Unsolved Mysteries with Dennis Farina - Season 1, Episode 4 - Full Episode

March 09, 2017 / 42:51

This episode of Unsolved Mysteries covers the murder of Tupac Shakur, a high-speed crash that killed three people, and a Bigfoot sighting in Oregon.

The episode begins with the unsolved murder of Tupac Shakur, who was shot in Las Vegas in 1996. Friends describe him as a talented and charismatic artist. The circumstances surrounding his death are discussed, including his rivalry with Biggie Smalls and the lack of witnesses willing to cooperate with police.

Next, the episode shifts to a tragic car accident in Pullman, Washington, where three young adults were killed. Fred Russell, the driver, faced charges of vehicular homicide but disappeared before his trial, later being captured in Ireland.

The episode also features Dr. Sarah Wet, a forensic pathologist, who investigates the suspicious death of Jack Davis Jr., a college student whose body was found in a stairwell. Dr. Wet uncovers discrepancies in the initial autopsy that suggest foul play.

Finally, the episode discusses the mysterious disappearance of two French sailors, Emmanuel Pon and Lauron Erna, who vanished while delivering a catamaran. Witnesses reported a third man on board, leading to speculation about a possible hijacking.

TL;DR

This episode covers Tupac's murder, a deadly crash, and Bigfoot sightings.

resist the lure of the Streets between

00:02:45
Tupac was gunned down in 1996 and his

00:03:01
thousands of boxing fans were in town

00:03:13
celebrities who attended the fight Maran
00:03:16
Shug Knight CEO of Shakur's recording
00:03:19
studio was with
00:03:20
him this photo of Tupac and Shug was
00:03:24
taken after the fight as the two headed
00:03:27
for a dance club they were followed by
00:03:29
an Entourage of musicians and
00:03:34
bodyguards Tupac who normally was known
00:03:37
to pack a weapon as was Suge and many
00:03:41
people in the Entourage they weren't
00:03:43
armed that night and everybody said they
00:03:45
felt
00:03:46
safe so it was a very festive mood they
00:03:48
were obviously they're playing playing
00:03:50
their music loud so they were in a
00:03:52
partying mood they were flirting with
00:03:54
women shortly after 11:00 p.m. Tupac and
00:03:58
Suge pull up to an in section and spoke
00:04:01
with two unidentified women somewhere
00:04:04
know that always a
00:04:06
party the two were looking at the girls
00:04:08
and talking to them that's what the
00:04:10
witnesses have told police and that's
00:04:13
when a white Cadillac drove up on the
00:04:15
passenger side next to
00:04:18
Tupac and open
00:04:24
fire Tupac tried to climb into the back
00:04:28
seat and didn't make it
00:04:31
the attackers sped away Shug Knight took
00:04:34
off in the opposite direction he finally
00:04:38
stopped in front of a casino a mile
00:04:42
away Tupac was in critical condition
00:04:46
shot in the chest hip and hand Knight
00:04:49
had escaped with only a bullet graze
00:04:51
across his
00:04:53
Temple there were thousands of witnesses
00:04:56
but police say only one person came
00:04:59
forward
00:05:03
it wasafu fola one of Tupac's backup
00:05:07
singers he was riding in the car
00:05:09
directly behind Suge and
00:05:13
Tupac he told police that night that he
00:05:17
could do a photo lineup pick out the
00:05:19
Gunman from a photo lineup police
00:05:23
interviewed him briefly took his
00:05:25
number and he went on his way
00:05:30
fans gathered outside this Las Vegas
00:05:32

00:05:43

00:05:45
a victim of gang violence this videotape
00:05:49
was recorded by a hotel security camera
00:05:52
at the MGM Grant just 3 hours before the
00:05:56
shooting members of Tupac's Entourage
00:05:59
are inv involved in a fight Suge Knight
00:06:02
and Tupac are also there moments later
00:06:05
Tupac followed by Suge can be seen
00:06:08
hurrying through the
00:06:10
casino the target of the attack was
00:06:13
22-year-old Orlando Anderson an alleged
00:06:16
member of a Los Angeles Street gang the
00:06:19
Southside Crips it has been rumored that
00:06:22
Suge Knight was linked to a rival
00:06:28
gang this be the confrontation that
00:06:31
triggered Tupac's
00:06:35
murder anytime someone is popular as
00:06:38
Tupac Shakur can be killed in front of
00:06:41
thousands of people after one of the
00:06:43
biggest events in the world and one of
00:06:46
the most popular cities in the world
00:06:48
there is something more to it than just
00:06:50
some random shooting by some idiot who
00:06:52
decided to pick up a gun and point at
00:06:54
Tupac cour it has to be some
00:06:57
organization or some movement behind
00:06:59
that
00:07:01
[Music]
00:07:02
killing some say this music video by
00:07:05
Tupac offers a clue to a second
00:07:08
theory in the months before his death
00:07:11
Tupac was at the center of a heated
00:07:13
dispute between East Coast and West
00:07:16
coast
00:07:20
rappers there was a rivalry that started
00:07:23
between Tupac Shakur and artist Biggie
00:07:26
Smalls and Puffy Combs who is the CEO of
00:07:29
bad boy Boy
00:07:30
Entertainment that rivalry between them
00:07:32
existed because when Tupac was shot at
00:07:35
quad
00:07:36
Studios he felt not that Biggie and
00:07:39
puffy set him up but that they knew that
00:07:41
it was coming and didn't warn him H you
00:07:44
alive I mean you say in the video Tupac
00:07:47
blamed Puffy Combs and Biggie Smalls for
00:07:51
the attack that nearly killed him in
00:07:53
1994 please don't kill me it was Buff's
00:07:56
idea man no one has ever been arrested
00:07:59
in that
00:08:00
shooting I ain't going to kill you we
00:08:02
was homeboys once Pig once we homeboys
00:08:05
we always
00:08:06
homeboys just weeks before his death
00:08:09
Tupac was interviewed on radio station
00:08:12
KMEL in San Francisco about his East
00:08:15
Coast
00:08:16
Rivals while I'm in jail strangers is
00:08:19
telling me yo you don't know biggy
00:08:22
homeboy shot you cuz they bragging they
00:08:25
telling they in jail yo we just got po
00:08:27
woooooo
00:08:30
there is another theory perhaps the
00:08:33
murder was an inside job set up by
00:08:36
someone close to
00:08:39
Tupac otherwise how did the gunman know
00:08:42
where Tupac would be why did he seemed
00:08:45
to be the only Target and why weren't
00:08:49
his bodyguards armed at the time of the
00:08:51
shooting when they had been armed
00:08:53
earlier in the evening yeah had the
00:08:54
black be was in front sh driving and why
00:08:58
with the strips swarming with people was
00:09:01
no one willing to cooperate with
00:09:03
police not even his bodyguards were good
00:09:09
eyewitnesses what I was told by one
00:09:11
homicide detective was that everybody
00:09:13
went deaf dumb and blind they were
00:09:16
surprised because they said these are
00:09:18
professional bodyguards they're paid to
00:09:22
guard Tupac yet they didn't see
00:09:25
anything I don't know I know if he was
00:09:28
he was driving down the strip I Fula is
00:09:31
the only witness who came forward but he
00:09:33
never had the opportunity to view a
00:09:35
photo lineup of possible
00:09:39
suspects within a week of this shooting
00:09:41
he returned to his home in New
00:09:43
Jersey two months later fola was gunned
00:09:46
down in the stairwell of a housing
00:09:49
project was this a random act of
00:09:52
violence or premeditated murder to keep
00:09:55
fola from talking to the authorities
00:09:59
he was their best bet he was right
00:10:02
behind the car when it happened and he
00:10:04
said he believed he could identify the
00:10:07
gunman and now f is dead and they don't
00:10:10
have that
00:10:11
anymore Ironically in one of Tupac's
00:10:14
final videos he seemed to predict his
00:10:17
own violent
00:10:19
death cut down in a hail of gunfire by a
00:10:22
shadowy unknown

devastated by his
00:10:42
loss there was a lot of things people
00:10:44
might consider bad about Tupac but there
00:10:46
there was a lot of good things about
00:10:48
Tupac and we had yet to see all the good

00:12:55
uh see if we can communicate have it
00:12:57
lead us to others and then bring in um
00:13:01
um the right people totally responsible
00:13:03
people bring in scientists and show them
00:13:05
what we found and um document the whole
00:13:08
thing of
00:13:10
course until now the evidence of Bigfoot
00:13:13
has consisted mostly of amateur
00:13:15
photographs and home movies that
00:13:17
supposedly show the creature in the wild
00:13:20
and plaster casts of large humanoid
00:13:24
Footprints but when we ask if Bigfoot is
00:13:28
really real there is one other type of
00:13:31
evidence that must be considered
00:13:33
eyewitness accounts from people who
00:13:35
claim to have actually seen this
00:13:38
legendary
00:13:42
creature Todd n says he was on
00:13:44
demolition Maneuvers with his National
00:13:46
Guard unit when a distant movement
00:13:48
caught his
00:13:50
eye I can distinctly see three large
00:13:53
black figures I would estimate the
00:13:56
largest one to be between 8 and 9 ft I
00:13:58
could very plainly see they were upright
00:13:59
on two legs and and during that entire
00:14:01
time they were all three of them were
00:14:03
standing on two
00:14:05
legs another sergeant walked up to me
00:14:08
and said zes did you see what I saw down
00:14:11
at that second Rock
00:14:13
quy and not to be made a fool I said
00:14:15
well I don't know what did you see uh he
00:14:18
followed with well for lack of a better
00:14:21
word what I saw were three large hair
00:14:24
covered big
00:14:26
[Music]
00:14:27
feet one about here is that they are
00:14:29
nocturnal and that when they're seen in
00:14:31
the daytime it's a result of disturbance
00:14:33
of some kind in this case there was a
00:14:35
National Guard excise with explosions
00:14:38
and immediately after the explosion
00:14:40
three of these things were seen they
00:14:41
were seen by him seen by another man a
00:14:43
very credible
00:14:45
story in a remote Forest to the north
00:14:48
another sighting so do you guys want to
00:14:50
come along with me up there you're going
00:14:53
ahead okay when Elmer frach took his
00:14:56
family to a forest near the Canadian
00:14:58
border he came home with one of the most
00:15:01
amazing Bigfoot sightings on
00:15:05
record Elmer was a part-time prospector
00:15:08
he had just started taking ore samples
00:15:11
when he realized he wasn't
00:15:16
alone hey you on the
00:15:22
hill I thought at first I had triggered
00:15:25
an avalanche of some type until I saw a
00:15:28
big black hairy Mass right behind all of
00:15:31
those rocks and
00:15:33
twigs and at that time I kept thinking
00:15:36
in my mind I've got to find a way to
00:15:38
scare it and I fired a shot above its
00:15:42
head and it turned just slightly and
00:15:45
then proceeded to walk down the trail as
00:15:47
though I wasn't even
00:15:49
there and as it walked away from me it
00:15:52
took perfect humanlike strides down the
00:15:55
trail only like a giant man
00:15:59
this thing had crouched down at the end
00:16:02
of the trail and it picked up a rock the
00:16:05
size of a basketball and was using it to
00:16:08
bang against the other rocks that again
00:16:11
made a slight sideways turn just enough
00:16:13
to see me out of the corner of his
00:16:16
ey I was scared and I wanted to get out
00:16:19
of there I kept running down the
00:16:21
Hillside and the thing was in Hot
00:16:23
Pursuit the whole
00:16:25
way I don't think it was a Chase I think
00:16:28
possibly it was what we call a
00:16:29
demonstration
00:16:31
charge if it truly was a Bigfoot that he
00:16:33
saw and it was simply saying to get out
00:16:35
of here this is my
00:16:38
territory but eyewitness accounts alone
00:16:41
are not enough evidence to convince the
00:16:44
Skeptics and I'm amazed through all the
00:16:47
years and that various people that have
00:16:49
been hunting Sasquatch through the years
00:16:52
have not really found any what we call
00:16:54
Bone or dental evidence of the creature
00:16:57
uh that to me would be very
00:17:00
satisfying you can talk to people who
00:17:01
lived out here 50 years never found a
00:17:03
dead bear never found a dead cougar a
00:17:05
dead deer maybe but when something dies
00:17:08
it's eaten just as in East Africa when a
00:17:11
8 ton elephant dies in 72 hours it
00:17:14
completely disappears this is Nature's
00:17:16
Way does a species of apik creatures
00:17:19
roam the Pacific Northwest the
00:17:22
eyewitnesses we interviewed are
00:17:24
convinced that Bigfoot is
00:17:27
real and they hope that the scientists
00:17:30
will soon take
00:17:31
[Music]
00:17:35
notice what I saw there was a living
00:17:38
creature and not some figment in my
00:17:40
imagination modern science hasn't
00:17:43
absolutely proven by a dead object that
00:17:46
this thing exists but I tell you quite
00:17:49
frankly I've seen one I know it exists
00:17:51
and there is no doubt in my
00:17:57
mind coming up was it a death threat or
00:18:01
a possible prison sentence that sent
00:18:03
Fred Russell on the
00:18:15
run on a previous broadcast we told you
00:18:19
about two masked men who broke into the
00:18:21
home of a woman named Becky Wood they
00:18:24
seemed to know right where her safe was
00:18:26
hidden but they didn't have the comat
00:18:30
open the safe the men found Becky
00:18:33
upstairs give me
00:18:36
combination I've never felt so helpless
00:18:39
okay take it off the whole time he's
00:18:42
screaming where's the combination
00:18:43
where's the combination tell me the
00:18:45
combination to sa because beggy didn't
00:18:48
know the combination the robbers took
00:18:51
the entire safe which contained $18,000
00:18:54
in cash they also grabbed jewelry worth
00:18:57
$220,000
00:18:58
and then drove off in her
00:19:01
[Music]
00:19:05
car when Becky's jewelry turned up in a
00:19:08
pawn shop it was traced to a man named
00:19:10
Gary
00:19:11
Noble police soon learned that Gary
00:19:14
Noble's brother Ted had once worked for
00:19:17
Becky's family by then the noble
00:19:20
Brothers had dropped from sight they had
00:19:24
made statements that they had no tension
00:19:25
of being taken alive if confronted by
00:19:27
law enforcement
00:19:29
uh the way we entered our warrants is
00:19:32
with Extreme Caution on the two of
00:19:34
them
00:19:39
update after our broadcast the caller
00:19:41
reported that Gary Noble was working at
00:19:44
a construction site in Nashville
00:19:46
Tennessee 500 mil from Becky's
00:19:50
home they sent an agent out there and as
00:19:53
he was pulling in Gary was pulling out
00:19:55
he got caught in traffic and by the time
00:19:57
he caught back up with the car there
00:19:58
were two people in the car they got into
00:20:00
a Chase eventually they ended up having
00:20:02
to Ram the car in order to get Gary and
00:20:04
Ted to stop and then he placed him under
00:20:10
arrest the brothers were arrested after
00:20:13
18 months on the
00:20:16
run I was shocked that it all came
00:20:19
around like it
00:20:21
did and I hope
00:20:24
someday they learn what fear is
00:20:29
and I hope they get what's coming to
00:20:32
them Ted and Gary Noble both plad guilty
00:20:35
to all charges each received a sentence
00:20:38
of 3 to 15 years in prison they serve
00:20:42
their time and have been
00:20:49
released Pullman
00:20:55
Washington headlight came right right
00:20:57
into the driver's side
00:21:00
[Applause]
00:21:04
window and that's pretty much the last
00:21:06
thing I
00:21:07
remember and then I woke up about 10
00:21:10
minutes later I glass my eyes like
00:21:12
reason couldn't really see much just
00:21:13
because of all the
00:21:15
glass and uh just kind of looked around
00:21:17
and kind of clicked to me that there's
00:21:19
no way everybody could have made it out
00:21:21
of there and saw saw my friends on the
00:21:26
road it was ugly
00:21:29
that's real
00:21:32
ugly Matt Wagner survived a horrific
00:21:36
forcar accident but three of his friends
00:21:39
were not so lucky Brandon
00:21:42
Clemens Ryan senson and Ryan's
00:21:46
girlfriend Stacy Marl were all killed
00:21:51
instantly Stacy was my daughter Stacy
00:21:53
gret and Marl she was 21 going to turn
00:21:57
22
00:21:59
a student at Washington State University
00:22:02
and just one of the most beautiful young
00:22:05
ladies I ever
00:22:08
knew police believe that 22-year-old
00:22:11
Fred Russell caused the accident by
00:22:13
driving recklessly he was charged with
00:22:16
three counts of vehicular homicide and
00:22:19
four counts of vehicular
00:22:21
assault do I believe that that accident
00:22:24
was caused primarily by my son I don't
00:22:29
I think there were a lot of causes and I
00:22:31
think there were a lot of people
00:22:33
responsible for what happened on that
00:22:35
road that
00:22:36
[Applause]
00:22:39
night was Fred Russell innocent of the
00:22:41
charges against them well this tragic
00:22:44
case divided the town of Pullman
00:22:46
Washington into two Waring camps and
00:22:49
then suddenly Fred Russell
00:22:55
disappeared right big guy investiga
00:22:58
piece together Russell's activities in
00:23:00
the hours just before the deadly
00:23:04
crash I think that I will have a Dr
00:23:07
several witnesses claim that they saw
00:23:09
Russell and his friend Jacob McFarland
00:23:12
drinking at a local bar I'm driving I'm
00:23:15
driving Russell and McFarland were seen
00:23:17
leaving the bar at about 10
00:23:23
p.m. they turned on to a two-lane
00:23:26
Highway Russell was driving
00:23:33
wo pick it up this is ridiculous lady
00:23:36
pick it up police reports state that
00:23:39
Russell got stuck behind a slow moving
00:23:41
vehicle lady you're moving at like 10
00:23:44
miles in hour a son of and even though
00:23:46
he was in a no passing zone Russell sped
00:23:49
up and tried to pass the car at 90 M an
00:23:57
hour police believe that his Chevy
00:23:59
Blazer first struck a Geo Prism heading
00:24:02
in the opposite
00:24:05
direction and then the Cadillac carrying
00:24:08
Matt Wagner and six of his best
00:24:12
friends three were dead three others
00:24:15
critically
00:24:17
injured but Russell and McFarland walked
00:24:20
away with minor
00:24:23
injuries what that 2 hours after the
00:24:27
accident Russell's blood alcohol level
00:24:30
was tested at a nearby
00:24:33
hospital it measured
00:24:35
.12 well above the legal
00:24:39
limit later Russell was arrested at his
00:24:45
home we believe that he poses no Flight
00:24:48
Risk Fred Russell was released on a
00:24:51
$5,000 bail and allowed to remain free
00:24:55
until his
00:24:56
trial oh that was pretty hard to take
00:24:59
you know when you lose your three
00:25:00
friends if feels like somebody murdered
00:25:02
him kind of feel like the guy should be
00:25:04
behind bars right away and he shouldn't
00:25:06
be able to be out be out in public
00:25:08
anymore that the bail is so low as to be
00:25:11
nothing other than a slap on the wrist
00:25:13
is almost insulting to victims and their
00:25:19
families Fred's legal team prepared for
00:25:22
his
00:25:22
defense they filed a motion disputing
00:25:25
the blood alcohol findings and question
00:25:28
whether he was really responsible for
00:25:30
the
00:25:30
accident I was shown toxicology reports
00:25:34
of the deceased driver of the Cadillac
00:25:36
that indicated there were drugs and
00:25:38
alcohol in his system I was shown
00:25:40
toxicology reports of other occupants
00:25:43
that showed that there were drugs and
00:25:45
alcohol in their systems as well uh meth
00:25:47
and marijuana there was absolutely
00:25:49
nothing in the system of the deant that
00:25:52
contributed in any way either to the
00:25:54
Collision or to their subsequent death
00:25:58
I think that the accusation by Greg
00:26:01
Russell that is clearly intended to
00:26:04
Cloud the issue of his son's
00:26:07
responsibility in this case is
00:26:13
sinful the community was outraged Fred
00:26:17
Russell and his supporters claim that he
00:26:20
started to receive threats you're going
00:26:22
to go to prison for a long time you
00:26:24
worthless piece of trash you're a
00:26:25
scumbag you're a loser you're gutter
00:26:27
trash the death threats that he
00:26:28
indicated that he received were two
00:26:30
phone calls in July early July every
00:26:33
person you've killed I hope someone put
00:26:35
the bullet in your head I hope if your
00:26:36
mom's still alive her throat's cut and
00:26:38
then we received information that a card
00:26:41
was left at the front doorstep um of of
00:26:45
the residence that he was at um
00:26:48
indicating that he wouldn't live to see
00:26:50
his
00:26:53
trial 4 weeks after receiving that
00:26:55
threat Russell disappeared
00:26:58
a few days later local newspapers
00:27:01
received copies of a letter signed by
00:27:03
Fred
00:27:04
Russell in part it
00:27:07
read I left because I had no choice
00:27:10
since the first day after the tragic
00:27:12
accident horrible things have been
00:27:14
printed about me now people are so
00:27:17
enraged that they would rather see me
00:27:18
dead than receive a fair trial I
00:27:21
maintain my innocence but my life has
00:27:23
been repeatedly threatened so I cannot
00:27:26
stay
00:27:32
update after more than 5 years on the
00:27:34
run Fred Russell was captured in Dublin
00:27:38
Ireland acting on information from the
00:27:41
US Marshals Irish police arrested
00:27:43
Russell in a Dublin clothing store he
00:27:45
was working at the store as a security
00:27:48
guard he was brought back to the US for
00:27:51
trial Russell was found guilty on three
00:27:54
counts of vehicular homicide and three
00:27:56
counts of vehicular assault assult he
00:27:59
received the maximum sentence 14 years
00:28:02
and 3 months in prison he served its
00:28:05
time and has been
00:28:08
released next forensic testing by noted
00:28:12
pathologist Dr Sarah wck reveals that
00:28:15
the accidental death of a college
00:28:16
student may have actually been murder
00:28:30
Dr sah wet is a top forensic pathologist
00:28:34
a real life CSI investigator he has
00:28:37
worked on thousands of cases but there's
00:28:40
one case that continues to haunt him the
00:28:43
death of a 20-year-old college
00:28:49
student it was on a Wednesday evening
00:28:52
that authorities found the body of Jack
00:28:54
Davis
00:28:56
Jr he was stalled at the bottom of a
00:28:58
stairwell at a Pennsylvania college
00:29:02
campus Jack was last seen the previous
00:29:05
Friday at a party with some of his
00:29:07
fraternity
00:29:08
[Music]
00:29:10
Brothers Jack's body was autopsied by a
00:29:13
local
00:29:17
pathologist the results were sent to
00:29:19
County coroner Thomas streams who
00:29:21
determined that Jack's death was
00:29:25
accidental the body was not in disarray
00:29:28
from a fight there was no signs of
00:29:30
defensive wounds uh as as a struggle
00:29:33
there were no drag marks there was just
00:29:34
nothing un remarkably about the
00:29:38
body the scenario was that Mr Davis
00:29:41
wandered down into the stairwell in an
00:29:43
intoxicated
00:29:44
State perhaps to urinate collapsed in an
00:29:48
unconscious
00:29:49
State vomited inhaled the vomit us into
00:29:52
his
00:29:53
lungs which therefore then subsequently
00:29:55
caused his death
00:29:58
the official report concluded that Jack
00:30:00
died early Saturday morning several
00:30:03
hours after he had
00:30:05
disappeared incredibly it appeared that
00:30:08
his body stayed in the stairwell for
00:30:10
nearly 5
00:30:12
days I couldn't believe or comprehend
00:30:16
that that he could have died that way
00:30:18
and I was told that was uncommon
00:30:22
occurrence um I found it hard to believe
00:30:28
as Jack's family grieved their doubts
00:30:30
about the official findings began to
00:30:33
grow and then a local reporter began to
00:30:36
publicly question the coroner's
00:30:39
ruling finally Jack's family turned to
00:30:42
Dr
00:30:43
we before I got into the medical aspects
00:30:46
of the case I was just puzzled as a
00:30:48
matter of Common Sense How could a body
00:30:50
have been lying outside on a college
00:30:53
campus in the early fall for five or
00:30:56
more days unseen un noticed by
00:30:58
anybody the other thing that puzzled me
00:31:02
was I thought gee why would a young man
00:31:05
in the early hours of the morning walk
00:31:08
15 Steps then a landing and another five
00:31:11
steps to
00:31:13
urinate I remember when I went to
00:31:15
college and I remember uh what young men
00:31:19
will do if they have to urinate
00:31:20
especially if they are inebriated not
00:31:22
too many people have that kind of of
00:31:25
discretion and um personal sensitivity
00:31:29
so you see that did not fit either we've
00:31:32
managed to get a a copy of the
00:31:34
toxicology report almost immediately Dr
00:31:38
W found discrepancies in the toxicology
00:31:42
report Jack was drinking heavily on the
00:31:44
night he supposedly died yet absolutely
00:31:47
no alcohol was found in his
00:31:50
blood whatever level you have at the
00:31:52
time of your death will be the level
00:31:54
that will be found later
00:31:56
on in order for for him to have wound up
00:31:59
with no alcohol in his blood at the time
00:32:01
of his death he would have had to have
00:32:02
been alive for about 30 hours the fact
00:32:05
then that there was no alcohol in his
00:32:08
blood indicates to me that he did not
00:32:11
die at that time when they theorized he
00:32:14
had fallen down the
00:32:16
steps Dr wet found other evidence as
00:32:20
well Jack was clean shaven Friday night
00:32:23
when he was last seen But when his body
00:32:25
was found there was Heavy stubble on his
00:32:28
face and one final discrepancy the
00:32:32
autopsy slides of Jack's lungs prove
00:32:35
that choking on regurgitated food did
00:32:38
not cause his
00:32:40
death if you're going to list that as a
00:32:42
cause to death you've got to find food
00:32:45
particles deep down inside the small uh
00:32:48
terminal air passageways and that wasn't
00:32:52
present the other thing about the
00:32:54
autopsy that really stood out for me was
00:32:57
that the head had not been examined the
00:33:00
pathologist who did the
00:33:02
autopsy had not opened up the cranial
00:33:06
vault at that time we all agreed as a
00:33:09
family and with Dr wack that the um body
00:33:13
needed to be
00:33:16
exed it was the only way we would find
00:33:18
out the true cause of
00:33:21
death when I opened up the skull I found
00:33:24
three fractures three areas of skull
00:33:27
fracture with significant bleeding
00:33:29
overlying the brain it's a blood clot
00:33:32
it's a pulling of blood and um that was
00:33:36
the quer death which had never been
00:33:38
appreciated because the head hadn't been
00:33:39
examined in the first autopsy yeah you
00:33:42
could come in all f with the university
00:33:44
official Dr W examined the stairwell
00:33:47
where Jack's body was found was some
00:33:50
students saw him first then and reported
00:33:52
them to the campus that's correct I
00:33:54
realized that that body could not have
00:33:57
accidentally fallen or been thrown from
00:34:00
high up because he would have had
00:34:03
eggshell depressed type fractures
00:34:05
similarly it did not appear that he had
00:34:07
stumbled down the steps because there
00:34:10
was no pattern of abrasions and bruises
00:34:14
and so that did not
00:34:16
fit there were approximately 200
00:34:19
students in rooms overlooking the
00:34:21
stairwell during the days Jack
00:34:23
supposedly lay below right down you can
00:34:27
see clearly you certainly can see
00:34:29
directly there and average
00:34:32
height
00:34:33
thanks in spite of the unobstructed view
00:34:36
not one person reported seeing the
00:34:41
body there was one final problem with
00:34:44
the official finding of accidental death
00:34:47
during the 2 days before Jack's body was
00:34:49
found heavy rain fell on the
00:34:52
campas Jack's clothes were not
00:34:56
wet I would say it is more likely that
00:34:59
Jack Davis died elsewhere or was injured
00:35:02
elsewhere and then was placed at the
00:35:04
bottom of those steps I base this upon
00:35:07
the known
00:35:08
facts Dr wet is not alone reporter
00:35:12
Marlene Brennan theorizes that Jack may
00:35:15
have been in a feud between two rival
00:35:19
fraternities some students report that
00:35:21
there were up to five fights that night
00:35:24
and it could be possible that he was
00:35:26
involved in one of them and he was
00:35:27
injured and someone didn't know what to
00:35:31
do with him so they kept him somewhere
00:35:33
thinking that he might get better or
00:35:35
whatever and he didn't and then they
00:35:37
moved him into the
00:35:39
stairwell I believe somebody out there
00:35:41
does know something and I'm hoping that
00:35:44
um perhaps with continuing inquiries by
00:35:47
the family and friends perhaps through
00:35:50
the presentation of this show that
00:35:52
somebody May step
00:35:56
forward Dr
00:35:58
is convinced that someone who attended
00:36:00
Indiana University of Pennsylvania knows
00:36:03
what really happened to Jack Davis Jr
00:36:06
perhaps the time has come to set the
00:36:09
record
00:36:10
straight if you have any information

Carolina a speeding car with three men
00:36:49
inside is pull over on a desolate Road
00:36:52
leading to the local
00:36:54
marina I approached the vehicle on a
00:36:57
driver side and said good evening could
00:36:59
I see your license and registration at
00:37:03
that point I got virtually no response I
00:37:07
figured maybe he didn't hear me so I
00:37:08
asked him again sir could I see your
00:37:11
license and registration
00:37:14
please the person in the back seat said
00:37:17
something in a foreign language which I
00:37:20
think was Spanish the driver then
00:37:22
responded by pulling out a what turned
00:37:26
out to be a passport
00:37:28
your Pap work D sir I told him to slow
00:37:31
it down and be careful he never said yes
00:37:34
or thank you the two guys in the front
00:37:37
seat never spoke a
00:37:40
word the next morning officer Banger was
00:37:43
surprised to learn that the two men in
00:37:45
the car he had stopped were French
00:37:47
Sailors who were supposedly missing at
00:37:49
Sea they were the focus of an intense

month-long search by the Coast
00:37:54

they were hired to deliver a french-made

00:38:18
Indies their vessel was a

state-of-the-art Antigua catamaran worth
00:38:25
$200,000 the boat was the most
00:38:27
sophisticated of its kind it was
00:38:29
outfitted with high-tech radar a
00:38:31
satellite tracking unit and electronic
00:38:34
navigation equipment the Antigua's
00:38:37
unique construction made it Unsinkable
00:38:40
and virtually undetectable to
00:38:42
radar it was a perfect vessel for
00:38:45
transporting weapons or
00:38:48
drugs Eve Emanuel and lauron plan to
00:38:51
sail down the Chesapeake Bay around Cape
00:38:55
Hatteras and then parallel the east East
00:38:57
Coast before heading to their final
00:38:59
destination
00:39:02
guadaloop the Coast Guard was notified
00:39:04
when the Antigua failed to arrive on
00:39:07
schedule me out 9:00 we searched for a
00:39:09
little over 2
00:39:11
weeks we also alerted all the Cutters
00:39:13
and aircraft who search throughout the
00:39:15
Caribbean every day for other things
00:39:17
never saw one sight of the vessel it
00:39:20
never showed up I've never seen it
00:39:23
since the Coast Guard discovered that
00:39:26
the Antigua was cited a number of times
00:39:28
several miles off course in the intra
00:39:31
Coastal
00:39:32
Waterway the Waterway is a protected
00:39:35
Inland passage that stretches from New
00:39:38
England through
00:39:39
Florida nobody can explain what the boat
00:39:42
was doing there have you seen this this
00:39:46
boat and these two guys two of Eve
00:39:48
emanuel's friends flew in from France to
00:39:50
South Carolina to launch their own
00:39:53
investigation they began by retracing
00:39:56
the catamaran route
00:40:00
the first up was a bridge 90 Mi north of
00:40:03
Charleston South Carolina Hi how are you
00:40:07
we are looking for this French boat
00:40:10
disappeared on the waterway in November
00:40:12
the bridge tender remembered seeing the
00:40:14
two missing
00:40:16
Sailors he said there was a third man on
00:40:19
the
00:40:20
boat a third person is not supposed to
00:40:23
be on board the fact Greg Flynn is a
00:40:26
local yachtsman who who helped in the
00:40:29
search something
00:40:31
happened that uh had not been planned
00:40:35
for the mysterious third passenger was
00:40:38
cited by at least five different
00:40:40
Witnesses each reported that the man did
00:40:43
not seem threatening leading to rumors
00:40:45
that perhaps one or both of the
00:40:47
Frenchmen had been involved in stealing
00:40:49
the boat but their families and friends
00:40:52
do not accept that
00:40:55
theory as you
00:41:00
truly Emanuel is not the type of person
00:41:02
who would do something like that he was
00:41:04
training someone he didn't know
00:41:05
beforehand and felt responsible both for
00:41:08
the boat and for lauron it's it's
00:41:10
impossible that if Emanuel would have
00:41:11
involved lauron in some dangerous
00:41:14
Adventure even if it meant making
00:41:16
enormous sums of
00:41:20
money Jean Eve lenck is convinced that
00:41:24
the stranger hijacked the Antigua but
00:41:26
did not know how to sail
00:41:30
it if the purpose was simply to steal
00:41:32
the boat they would have just killed
00:41:34
Emanuel and Laur thrown them overboard
00:41:37
there must have been a reason for
00:41:38
keeping them alive and logically that
00:41:41
seems to be just to keep the board
00:41:46
going were the two French Sailors held
00:41:49
against their will or did they though it
00:41:51
seems unlikely fool everyone and make
00:41:55
off with a $200,000
00:42:00
price if you have any information about
00:42:03
this case or any of the other cases we
00:42:05
profiled tonight please log on to our
