:26
um you know I I was still kind of in a
00:08:28
State of Shock no one wants to leave but
00:08:33
but and and no time is a good time to
00:08:35
leave however you know you are going to
00:08:37
leave and when that time does arrive
00:08:40
there's actually quite a lot to process
00:08:42
about it all and I wasn't happy the way
00:08:44
that challenge went and everything
00:08:46
because I knew the word I just sort of
00:08:47
mued up my I us at the end
00:08:50
like um but panicked P how many how many
00:08:52
days were you there um that's a really
00:08:55
good question I'm going to say about
00:08:57
seven right [ __ ] that's a long time May
00:09:00
yeah do you know the thing that really
00:09:02
really really really got to me was the
00:09:03
lack of sleep I couldn't give a [ __ ]
00:09:04
about the food believe it or not I um it
00:09:06
was the lack of sleep man I'm a 9h hour
00:09:09
a night girl and I can't do it on 9
00:09:11
minutes and when those bunks literally
00:09:14
are just a few hunks of wood with a bit
00:09:15
of hisy and Sack I was [ __ ] miserable
00:09:19
I really was along with you Steve price
00:09:21
apparently sat on his and broke it I is
00:09:23
that why um do you think that's part of
00:09:24
the reason t e in the same episode that
00:09:27
you get eliminated he sort of TAPS out
00:09:29
El out was it the sleeping Arrangement
00:09:32
no apparently he was he was hard ass he
00:09:34
he was actually sleeping on the on the
00:09:36
floor right yeah so no I I he wasn't on
00:09:39
my team so I didn't actually get to know
00:09:41
him particularly well uh and that was
00:09:43
the downside to leaving so reasonably
00:09:45
early as I was starting to get to know
00:09:48
my people but I never made the merge so
00:09:50
I never got to to see much of the others
00:09:53
do you think um part of it like deciding
00:09:55
to let you go rather than stick to his
00:09:57
word do you think part of that is like
00:09:58
agism
00:10:00
well that's a really good question I
00:10:02
don't know as the short answer and
00:10:05
you're you're 59 you're 6 next year but
00:10:07
you're um you're incredibly fit and
00:10:09
you're in great shape uh well actually I
00:10:12
really was that noise for no no I really
00:10:14
overrated my physicality because of
00:10:16
course I I rotate around people about my
00:10:19
age right and yeah you fit for age I
00:10:22
probably but but but I'm pathetic up
00:10:25
against these young fast strong flexible
00:10:28
gorgeous things um who are just starting
00:10:31
out in life but I thought no no no I can
00:10:33
take them on I'll be sweet I'll be good
00:10:35
I've got endurance man I might not have
00:10:36
speed but man I got endurance and I've
00:10:39
got strength man I can push this weight
00:10:41
and that weight and I'll be sweet Mary
00:10:44
get a grip I was terrible like I mean I
00:10:47
can hold my own to a degree but and I'm
00:10:49
not dumping on someone who's 59 but but
00:10:52
no no it's hard out there in physical
00:10:54
land I feel like I mean we've only been
00:10:55
going 10 minutes and you you've made a
00:10:57
few like a a few
00:10:59
comments about yourself and I don't know
00:11:00
if they're self-deprecating or this this
00:11:03
therapy it's this therapy no well you
00:11:05
said you made a comment before you said
00:11:06
I'm I'm like a 100 years old and you
00:11:08
said then there's a comment about food
00:11:09
and you you know you put to your body is
00:11:13
that self-deprecating or no no no no I'm
00:11:15
I'm a realist I mean I could easily take
00:11:18
off 10kgs in fact I think it be in a I'd
00:11:20
be in my best interest to um so I accept
00:11:24
that so when I say the food didn't
00:11:26
bother me you look at me and think oh
00:11:27
well here's a girl who's about 10 over
00:11:30
she could actually deal with I wouldn't
00:11:31
think that at all I think you look I
00:11:33
think you look fabulous for your age you
00:11:34
look F and healthy and vibrant well yeah
00:11:37
SI to my eyes and you're um you're an
00:11:39
exerciser too like you do Adventure
00:11:41
races yeah do I've read an interview
00:11:43
with you and you said you saw I mean
00:11:45
this feels like one of those things you
00:11:46
say but you never can actually do you
00:11:48
saw Richie mcco do one of those God Zone
00:11:49
races and you like I want to do that and
00:11:51
they bloody canceled it they've canceled
00:11:53
it this year because what I thought I
00:11:54
would do is go down and volunteer um at
00:11:57
God's Own and buger me a couple of weeks
00:11:59
ago I found out that the bureaucracy and
00:12:02
the cost of the bureaucracy of staging
00:12:05
something as awesome and gods own has
00:12:07
just got so
00:12:09
expensive that they know can do and it
00:12:12
just pisses me off you know you got to
00:12:14
be cones here stop a road here put a
00:12:16
dude there put a sign there D and I
00:12:18
think oh chill man just let them run
00:12:20
from that tree to that tree and put a
00:12:22
bit of health and safety and but just
00:12:24
relax these are adults they know what
00:12:26
they're getting in for and I think the
00:12:28
fact that has got to a point where
00:12:30
awesome and authentic races like God
00:12:33
zone are up on the chopping block cuz
00:12:35
they simply can't afford all the
00:12:37
[ __ ] all the the paperwork and all
00:12:40
the nonsense required to Stage them
00:12:42
under all the regulations that there are
00:12:45
and I was really disappointed because I
00:12:47
thought if I go and
00:12:48
volunteer and then maybe next year
00:12:50
because I've had a few mates do it I
00:12:52
thought yeah I'd be a starter actually
00:12:53
for that yeah I thought I'd just start
00:12:55
soft and volley first so what what do
00:12:57
you do for fitness these days youve done
00:12:58
a bunch of marathons right you've done
00:13:01
London yeah but Susan deoy actually um
00:13:03
she was responsible for me doing the
00:13:05
third rotor Marathon that I did and she
00:13:08
red me up one day this was about 10
00:13:10
years ago or whenever and she said mate
00:13:13
you need Susan on the show have you had
00:13:14
her I would love to have D no no she's
00:13:16
cool man she's awesome and she mate I
00:13:20
mate she said what are you doing next
00:13:23
week or whatever I said I don't know she
00:13:25
said come and walk the um R marathon
00:13:28
with me I went yeah how hard can it be
00:13:30
42k walk I said awesome idea yep I'll be
00:13:34
there and so I get down to we're on the
00:13:36
start line she said mate I said mate
00:13:39
here we are and she heads out man first
00:13:41
10ks no problem and then I'm really in
00:13:44
struggle straight I think this walking
00:13:45
Malik is hard we get to the back of the
00:13:47
pdic you would have done real real a few
00:13:49
times have you no I've never done it
00:13:50
never done it it's iconic though when I
00:13:52
was growing up I was in a you running
00:13:54
family and Mom and Dad used it was
00:13:55
called the Fletch marathon back then and
00:13:57
they used to run it every year but it
00:13:58
seems oh but you get though right the
00:14:01
know that's brutal man and um so we're
00:14:02
at the back of the paddock right so
00:14:04
about the halfway point and her phone
00:14:06
rings and it's one of her 300 children
00:14:09
saying Mom Mom Mom something about
00:14:11
you've got to pick me up because Dad
00:14:13
can't and she hangs up and she goes mate
00:14:16
and I go mate she said we got to
00:14:20
run so she says to me at the 25k Mark
00:14:24
we're running to the end I mean this is
00:14:26
an individual who had not trained for
00:14:28
this so that was my last experience on
00:14:31
it was awesome as we came down cuz we're
00:14:33
exactly the same age right she sprinted
00:14:35
down the the shoot and she was really
00:14:38
good she sort of slowed down for me and
00:14:40
we but we eventually got to the Finish
00:14:41
Line she sprinted down Sho didn't care
00:14:43
about the metal she just jumped over
00:14:46
into her car off to get her kid she is a
00:14:49
legend man how did you guys become
00:14:51
friends we probably just met through I
00:14:54
think good morning similar age and just
00:14:56
up has across at various dos and things
00:14:59
and I you know I just like her you I
00:15:01
sort of gravitate towards that sort of
00:15:02
honesty and she's fit and she's at the
00:15:05
top of her game you know back in the day
00:15:07
I and she was on um CB Island wasn't she
00:15:10
yeah I was I was going to ask you that
00:15:11
next like did you consult her yeah did
00:15:13
you you did oh yeah yeah she was she was
00:15:16
really insightful she was great right
00:15:18
cuz she she threw a tantrum on it like
00:15:19
she like plunked herself down in the
00:15:21
sand in one of the episodes and like had
00:15:22
a like a full growing like total attend
00:15:25
it was amazing TV but she's um she was
00:15:28
really good she said you know play your
00:15:31
own game I cuz I I just don't have the
00:15:34
the bandwith I can't stand that word I
00:15:36
just don't have the capacity to play all
00:15:38
the [ __ ] you know Alliance this and
00:15:40
Alliance that and talking to that person
00:15:41
not that I just wanted to just get
00:15:43
through every single day and be an
00:15:45
honest player and I think she she was
00:15:47
sort of of a similar variety she said no
00:15:50
you know it's complicated enough without
00:15:51
having to get into those weeds and she
00:15:53
sort of advised me on what to take cuz I
00:15:55
snuck a whole lot of stuff in I snuck
00:15:57
like what like food supplies no no no I
00:15:59
snuck in um lots of earplugs so I had
00:16:02
ear plugs for everyone I snuck in a
00:16:05
pillowcase cuz you're not allowed to
00:16:06
pillow and I took an extra puffer which
00:16:08
they let me through with but that could
00:16:09
create a pillow um I snuck in salt God
00:16:13
rice without salt is a terrible thing a
00:16:15
few spices you know just s of bits and
00:16:17
Bobs yeah yeah could it's very MSY
00:16:21
spices but I could not believe they
00:16:23
didn't find them because it really was
00:16:25
like going through an airport when they
00:16:26
were checking our stuff and and I had
00:16:29
some stuff confiscated like my big ey
00:16:31
shadow pack cuz like it's television
00:16:34
mate standards oh I was going to ask you
00:16:35
about the makeup thing because the um
00:16:37
the the scenes i' I've seen it didn't
00:16:39
look like you were you were wearing
00:16:40
makeup and I I thought probably 70% of
00:16:44
the time I was yeah yeah right and yeah
00:16:48
did did many people like sort of wear
00:16:49
makeup or it's one of those things you
00:16:52
want to look good on on tell don't you
00:16:54
but also there's a lot of downtime
00:16:55
there's tons and tons of downtime and um
00:16:58
uh so what else do you do but well you
00:17:00
go for a swim you walk in the woods you
00:17:03
you know put your face on yeah I don't
00:17:05
know we just did it just to kill a bit
00:17:06
of time yeah so that's um celebrity
00:17:08
Treasure Island uh who who who will you
00:17:10
remain like actual friends with do you
00:17:12
think oh I think there's probably a
00:17:13
hardcore midy was great um Blair's
00:17:17
fantastic uh you know some of those
00:17:19
young comedians are absolutely awesome
00:17:21
yeah you no no there's it'll be good you
00:17:24
know I I feel with most of them or
00:17:29
yeah so okay let's go let's go right
00:17:31
back so why did you decide to become a
00:17:33
journalist young Mary you're at school
00:17:35
what what did your parents do um well
00:17:38
one's a teacher and one's a nurse
00:17:40
they're both actually my father just
00:17:41
died about a month ago actually I'm Sor
00:17:43
toar oh oh thank you no no he was in
00:17:46
terrible condition as and I and I mean
00:17:48
that in the sense that uh he it's a
00:17:51
really terrible thing to watch a parent
00:17:53
who was fit and active and serly really
00:17:56
you know in tune and everything just
00:17:58
deteriorate I are your parents alive
00:18:00
yeah they thank um how old was your dad
00:18:03
in his 80s oh yeah yeah yeah he was
00:18:05
about he was a month off turning 86 yeah
00:18:09
yeah you my my parents are both uh both
00:18:11
alive mom's 71 she still runs marathons
00:18:12
she's going to be around for a long time
00:18:13
Dad's in his late 70s he's in he's in
00:18:15
Wellington he's he's had no Health
00:18:17
complications but I'm um I know that
00:18:20
that I need to be more tolerant with
00:18:22
them and spend more time with them do
00:18:24
make that time up because um oh so he
00:18:26
was based in CR because mom died about s
00:18:28
eight years ago and since her death his
00:18:31
deterioration has been pretty obvious
00:18:33
and then we moved him into this kind of
00:18:36
sumerset thing and I don't know it just
00:18:38
sort of felt like a bit of a holding pen
00:18:40
and it was awful and then he got really
00:18:41
C and and those that last month was
00:18:44
actually terrible and so people say oh
00:18:47
so physically or mentally or both no I
00:18:50
think he was on a bit of a mental declay
00:18:52
he was just depressed he just he was so
00:18:55
he was in such pain his body was really
00:18:58
shutting down and um he he was depressed
00:19:01
because I'm who wouldn't be actually
00:19:02
under those conditions and I don't know
00:19:04
those places just seem like little
00:19:07
rabbit Huts all sort of Stack together I
00:19:09
don't know I found the whole thing all a
00:19:10
bit depressing too to be fair but anyway
00:19:12
he um he died and and I just as sad and
00:19:18
and as sort of you know that that's it
00:19:20
that's that generation gone um I'm
00:19:23
really glad he's out of that pain and
00:19:24
misery yeah it's a funny kind of weird
00:19:26
thing on your head you missed them and
00:19:28
you know sometimes I'll go to pick up
00:19:29
the phone to give them a bell and and
00:19:32
then I thought oh of course he's not
00:19:33
there but I do have three siblings so
00:19:35
I'm the third of fourth and my sister
00:19:38
was my old big sister was fantastic with
00:19:40
him my Andrew my my brother Andrew is
00:19:42
down there his boots on the ground so he
00:19:43
was there and my other brother Dave
00:19:45
who's in Wellington he um he you know he
00:19:47
and I between us you know used to go
00:19:49
down quite a bit and see him so yeah
00:19:51
still leaves a big hole though I oh yeah
00:19:53
yeah yeah it's s a crazy hole really but
00:19:54
we're tight you know as siblings um
00:19:57
we're pretty tight like we're not in
00:19:58
each other's Pockets but there are 12
00:20:01
grandchildren so we've all had a bunch
00:20:03
of kids and we try and get together and
00:20:05
it's it's good but the four of us
00:20:08
actually dealt with the estate because
00:20:10
one brother's an accountant so he sorted
00:20:12
all that so we didn't have all of that
00:20:13
drw to scrap out um you know it's all
00:20:17
been fairly straightforward and yeah as
00:20:19
I say we're we're tight and I really
00:20:20
feel for those that are in family
00:20:22
situations where there's a rogue sibling
00:20:26
and it all just turns nasty
00:20:28
it must be awful CU it's hard enough as
00:20:30
it is of course so teacher and a nurse
00:20:34
so you tell them you want to become a
00:20:36
journalist uh supportive um well I left
00:20:39
University and I decided I was going to
00:20:40
be a lawyer and so I went straight from
00:20:43
school because I went to boarding school
00:20:44
down in Christ Church and I did a first
00:20:46
year of law at Canterbury and I actually
00:20:50
couldn't stand it I found it really hard
00:20:52
really dry it was just grafted and I
00:20:55
didn't connect with it I didn't know any
00:20:56
lawyers the family didn't know many
00:20:58
lawyers I just sort of had no
00:21:00
relationship I just thought it sounded
00:21:01
flash to be you know go off and be a
00:21:02
lawyer so I stopped that I went back to
00:21:05
Wellington where Mom and Dad based lived
00:21:07
at home for a bit finished off a ba and
00:21:10
then it was really only in the tail end
00:21:12
of that ba that I thought I started
00:21:14
working at student radio and there was
00:21:15
something about the broadcasting I
00:21:16
really liked I didn't really even know
00:21:17
what journalism was and then I said to
00:21:19
my parents look there's a journalism
00:21:21
course up in ockland I'm I go and do
00:21:22
that what's Journal well no no no
00:21:24
they're not as stupid people they knew
00:21:25
what it was but I don't think the career
00:21:27
path of it was as obvious all those
00:21:29
years ago and once I got into the
00:21:31
journalism School here in
00:21:33
Oakland man I thought I have found home
00:21:37
yeah like your tribe your people oh my
00:21:39
people and the work and I loved it I
00:21:44
actually loved it I would get out of bed
00:21:47
you know at
00:21:48
all happy as it wasn't oh god I've got
00:21:51
to get to that lecture all that lecture
00:21:53
I just thought yay I'm going to
00:21:55
journalism today and so I just it took
00:21:57
me a while so if you're panicked about
00:21:59
oh what are your kids going to do or if
00:22:00
you're a kid and you're thinking what am
00:22:02
I going to do and my kids are at that
00:22:03
stage now I think just give it some time
00:22:05
man just give it some time it'll it'll
00:22:07
it'll arrive fall into place yeah yeah
00:22:09
so then and then what's your first job
00:22:11
you into print or radio no well
00:22:13
fortunately um of the 16 of us that got
00:22:15
into the ATI course back in the day I
00:22:18
was the only one interested in broadcast
00:22:20
the rest all were more interested in
00:22:21
print so when they were trying to find
00:22:24
us work experience and things like that
00:22:27
I I sort of had the full choice because
00:22:29
no one wanted to go on to radio well I
00:22:31
was particularly keen on radio in those
00:22:32
days and so I got placements with radio
00:22:35
New Zealand and that when I finished the
00:22:36
course took me to Hamilton and then
00:22:38
tomar ranui and then Nelson and then
00:22:40
wongi so I did the full rnz Ticky tour
00:22:43
and then after a couple of years of that
00:22:45
I won a scholarship to go and work in
00:22:46
Japan so I went up to Japan and I worked
00:22:49
as Radio New Zealand's correspondent up
00:22:52
there and it was boom time you know the
00:22:53
economy was buzzing and it was all you
00:22:55
know big trading partner and all rest
00:22:57
and I also taught some English out there
00:23:00
wow and how did you end up on TV and
00:23:02
good well I came I came back after three
00:23:04
years of being up in Japan and I worked
00:23:05
for communicado uh with Neil Roberts and
00:23:08
some people might remember that name and
00:23:10
I worked on a few documentaries and uh
00:23:14
big big shows like New Zealand at War I
00:23:16
don't know that was pretty epic for the
00:23:18
time we put that together and then one
00:23:20
day I read in the paper because I think
00:23:23
we had newspapers back then that they
00:23:24
were looking for a host for a thing
00:23:26
called good morning and I thought and I
00:23:28
was just sort of reading the job
00:23:29
description I thought well that's a bit
00:23:30
of me I yeah maybe I could give that a
00:23:33
crack surely and I'd had a bit of TV
00:23:35
experience reading the news at local TV
00:23:37
ATV I think we called it then and had
00:23:39
doing some other sort of random bits and
00:23:41
Bobs and I rang them and they said nah
00:23:44
no we're not interested in you we don't
00:23:46
know who you are and go away and I
00:23:49
thought right let's just piss to here
00:23:52
because I really do think I I want to be
00:23:54
at least auditioned all I wanted to do
00:23:56
was be on the audition list and it was
00:23:57
the likes of Paula Ryan and Susie Aken
00:23:59
and Belinda Todd you know these were the
00:24:01
big the big names of the day yeah
00:24:03
massive names and um so I pested and
00:24:06
pested and I said please end of the day
00:24:08
end of the day five minutes that's all I
00:24:10
want it's all I you know just could you
00:24:12
give me a go and so they relented and
00:24:14
they said yes okay you can come in at
00:24:16
4:30 but it's just going to be 10
00:24:17
minutes and you know they were just
00:24:20
ticking a box really and the night
00:24:22
before I was so stressed about it that I
00:24:25
went out on the tailes with a bunch of
00:24:27
friends that doesn't seem like the
00:24:29
greatest prep we had such a huge night
00:24:33
and I wost into that audition the next
00:24:35
day hung over my hair coming out every
00:24:40
direction looking terrible feeling worse
00:24:43
and as I got out of the lift Paula Ryan
00:24:46
was coming towards me and she was so
00:24:48
beautiful and quaffed and white suited
00:24:51
and her hair was mint and I thought what
00:24:54
the [ __ ] am I doing here and I sat down
00:24:59
hi yeah I'm the girl who's really pissed
00:25:01
you to be on this audition list and here
00:25:03
I am stinking your booze I think I had
00:25:07
had a show I know that much and the rest
00:25:09
is the say is history yeah you must have
00:25:11
naed it because you did that job um but
00:25:13
there be a lot of people listening or
00:25:14
watching to this that won't even
00:25:15
remember good morning because um no was
00:25:17
that long ago because I was I left when
00:25:19
um I was pregnant with the twins and
00:25:21
there 2003 you were on from 1997 to 2003
00:25:24
yes I did seven years didn't I yeah yeah
00:25:26
it's crazy crazy I I remember um I
00:25:29
remember watching it me me and JJ we
00:25:31
we'd do breakfast radio then we'd go
00:25:32
home and we'd turn the TV on and it was
00:25:34
almost like um at the time that you were
00:25:37
on it a lot of it was almost like talk
00:25:38
back radio but on TV like you'd have
00:25:40
calls so you'd be sitting there and
00:25:43
watching you'd be talking to people on
00:25:44
the phone and you you you you didn't
00:25:46
have a very good poker
00:25:48
face so you'd be like screwing your it
00:25:51
was just it was fantastic to watch and
00:25:53
see your facials as you were talking to
00:25:54
talking to crazy people on the phone on
00:25:56
TV and and uh you couldn't hide your
00:25:59
disdain a lot of time or you disag to is
00:26:02
a terrible format for television because
00:26:04
what are your visuals like the
00:26:06
presenter's face boring and back in
00:26:08
those days we used to have faxes so no
00:26:10
emails would come in and so I had to
00:26:12
often get out of my chair and go over to
00:26:14
the fax machine which was part of the SE
00:26:16
pull off the faxes and try and decipher
00:26:19
these handwritten moronic faxes and and
00:26:23
it would go and every time the fax
00:26:24
machine send a fax it would go beep beep
00:26:27
beep be I me surely there is a button we
00:26:30
can push that can shut that thing up but
00:26:33
um we had a ton of fun on good morning
00:26:34
it great I feel like it got really
00:26:36
fluffy after you left um they went
00:26:38
through a whole lot of hosts like Steven
00:26:39
Gray
00:26:41
and and Hayden Jones did he do it I
00:26:45
don't know I kind of lost track with it
00:26:46
because like you were you were the sort
00:26:48
of stability of it for in the last
00:26:51
Millennium by to the fact that I was
00:26:52
there so long um when they rang me to
00:26:56
say hey guess what not we're moving the
00:26:59
show down to
00:27:00
Avalon and I said oh and so pack your
00:27:04
back we're off to Avalon I went I'm not
00:27:06
going to Avalon um and that afternoon I
00:27:09
found out I was pregnant with twins and
00:27:11
we already had a one-year-old and I said
00:27:13
I am most definitely going to evalon and
00:27:15
so I ran the back and I said I'm not I'm
00:27:17
not doing it I'm done uh and I think
00:27:19
moving it to evalon is a really stupid
00:27:21
idea and I think it's a stupid idea
00:27:22
because we were in struggle streak
00:27:24
getting Talent sometimes being in
00:27:26
central or
00:27:28
Avalon is a milon miles away from
00:27:30
airport and I remember on the first day
00:27:32
of the year that I was not doing it
00:27:35
poorly sanning she she got the gig there
00:27:38
was fog and there was all sorts of upset
00:27:39
in terms of getting people out to Avalon
00:27:41
because it is it's a million miles away
00:27:43
50ks or 40ks or something and so that
00:27:46
poor woman had to sit there and
00:27:47
basically ad Li for two hours because no
00:27:49
bastard could get in and be on the show
00:27:51
oh it's terrible so I thought oh well
00:27:53
made my point but anyway it's so oh yeah
00:27:56
the host before you was Liz gun that's
00:27:58
right are you friends with the do you
00:28:00
know what cuz she's like a conspiracy
00:28:02
theorist now like she she went a little
00:28:04
bit off the rails during the the
00:28:07
pandemic yeah haven't clapped eyes on
00:28:09
her okay no no no we were never M I
00:28:11
think she did breakfast and we she had a
00:28:12
dressing room for a bit um no no no no
00:28:15
no we were not Kindred Spirits at
00:28:17
all okay no further questions okay
00:28:21
um keep asking the questions but I've
00:28:23
got nothing no no no um I thought there
00:28:25
might be a story there or a threat um
00:28:27
yeah you used to bring your cat into the
00:28:28
show as well I did Lou Lou Louie Louie
00:28:32
was that not a genius idea it was great
00:28:34
yeah it was great because some people
00:28:36
thought God is this woman the mad catom
00:28:39
but I just thought it would be a nice
00:28:40
sort of homely thing to do it was a pain
00:28:42
in the ass bringing him
00:28:44
in we got to go to work
00:28:47
now and I get him into the crate and
00:28:49
then of course I had to set up the whole
00:28:50
litter box and everything and the
00:28:52
producer didn't really like it as a
00:28:54
thing the lighting guys hated it because
00:28:55
he used to run behind the site and and
00:28:57
sit on all the lights and you know
00:28:59
potentially bust the lights and then I
00:29:01
was having a very serious convo with
00:29:03
someone and Louie jumped on the Pino
00:29:05
which was set up on the other side of
00:29:07
the studio for a band segment that we
00:29:10
were going to have in the show and I'm
00:29:11
in this deep convo with someone and all
00:29:13
I hear
00:29:15
isong as he's walking AC that's amazing
00:29:19
that's so good but I thought it was I
00:29:21
like the looseness of it yeah could to
00:29:23
keep it loose and as I kind of relaxed
00:29:24
into it and and started to sort of call
00:29:27
it own I said okay I won't bring them in
00:29:29
every day but let me just bring them in
00:29:30
a couple of days and isn't it
00:29:31
interesting 20 years down the track
00:29:33
people still remember I brought the K it
00:29:36
was great I think it was great great TV
00:29:38
so you sort of left on your own your own
00:29:40
terms yeah because you didn't want to go
00:29:41
to Wellington didn't want but also I was
00:29:43
pregnant with twins and it was hard
00:29:44
enough actually doing it with a
00:29:45
one-year-old because two hours well
00:29:47
you'll know this two hours of TV every
00:29:49
single day by
00:29:51
yourself it's a it's a lot of content
00:29:53
it's a lot of know I had a fantastic
00:29:55
team around me but at the end of the day
00:29:56
it fell on me it was my name on the
00:29:58
Marquee and um it was a just an absolute
00:30:00
[ __ ] ton of work and which I'm really
00:30:02
grateful for the experience I could not
00:30:03
have done it with three kids under 18
00:30:06
months yeah yeah um you can tell me to
00:30:08
piss off with this question if you want
00:30:09
but um were were your kids conceived
00:30:12
naturally or fertility treat they were
00:30:13
yeah and all of my siblings have got
00:30:15
twins yeah wow it's just a jean thing so
00:30:18
that that's my that's my whole vibe is
00:30:19
we've got my sister's got boy girl twins
00:30:22
my brother's got boy girl twins
00:30:24
everyone's got Singletons in the mix
00:30:25
we've got a cousin with twin TS we've
00:30:28
got twins everywhere and uh so there's
00:30:30
three sets of twins out of our four
00:30:31
siblings and which makes up the 12
00:30:34
pretty quickly because we went from n to
00:30:36
12 pretty quick and no no no was good
00:30:39
yeah yeah a lot of children and but to
00:30:42
be a twin is not that special in our fan
00:30:45
because
00:30:46
they doesn't yeah big deal yeah big deal
00:30:49
big deal big deal um yeah your your
00:30:52
husband Jim you guys are still together
00:30:54
right yeah we are yeah is that all right
00:30:56
yeah you me oh I think in in this day
00:30:59
and age like the divorce rate is like
00:31:00
50% or something so I think that's
00:31:02
really special yeah but can I actually
00:31:03
say on that that I'm really impressed
00:31:05
with your relationship with
00:31:06
JJ that blows me away and where was I or
00:31:10
maybe now that I can see was I reading
00:31:12
something while waiting in the
00:31:13
supermarket queue and you went
00:31:15
holidaying with your respective Partners
00:31:17
but together what is that like yeah we
00:31:20
went to this was uh like December
00:31:22
December last year January this year we
00:31:23
went to Barley the four of us yeah I
00:31:24
know um it was really good like um yeah
00:31:27
we've got a yeah we it's a it's a great
00:31:30
relationship it's a relationship I
00:31:31
cherish so much there was just I I I
00:31:33
went through some mental health stuff
00:31:35
and I I um yeah there was a time there
00:31:37
where I thought oh God it'd be just it'd
00:31:39
be better off if I just wasn't here I
00:31:41
had no value to anyone's life and you
00:31:43
know when when when people are depressed
00:31:45
and they think that of course it's not
00:31:46
true it's a silly way to think um but I
00:31:49
but I thought that and anyway I got
00:31:50
through that dark period and then I
00:31:51
thought I just need to make an effort to
00:31:53
make sure I feel in my heart I'm adding
00:31:56
more value to other people people's
00:31:57
lives so I I do anything I can for JJ
00:32:00
and she does so much for me as well
00:32:02
that's a relationship I cherish oh which
00:32:03
is absolutely awesome and you know you
00:32:06
can be held up as an absolute example of
00:32:08
how to um to do divorce you're divorced
00:32:12
aren't you um oh no we're still we're
00:32:14
still yeah we're
00:32:15
still but we've been separated for like
00:32:17
five years but is it a little weird
00:32:19
going on holiday together and with
00:32:20
respected Partners no it wasn't weird on
00:32:23
the on the flight back I thought
00:32:24
actually that could have been it could
00:32:26
have been a recipe for disaster cuz you
00:32:27
know we were having some bin tangs and
00:32:29
there were Co you know there was alcohol
00:32:31
involved um but there was nothing weird
00:32:33
about it at all it was just um yeah yeah
00:32:35
very yeah she's respectful of my new
00:32:36
partner I really like her boyfriend and
00:32:39
it was good the what the main question
00:32:41
youone asked which is really weird it's
00:32:43
like oh what was the sleeping
00:32:44
Arrangement and it's like what do you
00:32:45
[ __ ] think like we had a we had a
00:32:47
villain with two bedrooms yeah yeah
00:32:50
there was no like beard hopping or
00:32:51
nothing kinky going on or anything like
00:32:53
that yeah then I didn't even go to that
00:32:55
cuz you know I'm old school I just I
00:32:57
just am really impressed with the way
00:32:59
you've managed that yeah well thank you
00:33:00
um yeah so so you and Jim did you meet
00:33:02
at journalism School no no God no no we
00:33:05
met here sorry I'm pointing to TV and Z
00:33:07
up at the mother ship and he was working
00:33:09
on the home show and I had seen the home
00:33:12
show guys a real admirer of Paul Holmes
00:33:14
and then oh likewise like like he is the
00:33:17
man he is the man he he was just
00:33:19
absolutely the broadcaster that you want
00:33:21
to be were you petrified of him um no no
00:33:24
wasn't actually I what was I of him I
00:33:27
was admiring I was so admiring I'd sort
00:33:29
of if he was in makeup and I'd be in
00:33:30
makeup I'd even you know four five years
00:33:32
into knowing each other I would go it's
00:33:34
you
00:33:36
Paul Paul Paul [ __ ] homes Paul uh so
00:33:40
Jim was working on that show and I
00:33:43
remember watching the show a couple
00:33:44
times thinking C who's this Jim MOA he's
00:33:45
he's good man he can string a sentence
00:33:47
together he's good he's got kind of got
00:33:49
the the vibe and then we eventually
00:33:53
met there at the mother ship and we met
00:33:56
maybe about 3 months into my being on
00:33:58
good morning so I had no scandalous past
00:34:01
or anything it just we met and the rest
00:34:05
is the say's history so we're so so love
00:34:08
love at first sight uh yeah pretty much
00:34:11
we moved in together after about three
00:34:12
or four months wow yeah we were just up
00:34:13
the road here in pby yeah what's he
00:34:15
doing is he start Radio New National
00:34:17
program radio rnz and um doing the
00:34:19
Sunday show uh shoot what did I say show
00:34:22
and that is a big chunk of work because
00:34:25
you know the radio New Zealand audience
00:34:27
they want every te crossed and every eye
00:34:28
dotted the audience that is they don't
00:34:30
want any mistakes and he's a real SWAT
00:34:33
like he will read the books he won't
00:34:34
interview someone and just read the back
00:34:35
of the book and sort of make it up on
00:34:37
the Fly and he he takes it seriously he
00:34:39
works really bloody hard and that Sunday
00:34:41
show he comes on at eight and so it's
00:34:43
four hours he's got to do it's a lot of
00:34:45
talk I know it's only once a week but
00:34:47
there's a lot of prep that goes into
00:34:48
that yeah I can imagine and can I just
00:34:50
say I'm very sorry to hear Kim Hills
00:34:52
moving on or not moving on she's just
00:34:54
decid she's done she I would love to do
00:34:57
podcast she's intimidating she's awesome
00:35:00
do you know I just love the fact she's
00:35:02
you know she's fearless she doesn't give
00:35:04
a [ __ ] what anyone thinks you can get to
00:35:07
that age and Stage can't you but I I
00:35:10
feel like she's been she's been like
00:35:12
that even before she was at that age and
00:35:14
Stage she's always been like that hasn't
00:35:16
she I think she's fantastic yeah she's a
00:35:18
brilliant intervie she's got to do
00:35:19
something else right um I think she's
00:35:21
going to sort of stay on in some sort of
00:35:22
parttime capacity I don't know they
00:35:23
might use a Morning Report I have no
00:35:25
clue but I when I read it I didn't have
00:35:27
any special intel on this I read it like
00:35:29
everyone else and the herald or wherever
00:35:30
it was and I just thought wow now there
00:35:33
is a broadcasting
00:35:35
icon and so you and you and Jim you um
00:35:38
God you must have had your challenges
00:35:39
over the years like the you you don't
00:35:41
you don't have a three decade long or
00:35:44
two decade long relationship with
00:35:45
someone what are we up to 97 97 to what
00:35:48
equals what C 26 years oh my God is it
00:35:51
yeah like quarter of a century together
00:35:52
quarter of a century together three kids
00:35:54
including twins must have been some
00:35:56
tough times oh oh yeah yeah of course it
00:35:58
was really hard cuz when the twins came
00:35:59
along he was doing mucking in and he was
00:36:01
also doing some radio stuff and so he
00:36:04
was barely there as my point and it's
00:36:06
hard enough with three kids under two
00:36:08
and then you know not having your
00:36:10
partner around um but he was he's always
00:36:14
absolutely supportive like he is the man
00:36:17
he is as solid as a rock he you know any
00:36:21
problem and he's clever like he's like
00:36:24
really clever and he thinks things
00:36:26
through and he will always deliver a
00:36:29
very solid reason for why he has done or
00:36:32
is going to do something and he um so
00:36:35
yeah of course of course gee we've had
00:36:37
some massive arguments over the years
00:36:39
well name me a couple that has there
00:36:40
must be so I can imagine you two arguing
00:36:43
it must be very
00:36:45
intellectual I go you I hate the way you
00:36:49
stick the
00:36:50
dishwasher I know you two are arguing
00:36:53
for some reason I imagine it like a high
00:36:54
school debate like you get your 3
00:36:56
minutes they talk to me about debates
00:36:58
I'm up to you with debates uh yeah he's
00:37:01
no he's good he's reasoned and um but I
00:37:05
suppose as we both get older you know
00:37:07
you get stuck in your ways a bit more
00:37:08
and I can't stand the way he Stacks the
00:37:11
dishwasher I mean it's what do you mean
00:37:13
like knives down or knives up or uh oh
00:37:16
no no we got one of those ones where you
00:37:17
pull out the top thing and slide them
00:37:18
along no he it's just wasteful the way
00:37:21
he does
00:37:23
it oh go go move on I'm I'm I'm probably
00:37:27
the same as him like uh if I looked up
00:37:29
my model of dishwasher on YouTube
00:37:31
there's probably a tutorial that tells
00:37:32
you how to do it and it would be five
00:37:34
minutes of my time and it's probably an
00:37:35
eyee openening learning experience but
00:37:37
instead I just chucked the pots and put
00:37:39
the bowls in you put pots in the
00:37:40
dishwasher yeah you're not supposed to
00:37:42
no well I don't no it doesn't it stuff
00:37:43
their handles but anyway all depends on
00:37:46
the the handle variety but but the thing
00:37:49
is it takes up too much room that means
00:37:50
you don't get all those sort of shitty
00:37:52
plates them um but I think it's a very
00:37:55
interesting exercise going to people's
00:37:57
places and seeing how they stick the
00:37:58
dishwasher yeah yeah but you're enjoying
00:38:00
the experience of Aging with someone
00:38:02
like getting into this stage of your
00:38:04
life with someone yeah going through
00:38:05
these stuff yeah yeah um we just are
00:38:07
doing our own thing and
00:38:09
um we're in each other's Pockets but
00:38:11
we're not and don't forget we've got two
00:38:13
children still living at home and are
00:38:15
they the twins no no so we've got one
00:38:17
twin down in Canterbury she's doing
00:38:19
engineering because all she wants to do
00:38:21
is get into Formula 1 isn't it funny wow
00:38:24
I don't even know did she watch drive to
00:38:25
survive is bloody did she did after
00:38:30
after watching that I um I I Define
00:38:33
myself as 100% hetosexual but I want to
00:38:35
get into Formula 1 yeah I tell you she
00:38:37
Jesus what a goodlooking sport what is
00:38:38
really interesting about her and
00:38:40
Engineering like we we didn't care what
00:38:41
the any of the kids did we just you just
00:38:45
you know plant do whatever just as long
00:38:46
as you're you're good and you're happy
00:38:48
and don't feel you got to do anything
00:38:49
but anyway so she decides in the seventh
00:38:51
form uh that she which was only last
00:38:53
year that she wanted to go off and do
00:38:54
engineering I thought oh yeah fair
00:38:55
enough go yeah she you know Reas strong
00:38:57
with physics and stuff and I said why
00:39:00
what's your
00:39:01
driver
00:39:06
um so guess where we're going in June
00:39:08
guess where we're going to June oh where
00:39:10
is it Monaco Gold Coast no where where's
00:39:12
the Silverstone mate Silverstone where's
00:39:14
Silverstone UK UK wow yeah so we're
00:39:16
going you know family because it's
00:39:18
always a job lot of mom and dad are
00:39:19
paying isn't it and so we're all
00:39:21
climbing into the plane and we're going
00:39:22
up to Silverstone I've got a really good
00:39:24
mate in the UK who only lives an hour
00:39:25
down the road
00:39:27
and so we're going to have the full F1
00:39:28
experience now to be fair for me it's
00:39:30
just cars going around and around in
00:39:32
circles but she's donkey deep in it and
00:39:33
Jim's pretty into it and Jack who's
00:39:36
Elizabeth's twin uh he's doing a
00:39:37
Commerce degree here in Oakland he um
00:39:39
he's he's pretty pit heady too uh so at
00:39:43
least you know three out of the five of
00:39:45
us are into it yeah um you you mentioned
00:39:48
before um when I mentioned you and Jim
00:39:51
arguing and how it must be like a debate
00:39:53
you said don't get me started on debates
00:39:55
um now when when this podcast comes out
00:39:58
um all the election debates will be over
00:40:01
with um at this stage there's only been
00:40:03
the one that was on TV one with Jessica
00:40:06
match McKai did you watch it I sure did
00:40:09
I um I I thought um Chris luxon did a
00:40:11
fantastic job he sure did yeah I so
00:40:14
proud of him but I said to my partner
00:40:16
afterwards I said I said because she was
00:40:18
like oh you know um Lux LX and pissed
00:40:21
all over Hipkins I said yeah but if if
00:40:23
you're a staunched lab labor voter you
00:40:25
probably think it's the opposite way
00:40:26
around I think you can read those things
00:40:28
anyway you want I think your natural
00:40:30
biases come into it and you want a
00:40:31
really Champion for your guy yeah so I I
00:40:34
bring this up so you're working with um
00:40:36
Christopher yeah I'm just at one Cog in
00:40:38
the wheel he's got a fantastic team a
00:40:39
really solid team he is um he's a very
00:40:44
very nice man to work with he's
00:40:46
respectful he's receptive to ideas he
00:40:49
works like a Trojan I mean we know what
00:40:52
it's like to put Graft in well times are
00:40:54
roughly what you and I Do by 10 and
00:40:56
that's his average day and I thought he
00:40:59
performed exceptionally well never ever
00:41:01
lose sight of the fact he's very new to
00:41:03
this game like he's five minutes in
00:41:05
politics compared to the rest of the
00:41:07
career politicians sitting in the labor
00:41:09
lot and you know it's a hard game
00:41:12
politics man it's a brutal brutal game
00:41:14
so so what's what's your job we can
00:41:17
focus this on you rather than um
00:41:19
Christopher lexon but like is it media
00:41:21
training is that what you'd call it I
00:41:23
would call it yes I think just tapping
00:41:26
into some of the experience that I've
00:41:27
had in TV and maybe some of the things
00:41:29
that we say and we do and we look and we
00:41:32
Express and the language that we use and
00:41:36
but don't forget as I say he's got a
00:41:38
really strong team around him you know
00:41:40
their policy people and their coms
00:41:42
people they're really awesome and so I'm
00:41:44
probably the Cog and the chain that says
00:41:46
well probably in a TV environment I do
00:41:48
this look here do this the that take
00:41:51
that out maybe use that language not
00:41:52
that Lang you know it's it's that sort
00:41:54
of stuff but I'm ining around the edges
00:41:57
with a little bit of pieces does he does
00:41:58
he need he need to cut cut back on
00:42:00
saying look so much let's be clear let's
00:42:03
be C is that I look the other day look
00:42:07
he Trimm that back enormously I was very
00:42:08
proud of him it's really hard actually
00:42:10
when you get into a bit of a thing you
00:42:12
know you get little catch catch czes
00:42:15
catch phrases and and then you stick
00:42:18
with them for six months and then you
00:42:19
move on to something else and he he but
00:42:22
he got rid of that pretty quickly
00:42:23
actually once it was identified but no
00:42:25
he as I say he's very re super receptive
00:42:30
super receptive it's not like you'll go
00:42:31
that's a really stupid idea or no no he
00:42:33
is not that guy and he reads and he
00:42:35
works and he barely sleeps yeah you get
00:42:38
out of David I should listen to that one
00:42:39
what did you learn about him oh he had
00:42:41
some fabulous stories like he he lost
00:42:43
his mom uh at quite a young age like in
00:42:45
his late tens early 20s oh yeah um she
00:42:48
was she was sick with cancer so she had
00:42:50
like um a a bit of a a bit of a bit of a
00:42:52
leadup like she knew she was going to
00:42:53
die um so she she recorded like a DV for
00:42:56
all her sons with just a basically like
00:42:58
a a message to give to their their
00:43:01
Partners when they when they meet the
00:43:02
person they're going to marry and he's
00:43:04
never watched it oh wow I'm like surely
00:43:06
you must have had a curiosity he's like
00:43:07
no it's it's not for me it's for the
00:43:09
person that I marry so I'm like what is
00:43:12
it like an instruction manual he's like
00:43:13
I don't know I'm like you must have
00:43:14
talked to your brothers about it because
00:43:15
surely there's a similar he goes no we
00:43:17
we we've never discussed that good Lord
00:43:19
so I just um I don't know I feel that
00:43:20
the chat with him sort of humanized him
00:43:22
AIT lot people Rob yeah from a
00:43:26
perspective I mean he's he's gold isn't
00:43:28
he he always comes out with those lovely
00:43:30
sound yeah real zingers do you know that
00:43:33
he and Lux actually lived literally next
00:43:35
door to each other did he tell that
00:43:36
story no yeah yeah literally there's a
00:43:38
hitch between them this was back in the
00:43:40
day and so they know each other as first
00:43:43
and foremost neighbors so when
00:43:44
Christopher was at in New Zealand David
00:43:46
was literally in the house next door wow
00:43:49
small well small world we live in a now
00:43:51
they're going have officers next to each
00:43:52
other maybe maybe let's not get ahead of
00:43:55
ourselves um did you you're a great
00:43:58
communicator e and you're you're
00:43:59
fabulous on the mic did do do you want
00:44:02
to do more front-facing stuff yourself
00:44:04
I'm thinking why aren't you on zp
00:44:08
or you know you know you're very very
00:44:11
good oh that's very kind I
00:44:13
certainly yeah it my choice or oh have
00:44:18
they rug me and I said come no no they
00:44:20
haven't have I done ZB work before yes I
00:44:22
have have I done talk back before yes I
00:44:24
have uh do I find a little little
00:44:26
dispiriting yes I
00:44:28
do uh I don't know sometimes the when
00:44:32
you've got a bit of profile and like
00:44:34
this silly viin thing has has sort of RA
00:44:38
it just the public scrutiny stuff I mean
00:44:40
I'm not suggesting I'm coming out under
00:44:41
major scrutiny but you would not have
00:44:43
invited me on here if I hadn't been on
00:44:46
that show right and I don't know I I get
00:44:49
kind of older and wiser I think really
00:44:51
do I want to walk down the street and go
00:44:53
um there's Mary there's Mary and it
00:44:55
still does happen a little bit and some
00:44:57
people think I'm still on maternity
00:44:58
leave from good
00:45:00
morning
00:45:01
like gation how long are those they they
00:45:06
you know five years I go no mate they've
00:45:09
all left school but uh I don't know it's
00:45:12
just nice the way you can have a bit of
00:45:13
anonymity when you are when you're not
00:45:16
actually doing that front facing stuff I
00:45:19
mean what's it like for you when you go
00:45:20
out running and things people stop and
00:45:21
go mate Dom go Tom tell me about
00:45:24
everything Tom well a little bit but um
00:45:27
when it's uh about this podcast and the
00:45:29
conversations I'm having on the podcast
00:45:30
I actually really like it because it
00:45:31
means you've made that connection with
00:45:33
people um but it's not it's not a level
00:45:35
of Fame where it's you you know I'm not
00:45:37
Israel adna put it that way so it's like
00:45:40
it's nice it happens a little bit but
00:45:42
not not enough for it to be annoying I
00:45:44
think it would be really and it's been
00:45:46
interesting the thing working with
00:45:47
Christopher lexon is um that he has gone
00:45:50
from not being recognized at all and he
00:45:52
could have walked down the street to now
00:45:53
actually having security around him m so
00:45:56
as the leader of the opposition and in
00:45:58
within the um election campaign time
00:46:00
that's that's what happens they they get
00:46:02
their own security and everywhere he
00:46:05
goes he is recognized like everywhere he
00:46:07
goes and sometimes I look that and think
00:46:09
would I want to go back to that I don't
00:46:11
think so oh since you're back on LX um
00:46:14
there was one thing that happened a
00:46:16
couple of months I didn't intend to but
00:46:17
I wanted to make that comp that
00:46:18
comparison that it's it's another layer
00:46:21
actually when you're complely it doesn't
00:46:23
matter where you are and what you do
00:46:24
you're being scrutinized
00:46:26
people recogniz you so there was a thing
00:46:28
where he was doing um some sort of
00:46:30
speech in front of the cameras and there
00:46:31
was like ackler from one of the other
00:46:33
parties over the fence oh yeah I called
00:46:35
that the killroy killroy was here did um
00:46:39
luxon looked flustered at that did did
00:46:41
you did you I've not spoken to him about
00:46:43
it okay no no I haven't spoken to him
00:46:45
about that cuz everything moves so
00:46:48
quickly and this once it's gone it's
00:46:50
gone it's gone and moving on to the next
00:46:52
thing everything is just and that's why
00:46:54
I was late today because you know things
00:46:55
just move and what's required moves
00:46:58
really really quickly this time yeah
00:47:00
geez we've been going for 50 minutes we
00:47:01
haven't got to your Subway stuff yet
00:47:02
have you you got a little bit more time
00:47:04
um I have something I have to be at how
00:47:08
many more minutes have you got I I I
00:47:11
don't want to say a checky 10 okay cool
00:47:13
okay so so you you leave good morning um
00:47:15
you have your twins yes I do and then
00:47:18
how old are the twins when you buy into
00:47:19
a Subway franchise they
00:47:22
were five five okay so you have six
00:47:25
maternity leave home time with the kids
00:47:27
which it wasn't even maternity leave I
00:47:28
mean you know I miss all of that you
00:47:31
know good stuff uh I just saw at home I
00:47:34
did a few columns actually is sort of
00:47:36
how I kept um kept my hand in and then
00:47:39
got them the twins off to school which
00:47:40
means Rebecca Grace would have been
00:47:42
seven years so five and I I was really
00:47:46
interested in supermarkets actually
00:47:47
because I had a really good friend who
00:47:49
owns a supermarket and I thought gosh
00:47:50
that'd be a bit of meat just get right
00:47:52
out of broadcasting would it be cool
00:47:53
just to get into a bit of Hardcore ret
00:47:55
retail I'd love to do that and then he
00:47:59
said go away and get some small retail
00:48:01
experience and just see if it's your
00:48:03
thing if you cut out for it and I
00:48:05
thought that's a good idea so I went and
00:48:07
Subway said yeah yeah okay no problem
00:48:10
took the store on and I um I discovered
00:48:14
after a couple years it's just not me
00:48:17
probably the thing that you did it for a
00:48:18
long time
00:48:19
though I I disagree with that I thought
00:48:21
you made a real fist of it oh yeah yeah
00:48:23
yeah yeah like it was fine but did I
00:48:25
love no and the thing that I didn't
00:48:28
particularly like was just the sheer
00:48:30
stress of all the staff at one point um
00:48:33
I had about 15 staff are they going to
00:48:35
turn up are they going to do a great job
00:48:37
as it this they've all got kind of
00:48:38
issues and I think post pandemic it's
00:48:40
probably even worse now you know I just
00:48:42
thought I'm paying you good money I'm
00:48:44
requiring you to do this job just do it
00:48:47
but it just doesn't work like that in
00:48:49
that model you know you you have to sort
00:48:52
of almost mother them into doing a good
00:48:55
job you're like a therapist okay oh God
00:48:58
and I just I thought I've got three kids
00:49:00
at home you know I don't need another 15
00:49:02
children um and that's the thing that
00:49:05
probably turned me off I know that if
00:49:07
you get into the supermarket game and
00:49:08
the further or if you're the owner
00:49:09
you've got people doing HR and the
00:49:11
management and all that sort of stuff
00:49:13
but still it's just a sheer
00:49:15
responsibility looking after all of
00:49:16
these people treating them well being a
00:49:19
good boss it's just I just thought it's
00:49:22
just this is not playing to my strengths
00:49:23
at all um
00:49:26
is it good money though if you got a
00:49:27
Subway franchise that's huming yeah yeah
00:49:29
but you've got to be there and you got
00:49:30
to put the work in it's like anything
00:49:32
did you know Stacy Jones I think he well
00:49:34
we did lots of talking we he came on
00:49:37
board about two years after me and so we
00:49:39
had a lot of conversations about it yes
00:49:43
yes Stacy yeah I've lost touch with
00:49:44
Stacy where is he well I think he's one
00:49:46
of the um one of the co- coaches of the
00:49:48
Warriors oh so he he got out of Subway
00:49:50
too did he I'm I'm not sure I'm not sure
00:49:52
yeah um Ben so you went to Subway
00:49:55
University in Brisbane oh yeah yeah yeah
00:49:57
yeah was it like a twoe course yeah it
00:49:58
was pretty full on it really interesting
00:50:00
so so what what are you what is there to
00:50:02
learn in two just all his systems right
00:50:05
yeah all his systems they PR the back
00:50:07
end is pretty complicated just getting
00:50:08
on top of the tech and there was a
00:50:11
really great tutor like he was an
00:50:13
absolutely inspirational tutor and every
00:50:16
day he just made all of that learning so
00:50:18
interesting so fun and in the groups
00:50:22
there were probably oh there's no more
00:50:24
than 10 of us from memory
00:50:26
and oh he was just absolutely incredible
00:50:29
gosh that was an inspiration it sort of
00:50:31
inspired me eventually to sort of go
00:50:33
back to University and do some stuff I
00:50:35
just thought this Learning Journey stuff
00:50:36
is good it's good if you're in the right
00:50:38
hands but anyway um and and so that's
00:50:41
what it was about there's actually a lot
00:50:43
that goes on behind the scenes that
00:50:44
youve got to have your head around and
00:50:45
when you walk into a Subway store um and
00:50:48
it smells like amazing fresh bread is
00:50:50
that like a spray like a or is that an
00:50:52
actual I heard it was a spray for me
00:50:54
it's a trigger
00:50:57
repeat
00:50:59
his wasn't there but um but you can
00:51:02
smell it you know a k down the road
00:51:05
don't you it's no that's legit the bread
00:51:08
there was there was one thing during
00:51:09
your Subway days um I think it was in
00:51:11
the like the hero on Sunday they have
00:51:12
like a you have done your resuit yeah
00:51:14
they have like a a section called spy
00:51:16
which is like the the gossip Pages oh
00:51:18
yeah and there was like a photo of you
00:51:19
in your Subway uniform and I can't
00:51:21
remember exactly what it said but the
00:51:24
the sort of undertone was almost like a
00:51:25
fall from grace in a way oh really well
00:51:27
that's how I sort of I don't know that
00:51:29
was a long time ago that's how I sort of
00:51:31
read like oh she was on TV now she's got
00:51:33
a store did you did you set a sense no
00:51:35
no no I I volunteered myself out of
00:51:37
television and I need yeah you're
00:51:39
running a successful [ __ ] business as
00:51:41
well yeah yeah yeah yeah but so maybe in
00:51:43
the eyes of the public or whoever wrote
00:51:45
the piece thought that television is
00:51:47
right at the top of the tree well it's
00:51:48
actually not it's just an arm a branch
00:51:52
you know some people might want to go
00:51:54
off and do corporate stuff some people
00:51:55
might want to do their own business
00:51:57
stuff some people might want to be in
00:51:58
television some people might want to
00:51:59
work in a library it it doesn't matter
00:52:01
no not at all I wanted a absolute break
00:52:04
from the broadcasting don't forget I was
00:52:06
in that broadcasting donkey deep for so
00:52:09
many years and I really wanted and I
00:52:11
really did seriously consider a big big
00:52:13
shift in career um and I'm really glad I
00:52:15
was my dear friend advised me so
00:52:18
sensibly go and try it at a small scale
00:52:21
and then you know see if you'd be really
00:52:23
up for the biggest Supermarket stuff and
00:52:25
just it was just not my jam yeah but you
00:52:28
did it for years though like eight years
00:52:30
seven years seven was it yeah I had a
00:52:32
bit of a gap in between and then I built
00:52:34
that store which is in the called it
00:52:36
Telecom place in the building cross the
00:52:39
road from Le m a couple hundred meters
00:52:40
from here yeah which is great because I
00:52:41
go there go to the gym come back over
00:52:43
the road go back and for back and board
00:52:45
yeah it was great that store's really
00:52:46
awesome actually how cool that you've
00:52:48
had all these different careers well two
00:52:50
two oh no no I'm thinking like the the
00:52:53
media training thing now like so that's
00:52:56
that's the yeah and then I thought okay
00:52:59
what am I going to do the kids are at
00:53:00
school everyone's happy Jim's doing his
00:53:02
thing I'm here and then I thought why
00:53:05
don't I actually just like give back
00:53:07
sounds a bit wanky doesn't it but what
00:53:10
do I know what do I really know yeah I
00:53:12
know journalism yeah I know TV yeah I
00:53:13
know radio okay why don't I do it why
00:53:16
don't I just actually start a bit of a
00:53:18
Biz where people can come to me for a
00:53:20
bit of advice and this is what it's
00:53:21
morphed into transferable skills right m
00:53:25
yeah it's cool and you're 59 now you're
00:53:28
1060 next year yeah how are you feeling
00:53:30
about that are you comfortable with your
00:53:31
age oh yeah I don't yeah yeah age is a
00:53:33
number I it's a celebration right like
00:53:35
it's um it's a number you know it's like
00:53:37
well what I mean is um and you'd be the
00:53:39
same you see a lot of people that aren't
00:53:41
lucky enough to make it so I think you
00:53:42
got to oh yeah yeah God at a health
00:53:44
level absolutely um I was actually
00:53:47
thinking I keep thinking what am I going
00:53:48
to do well as I said before we'll go
00:53:49
after Sil Stone which will be fantastic
00:53:51
well like their cars running around a
00:53:53
circle but you um I thought I'd do 60
00:53:57
walks in the year what do you think CU
00:54:00
I'm a walker not a runner 60 walks how
00:54:02
do you mean why 60 oh because you're 60
00:54:04
years old oh genius yeah yeah yeah yeah
00:54:09
no oh no there God that's I'm
00:54:18
out I'm trying to think of something a
00:54:21
little different 60 60 Walks Like what
00:54:23
like special Walks Like tongo Crossing
00:54:25
or yeah but I've done L of those so it'
00:54:26
be a bit of repeat business on some of
00:54:28
them but I reckon between here and maybe
00:54:32
then when we go on June I'll knock off a
00:54:33
few I thought if I could do 60 decent
00:54:36
walks so there has to be a bit of
00:54:38
criteria they got to be at least sort
00:54:39
20ks plus right that kind of vibe um oh
00:54:42
yeah because we're also going to do the
00:54:43
El Camino while we're away what's the El
00:54:47
Camino excuse
00:54:49
me it's taking an hour and you you you
00:54:52
the AL Camino mate minute 55 that's when
00:54:55
Harry lamby started to get aggressive
00:55:00
no um the El Camino is the pilgrims walk
00:55:04
have you heard of a movie called the way
00:55:07
no oh right so the El Camino is um is
00:55:10
what the old pilgrims used to do and
00:55:12
they're all heading to one place in
00:55:13
Northern Spain right so they'd come down
00:55:16
from France they'd come down from the UK
00:55:18
they'd come up via Portugal and these
00:55:20
walks um the seven of main ones and they
00:55:23
range in distance between about 100ks
00:55:26
and about a th000 K Wow and you just get
00:55:28
on and you walk and it's humbling you
00:55:32
have you know an assortment of
00:55:33
epiphanies you just trudge from one town
00:55:36
to the next town to the next town to the
00:55:38
next town you do it off the smell of an
00:55:40
oily rag some people bike them but
00:55:42
you're actively encouraged just to walk
00:55:45
and to do the thk it takes about three
00:55:47
months and if you just put El Camino
00:55:49
into the Google machine you will read
00:55:51
the most incredible stories of people
00:55:54
and what they learned about themselves
00:55:57
over the course of the war the people
00:55:58
that they they meet and because of time
00:56:02
constraints up there we're probably
00:56:03
going to do one of the shorter ones
00:56:04
which is about 10050 K and we'll just
00:56:07
take our time we'll do that over about a
00:56:08
week and it's just time for the family
00:56:11
just to put one foot in front of the
00:56:12
other you put your light pack on don't
00:56:14
take a whole lot of [ __ ] with you you
00:56:15
don't need it and we'll do it like the
00:56:17
pilgrims did it I love that I think
00:56:19
that's a great goal oh you well you'd
00:56:21
run it of course wouldn't you yeah I'd
00:56:22
love to run it but walking's great and I
00:56:24
think um doing 60 significant walks on
00:56:26
your 60th year an IDE say oh you're
00:56:30
going to have a big party and I thought
00:56:31
I don't big I might have groups cuz my
00:56:34
you know your friend groups are
00:56:35
different sort of friend groups do I
00:56:37
want to bring them all together I mean
00:56:39
that just seems like a logistical
00:56:40
nightmare so I thought maybe just a
00:56:42
splattering of little dinners and stuff
00:56:44
which would be nice I that's a great
00:56:45
idea I don't know I'm even thinking
00:56:47
about it it's just a day Jeremy Corbett
00:56:49
did that recently for for his birthday
00:56:50
he had like a series of of dinners cuz
00:56:52
he's like I don't I don't want a party
00:56:53
where I don't get to speak to every
00:56:55
everyone you know so you have dinners
00:56:56
over various nights I think that's great
00:56:59
he's awesome um at Mor we used to work
00:57:01
together you at Mor ofm yes I was back
00:57:04
in the early early days his news reader
00:57:06
on his um breakfast show but he is he's
00:57:09
over 60 though isn't he I think he's 60
00:57:11
now yeah no he's no is he is he just I
00:57:16
think he's 60 yeah I don't know what is
00:57:18
um but anyway hey um I'll let you go
00:57:20
because um you've got to help a man
00:57:21
become Prime Minister
00:57:23
stop
00:57:25
um thank you for having me thanks for
00:57:27
coming over it's been wonderful
00:57:29
connecting with you gosh you're talented
00:57:31
sh I've shared nothing of you know real
00:57:34
headlining grabby nothing I apologies
00:57:37
for that maybe I'm just it's it's not
00:57:38
really it's not really about that and
00:57:40
it's not what I'm no it's yeah it's not
00:57:41
what I'm trying to do with this good
00:57:43
just having good good conversations with
00:57:44
people yeah I know did you learn
00:57:46
anything um I think I learned a lot go
00:57:48
you that's the main thing as as yeah I
00:57:51
when I when I go back and listen to it
00:57:53
and um and by the way if there's
00:57:54
anything you want cut out um I happy to
00:57:56
cut it out uh it's not just not about
00:57:58
stitching anyone up here it's just about
00:57:59
having nice conversations and getting
00:58:01
allowing the the audience to get to know
00:58:03
someone a little bit better yeah no
00:58:05
that's okay um what I was going to say
00:58:07
was um when I do my media training stuff
00:58:12
would you know just in the in the world
00:58:13
generally I say you know tell me
00:58:16
something about yourself that no one
00:58:17
would know because you know we always
00:58:18
like a bit of surprise and Delight we
00:58:20
like a bit of wow don't we have I have I
00:58:24
given you any surprise and Delight is
00:58:26
there anything no you see so I've got to
00:58:29
actually practice what I preach and give
00:58:31
you some fresh material oh no I don't
00:58:32
know I think there's probably lots of
00:58:34
Little Gems there oh okay that you
00:58:35
didn't know okay fair enough all right
00:58:37
job done yeah no that's great Mary lamby
00:58:39

00:58:47
meet up with luxie oh stop it you call
00:58:49
him luxie oh hey by the way one last
00:58:52
thing on the on the on the debate the
00:58:53
other night this is the first debate
00:58:54
with j much Mai um Hipkins called him
00:58:58
Christopher he was calling him
00:58:59
Christopher was that intentional he he
00:59:01
literally he literally does not care
00:59:04
it's either Chris or Christopher so
00:59:05
everyone fluctuates between the two
00:59:07
right I know but I wondered if it was
00:59:09
like a deliberate Ploy that Hipkins
00:59:11
media people had told him refer to him
00:59:12
as Christopher a or maybe he was just
00:59:15
trying to differentiate because isn't it
00:59:17
funny when the two stand there they're
00:59:18
sort of about the same height they've
00:59:19
got the same name they said yes to a lot
00:59:21
of those quickfire questions or you know
00:59:23
they were agreed on them
00:59:26
what's telling us about him but but he
00:59:29
he is he's Christopher or Chris it's
00:59:30
like Michael Michael or Jim or James you
00:59:33
know that Mary lamby thank you so much
00:59:36

00:59:38

00:59:41
Treasure Island oh God that oh oh I'm
00:59:44

00:59:46
when am I on when do I get kicked off
00:59:47
soon oh yeah can do you want to end this
00:59:50
podcast by looking down the camera and
00:59:51
doing a swearing TI raade like he did on
00:59:53
TV I would not do it children barble I
00:59:56
am so sorry my darlings but an
00:59:59
embarrassment I aim to you my apologies
01:00:01
and I didn't mean it I made I thought
01:00:03
there was no way I was going to make the
01:00:04
edit and look what happened and now my
01:00:07
video editor will come to the clip where
01:00:09
Mary lamby swears
01:00:12
[Music]
01:00:22
