Unsolved Mysteries with Dennis Farina - Season 1, Episode 6 - Full Episode

March 09, 2017 / 42:52

This episode of Unsolved Mysteries covers the cases of Matthew McC, a Texas killer, the disappearance of Monica Rizzo, and crop circles in Canada.

In Texas, a woman named Sue confronts an intruder wielding a knife. After a brief struggle, she identifies the attacker as Edward Harold Bell, a wanted criminal linked to multiple violent crimes and the murder of Larry Dickens. Bell was eventually captured in Panama after years on the run.

The episode also discusses the mysterious disappearance of Monica Rizzo from San Antonio, Texas. Her husband, Leonard, initially did not report her missing. Police later discovered human bones in their backyard, leading to questions about Leonard's involvement. DNA tests confirmed the bones belonged to Monica, but insufficient evidence prevented charges against Leonard.

Lastly, the episode features bizarre crop circles in Canada, specifically outside Edmonton, Alberta. Farmers Rusty Emanuel and Telly Whitman report strange formations in their fields. Researchers find evidence suggesting these formations may not be man-made, leading to speculation about extraterrestrial involvement.

The episode highlights the unresolved nature of these cases, urging viewers to provide any information that could assist in solving them.

TL;DR

Texas killer Edward Harold Bell is captured, Monica Rizzo's disappearance remains unsolved, and unexplained crop circles baffle researchers in Canada.

Brian Texas is small and quiet not the
00:01:35
type of place where you'd expect a runin
00:01:37
with a cold blooded killer but as a
00:01:39
woman we call Sue can tell you it never
00:01:42
hurts to be
00:01:44
prepared well it start like any other
00:01:47

00:01:50
my husband left and I went back into the
00:01:51
bathroom in the master bedroom to finish
00:01:54
getting
00:01:55

00:02:37
was expecting me to do that I think he
00:02:40
probably was expecting me to plead with
00:02:41
him not to do anything and I reverse the
00:02:44
situation on him Sue had seen the man up
00:02:47
close but authorities were unable to
00:02:54
[Applause]
00:02:58
identify again
00:03:01
she and her husband tried to put the
00:03:03
incident behind them then four months
00:03:06
later Sue got another look at the
00:03:09
attacker I was going through the
00:03:11
newspaper and I opened it up and his
00:03:14
picture was in the
00:03:17
newspaper that's the guy what that's the
00:03:20
guy I need this guy and I was just
00:03:22
shocked to have found out what he had
00:03:23
done that's him right there the
00:03:26
newspaper listed the state's most wanted
00:03:28
criminals and right at the top was the
00:03:31
knife wielding
00:03:33
Intruder his name was Edward Harold
00:03:40
Bell Edward Harold Bell had a wrap sheet
00:03:43
a mile long highlighted by aggravated
00:03:46
rape and several counts of indecent
00:03:49
exposure to Children Sue also learned
00:03:53
that Bell was wanted for
00:03:57
murder Pasadena Texas
00:04:01
26-year-old Larry Dickens grew up in
00:04:04

00:04:17
was cutting our lawn for us I was
00:04:20
standing at the kitchen
00:04:21
window and there were a lot of children
00:04:24
playing in the intersection right by our
00:04:27
house I saw this
00:04:30
pickup truck drive
00:04:34
up he parked and he got out of his
00:04:38

00:05:43

00:05:48

00:05:51
anyway and then he turned and started
00:05:54
running out of our garage and Larry even
00:05:57
with all those bullets in him was still
00:06:00
trying to stop this
00:06:02
man he had been shot four times in the
00:06:05
chest and once in the head with a 22
00:06:08
caliber
00:06:11
pistol Larry's mother rushed back to the
00:06:13
phone the emergency operator was still
00:06:16
on the line police units and an
00:06:18
ambulance were already on the way give
00:06:21
me an ambulance oh God he's got a rifle
00:06:24
he's he's
00:06:27
going at that same moment Larry's
00:06:30
17-year-old sister Donna drove up the
00:06:33
street I pulled up to the stop sign and
00:06:36
I saw a man cross the street to the edge
00:06:39
of my
00:06:44
driveway and I looked and I got a good
00:06:46
close look at the man and I tried to
00:06:48
block his
00:06:50
exit and I realized he had just shot my
00:06:55
brother
00:06:58
Larry
00:07:01
I just started screaming and I just
00:07:03
screamed and screamed and then when I
00:07:06
couldn't scream
00:07:07
anymore I remember I just went over and
00:07:09
I knelt down beside my
00:07:11
brother and I watched him

Edward Bell was ready to kill again but
00:08:17
his M1 rifle suddenly
00:08:20
[Applause]
00:08:27
jammed what your hands
00:08:32
up don't move drop the gun back away
00:08:37
back away from it within 20 minutes of
00:08:39
the murder Bell was headed straight back
00:08:42
to the crime scene so that Larry's
00:08:44
family could identify
00:08:46
him they opened the back door of the
00:08:49
police car so that I could see him
00:08:51
better yeah that's
00:08:55
[Music]
00:08:57
him you I just wanted to get my hands on
00:09:01
him it hurts me so bad that he killed my
00:09:04
brother there's always going to be an
00:09:07
emptiness it's never going to be re
00:09:10
United I mean part of me is
00:09:13
missing incredibly Edward Bell was
00:09:16
released on bail he promptly cashed in
00:09:20
$140,000 of assets and
00:09:23
disappeared he's not leaving a paper
00:09:26
trail probably he's changed his name
00:09:29
name and he's living somewhere where
00:09:33
someone doesn't know how dangerous he
00:09:35
[Music]
00:09:37
is it just doesn't seem right that this
00:09:40
man can be back on the
00:09:43
streets when Larry has been dead all
00:09:46
these years and he's still at
00:09:50
large
00:09:51
update when this story aired at least
00:09:54
two viewers recognized Edward Bell one
00:09:57
said he recently met Bell during a
00:10:00
business trip to Panama City
00:10:02
Panama the other viewer sent these
00:10:05
pictures and a letter claiming that Bell
00:10:07
had lived in Panama for several years he
00:10:10
was prospecting for gold on land near
00:10:12
Panama City the Panama police were able
00:10:16
to locate Mr Bell at which time they
00:10:19
placed him under arrest and uh the FBI
00:10:22
along with the Panama City Police
00:10:25
Department then brought Mr Bell back to
00:10:27
the United States Larry's mother and
00:10:29
sister were at the airport when Belle
00:10:32
arrived finally a decade and a half
00:10:34
after Dorothy Lang's son had been gunned
00:10:36
down before her eyes his accused killer
00:10:39
shuffled past her Shackled In hand and
00:10:42
leg
00:10:43
cuffs when he got off the airplane he
00:10:46
seemed so arrogant and it it just
00:10:48
infuriated me here they're bringing this
00:10:51
murderer back and they could never bring
00:10:53
back my
00:10:55
son the wounds will never heal the hurt
00:10:58
will always be there that I've lost my
00:11:01
brother but at least Justice will be
00:11:04
done and I think we'll all be able to go
00:11:07
on with our
00:11:09
lives Edward Harold Bell was convicted
00:11:12
of murder and sentenced to 70 years in
00:11:14
prison he has since been named as a
00:11:17
person of interest in the murders of six
00:11:19
young girls in the Galveston Texas area
00:11:22
Bell will be eligible for parole in the
00:11:25
year

00:11:36
happened to Monica Rizzo and later

Amnesia a man hits the road with only
00:11:42
$17 and little idea who he is or where
00:11:46
he's
00:11:56
gone San Antonio Texas
00:12:01
when 44-year-old Monica rizle left her
00:12:03
office she didn't take her purse she
00:12:06
didn't even say goodbye she just walked
00:12:09
out the door and never
00:12:13
returned Monica's husband Leonard claims
00:12:16
she came home that afternoon he says a
00:12:18
few days later when he woke up in the
00:12:20
morning she was gone but he never
00:12:23
reported her disappearance to the police
00:12:26
I was very confused it made no sense my
00:12:29
wife and I were very close there was no
00:12:30
reason for me to believe she wouldn't be
00:12:32
coming back wherever she gone uh I just
00:12:36
I I have faith in her I just chose to
00:12:43
wait hello can I help you is this the
00:12:46
San Antonio police yes it is like to
00:12:48
report a murder okay a woman Monica rzo
00:12:52
was
00:12:54
murdered it sounded like a gruesome
00:12:56
prank the anonymous caller said that
00:12:59
Monica Rizzo had been murdered by her
00:13:01
husband and that there were bones in her
00:13:04
backyard to prove
00:13:06
it the San Antonio police wasted no
00:13:12
time at the Rizzo house Monica's oldest
00:13:15
son answered the door he told the police
00:13:17
that he was just visiting and that he
00:13:19
hadn't seen his mother in a week you
00:13:22
know when she's expected back no you
00:13:25
mind if we have a look around no that's
00:13:27
that's fine thank you
00:13:29
Monica's clothes still hung in the
00:13:30
closet her car was parked in the
00:13:33
driveway nothing seemed to be missing
00:13:35
except Monica
00:13:38
Rizo in the backyard detectives did find
00:13:42
bones but they clearly belonged to some
00:13:44
kind of an animal the anonymous caller
00:13:48
appeared to be
00:13:52
wrong hell you need to go back and
00:13:54
search their house again Leonard Rizzo
00:13:56
killed his wife the bones are in the
00:13:59
backyard they're under a Pilot Tires by
00:14:01
the fence again the police responded out
00:14:03
there uh along with some homicide
00:14:05
detectives that went out there and take
00:14:06
a look and they did find some what
00:14:09
appeared to be human
00:14:14
[Music]
00:14:16
bones detectives collected a skull a
00:14:19
number of bone fragments and even a bag
00:14:21
filled with what appeared to be human
00:14:24
flesh Tom take a look at this Leonard
00:14:26
Rizzo had some explaining to do
00:14:28
[Music]
00:14:30
there in my yard are an absolute mystery
00:14:33
to me as as big a mystery as my wife's
00:14:38
disappearance uh to me there's to me
00:14:42
there's no question to me I'm someone is
00:14:45
trying to draw attention from themselves
00:14:47
someone is doing this to
00:14:49
me detectives learned that on another
00:14:52
occasion Monica's co-workers had been so
00:14:54
worried when she didn't show up for work
00:14:56
that they asked the police to check on
00:14:58
her at home yeah are you okay yes I'm
00:15:03
fine it looks like there's some bruising
00:15:05
on your face no I just failed I I'm fine
00:15:09
you sure you're okay
00:15:14
yes there was no domestic abuse there
00:15:16
was no domestic violence my wife and I
00:15:19
were deeply in love we are deeply in
00:15:22
love initial DNA test on the bones in
00:15:25
the Rizzo's backyard proved they were
00:15:27
human but whose bones were
00:15:32
they police brought in a team of
00:15:34
archaeologists from the University of
00:15:37
Texas we literally crawled across this
00:15:40
area using our trials and moving the
00:15:42
roots and the moving the grass blades
00:15:44
and looking down beneath the grass and
00:15:47
every time we found a bone fragment or
00:15:48
something the police department
00:15:50
considered might be evidence we' put an
00:15:52
orange pin flag out before they were
00:15:54
done the yard was dotted with dozens of
00:15:57
orange Flags
00:15:59
when you find bone in an old
00:16:01
archaeological site the bone is very dry
00:16:03
this bone still had a greasy feel to it
00:16:06
so we knew it had not been there uh very
00:16:10
long but at the same time it had been
00:16:11
there more than a week or a couple weeks
00:16:14
there was no soft tissue still attached
00:16:16
to it there were bones everywhere even
00:16:20
inside the barbecue grill I picked it up
00:16:23
and looked at it and I was sure it was a
00:16:25
human handbone because it has a
00:16:27
distinctive shape Al it's very small
00:16:29
maybe a half an inch or so what you got
00:16:31
the archaeologists found even more bones
00:16:34
in the barbecue all of them from human
00:16:36
hands sure for 8 Days Dr hard and his
00:16:40
team collected bone fragments 200 in all
00:16:43
most had been chopped into pieces Less
00:16:45
Than 3 in
00:16:47
long we felt it was some kind of machine
00:16:50
some type of chipper shredder has been
00:16:52
discussed quite a bit it's the only
00:16:54
machine that we can come up with that
00:16:56
could possibly account for this type
00:16:58
type of
00:16:59
breakage you wouldn't get it with a saw
00:17:01
you wouldn't get it with a knife you
00:17:04
wouldn't get it with a a lawn mower we
00:17:07
can't think of anything else that would
00:17:08
break up bone like
00:17:10
this once again Leonard Rizzo had some
00:17:13
explaining to do I have never even
00:17:15
operated a wood chipper I have never
00:17:17
renting rented anything in a rental
00:17:20
store uh other than a car dolly uh maybe
00:17:25
trailer uh no I
00:17:29
do not did not operate a wood chipper
00:17:32
never have the lack of a conclusive DNA
00:17:35
test or other hard evidence meant that
00:17:38
no arrest could be made Leonard Rizzo
00:17:41
continued to insist that he had nothing
00:17:43
to do with his wife's disappearance or
00:17:45
the bones in his backyard those bone
00:17:48
fragments and such where they came from
00:17:50
I don't know how they got there I don't
00:17:52
know and I adamantly did not kill them
00:17:55
or anyone
00:17:57
else
00:17:59
update for two years there were no new
00:18:02
developments in this case then Leonard
00:18:05
Rizzo was arrested for attacking his
00:18:07
girlfriend he was convicted on four
00:18:10
criminal counts including assault with a
00:18:12
deadly weapon and
00:18:14
kidnapping later DNA tests revealed that
00:18:17
all the bone fragments were in fact
00:18:19
those of Monica Rizza but the district
00:18:23
attorney still whacks enough evidence to
00:18:25
file charges if you have any information

00:19:44
he has no one to
00:19:46
call then I realized I couldn't phone
00:19:49
anybody and that's when I realized I
00:19:52
didn't know anybody including
00:19:55
me those first few minutes
00:19:58
you're literally nothing and
00:20:02
you feel so
00:20:04
empty it's very lonely and painful to be
00:20:08
[Music]
00:20:11
empty searching his duffel bag he found
00:20:14
a single clue tucked in a shirt
00:20:17
pocket a library card from the Boston
00:20:20
Public Library handwritten on the back
00:20:23
was a
00:20:24
name April
00:20:27
Pierre it struck me that must be me it's
00:20:30
in my belonging it's with my socks it's
00:20:32
with my shirts it's with my things the
00:20:34
name brought back hazy memories of San
00:20:37
Diego California 400 m
00:20:40
away Pierre only had $17 he would have
00:20:44
to
00:20:48
hitchhike 3 Days Later Pierre was
00:20:50
wandering the Streets of San dieo
00:20:52
searching for something anything that
00:20:54
might tell him who he
00:20:57
was I was so sure this city would bring
00:21:00
everything back but I saw downtown and
00:21:04
said nothing I looked at the building
00:21:06
and they meant nothing and uh I walked
00:21:10
the streets of the city for a long
00:21:13
time fearing for his sanity Pierre took
00:21:16
Refuge at the St Vincent dep Paul
00:21:18
homeless
00:21:20
shelter we've had cases of people
00:21:22
pretending they didn't know who they
00:21:24
were but Pierre was very unique
00:21:28
sometimes in the other cases the
00:21:30
residents are after something and that
00:21:31
wasn't Pierre's case at all he didn't
00:21:33
ask for anything he didn't even ask for
00:21:37
help after 6 months of physical and
00:21:40
psychological examinations doctors could
00:21:43
find no cause for Pierre's memory loss
00:21:46
their best guess he was suffering from
00:21:49
trauma induced
00:21:52
Amnesia while at St Vincent Pierre
00:21:55
concentrated on Reviving his lost memory
00:21:58
and soon fragments of his former self
00:22:01
began to
00:22:02
emerge Pierre apparently knew a lot
00:22:05
about physics advanced math and
00:22:08
computers he even became convinced that
00:22:11
he could fly an
00:22:14
[Music]
00:22:15
airplane Pierre also found that he had a
00:22:17
talent for music and learned to play the
00:22:19
guitar in just a few
00:22:23
hours tell me something about to help
00:22:26
Pier make sense of his fragmented me
00:22:28
memories we set up a meeting with a
00:22:30
police sketch
00:22:32
artist Two portraits were created
00:22:34
portraits of people who may have been
00:22:36
significant in Pierre's past Pierre
00:22:40
believed the first was his cousin Luke
00:22:42
nicknamed curly the second drawing
00:22:46
showed a woman Pierre recalled working
00:22:48
with he thought her name might be
00:22:53
Carol if I try to remember something too
00:22:56
hard I get a beautiful headache that I
00:22:58
wouldn't want to inflict on my worst
00:23:01
enemy and most recently like those last
00:23:04
few days if I try not to remember
00:23:06
something that's coming back I get the
00:23:08
same thing I I just want to find out
00:23:12
what the past
00:23:13
is if I
00:23:17
can
00:23:19
update on the night of our broadcast the
00:23:22
woman Pierre called Carol recognized him
00:23:25
as a former employee she she confirmed
00:23:28
that his name is in fact Pierre
00:23:32
Ariel Carol contacted Pierre and told
00:23:36
him that he has two sisters and that his
00:23:38
parents live in Leen Canada where his
00:23:41
father practices medicine the next day
00:23:43
Pierre talked to his dad for the first
00:23:45
time in more than 5 months it was a very
00:23:49
emotional moment and then I even had to
00:23:52
tell him that I couldn't even trust him
00:23:54
100% that I wanted a
00:23:56
package with family pictures in it and
00:23:59
with my birth certificate in it when the
00:24:02
package arrived Pierre and his fiance a
00:24:05
woman he met in San Diego sat down with
00:24:07
a friend to get a first look at Pierre's
00:24:11
long lost past it is strange to be told
00:24:15
who you are and what you did I'm someone
00:24:19
again and for quite a few months I was
00:24:23
nobody and
00:24:24
nothing thanks to our audience Pierre a
00:24:28
has recovered his memory of his past and
00:24:31
his
00:24:35
life coming up strange lights and
00:24:38
bizarre formations are they connected to
00:24:41
forces that we can't explain but a case
00:24:46
with all the trademarks of an organized
00:24:48
hit except a
00:24:55
[Music]
00:24:56
body
00:24:59
on a recent broadcast we profile the
00:25:02
disturbing case of Wendy long Bye Mom
00:25:05
bye sweetie she left her home in kusada
00:25:08
Louisiana for a weekend in shreport and
00:25:10
never came
00:25:12
[Music]
00:25:14
back on the way to streetport Wendy
00:25:17
picked up two friends for an afternoon
00:25:19
of
00:25:20
shopping later the trio hooked up with a
00:25:23
Young Man known only as
00:25:26
Tommy
00:25:29
that night they all hit a party at
00:25:31
another friend's
00:25:33
house and I'm told that Wendy had quite
00:25:36
a bit to drink that night when it came
00:25:39
time for them to take Tommy back home
00:25:43
she didn't want to drive in fact she
00:25:45
didn't want to go with them at
00:25:48
all Tommy later claimed that he was
00:25:51
worried about Wendy so he went back to
00:25:53
the party in his own
00:25:56
car Wendy then accepted his offer of a
00:25:59
ride home on the way Tommy said he
00:26:02
stopped for gas and a quart of
00:26:04
oil when he came back out Wendy was
00:26:08
talking to two young men in a black
00:26:10
Chevy truck hey Tommy come here this is
00:26:13
Mike and
00:26:15
Zant Tommy said that it appeared that
00:26:18
she knew them and Wendy told Tommy at
00:26:21
that point not to worry about it that
00:26:24
she was going to go with them and they
00:26:26
were going to get her home I will get
00:26:28
home okay just go home according to
00:26:32
Tommy Wendy left with the two men Tommy
00:26:35
says he never saw her
00:26:37
again when police questioned Tommy about
00:26:40
that night he agreed to take a lie
00:26:42
detector
00:26:43
test he
00:26:46
passed Tommy even gave a detailed
00:26:49
description of the two men the police
00:26:51
investigated and found nothing but de
00:26:56
ends
00:27:00
update 5 months after Wendy's
00:27:02
disappearance Tommy whose real name was
00:27:05
Robert Stewart was arrested for check
00:27:08
fraud that was enough for the police to
00:27:10
take another look at his connection to
00:27:13
Wendy
00:27:14
long I think in just looking at him as a
00:27:19
possible suspect instead of a possible
00:27:21
witness they started pointing out
00:27:24
inconsistencies in his story steuart
00:27:28
story wasn't just inconsistent this is
00:27:30
Mike and Z it was a total lie when the
00:27:34
information continued to turn up faults
00:27:37
and the story broke down Mr Stewart
00:27:39
began to break down he then confessed to
00:27:42
raping Wendy long and murdering her by
00:27:45
shooting her twice in the
00:27:48
head during one of the subsequent
00:27:50
interviews Mr seart gave investigators
00:27:53
the location of the body investigators
00:27:55
went to that location and found
00:27:58
what appeared to be human remains those
00:28:00
remains ultimately were determined to be
00:28:03
the remains of Wendy
00:28:04
long Robert Stewart pled guilty to the
00:28:07
rape and first-degree murder of Wendy
00:28:09
long he is now in the Louisiana State
00:28:12
Penitentiary at Angola where he will
00:28:14
most likely spend the rest of his
00:28:22
life the barren lifeless desert of
00:28:26
Southern Arizona
00:28:28
if someone wanted to commit a crime or
00:28:30
maybe cover one up there are few better
00:28:33
places than the middle of this desert
00:28:35
100 m south of
00:28:38
[Music]
00:28:42
Phoenix it's unlikely anyone will ever
00:28:45
discover what happened here but perhaps
00:28:48
someone watching tonight can provide a
00:28:51
[Music]
00:28:55
clue the car was still still on fire
00:28:58
when a deputy sheriff arrived
00:29:00
authorities believe that whoever set the
00:29:02
fire was interested in destroying
00:29:04
evidence evidence of a much bigger crime
00:29:09
murder the car was burned to the ground
00:29:12
and the fact is that had there been any
00:29:14
evidence in the car such as blood uh we
00:29:17
weren't able to tell because of the the
00:29:20
burning the car belonged to a
00:29:22
56-year-old Bank executive Lee Young
00:29:25
Lee's job was to investigate possible
00:29:27
fraud cases against his Bank in
00:29:31
Scottsdale when they gave me the
00:29:33
information the car was burned and Lee
00:29:35
wasn't there then my wildest fears just
00:29:38
became a
00:29:40
reality cuz you live with that every day
00:29:43
that something could
00:29:44
happen but you just don't really believe
00:29:47
it ever will had Lee Young been murdered
00:29:50
and his body dumped in the desert there
00:29:52
was an obvious motive young always wore
00:29:56
a very distinctive and very expensive
00:29:58
Rolex watch plus he always carried large
00:30:02
amounts of cash to buy jewelry which he
00:30:04
sold in his spare
00:30:06
time when police opened Lee's trunk they
00:30:09
were in for a big surprise it was
00:30:12
jewelry worth thousands of dollars his
00:30:14
Rolex watch had been taken but why was
00:30:17
the rest of the jewelry left
00:30:20
behind you want to get another one the
00:30:22
only thing missing out of that trunk of
00:30:23
that car that I am aware of is the
00:30:27
briefcase that carried his files so that
00:30:30
makes me believe that it wasn't robbery
00:30:32
motive it was case related of some
00:30:35
sort the robbery Theory lost steam but
00:30:39
another motive took its place oh my
00:30:41
calls Lee Young had recently contacted
00:30:44
federal drug agents he suspected that
00:30:46
his bank was being used by a money
00:30:49
laundering ring our sources in New York
00:30:51
have traced from South America was
00:30:54
investigating a major drug cartel in
00:30:56
columb IIA within 6 months prior to his
00:30:59
disappearance and the case was still
00:31:01
ongoing as a matter of fact at the time
00:31:04
of his
00:31:06
disappearance police pieced together
00:31:08
Young's movements before he disappeared
00:31:11
he left the restaurant in Scottsdale at
00:31:12
around 12:30 p.m. he was never seen
00:31:16
again however Lee or someone else did
00:31:19
use his car phone later that
00:31:23
afternoon a single call came in over
00:31:25
Young's car phone and three calls were
00:31:28
dialed out one went to a phone booth the
00:31:31
others to a woman who denied ever
00:31:34
talking to Lee on the
00:31:36
phone I don't know for a fact that Lee
00:31:38
made these calls in fact it's possible
00:31:41
that Lee was taken down prior to 2:00
00:31:44
Friday afternoon and that uh the three
00:31:46
calls made after 2:00 were made by uh
00:31:50
somebody
00:31:52
else everything points to the fact that
00:31:55
Lee's not alive my my heart still says
00:31:58
he's out there
00:32:00
somewhere but logic tells me he's
00:32:05
not critical information is still
00:32:08
missing in this case who made the phone
00:32:10
calls who torched the car did Lee die in
00:32:14
a robbery gone wrong or did his
00:32:17
investigation into a moneya laundering
00:32:19
operation for a drug cartel get him
00:32:22
killed Connie young hopes that someone
00:32:25
saw her husband's Plum color Lincoln
00:32:27
Town Car between the time he left the
00:32:30
restaurant and the time the car was
00:32:32
found in Flames the next day she also
00:32:35
hopes someone might have seen his copper
00:32:37
faced Rolex watch it has diamonds
00:32:40
encircling the face and on the
00:32:42
band if you have any information about
00:32:45
what happened to Lee Young please log on
00:32:47
to our website at unsolved.com
00:32:52
next it's a mystery that just keeps
00:32:54
showing up the crop Circle invasion of
00:32:58
western
00:33:05
Canada these days almost everyone knows
00:33:08
about crop circles geometric designs
00:33:10
that seem to appear out of nowhere of
00:33:14
the 10,000 documented cases 80% are
00:33:17
proven hoaxes and the other
00:33:21
20% well that's when it gets
00:33:25
interesting
00:33:29
the Canadian Prairie outside of Edmonton
00:33:33
Alberta the farmers you'll find here are
00:33:35
about as down to earth as anyone it
00:33:38
takes a lot to surprise folks like Rusty
00:33:41
Emanuel and Telly
00:33:43
Whitman hey but this formation that
00:33:45
showed up on their land was enough to do
00:33:49
the
00:33:50
trick the grain was all flattened down
00:33:54
and it almost looked like a patter and
00:33:56
like petals the way the grain came out
00:33:57
and then the heads turned back in
00:33:59
towards the center
00:34:00
again it was just
00:34:03
amazing it was just like you see on
00:34:05
television seven precise circles pressed
00:34:08
into a field of Thistle and barley I got
00:34:11
a hold of the city police the city
00:34:13
police did come out uh he was totally
00:34:18
amazed the Canadian crop circle research
00:34:21
Network a volunteer organization that
00:34:24
documents these cases wasted no time to
00:34:27
the site Judy art is one of the group's
00:34:30
field
00:34:32
researchers it looked like a place had
00:34:34
been electrocuted it was just
00:34:40
amazing looked like there had been a
00:34:42
huge force of some
00:34:46
sort Skeptics were quick to dismiss the
00:34:48
whole Affair as a hoax as once shown in
00:34:51
a
00:34:52
documentary pranksters could be seen
00:34:54
making a crop circle they call their cre
00:34:57
a human Land Art it was very clear to us
00:35:00
that it hadn't been flattened by
00:35:02
somebody out there with planks and
00:35:03
Boards you can't do that to thistle it
00:35:06
was very densely grown and it would be
00:35:09
very difficult for anybody to get in
00:35:10
without leaving tracks
00:35:13
[Applause]
00:35:15
behind Paul Anderson director of the
00:35:18
cccn has studied many of the circles in
00:35:21
western Canada well anybody can go up
00:35:23
with a board and flattened on wheat and
00:35:25
yet something you have to take into
00:35:27
account is it's not just the formation
00:35:29
itself but it's the complexity of How
00:35:30
It's actually constructed like multiple
00:35:33
layers going in different directions one
00:35:35
on top of the other and so
00:35:38
on at the Edmonton site Judy AR
00:35:41
carefully documented each of the circles
00:35:44
within the
00:35:45
formation she also gathered up crop and
00:35:48
soil samples for scientific
00:35:52
analysis the samples were sent to Nancy
00:35:55
Talbot in Cambridge Massachusetts
00:35:57
Nancy works with a network of scientists
00:36:00
who have studied more than 350 crop
00:36:02
circle cases from eight different
00:36:05
countries the three major changes in
00:36:08
plants in The Real McCoy as opposed to
00:36:11
man-made crop circles are node
00:36:14
elongation expulsion cavities at the
00:36:17
nodes and germination
00:36:20
abnormalities each of these conditions
00:36:23
was present in the Edmonton sample in
00:36:25
other words the characteristics of the
00:36:27
crops were profoundly altered in ways
00:36:30
that could not be induced by humans
00:36:33
using ropes and
00:36:34
Boards the geometry is precise there are
00:36:38
no tracks in or out the plants are not
00:36:42
damaged they're bent over they're not
00:36:44
knuckled or broken the plants are
00:36:47
changed in their internal structure at
00:36:49
the cellular level you don't find that
00:36:52
in the
00:36:53
hoax the soil samples from Edmonton were
00:36:56
sent to Dr sanath irar in California Dr
00:37:00
irar specializes in materials
00:37:03
analysis we went ahead and looked at the
00:37:06
minerology of the Clays using a
00:37:09
technique called x-ray powder defraction
00:37:12
the results showed a dramatic difference
00:37:14
between soil samples taken from inside
00:37:17
the crop circle compared to those taken
00:37:19
from outside the
00:37:21
circle this has been seen by geologists
00:37:24
before but in a geologic time over
00:37:27
several millions of years this has to be
00:37:30
some kind of fantastic energy that's
00:37:33
causing this
00:37:34
change and I don't have any idea what it
00:37:38
is there are almost as many theories as
00:37:41
there are circles everything from
00:37:44
geothermal and magnetic forces to some
00:37:46
kind of cosmic energy we looked at
00:37:49
meteorology we looked at Earth energies
00:37:52
we looked at chemical application of the
00:37:53
farmers and all of them led to a blank
00:37:57
it just did not
00:37:59
fit what we now know is we have a solid
00:38:02
mystery this cannot be explained uh in
00:38:05
the terms of people making them we have
00:38:07
many hundreds that are absolutely
00:38:10
certainly not man-made and and that is a
00:38:14
a a solid fact there is one final theory
00:38:18
if it can't be explained here on Earth
00:38:21
then look to the
00:38:23
sky I was contacted by a young couple
00:38:27
who had been driving uh along in the
00:38:30
late evening in North Edmonton and he
00:38:33
looked out the window and saw some
00:38:36
lights and rolled down the window to
00:38:38
make sure it wasn't just reflection on
00:38:40
his passenger side window what is that
00:38:42
and the lights were still there he got
00:38:44
quite excited about it and asked his
00:38:46
wife to pull
00:38:49
over there were two small lights
00:38:52
brilliant bluish and they said these two
00:38:55
lights looked like they were playing tag
00:38:56
with each
00:38:59
[Music]
00:39:01
other this sighting occurred about a
00:39:05
week before the uh crop circle formation
00:39:08
was
00:39:10
found around that same time Rusty Manuel
00:39:13
and Telly Whitman had a light show of
00:39:16
their own what's
00:39:18
that first you thought it was a
00:39:20
helicopter because it moved like a
00:39:21
helicopter but still there was no other
00:39:24
lights on it it was just bright and
00:39:27
would just hover over the field and sort
00:39:29
of move off and then come back again I
00:39:32
never seen it like that I tried to
00:39:34
picture it it being an aircraft but it
00:39:36
was too much too big for an aircraft
00:39:39
that's no airplane and it just seemed
00:39:41
like it passed over the back end of the
00:39:43
pickup and it just it just disappeared
00:39:45
it just was so
00:39:48
fast was there a connection between the
00:39:51
strange lights and the sudden appearance
00:39:53
of the Edmonton craft circuit we took
00:39:56
that that question to Seth Shack senior
00:39:59
astronomer at The seti Institute in
00:40:01
Mountain View California I believe that
00:40:04
the aliens are out there but I don't
00:40:07
think that they're visiting here the
00:40:09
fact that so many people feel that there
00:40:12
may be something unusual going on here I
00:40:15
think Bes speaks a psychological need
00:40:17
that we all have to to believe that
00:40:18
there are some powers that we don't
00:40:21
understand and after all it's much more
00:40:23
interesting to think that this pattern
00:40:25
in the weed here was graffiti from
00:40:28
beings from another world than to think
00:40:29
that it was students from the local
00:40:31
University that's not a terribly
00:40:33
interesting
00:40:34
story but there are crop circles that
00:40:37
simply defy logic formations that show
00:40:41
no sign of human
00:40:42
intervention this giant Star of David
00:40:46
literally appeared overnight in red dear
00:40:48
Alberta not far from Edmonton it
00:40:51
measured an incredible
00:40:53
422 ft across impressed
00:40:57
absolutely but for Seth schack it's
00:41:00
still nothing more than smoke and
00:41:03
mirrors I don't understand how they're
00:41:05
all done but to say that they are made
00:41:08
by something other than humans is a
00:41:10
radical revolutionary claim and
00:41:13
consequently I'm not going to be swayed
00:41:15
by what amounts to very anecdotal
00:41:17
evidence it's got to be better than that
00:41:20
I don't think we need necessarily to be
00:41:23
talking or trying to prove that it is or
00:41:25
isn't
00:41:27
extraterrestrial I don't know that
00:41:29
either what I know is what I'm looking
00:41:31
at that has arrived in our Fields
00:41:34
something knows what it's doing here
00:41:35
there is intelligence of some sort and I
00:41:38
know they're not all made by
00:41:42
people over the past decades more than
00:41:45
10,000 crop circles have been reported
00:41:48
from around the world assuming that
00:41:50
8,000 were made by pranksters that still
00:41:53
leaves 2,000 of these strange formations
00:41:56
that are unexplained which makes them an
