The Shocking Murder of Rob Andrew | The Christmas Killings hosted by Nancy Grace

April 24, 2025 / 47:10

This episode covers the murder of Rob Andrew in Oklahoma City in November 2001, the investigation into his death, and the involvement of his estranged wife Brenda Andrew and her lover James Pat.

Rob Andrew, a devoted father, was shot in his garage just before Thanksgiving while picking up his children. His wife Brenda, who was recovering from a gunshot wound, became a suspect due to her troubled marriage and multiple affairs.

Detectives discovered that Brenda had planned the murder with James Pat, who had sold Rob an $800,000 life insurance policy. Evidence revealed that Brenda shot Rob at close range, and her actions were premeditated.

After fleeing to Mexico with her children and James, they were eventually captured. Both were tried and convicted for Rob's murder, with Brenda receiving the death penalty.

The episode highlights the tragic circumstances surrounding Rob's death and the impact on his family during what should have been a joyful holiday season.

Brenda had filed for divorce but it was
00:02:35
not something he wanted he was
00:02:36
heartbroken over that I know that
00:02:39
particular Thanksgiving was a big deal
00:02:40
to him because he was picking up the
00:02:42
kids and taking them to have
00:02:44
Thanksgiving dinner with his family it
00:02:47
was going to be a normal Thanksgiving
00:02:48
except Brenda wasn't part of the
00:02:50
equation this
00:02:52
time but he went over to pick up his
00:02:54
kids that night

00:03:28
I don't know oh my God there's blood
00:03:36
everywhere well the incident happened
00:03:37
it's a quiet neighborhood it's a aurban
00:03:40
type
00:03:42
neighborhood large homes uh expensive
00:03:46
I'm thinking uh you know why is this
00:03:48
happening over there Roland Garrett is a
00:03:51
retired detective from the Oklahoma City
00:03:54
PD when I drive up the scene I see uh
00:03:58
dozen police cars
00:04:01
ambulance everybody's lights is
00:04:04
flashing and the lights of the home are
00:04:06
on in the garage the garage door is is
00:04:08
raised the overhead garage door is
00:04:11
up I met my partner outside the crime
00:04:16
scene he said when the officers arrived
00:04:18
at the scene Brenda Andrew was leaning
00:04:21
over Rob Andrew her
00:04:27
husband there have been two masked guns
00:04:29
gun men that had come into her
00:04:34
garage one had a shotgun and shot her
00:04:40
husband the other had a smaller pistol
00:04:43
and shot
00:04:44
[Music]
00:04:47
her she had a uh gunshot wound to the
00:04:50
upper part of her left
00:04:56
arm Brenda is taken by EMS to the
00:04:59
hospital to get treatment for her
00:05:01
gunshot
00:05:03
wound in television news Thanksgiving
00:05:06
was an easy holiday to work because
00:05:08
there wasn't a lot of news going on this
00:05:11
being the
00:05:12
exception it came over the scanners and
00:05:14
so we jumped in the car showed up and
00:05:16
there were police cars
00:05:19
everywhere we heard someone was dead in
00:05:22
the garage and there was another
00:05:25
victim he shows up to pick up his kids
00:05:28
and he gets killed in the garage
00:05:30
on his way to celebrate a beautiful
00:05:33
holiday I'm sure with his family and his
00:05:36
children how could that
00:05:38
[Music]
00:05:40
happen the kids were found inside the
00:05:42
house watching
00:05:44
television those two little kids had no
00:05:47
clue that their world was changing right
00:05:49
outside in their very own
00:05:51
garage so at the time they were removed
00:05:54
from the scene and taken to a neighbor's
00:05:57
house
00:05:59
[Music]
00:06:03
based on the information we received
00:06:04
know it was two suspects so we we had
00:06:07
patrolman in the area and we also had a
00:06:09
helicopter checking the
00:06:14
area spoke to the neighbors to find out
00:06:17
if anybody saw anything or were there
00:06:19
any security
00:06:20
cameras No cameras we did have some
00:06:23
neighbors that heard something they say
00:06:25
sound like a trash can banging or
00:06:27
something uh that's about all they
00:06:31
heard the forensic investigators arrived
00:06:33
at the scene and they see what we got
00:06:39
there Rob was laying on his back in the
00:06:43
garage there were two wounds he was shot
00:06:46
in his neck and in the side of his
00:06:50
abdomen there was a bag of tin cans
00:06:55
nearby Rob was likely trying to Shield
00:06:59
him self from the second
00:07:02
shot in the forensic investigators
00:07:04
located a shotgun shell on top of a
00:07:06
minivan that was parked in the
00:07:11
garage and a bullet fragment in the door
00:07:14
the door which leads from the uh garage
00:07:16
to the interior of the
00:07:18
house no weapons were found at the
00:07:23
scene at the time I still don't have
00:07:25
much no known reason why somebody would
00:07:27
want to come kill this man in his garage
00:07:40
[Music]
00:07:42
I got a phone call from a coworker and
00:07:45
she
00:07:46
said did you
00:07:48
hear and she said Rob is
00:07:56
dead and I just felt like
00:08:00
[Music]
00:08:02
is Indescribable like your soul leaving
00:08:05
your body or something it's something
00:08:06
I've never felt before and never have
00:08:08
again and hope I never
00:08:12
do I knew it would be important to talk
00:08:14
to Brenda Andrew the wife of the
00:08:17
deceased I was hoping that she would be
00:08:19
able to come up with something to help
00:08:20
lead us to some
00:08:24
suspects I go to the hospital and Brenda
00:08:28
was still in the emergency room being
00:08:30
treated her condition was was going to
00:08:33
be non-life-threatening and she was just
00:08:35
sto just sitting there basically
00:08:37
answering my
00:08:38
questions she told me they were going
00:08:40
through a divorce and he had moved out a
00:08:42
couple months prior he got an apartment
00:08:45
3 mil away from their
00:08:47
house husband and father Rob Andrew
00:08:50
comes to the home to get the children
00:08:53
he's taking them to a Thanksgiving
00:08:55
dinner at his parents' home before they
00:08:58
leave wife Brenda asked Rob to check the
00:09:01
furnace that night her pilot light on
00:09:04
her furnace had gone out and she needed
00:09:06
some help with
00:09:12
that as he crouched down to take a look
00:09:16
suddenly two masked men appeared in the
00:09:22
garage one fired a shot at
00:09:28
Rob she was shot and she was exit in the
00:09:31
garage to go back in the
00:09:34
house she went inside called 911 and she
00:09:37
went back out to check on Rob and the
00:09:40
guys were
00:09:43
gone Brenda was unable to offer any
00:09:47
clues as to who the suspects could
00:09:49
possibly be she had no clue who would
00:09:51
want to hurt
00:09:52
rob you know it could be a home invasion
00:09:55
or it could be Rob getting followed home
00:09:57
you kind of Wonder is is this going to
00:09:59
be
00:10:00
solvable it was all depending on what we
00:10:02
was going to find out about the victim
00:10:04
and his
00:10:11
[Music]
00:10:16
wife Brenda and Rob both grew up in Enid
00:10:20
Oklahoma Rob grew up in a conservative
00:10:23
Baptist household with his three
00:10:26
brothers Brenda had grown up in a very
00:10:30
conservative household as
00:10:33
well everyone knew the story about how
00:10:35
Rob and Brenda met it was in Enid in the
00:10:39
summer at the public swimming
00:10:43
pool Brenda walked in Rob had always
00:10:46
said I saw this cute girl in the
00:10:48
swimsuit and said I'm going to marry her
00:10:51
and he
00:10:53
[Music]
00:10:55
did shortly after getting married the
00:10:57
couple moves to Oklahoma City where Rob
00:11:00
has offered the job of his
00:11:02
dreams Rob was an advertising executive
00:11:05
for Jordan advertising here in Oklahoma
00:11:07
City and he had done very well for
00:11:09
himself had a great reputation in this
00:11:12
town and in the advertising World in
00:11:15
1990 Rob and Brenda Andrew start a
00:11:18
family of their own first the birth of
00:11:21
their daughter trity then a few years
00:11:24
later they welcome a baby boy Parker he
00:11:28
was the stereotypical Family Man loved
00:11:31
his wife loved his
00:11:33
kids told us all the time how proud he
00:11:36
was of all of them I mean he lived for
00:11:38
his family and I know it sounds like a
00:11:42
stereotype or a cliche to say that he
00:11:44
was the nicest guy but he really was the
00:11:47
nicest guy he did things for people
00:11:49
without asking and he didn't expect
00:11:51
anything in
00:11:52
return his positivity came from his
00:11:56
faith he was a very religious man
00:12:00
Rob went on mission trips with his
00:12:02
church they would go overseas and build
00:12:06
houses for a village that didn't really
00:12:09
have housing and he loved
00:12:12
it Brenda was your typical stay-at-home
00:12:16
mom she taught Sunday school she baked
00:12:19
brownies with her kids like the perfect
00:12:22
wife and mother Brenda would come up to
00:12:26
the office with the kids every now and
00:12:27
then she seemed very happy
00:12:30
and devoted to them devoted to Rob they
00:12:32
absolutely seem like a strong couple Rob
00:12:35
thought that this was his happily ever
00:12:37
after but just two months before
00:12:41
Thanksgiving Rob had left the house at
00:12:44
Brenda's
00:12:46
[Music]
00:12:48
insistance he was heartbroken and living
00:12:52
in an apartment and
00:12:55
just desperately praying that she would
00:12:58
have uh second
00:13:01
thoughts he wanted to stay married to
00:13:03
her he still loved her with all of his
00:13:07
heart he believed if he prayed hard
00:13:09
enough and kept at it that he could turn
00:13:12
her around that that they could they
00:13:15
could be in love
00:13:16
again despite the problems in his
00:13:19
relationship you know he was he was
00:13:20
really trying to you know take care of
00:13:22
his kids and stay a part of their life
00:13:24
despite what's going on with him his
00:13:26
wife it seems no one has anything
00:13:29
anything bad to say about Rob but when
00:13:31
it comes to wife Brenda detectives hear
00:13:33
a very different
00:13:36
story Brenda very much put on a June
00:13:40
Cleaver sort of role but that wasn't who
00:13:43
she
00:13:45
was she looked like the perfect
00:13:48
stay-at-home mom Sunday school
00:13:53
innocent it was quite the opposite
00:14:00
[Music]
00:14:03
Brenda had a lot of skeletons in her
00:14:14
closet Thanksgiving is truly a time for
00:14:18
gratitude and for families to gather and
00:14:21
give thanks despite his troubled
00:14:24
marriage Rob Andrew wants his children
00:14:26
to have a wonderful holiday so who who
00:14:31
would want to gun down this Dad Gunn
00:14:35
Down In Cold Blood when he's picking up
00:14:38
his children for Thanksgiving
00:14:40
dinner detectives speak to those closest
00:14:43
to Rob Andrew to learn he is a star
00:14:46
advertising executive his success buys a
00:14:50
beautiful home for his family and it all
00:14:52
seems ideal except his stay-at-home wife
00:14:56
Brenda is not staying home
00:15:01
for all intents and purposes she looked
00:15:03
like the perfect stay-at-home mom it was
00:15:07
quite the opposite she'd had multiple
00:15:10
affairs with different
00:15:16
men and it starts almost immediately
00:15:19
after their
00:15:21
marriage as part of the work I did with
00:15:23
Rob we were in the car for two hours at
00:15:28
a time at least once if not twice a week
00:15:31
almost every time he would call Brenda
00:15:33
and I noticed that they never said I
00:15:35
love
00:15:36
you one time I asked him why do you
00:15:40
never say I love you on the phone and he
00:15:42
told me that she had said soon after
00:15:45
they got married that makes me feel
00:15:47
uncomfortable do not ever tell me that
00:15:51
again I mean at the time I was newly
00:15:54
married and I couldn't even fathom a
00:15:56
world in which I didn't end a
00:15:57
conversation with my wife that way uh it
00:16:01
seemed
00:16:03
bizarre on subsequent trips Rob would
00:16:06
tell me about Affairs he believed Brenda
00:16:09
was
00:16:12
having I remember asking what makes you
00:16:15
think
00:16:17
that he told a story about coming home
00:16:20
and seeing a box on the bed with you
00:16:22
know fancy ribbon and he opened it up to
00:16:25
look and it was
00:16:26
lingerie and he thought oo you know uh
00:16:30
he was looking forward to
00:16:33
that but then he never got to see
00:16:38
it the biggest one was they had come
00:16:41
back from a trip to Mexico with another
00:16:46
couple and Rob strongly believed that
00:16:49
Brenda was having an affair with the
00:16:51
other
00:16:52
man just the way they interacted during
00:16:54
the trip the way they were always
00:16:56
sneaking off together during the trip
00:16:58
and it turned out to be
00:17:00
[Music]
00:17:01
true she was sinning but yet he forgave
00:17:05
her he still wanted to be married to her
00:17:08
he was not about to break that vow that
00:17:11
was not something he ever wanted to even
00:17:20
[Music]
00:17:23
consider we knew that she was carrying
00:17:25
on with some other men but just because
00:17:27
of her doing whatever she was doing with
00:17:29
the other gentleman didn't necessarily
00:17:32
mean that she was going to be a uh a
00:17:35
killer we got several men we need to
00:17:38
speak to we have to make sure that that
00:17:40
man wouldn't have a reason to want Rob
00:17:43
gone detectives managed to track down
00:17:46
one of Brenda's lovers he's a friend of
00:17:49
her husband Rob and his name is
00:17:55
Jim from Jim I found out that he had
00:17:59
been involved in a affair with
00:18:01
Brenda Jim was going over to the Andrew
00:18:04
home when Rob wasn't
00:18:06
[Music]
00:18:08
there once Rob knew or found out Rob had
00:18:12
actually told him I don't want you at my
00:18:16
house and so he stopped going over there
00:18:20
stayed away from Brenda he told me that
00:18:23
it had ended after about 3
00:18:27
months I've thought he was believable I
00:18:30
don't think he had any reason to go over
00:18:33
there and shoot
00:18:35
robod this story continued to reveal
00:18:39
different layers like an onion you're
00:18:40
peeling all of this back and there are
00:18:42
so many unknowns people started thinking
00:18:45
who's this mystery person could this
00:18:47
person have had anything to do with
00:18:49
[Music]
00:18:52
it 3 days after Thanksgiving Oklahoma
00:18:56
City PD gets a call from and Rob's next
00:18:59
door neighbors Judy and Dean
00:19:02
gigstad they've just returned from
00:19:04
Thanksgiving out of
00:19:06
town they noticed there were some things
00:19:08
in their home that weren't as they left
00:19:12
[Music]
00:19:15
them she notices her shoe rack is no
00:19:19
longer in her closet it was broken and
00:19:22
placed under her
00:19:24
bed they noticed that the attic trap
00:19:28
door is slightly a jar as if somebody
00:19:31
has been recently in the
00:19:33
attic and that's when she made the
00:19:36
realization that somebody was in her
00:19:40
house most likely the same person that
00:19:42
killed her
00:19:43
neighbor they're thinking that he's
00:19:46
still up there with the you know with
00:19:47
the murder weapon and watching whatever
00:19:49
you're doing so they call 911
00:20:00
[Music]
00:20:03
police do not find an intruder in the
00:20:05
house however the search of the gigstad
00:20:08
home reveals surprising
00:20:18
evidence we found a 16 gauge shotgun
00:20:21
shell on the floor in one of the
00:20:26
bedrooms one of our forensic
00:20:28
investigators went to the attic and he
00:20:30
located several 22 caliber
00:20:34
bullets when the evidence is analyzed
00:20:38
the detectives are informed that the
00:20:40
ammunition found in the neighbor's home
00:20:43
matched the two guns that were used to
00:20:47
commit the murder and the shooting of
00:20:51
Brenda you finding the shell case and in
00:20:53
the home and that things Disturbed will
00:20:55
make us believe that the suspect
00:20:58
possibly ran over to the G that home and
00:21:00
was actually in the home hiding out
00:21:02
while we're at the crime scene
00:21:05
investigating this would explain why
00:21:07
there was not much of a trail to
00:21:10
follow nobody saw the gunmen running
00:21:13
from the
00:21:15
neighborhood from the attic there's a
00:21:18
window with a clear view to the garage
00:21:21
where this crime was committed so it's
00:21:24
very possible that the murderer had been
00:21:27
stalking Brenda and
00:21:30
Rob it doesn't take long for police to
00:21:34
discover Rob has been in the crosshairs
00:21:36
of a determined killer Oklahoma City
00:21:39
Police Department hi there I'd like to
00:21:41
report a clim my uh breake lines have
00:21:44
been
00:21:46
cut that sounds like attempted murder
00:21:48
don't you think
00:22:00
welcome back Thanksgiving is one of the
00:22:03
busiest travel times of the whole year
00:22:06
so many people leave town to visit
00:22:08
family homes are often left
00:22:11
[Music]
00:22:12
empty that's when police discover Rob
00:22:15
Andrew's killer has hidden in the
00:22:19
neighbor's home
00:22:21
[Music]
00:22:32
detectives knew that the killer had been
00:22:35
in the neighbor's house but there were
00:22:37
no signs of forced
00:22:39
entry so the question was how did they
00:22:42
get in who had access to this
00:22:46
house the gig stats told the police that
00:22:49
their son Jeff had a key to their
00:22:53
home they said that their son had came
00:22:56
to the house before they came back from
00:22:58
out of town
00:22:59
he came over to the house to to grab
00:23:02
something so I knew it would be
00:23:04
important to talk to him about why he
00:23:06
went to the house and when he
00:23:10
went Jeff's Alibi was his wife and it
00:23:13
was Brock
00:23:15
solid on the evening of November 20th
00:23:19
they attended a family
00:23:25
Thanksgiving he really didn't have any
00:23:27
connection to Rob
00:23:29
Jeff informed the investigators that the
00:23:32
day following the murder he stopped by
00:23:35
his parents' home he was retrieving a
00:23:37
playpen that he wanted for his little
00:23:41
baby when Jeff picks up the playpen he
00:23:44
just misses crossing paths with the
00:23:46
killer who's hiding in his parents' home
00:23:50
it's a premeditated murder plan
00:23:53
detective Roland Garrett soon finds out
00:23:55
it's not the first attempt on Rob's life
00:24:04
[Music]
00:24:11
life one morning in October Rob was
00:24:14
backing out of his
00:24:17
driveway and noticed that his brakes
00:24:20
weren't
00:24:23
[Music]
00:24:26
working that's when he realized there
00:24:28
was brake fluid in his
00:24:31
driveway he took his car to a mechanic
00:24:34
shop where they showed him that his
00:24:37
brake lines have been cleanly
00:24:43
cut it really seemed as if someone had
00:24:46
purposefully tampered with his car oklah
00:24:49
City Police Department hi I'd like to
00:24:52
report a clim my uh brake lines have
00:24:55
been
00:24:56
cut that sounds like a Ed murder don't
00:24:59
you
00:25:01
think that same day Rob receives a call
00:25:04
from an anonymous
00:25:06
woman and she tells him that he needs to
00:25:09
go to the hospital because Brenda had
00:25:11
been in a car
00:25:13
accident Rob this for you I was know
00:25:17
that you need to go pick up youra at
00:25:19
Norman Regal Hospital Rob Andrew has a
00:25:22
friend drive him to the hospital but
00:25:23
when he arrives wife Brenda is nowhere
00:25:26
to be found she's never been in an
00:25:29
accident it was just an attempt to get
00:25:31
him to drive somewhere quickly and
00:25:33
potentially have a wreck and either kill
00:25:35
himself or seriously hurt
00:25:40
himself Rob didn't recognize the voice
00:25:43
from the woman that they called him he
00:25:45
would have recognized Brenda's voice and
00:25:47
it wasn't Brenda so now we got somebody
00:25:50
else involved here we got another player
00:25:53
we got to find out how deep they're
00:25:54
involved in this and what else did they
00:25:56
do beside make that phone call who is
00:25:59
this unknown female caller given
00:26:01
Brenda's history of multiple Affairs
00:26:03
perhaps she had upset the wife of one of
00:26:07
her lovers police had to consider it was
00:26:10
possibly a female
00:26:19
killer is the mysterious caller someone
00:26:23
in Brenda and Rob's circle of friends
00:26:26
detectives interview members of their
00:26:28
congregation and they uncover a critical
00:26:32
new lead we found that they had some
00:26:34
problems at the church Brenda had got in
00:26:38
some uh hot water at the church by the
00:26:40
way she was dressing she was starting to
00:26:43
wear low cut dresses and and dressed
00:26:45
like you know sexy for church that
00:26:48
definitely made a lot of them
00:26:51
suspicious Brenda was a uh Sunday school
00:26:53
teacher and at one point she was
00:26:55
teaching Sunday school with another
00:26:57
gentleman that they were seen by fellow
00:26:59
church members at lunch holding
00:27:02
[Music]
00:27:04
hands his name was James
00:27:09
Pat James Pat was very involved in his
00:27:11
church was an insurance man by trade and
00:27:15
uh very close with uh a lot of the
00:27:18
people in the church including
00:27:21
Rob they even went hunting
00:27:25
together James Pat even went to the
00:27:28
Andrew's house for dinner on occasion
00:27:31
and was very close with that
00:27:33
family it became very evident to the
00:27:36
congregation that Brenda and James were
00:27:38
having an
00:27:43
affair they were actually asked to step
00:27:45
down as Sunday school teachers as a
00:27:48
result of
00:27:54
that James was crazy about Brenda just
00:27:58
felt very connected to her and loved
00:28:01
Brenda dearly seems like he loved her so
00:28:04
much he would have done anything to keep
00:28:06
that love and that relationship
00:28:08
going James had left his wife earlier
00:28:12
that year for Brenda and so he had every
00:28:15
motive to want Brenda and Rob not to be
00:28:23
together James Pat was in the military
00:28:26
prior to his Insurance
00:28:30
life so highly skilled highly
00:28:33
trained James had training in sniper
00:28:36
shooting he was very comfortable around
00:28:40
guns something else about him is that he
00:28:42
walked around he bragged about being a
00:28:44
Commando and killing a bunch of people
00:28:47
in the
00:28:51
military based on the information that
00:28:53
we had James provided somebody that we
00:28:55
needed to consider as a possible suspect
00:28:59
we made several attempts to reach Mr Pat
00:29:03
calling his home going by uh never
00:29:06
located
00:29:07
him we eventually got a phone call from
00:29:10
his lawyer who said he wouldn't be
00:29:12
making himself available he's not going
00:29:14
to come in and
00:29:17
talk and then out of the blue detectives
00:29:20
get another phone call from Rob and
00:29:22
Brenda's nextdoor neighbor Judy gigstad
00:29:25
suddenly Judy remembered that they also
00:29:28
had given a key to their
00:29:31
neighbor Brenda
00:29:35
Andrew Brenda and Rob were friends with
00:29:38
them for years and anytime they would
00:29:39
leave town they would watch over what
00:29:42
was going on so they had a key knowing
00:29:44
that Brenda Andrew had a key that she
00:29:46
had access to the house and since she
00:29:49
was carrying on with James pach thinking
00:29:52
she might be
00:29:54
involved could she have been part of
00:29:57
this did she help plan this
00:30:02
attack if Rob Andrew is truly giving his
00:30:06
wife Brenda the divorce she wants why
00:30:09
would she and James pavot want to kill
00:30:12
him detectives focus on the details of
00:30:15
Rob and Brenda's divorce looking for a
00:30:18
motive Rob Andrew was kicked out of the
00:30:21
house the end of September a couple of
00:30:23
months before he was
00:30:24
murdered they had a legal separation he
00:30:27
was providing support money for Brendan
00:30:28
and kids but the Andrews were in dispute
00:30:32
about a $800,000 life insurance
00:30:36
policy Rob and Brenda had taken an
00:30:39
insurance policy out for Rob to take
00:30:41
care of Brenda and the kids in case
00:30:43
something were to happened to him
00:30:44
because they were his
00:30:46
everything but detectives discovered the
00:30:48
insurance policy on Rob
00:30:51
Andrew was written and prepared by James
00:30:55
Pat
00:31:00
$800,000 that has to be considered as a
00:31:02
possible motive for
00:31:06
murder especially because the very man
00:31:08
that had sold him the policy was now
00:31:10
having an affair with his
00:31:19
wife Thanksgiving marks the beginning of
00:31:22
the Christmas holiday when people get to
00:31:24
spend time with friends and family
00:31:27
people they whole deer for Brenda Andrew
00:31:31
this holiday is different for her it's
00:31:35
more of a nightmare she's recovering
00:31:37
from a gunshot wound her husband has
00:31:40
been murdered and now she's a suspect in
00:31:43
his
00:31:44
murder and what about Rob Andrew's
00:31:47
family they'll never have the
00:31:49
opportunity to share a holiday with Rob
00:31:53
instead they've got to plan his funeral
00:32:01
it was just really sad to think that
00:32:05
something this horrific happened right
00:32:07
before the Thanksgiving
00:32:09
holiday where you get together around
00:32:11
the table with your family you get to
00:32:13
spend time with your loved ones and he
00:32:15
shows up to pick up his kids and he gets
00:32:17
killed in the garage by now rumors are
00:32:21
circulating about Brenda's possible
00:32:23
involvement in her husband Rob's murder
00:32:26
the feeling going into any funeral is
00:32:29
bad enough but Rob's funeral was very
00:32:31
strange because everyone was sort of
00:32:34
wondering is Brenda going to show up we
00:32:37
were outside of the church and I I just
00:32:42
I remember thinking Brenda and his
00:32:45
children were not
00:32:46
[Music]
00:32:50
there they actually held the service for
00:32:54
about an hour hoping they would show up
00:33:01
and they
00:33:02
[Music]
00:33:06
didn't who doesn't show up to their own
00:33:09
spouse's funeral and doesn't let the
00:33:11
kids come to their dad's funeral how
00:33:13
heartless do you have to be at that
00:33:15
point when she didn't show up the
00:33:16
funeral I knew she had
00:33:18
fled I was like she is leaving town
00:33:29
we received a phone call and we're
00:33:31
advised that Brenda and the kids were
00:33:33
not at the funeral so we went by the
00:33:35
house to see if they were there or they
00:33:37
weren't there detectives go to James
00:33:40
Pat's home next they discover he's also
00:33:43
packed up and gone can't reach them on
00:33:46
the phone can't find them
00:33:49
anywhere they didn't
00:33:55
vanished with Brenda's disappearance is
00:33:58
looking more and more likely she is
00:34:00
James pavot's accomplice in Rob's murder
00:34:04
investigators still don't know the
00:34:05
identity of the woman who called Rob
00:34:08
when his brake lines were cut but can't
00:34:11
they go from just suspecting Brenda to
00:34:14
proving she's actually involved in
00:34:17
husband Rob's
00:34:19
murder detective Roland Garrett comes up
00:34:22
with a plan and the forensic science
00:34:24
needed to make it work when I spoke to
00:34:27
to Brenda down at the hospital I
00:34:29
collected her clothing for
00:34:32
evidence she had some gunshot residue on
00:34:35
her blouse so we had it analyzed Brenda
00:34:39
sustained only a minor wound which is a
00:34:43
little odd considering that her husband
00:34:45
had been shot twice with a shotgun and
00:34:47
that she had only been shot by a smaller
00:34:49
caliber weapon in the
00:34:51
arm The Gunshot was found to be a close
00:34:55
contact wound with which means it was uh
00:34:59
2 to 4 in away from her skin when the
00:35:01
gun was
00:35:03
fired what this meant to the
00:35:06
investigators is that she was shot at
00:35:08
close range not from across the garage
00:35:11
as she had told
00:35:13
[Music]
00:35:15
them forensic evidence also showed that
00:35:18
blood spatter found on Brenda's jeans
00:35:20
belonged to
00:35:22
rob it indicated that she had to have
00:35:26
been close by with within a foot or so
00:35:29
of her husband when he was shot and
00:35:31
killed so that tells us that the second
00:35:33
shotgun blast that he received came from
00:35:40
her and when she shot him it splattered
00:35:43
back onto her
00:35:52
jeans just 3 weeks before Christmas the
00:35:55
last piece of the puzzle falls into play
00:35:58
we get a phone call from an attorney
00:35:59
that wants to bring a witness in and
00:36:01
talk to us and that witness is James
00:36:04
Pat's daughter and she has some
00:36:07
information for
00:36:08
us her name was Jan
00:36:11
Larson we found out that she was the
00:36:13
woman that had made the phone call
00:36:16
telling Rob to drive to the hospital
00:36:20
Rob need to go pick up your at Norman
00:36:25
Hospital she said she was asked to do
00:36:27
that Our
00:36:30
Father Janet didn't know all the details
00:36:32
of what was happening in that
00:36:34
relationship between Brenda and Rob and
00:36:37
her dad James Pat she was coerced into
00:36:41
doing
00:36:43
it that was probably the last piece of
00:36:46
evidence that we needed at the time we
00:36:48
were able to get a warrant for both
00:36:51
Brenda and James provide for Murder One
00:37:00
detectives contact the FBI and very soon
00:37:04
an international Manhunt is underway for
00:37:06
wife Brenda Andrew and Her Lover James
00:37:10
pavot daughter Jana lson agrees to work
00:37:13
with authorities she tells them
00:37:16
everything she knows and the same day as
00:37:19
Rob Andrew's funeral James Pat actually
00:37:21
showed up at her house and he had Brenda
00:37:24
Andrew and the kids were with him they
00:37:26
were outside in a van he got on her
00:37:29
computer and he was looking up what
00:37:31
countries wouldn't extradite back to the
00:37:34
United States it seems Brenda Andrew and
00:37:37
James pavot are planning to celebrate
00:37:40
another holiday Christmas with the
00:37:42
children South of the
00:37:44
Border they left Jan Larson's house in
00:37:47
vehicles heading south they were headed
00:37:49
to Mexico what she thought and we also
00:37:52
knew that they didn't have a lot of
00:37:54
money uh most of the money had already
00:37:56
been frozen in their accounts and
00:37:58
eventually the money may run out and it
00:38:00
might help us capture the detectives
00:38:03
were doing everything they could to look
00:38:05
for them and it went on for
00:38:07
[Music]
00:38:10
months it was a tough Thanksgiving and a
00:38:13
tougher Christmas in a way because they
00:38:15
were
00:38:17
gone nobody knew where they
00:38:20
were were they alive we didn't
00:38:25
know everyone was really concerned for
00:38:28
the
00:38:28
[Music]
00:38:31
kids but also just wanting Justice for
00:38:36
Rob and it with every day they were gone
00:38:38
it was just more and more infuriating
00:38:40
that they were going to get away with
00:38:42
[Music]
00:38:49
it after the brutal murder of her
00:38:52
husband Rob Brenda Andrew and her sex
00:38:56
partner James pav fought take her two
00:38:59
children they flee to Mexico during the
00:39:02
holidays Rob Andrew's family and friends
00:39:04
are forced to spend Christmas not just
00:39:07
without him but without his children too
00:39:10
meanwhile detectives are piecing
00:39:13
together the details of Rob's
00:39:15
[Music]
00:39:16
murder what happened on the night of
00:39:18
November 20th 2001 was predetermined
00:39:23
Brenda had planned this she knew that
00:39:26
Rob was coming to to pick up his
00:39:30
children she asked him to come into the
00:39:32
garage and light the pilot light knowing
00:39:35
all long that she was luring him to his
00:39:40
death and Pat was already in the
00:39:45
garage he came around probably from
00:39:47
behind the
00:39:48
minivan shot him with the first
00:39:51
shot she took the shotgun shot him with
00:39:56
the second shot
00:40:00
and then vat took the 22 and shot her in
00:40:04
the
00:40:04
[Music]
00:40:08
arm he left the house go next door she
00:40:12
went in the house CAU out one
00:40:15
more I've been shot my husband's been
00:40:18
shot okay you and your husand have both
00:40:21
been shot yes who shot
00:40:24
you I don't know was
00:40:27
I don't know they had on black mask I
00:40:29
don't know oh my God there's blood
00:40:32
everywhere it was some evil a lot of
00:40:34
evil going on with Brenda she was all
00:40:37
about money she wanted that insurance
00:40:39
[Music]
00:40:41
money weeks turn into months hope fading
00:40:45
that Rob Andrews Killers will ever be
00:40:48
brought to Justice the warrants were out
00:40:51
for the arrest of Brenda and James but
00:40:54
they were no longer in the country it's
00:40:57
much harder to capture somebody when
00:41:00
they're out of your
00:41:02
jurisdiction once they cross the border
00:41:05
they warn was going to be something that
00:41:06
Mexican authorities could arrest them
00:41:09
on but then at some point James Pat
00:41:12
started calling
00:41:16
Jana she had a conversation with her
00:41:19
father who was in Mexico with Brenda
00:41:21
they were running out of money and
00:41:23
didn't know what to
00:41:26
do the FBI worked with Jana to lur James
00:41:31
and Brenda back to the United States
00:41:33
where they could be
00:41:36
arrested Janna promised her dad that she
00:41:40
could get them money James pavot is out
00:41:43
of options the couple on the run and
00:41:46
they need money he agrees to his
00:41:48
daughter's plan and he returns to the
00:41:53
US police notify border officials to be
00:41:56
on the lookout
00:41:57
[Music]
00:41:58
3 months after the murder they came back
00:42:01
to the border and one of the border
00:42:04
patrol agents was familiar with the
00:42:06
bulletin that was
00:42:09
out we got the phone
00:42:12
call they were
00:42:20
captured they were taken into custody
00:42:23
and charged with the murder of Rob
00:42:25
Andrew
00:42:28
the kids were found unharmed and they
00:42:31
were sent to be with Rob's
00:42:37
family it was such a relief to hear that
00:42:41
knowing that Brenda and James were
00:42:42
caught but knowing the kids were safe
00:42:45
that was even
00:42:47
[Music]
00:42:50
better James Pat's trial was first it
00:42:54
lasted a few weeks the key witness at
00:42:56
the trial was a V daughter
00:42:59
Jan you always wonder like you know the
00:43:03
jury doesn't know Rob like I know Rob
00:43:06
are they going to get it right we always
00:43:09
worried that they're going to get away
00:43:10
with it but luckily they
00:43:13
didn't James was convicted of the
00:43:16
first-degree murder of Rob Andrew and he
00:43:18
was sentenced to
00:43:24
death August 2004 Brenda Andrew's trial
00:43:29
begins when I saw her again at trial she
00:43:34
didn't have any remorse in her face or
00:43:36
her
00:43:43
actions I think the timing of Brenda's
00:43:46
crime was purely opportunistic she knew
00:43:51
that Rob was going to come and get those
00:43:53
children for the holiday and he would
00:43:56
probably have his guard down here
00:44:00
is a father showing up to get his kids
00:44:04
on his way to celebrate a beautiful
00:44:07
holiday with his family and his children
00:44:12
and
00:44:13
just how could you do
00:44:17
that I mean I do believe in evil and I
00:44:20
do believe she is evil within a month
00:44:23
Brenda Andrew is found guilty for the
00:44:25
murder of husband Rob and she is
00:44:28
sentenced to the death penalty having
00:44:30
here to found that defendant Brenda iers
00:44:33
Andrew guilty of murder in the first
00:44:35
degree fix her punishment at
00:44:38
death when I heard that first James was
00:44:42
found guilty and then especially when
00:44:45
Brenda was found guilty uh I was
00:44:48
overjoyed I was so happy that they
00:44:51
didn't get away with it as clever as she
00:44:54
thought she was all the steps they had
00:44:56
taken
00:44:57
they underestimated the way things
00:45:00
work to orchestrate and commit a crime
00:45:03
killing the father of the children
00:45:06
Thanksgiving
00:45:08
time it had to be a a evil vindictive
00:45:12
person you know you reap what you s
00:45:15
James pavot is currently sitting on the
00:45:18

00:45:40
Thanksgiving it's just impossible not
00:45:43
to he sort of embodied the idea of the
00:45:46
holidays the spirit of the holidays you
00:45:48
know being with your family being
00:45:50
thankful for what you have cherishing
00:45:52
those times that that was who he was
00:45:57
so I always want to think about his life
00:46:00
and not his death and be thankful for uh
00:46:03
the time that I did get with
00:46:07
[Music]
00:46:11
him what should have been a wonderful
00:46:15
and joyous holiday Shattered by cheating
00:46:19
infidelity and murder a horrible and
00:46:23
tragic end to the marriage of a loving
00:46:26
