00:00:00
we've got 10 minutes with Amy glovich
00:00:02
Senator speed dating right last time I
00:00:04
talked to you we were on stage of code
00:00:06
and you promised me my privacy bill that
00:00:08
I've been wanting and my antitrust bill
00:00:10
and my others that I've you hadn't met
00:00:12
Jim Jordan yes okay explain to me where
00:00:15
we are right now okay so first you've
00:00:17
been just a big Fighter for sensible
00:00:21
legislation thank you so I actually
00:00:23
think there is a momentum going on and
00:00:26
I'm not just saying it so let's go over
00:00:27
the proof points number one I passed
00:00:30
that merger fee Bill and we're actually
00:00:31
getting the money now for antitrust doj
00:00:34
and for FDC that's a big deal it
00:00:37
increased the merger fees on big mergers
00:00:39
decreased on small that gives them the
00:00:41
resources they need because they are
00:00:43
actually um outnumber we just
00:00:44
interviewed John caner okay exactly so
00:00:47
that's a big deal um and then as you
00:00:49
know they've been really bringing cases
00:00:51
doing big things the Google case and and
00:00:53
the like other thing happening around
00:00:55
the world things are finally moving
00:00:57
including in countries like Canada that
00:00:59
traditionally hav't done a lot third
00:01:01
thing um we actually passed the kids
00:01:03
bills which I always predicted would go
00:01:05
first and this is on improving the
00:01:08
situation so kids aren't going to see
00:01:10
stuff they shouldn't see it's not going
00:01:12
to be foolproof but it is a big change
00:01:14
that we've been trying to do forever so
00:01:16
the next thing in line I would say post
00:01:19
elction is privacy just because people
00:01:21
are crying out for that as well as
00:01:23
moving on some of the competition bills
00:01:26
so I just refuse to just say oh it's
00:01:28
taking too long big change takes a long
00:01:31
time what and the more they lose in
00:01:33
court the more they say oh maybe we
00:01:36
should have some sensible rules in place
00:01:38
right so they just won the Google case
00:01:40
uh around that and there's others
00:01:42
there's others going there's another one
00:01:44
in Virginia with Google and other
00:01:46
companies Apple everybody else how do
00:01:48
you feel being that Pioneer and getting
00:01:50
mowed down by the lobbyists really but I
00:01:53
wasn't really mowed down because well
00:01:55
you Amy kachar killed the internet as I
00:01:57
recall right oh yeah you mean they read
00:01:59
Amy cloer will kill FaceTime and other
00:02:02
ones that I was going to uh demolish uh
00:02:05
Google Maps that was a good one um but
00:02:07
the truth is that we've only just begun
00:02:10
and I really believe this because of the
00:02:12
fact that you're seeing these court
00:02:13
cases which by the way given what was
00:02:16
going on with the lobbying was actually
00:02:18
always our best bet these are really
00:02:20
complex matters it is really hard to um
00:02:23
pass a law that covers all of it I would
00:02:26
like to pass rules of the road and what
00:02:28
is my friend here well we have to put
00:02:30
rules of the road in place on AI right
00:02:33
and some of this involves the news
00:02:35
organizations some of these platforms
00:02:37
are actually supporting some of my
00:02:38
proposals on AI including the Democracy
00:02:41
ones right and so I just think given
00:02:43
Senator Schumer's interest in moving
00:02:45
bipar of the poor with young and rounds
00:02:48
Hinrich I just I think there's a chance
00:02:51
to move some of this at the same time
00:02:53
okay Scott I don't think voters have
00:02:55
connected any trust with inflation and
00:02:58
inflation is obviously a big topic here
00:02:59
can you help us connect the dots Ticket
00:03:02
Master I mean voters have connected it
00:03:05
with things like that they get that
00:03:08
specific examples where there is a
00:03:10
connection where they don't like things
00:03:12
when they get too big and they'll say it
00:03:15
that way and they may just pick a
00:03:17
specific example where they suddenly
00:03:19
don't have a pharmacy they suddenly
00:03:21
don't have a choice uh when it comes to
00:03:24
a store and they certainly think of it
00:03:26
when it comes to say ticketing because
00:03:28
they've seen that the prices have gone G
00:03:30
up and it's more difficult now that case
00:03:32
has been brought corn and I put our bill
00:03:34
out so I use that example just because
00:03:36
it was the only time we were super cool
00:03:39
and we had like Taylor Swift fans
00:03:41
protesting on our side I just think some
00:03:43
of these examples when things get so out
00:03:45
of whack and there haven't been any
00:03:47
nuanced changes to our antitrust laws um
00:03:50
politics starts moving you have um not
00:03:54
only do you have Tim Walls has done some
00:03:56
work on this as our governor uh who's
00:03:58
our uh Vice presidential candidate that
00:04:01
I'm very excited about and obviously KLA
00:04:04
Harris she was on my Pharma bills when
00:04:06
it came to negotiation of drug prices
00:04:08
she gets this but then you JD Vans is
00:04:12
actually cared about this so what
00:04:13
happens when you have people on both
00:04:15
sides whether they be extreme
00:04:17
conservatives that I don't want to see
00:04:19
in the white house by any means or
00:04:21
whether they be um Democrats when you
00:04:24
see this happening um then the politics
00:04:26
changes it moves things because people
00:04:29
on on both sides all of our bills are
00:04:31
bipartisan start to want to move right
00:04:34
so there hasn't been any discussion of
00:04:36
tech here at all it's all what do you
00:04:38
think the biggest most important policy
00:04:40
issues that K except in this room in in
00:04:42
this room in the corner yes living you
00:04:45
have where we live don't insult our
00:04:47
living room okay no it's your living
00:04:48
room so what do you think the most
00:04:50
important thing Harris has to do here
00:04:53
and then coming out of here it's still
00:04:54
close sure let's go bigger let's go
00:04:57
bigger what what are the key things she
00:04:59
has to do okay so first let's
00:05:00
acknowledge what she's done
00:05:02
extraordinary in literally 30 some days
00:05:05
she has launched her campaign she has
00:05:07
United our party she has picked a vice
00:05:10
president she has filled Arenas with
00:05:11
over 15,000 people which is super pissed
00:05:14
off Trump uh and she is surging in swing
00:05:17
States and you run for president so you
00:05:19
know I know so that is pretty good to
00:05:21
begin with um you're going to have the
00:05:22
debate coming up you're going to have on
00:05:24
one side of the stage uh someone who's
00:05:26
been a prosecutor put murders in prison
00:05:29
one side you got someone who believes in
00:05:31
the rule of law and then you got this
00:05:32
other guy you've got a um uh someone
00:05:36
who's cross-examined Supreme Court
00:05:38
Justices and got their number when it
00:05:40
came to roie Wade and another guy that
00:05:42
says he's proud to support it it's a
00:05:44
major difference and my favorite thing
00:05:46
right now is you've got these happy
00:05:48
people in these Arenas and at our
00:05:50
convention on one side and on the other
00:05:52
side Donald Trump's rambling about bird
00:05:55
cemeteries um and basically while Tim
00:05:58
and KLA had have hit it off or out there
00:06:01
those two look like they need couples
00:06:02
counseling Trump and Vance I mean it's a
00:06:04
serious issue so that's just such a
00:06:08
difference so I think she needs to keep
00:06:09
making the contrast like I just made um
00:06:12
she needs to talk about the future this
00:06:14
week and going forward it's not just we
00:06:16
don't want what was the past we also
00:06:20
want to move forward to the future
00:06:21
that's what a lot of people want that's
00:06:22
why they're excited about this new Team
00:06:25
all right Scott last question Governor
00:06:26
walls was pretty unknown you've
00:06:28
obviously know him well you've worked
00:06:29
with them what can you tell us about
00:06:31
Governor uh walls that we don't know
00:06:33
already okay well I go so far back that
00:06:36
my in-laws brought over a chicken parm
00:06:39
casserole when their son was born so my
00:06:42
husband grew up is that one what does in
00:06:44
Minnesota that's what you're bring over
00:06:45
chicken well my mother and father-in-law
00:06:49
have six boys they both still live in
00:06:51
the same town that Tim taught school in
00:06:54
uh and uh they lived in a trailer court
00:06:57
single trailer home they had triple bunk
00:06:59
beds and all these people brought them
00:07:01
food when these boys were born in quick
00:07:03
succession so when she decided she was
00:07:06
going to pay back in Big Time her whole
00:07:08
life and she's delivered hundreds of
00:07:10
these um meals um and that's what you do
00:07:13
in small towns so that just gives you
00:07:15
some sense of where Tim Walls came from
00:07:18
17 signs up for the National Guard like
00:07:20
a lot of rural kids does sticks with it
00:07:22
for 24 years uh decides to run in a red
00:07:27
District after taking a zero and 27
00:07:31
football team not everyone knows those
00:07:32
numbers I'm doing the nominating speech
00:07:34
I may know them uh Zer and 27 football
00:07:38
team and turns it into a state champion
00:07:41
um these are stories that evoke a lot of
00:07:44
emotions in people in the top 10
00:07:46
bipartisan then uses his power not to
00:07:48
just sit there but to run for governor
00:07:51
and uh really transforms our state and
00:07:53
brings people together you must be
00:07:54
excited you must yeah we're very happy
00:07:56
we're very good friends of theirs so so
00:07:58
last question what are you most wored
00:07:59
about you know again it's even it's even
00:08:02
it's she's so but she is surging ahead
00:08:05
in a number of these swing States I mean
00:08:07
the polls are changing quickly and when
00:08:09
I look at what she's done in 30 days you
00:08:11
know anyone would look at that
00:08:12
trajectory and think it's a positive one
00:08:14
you always get worried about Donald
00:08:15
Trump you know he makes things up uh you
00:08:19
worry about his uh lack of any belief in
00:08:22
our democracy and what that means you've
00:08:24
got to have election people out you've
00:08:25
got to be ready uh I'll be chairing the
00:08:28
inauguration matter who wins um as well
00:08:31
as in charge of making sure the
00:08:33
Electoral ballots are being counted so
00:08:34
what do you think I'm worried about so
00:08:36
we got to make sure that whole thing uh
00:08:38
moves in a much better way than it did
00:08:40
on January 6 so but in the immediate I
00:08:43
just want people to get to know Tim um I
00:08:46
want people to start seeing her in a
00:08:48
positive way and last thing is just as
00:08:51
women candidates we've gotten hit
00:08:53
Hillary Clinton addressed this some last
00:08:55
night um Elizabeth Warren and um you and
00:08:59
myself we know what this is like and
00:09:01
this is the cool part they are ahead of
00:09:03
the game this time they were ready for
00:09:05
this because she was running as VP so
00:09:07
when they go after her her laugh now it
00:09:10
is mashed up with beyon music when they
00:09:13
go after her coconut trees it's now a
00:09:16
meme you know we've got Brad summer and
00:09:19
they've got cat ladies so I just I think
00:09:22
that we have learned that you don't
00:09:23
always just get mad about everything and
00:09:26
take it on head on cuz you want to get
00:09:28
mad when you're women candidate you're
00:09:30
running against a guy that's less
00:09:31
qualified and then you're taking all
00:09:33
this grief so I think we've learned you
00:09:35
you don't always take it head on you can
00:09:37
ignore it some that's strong or you can
00:09:40
make fun of it and that is really
00:09:42
working right now perfect thank you
00:09:45
thank youat guys all right thank you
00:09:47
congratulations good luck
