May 23, 2019 / 42:44

This episode of Unsolved Mysteries covers multiple murder investigations, including the cases of Rachel Raver and Warren Fulton, Curtis Pichon, Opal Zacharias, and Wendy Long. Key discussions involve DNA evidence linking murders, the mysterious disappearance of a security guard, and the ongoing search for a serial killer.

In Virginia, the unsolved murders of college students Rachel Raver and Warren Fulton are revisited after DNA evidence connects their case to that of Tina Jefferson, another victim. Detective Robin Talton discusses the challenges of solving these cold cases and the emotional toll on the victims' families.

In New Hampshire, Curtis Pichon, a former police officer, vanishes after his car mysteriously catches fire during his security shift. Investigators consider various theories, including suicide and abduction, but find no concrete evidence to explain his disappearance.

The episode also highlights the tragic murder of Opal Zacharias in Texas, with Detective Talton working to track down her killers. Despite some leads, the case remains unsolved, showcasing the difficulties faced by cold-case investigators.

Finally, Wendy Long's disappearance in Louisiana raises questions about her last known whereabouts and the potential involvement of her ex-boyfriend. The episode ends with a call for viewers to assist in solving these mysteries.

TL;DR

Multiple murder cases linked by DNA evidence highlight ongoing investigations and the impact on victims' families.

December 6 a workers surveying and
00:02:08
out-of-the-way wooded property in
00:02:09
Fairfax County Virginia makes a gruesome
00:02:11
discovery the partially clothed body of
00:02:18
a young woman lay sprawled in a clearing
00:02:25
she has been shot and it appears she has
00:02:27
been sexually assaulted her jeans purse
00:02:31
and red shoes are piled neatly nearby
00:02:35
once the police arrived on the scene
00:02:38
they began cordoning off the area as he
00:02:46
was stretching the crime scene tape and
00:02:47
walking the area they discovered a
00:02:49
second body nearby the young man has
00:02:54
been shot once in the head
00:02:55
execution-style like the woman he
00:02:58
carries no identification the victims
00:03:02
will soon be identified as 22 year old
00:03:04
college sweethearts rachel raver and
00:03:06
warren fulton the baffling murders have
00:03:09
remained unsolved for more than a decade
00:03:11
but recently dramatic advances in
00:03:14
forensic science and an incredible
00:03:16
connection to a previous unsolved
00:03:17
mystery story produced a major break in
00:03:20
the case warned Fulton was a captain of
00:03:25
the George Washington University
00:03:26
baseball team and hope to one day play
00:03:29
in the major leagues
00:03:32
Rachel raver was a voracious well-liked
00:03:35
recent graduate of George Washington who
00:03:37
was planning to go to law school she and
00:03:41
Warren had met at a local hangout and
00:03:43
had been dating for several months on
00:03:45
[Music]
00:03:47
December 3rd Rachel and Warren met
00:03:49
friends for drinks at a Washington DC
00:03:51
bar 12:30 a.m. they called it a night
00:03:56
and were last seen walking to their car
00:04:00
it's my belief that they probably
00:04:02
encountered someone near their car or on
00:04:05
their way to the car investigators
00:04:08
theorize that Rachel and Warren were
00:04:10
probably abducted at gunpoint and forced
00:04:12
to drive from Washington into the
00:04:14
Virginia suburbs west of the city
00:04:16
just tell us where you want to go
00:04:21
and when we get out the cards its
00:04:23
history the terrifying ride would have
00:04:26
covered a distance of about 20 miles
00:04:33
once at the obscure wooded site police
00:04:36
believe the gunman apparently wasted no
00:04:38
time one was probably killed as soon as
00:04:51
they got into the woods Rachel would
00:04:57
have seen that we think probably at that
00:04:59
point she ran
00:05:11
after mortally wounding Rachel the
00:05:14
killer then sexually assaulted her
00:05:17
police believe the assailant fled in
00:05:19
Rachel's car but he unknowingly left
00:05:22
clues to his identity semen recovered
00:05:25
from Rachel's body contains his DNA a
00:05:29
single hair retrieved at autopsy reveals
00:05:32
the killer's race african-american and
00:05:34
his choice of location for the murder
00:05:37
scene told investigators he was probably
00:05:39
familiar with the surroundings the area
00:05:43
where the bodies was found was very
00:05:46
close to the the Dulles Toll Road a
00:05:49
major road that runs from interstate
00:05:52
highway to Dulles Airport however the
00:05:55
area where the bodies were specifically
00:05:56
is is very secluded and you would not
00:06:00
have known about that area if you
00:06:02
weren't familiar with this particular
00:06:03
area two days after the bodies were
00:06:07
found the Fulton and Raver families have
00:06:09
their worst fears confirmed in time
00:06:13
Rachel's mother Veronica would channel
00:06:15
her grief into action I didn't feel
00:06:19
angry for several months and then one
00:06:21
day I got up and I got mad and my
00:06:25
attitude was who the hell does he think
00:06:27
he is
00:06:28
and that's when I started healing and
00:06:30
looking for him along with Rachel's
00:06:33
sister DeeDee
00:06:34
Veronica became obsessed with seeing
00:06:36
that Rachel and horns killer was caught
00:06:38
the ravers immersed themselves in every
00:06:41
detail of the case oh there's an article
00:06:45
here about a suspect who killed a young
00:06:47
girl no rape
00:06:50
the date was roughed up he wasn't killed
00:06:52
so it's not the same thing yeah I know I
00:06:54
know we'll get it we'll do it believing
00:06:59
that Rachel's missing car was the key to
00:07:00
solving the case the ravers focused
00:07:03
their search on finding it and even
00:07:05
though she lived in suburban New York
00:07:07
City veronica raver spent her free time
00:07:10
driving the streets and highways around
00:07:12
Washington looking for that car going
00:07:16
down to DC I would stop you know at
00:07:19
those wayside rest areas and I'd go
00:07:22
through every parking
00:07:23
all the way down to DC all the way back
00:07:25
on the other side of the highway I was
00:07:28
obsessed justice hopes were dwindling
00:07:32
six weeks after the murders there was a
00:07:34
major break in the case from an unlikely
00:07:36
source I came home from work when I took
00:07:40
the mail from you don't the motor
00:07:46
vehicle for tickets
00:07:53
and when I opened it up I thought whoa
00:07:58
Oh God
00:08:01
gnorm it's the car
00:08:05
Rachele ravers missing Toyota sedan had
00:08:08
been ticketed for illegal parking on a
00:08:10
street in Queens New York the date on
00:08:13
the ticket was the day after the murders
00:08:15
and two days before the bodies were
00:08:17
discovered the car was sitting
00:08:20
unattended on a New York City Street so
00:08:23
you can imagine what happened to it by
00:08:25
the time it was recovered there wasn't
00:08:27
much left of it the car was taken to a
00:08:32
garage in New York City where it was
00:08:34
processed extensively and a number of
00:08:37
latent fingerprints were developed and
00:08:40
we weren't able to identify anyone so
00:08:43
basically we came away with with no
00:08:45
clues from the car despite the latest
00:08:53
setback
00:08:54
Veronica raver refused to give up almost
00:08:59
a full year after the murders an episode
00:09:02
of unsolved mysteries caught her
00:09:04
attention on May 10th 1988 the body of
00:09:08
an unknown young woman was found in an
00:09:10
Arlington Virginia schoolyard she had
00:09:13
been sexually assaulted and shot once at
00:09:16
point-blank range
00:09:22
the victim was subsequently identified
00:09:24
as 24 year old Tina Jefferson a newcomer
00:09:28
to the Washington DC area one good
00:09:31
suspect admitted that he had seen her
00:09:33
the day that she was killed and he was
00:09:36
able to describe her all the way down to
00:09:38
her red shoes unsolved mysteries came on
00:09:41
about this young woman who had been shot
00:09:45
and I don't know what attracted me I
00:09:48
think it was the date the date was also
00:09:51
Rachel's birthday that got my attention
00:09:54
it's something about it I called up my
00:09:57
daughter Dede and asked her to check on
00:10:00
this that you know something about it it
00:10:03
bothered me when I spoke to the
00:10:06
detective about it he told me that he
00:10:08
had looked into the case too because it
00:10:10
bothered him a lot but the case was so
00:10:13
different and her killer seemed to know
00:10:15
her and we assumed that in Rachel's case
00:10:20
said it was a stranger the discrepancies
00:10:24
between the cases were significant
00:10:26
Rachael raver was white while Tina
00:10:28
Jefferson was african-american Rachel
00:10:31
was in the company of her boyfriend
00:10:33
Tina was alone and what investigators
00:10:37
believe Tina knew her killer it was
00:10:39
suspected that the attack on Rachel and
00:10:41
Warren had been random
00:10:45
years would pass and both murder
00:10:48
investigations would grow cold until one
00:10:51
day in the spring of 2000 a technician
00:10:54
at biotech to Virginia's state DNA lab
00:10:57
was routinely running comparisons on
00:11:00
samples submitted by law enforcement
00:11:01
agencies she was able to develop the
00:11:05
most vital lead either of these cases
00:11:07
that had to that date and also prove
00:11:09
Aronica ravers instincts were on the
00:11:12
mark I received a phone call from the
00:11:15
serologist at our lab and she says I've
00:11:17
got good news and I've got bad news the
00:11:20
good news is we got a hit on your case
00:11:23
and the Virginia Data Bank the bad news
00:11:26
is the hit is on another unsolved
00:11:29
homicide that other unsolved homicide
00:11:32
was a murder of Tina Jefferson it was
00:11:35
now a scientifically proven rachel raver
00:11:38
and warren fulton were murdered by the
00:11:40
same person who killed Tina
00:11:43
investigators also now had confirmation
00:11:45
that a serial killer was on the loose my
00:11:49
husband got a phone call from the
00:11:51
detectives and they told him that they
00:11:53
had a Cole DNA hit and it matched
00:11:57
another case that was seven months after
00:12:00
our daughter Tina and it was the Fulton
00:12:03
in the ravers case and shortly
00:12:07
afterwards Dedra wherever got in touch
00:12:09
with us
00:12:10
when I met The Jeffersons it was as if I
00:12:12
had known them for years
00:12:14
and we feel as though we've been
00:12:17
greeting together for the last 12 years
00:12:19
on Rachel's birthday their daughter was
00:12:22
murdered and for the last 12 years we've
00:12:25
been grieving on the very same day the
00:12:27
ravers and Jeffersons now had hopes that
00:12:29
this new development would lead to a
00:12:31
successful resolution of their cases
00:12:34
once we make the DNA link here between
00:12:38
these murders and then we can go back
00:12:40
and we can closer examine these murders
00:12:43
we start to see some small similarities
00:12:46
[Music]
00:12:48
the red shoes I think are fascinating I
00:12:51
think it's probably more than
00:12:52
coincidental though that they were both
00:12:54
wearing red shoes
00:12:57
in the Arlington County case they have a
00:13:00
composite drawing of a suspect they have
00:13:02
a face to go with the DNA and we never
00:13:05
had that before witnesses described him
00:13:08
as a clean-cut bodybuilder type an
00:13:10
african-american approximately six foot
00:13:13
three inches tall and weighing 170
00:13:16
pounds Tina Jefferson was last seen
00:13:19
alive in his presence the ravers and The
00:13:24
Jeffersons have been revitalized by the
00:13:26
DNA link and are now more hopeful than
00:13:29
ever that the killer of their loved ones
00:13:31
will be caught I won't rest until he's
00:13:35
found I really won't have any peace
00:13:38
until he's found he's an evil predator
00:13:42
an evil perverted predator he's
00:13:45
dangerous
00:13:46
I like for him to go through the pain
00:13:49
and the hurt that I have gone through
00:13:52
for 13 years hours I would like to see
00:13:58
him face to face

okay Kurtis a former police officer
00:14:53
informs a fire department that he has no
00:14:56
idea how his car caught on fire the
00:14:59
firefighters noticed that under the
00:15:01
circumstances he seems curiously subdued
00:15:04
two hours after the firefighters leave
00:15:07
the scene the mystery deepens curtis
00:15:10
abruptly disappears without a trace the
00:15:15
holdest parents is confusing the car
00:15:18
fire is confusing because even without
00:15:22
the car fire there's no clues here this
00:15:27
is a worst nightmare for any
00:15:30
investigator because there's not that
00:15:33
tangible weed to go on and and an entire
00:15:38
family that wants answers and deserves
00:15:40
answers and hasn't been able to get them
00:15:43
what happened at Curtis push on every
00:15:48
possibility considered by investigators
00:15:50
led to a dead end they thought Curtis
00:15:53
might have purposely destroyed his car
00:15:55
before engineering his own disappearance
00:15:57
but they found no other way for him to
00:15:59
leave the remote factory where he worked
00:16:01
they considered suicide but where was
00:16:04
his body they also believed Curtis could
00:16:07
have been abducted but there was no
00:16:09
evidence supporting that conclusion for
00:16:14
10 years Curtis Pishon cherished his
00:16:16
career as a police officer then he was
00:16:19
stricken with multiple sclerosis a
00:16:21
painful muscular disorder that severely
00:16:24
limited his mobility the disease
00:16:27
progressed to the point where he could
00:16:28
no longer accurately fire his gun he had
00:16:32
no choice but to turn in his badge I've
00:16:35
never seen Curtis so devastated in my
00:16:38
life his personality changed he became
00:16:41
sort of a quieter and I don't think
00:16:45
giving up to the time of his
00:16:46
disappearance he really knew what he was
00:16:48
gonna do the rest of his life
00:16:54
how you doing how are you according to
00:16:56
his family Curtis became depressed and
00:16:58
withdrawn after taking on a frustrating
00:17:02
series of odd jobs he found a new sense
00:17:04
of satisfaction as a factory security
00:17:06
guard the jobs physical requirements
00:17:10
were less stringent than those of a
00:17:11
police officer and he was not required
00:17:14
to carry a gun the night he vanished
00:17:18
began like every other at midnight two
00:17:21
and a half hours into his shift all was
00:17:23
normal
00:17:34
at 142 a.m. Seabrook firefighters
00:17:39
responded to curtis's called for help he
00:17:41
pretty much said that he saw a bunch of
00:17:44
smoke and some flame and then he went to
00:17:47
find a fire extinguisher and then went
00:17:49
to put the fire out one fire
00:17:53
extinguisher is not going to have much
00:17:56
effect but we did notice that he did try
00:17:58
to put out the fire
00:17:59
there have been cases where security
00:18:02
guards Building superintendents and
00:18:04
things like that intentionally set fires
00:18:06
and put them out just to get recognition
00:18:10
but I don't have any idea or gut feeling
00:18:15
how how the fire started or or why the
00:18:18
case ended up the way it did when the
00:18:22
firefighters arrived on scene they had
00:18:24
conversation with him and they found him
00:18:27
to be totally accepting almost it was he
00:18:32
was not in the least upset with or did
00:18:35
not appear to be upset Curtis a stoic
00:18:38
behavior was all the more curious
00:18:40
because his car as always had been
00:18:42
cluttered with many of his possessions
00:18:44
his family said he had the odd habit of
00:18:47
using it to store what he treasured most
00:18:50
Curtis his reaction to the fire I find
00:18:54
surprising I would think that if he had
00:18:58
seen his car on fire with his belongings
00:19:01
in it then he would have been very upset
00:19:03
I would think he would have been almost
00:19:05
in tears and in shame and I can't
00:19:09
believe he was quiet timid
00:19:15
two and a half hours after the fire was
00:19:18
extinguished the factory security
00:19:19
supervisor checked on Curtis he left
00:19:29
Curtis at 3:25 a.m.
00:19:34
20 minutes later 3:45 a factory worker
00:19:38
was a first to notice that Curtis was
00:19:40
missing
00:19:45
[Music]
00:19:48
an exhaustive search of the factory and
00:19:51
the surrounding area turned up nothing
00:19:53
our very first thoughts about what
00:19:56
happened to Kurt was that he could have
00:19:58
taken his own life he could have
00:20:01
wandered off or he could have been
00:20:03
abducted one thing that we thought of in
00:20:06
terms of trying to flush out that the
00:20:08
suicide scenario was the fact that he
00:20:10
had purchased this pistol just I guess a
00:20:13
few days prior to his disappearance
00:20:16
curtis bought the 9-millimeter gun from
00:20:19
his father Nicolas suicide was a
00:20:22
possibility with somebody in curtis's
00:20:24
condition with ms he had lost a job that
00:20:27
he wanted all his life but his mood when
00:20:30
he on the weekend that he did pick up
00:20:31
the gun and everything seemed to be more
00:20:34
happy more pleased with himself suicide
00:20:40
seemed a likely solution however could
00:20:43
as his gun could not be found police
00:20:45
could find no trace of it in his car or
00:20:48
in his apartment
00:20:51
then as curtisha's family cleaned out
00:20:53
his cluttered residence they made a
00:20:55
surprising discovery once I discovered
00:21:00
the the weapon I think that we
00:21:04
eliminated the likelihood that Kurt had
00:21:06
taken his own life
00:21:07
now we had narrowed it down to I believe
00:21:11
one of two things one that Kurt broke
00:21:15
down mentally and had wandered off and
00:21:18
then the other one was of course a much
00:21:21
more a much darker scenario where Kurt
00:21:24
was abducted and probably murdered
00:21:28
the first possibility the Curtis had
00:21:31
suffered a mental collapse prompted
00:21:33
investigators to focus once again on the
00:21:36
mysterious fire they believe Curtis
00:21:39
might have accidentally started it then
00:21:43
became so despondent over losing his
00:21:45
prized possessions that he simply walked
00:21:47
away there is absolutely no way that
00:21:51
Curtis would have or even could have
00:21:53
wandered off by himself under these
00:21:56
circumstances Curtis was a smoker
00:21:59
smokers don't leave cigarettes you don't
00:22:02
go anywhere without your cigarettes
00:22:04
doesn't happen so he didn't just walk
00:22:06
off and he had deteriorated enough that
00:22:09
he probably physically couldn't probably
00:22:11
walk two miles let alone want to do it
00:22:16
there are histories of individuals who
00:22:20
we do not anticipate can travel any
00:22:22
extended distance who in fact are
00:22:25
located several miles away from their
00:22:29
original starting point I would tend to
00:22:32
doubt it but it is possible the
00:22:36
possibility remained that Curtis called
00:22:38
for a taxi or hitched a ride on a truck
00:22:40
leaving the factory but investigators
00:22:43
discovered that no cabs or company
00:22:45
trucks left the plant during Curtis
00:22:47
shift one disturbing possibility
00:22:50
remained the Curtis was abducted and
00:22:53
murdered I think Curtis went to work
00:22:57
like he always did that night and I
00:23:00
think that he probably been carrying out
00:23:03
his duties saw something that he
00:23:05
shouldn't have and he probably carried
00:23:08
out his his true duty of either getting
00:23:12
ready to report it or call it in and he
00:23:14
was attacked and he couldn't defend
00:23:17
himself
00:23:20
investigators exploring the possibility
00:23:23
of foul play
00:23:24
found that a door and two vending
00:23:26
machines have been damaged during
00:23:27
curtis's shift but who caused the damage
00:23:30
remains unknown with regard to criminal
00:23:33
activity that Curtis may have
00:23:35
encountered anything is possible one
00:23:39
individual that we spoke with took note
00:23:42
about three thirty of two vehicles
00:23:47
departing the premises my best guess is
00:23:50
somebody abducted them and did him in
00:23:52
and disposed of the body such a way that
00:23:54
hasn't shown up yet
00:23:58
I don't have much hope that Curtis is
00:24:01
alive I think if he was alive he would
00:24:03
have reached out already and he never
00:24:06
would have put us through this it'd be
00:24:08
very difficult if he'd been killed at a
00:24:10
plane garage but not having no idea of
00:24:13
what happened to him could even what
00:24:15
different oh I miss my brother
00:24:18
I miss Curtis I was his best friend
00:24:21
and I miss him I miss him very much

00:25:09
who are you good easy lady yes the plan
00:25:19
may have been to simply Robert but there
00:25:22
was a struggling
00:25:28
sadly Opel Sakurai's lost your life
00:25:31
after being victimized by two cold
00:25:33
blooded assailants story like this
00:25:36
happen in the United States far more
00:25:37
often than we'd like to believe but what
00:25:40
makes this case unique is that it
00:25:42
currently rests in the expert hands of
00:25:43
one of the most successful cold-case
00:25:45
investigators in the country her name is
00:25:50
Robin Talton and she's one of this
00:25:52
nation's toughest female cops over the
00:25:56
years the veteran detective has proven
00:25:58
herself time and again in an arena
00:26:00
dominated by men
00:26:05
June 2000 a machine shop in Houston
00:26:09
Texas
00:26:12
plainclothes Harris County sheriff's
00:26:14
detective Taunton and her partner
00:26:16
responded to a tip that a wanted felon
00:26:19
was on the premises we were told he had
00:26:26
escaped three different times so he was
00:26:28
a known rabbit and we figured that he
00:26:31
would run from us
00:26:32
the manager there was very cooperative
00:26:35
he he actually agreed to point the guy
00:26:38
out
00:26:51
although detective talk knew she'd been
00:26:54
injured she was determined a concealer
00:26:56
condition until the arrest was made the
00:27:00
detective that was with me kept after
00:27:02
the defendant and he did get him and I
00:27:05
did not want this crook to know that I
00:27:07
was hurt we walked it down to where the
00:27:15
unit was
00:27:21
are you okay I'm hurt bad
00:27:26
can you make it back to the car yeah
00:27:28
apparently a burst of adrenaline masked
00:27:31
the severity of Robin Cotton's injury
00:27:33
she was stunned when doctors told her
00:27:36
she chipped her left kneecap and
00:27:37
fractured the lower leg in two places
00:27:40
this arrest would change her life well
00:27:49
detective Taunton recovered from her
00:27:50
broken leg she was assigned of the newly
00:27:53
created cold warrant unit what we'd like
00:27:55
to do is get you two working on a
00:27:59
computer and see if we can find some new
00:28:01
sources of information where we can find
00:28:04
these guys and maybe weaker new unit was
00:28:06
set up the trace and apprehend Harris
00:28:08
counties wanted felons many of these
00:28:11
criminals have been on the lam for more
00:28:13
than a decade the dramatic sudden shift
00:28:16
in career might have shed her anyone
00:28:18
else in Robins shoes but the thought
00:28:20
never crossed her mind from the start
00:28:23
she was driven to turn tragedy into
00:28:24
triumph a desk job was not going to
00:28:27
hamper her effectiveness the veteran
00:28:35
investigator with more than ten years as
00:28:36
a street detective under her belt would
00:28:39
now need to get accustomed to a couple
00:28:40
of new partners a computer and the
00:28:43
Internet detective talked enough out her
00:28:48
solve armed with faded warrants and
00:28:49
often obsolete information however she
00:28:52
quickly proved to have a talent for
00:28:54
tracking down long-lost fugitives it's
00:29:00
kind of like a game of you know catch me
00:29:03
if you can sometimes I start with just a
00:29:05
name an age range in an old address and
00:29:09
I put together past acquaintances family
00:29:13
members trying to find somebody that
00:29:16
could fit
00:29:17
it's like putting the pieces together to
00:29:19
see if it's gonna make sense by the time
00:29:23
I get the warrant it's old enough that I
00:29:25
feel like these guys have settled down
00:29:27
and they think they're safe the KO
00:29:30
warrant unit
00:29:31
is a little bit deceptive it's it's it's
00:29:34
not a band of detectives it's one
00:29:36
detective Robin Talton and after she
00:29:41
does her research we have about an 80
00:29:44
percent rate of arrests once she handles
00:29:47
those warrants to date
00:29:51
detective tautness worked with a cold
00:29:53
warrant unit has led to the arrests of
00:29:54
more than 400 dangerous fugitives
00:29:57
however despite her successes she's
00:30:00
still challenged by the cases she has
00:30:01
yet to crack like the 1987 ruthless
00:30:05
murder of opal Zacharias even as opal
00:30:10
lay wounded on her driveway the robbers
00:30:12
were not finished with her from what
00:30:15
every member of the gunshot wound
00:30:18
apparently entered the five and then
00:30:20
came out the back of the hip so the shot
00:30:23
itself was not a fatal shot
00:30:28
but they had her purse and car keys and
00:30:31
ended up sticking the car backing over
00:30:34
in the South Dakota
00:30:38
a witness reported seeing one of the men
00:30:49
flee the scene by scaling a fence
00:30:53
later that day opal Zach arises
00:30:56
abandoned car would be found however at
00:30:58
the time it yielded no clues that would
00:31:00
lead to opals killers a year later
00:31:04
tips from an informant identified the
00:31:06
murder suspects one of the men was
00:31:09
apprehended living outside Houston
00:31:12
despite the fact that the man's
00:31:14
fingerprints are on opal Zachariah says
00:31:15
car authorities could not physically
00:31:18
connect him to the murder and he was
00:31:19
released without charges the alleged
00:31:23
triggerman was identified as Lance
00:31:25
bedgood who was still at large
00:31:27
robbing Taunton tackled the case in 2001
00:31:30
while trying to locate Lance bedgood I
00:31:33
came across some post office boxes three
00:31:36
in fact that are still being looked at
00:31:38
today what we're assuming is that he's
00:31:42
using three different post offices
00:31:44
basically is a mail drop so he can keep
00:31:47
in contact
00:31:48

detective Taunton discovered the

00:31:54
Lance beggars relatives but paid for by
00:31:56
a fourth well I'm glad that the
00:32:00
investigation hasn't been forgotten the
00:32:04
the sad part is is that my aunt's life
00:32:09
was taken and she didn't get to see the
00:32:12
family grow up and mature and that said

00:32:40
on a Sunday spring afternoon in
00:32:43
coushatta Louisiana Carol and Duke long
00:32:45
received a telephone call from a friend
00:32:47
of their 21 year-old daughter Wendy two
00:32:57
days earlier on Friday the 13th of April
00:33:00
Wendy had driven - reeport - shopping
00:33:03
party with friends
00:33:04
her parents expected her home by Sunday
00:33:07
afternoon instead they received news
00:33:09
that his every parent's worst nightmare
00:33:11
Wendy had disappeared we call the police
00:33:19
and tell them that we thought something
00:33:21
had happened to wind and that's where it
00:33:24
all started
00:33:26
somebody knows where Wendy said then we
00:33:29
just want to find her so bad
00:33:34
Wendy Long's disappears as a classic
00:33:36
missing person case because she is 21
00:33:40
Wendy is considered an adult until any
00:33:43
proof of foul play is found police
00:33:45
cannot officially consider the case an
00:33:47
abduction or a homicide what happened to
00:33:50
Wendy Elizabeth long police in Wendy's
00:33:53
parents seek your help to solve this
00:33:56
agonising mystery in the spring of 2001
00:34:01
Wendy long decided to take a semester
00:34:03
off from college and was planning to
00:34:05
continue her studies in the fall during
00:34:09
this time Wendy lived with her parents
00:34:11
the Long's considered her strong-willed
00:34:14
yet very open and friendly
00:34:17
one of her Falls may have been that
00:34:19
she's too trusting
00:34:20
she thought everybody she met with her
00:34:23
friend she was one of those people that
00:34:26
made friends with everybody shortly
00:34:33
after noon on Friday Wendy left her
00:34:35
parents home driving her own car and
00:34:37
headed to Shreveport 50 miles mocha
00:34:39
shotta
00:34:44
on the way she picked up two friends
00:34:46
from neck adesh following an afternoon
00:34:51
of shopping the three picked up another
00:34:53
friend Tommy who lived in the Shreveport
00:34:56
area at approximately 11:00 p.m. they
00:35:00
arrived at a Shreveport party
00:35:03
and there was drinking at the party and
00:35:07
I'm told that Wendy had quite a bit to
00:35:09
drink that night so that when it came
00:35:13
time for them to take Tommy back home
00:35:15
she didn't want to drive in fact she
00:35:18
didn't want to go with him at all she
00:35:19
decided to stay where she was her two
00:35:23
friends that she came to Shreveport with
00:35:25
drove Tommy back to where he was staying
00:35:28
at the time after leaving Tommy Wendy's
00:35:32
friends had a run-in with the law their
00:35:36
statement is that they went to get some
00:35:37
food and they were stopped by a state
00:35:40
trooper and one of the friends was
00:35:43
arrested for DWI and taken to the Bend
00:35:46
jail
00:35:50
when questioned by police
00:35:52
Tommy explained that he was concerned
00:35:54
that Wendy might be stranded at the
00:35:55
party he chose to drive his own vehicle
00:35:58
to find Wendy and offer her a ride back
00:36:01
home to kahshanna
00:36:02
Tommy says Wendy accepted the offer on
00:36:05
the way he stopped for gas and a quart
00:36:07
of oil when he came back out of the gas
00:36:14
station Wendy was talking to two young
00:36:18
men in a black Chevy truck this is Mike
00:36:22
and Zant's Tommy said that it appeared
00:36:25
that she knew them and Wendy told Tommy
00:36:29
at that point not to worry about it that
00:36:31
she was gonna go with them and they were
00:36:32
gonna get her home are you sure you know
00:36:35
these guys anything yes I'm sure I know
00:36:38
these guys I will get home okay just go
00:36:41
home what according to Tommy the last
00:36:46
time he saw Wendy was when she left with
00:36:48
the two men this alleged sighting made
00:36:50
Tommy the last person to see Wendy
00:36:52
before she disappeared Tommy agreed to
00:36:56
take a polygraph test which according to
00:36:58
police he passed
00:37:02
Tommy did extremely well on the
00:37:04
polygraph the polygraph examiner himself
00:37:07
was very impressed with him and the
00:37:10
details that he could remember at that
00:37:13
point they decided that it would be
00:37:15
beneficial to hypnotize Tommy to see
00:37:18
what else he could remember under
00:37:23
hypnosis Tommy was able to provide a
00:37:25
more detailed description of the black
00:37:27
Chevy pickup truck and the appearance of
00:37:29
the two men who took Wendy away his
00:37:32
recollection enabled a police artist to
00:37:35
produce these sketches of the men but no
00:37:38
one has come forward to identify them in
00:37:42
further investigating Wendy's
00:37:44
disappearance police discovered a
00:37:46
puzzling incident on the day after Wendy
00:37:49
vanished her ex-boyfriend and Shreveport
00:37:51
claims to have received a message from
00:37:53
her on his answering machine
00:37:57
[Music]
00:38:01
he said that it sounded like she was on
00:38:04
a cell phone and he didn't hear
00:38:06
everything that she said he did clearly
00:38:09
hear the words this is Wendy he said the
00:38:12
rest of it was very staticky and he
00:38:14
erased the message at that time he
00:38:18
didn't even know that wendy was missing
00:38:22
Wendy Long's missing-persons case is
00:38:24
filled with many more questions than
00:38:26
answers
00:38:26
a key question involves another of
00:38:29
Wendy's ex-boyfriends there are quite a
00:38:36
few reports that indicate that there was
00:38:39
some physical violence in between them
00:38:41
[Music]
00:38:44
the thing that concerns me about Wendy's
00:38:48
ex-boyfriend is the fact that another
00:38:51
girlfriend of his came up missing years
00:38:55
prior to this and that she was never
00:38:58
found but Wendy's ex-boyfriend
00:39:02
apparently has an alibi
00:39:05
the boyfriend cannot be placed in
00:39:08
Shreveport anytime that Friday or
00:39:10
Saturday I consider him to be suspect
00:39:16
only because of the prior things that
00:39:19
happened
00:39:21
for one knee Long's parents the
00:39:23
nightmare that began with a single phone
00:39:25
call continues we've had people call and
00:39:29
said that they've been praying for us
00:39:31
and praying for Wendy I'm just trusting
00:39:34
God to answer our prayers and to lead us
00:39:37
to wherever Wendy might be and I did
00:39:41
still believe in miracles
00:39:43
and I believe it still be a miracle that
00:39:46
when he could be alive update eight
00:39:54
months after Wendy's disappearance
00:39:56
Thomas his real name is Robert Stewart
00:39:58
was arrested for check fraud police
00:40:02
began to requestion him about
00:40:04
inconsistencies in the story he told
00:40:06
about the last time he saw Wendy long
00:40:08
according to investigators Stewart
00:40:11
eventually broke down fest to the murder
00:40:13
and pinpointed the location of Wendy's
00:40:15
body

00:40:32
now a special bulletin we ask you to pay
00:40:36
close attention to this story about a
00:40:38
young woman who is missing perhaps you
00:40:40
may be able to help authorities
00:40:42
determine what happened the day Rachel
00:40:44
cook disappeared on the morning of
00:40:48
January 10th 2002 19 year old Rachel
00:40:51
cook went jogging in her Georgetown
00:40:53
Texas neighborhood she left her house at
00:40:56
approximately 9:30 a.m. wearing a green
00:40:59
