One pound is like the sweet spot for a lobster. And generally when they get bigger they taste worse.
00:00:05
Mine's 45 is what I
00:00:10
David Surf and Turf is the 45 lb lobster and like the 3 oz fillet or like the the
00:00:16
1 oz A5 Wagu like on the side basically buttered on top. It's like a giant piece of of lobster
00:00:22
and then just like one IKEA meatball. [Music]
00:00:30
Yo, what is up people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm
00:00:35
Marquez. I'm Andrew. And I'm David. And this week we've got Pixel 10 leaks.
00:00:41
I hesitate to use the word leaks, but I'll throw it in there. Uh, also CMF Watch 3 Pro, the Essential comeback, and
00:00:49
also something going on with Google Tasks and Keep, but you know, they just I don't
00:00:55
they're just always doing stuff, aren't they? But first, I actually I have an update on uh the FBI story. You guys
00:01:02
remember the FBI story with the Escobar phone? Yeah. I saw an article pop up yesterday that
00:01:08
had a conclusion, I think, to the story. So the the the story goes that I did
00:01:13
this video on the Escobar Fold. They sent it out to influencers. They didn't
00:01:18
send out to people who actually bought it and so they got a whole bunch of views and impressions and people clicking on their website and trying to
00:01:24
buy it and not sending the phone to them. I did this little expose video and
00:01:30
couple months later the FBI literally shows up to the studio and goes, "Hey, can we talk about that?" and I obliged
00:01:36
and uh they actually took my Escobar phone as evidence and they said, "We'll we'll get back to this later. Don't talk
00:01:43
about this, but uh someday this will all be over." And then I didn't hear from them for years. And then a couple months
00:01:49
ago or a couple years a month months ago, we did the FBI video, maybe like a year ago. Yeah. We reached back out to them
00:01:55
and we were like, "Hey, how's that case gone? Is it cool if we talk about it?" And they were actually cool with us
00:02:01
talking about it. I made the video explaining it. Um the final update is that uh the guy behind it all, Olaf, is
00:02:10
uh is pleading guilty and faces uh hundreds of I think millions of dollars in fines and also up to 20 plus years in
00:02:18
federal prison for each count of fraud. So good good news is that he won't be doing
00:02:25
this again. They won't be scamming people again. But yeah, pretty pretty crazy story that that arc all wrapped up with 5 years later. This is one of those
00:02:31
things where it was so ridiculous when it happened that it was unbelievable that anyone could think that it was
00:02:37
real, right? Cuz they were selling basically a Galaxy Fold, the original Galaxy Fold, which was like a $2,000 phone. Yep. They were selling quote unquote for $400
00:02:45
and they had all this insane promotional material with like, you know, with literal crime
00:02:50
just it was guns and like naked people and crime and it was just it was so it
00:02:57
was like a meme of itself. Yeah. Yeah. And it seemed like they were self-aware enough to know it was ridiculous, but
00:03:02
yet they were still actually scamming people. Yeah. The Escobar name is not exactly known for clean uh
00:03:09
Yeah, it it's just it's obviously not good and and you know, I thought the video was like part entertainment, part
00:03:15
obvious PSA, but yeah, people did spend the money. He apparently he owed something like $300,000 of of money to
00:03:21
people who bought the phones and didn't he was wired more than $37,000 between December 2019 and June 20120.
00:03:28
That's actually not that much money for it's not that much for doing something so stupid like this. It's like, yeah,
00:03:33
it's not I uh to go on your point, I almost think part of how absurd it was was part of
00:03:39
the reason some people got scammed cuz they saw like, oh, we know this is a
00:03:44
Samsung Fold that cost $2,000. Maybe he's just selling refurbished ones for
00:03:49
$500, but like I'm actually getting this cheaper and we'll just take the skin off and then they think they get the leg up
00:03:55
and then that's like the only way I can comprehend him getting sent. I think a lot of people were like, "Might as well
00:04:02
try." Yeah. That was a thing that definitely probably happened. The price was low enough that people had that much money to throw away of just a
00:04:08
flyer of like, "Hey, if I get the phone, it's a $2,000 fold." Yeah. And then they didn't get it. I mean, the
00:04:14
amount of people that are buying like the Freedom phone or like signing up for Trump mobile just because they want to
00:04:19
make the content about it. I feel like there were a decent amount of people doing that, too. You know what I mean?
00:04:24
Like they wanted there were probably a bunch of YouTubers that were like I get to make a video about this even if I
00:04:30
don't get the device at least I can make a video about how I got scammed. That's true. So
00:04:35
that's true. Dang. Easy way to make money. But was 300k really worth the rest of your life in prison and millions of dollars in fines?
00:04:41
I don't think so. Not ideal. Yeah. So that's the update. There you have it. Yeah. Maybe the other FBI story will be told
00:04:47
someday here. Yeah. Uh but that's the one that I have told. Uh moving on. Okay. The story we have
00:04:53
here is uh Apple Care 1 is introducing a new $20 a month subscription plan. Yeah.
00:04:59
Uh Apple is effectively trying to get you to buy insurance but for more than
00:05:06
just like your phone or laptop for multiple things. Yeah. So usually when you buy a new device from Apple, you get to sign up
00:05:11
for Apple Care Plus, I think it's called. And and that's you can sign up for that within 60 days of purchasing
00:05:16
the device. And that gives you like a couple of years of uh protection for
00:05:22
accidental damage and then you can add on like the theft protection all this stuff. It's very good. Obviously a lot
00:05:27
of people get Apple Care because it's like one of the best sort of insurance policies there is. Mhm. Now they have been making so much money
00:05:35
on insurance policies that they want to make even more money on insurance policies. They Yeah. So, they just introduced this
00:05:40
new uh plan called Apple Care 1, which is a new $20 a month subscription plan from Apple, which is a lot of money
00:05:47
considering they have a lot of subscription services at this point. But this plan covers up to three
00:05:52
products, and you can add additional products for $6 extra per month. Uh, you get the same coverage you get with Apple
00:05:58
Care Plus, unlimited repairs, for accidental damage, 24/7 support, but also you can add products you bought up
00:06:04
to four years ago versus the normal 60-day window. Mhm. So, I think that this is sort of
00:06:10
going to be like the the target of this is a is families is what I'm sort of
00:06:15
seeing here. Do you think that's only going to be in the beginning when they launch this the four-year prior one? Cuz like
00:06:23
if this is stays alive for three years and there's Apple Care 1 and I break my phone like I can I can cover things that
00:06:30
were broken way after the 90-day limit. I assume so. I think it'll keep going. You think forever you will be able to
00:06:36
protect something that's four years old? Yes. You're talking about with Apple Care like like if I if I buy my phone right
00:06:42
now and in one year it breaks. So I buy Apple Care 1 because I can cover
00:06:48
something that's up to four years old. Oh no. Okay. So I think the promotional of the beginning there is a um there's a thing where they
00:06:54
will run diagnostics on your device that you add to the plan to make sure it's like in good health and then also when
00:07:00
you add it. Yeah. And it also has to be in good condition. Okay. So they do. You can't do insurance fraud.
00:07:05
That's called fraud. just and I'm sure a lot of people will do it and go hang out
00:07:10
with Olaf. I would like to do medical insurance fraud, but that's a whole another thing. Wait, I have a question about this. So,
00:07:17
you can add three devices. Just glossing over that. You can add three devices, right? Yeah. Yeah. So, my question is right now I'm paying
00:07:24
basically $40 a month for all of my family's like iPhones for Apple Care. $9.99,
00:07:30
you know, can I do three iPhones for 20 bucks? Yeah. So, actually, you should I'm in.
00:07:36
Yeah, this is going to save money. Wait, you did say families. There's something that says this can be for more than one specific person,
00:07:42
I believe. So, I guess that would be a big difference on can we just like split this or just
00:07:49
like one person have to be the owner or would it have to like all be attached to someone's Apple ID or something, you
00:07:54
know? Cuz if it's like my AirPods, my phone, my computer, then I get it.
00:08:00
But if I could do like my phone, my sister's phone, my mom's phone, that would be ideal. Wait, so how much?
00:08:06
You said $9.99 a month for $9.99 a month. Okay, that's more expensive than I thought.
00:08:11
Is it? Yeah, because I I just had to do this this past Saturday cuz Jess shattered
00:08:17
her phone. So, we had to go to the Apple store in Williamsburg and they like
00:08:22
there was someone across from me who didn't have Apple Care and they were like, "Oh yeah, for you it'll be like I think it was like 180 bucks or something
00:08:29
like that. It was like 300 bucks to like fix the back of the of the phone and for us it was like 29 bucks.
00:08:35
And I was like, is this worth it? It it feels like it right now, but I don't know
00:08:40
if it if it's the back screen or the back glass and the metal is not dented, I
00:08:46
believe it was $29 to replace just the back glass. But had the metal been dented or they had to like give us a
00:08:52
different phone or something, then it would have been like 99. And then it just go there's like multiple tiers for it. Our repair is not in the Apple
00:08:59
world. So I don't This has not been my experience with Apple Care at all. Really? Yeah. First of all, I just checked. I
00:09:04
pay $7.99 for Apple Care. Wait, why do you have Apple Care?
00:09:10
I mean, actually, why don't Yeah. No, it would be dumb to not have Apple. I kept this phone alive
00:09:16
cuz it's like, oh no, like a part broke. Let me just go spend $10 and get it replaced in two hours.
00:09:22
I actually This is Okay. It's the life support of that phone. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. Really on life
00:09:28
support on the 12 mini. Yeah. And I don't think I've ever paid more than $20 and I've replaced like literally every single part on this
00:09:34
phone. This Oh, the screen too. Both this front. No, I haven't replaced the front screen. That's that's the only
00:09:39
original part on the phone. Ellis, you should buy Apple Care 1 and two more iPhone 12 minis and just
00:09:44
literally let it ride, baby. Yeah. The newsroom post does not say anything about family plans. Um but Apple one which has all
00:09:52
the services that you know like the fitness plus and TV plus that is shared with your family plan. So well Apple one
00:09:59
ultimate or whatever it is. It's not called that something but either way um yeah I assume you could probably do it
00:10:05
for your family and this is probably just a way for people to you know ensure their stuff for their family.
00:10:10
Yeah. This is all part of Apple slowly just becoming more and more of a services company. hundreds. They have so
00:10:17
many services and obviously they've they've made a good amount of hardware and they sell a lot of that stuff too, but the way they're growing as a company
00:10:23
is by offering more and more monthly subscription services.
00:10:28
Yeah, this is another one. Yeah, there will be more. Yeah. How long until it's the phone
00:10:34
the phone as a service? I I mean it already kind of is. Basically is doing it right now. It already is. You you pay monthly phone
00:10:40
service to be able to like use the wireless data. Well, I mean like to buy the phone. Like, oh, if you give us $20
00:10:46
a month when the new iPhone comes out, you'll just get a new iPhone. Just come in, try that, right?
00:10:51
I mean, didn't have to try that and then cancel it before you got the upgrade. Yeah.
00:10:56
Oh, yeah. Remember? I remember that story. But yeah, they're that's basically
00:11:01
carrier service. Yeah. Yeah. I could definitely see Apple doing that. I mean, they already do financing. So, is that
00:11:07
that different? Yeah, that's true. You know, Clara. All right. All right, I need someone to
00:11:12
explain this Google Tasks, Google Keep, Google reminders. So, implosion.
00:11:18
Remember how we spent all that time getting Andrew to join Google Task? We did a whole episode about it and he
00:11:25
finally got on Google Task and now he uses Google Task every day. I'm also on Google Task now. That's why I'm so scared of this headline.
00:11:30
If I just see Google Tasks or Keep, I'm like, one's dying. Doing that was a good call because it
00:11:36
seems like they're going all in on Google Task basically. So, this news was already announced uh but now I think
00:11:43
they're announcing that it's going to be happening something like that which is that when you set a reminder in Google
00:11:48
Keep, it will now show up as a Google task and it'll have a little like note
00:11:54
next to it that'll be like this is from Keep or whatever. So, if you have like a recurring grocery list or something, I'm
00:12:00
assuming that will show Yeah, I'm guessing that would show up as a Google task but saying from Keep. Like it has a
00:12:06
little badge next to it. Is Is this Dude, this is some This is 10x product management right
00:12:12
here. I just want to say Google PMs, you're corruption it, folks.
00:12:18
Does this work the other way around where like if I say go grocery shopping recurring on a task and I can link a
00:12:24
keep grocery list to it? You can cross link it with your Google calendar and then sync it with a Gmail
00:12:30
reminder which you're joking. It's all saving. They did add Google Task to Google Calendar and Google Task is like its own
00:12:37
thing in Google Calendar now. Like it's basically the whole app. You can like tab over and you just have your Google Task there. Um to answer your question,
00:12:44
unclear. That would be cool. Like what I want is to be able to attach a note to a
00:12:49
a Google task. Like that would be cool. Uh this seems to be so far just in in
00:12:55
the reverse. So you can like just set a reminder in Google Keep and then it'll just pop up like don't forget about this
00:13:00
thing you have in Google Tag. I just Okay, I want to propose something. So, millions of years ago, our brains
00:13:05
developed this thing called memory. Mhm. And we can You mean RAM? Yeah. And we can um remember to do
00:13:12
things. Yeah, but that's notoriously really buggy. Well, sure, but life is buggy. You know
00:13:19
what I'm saying? David, you once forgot to pick up Ellis on your way to the office.
00:13:24
I was Yeah. Also, we had been texting. I said, "See you at 10:00." And in that 10 you
00:13:31
forgot what? See you see not
00:13:36
what do you want from me man? You don't you can't Google keep and drive. Hey
00:13:41
and you know we wouldn't have had that fun story if I didn't forget to take them off. So life would not be vibrant
00:13:47
if everything went as planned. So Google Keep does not sync with Google Drive. But Google Drive can sync
00:13:55
with Google T and keep someone else take this. That's already this will be fun later when we talk
00:14:01
about nothing and essential also. Take the wheel. Take the wheel. Uh yeah, the new capability will make Google Test the single solution for
00:14:07
managing your todos across workspace. It's just like another nail in the coffin to what David is always talking
00:14:12
about. How anytime someone remembers that Google Keep exists, it's like people get nervous. Can I ask a question? What? Go for it.
00:14:18
Who sets reminders in Google Keep? I set you like really the entire point
00:14:24
of tasks. They're even geoenced, right? or geo tagged. So you can be like when I
00:14:30
get home remind me to blank in keep. I don't know if that's in keep.
00:14:35
That might have been in Google Assistant task which was folded into Google task.
00:14:41
Use your brains. I'm telling you it is so much simpler. No, it's not. It's horrible.
00:14:47
Google system remind. Open a note. Access the remind me feature. Look for
00:14:52
the bell icon at the top of the note. I do know that bell icon and choose a time and location.
00:14:57
Yeah, location. Yeah. Huh. Oh, nice. You could do that also with the assistant. So, you could talk to like
00:15:03
your Google Home and ask it to remind you to do something when you get to work and you get to work and it would like light up the assistant.
00:15:09
I didn't realize that was through Keep though. Yeah. I thought it was through tap cuz I do it in my car all the time. I guess I never had to interface with
00:15:16
the keep behind that reminder, but it was going through Keep technically.
00:15:22
Huh. Yeah. Can I or does anyone else have anything to say with that? Cuz I have a
00:15:27
random Google gripe that I'd like to We might as well just I just want to plea to not kill Google
00:15:32
Keep. Don't even Don't even say it, Adam. Into the void. You're willing
00:15:38
the day we read that during trivia. It's the day the tear runs down from Adam's face. I feel like I want to say kill Google
00:15:44
key. I cannot say this is Google just taking the tarp and like slowly covering Google key over.
00:15:51
One day I'm going to get an email in the middle of the pod from Megan Fox and it's going to say some sad news about Google key. God,
00:15:57
that's actually swear actually going to happen. Here's my gripe right now. Mhm. In Google Drive or Google Docs, I guess.
00:16:04
See, that's already insert an image button. The drop down. The first option always
00:16:11
used to be upload from computer because I put photos in our Google our outlines for the pod every single I know you guys
00:16:18
have a different gripe with pictures in Google. I usually just drop and drop. Um now the top one is generate an image
00:16:25
and we've done 300 episodes of this. So my brain just automatically clicks the
00:16:30
button and clicks the first one and every time I then have to click out of generate an image to just put a stupid
00:16:35
picture of like a watch in this. It drives me insane. Why would they do that? In what in what world is
00:16:42
an image generated by whatever model they're using for that right now better
00:16:48
than the image that you know is on your computer? This is just Google spamming like getting more users of the service so
00:16:53
they can say they have more people using it. Oh my god, you're so right. Every time I've accidentally clicked it, they're like, "Count that."
00:16:59
Yeah, 100%. Yeah. And then on the next Google ION, they'll be like, "Users have been loving
00:17:05
generating images. They're generating millions of images and then they're stuck. They can't stop generating images.
00:17:11
Andrew Manganelli physically cannot stop because they keep hitting it by accident.
00:17:17
I mean, you can probably count how many times I did it. There's I think I have like eight pictures in this doc. So that's
00:17:22
why you have all these generated images. These are not gen. Yeah. Wow.
00:17:27
All right. We have one more thing. And this is a question I have for Adam. I have an answer. I have been non-stop
00:17:33
seeing that the new Donkey Kong game is like 10 out of 10 incredible
00:17:39
like the new Donkey Kong on Switch. Yeah, Donkey Kong Bonanza is like absolutely killing it in game.
00:17:47
And you have it. Yeah, it's awesome. Is there this game? Because it's like All right,
00:17:53
so I used to love these games in I don't even know what year. 97 something like
00:17:59
that. Crash Bandicoot Spyro. Oh my god. Those are PlayStation games. PlayStation games. Not Nintendo.
00:18:04
PlayStation games. But like you're this little character that just runs around doing a bunch of levels and you're like
00:18:09
doing things as you go, collecting gems, you know, the usual. They did that with Donkey Kong, but as if it's like a
00:18:16
modern game in 2025. So like the levels themselves are massive. And because it's
00:18:22
Donkey Kong, you can just destroy the entire level. Like my first night playing this game, I kind of just wanted
00:18:27
to I wasn't sure if I wanted to like dive deep into it, you know? It was like late. I'm like, let me just play like five or 10 minutes. So, I just destroyed
00:18:34
the whole level for 5 minutes. And it was like kind of relaxing to just It's like a when you go to like a break room
00:18:39
or something like that vacuuming like what? Like you have to get every single piece.
00:18:45
Oh, yes. You mean a rage room? Is that what they're called? A break room is where you have a pot of coffee with
00:18:51
Oh, I was Yeah, it's a rage room. Like when you go with a bat and just destroy a bunch of glass things, it has that same kind of
00:18:57
like vibe for most of like the whole level. So you could just walk around destroying things
00:19:03
and that's it. And you don't have to play the game at all. So that's like what I did for like the first half hour of me
00:19:10
playing. I was just walking around destroying corner rock. It was awesome. I've only played this game for like 20
00:19:15
minutes, but I kept getting myself stuck because I was just like burrowing into the ground and then I couldn't figure
00:19:21
out how to get out. Yeah, it took me like a good amount of time to realize that he could just climb.
00:19:27
Playing Minecraft. Yeah, it's sort of like Minecraft, but you can destroy things. Not
00:19:34
Oh my god, if they DLCed and then Donkey Kong could start building things, that would be crazy. Also, what platform is this on, Adam?
00:19:41
This is a Nintendo Switch 2 game. That's right. You know how good this game is?
00:19:47
Last week, I was like, Adam, do you want to go do you and your fiance want to go get dinner with me tonight? And Anna goes, "No, I'm gonna play Donkey Kong."
00:19:54
I mean, which is different from the usual response. That's just not gonna say.
00:20:00
That's not that different. But this time, I had a reason. I was working, guys. I knew that I had
00:20:06
10 out of 10 on IGN. No, the game is actually like really good. So, I think IGN compared it to uh
00:20:12
Zelda, Breath of the Wild, and Odyssey. And Odyssey, which is made by it is made
00:20:18
by the Super Mario Odyssey team. M and I could see the the collab the comparison to Zelda just because there are puzzles
00:20:25
and things that you have to do and it's not overtly clear. Like you just will be going through the level, you will stumble upon this thing and if you
00:20:32
there's a thing you could do where you like clap and see all around you and you could see a banana and be like, "Oh, I
00:20:37
got to get the banana." And every time you get a banana, it goes, "Oh, banana." And it's awesome. But
00:20:43
I love Japan. I do the same thing.
00:20:48
Um, after a long run, I'm like, "Oh, banana." The game is just that it's just fun.
00:20:54
Yeah, I need to play I'm going to play it on the plane today. It's going to be fun. Yeah, because I feel like you might lowkey like this.
00:21:00
Yeah. Just walking around bashing things. Well, there's like a point to it, but in the process, you get to destroy
00:21:05
everything. There's like a point. Yeah, you can play the level if you want. Like, that's what I started doing yesterday and I've
00:21:11
gotten already fairly far. I don't know how long the game is, so I don't know like how much I'm at. But someone said it's like 20 hours to beat
00:21:17
it, but multiple people are like 50 or 60 hours into it still just like stuff
00:21:23
everywhere. Oh, yeah. Cuz the comp that kind of time, guys, you're a fly to China. That's
00:21:28
literally the game. That's fair. You know how many hours I have in Dota 2?
00:21:34
Can I guess? You should guess. How long have you been playing this game? Since 2011. Since 2011. Okay. Is this a Were you
00:21:42
paying attention? Cuz he said it out loud right before we started. No, I do remember what you said.
00:21:47
Oh, 20,000. 20,000. What hours? Hours? 20,000?
00:21:53
No. No. No. I mean, now my number is going to seem low as hell. Can I say what I think it is cuz I think I remember it.
00:21:59
Yeah. Was it 4,168
00:22:04
hours? It was 4,620 uh hours. That's a lot of hours. That's not a lot.
00:22:10
You're not even an expert yet. I'm still the second to lowest. You got to put in your 10,000 hours. 10,000 hours, babe. That's like That's
00:22:16
how you get the thing. That's true. 10,000 hours. So, you're like kind of a rookie still. Yeah. Yeah.
00:22:21
Yeah. Yeah. If I put that into like learning piano or something, though. Um, do you want to know how many days that
00:22:27
is? Ellis just did the math. Okay. But you said you said 4620. Yeah. But also, think about this. You're
00:22:32
only awake for like tw or 16 hours. Stop letting your facts get in the way of this joke.
00:22:38
No. So, double that. No, it's sad enough outside. It's 192 days.
00:22:43
So, it's basically twice that. It's It's over a year effectively of waking hours that I played Dota.
00:22:49
Damn. Runescape people. That's basically getting out of the tutorial. This is only since 2011. So, in the last
00:22:56
15 years, that's 14 years. That's in the last 14 years, you spent one entire year playing this game.
00:23:04
That's so much. That's only one. It's only 114. That's like if you you just had 15 years of
00:23:10
time and you just sat still for one whole year and just played the game. That's so much.
00:23:16
Wow. 114th of your day. That's what two hours a day every day. That's not that crazy.
00:23:22
Yeah. Two hours. Two hours a day. But think about one day being six hours. You've never done a six
00:23:27
hour? I've literally never done a six-hour gaming session. Oh man. Neither have I.
00:23:34
There were periods. I'm just Yeah, we should just go to trivia.
00:23:39
This is a great time to move on to trivia. The thing about this conversation is half the people are like rookie numbers.
00:23:44
The other half of people are like, "You have no life." That's true. I only play this like once a month now, by the way. And I only play
00:23:50
it for like 2 hours like once a month. The first step is admitting you have a problem. Sorry. That's crazy cuz just like by laws of
00:23:56
averages, you must have had like a steep amount of hours before. Oh yeah. College
00:24:01
and a little bit after. And then in between jobs. Actually, in between my last job and this job, I took a month
00:24:08
off between jobs. I played Dota for like eight hours. I remember you telling me that because I started here already.
00:24:14
Yeah. I was like, "What'd you do?" Play Dota. Played Dota for a month straight. Okay. It's on his screen right now.
00:24:20
You still haven't won. One, Ellis. Yeah. Well, you haven't beaten the game yet.
00:24:26
Just pause. There's no game to beat. You can't pause an online game, Andrew. Sounds like a skill issue. Um, guys. All
00:24:32
right. So, people are bored. We've covered lots of really great topics so far today and we have even more great ones to go. But
00:24:38
this feels like a great time to announce that in early slash possibly mid slash there's a a chance it might be late
00:24:46
August we will be publishing posting releasing dropping the next edition of Trivia
00:24:54
Extravaganza. Whoa. That's right. And as promised well I
00:24:59
shouldn't say as promised because I'm not following through on this promise. Few weeks ago, I promised that there would be a lobster category in Trivia
00:25:06
Extravaganza. We had so many bangers that I had to scoot. It had to It had to
00:25:12
go boot. That's the word I was looking for. It's really early in the morning. Normally, we record this much later in the morning than it is.
00:25:17
That's true. It is early. Um, so guys, I I'm taking one of those lobster questions and we're doing it
00:25:23
right now. Are you ready? Yeah. Guys, and if this doesn't prove they're freaky,
00:25:30
I didn't say freaky. I love those sea bugs. I love eating those.
00:25:38
Guys, prior to being exposed to oxygen, what color is a lobster's blood?
00:25:44
Everyone knows this. Just learned this yesterday. Everyone knows this. I feel like there's a default answer to
00:25:50
what color is something's blood when it's not the normal color. Then put it down. Okay. All right. Okay.
00:25:56
Sounds like we're wrong. Sounds like we're wrong. Yeah. It's going to be like neon green or something. I would start thinking
00:26:01
freaky. Guys, this isn't no normal animal. This is a lobster. This is King
00:26:07
Freak of the sea. Prior to being exposed to oxygen, so before they start breathing.
00:26:12
Uh well, when they're in the womb, when it's on its way, do lobsters have wombs. Wait, actually, I don't.
00:26:18
Or do they lay eggs? They they lay eggs. Um, also in your uh circulatory system, blood leaves the
00:26:24
heart oxygenated and returns to it depleted of oxygen. So before it gets back to the heart.
00:26:31
Yes. And then but it's you have like if you cut a lobster open it will oxygenize oxygenate.
00:26:36
Oxidize oxidize. O just Dad. Can I go home?
00:26:43
It's 4 in the morning. I can't do this anymore. There's an answer to this. Guys, it's too late. Yeah, there's there is an answer to this. You either know it or you don't.
00:26:49
And I have even more lobster questions if you ask. It's more insane than the color I'm thinking. I don't know. I don't know what you're
00:26:54
thinking. We'll see. Say it out loud. Don't do it. Don't do it. I almost trap just like
00:26:59
last week. Yeah. So, it's a laptop. Okay. Uh we'll be right back.

That's shopify.com/wwayform. All right, welcome back. Andrew Marquez,
00:28:28
David, I've got a riddle for you. What is black and white and orange all
00:28:34
over? But not all over, just in between black and white. Probably not the CMF Watch 3 Pro because
00:28:42
uh it'll probably come in in a different color than it looks online like every other product. Oh, good answer. Yeah,
00:28:48
that was exactly it. How' you know? We've got new cheap to talk about. Um,
00:28:57
you've you've probably you've probably heard of the CMF Watch 2 Pro.
00:29:04
Watch Pro 2. I hate everything. They changed the name. Yes, the name is different.
00:29:09
Oh, yeah. It was Watch Two. Yeah, watch Pro two. And this is the Watch Three Pro. Okay.
00:29:14
I'm not kidding. What if there are multiple watches? Watches three pro. Watches three pro.
00:29:20
Well, CMF uh the color material finished the subbrand of uh the sub the the cheap
00:29:27
subbrand of the cheap company that is no longer cheap anymore. You're doing great, sweet. Nothing has released a $99, currently
00:29:35
$79 uh because it's early sales smartwatch called the uh CMF Watch 3
00:29:41
Pro. Uh it has a 1.43 43 inch OLED display with a 10% increase in screen to
00:29:47
body ratio from the watch 2 and it comes in three colors and it can do chat GBT
00:29:52
for some reason. Wait, so the colors are what actually confused me the most here. Same. So the colors are dark gray, light gray,
00:29:59
and orange. But if you notice, the styles in all of those colors are also different. Yeah, these are just three different
00:30:05
watches. These are just three completely different watches style-wise. So the the orange is actually a dark gray bezel and
00:30:12
like metal piece which with some orange accents. A flat bezel that's kind of notched with the orange.
00:30:19
Then the dark gray. No, wait, sorry. That was the orange color. That's actually dark gray. Then the dark gray
00:30:26
is just kind of a lighter gray. So it's like middle gray. It's like the middle
00:30:31
porridge. And it looks angled, not flat. Maybe. I think it's kind of flat, but it has no notches, right? and it has a little um
00:30:38
like etch in the bottom left that says CMF by nothing. And then light gray is a lighter gray,
00:30:45
but it's kind of got like a beveled or like curved design. It's not flat.
00:30:51
Perhaps you call it a lip. A lip. Yeah, a lip is a good way. Yeah, they also took out the swappable
00:30:58
bezels from the last one. And this is like this is now nothing. Not nothing.
00:31:04
This is now CMF going back on a lot of replaceable parts. Like we talked about how the uh the what is the the the phone
00:31:12
with the replaceable back parts that CMF phone the other one that that we talked about two weeks ago fair the Fairphone 6 has
00:31:20
like those like replaceable back parts now. And then the CMF phone one also had
00:31:25
the replaceable back parts. And when they released the CMF phone 2 they most of them were not compatible with the CMF
00:31:32
phone 2. Y and now they're kind of doing the same thing with the watch where they like introduce a new sort of like replaceable
00:31:39
swappable paradigm, but they don't keep it going, which kind of sucks. It's just a lot of e-waste.
00:31:44
It's a lot. CMF makes some really cool looking things, but a lot of the stuff they do kind of makes you scratch your
00:31:52
head. One of them being calling it the Watch Pro 2 and then the Watch 3 Pro. Yeah, it feels like that's just like that is
00:31:59
CMF in a nutshell. Yeah, it does have dualband GPS though, which is kind of interesting. Um, that's a feature that
00:32:05
we're only seeing in like higherend smartwatches these days. It it's got good stuff. I mean, it's it's what 13 days of battery life,
00:32:12
although it says under typical usage, which is 11 days with heavier tracking and 4.5 days with always on display.
00:32:18
I mean, that's still good. It's still good for a smartwatch for sure. Says it charges 100% in 99 minutes.
00:32:26
There is an AI powered coaching. what everybody's asking for these days. It's the new rage. Everyone's doing that.
00:32:31
But nobody wants We don't know if anybody wants it because nobody's asked for it, but maybe it's good. Maybe
00:32:38
I feel like Apple just announced it at Dubdub and then Samsung was like, "Make that fast and make that fast. Make that fast." Yeah, write that down. Write
00:32:44
that down. And then now CMF wants to do it. I wonder if anyone likes that. I mean, we're going to find out this
00:32:50
year. This will be the year we find out. And then next year they'll either all disappear and no one will hear from them again or they'll be everywhere. I think
00:32:57
it's going to be the former. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah. Okay. The other thing is that um now you
00:33:02
will be using the Nothing X app to control the watches and I believe the previous watches will also be
00:33:08
transitioning to the Nothing X. That's nice at least cuz the headphones also use the app. It is nice. Oh, the CMF head.
00:33:15
Sorry, that nothing headphone one. I agree that doing it all in one app is nice. It's just weird that this is the
00:33:21
CMF stuff that's now doing the nothing things. Yep. CMF's doing nothing.
00:33:26
Nothing tries so hard to be trendy. And I feel bad talking smack because I do
00:33:32
appreciate how hard they try, right? Like so much harder than everyone else. But they try so hard and make so little
00:33:37
sense all the time that when you say nothing X app instead of X representing the interchange of all their products.
00:33:43
It just sounds like nothing is collaborating with a company called App. Yeah. With
00:33:50
like the Nothing X app. Yeah. Well, speaking of nothing, uh we saw a random post from Essential, which
00:33:57
if you remember the Essential brand, the Essential PH1 was one of the greatest phones ever created.
00:34:02
One of the most acidic phones ever created, too. Got them. Interesting. Yeah. It um
00:34:09
Yeah. So, uh famously Andy Rubin's phone company. It was supposed to be sort of like the pinnacle of what Android could
00:34:16
be. It had a beautiful design. It was one of the first teardrop notch phones. It didn't have a headphone jack and they
00:34:21
added like a little pogo pin adapter to add a headphone jack which was really lame. U but it had a DACK in it. Anyway,
00:34:28
it was really really cool. It was a really cool company and then they just disappeared sort of out of nowhere
00:34:34
because they kind of like ran out of money. They also launched on Sprint in the United States which was the stupidest thing you could possibly do.
00:34:39
Yep. Uh, and then they disappeared for a long time. And then in 2021, uh, Carl Pay bought the brand and
00:34:47
allegedly nothing was originally going to be called Essential. They were just going to take over the brand
00:34:52
and then they didn't and they called it nothing. So they've just done nothing with the
00:34:58
Essential brand. Yeah. I kind of forgot they owned that brand. Yeah. Yeah. Well, did they really announce it much
00:35:05
back then or like they started talking about it in the last couple like Yeah, they didn't really announce it or
00:35:10
do anything with it. No. He did a video like a month ago about why they bought it. And what was cool about it is someone who works at Nothing
00:35:17
Now has the old Project Gem, the second phone they were going to release, the really skinny one. if you have a chance
00:35:23
to watch the video, the funniest thing is the keyboard because in order to fit the keyboard,
00:35:29
so for anyone who doesn't know, Project Gem was an extremely thin phone, like a 4x1 aspect ratio.
00:35:35
Um, and in order to fit the keyboard, it basically had to like diagonally go
00:35:40
across the screen from left bottom to right upwards to fit everything. And it took like three
00:35:45
quarters of the screen up to just put an entire keyboard. And um, it's very funny. Go watch that
00:35:51
video if you want to see what Project Gem could have been. But possibly in one of the biggest
00:35:56
letdowns of all time, uh we see this post on Twitter that's just print hello
00:36:02
world from the Essential account. And everyone's like, "Oh my god, is Essential coming back? Are they going to
00:36:07
make another Essential Phone? It's going to be amazing." Cuz everyone forgot that, you know, nothing had bought them. And then they just started posting about
00:36:13
essential space, which is like that the key on the new nothing phones that adds your stuff to
00:36:20
the essential space. It's called the essential key. Mhm. And it's like, wow, you really you
00:36:25
really took a really amazing brand and you just used it for an AI feature that nobody really likes. They're I probably wouldn't take the
00:36:32
brand name. They did. The phone was really cool and in hindsight it was, but it was getting me'd on so hard because
00:36:37
they called it the essential phone right in the peak of first getting rid of the headphone jack. True. Like everyone was
00:36:43
like, "What? The headphone jack's not essential." And back then that was a crazier thing. And also Andy Rubin just
00:36:48
didn't have the best record. Well, which kind of really killed the company.
00:36:53
He did until his stuff happened and then the the Gem Phone came out like right
00:36:59
around when he got in trouble and exposed. So that was fun. So yeah, I probably would also get
00:37:05
but it it was a weird thing for them to tweet from the account. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Everyone got all stoked and then they were just like you
00:37:12
can integrate to Google calendar with the essential key and everyone's like oh no sad.
00:37:17
Yeah. I want the essential space to get better. I've talked about it in every
00:37:22
new phone review I've done for nothing Phone just to see like how they've improved it over the time that it's been
00:37:28
out and it it still doesn't sync anywhere. So I have this thing where I
00:37:34
save links and I save things that I want to remember later but I use actually right now I use raindrop.io which is
00:37:40
multiplatform but the whole point is I can access it from anywhere. I can access it from my computer. I can save things from my computer. I can access
00:37:46
stuff from my phone. Save things from my phone. And this is a kind of useful tool, but it only works on your phone
00:37:52
and only pulls from the stuff you've saved earlier on your phone. So if you have any other devices that you save stuff from, it won't show up here. So my
00:38:00
number one ask for this is for it to get backed up somewhere. Maybe I can just access it from a browser or something
00:38:06
that just that would make it a multitude more useful for me. Yeah. And then from there it can just be the
00:38:11
place that I dump stuff that I want to remember later. That's kind of cool. They can add features there. It could be useful. Add calendar events, whatever.
00:38:18
But yeah, I every time they announce a new phone, I go, "Ah, it's still getting better, but I'm still not going to use
00:38:23
it because I can only use it on my phone." Yeah, which theoretically Google should have the ability to do all of those
00:38:30
things because they have all your calendar data and all your drive and all your Gmail data. I was just going to say, isn't that just
00:38:35
the Google Suite? Like everything you just described. That's the possibility of the Google suite, but they haven't actually done
00:38:41
anything like that. Yeah. Yeah. Which is why all these new AI browsers are popping up. like OpenAI
00:38:46
is reportedly working on their own browser and the perplexities perplexity has come. The whole value chain of that is that if
00:38:52
you're talking to the AI model all the time, it learns more about you so the browser can be more personalized. Uh but
00:38:58
Google's had the opportunity to do that for a really long time and they haven't done it which is very fun.
00:39:03
Um I mean I don't know how you would train a model like that so this could be a stupid question but doesn't Google
00:39:09
already have all that information like why do I need to continually talk to it again? Like it already really do.
00:39:16
I just think that they probably are trying to try to fine line between privacy and figuring out how to much of
00:39:22
your data to use and then also it's Google. Yeah. And that's kind of the answer.
00:39:27
I feel like they kind of were on to something a long time ago but then never really finished it. Remember Google now?
00:39:34
Remember when Tap? Yeah. Now on Tap, which was And then they added like on screen stuff, but
00:39:39
basically the idea was, "Oh, we're Google. We know all this stuff about you. We see your calendar. or we see your Gmail. So when you wake up in the
00:39:46
morning, Google now is going to tell you what you need to know right now, which is, oh, there's a little extra traffic on your way to work because I know where
00:39:52
you work and I know how long it takes for you to get to work and when you typically leave. So leave 10 minutes earlier and you'll get there on time and
00:39:58
here's the things you're going to do when you get to work and here's the calendar events and how you need to go from thing to thing. And it it that that idea of like knowing
00:40:05
everything about you and being helpful for you is is useful. It's helpful and yeah, Gemini could do some more of
00:40:12
that. I think but in in general right now it's kind of not using it. Basically the best Gemini feature now is
00:40:18
to take a screenshot and have it add it to your calendar which is good. Yeah. But same thing that Siri visual
00:40:25
intelligence does on the iPhone. Yeah. If you use Apple calendar. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like Google now got so
00:40:32
watered down and just put into like the little pixel widget that's on like the top left. It was so useful for so long. Yeah. Went
00:40:38
away. Anyway, speaking of Google, nice as usual. That's all I added to that conversation.
00:40:45
I was reading about raindrop.io. It looks pretty cool. It's great. It sounds pretty links in there.
00:40:50
It's just like a save save for later kind of place basically. You remember pocket? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, you know how Pocket's kind of like
00:40:56
going away. Yeah. So, I switch to this. Didn't Pocket they they made a new Pocket called like Folio or something
00:41:02
too. So, I need to try that too. Yeah, probably. I think cuz Pocket had an app that was
00:41:07
native on a bunch of platforms. I have the Pocket app on my phone, my tablet, the browser extension, everything. So,
00:41:12
anytime I need to say something for later, I just put it in my pocket. And now that that is like going away,
00:41:17
raindropio is essentially that. Pocket has such better branding though. It is. Put it in my pocket. So, perfect.
00:41:25
Yeah. What are you going to say with Rindrop? Put it in my raindrop.io. I don't I don't love that. Put it in my bucket. A whole song about
00:41:32
it. In my back pocket. In my back pocket. It's true. But yeah, I uh I use Randrap
00:41:37
now and and it's about the same thing. Speaking of Google, yes. Okay, so Google
00:41:46
has been notoriously bad at keeping things a secret at this point. I'm afraid to ask why. I don't know why.
00:41:52
Things just leak for like months before they come out for Google. Uh so before they're even announced.
00:41:58
Yeah. Before they're even like confirmed to be real products. Yeah. So, uh Google started owning that in the
00:42:03
past couple years. They've like poked fun at that. They've started like revealing things before the leaks can even do it or whatever. They're doing
00:42:09
this now with the Pixel 10. They've just shown us the design of the Pixel 10,
00:42:14
which is only a design, you know, we don't know the specs. We don't know the price. There are other things that they can announce later. Great. That'll
00:42:20
probably also leak, but whatever. But what they're showing us the design is the Pixel 10. And what's interesting
00:42:25
here is one, it's basically the Pixel 9. Yeah.
00:42:31
A little bit of a different like titanium-ish color. two, uh, if this is in fact a Pixel 10,
00:42:37
because there's a nice little 10-second video that they're showing us, which is like they're unveiling it. If this is in fact the Pixel 10 and not the 10 Pro,
00:42:46
then confirmed triple cameras on the base Pixel 10, which is a nice upgrade,
00:42:51
which I think we've mentioned this on a previous episode, makes it even more challenging to distinguish it between
00:42:56
the 10 and the 10 Pro. What are they going to do on the 10 Pro that's not on the 10 if there's triple cameras on the
00:43:02
10? of maybe a brighter screen. We might have some rumors.
00:43:07
I went full speculation on this. I even created a theory. Let's hear the theory. Okay. So,
00:43:12
create a sounded so we talked about that. How I need to make Google leaks
00:43:17
interesting because they happen every damn day. So, um so like you said, there's a 10-second video that showed
00:43:23
the goo. It just said 10 and a Pixel with three cameras. So, we're hoping I'm hoping personally a
00:43:29
base model 10 with a telephoto. Yeah. Then Google India tweets this a
00:43:36
different ad that says, "Ask more of your phone, Google Pixel 10 Pro." It's the same exact phone. It has the
00:43:42
exact like lens flare coming off of the the visor. It's in a little different
00:43:47
scenario. So then I'm like, "Oh, no. This is just the 10 Pro. It doesn't have 10." But Android Headlines has done a
00:43:55
bunch of different leaks to the point where it seems like they have the camera specs which might help us understand the
00:44:01
different if there are three on the base what the difference is and that is that the base phone will be using Pixel 9a
00:44:08
sensors for everything where the 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL will have cameras. That is
00:44:15
so hard to sell. So they both have triple cameras but the Pro has better triple cameras.
00:44:21
Correct. regular people are not going to care. This is funny. Yeah. And I But I don't Yeah, I don't think that
00:44:27
matters. I agree. I don't I hate to ding them for that because I think in the world of like people like deeply researching
00:44:33
their phones, they will realize that that's probably something that is worth it if you take a lot of pictures and photos and videos and all that, but that
00:44:41
is very hard for the regular person to understand. Oh, there's triple cameras on this one and there's triple cameras on this one.
00:44:47
Okay, I guess I'll just save my money and get the 10. Yeah, I would argue most people if they said
00:44:53
there's two cameras on this and three on the other, they would be like, "What does that do?"
00:44:59
I think most people know that you get the ultra wide or you get the zoom. I don't think most people know what an ultrawide really does.
00:45:06
The.5x. Most people just call it the.5x, I guess. But if you get the extra camera, that means it'll do better when
00:45:12
you zoom, basically. And if they both have that better zoom, then what's the point of upgrading to
00:45:18
the Pro if they both have it? I don't think Google's trying to get people to upgrade to the Pro. That's kind of how it feels.
00:45:24
Yeah. They just want anyone to have. Yeah. Wait, maybe this is maybe this is kind of hero work. Maybe they're just doing the best possible base phone and
00:45:31
then they're like, "The pro phones, whatever. We don't care that much about those, but we want to make the best base. What if they just call them the Pro
00:45:36
phones, but there's nothing different." And they charge $300 more. That's actually what's happening. Um, I think
00:45:42
you could argue the opposite way of it almost being nefarious of let's just throw three on the bottom phone, but
00:45:48
they're not as good. But no one's going to know the difference between good cameras, bad cameras. They just see three bigger number.
00:45:54
How do we know that that's the the regular one and not the Pro? We don't. We don't.
00:45:59
We're Shouldn't we assume it's the Pro then if it has three cameras? Because that's India posted that it's the Pro. India
00:46:05
postes the pro but there have been tons of rumors of the base having a third camera to the point of like specs coming
00:46:12
out for Google India account not the country of India. Well, so that was my theory that
00:46:19
Google's trying to confuse us with their own leaks now putting one as the 10 and
00:46:25
one as the 10 Pro and being like now you don't know our leaks are so bad maybe if we leak more you'll be more confused. I
00:46:31
I I think the real answer is whoever runs the Google India account doesn't talk to the person who runs the made by
00:46:36
Google account and just tweeted that it's the 10 Pro and oops they just told everyone it's the 10 Pro.
00:46:42
So let's see who thinks there will be three cameras on the base 10. I think there will be two cameras on the
00:46:48
base. Well according to this Android Hydra lines renders because they have renders
00:46:54
of uh four of the colors which are god awful by the way. Totally disagree.
00:47:00
Okay. I love these colors. Um, lemonch cello. Amazing. Okay, it's not.
00:47:06
If that's the if that's the color of lobster blood, I will admit it is freakier than crabs.
00:47:13
It looks like piss. It's sick piss, though. Sure. Okay. And then we've got frost,
00:47:19
which is kind of like a very, very, very muted blue. It's actually like the same color as the like MacBook Air blue.
00:47:25
It's barely blue. Barely blue. You've got indigo, which is like a deep blue, which is actually quite nice. That one's fire.
00:47:31
Uh, and obsidian, which is just black, but Whoa. Well, it's gray. Hell yeah.
00:47:36
Hell yeah. That's the one. Hell yeah. Go on. All right. Well, you know, black
00:47:42
technically. Yeah. Okay. Whatever. Yo, they got that in gray. It absorbs every You got that in gray.
00:47:47
It is all usually they do the worst like the mo more insane colors for the the
00:47:53
cheaper models. That's a very good point. So, I would imagine that these are the cheaper models because I don't see Google
00:48:00
selling a piss colored pro phone. That's a that's I can't wait. I'm pre-ordering that now.
00:48:07
So, you're thinking because these are bright colored phones, these are probably the base phones. And they appear to have triple cameras, therefore
00:48:14
triple cameras on the base phones. That would be my speculation. I think it's obvious. We've all learned that pro people are not allowed to have
00:48:20
fun colors. That's true. They probably going to have like a black and a white for the Pro and that'll be it. Hell usually.
00:48:27
Hell yeah. Yeah, I'm into that. You can't be a pro and have fun at the same time. No, Apple's proved that. Yes.
00:48:32
Well, you know, you just put a skin on it. That's all. Adam, did you say that there was a a piss colored pro phone before?
00:48:38
They've had a very similar to this. Yeah, I don't know if it was pro, but it was like a Yeah, six or 6A. One of
00:48:45
those. It was like a yellowish. It was lemon cello. Pro? No, not I don't think it was a pro. similarly
00:48:51
colored this like weird lemongrass. I think it was called lemongrass. Yeah, that sounds right. Yeah.
00:48:56
Yeah, but that was a regular model. Yeah, I do love it. Told you you I already got you.
00:49:03
Oh, wait. Sorry. I was looking at the Well, that was fast. I was looking at the old one. The old one, the lemongrass was nice. This one
00:49:09
is like It's like if piss fell into like a nuclear reactor.
00:49:14
Like if you just drank Gatorade for like 3 weeks. The pixels. also dehydrated.
00:49:21
The Pix looks like lemon cello. I don't know. Like I think it's awesome. I think it's a sick.
00:49:26
I kind of like it. Well, anyway, I assume that they're the the cheaper ones, which would which
00:49:31
would also say that there are three cameras on the cheap ones, which is anyone here going two cameras on the base.
00:49:36
Not anymore, I guess. It seems like fire colors for the pros. That would be really interesting. I mean, Michael Fischer will be happy.
00:49:43
I want I'm hoping three. If there's three, I think I'm going back to pixel, a base pixel. You should cuz I hate
00:49:49
Samsung's UI. My dude, I finally I like their UI ever since 1 UI7. I've had the weirdest
00:49:55
random things that just happened to my phone all the time and I'm so sick of it and they never happened on my other
00:50:01
problems. The Android 16 beta on my Pixel 9 Pro XL is so nice.
00:50:06
Even though it's still buggy and even though it still has terrible battery life, that look of what what are we
00:50:12
calling it again? Uh material expressive. Yeah, material 3 expressive. Awful name. whatever it's called. It's
00:50:18
it's it's nice. It's playful. It's but it's still clean. It's not too messy. Being an Android user is such a toxic
00:50:25
relationship. I've been having those same bugs, but I refuse to go back cuz it just looks so good. It just looks so good. So, I'm excited
00:50:32
for like a final finished clean bugless version of that on this new phone with a
00:50:38
TSMC design chip and amazing car silicon carbon battery and all this other stuff. That's totally not going to happen. But
00:50:44
yeah, I mean, it'll have the TSMC chip. I don't know about this hook and carbon battery. We'll see. We'll see. Yeah.
00:50:49
Okay. Well, if I could design my dream Pixel, it would just be this design,
00:50:54
that color, right? Give me Yeah, whatever. Give me yellow. I don't care. But give me the great cameras, obviously. Give me super
00:51:01
fast charging, silicon carbon battery, 6,000 mAh, and give me like Snapdragon 8 Elite performance. I don't care how you
00:51:07
do it. TSMC design, switch Qualcomm, whatever you got to do. Give me great performance, and I'm all in. And make it
00:51:12
a trifold. The display is already pretty good. Trifold not happening under attack.
00:51:18
Google has a lot of work to do, Jack. No headphone jack. Yeah, I'm there with the Pixel. I'm
00:51:23
right there. Well, I guess we'll see soon because the official event is August 20th. It is coming soon, which is a Wednesday. So, we'll be
00:51:30
recording on that day. Nice. All right, speaking of trivia,
00:51:37
I think that was the wrong button. Whoops, wrong way. Hold on. Thank you. There we go. Also, wait. We weren't
00:51:43
talking about Okay. All right. Trivia. So, here's a question for you.
00:51:49
Okay. I'm going to read a few quick short reviews of a phone, and you have to tell me what phone it is.
00:51:55
Who wrote the reviews? Boy, I will I will tell you. Oh, all right. from Wired positively noted its design, battery
00:52:01
life, performance, and stock Android OS, but disliked the camera and built-in speaker. And Gadget praised its build
00:52:09
quality, edge-to-edge display, performance, battery life, and clean build of Android 7.1.1,
00:52:15
but criticized the screen's brightness and lack of a headphone jack. IFIX,
00:52:20
I already know what the phone this is. Gave the phone a 1 out of 10 in terms of repairability because it is almost
00:52:25
impossible to open without freezing. and ultimately breaking it. Yeah, I definitely know what it says. Tech reviewer Marquez Brownley gave the
00:52:32
phone award. That's cheating. Don't do that. Don't do that. I know what it is. I already know. I already know what it
00:52:38
is. I also know what those We'll see. We'll see if you know what it is. There was a conversation about this this week on the internet.
00:52:43
I gave it an award. Yeah, I did. I think I remember what the award looks
00:52:48
like. What the award looks like. I really hope you guys got this one
00:52:54
wrong. Yeah, the trophy from that year was different, right? Can I get an extra point for what material the trophy was made out of?
00:53:00
No, because you ordered it. Yeah,
00:53:05
I'll give you an extra point if you want another lobster question. I would love another lobster question. All right, looks like it's a three. It's
00:53:11
a three question episode, guys. All right. Which of the following lobsters are found in US waters? Hit it, Adam.
00:53:18
The spiny lobster. It's so early. A, the spiny lobster. B,
00:53:26
the true lobster. C, the squat lobster. Or D, the musical furry lobster.
00:53:34
The musical furry lobster. The musical furry lobster. That's freaky.
00:53:40
What would make it freaky, right? Musical. Yo, wait. Why? Cuz it's furry. Cuz I sent you a furry crab the other day and said,
00:53:46
"Ain't this freaky?" Yeah, but is it a musical furry crab? Yeah. How can any be thing be furry when
00:53:52
it's underwater? Guys, don't Google that question. I was going to furry crab. No,
00:53:57
be careful. Guys, what do you think the heaviest lobster ever observed in US waters was? This is not for points.
00:54:03
30 lbs. It was 45 lb. I bet I was pretty close.
00:54:08
Yeah, we eating good. That's wild. All right. Well, anyway, we're going to
00:54:13
think about the answers to the trivia questions. We swear. And we'll be right back. [Music]
00:54:30
Welcome back. This is the last episode that you will be seeing this month, which means it's time for Crown or
00:54:37
Clown, our monthlyish, because we didn't do last month segment where uh basically
00:54:42
we talked about the best thing that happened in the tech sphere this month and the worst thing. So, we're going to go around talk about our things. Ellis
00:54:49
is going to kick us off with a horrible thing. I saw someone do something goofy this week. And uh you know, I like to think
00:54:55
of myself I like to think of this room as SeaWorld and myself as Shamu and America's billionaire class as all
00:55:02
sitting in the splash zone. And I I will take any opportunity I get to just
00:55:07
drench them in embarrassment. And today's goofball moneybag McDookie head is none other than OpenAI CEO Sam Alman
00:55:17
who in the most tonedeaf way possible announced that him and Oracle and
00:55:22
SoftBank will be increasing their uh power usage by 4.5
00:55:30
gawatt. That is the same amount of electricity as around 4 million US
00:55:35
households, which would increase the total number of households on the US grid by 3%. Sam, why do you think people
00:55:44
are stoked on this? That sounds How's the orb doing? Yeah. How's that or doing? Is it clown? More clowns first.
00:55:50
I have more clowns. Yeah, do a clown. Drop one. Olaf Gustoson. Who's the
00:55:55
Oh, duh. Uh the guy tried to get away with Escobar thing. He was going to federal prison now.
00:56:01
In his defense, he did get away with it for a little bit. Uh the FBI was on his ass for like five
00:56:09
years. And also he made like $300,000. That's not that much money. Yeah, he could have made more money at a
00:56:14
tech company. He could have got a job with Meta. That's like an $80,000.
00:56:20
He could have just worked remote for like five different tech companies at the same time. Yeah, but all that crime
00:56:26
bought him a three-bedroom home in Milwaukee. That's true. That's true. Did it? I don't know. That's what I would think.
00:56:32
I I would assume that is about $300,000. I bet that's more expensive.
00:56:37
Milwaukee. Adam's clown town. Andrew, I'm looking at four bedrooms for 250 here. Okay.
00:56:42
Milwaukeee's hot. Milwaukeee's Milhhati. Uh, all right. My clown is the Fujifilm
00:56:49
X half. Oh, wow. Yeah, that happened this month. You hated it? I didn't hate it. I just
00:56:54
think it's not worth. Also, wasn't that last month? Well, we didn't do last month. So, we
00:57:00
No, that wasn't last month because we talked about it this month. I'm saying. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we talked about Sony. Is that $5,000 Sony a camera?
00:57:07
Well, I need to see it first. RX1R. I need to RX1R3.
00:57:12
I need to use it before I say it's a crown product. It could be a crown product. Might be That's very fair of you. Thank you.
00:57:18
That's correct. Yeah. Fair guy. All right. We want to switch it to crowns. Okay. I have one that could be either. And I'll let you guys decide.
00:57:24
Ambiguous. Fortnite released Fantastic 4 skins.
00:57:31
Can we say that on the Yeah, I'm going. They're skins for a game. Fantastic 4.
00:57:36
Clown for the thing itself. Crown for that headline. For the I was going to the other way
00:57:42
around actually, but Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. If you want to play like Fantastic 4, I don't see what we're all laughing about.
00:57:49
Did those actually come out or was it a I thought it was like a a random everybody was waiting for them.
00:57:54
I don't want to tell. Yeah, do not Google that. Um my clown was that when Apple like
00:58:00
removed a bunch of the liquid glass and they made it glass, but they have now brought back a
00:58:06
lot of the liquid. Yeah, for those who haven't been following this liquid glass at WWDC
00:58:13
everywhere. Everything is clear, crystal clear. Can't read a damn thing. It's so
00:58:18
liquid. And then they ship this beta to everyone. The first developer beta. So, not everyone developer beta starts
00:58:25
getting tested by people. And uh yeah, it is a kind of a readability disaster, right? So, what
00:58:31
happens is in beta 2 when it comes out a few weeks later, people download it and they notice, oh, there's actually a lot
00:58:38
of liquid glass uh backtracking. There's a lot more frosted glass here. Was it beta 3 that they added?
00:58:44
And beta 3 even more. So beta 2 and beta 3, they walked back a lot of the liquid glass
00:58:50
to the point where it was actually very similar. I mean, obviously there's lots of still shiny reflective stuff, but a
00:58:55
lot of the like floating bubbly elements from before now had like a frosted background or had like a gradient behind
00:59:02
them to make them more readable. Then beta 4 comes out and Liquid Glass
00:59:07
is back. Yeah. And they've gone back and they've gotten rid of that gradient and they're going back to a lot of the liquidy stuff and they're still playing
00:59:13
with it and some of the like gauian blur elements happening along with the refraction around the edges. It's still
00:59:19
liquid glass, but they are for sure still tweaking it. Yeah. As of this recording. Um that was my my clown actually. My
00:59:27
crown. Oh, your crown. My crown is that uh liquid back. Nice. Nice. Yeah. My crown is the Fuji XF cuz I
00:59:35
loved using it. So why did you hate it then? Cuz it's so expensive. Oh yeah, but it's so fun.
00:59:41
I mean, I feel like we're just starting to see now that products are launching, we're just starting to see like tariff effects, right? I feel like the Sony and
00:59:47
the Fuji were both subject to that and that's like why they're so expensive. Everything is feeling drastically
00:59:54
overpriced now because of the like tariff chaos. And it's not even the fact that there like are tariffs in place cuz
00:59:59
that changes every freaking day. It's the fact that companies can't predict if there's going to be tariffs in place, so they have to price things higher.
01:00:05
Safety net. Yeah. It's like safety net. So, they're so sad that they have to price everything so high.
01:00:10
It's really make more money if there's no more tariffs. Um Yeah. Okay. So, my crown is that
01:00:20
uh the giant insurance company no longer owns our G DNA data and it was sold back
01:00:27
to Susan Wajiski's sister. Yeah, which is dope. Hopefully
01:00:32
she owned 23 and me. So 23 and me. Yeah, the the the old CEO of 23 and me has bought back the data.
01:00:39
So no longer hopefully will our genetic data be sold to insurance companies for at least a couple more years.
01:00:45
Allegedly. Allegedly. I'm sure that it will at some point, but the longer we can starve off
01:00:51
these companies from uh denying my insurance claims, the better. She's going to start an AI firm with it.
01:00:58
So, that was my first crown. My second crown is that we did a live show and it was cool. The live show was awesome. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We're the crown, baby.
01:01:06
Hold up. It's like in Mario Kart World when you're in first place and you suddenly have a little crown on. That's how I'm
01:01:12
feeling right now. You know what I'm saying? Wait, I want to change my crown. Donkey Kong Bonanza.
01:01:19
Yeah. So, um, we all agree the crown is us, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We are tech. We are technology.
01:01:27
Why are you thinking about this? Yeah, dude. Come on. Hey. All right, dude. We put a lot of work into that.
01:01:32
He's like, I don't know. That made a four, man. Yeah. I'm still thinking about glass. I'm so confused. You like that it's going back to not being able to be read.
01:01:39
I like it. No, I like that. I can't understand it. It's a bit sarcastic, but it's kind of just that like liquid, but if you follow
01:01:46
this on online on Twitter and threads, like people are like rooting for it to be back and then there are other people
01:01:51
who are like, "This is terrible." So, it's causing so much like commentary. It's one of the weird
01:01:57
instances of us clearly seeing Apple listening to the internet and feedback that they've gotten, which is maybe
01:02:03
that's kind of nice, but it is clearly affecting the way it looks. Nice and a sign of the times that like
01:02:10
is Apple scared a little bit. Yeah, I don't mind that. Like we can frame it
01:02:15
so many different ways. Like if any other company goes and comes out with a software that looks a little bit janky and we're like, "Wa, this is bad." And
01:02:20
then through three beta updates in 3 weeks it suddenly looks way better, we'd all be like, "Oh, nice. they're actually
01:02:25
listening to us. But if it's Apple, it's like, "Oh, they're scared." Or or maybe they're It kind of we just frame it.
01:02:31
The reason is because Apple's the company that always said, "You don't know what you want. We're going to show you." And then now they're like
01:02:36
listening to people on Twitter, which is the worst possible thing to do. This is actually like the fact that they have that they they backtracked on it at
01:02:43
first and then people cuz this is like the the perfect encapsulation of the internet, right? They announce
01:02:49
something, everyone's like, "It's garbage. It's horrible. It's impossible." So that they're like, "Oh,
01:02:54
okay." Mixed in with legit concerns. Change it back to like frost it. And then everyone's like, "What the heck?
01:03:00
Why did you change it?" I was like, "Cuz you told me to." Cuz it's different. It's I think the the fallacy that I find online is uh because
01:03:07
it's coming from the same website. We assume it's all the same people, but it's two different loud groups of people. So there's one really loud group
01:03:13
that's like, "I hate everything you do, and I just I saw this thing you came out with, and it sucks, so I'm going to be really loud about how much it sucks."
01:03:19
And then they Yeah. Well, that group's on Twitter and then they go back and they change it and they frost it and now it's like less
01:03:26
liquidy but more readable. And then the other loud group on Twitter is like, "Why are you listening to that other loud group? Like, it was fine. You spent
01:03:32
all these years developing this crazy new thing and you're just going to listen to a week of tweets and change it back. You're an idiot. What are you
01:03:38
doing? So now you're listening to all these loud people on Twitter again." And so you're flip-flopping now and it's
01:03:43
just a mess. They're gonna make up their There was a comment on our YouTube channel a couple weeks ago that said, "This podcast is like listening to a
01:03:50
bunch of uh a bunch of Apple fanboys that hate Apple." And I was like, "So, we're doing our job."
01:03:56
And that's basically the encapsulation of Twitter. Yeah. Yeah. Leave Apple alone. Just leave them alone.
01:04:01
Just leave them alone. Leave my sweet child alone. Um, question for you. Do you think that
01:04:07
So, here's my conspiracy brain going. I wonder how much of this is just to keep
01:04:13
people excited talking about it because in my head the design of the new OS has
01:04:20
probably been done for like a year. Like I don't know if they're actually going back and forth changing things
01:04:25
this quickly for something that's going to drop to a billion phones, you know? It is. Yeah. Yeah.
01:04:31
Here's the thing. It is changing. like they're shipping these betas and they
01:04:36
are actually shipping to everyone in the in the developer community these different versions of it. And I guess if
01:04:44
there's a conspiracy world where they have these ready to go to keep people talking about how liquidy it's going to
01:04:51
be to keep them on the internet like talking about it that that could be interesting. But I just think the whole
01:04:56
point of the beta is to ship it to the people who will test it and then take
01:05:02
the feedback for how well it works, how buggy it is, how legible it's going to be, and then ship another beta that's
01:05:07
better and then take more feedback and ship another beta that's better. And this is them probably working really hard to try to find a balance between
01:05:15
all the liquid that they showed and all the concerns that the beta testers have found and trying to land somewhere in
01:05:22
the middle at a reasonable maybe iconic maybe they ditch this in
01:05:28
two years but a liquidy glassy look that defines their next couple years of software.
01:05:34
iOS 26 already iconic already iconic question mark. Maybe.
01:05:39
Maybe. I don't regret that title one bit, by the way. So, yeah. Anyway, haters.
01:05:45
All right. Ready? All right. So, clown trivia. Oh, what is it?
01:05:50
Do we have to agree? Yeah. Sam.
01:05:56
Yeah, sure. Yeah.
01:06:05
What color is that underwater freak's blood? Oh, is that the first one? Yeah, the first question.
01:06:10
Is it really not what I think it is? I think we're about to get three wrong answers because all of you are
01:06:16
underestimating how freaky this guy is. I just want to say that when I thought I was remembering that I just learned
01:06:22
this. I actually had just Googled octopus blood yesterday. So, I'm I'm now back to
01:06:28
square one of just What would the freakiest color be? Probably clear. Lemon cello.
01:06:34
That new color that they just like discovered by like beaming lasers in people's eyes.
01:06:39
All right, flip these boards, guys. All right, we all have different colors.
01:06:45
Say it. Okay. Who? Marquez first. I said green.
01:06:50
I said blue. I said yellow. But Andrew,
01:06:55
is it purple? You did say the freakiest color would be clear, which is the correct answer. These dudes
01:07:02
are freaks. Is this clear a color? Wow. Oh my god. You're really gonna hit me with that?
01:07:07
You're really gonna hit me with that right now? I don't think that's even a color. Nobody got points. What should I have said? What? What?
01:07:13
What? What? What Apple design is what does it look like? They bleed liquid. You ask what does a lobster's blood look
01:07:20
like inside its body? What kind of question is that? This is a family show. You should have phrased it. What do
01:07:26
lobsters and iOS 26 beta 4 have in common? Yeah. Lemonella. What What is the opacity slider of
01:07:33
lobster blood set at 2? Also, crabs also have typically gray or colorless before binding.
01:07:40
Colorless. I'm not letting this go, bro. They're listless. Then it's not a color. Crabs represent order.
01:07:46
Lobsters represent chaos. Adam, please read the score.
01:07:52
The score. Marquez with 32. Andrew with 22. Are you
01:07:58
giving him that point for saying clear? No. Um, okay. So, now 22. David with 36.
01:08:03
Dang. Nice Swifty reference. Uh, okay. Question. 36. Dang.
01:08:09
Yeah. Let's go. This is it. These are the scores that you guys are going into the trivia extravaganza with, by the way. So, no
01:08:15
pressure. Okay. Do you want me to reread the reviews or do you just want to guess? No, I know what it is. You know what it is? Yeah. Okay.
01:08:20
Well, actually, no. Do re do reread it for the audience. Okay. Okay. So Wired said positively
01:08:25
noted its design, battery life, and performance and stock Android OS, but disliked the camera and builtin speaker.
01:08:32
Wait, stock Android OS. Stock Android OS. Oh no. And Gadget praised its build quality,
01:08:37
edgetoedge display, performance, battery life, and clean build of Android 7.1.1, but criticized the screen's brightness,
01:08:43
and the lack of a headphone jack. iFixit gave the phone a one out of 10 in terms of repairability because it's almost
01:08:50
impossible to open without freezing and ultimately breaking it. And then you guys cut me off before Marquez Brown
01:08:56
leaves, but I'm not going to say it because I might give it away. I gave it an award. 7.1
01:09:01
7.1.1 These are all like summarized stock
01:09:06
Android wiki by the way. Dang, I got all excited. On it on the wiki. On the wiki. Yeah, it says all this
01:09:12
on the wik. My awards on the wiki. Yeah. Wow. Yep. It's the last one, but it is there. Hey,
01:09:18
so like the Wikipedia page for this phone. Yes, exactly. Okay. All right. What's the title of that Wikipedia page?
01:09:24
Read the URL today. Read the URL real quick. Just the HTTP. Oh,
01:09:30
did I ask a question? I'll just argue about something after. Okay. Flip it and read.
01:09:35
What do we got? Oh, I can't see Marquez. So, Marquez, what did you say?
01:09:40
I said the essential PH1. Andrew, the essential PH1.
01:09:46
Correct. You both get it. David, what did you say? Is that really stock Android? That's what I'm just reading the
01:09:51
reviews, man. David, what did what did you say? I essentially said something similar.
01:10:00
I read your board, David. You had a Nexus up there, didn't you? Yeah, cuz he said stocking. At first, I
01:10:06
thought this was going to be the um Galaxy S6, but I'm pretty sure the award was like a
01:10:11
green marble. Headphone jack. Yes, guys. More importantly, which of the following lobsters live in US waters?
01:10:19
Let's go. A the spiny lobster. B the true lobster, C the squat lobster, or D
01:10:26
the musical furry lobster. Again, A USA real US waters. US waters.
01:10:32
US territorial waters. A spiny lobster. B. True Lobster. C. Squat lobster. D.
01:10:37
The musical furry lobster. Rock lobster. Rock lobster. Love that song.
01:10:44
Classic. Classic. All right, let's hear it, boys. In the cold waters of Maine, we all got
01:10:49
the answer. Spiny lobster. That is correct. However, the true lobster, it was also a correct answer. I
01:10:55
gave you a 50% chance cuz aren't I so kind. Is a squat lobster a real lobster?
01:11:02
Mhm. Those are all real lobsters. They just don't live in the Well, no. I just thought it was Oh, that's a question. The musical furry
01:11:08
lobster is up for debate whether it's a real lobster. It is in the same family
01:11:13
as lobsters, but it is not in the same sub. What part is up for debate? So, it's like limes.
01:11:19
Like limes. So, like time for this like like what about limes?
01:11:25
What we eat? I really I'm going to Okay, we we're at a time crunch, so we're going to back lemons.
01:11:30
The limes we eat in the US. Yeah. Right. Whether those are actually limes or not
01:11:36
is up for debate because that lime is a crossbreed between a Persian lime
01:11:41
or Yeah. a Persian lime and a lemon. And that's why they don't have seeds.
01:11:46
Oh, that's kind of dope. But they're not they're not like limes like like if you were to go to prehistoric era, you would not see those
01:11:54
colloquially limes. They're what we know of as they're what we most commonly sell in the US as limes because they're a
01:11:59
little less sour, they're a little sweeter, and they have a longer shelf life when in stores. And so the lobster
01:12:05
So this lobster is like the same type beat where it's like technically it it shares enough genetic information with a
01:12:10
classical lobster that it's like this is the lobster, but it also has some funny business
01:12:15
thrown in there. Yeah, that's kind of the deep sea. Squat lobster is not a lobster. What is it? It's an a neora. It's more closely
01:12:23
resembling a hermit crab. What's a hermit crab? A crab. It's not a crab. Although, it's very
01:12:29
confusing and we definitely don't have time for this, but Okay. Yes. I just remember reading a lot about it during the whole lobster crab thing.
01:12:35
One last point. Uh the music the scientific name for the musical furry lobster is Palipus Magnificus.
01:12:43
That's awesome. Which, by the way, sounds like Harry Potter. Magnificent. So, they can't be freaky if
01:12:49
they're magnificent, you know, or both, I guess. I just want to say we keep saying we don't have time for this. All
01:12:55
right. That's freaky and magnificent. That's true. Guys, can we Hey, thanks for watching. Thanks for listening. This has been a fantastic
01:13:01
underwater episode of the Waveform Podcast and uh and Crown or Clown. We'll be back very soon with a trivia
01:13:08
extravaganis.

01:13:36
I also just saw a picture of a hermit crab and without the shell and it's the grossest thing I've ever seen.
