00:00:07
of all the stories that I've told in 20
00:00:09
years if someone says Mark
00:00:14
plunky I immediately get a pit in my
00:00:17
stomach it was shocking to think that a
00:00:19
monster was living in this small town
00:00:22
Mark latony killed his victim and
00:00:26
cannibalized him the details were
00:00:28
horrific and Terri horrifying something
00:00:30
out of a movie like Silence of the Lamb
00:00:33
something you'd expect of a serial
00:00:35
killer the fact that the man I once
00:00:37
loved could do this disgusts me he's not
00:00:41
my dad anymore the person that he is now
00:00:43
is not who my dad was Mark lony's
00:00:47
Behavior has all the signs of
00:00:49
potentially being a mass killer like
00:00:51
Jeffrey
00:00:52
Dalmer Mark should spend the rest of his
00:00:55
life in prison for what he did he's not
00:00:58
predictable he won't stay on medic
00:01:01
he has a mental
00:01:03
illness but I do wish it were
00:01:05
different I wish I had a dad

ex-wife this photo is of him in the
00:01:41
house that we bought together after we
00:01:43
got engaged he was so excited about
00:01:47
buying a house together and he wanted me
00:01:51
to be happy with what the house looked
00:01:53
like it was very old and the foundation
00:01:56
was crumbling so we had it lifted and
00:01:58
put a whole new base underneath
00:02:00
[Music]
00:02:02
it this is a photo of the house shortly
00:02:05
after the basement was
00:02:07
completed we bought this house with the
00:02:09
intention of raising our family and
00:02:11
having love and laughter and fun and it
00:02:16
being the house that we would be in
00:02:17
forever and
00:02:19
I never could have imagined that it
00:02:21
would be the scene of a horrific crime
00:02:23
in the
00:02:25
future it was in this basement in
00:02:28
Maurice Michigan that 50-year-old Mark
00:02:31
latony killed 25-year-old Kevin
00:02:36
Bacon Mark picked him up brought him to
00:02:40
his house they had consensual sex and
00:02:45
then Mark stabbed
00:02:48
him and when that didn't work he slid
00:02:50
his
00:02:53
throat Mark lonky hung him up by his
00:02:57
ankles and at his testicles
00:03:02
Mark had transformed the basement that
00:03:05
he'd first built as a play area for his
00:03:10
children this was Mark lony's Sex
00:03:12
Dungeon in the basement and this is the
00:03:15
room where Kevin Bacon's body was
00:03:19
found my name is David kuster I'm a
00:03:22
reporter in Michigan and we extensively
00:03:24
covered the case involving Kevin Bacon
00:03:27
and Mark lensky
00:03:29
this story was unlike any other story
00:03:32
that we've ever told and I've been doing
00:03:35
this for a couple of decades now when
00:03:37
someone brings it up immediately just
00:03:40
sends chills down my
00:03:42
[Music]
00:03:44
spine when we think about maybe what had
00:03:47
happened in Kevin's final minutes it
00:03:50
makes you sick to your stomach it's just
00:03:52
hard to believe that another human could
00:03:55
do this to someone
00:03:57
[Music]
00:04:01
we are at Mark Lansky's house it's
00:04:04
abandoned nobody's living in it and it
00:04:07
breaks my heart that this was the house
00:04:09
where we were supposed to raise our
00:04:10
family
00:04:15
[Music]
00:04:24
together Mark and I met through mutual
00:04:27
friends and they decided to set us up on
00:04:29
a date
00:04:29
[Music]
00:04:31
I liked his calmness he was very
00:04:36
passionate about the things that he
00:04:37
believed in I liked that he was very
00:04:42
hardworking and kind he was very
00:04:46
kind at the time Emily was working as a
00:04:49
preschool assistant teacher Mark was a
00:04:52
research
00:04:54
chemist he went to school to be a
00:04:56
chemist graduated from Central Michigan
00:04:58
University and then went went to Iowa
00:05:00
State University and graduated from
00:05:02
there with his
00:05:03
Masters Mark lunsky was an extremely
00:05:07
intelligent person he was valid
00:05:09
dictorian of his class he graduated top
00:05:11
of his class he went to college went to
00:05:14
two different universities and then
00:05:16
moved back to his hometown he got a job
00:05:20
at a chemical company as a lab
00:05:25
manager Emily fell in love with Mark
00:05:27
over the course of a year of dating
00:05:31
I liked the fact that Mark was a very
00:05:34
gentlemanly person he was quiet he was
00:05:38
kind and he was also so active in our
00:05:41
community and he was always willing to
00:05:43
help people if they needed
00:05:45
help he always kept his hair short he
00:05:48
was always clean shaven he might grow a
00:05:50
mustache here and
00:05:50
[Music]
00:05:52
there he wore khaki pants and
00:05:55
button-down shirts and he always looked
00:05:58
put together and clean cut
00:05:59
[Music]
00:06:03
the couple got engaged in 2001 and then
00:06:06
married in August of that same
00:06:10
year this is a photo of our wedding he
00:06:14
proposed to me under a hickory tree in a
00:06:17
field that he owned um he told me he
00:06:20
wanted our love to last as long as the
00:06:22
hickory tree had been standing in
00:06:26
longer I had been hoping that he would
00:06:28
do it for a while and he was taking his
00:06:31
time he was making me wait and so when
00:06:33
he finally proposed I was really
00:06:38
excited the marriage was good we didn't
00:06:41
argue or fight at all he was always calm
00:06:44
quiet when he was around we bought an
00:06:46
old house and tore it down to the studs
00:06:48
and he was always working when he found
00:06:51
a project he worked and worked on it
00:06:53
until he was done he's always needed
00:06:54
something to do
00:06:57
[Music]
00:06:59
the couple went on to have four
00:07:02
children our first child was born in
00:07:06
2003 after our son was born he was about
00:07:10
16 months old and we had a
00:07:13
daughter when you were born he was
00:07:15
excited cuz he already had a boy so he
00:07:17
was happy to have a girl and he loved to
00:07:20
sit on the couch and hold you when you
00:07:22
were
00:07:24
sleeping I remember him putting me on
00:07:26
his shoulders and running around the
00:07:28
living room when I was
00:07:32
little my name is Eliza Lansky I am 19
00:07:36
years
00:07:38
old my earliest memory of my dad is
00:07:40
probably when he brought home a bunch of
00:07:43
shredded up paper from work and he
00:07:46
spread it all across one of our rooms in
00:07:49
our basement and we played in it and we
00:07:50
called it the confetti room and one time
00:07:53
where we were down there just making
00:07:55
balls of paper and throwing them at each
00:07:57
other and having a good time
00:07:59
[Music]
00:08:03
I would describe my family as normal
00:08:06
traditional I feel like he was like any
00:08:08
other dad he loved me I loved
00:08:15
him but everything in the lives of this
00:08:17
happy regular family slowly began to
00:08:24
change there was one time I found a
00:08:27
picture on his computer and it was of a
00:08:29
naked
00:08:30
man he told me that he just wanted to
00:08:32
make sure that he measured up that I was
00:08:34
okay with how he looked and that he was
00:08:37
you know that he was okay for me and I
00:08:39
was like you're fine you don't have to
00:08:42
compare yourself to anybody else you're
00:08:43
fine just the way you
00:08:45
are there could have been some internal
00:08:48
battles with Mark's
00:08:50
sexuality he may have been bisexual or
00:08:54
it may be that he had a wife cuz he felt
00:08:57
that that's the thing he should do then
00:09:00
in
00:09:00
2010 Emily became concerned about her
00:09:03
husband's state of
00:09:06
mind we noticed his mental health
00:09:08
slipping on the day of my son's birthday
00:09:12
party where he came out with these
00:09:15
stories that he believed he was going to
00:09:17
be the heir of a big trust fund and that
00:09:20
it was being kept for him by somebody
00:09:22
but he didn't know who a lot of the
00:09:25
things he was saying were very
00:09:26
concerning they were very paranoid
00:09:28
thoughts and and thoughts that were not
00:09:31
[Music]
00:09:35
realistic he was starting to have
00:09:37
something called
00:09:38
delusions almost losing touch with
00:09:41
reality and that can be indicative of
00:09:47
psychosis and
00:09:53
schizophrenia he was such a gentle
00:09:57
person he didn't hunt animals he didn't
00:09:59
kill anything and I can't even imagine
00:10:03
him killing anything now sometimes I
00:10:06
still think about it
00:10:07
and can't believe that he did
00:10:11
[Music]
00:10:14
it Emily and Mark lensy had been happily
00:10:18
married for 9 years and had four
00:10:20
children when Mark started to exhibit
00:10:23
signs of mental illness their
00:10:25
relationship began to change
00:10:30
he came out with a theory that he was
00:10:32
not actually his mother's son but he was
00:10:35
his mother's
00:10:37
brother and that there was a family
00:10:39
fortune that it was his to inherit he
00:10:42
said that he
00:10:43
was a person who was protected with an
00:10:46
alternate name that Mark lonsky wasn't
00:10:49
actually his real name Emily convinced
00:10:52
Mark to check into a mental health
00:10:54
hospital where he remained for 5
00:10:57
days my mom sat me and my brother down
00:11:00
on the couch and told us he was in the
00:11:02
hospital and I couldn't understand it at
00:11:04
the time cuz I was
00:11:09
little they said he was under extreme
00:11:11
stress there had been some issues going
00:11:13
on with his family at the
00:11:15
time and they sent him home on a
00:11:19
medication that he stopped taking as
00:11:22
soon as he got
00:11:23
home he told me he didn't need
00:11:25
medication there was nothing wrong with
00:11:26
him
00:11:29
Mark also made a shocking
00:11:32
Revelation he had admitted to me that he
00:11:35
had slept with men on his business trips
00:11:38
and that he had gone on the internet and
00:11:40
found people to sleep
00:11:45
with Emily and Mark agreed to attend
00:11:48
marriage counseling to try and keep
00:11:51
their family
00:11:52
together he told me he did not want to
00:11:55
break up he wanted to stay together he
00:11:57
he was going to stop having affairs he
00:11:59
wanted our marriage to work he didn't
00:12:01
want me to leave and so I told him I
00:12:04
would work on it for a
00:12:06
year he didn't take it seriously it
00:12:09
didn't really work and eventually he
00:12:11
started going back to doing the things
00:12:12
that he was
00:12:15
doing as Mark wasn't taking his
00:12:17
medication his mental health only got
00:12:20
worse that combined with Mark's Affairs
00:12:23
meant that in May
00:12:25
2012 Emily asked him for a divorce
00:12:31
I was upset because I wanted to be
00:12:33
married forever I wanted my children to
00:12:35
have a stable home I didn't want to have
00:12:37
them have divorced parents I was upset
00:12:40
that he had
00:12:44
cheated Emily took the children and went
00:12:47
to live with her parents picking up her
00:12:50
old job as a teaching
00:12:54
assistant after the divorce we saw him
00:12:57
every other weekend
00:13:00
the visits with my dad were
00:13:03
unsupervised being at his house we would
00:13:06
do fun things almost every weekend I
00:13:08
remember going to the zoo and playing in
00:13:12
the
00:13:14
yard just a month later Mark was
00:13:17
readmitted to a mental health
00:13:20
facility they diagnosed him with
00:13:22
paranoid schizophrenia and extreme
00:13:25
depression he came home on medication
00:13:28
and again refused to take
00:13:31
it and he believed that we were trying
00:13:33
to poison him and that we were all
00:13:35
against
00:13:41
him with schizophrenia it can be that
00:13:45
it's been lying dormant and actually
00:13:47
stressful life events can trigger an
00:13:50
episode it could be hypothesized that he
00:13:53
was dealing with an internal struggle
00:13:55
about his sexuality and then stress that
00:13:58
he was experiencing triggered an episode
00:14:02
of
00:14:05
schizophrenia Mark was permitted custody
00:14:07
of the children for 2 weeks during the
00:14:09
summer of
00:14:15
2013 but when he was due to give the
00:14:17
kids back to Emily they didn't show
00:14:21
up I called him and I said hey are you
00:14:24
on your way and he said no and I said
00:14:28
you need to bring the kids back and he
00:14:30
said I'm not going to bring them back
00:14:32
and if you don't like it you can call
00:14:34
the police so I called the police and
00:14:37
the police told me there was nothing
00:14:38
they could
00:14:40
do my lawyer was able to get an order
00:14:43
ordering the immediate return of my kids
00:14:45
for the next day and so when we went to
00:14:48
his house with the order um he was gone
00:14:50
he wasn't there and the kids were not
00:14:52
there and the police called him and he
00:14:54
answered the phone and he told them he
00:14:56
was at a water park with the kids and he
00:14:59
was not bringing them
00:15:02
back I was only 9 we all sat down
00:15:06
outside on a picnic table and he told us
00:15:08
we were going to a water park and that
00:15:10
was kind of exciting from what I
00:15:12
remember and we all got in the car and
00:15:13
drove there and then at the water park
00:15:17
we were playing and splashing
00:15:21
around I did not realize that we were
00:15:26
kidnapped the police went to the water
00:15:28
park arrested Mark and safely returned
00:15:31
the children to
00:15:33
Emily he was charged with two counts of
00:15:36
attempted kidnapping and custodial
00:15:39
interference he was found not competent
00:15:43
to stand trial for those charges and so
00:15:46
they eventually dropped them because
00:15:48
they decided it wasn't worth Prosecuting
00:15:49
him
00:15:51
for it's difficult to work out in that
00:15:55
period of time whether Mark is losing
00:15:58
his connection with reality and in his
00:16:00
head he strongly believes that um Emily
00:16:04
is a bad person and he needs to hang on
00:16:06
to his kids or is this part of a battle
00:16:11
with her where he feels AG grieved that
00:16:14
she's left him and he wants to hang on
00:16:16
to the kids as a form of
00:16:19
punishment He was ordered only
00:16:21
supervised visits with the kids the
00:16:23
judge told me that I could set up
00:16:26
supervised visits with him and so I did
00:16:28
that the first visit he came to and then
00:16:31
after that he didn't show
00:16:33
up he didn't like being supervised so he
00:16:36
decided not to see
00:16:38
them I had no contact with my dad for 4
00:16:41
years after the
00:16:44
incident I feel like I got quite angry
00:16:47
in those four years because he wasn't
00:16:49
there and I no longer had a normal
00:16:56
family during the four years Eliza
00:16:58
didn't see her father Mark got remarried
00:17:02
this time to a man named
00:17:05
Jamie Jamie described Mark as a loving
00:17:10
husband he said he was happy in the
00:17:12
relationship they had a lot of things in
00:17:15
common they enjoyed each other's company
00:17:17
and it was just a great start to their
00:17:20
relationship I never tried to contact
00:17:22
Mark during that time he was still
00:17:24
paying child support so I never had a
00:17:26
reason to contact him the kids were dis
00:17:28
connected from him they were upset with
00:17:31
him that he had taken them and not
00:17:33
returned them so they never really asked
00:17:36
to see
00:17:37
him in
00:17:39
2018 Mark suddenly got back in touch
00:17:42
with
00:17:43
Emily Mark contacted me through my
00:17:45
lawyer with a letter and he told me that
00:17:47
he wanted to start seeing the children
00:17:49
again it was just us being told one day
00:17:52
that we were going to have visits with
00:17:53
our dad
00:17:55
again there was no connection anymore he
00:17:59
was my dad and I did love him but it was
00:18:01
still
00:18:03
[Music]
00:18:05
awkward I was angry because it felt like
00:18:08
he abandoned us and now he just got back
00:18:11
like nothing
00:18:13
happened there was no I'm sorry it was
00:18:17
just he was my dad
00:18:23
again you've got a father who has gone
00:18:26
away and then returns as if nothing has
00:18:30
happened and for a child that is
00:18:32
incredibly difficult to wrap your head
00:18:35
around because in that moment you feel
00:18:38
angry abandoned rage fueled because he
00:18:42
how could you do this to
00:18:45
me Eliza's response is entirely natural
00:18:49
for the circumstances that she's
00:18:53
in when Eliza met up with her dad again
00:18:57
she hardly recognized him
00:18:59
his hair was pretty long and his beard
00:19:01
was long and braided his appearance
00:19:04
changed drastically he always was clean
00:19:09
cut and then he had long hair long beard
00:19:14
and he looked very
00:19:18
unkent then suddenly Mark's relationship
00:19:21
with both his kids and his husband would
00:19:24
come to an
00:19:26
end the kid stopped seeing Mark in
00:19:29
February of 2019 he lost his job and
00:19:33
after he lost his job he his mental
00:19:35
status deteriorated to the point where
00:19:37
he was very adamant that the kids were
00:19:39
not his and he was not going to see them
00:19:42
anymore we didn't know that they were
00:19:44
going to stop they just
00:19:46
stopped I think it was because he was
00:19:49
degrading
00:19:52
mentally Jamie said he left Mark in
00:19:56
September of 2019 because he felt he
00:19:58
wasn't the only one in the relationship
00:20:01
he said Mark was online a lot and trying
00:20:04
to find sexual
00:20:06
partners he started to tell jimie that
00:20:09
people were out to get him and that
00:20:11
people were listening to him and
00:20:13
surveying him so Jamie started to notice
00:20:17
these signs and became a little
00:20:19
concerned and Afraid for
00:20:21
[Music]
00:20:23
himself I was not aware of what Mark was
00:20:26
doing for work after he lost his job
00:20:29
I learned later that he was selling
00:20:31
himself on various websites he would do
00:20:34
whatever the men wanted to if they
00:20:35
wanted to have sex he would have sex
00:20:37
with them if they wanted just to cuddle
00:20:39
he would cuddle with them he was open to
00:20:40
doing whatever as long as they paid
00:20:43
[Music]
00:20:47
him these crime scene pictures are
00:20:50
really quite shocking here we can see
00:20:53
what is basically a torture room he's
00:20:56
got all different types of parapan falia
00:20:59
to
00:21:01
torture and to engage in sexual
00:21:05
acts I think it's quite obvious that
00:21:08
there was a lot of planning and this is
00:21:11
something that he enjoyed
00:21:17
doing in late
00:21:20
2019 Mark latony had deteriorating
00:21:23
mental health he was now living alone
00:21:26
after his husband had left him and he
00:21:29
was no longer in contact with his
00:21:30
ex-wife and
00:21:32
[Music]
00:21:35
children he had also lost his job and
00:21:39
had started selling himself for sex on
00:21:41
different
00:21:42
websites there were two separate
00:21:44
incidents where two men had been
00:21:47
reportedly escaping from Mark Lansky's
00:21:51
home one man in October had escaped
00:21:54
called 911 said he was being held
00:21:56
captive in Mark's basement said he
00:21:59
needed help wanted police to come but
00:22:01
when police arrived he said that it was
00:22:04
all consensual and didn't press charges
00:22:07
another incident very similar to that
00:22:09
had happened in November another man had
00:22:11
escaped Mark Lansky's home he ran to a
00:22:14
neighbor's
00:22:15
house he was pounding on a neighbor's
00:22:18
door screaming help me help me police
00:22:22
spoke to the man briefly and again
00:22:24
determined that there was no crime and
00:22:27
said that it was consensual
00:22:29
he's telling us one side of the story we
00:22:31
want to get yours us that man was
00:22:34
obviously really fearful which suggests
00:22:38
that he was actually running for his
00:22:41
[Music]
00:22:54
life on Christmas Eve 2019 a young man
00:22:58
called Kevin Bacon had been chatting to
00:23:00
mark lunsky on grinder and they were
00:23:03
discussing what they would like to do to
00:23:06
each other
00:23:07
sexually Kevin Bacon was a hair stylist
00:23:11
in the Flint Michigan area he was
00:23:14
attending University at the University
00:23:16
of Michigan Flint he was described by
00:23:20
his co-workers and friends as a nice uh
00:23:23
empathetic kind-hearted person he often
00:23:26
would get on apps like grinder
00:23:28
for sexual
00:23:33
hookups Mark picked Kevin up at a
00:23:35
shopping
00:23:37
center he had a play scenario going on
00:23:41
where he let Kevin choose things to wear
00:23:44
and from what I understood he wanted a
00:23:49
kidnapping type scenario so Mark brought
00:23:52
handcuffs and other things with him for
00:23:55
Kevin to put on when they got there
00:23:59
he put them on he got in the back of
00:24:01
Mark's
00:24:02
Car Mark drove him to his house
00:24:05
blindfolded and covered with a
00:24:12
[Music]
00:24:17
blanket the next morning on Christmas
00:24:20
Day Kevin was expected by his family but
00:24:24
when he didn't show up they started to
00:24:26
look for him his car was found at the
00:24:29
shopping center Kevin was reported
00:24:32
missing to the
00:24:35
police while everyone was searching for
00:24:38
Kevin and trying to find him Mark latony
00:24:41
was at Jim's house celebrating Christmas
00:24:45
jimie had invited him over because he
00:24:48
told me that he didn't want anybody to
00:24:51
be alone on
00:24:52
Christmas nothing was out of the
00:24:54
ordinary he wasn't acting unusual he
00:24:57
wasn't nervous he was acting like
00:25:00
himself completely
00:25:04
normal when I saw the posters of Kevin
00:25:06
Bacon I didn't think anything of it he
00:25:09
was from a town that was about 15 or 20
00:25:11
miles away from us so I never suspected
00:25:16
anything 3 days passed during which the
00:25:20
police had been able to investigate
00:25:22
Kevin's
00:25:24
vehicle when the police searched Kevin's
00:25:27
vehicle they they found a bag with
00:25:30
Kevin's clothing and his cell
00:25:32
phone that's when they knew something
00:25:34
was suspicious and they had gained
00:25:36
access to his cell phone they had
00:25:38
discovered the communication between
00:25:40
Mark lunsky and Kevin Bacon on grinder
00:25:43
and that's what led them to Mark
00:25:45
Lansky's
00:25:47
home on December the 28th the police
00:25:51
paid Mark a
00:25:53
visit he invited them
00:25:56
in he acted as a he wasn't trying to
00:25:59
hide
00:26:04
anything when police were looking around
00:26:07
the
00:26:09
house they had noticed that there was a
00:26:13
secret room in the
00:26:16
basement behind what they described as a
00:26:18
sliding barn
00:26:22
door and when they gained access that's
00:26:25
when they had found Kevin's body still
00:26:28
suspended upside down hanging in that
00:26:36
room Mark latony was arrested and placed
00:26:40
in the back of a police
00:26:43
[Music]
00:26:47
car do I look like a blacked blackeyed
00:26:51
[ __ ] what do you mean
00:26:54
lski oh is that that means yeah
00:26:58
the lonskis are all blackhaired
00:27:00
blackeyed
00:27:02
[ __ ] what's your other name that you go
00:27:06
by you're saying that lonsk is in the
00:27:08
system lonsky is the name in the system
00:27:12
my name is not lonsky what is
00:27:15
it Thomas Hill oh yeah he's doesn't seem
00:27:21
stressed he doesn't seem agitated he
00:27:24
he's not showing any signs that Kevin
00:27:28
Bacon's body has been hanging there dead
00:27:30
in his house for so many days right
00:27:33
now but is also saying he's not who he
00:27:36
says he is which kind of shows signs
00:27:39
that he suffers some severe mental
00:27:41
illness just by the way that he's acting
00:27:43
in this police cruiser he's claiming to
00:27:45
be Edgar Thomas Hill how did they get
00:27:48
lony I was raised by Loni oh
00:27:53
okay that's quite a specific name and a
00:27:57
specific spe ific thing to
00:27:59
say this could indicate that either he
00:28:03
was trying to fake mental illness or it
00:28:07
actually was a symptom of his psychosis
00:28:12
so it is likely that some of the bizarre
00:28:14
things that he said was a symptom of his
00:28:18
[Music]
00:28:20
schizophrenia words soon spread around
00:28:23
the community about Kevin's body being
00:28:26
discovered in Mark's basement
00:28:29
I found out that Mark was involved in
00:28:31
Kevin's death a couple days after it
00:28:34
happened when it all hit the
00:28:36
news at the time I thought maybe it was
00:28:39
a fetish gone wrong that something had
00:28:41
happened on accident I never never
00:28:43
expected Mark to hurt Kevin on
00:28:46
purpose many people in the community
00:28:48
thought maybe this was a roleplaying
00:28:50
situation that had just gone bad no one
00:28:53
ever thought that this was an actual
00:28:56
murder
00:29:02
Mark was taken in for questioning where
00:29:05
he continued to insist that he wasn't
00:29:07
Mark
00:29:09
latony
00:29:11
no my
00:29:13
name is at Thomas Hill I went I am a
00:29:19
Thomas of
00:29:21
Wales and I reached out to the people in
00:29:27
Great Britain
00:29:29
to find out if there are anymore okay
00:29:32
because as I have
00:29:35
looked amongst my blood
00:29:40
relatives I don't think there are any
00:29:45
other Thomas of Wales of the Thomas of
00:29:48
Wales
00:29:49
Clan left except for
00:29:52
[Music]
00:29:54
me there's signs then that Mark seems to
00:29:58
be struggling with his connection with
00:30:01
reality and he can't tell what's real
00:30:04
and what's not but from his point of
00:30:07
view he is absolutely fine there's
00:30:10
nothing wrong with him but there's
00:30:13
something wrong with the people around
00:30:17
him Mark vonsky told the police officers
00:30:22
that Kevin Bacon had asked him to kill
00:30:25
him he said it was part of the sexual
00:30:28
fantasy that Kevin Bacon had wanted to
00:30:30
live out and Mark told police that he
00:30:34
fulfilled that and that he was going to
00:30:36
make Kevin
00:30:41
disappear as the investigation
00:30:44
progressed the true depravity of the
00:30:46
murder
00:30:48
emerged when they arrived at the house
00:30:52
there was sexual intercourse between
00:30:54
Kevin and Mark and then Mark LED Kevin
00:30:58
downstairs into the basement he was
00:31:01
still wearing the
00:31:04
blindfold and he stabbed Kevin in the
00:31:07
back of the neck and then slit Kevin's
00:31:11
[Music]
00:31:14
throat and then he used a rope and tied
00:31:17
it around Kevin's ankles and he had some
00:31:21
kind of poliy
00:31:23
system and he suspended Kevin hanging
00:31:26
him upside down
00:31:31
to kill Kevin and slit his
00:31:36
throat and then get his body up and Tied
00:31:40
by his
00:31:41
ankles would have taken a lot of effort
00:31:44
so this shows the conviction that he
00:31:47
used when he did
00:31:49
[Music]
00:31:53
this after he suspended Kevin and he was
00:31:57
hanging upside down
00:31:58
Mark then took that knife and mutilated
00:32:01
Kevin's body and he removed his
00:32:07
testicles this is really quite gruesome
00:32:10
knowing the
00:32:12
absolutely brutal nature of what he did
00:32:16
to Kevin's body
00:32:19
[Music]
00:32:25
[Music]
00:32:32
Mark was questioned about cannibalizing
00:32:35
Kevin's
00:32:37
testicles where did you do that I mean
00:32:39
on the kitchen stove um FR P it would do
00:32:43
with the griddle I mean I I eat Rocky
00:32:46
Mountain leg there's anyway sure um I
00:32:49
have a a a c of them that I bought um
00:32:54
and so it's really very simple you some
00:32:58
you Dr to with some worship SAU and then
00:33:04
once there once they're done you
00:33:09
[Music]
00:33:11
just I believe that Mark thought he was
00:33:15
going to gain some sort of strength from
00:33:19
eating parts of
00:33:23
Kevin on December 30th
00:33:26
2019 50-year-old Mark latony was charged
00:33:30
with the murder of 25-year-old Kevin
00:33:34
Bacon I was shocked and there were lots
00:33:37
of Tears lots of
00:33:39
crying I couldn't believe it absolutely
00:33:42
couldn't believe that he would ever do
00:33:43
something like that he was never
00:33:46
aggressive he never hurt anything when
00:33:48
we were together I didn't think he was
00:33:50
capable of hurting anybody on
00:33:54
purpose I I knew he would never have
00:33:56
done it if he was in the right FR frame
00:33:58
of mind
00:34:02
mentally this is the father of her
00:34:05
children and he was part of that family
00:34:09
system and he's very very ill he has
00:34:13
done some heinous
00:34:16
crimes she's not forgiving that nor is
00:34:19
she forgetting that but she's coming
00:34:22
from a place of kindness and
00:34:25
understanding
00:34:29
Emily sat down with her children and
00:34:32
broke the news to them about what their
00:34:34
father had
00:34:35
done I was 15 years old when I found out
00:34:40
I was just kind of
00:34:43
astonished like it was surprising I
00:34:45
didn't know that he could do something
00:34:47
like
00:34:49
that I was kind of worried about what
00:34:52
other people might think because of our
00:34:55
relation the fact that my dad had killed
00:34:59
Kevin and eight parts of him is just
00:35:03
uncomfortable he's not the person that I
00:35:06
knew is not something that I ever
00:35:09
thought would
00:35:13
happen this is a photo of Mark at
00:35:16
Christmas time with her oldest child
00:35:19
Christmas after what happened with Kevin
00:35:22
was
00:35:24
different I had people sending messages
00:35:28
telling me that I had no right to
00:35:29
celebrate Christmas and be happy with my
00:35:31
kids because of what happened with Kevin
00:35:34
and even though we had nothing to do
00:35:36
with it it still affected Christmas for
00:35:39
[Music]
00:35:42
us it would be nearly 3 years before
00:35:45
lunsky was deemed mentally competent to
00:35:47
stand trial for the murder of Kevin
00:35:49
[Music]
00:35:51
Bacon the date was set for October 18th
00:35:55
at shasi County Circuit Court
00:36:00
it came by a surprise to everyone that
00:36:02
just weeks before the trial was to begin
00:36:05
that Mark latony pleaded guilty what we
00:36:09
don't know is what led him to make that
00:36:11
decision was he influenced by someone
00:36:14
did he have remorse did he wake up one
00:36:17
day feeling
00:36:19
guilty it makes me really sad that Mark
00:36:23
just pleaded guilty it makes me sad that
00:36:25
his mental capacity is not enough that
00:36:28
he is willing
00:36:29
to I don't know it's it makes me sad
00:36:32
that he is not mentally fit and even
00:36:36
though he was deemed mentally sound to
00:36:39
stand trial he still has a lot of ideas
00:36:42
that people are out to get him and he
00:36:44
doesn't believe anything's wrong with
00:36:45
him and he's so he didn't want that used
00:36:47
in court he didn't want his mental
00:36:49
status talked about at all in court and
00:36:51
it makes me sad that he's so far
00:36:55
diminished mentally that he just is
00:36:57
isn't willing to save himself or help
00:36:59
himself at
00:37:04
[Music]
00:37:06
all on December 15th
00:37:09
2022 Mark was sentenced to life in
00:37:12
prison without the possibility of parole
00:37:15
for the murder of Kevin Bacon and an
00:37:18
additional 11 to 120 months for
00:37:21
mutilating Kevin's body I think that the
00:37:24
sentence is fair because I don't believe
00:37:26
he would be safe to be in society
00:37:29
anymore if he's capable of doing what he
00:37:31
did to Kevin he's capable of doing
00:37:37
more I don't know if we will ever really
00:37:39
know if Mark has remorse for Kevin's
00:37:43
murder considering he did plead guilty
00:37:45
his defense attorney had said that he
00:37:49
made this decision and he regretted the
00:37:52
actions of what happened to Kevin Bacon
00:37:55
but Mark latoni himself has never said
00:37:58
that he had any remorse for what he had
00:38:00
done to
00:38:03
Kevin the impact of Mark's actions on
00:38:06
his family has been
00:38:09
profound it has such a deep
00:38:12
psychological
00:38:13
impact they suffer shame embarrassment
00:38:17
regret it's hard for them to face people
00:38:21
they often attacked themselves because
00:38:23
people assume that they may have known
00:38:25
things so to move on with life knowing
00:38:29
that your loved one did something so
00:38:30
horrific causes a huge amount of
00:38:35
damage being the ex-wife of Mark latony
00:38:38
is something that will affect me as long
00:38:40
as I carry the last name my kids wanted
00:38:44
me to have the same last name as them so
00:38:45
I kept it after I get divorced and now
00:38:48
that last name is
00:38:55
there I have cried lots of Tears over it
00:38:59
and now it's something that is far
00:39:02
enough in the past that it doesn't make
00:39:04
me cry when I talk about it
00:39:08
anymore the man who committed the crime
00:39:11
is not my
00:39:12
dad my dad was loving and never raised
00:39:18
his voice at me or my siblings and never
00:39:21
vient there was never a time where I
00:39:23
felt scared or anything and I couldn't
00:39:26
imagine my dad doing something like that
00:39:30
I love the person that he was not the
00:39:32
man who's in prison
00:39:34
[Music]
00:39:36
now as a child with a parent like that I
00:39:40
think it is a
00:39:41
lifelong psychological and emotional
00:39:44
processing of coming to terms with that
00:39:47
to do so is to see it as he's not well
00:39:51
he has a mental illness and I feel sorry
00:39:55
for him but also she can't get past you
00:39:58
know what he did to someone else the
00:40:00
conditions
00:40:02
of Eliza has tried her best to move on
00:40:06
with her life without her
00:40:08
father I haven't spoken with my dad
00:40:11
since he's been in prison and I probably
00:40:14
won't have any contact with him because
00:40:15
he's not the same person
00:40:19
[Music]
00:40:22
anymore Mark was once a person who had a
00:40:26
great job he he had a great family he
00:40:28
had people he loved he worked hard and
00:40:32
his mental illness caused him to spiral
00:40:35
down into behavior that he never would
00:40:38
have been
00:40:39
capable of in the
00:40:43
past I think the turning point was him
00:40:46
just not being treated for his mental
00:40:48
illness I think that he went so far down
00:40:53
into his mental illness and his
00:40:54
fantasies that there was no coming back
00:40:56
from it
00:40:59
nobody could make him get
00:41:03
help whatever the reasons behind the
00:41:05
murder Kevin Bacon's life was
00:41:08
inexplicably cut
00:41:10
short Kevin Bacon's family will never be
00:41:13
at peace for what happened to Kevin on
00:41:16
Christmas Eve it was just something that
00:41:18
will haunt them for the rest of their
00:41:20
lives especially around Christmas which
00:41:22
had been such a happy time for this
00:41:24
family now all of their memories of
00:41:27
Christmas are going to haunt them
00:41:29
thinking about what happened to
00:41:35
Kevin my dad was mentally ill him
00:41:39
killing Kevin was part of his mental
00:41:41
illness and it's incredibly sad that he
00:41:45
got to that point and I sympathize with
00:41:48
Kevin's family because it should not
00:41:49
have
00:41:54
happened my heartbreaks for Kevin and
00:41:56
his family I can't imagine losing a son
00:41:59
in such a violent brutal way as he
00:42:02
did I have a son and so I can't imagine
00:42:05
what his mother is feeling I want to say
00:42:08
I'm really sorry to the bacon family I
00:42:10
can't imagine anything would have
00:42:11
happened like
00:42:13
[Music]
00:42:16
this when I hear Mark's name my
00:42:18
immediate thought is such a wasted
00:42:21
life such a heartbreaking situation for
00:42:25
everybody involved
00:42:36
