Georgia Rudolph has been haunted by
00:00:21
dreams and memories of a young girl who
00:00:23
lived at the turn of the century our
00:00:25
girl Georgia never knew in a place she
00:00:27
never visited amazingly her descriptions
00:00:30
of the girl's life appear to be
00:00:32
corroborated by facts II she had no
00:00:34
possible way of knowing who Georgia's
00:00:36
experiences be evidence of reincarnation
00:00:39
Rickey police officer Steve Sandra was
00:00:42
found shot to death in the station house
00:00:44
where he worked some believe he stumbled
00:00:46
on a case of small-town corruption and
00:00:48
was murdered we will also profile a case
00:00:52
of a man called thumper an outlaw biker
00:00:55
who travels across the country setting
00:00:56
up illegal drug laboratories to
00:00:58
manufacture highly addictive

00:01:53
reincarnation to our heirs a void has an
00:01:57
eerie rate the dictionary definition
00:02:00
rebirth of the soul in a new body seems
00:02:03
of pale feet words that describe such an
00:02:05
extraordinary concept much of the world
00:02:08
believes absolutely in reincarnation but
00:02:11
for people who don't the onset of dreams
00:02:13
and memories that cannot be explained is
00:02:15
often very upsetting that was the case
00:02:18
for a woman we found named Georgia root
00:02:20
Oh
00:02:27
for 33 years George's mind has conjured
00:02:30
up visions of a mysterious young girl in
00:02:33
one of the most vivid the girl is with
00:02:35
an older woman perhaps her grandmother
00:02:38
in all of George's visions neither the
00:02:40
time nor the place is familiar
00:02:45
there's a lot of sensation I feel the
00:02:50
cold
00:02:50
I feel the night
00:02:56
horses I smell the leather I can feel
00:03:01
the girl but it feels like myself
00:03:05
climbing on this carriage and going down
00:03:10
the road and I can hear the sound of
00:03:13
horses hoofs
00:03:15
I can feel the movement of the carriage

giorgia Rudolph is a 41 year old
00:03:30
registered nurse living in Macon Georgia
00:03:33
since childhood she has been beset by
00:03:35
recurring mental images sometimes he
00:03:38
appears dreams more often his memories
00:03:41
of events she has never experienced they
00:03:45
never seem to be a common denominator of
00:03:48
what would trigger off the memories I
00:03:51
would be sitting playing I would be
00:03:54
watching TV and just there would be a
00:03:57
memory as a child I don't think there
00:04:02
was a month that went by that I didn't
00:04:05
have by other memories or dreams Georgia
00:04:12
Rudolph was born in Columbus Ohio at the
00:04:15
age of three she was placed in a series
00:04:17
of foster homes when she was five
00:04:19
Georgia was adopted and the memories
00:04:21
began
00:04:23
[Music]
00:04:28
as a little girl I was different
00:04:32
east of drum the picture of this gun and
00:04:36
I would just do stacks after stacks
00:04:40
after stacks of this picture
00:04:44
I also drawn a picture of the house
00:04:48
since I was fine and then the house
00:04:51
would go with the curl and if I didn't
00:04:56
get her right
00:04:57
I would erase her or tear it up and
00:05:00
start all over then I knew exactly how
00:05:03
this girl was supposed to look my whole
00:05:10
childhood I thought I was crazy because
00:05:13
the drawings were of the girl that I
00:05:16
would dream about and when I remember
00:05:19
her
00:05:20
it's always the drawing the face
00:05:24
I have always known that place
00:05:33
I've seen her to different ages one is a
00:05:36
young one 18 19 years old and as a young
00:05:44
girl probably eight nine
00:05:52
[Music]
00:05:56
as Georgia grew older her impressions of
00:05:59
the past began to accumulate often they
00:06:05
were no more than the flash of an image
00:06:07
but curiously all the images seemed to
00:06:10
come from an earlier time a time around
00:06:13
the turn of the century there were new
00:06:16
automobiles or airplanes but there were
00:06:19
repeated images of old fashioned Stern
00:06:22
wheel which Georgia in her lifetime had
00:06:24
ever seen
00:06:28
it's not like a childhood memory it
00:06:32
feels different
00:06:35
it's like taking a picture from my mind
00:06:39
projecting it on a screen and just
00:06:44
replaying it over
00:06:49
[Music]
00:06:58
a river seemed to play a large part in
00:07:00
George's dreams
00:07:02
another constant was a young man dressed
00:07:04
in a brown suit and wearing a derby hat
00:07:09
sometimes he was alone sometimes he was
00:07:12
with the girl and always it was
00:07:14
recurring image of a horse-drawn
00:07:16
carriage on a cold winter night
00:07:20
I kept feeling that
00:07:23
of pre-adoption that nobody would tell
00:07:26
me about when I found my biological
00:07:30
parents I found that the memories had
00:07:32
nothing to do with my life before I was
00:07:36
adopted when Georgia first contacted me
00:07:40
I felt it might be something like an
00:07:42
early trial matic childhood memory that
00:07:44
she was trying to remember or
00:07:46
re-experience or possibly could be an
00:07:49
aspect of a multiple personality where
00:07:51
she was imagining herself or
00:07:54
experiencing herself to be someone
00:07:55
different which sometimes happens in
00:07:57
these cases other thing that the
00:08:00
reincarnation was probably the last
00:08:02
thing in my mind about what had happened
00:08:03
to her so we're gonna go through a
00:08:07
procedure this evening that dr. Douglas
00:08:09
Smith is deputy director of a mental
00:08:11
health center in Macon Georgia in 1984
00:08:14
he began regressive hypnosis therapy
00:08:16
with Georgia Rudolph it is a type of
00:08:19
analysis that lets the patient go back
00:08:20
in time under hypnosis but still
00:08:22
remember everything she says very slowly
00:08:25
last December we asked Georgia to once
00:08:28
again undergo hypnosis with dr. Smith
00:08:30
relaxed entities try to allow all the
00:08:34
tension to leave your body during the
00:08:36
first session of hypnosis he asked me a
00:08:39
question and referred to me as Georgia I
00:08:44
remember very vividly saying I don't
00:08:48
know who you're talking to
00:08:51
and he said well if this is in Georgia
00:08:55
then who is it and I remember saying my
00:09:01
name is Sandra Jean Jenkins and what
00:09:07
year were you born Sandra 1895
00:09:11
do you have a boyfriend yes
00:09:15
Georgia seems to me a very down-to-earth
00:09:17
person she doesn't go around reading a
00:09:20
lot of psychic magazines and esoterica
00:09:23
material so I think that she's a very
00:09:26
stable individual and it surprised me
00:09:29
when she came out with the amount of
00:09:30
emotion and effect and details that she
00:09:32
did under hypnosis the sensation that I
00:09:36
had when I gave her name her age and
00:09:42
said I was born in 1895 is one that I
00:09:47
will never forget because I felt like my
00:09:51
head was going to come off of my body it
00:09:55
hurt so bad
00:09:57
look down at yourself and tell me what
00:10:00
you look like
00:10:02
brown hair Georgia came to believe that
00:10:10
the things she had wrong so many times
00:10:12
as a child was a face of Sandra Jean
00:10:15
Jenkins who was also the girl in her
00:10:17
memories and dreams
00:10:23
further therapy sessions began to give
00:10:26
the tailor [ __ ] Georgia could now
00:10:28
clearly see Sandra Jean on a
00:10:30
sternwheeler which apparently belonged
00:10:31
to her family
00:10:33
one of the men on the boat was the young
00:10:35
man in the Derby hat whom she'd seen so
00:10:37
often his name is Tommy Hicks he and
00:10:41
Sandra Jean were sweethearts the
00:10:43
sessions also revealed that the two of
00:10:45
them were about to be married when this
00:10:48
came out about Sandra G not only that I
00:10:57
feel I was crazy it scared me to death
00:11:02
it went against everything that I have
00:11:06
ever been taught as far as religion goes
00:11:10
she is very sincere in her belief that
00:11:13
she actually subjectively experienced
00:11:16
all the things that she has experienced
00:11:18
in that past life that she described
00:11:20
she's not faking or pretending it is a
00:11:23
real experience for her
00:11:29
or the images that had haunted Georgia
00:11:31
Rudolph for more than 30 years
00:11:33
evidence of reincarnation when we return
00:11:37
Georgia travels 500 miles from home is
00:11:40
unexplainable coincidences between her
00:11:42
dreams Lightman Sandra Jean Jenkins

[Music]
00:11:50
for more than 30 years
00:11:52
Georgia Rudolph was plagued by
00:11:53
mystifying impressions of a past she
00:11:55
knew nothing about she was afraid to
00:11:57
admit the possibility that she might be
00:11:59
the reincarnation of a girl named Sandra
00:12:01
Jean Jenkins who lived at the turn of
00:12:03
the century under hypnosis Georgia had
00:12:06
repeatedly mentioned the word Marietta
00:12:08
it became clear to Georgia that Marietta
00:12:11
was a place a place that might reveal a
00:12:14
connection between her dreams and the
00:12:16
life of Sandra Jean Jenkins Marietta
00:12:21
Ohio was a city of 35,000 located at the
00:12:24
confluence of the Ohio and Muskegon
00:12:26
rivers in assay day at the turn of the
00:12:29
century it was a major river port
00:12:32
because Georgia's dreams are centered on
00:12:34
a river and river boats she went to
00:12:36
marry it in 1985 hoping to find a record
00:12:40
of the people and places so vividly
00:12:42
etched in her memory Georgia had
00:12:47
arranged to meet with a reporter named
00:12:48
Ted Bauer he was a lifelong resident of
00:12:51
the city and for 32 years had worked for
00:12:53
the local newspaper when George arrived
00:12:57
in Marietta Ike said I'll take you
00:12:59
around and show you some of the places
00:13:01
you talked about over the phone and she
00:13:04
says no I'll show you where to go I
00:13:07
couldn't believe her knowledge of
00:13:10
Marietta she knew as much or more than
00:13:13
some of the old-timers knew about the
00:13:15
town Ted Barr was amazed when Georgia
00:13:21
stopped in front of an insurance company
00:13:23
and suddenly began describing the
00:13:24
interior of an ice-cream parlor which
00:13:26
had been there at the turn of the
00:13:27
century incredibly the dick core she
00:13:31
remembered had been completely changed
00:13:33
in 1937 11 years before Georgia was born
00:13:38
it was like red and white and it was
00:13:41
like red white red white
00:13:43
and it was tile but it wasn't like the
00:13:46
tile we see today she described the
00:13:48
interior almost perfectly I checked this
00:13:52
with the son of the man he would run it
00:13:54
for years in the way it seems crazy but
00:13:57
what do you do she was accurate about
00:14:00
her descriptions
00:14:01
I was just baffled Ted Bauer's curiosity
00:14:07
was aroused he began to investigate on
00:14:10
his own to see if the things George's
00:14:11
seem to remember could somehow have been
00:14:13
available to her in local records I did
00:14:18
a lot of research I talked to family
00:14:21
members to former store owners and I
00:14:25
checked her own newspaper file I've
00:14:29
thought about it many times and it's
00:14:31
possible that she could have done some
00:14:34
research and or had it done for but I
00:14:36
don't know how that could have been done
00:14:38
that would have been a tremendous job I
00:14:41
can't buy the reincarnation bit but she
00:14:44
has some kind of power some way of
00:14:47
knowing what happened in the past I
00:14:50
don't know what the power would be but
00:14:53
she hasn't when I began to understand
00:14:57
that I was being 100% correct
00:15:04
there was a fright but there was an
00:15:07
excitement that was starting to build in
00:15:09
me it was like this is really real I
00:15:15
really was this girl
00:15:19
and when I started finding things that
00:15:22
were in my memory
00:15:25
it was like having the middle way
00:15:30
and going back home
00:15:36
despite her uncanny recollections
00:15:38
Georgia could find no record of a Sandra
00:15:40
Jean Jenkins of Marietta she next
00:15:44
visited a small farming community
00:15:45
Newport Ohio five miles to the north
00:15:48
here - she seemed distinctively to know
00:15:50
her way around the first thing I saw
00:15:55
when entering Newport was a big grey
00:15:58
house
00:15:59
it's like chills through my body it was
00:16:05
like this is my house this is where I
00:16:09
lived I could see a room I knew that
00:16:16
this had been her bedroom
00:16:19
this was the house that Sandra had lived
00:16:24
him
00:16:35
[Music]
00:16:36
[Applause]
00:16:37
[Music]
00:16:41
throughout George's life a single dream
00:16:44
had always stood out more perplexing and
00:16:46
haunting than all the others in its
00:16:48
Sandra Jean as a young girl stands alone
00:16:51
on the steps of the church in the Train
00:16:55
I know she has to walk exactly two
00:16:58
blocks and she's standing in front of a
00:17:02
cemetery
00:17:05
and there's a path that goes off to the
00:17:08
right and it curves and twists in
00:17:10
different directions and then the path
00:17:13
eventually straightens out
00:17:17
and when she gets to the point where it
00:17:20
straightens out she's on the side of a
00:17:22
hill looking down on a grave which I
00:17:27
know to be her grandmother's grave but
00:17:30
I'm never able to get the name off of
00:17:32
the headstone
00:17:34
because it's that point that I wake up
00:17:38
but I have had this dream two or three
00:17:41
hundred times and I always wake up in
00:17:44
the same price in Newport Georgia found
00:17:55
the church from her dream perhaps now
00:17:58
she could discover the identity of
00:17:59
Sandra jeans grandmother if I owned me
00:18:06
everything I found frighten me more
00:18:10
because I still didn't want to believe
00:18:13
that this was reincarnation but I walked
00:18:22
the two blocks that I knew I had to walk
00:18:24
in my dream and I found myself in the
00:18:27
cemetery and I started walking this path
00:18:32
as I walked it it began to doubt on me
00:18:37
this is the path of my dreams
00:18:40
I can remember my heart
00:18:45
[Music]
00:18:48
and the feeling in my body I mean it was
00:18:51
just total excitement because I knew
00:18:55
when I reached the end of that
00:18:58
I was gonna be standing over the grave
00:19:00
but I wasn't coming back
00:19:01
[Applause]
00:19:03
Oh
00:19:05
and when I stopped were the Drava stops
00:19:08
I was looking down on the grave that I
00:19:13
knew to be my grandmother's and it said
00:19:18
Mary Bevan green and I finally gotten me
00:19:32
the gravestone provided the missing link
00:19:35
to the house Georgia had seen earlier
00:19:38
at the turn of a century this house had
00:19:40
been the home of the green family
00:19:43
moreover the Greens have owned a fleet
00:19:45
of stern heaters which operated up and
00:19:47
down the Ohio River now the story of
00:19:51
Sandra Jean Jenkins and Tommy Hicks came
00:19:53
into sharper focus I want you to allow
00:19:57
yourself to go back a little bit further
00:19:59
now and feel safe and secure and talking
00:20:02
to me I'm going to ask you a question
00:20:05
what happened to Tom where are you
00:20:18
what's happened this tommy-gun yes under
00:20:28
hypnosis Georgia recalled it in 1914
00:20:30
just days before Sandra Jean and Tommy
00:20:33
were to be married he was swept
00:20:34
overboard in a storm on the Ohio River
00:20:37
his body was never found
00:20:39
Sandra Jean Jenkins was left alone and
00:20:42
her family's dismay pregnant with Tommy
00:20:45
Hicks's child
00:20:46
[Applause]
00:21:07
what is it she will never forgive you
00:21:08
for
00:21:10
[Music]
00:21:28
I want you to move forward in time you
00:21:33
are now at the river and I want you to
00:21:35
describe to me what you did then take me
00:21:39
lock it up
00:21:41
[Music]
00:21:44
i slided
00:21:58
[Music]
00:22:02
where are you buried they put me up on
00:22:06
the hill with plea Georgia is convinced
00:22:14
that because Sandra Jean took her own
00:22:15
life she was buried in an unmarked grave
00:22:17
just a few feet away from Mary Bevan
00:22:20
Green Georgia had said under hypnosis
00:22:23
that from Sandra genes grave you could
00:22:25
see an angel with one arm up raised when
00:22:28
she looks south from Mary Greene's grave
00:22:30

00:22:38
George's discoveries in Ohio do seem
00:22:40
convincing but is there any real proof
00:22:43
the Sandra Jean Jenkins or Tommy Hicks
00:22:45
ever existed birth and death records
00:22:48
were a haphazard affair around the turn
00:22:50
of the century and so far neither their
00:22:53
exact names have been found but there
00:22:55
does seem to be a record of Tommy's
00:22:57
parents when I was under hypnosis I had
00:23:01
said that Tommy's parents names were Tom
00:23:04
and Jenny Hicks the only proof that I
00:23:07
have that Tommy existed was that in 1906
00:23:13
there is a farm registered to Tom and
00:23:16
Jenny Hicks in Newport Ohio
00:23:21
giorgia also located the green family's
00:23:23
nearest living relatives who provided
00:23:25
her with what Georgia believes is
00:23:27
evidence as Sandra Jean Jenkins actually
00:23:30
existed they brought out a picture taken
00:23:35
in 1908
00:23:38
as a family reunion picture and the girl
00:23:44
that I call Sandra that I have drawn my
00:23:48
entire life is standing in that picture
00:23:54
it's all family but no one knows who
00:23:58
this girl is there was a statement made
00:24:04
by a member of the family
00:24:08
I don't know this girl's name but I know
00:24:11
she drowned out back of the house
00:24:16
in the family photograph the girl from
00:24:19
Georgia's dreams seemed to be standing
00:24:20
slightly apart from those around her the
00:24:24
photograph is accompanied by a complete
00:24:26
roster of names every person has
00:24:29
identified except the girl Georgia
00:24:31
recognized as Sandra Jean

00:24:36
almost every culture at one time or
00:24:39
another has had a belief in
00:24:40
reincarnation sometimes I think in fact
00:24:43
that it's a metaphor for a man's anger
00:24:45
over the brevity of life in terms of
00:24:49
whether reincarnation is a real fact or
00:24:52
not as a scientist I don't know I won't
00:24:56
prove I'm a doubter but as a human being
00:25:00
I would love to have it be the truth I
00:25:03
believe that that reincarnation is real
00:25:09
but I'm not sure what reincarnation is I
00:25:13
know there's something to it I have had
00:25:19
an experience
00:25:21
there are a lot of people don't get to
00:25:24
have my logic oftentimes will tell me no
00:25:32
this isn't real
00:25:35
got my heart
00:25:37
Paris baby yes it is
00:25:43
could the saga of Sandra Jean Jenkins
00:25:45
simply be the product of an overactive
00:25:47
imagination could it in fact be a
00:25:50
reincarnation experience the legitimate
00:25:54
memory of a life Georgia Rudolph lived
00:25:56
at the turn of the century or could it
00:25:59
be something else something we can
00:26:01
either define or understand
00:26:05
[Music]
00:26:14
when we return the tragic story of Steve
00:26:17
sound a Ricky police officer who some
00:26:19
believe may have been killed because he
00:26:21
knew too much about corruption in a
00:26:23
small New Mexico town
00:26:25
[Music]
00:26:34
everybody who knows Steve soundings that
00:26:36
he was born to be a cop his father was a
00:26:39
career law enforcement officer and even
00:26:42
as a child Steve planned on following in
00:26:44
his father's footsteps because I was a
00:26:47
policeman Stevie grew up seeing a
00:26:50
uniform he liked it do you used to wear
00:26:52
my helmet wear my motorcycle boots he'd
00:26:56
go around the house all day dressed up
00:26:57
like a cop Steve wanted to be a police
00:27:01
officer and nothing was going to do
00:27:04
until he did it in March of 1988 when he
00:27:09
was 21 years old
00:27:11
Steve announced to his family that he
00:27:12
had been accepted as a member of the
00:27:14
mountain air and New Mexico Police
00:27:16
Department but in the early evening of
00:27:20
May 7th 1988 while Steve was working
00:27:23
alone in the police station
00:27:24
his dream came to a violent and still
00:27:27
unexplained them
00:27:29
I can't recall the exact wording by the
00:27:32
individual that notified us but when we
00:27:34
arrived he mentioned something about
00:27:36
Steve upstairs a gun and blood and he
00:27:39
didn't know if it was a joke or real or
00:27:41
what
00:27:45
we had our weapons drawn we weren't sure
00:27:47
what we were walking into and I went to
00:27:50
Steve and I remember saying to him hang
00:27:53
on Steve
00:27:54
hang on you know rolling gear and asked
00:27:56
him what had happened to request he was
00:27:59
unresponsive he was breathing but he'd
00:28:02
ever did say anything we immediately
00:28:08
called emergency services aimed at his
00:28:10
personnel and they immediately started
00:28:13
their life-saving operation to try and
00:28:15
save the officers life he was still
00:28:17
alive at that time they weren't across
00:28:21
this of kind of started an IV and
00:28:23
shortly thereafter officer Sandlin
00:28:25
expired and he was pronounced dead by
00:28:27
the doctor here to see
00:28:32
Steve Santa had only been on the force 8
00:28:34
weeks his gun was found by his side
00:28:37
authorities believe that the fatal
00:28:39
bullet may have been fired from his own
00:28:41
weapon the cause of death was at first
00:28:43
thought to be accidental for a suicide
00:28:45
but some disagree we all know those of
00:28:51
us who knew Steve know that there is no
00:28:55
way that it it could have been a suicide
00:28:58
or even an accidental shooting we
00:29:02
believe Steve was murdered and we
00:29:03
believe there was a conspiracy to do so
00:29:06
I think someone killed Steve Sandlin
00:29:10
intentionally I say that because there's
00:29:13
no evidence that was suicide there's no
00:29:15
evidence it was accidental and there's
00:29:17
very strong persuasive evidence that he
00:29:20
was murdered and that his murder was
00:29:22
planned the death of Steve Sam has
00:29:26
touched off a controversy that has
00:29:28
reached me out his grieving family today
00:29:31
Twyla System Attorney General has
00:29:32
resigned over this case another James
00:29:34
guarantee no has been fired bring
00:29:37
perhaps the most disturbing allegation
00:29:39
are those who believe that not only was
00:29:40
Steve murdered that his killer's
00:29:42
identity has been deliberately covered
00:29:44
up by law enforcement officials
00:29:49
Maupin layer is an isolated community
00:29:51
located 80 miles southeast of
00:29:53
Albuquerque despite the fact that the
00:29:55
area is known to be a center for the
00:29:57
cultivation of marijuana
00:29:58
the tiles Police Department consisted of
00:30:01
only four men most Eve salmon began
00:30:05
working for the police department he was
00:30:07
enthusiastic about his new job and often
00:30:09
worked during his off hours Stevie
00:30:12
really enjoyed it
00:30:13
the job at first they laugh and talk
00:30:16
about it everything that he did however
00:30:18
toward the last his attitude started
00:30:21
changing I don't know exactly what the
00:30:23
change was
00:30:23
Steve just started saying that things
00:30:25
would like he thought they would be
00:30:27
something was wrong
00:30:31
they afternoon of Steve's death May 7th
00:30:34
it returned to the empty police station
00:30:36
after disagreement with chief Carson
00:30:38
Ferguson traffic tickets he had written
00:30:41
what I told Steve was Steve slow down
00:30:44
something you can't catch everybody
00:30:46
that's not your role we don't want you
00:30:49
to burn out we don't want you working 16
00:30:50
or 18 hours a day just take it easy and
00:30:53
he was he seemed a little down about
00:30:57
that he wasn't chewed out it was just a
00:30:58
conversation by 7:00 o'clock
00:31:02
Steve was alone at the station and spoke
00:31:04
with his girlfriend Michel the nearby
00:31:06
Bosque Farms New Mexico we were making
00:31:09
plans for the next day and he said that
00:31:11
chief Carson yelled at him and told him
00:31:13
to go back into the station so he was
00:31:15
kind of mad about that and he said if
00:31:16
they wanted to be a security guard that
00:31:18
he would sit up in the station be a
00:31:20
security guard and I was talking to him
00:31:23
I heard the old lady's voice come in and
00:31:26
he muffled the phone and I couldn't hear
00:31:28
what it was said but it sounded like he
00:31:30
was getting loud and like she was
00:31:32
yelling at him and he said it was no big
00:31:35
deal to go
00:31:38
[Applause]
00:31:41
approximately 45 minutes later at 7:45
00:31:44
chief Cox received word that Steve had
00:31:46
been shot I saw no evidence of any
00:31:50
confrontation no other shots fired
00:31:52
nothing and from an average person's
00:31:56
point of view it was apparently a
00:31:58
suicide there is no way Steve loved life
00:32:04
he was happy he was doing what he always
00:32:07
wanted to do that was not that was not
00:32:10
Steve chief Carson believes that if
00:32:13
Steve's death wasn't a suicide
00:32:15
then it was accidental there was
00:32:18
information that came to us that he was
00:32:20
prone to play with his gun I can see the
00:32:22
possibility that perhaps he was playing
00:32:25
with his gun and I think that that
00:32:27
probably is the strongest possibility in
00:32:31
Steve Sandler's death the possibility of
00:32:34
going off is tremendous maybe a few
00:32:37
years ago Steve would have played with
00:32:39
the weapon but I don't believe he would
00:32:42
have played with it and in this
00:32:44
particular stage of his life the results
00:32:50
of Steve's autopsy were inconclusive
00:32:51
some believe that the gun may have been
00:32:54
as much as two feet away from Steve's
00:32:56
head when it was fired an unusual
00:32:58
distance for a self-inflicted wound
00:33:00
secondly there are only insignificant
00:33:02
traces of gunpowder found out Steve's
00:33:04
hand an unusually small amount if Steve
00:33:07
had fired the fatal shot a spike test
00:33:09
information the Attorney General's
00:33:12
Office refused to rule out suicide
00:33:14
dissatisfied Steve's family conducted
00:33:17
their own investigation
00:33:19
how'd field stephen was murdered a field
00:33:22
he was murdered because he knew too much
00:33:24
about something Steve's death was a
00:33:27
homicide
00:33:29
I think they killed him to keep him
00:33:32
quiet of something he may have known
00:33:34
that was going on down in Mountaineer
00:33:42
the family's investigation uncovered one
00:33:44
possible motive for Steve's murder
00:33:46
[Music]
00:33:47
after only a few weeks of active duty
00:33:49
Steven begun to patrol alone
00:33:52
and we sometimes wait outside local bars
00:33:54
in order to apprehend drunk drivers
00:33:59
sir we need to see your driver's license
00:34:02
please so you can have to step out of
00:34:04
the car put your left hand outside and
00:34:06
open the door from the outside come out
00:34:09
shut the door on the night of April 11
00:34:12
just one month before his death Steve
00:34:15
arrested a local resident who made an
00:34:17
important discovery
00:34:22
this yours
00:34:24
sir I'm placing you under arrest with
00:34:26
this marijuana put your hands upon the
00:34:27
car on the car
00:34:29
spread your legs the following day a
00:34:32
warrant was obtained man's home was
00:34:35
searched 54 pounds of marijuana was
00:34:38
discovered with a street value of close
00:34:40
to $100,000
00:34:43
[Music]
00:34:46
within days of the arrest Steve received
00:34:49
death threats alarmed he refused to
00:34:52
sleep at his home
00:34:53
[Music]
00:34:59
there were a number of death threats I
00:35:01
didn't dismiss them however it wasn't
00:35:04
possible to trace these threats
00:35:06
mysterious phone calls these kind of
00:35:08
things we were all familiar with these
00:35:10
type of threats especially after we
00:35:12
started arresting drug dealers and so
00:35:14
forth they became more amplified during
00:35:19
this time the New Mexico Attorney
00:35:21
General's Office was investigating
00:35:23
reports that the mountain air police had
00:35:24
carelessly handled evidence Steve had
00:35:27
been questioned by investigators the day
00:35:29
before his death the last time I spoke
00:35:31
to Stephen Stephen indicated that it was
00:35:34
something going on that he did not agree
00:35:36
with down in Mountaineer he asked me
00:35:38
what would I do in that situation and I
00:35:42
basically told him to tell the truth
00:35:47
after his death Steve's house had been
00:35:50
searched by the authorities
00:35:52
three days later his family arrived in
00:35:54
Mountain Aire to collect his belongings
00:35:56
[Music]
00:36:02
Michelle and I were in the kitchen and
00:36:04
she opened a drawer what we found in the
00:36:12
drawer were several bags of marijuana
00:36:15
and yet looked at us and said they've
00:36:19
already searched this house what's this
00:36:20
stuff doing here says they couldn't
00:36:22
possibly have missed this and they
00:36:26
couldn't have you just open the drawer
00:36:28
and there it was it wasn't hidden it
00:36:30
wasn't disguised in any way it was just
00:36:34
there the only reason that I could think
00:36:39
of of it being there was someone had
00:36:42
made an attempt to make officer Santa
00:36:44
and look bad or possibly the police
00:36:46
department look bad but I'm convinced
00:36:48
that the evidence that marijuana was
00:36:51
planted there after Steve Salmons death
00:36:54
Steve always recorded his traffic stops
00:36:57
on a small cassette recorder in her
00:36:59
search Steve's mother discovered that
00:37:01
all of these mini cassettes were missing
00:37:02
what happened to these potentially
00:37:05
incriminating cassettes and who put the
00:37:07
marijuana inside Steve's home this whole
00:37:12
case is is like a big spider web it just
00:37:15
and it has tentacles you know you go one
00:37:20
direction and there's five more places
00:37:22
to look
00:37:23
several witnesses were found who stated
00:37:26
that they saw chief Carson parked or
00:37:30
outside the Mountaineer Police
00:37:32
Department between 7:15 and 7:25 or
00:37:37
there abouts we're not talking one two
00:37:39
but several people place him there at
00:37:42
that time anyone who would make the
00:37:46
statement efficiently that I was in the
00:37:48
area or here at the police station any
00:37:50
time between 7:00 and 7:30 is a liar I
00:37:54
was in the company and it's very easy to
00:37:58
analyze where I was I was in the company
00:38:01
of two to three hundred people at a
00:38:03
public function at the mountaineer high
00:38:04
school and are a number of people that I
00:38:06
was there with and spoke with that can
00:38:08
place me there at that time
00:38:10
[Applause]
00:38:11
there are many disturbing questions
00:38:14
involved in this case if Steve wasn't
00:38:16
rude why was he killed inside the police
00:38:18
station
00:38:19
why was marijuana discovered in his
00:38:21
house after a thorough police search and
00:38:24
perhaps most importantly and Steve's
00:38:26
fellow officers know more than they are
00:38:28
telling about his death when I was
00:38:34
offered the opportunity when I had the
00:38:36
opportunity I did agree to take a
00:38:39
lie-detector test for the Federal Bureau
00:38:41
of Investigation there are questions
00:38:43
about the Sandlin death were very
00:38:45
specific I was more than happy to do
00:38:48
that to get the opportunity to do it I
00:38:51
spoke with director Nelson with the
00:38:53
Special Agent in Charge Nelson in
00:38:55
Albuquerque after that polygraph was
00:38:59
given and his official statement was
00:39:01
that the Federal Bureau of Investigation
00:39:04
has no reason to believe there was any
00:39:05
attempt to deceive them on my part
00:39:07
whatsoever I don't know if it's cronyism
00:39:11
I don't know if there's other people
00:39:13
involved I don't know and no one's
00:39:16
telling us that's the main frustration
00:39:22
is that there are things that we know
00:39:25
and can't understand why things are not
00:39:27
being done about them
00:39:33
if there's anyone anyone at all who has
00:39:36
any information we would be so eternally
00:39:40
grateful to know that so that we can put
00:39:45
our son to rest
00:39:47
[Music]
00:40:07
today one of the front lines on the war
00:40:09
on drugs is inside illicit laboratories
00:40:12
such as this using commonly available
00:40:15
chemical the operators of the small
00:40:17
mobile labs manufacture the highly
00:40:19
addictive methamphetamines known as
00:40:21
methyl crank or crystal tonight police
00:40:25
need your help dressing one of the most
00:40:27
notorious of these meth cooks according
00:40:30
to investigators his masterminded the
00:40:32
construction of methamphetamine labs
00:40:34
across the country his normal mode of
00:40:39
operation would be to have any one of
00:40:41
his cronies set up the lab for him just
00:40:44
basically have all the chemicals and all
00:40:46
the necessities on hand so when he shows
00:40:48
up he would not have to do any manual
00:40:52
labor type operations he just gets right
00:40:53
to the coat gets it done and gets out of
00:40:55
the area and takes his rewards with him
00:40:59
34 year old Jonathan John Brown also
00:41:02
known as thumper is a charter member of
00:41:04
a motorcycle gang known as the Hessians
00:41:06
currently he is a federal fugitive
00:41:08
without standing warrants in California
00:41:10
Tennessee and Oregon
00:41:19
Brown managed to elude detection until
00:41:21
November of 1987 but after a lengthy
00:41:24
stakeout he was tracked to one of his
00:41:25
labs near Lancaster California on this
00:41:31
particular day we observed Jonathan John
00:41:34
Brown carrying 6 5 gallon containers of
00:41:37
acetone he had about 30 gallons of
00:41:39
acetone which is a quite a sizable

amount and by the fact that he had such
00:41:44
a sizeable quantity would indicate to us
00:41:45
that this was a sizeable meth lab Brown
00:41:51
pulled away in his truck these clothes
00:41:53
did he told us that the acetone belonged
00:42:05
to another subject and that he was
00:42:08
merely delivering the chemicals
00:42:13
humper was arrested and booked
00:42:15
temporarily on charges stemming from his
00:42:17
possession of a small amount of meth
00:42:18
amphetamine and for some outstanding

00:42:26
after his arrest a search warrant was
00:42:29
obtained and police discovered a sizable
00:42:31
clandestine methamphetamine laboratory
00:42:33
but by the time more serious charges
00:42:35
could be filed thumper had been freed on
00:42:37
bond he then vanished methamphetamine on
00:42:45
the street coming directly from a lab
00:42:47
would sell for approximately ten
00:42:49
thousand dollars a pound it could have
00:42:53
very easily produced anywhere in a
00:42:56
neighborhood from fifty to a hundred
00:42:57
pounds of methamphetamine finished
00:42:59
product from this location police
00:43:04
estimated that with a chemicals on hand
00:43:06
this crude land could have manufactured
00:43:08
amphetamine is with a street value of
00:43:10
between one and one and a half million
00:43:12
dollars

February of 1988 thumper had managed to
00:43:22
elude police when an informant told
00:43:24
investigators that he was hiding out at
00:43:26
a remote drug lab near Medford Oregon we
00:43:31
were not exactly sure what we were going
00:43:33
to find in the house we had intelligence
00:43:35
that there was a good deal of weaponry
00:43:38
on the house and that these people were
00:43:40
to be considered quite dangerous
00:43:47
immediately upon washing the door open
00:43:49
with us the door around the
00:43:51
entertainment received gunfire inside do
00:43:55
police were wounded and one Hessian was
00:43:57

00:44:04
gas into the premises the people in the
00:44:06
house surrendered the officers searched
00:44:13
the property they found various drugs in
00:44:15
a crude lab with no thumping conducting
00:44:20
interviews with the neighbors I was able
00:44:22
to find out that supper was a regular on
00:44:25

00:44:27
often and normally for long periods of
00:44:29
time and was there as early as one day
