Flip vs Fold: Why Not Both?

March 28, 2025 / 01:46:55

This episode of the Waveform Podcast covers topics including the new USB Type-C AirPods Max, a mixed reality headset, and the Huawei Flipfold phone. Hosts Marquez, Andrew, and David discuss the recent updates in tech, including a review of the GFX100 RF camera and the implications of lossless audio for AirPods Max.

Marquez shares a hot take on the AirPods Max, stating that only the USB Type-C version supports lossless audio when connected via cable. He questions the necessity of this feature for most users, suggesting that many cannot discern the difference between lossless and compressed audio.

David reviews the GFX100 RF camera, highlighting its unique features such as an aspect ratio dial that emulates old film cameras. He discusses its target audience of film photographers and street photographers, emphasizing its medium format sensor and potential for cropping images post-capture.

The hosts also talk about the Huawei Flipfold phone, which combines elements of both flip and foldable designs. They discuss its unique form factor and the potential market for such devices.

Finally, the episode concludes with the Crown and Clown segment, where the hosts reflect on the best and worst tech news of the month, including the viral Saratoga water video and the implications of 23andMe's bankruptcy.

I have a hot take that's going to burn this whole podcast down. It's gonna be great. That's coming up or Yep, it's
00:00:06
coming up. Should we start this with that hot take? Sure. Only the USB type-C AirPods Max get it while the cable is
00:00:13
attached. Mhm. Yeah. And so obviously, okay, so the Lightning one doesn't support it. Most of the AirPods Max out
00:00:18
there are the Lightning One, but okay. These $550 headphones finally got lossless audio.
00:00:25
Oh boy. Update my LinkedIn profile. My hot take. Currently looking for it.
00:00:32
[Music] What is up people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the
00:00:38
Waveform Podcast. We're your hosts. I'm Marquez. I'm Andrew. And I'm David. We're all back in the same room to talk about a variety of things. A true grabag
00:00:47
of chaotic things in tech that have happened in the last week. Everything from a mixed reality headset to a weird
00:00:52
backwards foldable to a massive AirPods Max update out of nowhere to dubdub
00:00:58
dates to maybe another folding phone coming soon. Mhm. It's all here. And then of course we'll end with our Crown
00:01:04
Crown or Clown and Clown G. Crown and Clown cuz we're doing both. Right. Right. Which is, you know, perfect for
00:01:10
the end of the month. Yes. Yeah. But first, can I start with a video shout out? Okay. Okay. We do this every once
00:01:16
in a while. while we do some content. But there is this video this week called I Built a PlayStation, which for audio
00:01:24
listeners and probably even video listeners right now, that probably sounds really confusing. It is spelled P
00:01:29
L A Y S T A C E A N
00:01:35
Crustation. Like crustation. It is by someone named Ginger of Oz. And they
00:01:40
built a PS1 that looks like a crab. That is the easiest way I can describe this,
00:01:47
but it is incredible. Yeah. You know that you know how everything eventually
00:01:52
So there's a thing, we talked about this on a a podcast long ago on a podcast very far away. There is a a theory in
00:02:00
science where everything eventually turns into a crab and it's called caronization. Um the PlayStation has had
00:02:05
its time. Speedruns directly to crab. Finally evolved into the crab. So, this
00:02:11
is a PS1 O ne, not the first PlayStation, but they made like a more a smaller uh
00:02:18
adaptation of it later on. So, it's a little more um like curved. And I guess there was an art project someone made
00:02:25
online and this Ginger of Oz guy decided to 3D render it and model it and print
00:02:30
it. Um, it's great. The video is really well done. It shows how he did all the things. This has a working disc tray,
00:02:36
working controller ports. The claws in the front of it have two working PS1 controllers with the sticks and Rh RNL
00:02:44
buttons on top of it. Um, it's incredible and it totally works and I really think you should go watch the
00:02:50
video. We'll link it in the show notes. Um, it's a work of art though. Big meaty claws. Big meaty claws. Very cool. It's
00:02:57
also like the claws are attached so if you use that as a controller, you have to play within 6 in of the actual console.
00:03:04
Holding hands with the crab. holding hands with the crabs while it's like staring you in the face. Do they actually work? Yeah, everything works.
00:03:10
It's all like bendable. Like all of these arms rotate and everything. It's really well done. That's epic. Um, you
00:03:16
know what's funny? When I opened this dock and I saw that picture, it did not register that it was a PlayStation, I
00:03:22
was just like, "Someone has like a toy crab. That's cool." I was laughing cuz Marquez was like, "We have a chaotic episode." And just on my screen is a
00:03:28
crab PlayStation sitting in the document. Um, one other video that came
00:03:34
out in case you haven't seen was from a little creator we know as David Al. Wow. Literally
00:03:41
got him. Never mind. Don't watch it. He's too small. Stutter. Yeah. Sorry, we don't
00:03:48
punch down around here. Yeah. No, you released a GFX 100 RF review. I did. I
00:03:54
did. Um, do you want to give us a Wow. a little TL a big TLDDR. big TLDDR. Um,
00:04:01
and then everyone else can go watch it if they're interested. Cool. Thank you for sharing that. Um, yeah. So, I made a
00:04:06
camera video. It is the GFX100 RF, which is a rangefinder style fixed lens medium
00:04:14
format camera. That is the official meaning of RF. Rangefinder style fixed
00:04:20
lens. Mhm. Um, very Japanese. Very Japanese. But basically, it is a uh
00:04:25
fixed lens medium format digital camera, which we haven't really seen before. There is one from Phase 1 that is
00:04:32
horrible and cost $63,000. I remember Phase One. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. People kind
00:04:38
of universally say that you should never buy that. But the RF is interesting because if you
00:04:44
knew about the X100 series, which was very popular for many years, and then the X1006 came out, we have a video on
00:04:49
the studio channel about it. Um, this is like a medium format version of that camera. It looks very similar. It has a
00:04:56
lot it has a few extra features, but the overall consensus is
00:05:01
that I think that this camera is sort of for two groups of people. It is for
00:05:06
existing film photographers or people that used to shoot film because it has this really cool extra feature called an
00:05:12
aspect ratio dial that is on the back of the camera that emulates a bunch of the
00:05:17
old aspect ratios of film cameras. So it has like 645, 6x7, 65 x 24, 6x7. Does
00:05:24
not have 6x 24 cuz Fuji was not insane enough to make that. But yeah, it's super cool. I think
00:05:30
the two groups of people that it's sort of for are street photographers because the whole basically what the camera is,
00:05:37
it's a medium format 100 megapixel sensor that has a large wide lens
00:05:44
mounted to it. Well, not large, it has a wide lens mounted to it. So, it's kind of like take the photo in general and
00:05:49
then reframe crop later. Yeah, crop later. So, either either you're a film photographer who you want to use the
00:05:55
aspect ratio dial to like compose in camera and then you take the photo in
00:06:00
the same aspect ratio that you would take a film photo or you're like a street photographer who wants to use it
00:06:07
to run around taking photos of things on the street or, you know, street work and
00:06:12
then also crop later and still have a lot of resolution. So yeah, it is uh
00:06:18
$4,900. Released a little video about it. Whenever you do a camera video, I'm like, "That thing costs too much." I'm
00:06:25
not even remotely close to the person. It's Yeah, it's it's interesting. It's the cheapest medium format camera that
00:06:31
Fujifilm sells. It's pretty much the cheapest medium format digital camera on the market that you can buy new. Um its
00:06:39
biggest competition is the Leica Q3. And the reason for that is that it's basically the only other fixed lens
00:06:46
digital camera that is full-frame or larger. Um, the two things that people are yelling at each other about on the
00:06:53
internet about this because of course people just need to argue about something. Fair. That's why we get views on this podcast. Yeah. Uh the RF does
00:07:00
not have image stabilization and the lens is f4 and a lot of people well when I I
00:07:08
went to Utah to use it and it was a little bit difficult when the light got low because I like to shoot at blue hour
00:07:15
which is the hour after golden hour where it starts to get darker and without a wider aperture you definitely
00:07:21
have to push the ISO up a little bit. You can just change it to black and white white mode if you want to do that and it looks kind of fine. Film grain.
00:07:28
Yeah. And then I think that people have just gotten really used to optical image stabilization. Uh but the body of this
00:07:34
camera is only a little bit bigger than the X1006, which is an APS-C camera. So the
00:07:40
fact that they were able to fit a sensor way bigger in there. I talked to some people uh who designed the camera um
00:07:46
because I flew to Prague, bought some plane tickets, bought some hotels, flew to Prague so I can talk to the Fujifilm
00:07:52
team that worked on the camera and they said that if they had even made it f3.5, the mount would have been bigger
00:07:58
than the size of the body. So if that is true, I understand why it's f4. Um but I
00:08:05
think this is for a very specific group of people and anyway, I made a video about it. Uh, the video talks about
00:08:12
aspect ratios and why the film aspect ratios are the way they are and it's on
00:08:17
my YouTube channel. I have a question for you. Yeah. How high do you think you could push the ISO and it's still be is
00:08:23
usable? That's kind of hard. I mean, a lot of people will say now that the AI
00:08:28
noise removal has gotten so good, like there's a Lightroom AI noise removal tool that's really good. I think you
00:08:34
could try a lot of those. Um, I shot a fairly long exposure shot at 4,000 ISO
00:08:41
and it was a little bit muddy. So, I would say the highest I would push it is like 2500 max unless you're okay with it
00:08:49
being grainy. But again, if you shoot in black and white, black and white stuff is already kind of grainy. So, if you
00:08:55
Also, 2500 is really good. 25 is pretty good. But, you know, so we also just talked about Sony cameras recently. Oh,
00:09:01
yeah. Yeah. Yeah. One thing, um, Fuji is releasing a they're going to be releasing a like red competitor, um, I
00:09:09
think later this year or early next year called the Fujifilm Eterna. That is a box camera. I'll be the judge of that.
00:09:15
Well, it is a sweet name already. Props for the name. Eterna is their old film stock, by the way. Okay. Um, yeah,
00:09:22
actual film stock. Uh, it has dual native ISO and I really I think it would have been awesome if they put dual
00:09:28
native ISO in this camera because because it's using the exact same sensor. So, it would have been really
00:09:34
cool if they had put dual native ISO in this camera because it would have helped with those kind of things. But, uh, yeah, people on the internet got very
00:09:40
angry at each other about this this stuff because the Q3 has optical image stabilization and a F1.7 lens. This lens
00:09:49
is quite a bit slower and no OIS, but it has a lot of other features. So, they're very different cameras. It's just that
00:09:55
because they're the only two fixed lens digital cameras that are full-frame or
00:10:00
bigger, people lump them into the same category compared with each other. Yeah. Also, the Q3 is more expensive. Yeah,
00:10:07
the Q3 is $1,400 more. I have a banger follow-up video for you. Okay. Ready?
00:10:12
GFX100 RF versus iPhone 16 Pro Max. Oo.
00:10:18
If you want to get people in the internet world up, that's one way to do it for sure. Yeah. No. Anyway, you got
00:10:23
to do a drop test. So, that's on my YouTube channel. I had many existential crises about whether or
00:10:29
not to put it on my channel or just start a camera channel. Uh, I think you made the right choice. I think I made the wrong choice. Really? We can get
00:10:35
into that another day. Yeah, we can. We can. Well, speaking of products designed
00:10:41
for particularly niche demographics, uh Huawei Huawei, thank you.
00:10:48
Well, I think a 100 megapixel $5,000 medium format camera is Oh, I mean this I mean this phone. Yeah. Oh, you're in
00:10:54
the niche for sure. But it is a niche. Uh Huawei Pur X gets unveiled shown off.
00:11:02
Um it's okay. So, you know how we have like hamburger phones and hot dog phones, right? Yeah. So, we have like
00:11:08
folds that go out like that and then flips like that. What if you took a phone that's shaped on the outside like
00:11:14
a flip but folds out like a fold.
00:11:20
This is This is really hard to describe, right? A hot burger or a ham dog kind of
00:11:25
thing. Exactly. This is like cat dog, right? Yes. This is the cat dog phone. It's this phone is so simple and so hard
00:11:33
to explain for audio listeners at the same time because what it is essentially is a a Samsung flip or a Moto Razor, but
00:11:41
when you're looking at it closed, rotate it 90 degrees. So the hinge is now on your left like a book. Yeah. But then
00:11:47
when you open it, you have to then rotate it another 90 degrees to kind of use it as a standard portrait version if
00:11:54
you want to use it as a port like a portrait tablet. Yeah. Yeah. It felt like Huawei was at their meeting and said, you know, we've seen all these
00:12:00
foldables, flips, fold, like hot dog versus hamburger. How do we innovate? And they just did the like porcel meme
00:12:07
and like cheering at everyone and they're like, "We did it. Here's both in one." This feels like something LG would
00:12:13
do. Like they're picking up where LG left off of like, "Hey, no one's done that swivellly thing yet, have they?"
00:12:19
Okay. Yeah, now we are. So, here's the Yeah, the Huawei Flipfold. Well, the interesting thing about Huawei is that
00:12:24
they have never really made a fold that looks like other folds because they were the ones that put the screen on the
00:12:30
outside first when the Galaxy Fold was doing it folding in internally and then everybody else started doing that and
00:12:35
then they made the Well, nobody nobody had the outside screen like the Oh, sorry.
00:12:42
I'm think I'm thinking of their flipping phone. They had a flip phone that looks exactly like Samsung. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They had that. And they do have a
00:12:48
regular folding phone. But they the first No, but that No, but that folding phone has the screen on the outside. No,
00:12:55
but then they also have this one. Oh, yeah. The MX 2. It's just a regular folding phone. But then So, they made
00:13:00
the weird one. And then they made the trifold. Mhm. Huawei. Nobody has yet copied, but Samsung inferred at Galaxy
00:13:07
that they were working on one. Big LG vibes. And now they're making Yeah. It's like just trying stuff. I wonder if
00:13:14
Huawei and LG are anagrams. LG, I don't think so. But yeah, no, they
00:13:21
are they're definitely picking up where they left off. I think it's an interesting idea. It's still a smallish
00:13:26
phone. It's a 6.3 in phone when you open it. So, you know how some of them are like kind of gigantic, 6.7, 6.8, 6.3
00:13:31
open. So, it's not as gigantic. So, I feel like there could be a smaller crowd that's into this idea. And the weird
00:13:38
thing about the size is that 6.3 but with a different aspect ratio because it's wider than most phones. It's 16x10
00:13:46
on the interior screen. Um, and I think it's interesting cuz it's smaller
00:13:51
opened, but then it's really compact when it's closed. And it's almost asking you to like use it. Use it a lot closed
00:13:58
if you're okay with a really small screen or I shouldn't even say really small screen. It's bigger screen than
00:14:03
like a I think it's a bigger screen than a flip when it's closed. But because where it's rotated, it feels more
00:14:08
portrait style. Totally. Um, and I think that's kind of cool. This I think this wants you to kind of use it half and
00:14:15
half of closed. This wants you to use it closed more than like a flip or a razor is my guess. Yeah, because it turns into
00:14:20
like the iPad mini. I think it's too small to use it closed very much. I
00:14:25
think it's similar to the Samsung situation and the Razer. You have a big screen on the outside, but you're not
00:14:31
really meant to use it on the outside that much. It's more just like I want to read an entire notification without it
00:14:37
being cropped. I want to see like I might play a game on the outside once in a while. That's really kind of a niche
00:14:43
thing. Okay. So, counterpoint. Yeah. Uh clicks uh Michael Fischer's brand um
00:14:51
disclosure. Our friend. Yeah. Slashmy ex- roommate.
00:14:56
Not my ex's roommate, but my ex- roommate. Mhm. Um he just released they just released clicks for razor and it
00:15:05
uses the razor closed and then you use the keyboard and you use the whole phone
00:15:10
closed. Yeah. So it's like this. That's even more niche. Yes. Oh yeah. Because
00:15:18
you attach a keyboard to it. Um but I mean you can do everything that
00:15:24
you can do when the phone's open. You know what I mean? Uh yeah. Except watch a widescreen video. But that's why you
00:15:30
open it. Turn it sideways. Yeah, I'd say that. Like this is I feel like that's enough to answer a text message is
00:15:35
enough to like if you're doing walking directions in Google Maps, I probably just want the small one that I can throw
00:15:40
in my pocket super easily. Totally. I don't know. The other thing is when you open it, it's already in landscape
00:15:47
orientation. So if you're if you start a video while it's closed, you just open it. You don't even have to turn it. That
00:15:52
is probably the best part. Book style. I like that. I think the best part of this is Huawei is getting a bunch of news
00:15:58
coverage because they were just like, "Let's take a flip and rotate it 90° and now they've got an entire news." Someone
00:16:04
had to do it first. Someone had to think of it. Nobody else did it. Brilliant. Also, the main cameras are facing you.
00:16:10
So, it's like built for selfies. It's fire. Triple camera up top. So,
00:16:15
it's going to start off as China only. It's going to be the equivalent of about $1,000 similar to like Razer and ZFlip.
00:16:21
And it's probably not going to show up in the US anytime soon, but we get to read articles about it and admire it
00:16:26
from here. Yeah. It also seems like if you want to take pictures of things that are not your face, you have to open it.
00:16:33
Yes, exactly. Interesting. I mean, similar minor downside.
00:16:38
Minor downside giant viewfinder. It also will be the first phone to ship with Harmony Intelligence, which is Huawei's
00:16:45
AI assistant powered by Deepseek. Mhm. Or they they're calling it their own in-house AI model powered by DeepSeek or
00:16:52
something like that. That is an oxymoron. I forget the exact I'm sure the exact phrasing is in here. Do you
00:16:58
guys think that China Deepseek is like a hyped brand because so much global so
00:17:05
hard for us to know enhanced by Deepseek in-house model enhanced in-house Pangu
00:17:11
model. Yeah. Yeah. It's Deepseek. It's like if you are going to say in-house model enhanced by Deepseek, you are by
00:17:18
nature of emphasizing one of those basically discarding the other. If you're going to tell us it's our in-house model. Oh, I'm supposed to be
00:17:25
very impressed by that. Enhanced by Deepseek. Oh, okay. So, so it's not that's kind of like how Siri is.
00:17:32
It's like, okay, I I'm either impressed by one or the other, not both. But you can pick your choice. Siri can do basic
00:17:38
stuff, but when you need really hot tasks, we offload that to chat GPT.
00:17:43
Well, right now Siri can't do those basic things either. Maybe not till next year. That's true. Um, I have one other
00:17:50
announcement and I want to preface this, not announcement. Yeah. What are you
00:17:55
about to say? Um, I'm prefacing this by saying I'm 99% sure this is real, but
00:18:02
I'm not completely sure this is real. and I'll explain why and you guys can help me figure this out. All right, so
00:18:09
there's a bunch of posts and very few news articles about something called Vivo Vision, which is the company Vivo.
00:18:16
We all know they're a phone manufacturing company. They have done a lot of crazy things in the past. Were
00:18:23
they not the first people to do like the under fingerprint under years ago used to be the ones like innovating a lot of
00:18:29
stuff that we tested before we saw them in like every other phone. But Vivo Vision is their mixed reality headset
00:18:35
that was showcased um at a conference in China last week allegedly.
00:18:42
I'm okay. So the re the first time I saw this was on a post on threads and the video which I thought I linked in here.
00:18:50
Let me find the video so you can see. It has this like very
00:18:55
uh wonky sketchy effect on it that looks like it's AI enhanced really bad. Look
00:19:03
at the bottom of the screen. The whole bottom is just glitching out and the Vivo Vision text is like
00:19:10
freaking out and looks super AI, but everything else looks totally fine, right? Yeah. Why? Okay. It looks like
00:19:18
someone shot the video in like 16 by8 and someone said at the last second, you
00:19:23
need this video to be 16 by10 and so they had to AI extend the bottom 500
00:19:29
pixels of the video to be taller. So the bottom of the entire video looks like it's glitching out and AI enhanced which
00:19:36
includes a lot of the text but that's kind of weird. So I when I saw this there there are not very many news
00:19:43
articles. The only website that I frequently visit that posted about this was GSM Arena, which I generally trust.
00:19:48
Um, Forbes has an article about Forbes has one. Forbes has one. They all show the same two images. Yeah. Um, but so I
00:19:55
I reached out to a different Android reporter that I know and I was like, "Have you heard about this?" He said, "No." And I showed him the video and
00:20:01
he's like, "I think there was a watermark on this." And that's an AI watermark removal probably from some
00:20:07
Chinese publication. and whatever this video from is just the only one we can see not on one of those websites trying
00:20:13
to remove that. So sad that someone was like, I want to not attribute this publication so badly that I'm going to
00:20:20
mess up the video and make people think it's fake. Um, but there's it's I think
00:20:27
that I think it's real ultimately and we need to talk about how it looks because there's not a lot of information on it.
00:20:33
But this is this is like if a mole is party in the front, business in the back. This is Apple Vision Pro in the
00:20:40
front, Project Muhan in the back in or sorry, Vision Pro in the back, Muhan in the front. It is the exact same knit
00:20:48
band and battery connector and battery of a Vision Pro. Yeah. And then the
00:20:53
front glass. The front it looks like a a higher quality material version of Muhan
00:20:58
where it has like a ve a much bigger face shield or like face padding. Yeah. And kind of thin down actual like screen
00:21:05
and sensors and stuff. But yeah, this image has been saved so many times. It's
00:21:11
just so compressed. Exactly. Yeah. It's like this one image, one or two images on every single website and then this AI
00:21:18
video floating around 25 second orbit of this thing. It looks Yeah, it looks kind
00:21:24
of like Vivo saw the Vision Pro and went, "All right, we're doing our own headset heavily inspired by the Vision
00:21:30
Pro." Yeah, not shocking. I definitely So, this is probably going to run
00:21:36
Android XR is my guess or they're going to do their own software. But when I did that Android XR video, it was kind of
00:21:42
along the lines of what do all the non-invision pro headsets run? And if
00:21:47
you run if you're a meta and you have your own Horizon OS, that's cool. If you're not, maybe you just use Google's
00:21:54
new OS because it's going to work with everything. And so, this is probably going to run uh that and we'll see when
00:22:00
it eventually comes out, maybe. I find it very funny that Meta was getting so hyped about making Horizon OS like the
00:22:07
OS for headsets. Yeah. And just nobody cared. Did anyone else use it? I think
00:22:14
there may have been a Lenovo or there were companies that announced they were going to use it. I
00:22:20
don't know if any actually came out. Yeah. But they wanted to make the OS for, you know, the metaverse like Yeah.
00:22:29
or or these VR headsets. And I don't know if anyone actually took them up on that. So So we'll see what this ends up.
00:22:34
I'm gonna guess it's it's uh the Google one. Yeah, I think so. Android. It's Android XR. So all I all we really know
00:22:41
outside of this is that it was at this conference um the Bow Forum. Is that how
00:22:46
you pronounce that? I don't know how to pronounce B O um forum. Uh and looks like a business
00:22:53
conference. So like my guess is like Vivo wanted to show off like look what we can make. It looks like they have like the video of it is in this little
00:22:59
Vivo booth which they apparently also uh showed off 6G advancements and the X200 Ultra
00:23:07
smartphone. Oh god, here we know whether or not this is like real or just them saying look we can make something just
00:23:14
like the vision. That would be my guess. This might not be because it's also called Vivo Vision which is sort of an
00:23:19
immediate like hey we can do manufacturing exactly the same as Apple concept. Yeah, this is everything short
00:23:26
of concept without having pump our stock. The closest information I found on this is that there's a prototype
00:23:32
anticipated mid to 2025. A protoype. A prototype. Okay. Can we break down that sentence? Yes.
00:23:40
What is a prototype? A prototype is a pre-release not ready for the public yet version of something that's that's like
00:23:46
to show it. A what was the sentence? A prototype. Okay. A unit was present at the Vivo booth to showcase the design
00:23:53
while the prototype is anticipated to launch in mid 2025. The prototype is
00:24:00
anticipated mid 2025. Maybe allegedly. So by mid 2025, but nobody knows that it
00:24:06
really took place. We will have maybe a prototype announcement. Announce
00:24:11
prototypes. Prototypes don't always come out either. Like it's just like they usually don't end up looking like the
00:24:17
prototype. That said, this doesn't seem too farfetched though because Vivo loves to do stuff like this. Yeah. And if
00:24:23
Google's really going to be pushing Android XR and like Muhan and everything, like you would want to have something ready to go for when they
00:24:30
announce that. So, it makes sense. It does make sense. I blame all this prototype stuff on the video game
00:24:37
industry because they just started pushing alpha releases of games, realized they could make money and never
00:24:42
have to update them. And now everyone else is like, why don't we just release stuff that's broken and blame it on the
00:24:48
people paying for it. That's true. I found the press release, so it is definitely real. It's definitely from
00:24:53
Vivo. And it is definitely a prototype. This is like There are more articles up right now than when I wrote this this
00:24:59
morning. So it seems like it's more That's wild. Dang. Yeah, it looks nice.
00:25:05
It does look cool. Does look cool. I mean, I'm not excited that it has the same band that the Vision Pro didn't
00:25:11
work very well. Um, that was a really grammatically correct sentence.
00:25:17
But maybe this one's a lot lighter, you know? We'll see if they're able to innovate and do something Apple wasn't with this headset, with this band. Yeah.
00:25:23
TBD. TBD. I don't think the hardware was the problem. Yeah. I don't know. I think it was kind of the problem with the
00:25:29
Apple Vision Pro. It was combination. The head Well, yeah. But if there was an amazing experience, people would just
00:25:36
use it. Yeah. The weight was huge. Was huge, but also there was no content and the price tag was also And it was
00:25:41
expensive, too. Yeah. All right. Well, we got to talk about some more Apple stuff after the break, but before we take a break, we should take a trivia
00:25:49
break. Did you guys do trivia? You did trivia last week, huh? Yeah. And neither of them got it right. So Oh, good.
00:25:55
You could have called me. So, you didn't miss anything. We were debating it, but I was going to if they had gotten it. I was like, I was only 5 hours ahead. I
00:26:02
don't even remember what it was, honest. Oh, it was really hard. What does LEAF
00:26:07
stand for? Yeah, the Nissan Leaf. What does Leaf stand for? It was a backy. Mhm. All right. Oh no. Which I argue
00:26:13
makes it more embarrassing cuz it's so stupid. Why would you make it a Only make a backy if it's super creative and
00:26:19
good. Don't just do it. Electric and vision. So yeah, zero points for
00:26:25
David. Zero points for David. We all We all thought E was electric. It wasn't. It was environmentally friendly.
00:26:32
Yes, that's one. What about the A? The A is affordable. What is the L? The L is leading. Why are
00:26:39
you asking this all out of order? Leading environmentally friendly leading environmentally friendly affordable family car. This is like do you know
00:26:46
when they make like memes of acronyms where like one of the letters is multi like I need CPR crab rangoons right in
00:26:53
my mouth or whatever and like this is what that is environmentally friendly. You guys could have gotten a point if
00:27:00
you had gotten any of those correct. It wasn't like you had to get the whole thing. You just needed one of the words.
00:27:05
So L is leading. Leading. Didn't I say that? No I said love. Either way, that was last week. So, it's kind of like how
00:27:13
the RF and GFX100 RF like I it stands for rangefinder style fixed lens, which
00:27:21
also almost sounds like a backronym. In my video, I literally said it is a rangefinder style fixed lens, and
00:27:27
everyone was like, "It's not a rangefinder." And I was like, "Rangefinder style." I know. We need to
00:27:32
get rid of that is literally what it stands for. Damn. All right. First
00:27:38
question. Yeah, we spoke about the PS1 earlier. Oh boy. Oh boy. I don't know.
00:27:43
Fun fact, it was released in the United States September of 1995. So, question for you. Which of these games was not
00:27:51
available on the PS1? Can I just before we get to there
00:27:57
GTA 6? Wait, are you saying PS1 like he's talking about in there, which is the
00:28:03
modified version after the original PlayStation? No, no, the original PlayStation. The PS1. Yeah. Um, okay. A,
00:28:11
Gran Turismo. B, Crash Bandicoot, C. Final Fantasy, D.
00:28:18
Call of Duty: World at War, or E. All of these were available on the PS1. No way.
00:28:26
Mhm. You said, "This is before my time, so I'm full stab in the dark for me. I'm not going to know the answer, but we'll
00:28:32
see." It was not before your time. You were Did you just say it was When did you say 95? 95. So, I was 2 years old.
00:28:38
Yeah. Yeah. You thought you were a real gamer. I wasn't 17 yet. Look, I was 5
00:28:43
months old and I knew about these games. Okay. All right. I take it back. Well, I'm going to be guessing, but answers
00:28:49
will be at the end like usual. Crash Bend. We'll be right
00:28:55

00:30:20
up. Yep. It's coming up. Should we start this with that hot take? Sure. It's not even a track card, man. All right, we're
00:30:26
already back. Okay. All right. Get ready to format this card. We're back. And I just said I have a I have a hot take
00:30:31
that's going to burn this whole podcast down. And you know where this comes from. So So here's So here's the announcement that this Every hot take
00:30:38
with a backstory is crazy. No, I believe this though. Every
00:30:43
I fully believe I fully stand by this with all of my heart. A lot of buildup. The announcement is AirPods Max get
00:30:49
lossless audio and the subtext of the announcement is only the USB type-C AirPods Max get it while the cable is
00:30:57
attached. Yeah. And so obviously, okay, so the Lightning one doesn't support it. Most of the AirPods Max out there are
00:31:02
the Lightning One, but okay. These 550 headphones finally got lossless audio.
00:31:09
Oh boy. Update my LinkedIn profile. My hot take. currently looking for a
00:31:14
job. None of you people can tell the difference between lossless audio and regular compressed audio. Zero of you.
00:31:21
And I know you think you can, but you can't. You can only tell it because of confirmation bias, but if you listen
00:31:27
back to back, you might maybe get it right, but if you don't label them and you do a blind test, you'll get it wrong
00:31:33
every single time. There is no I'll stop there. I'll stop there. you
00:31:38
we we physically tested this with the Walkman video on Ellis did like a test
00:31:44
and brought all of us in to see if we could tell the difference between I think I got seven out of eight right
00:31:49
just saying seven out of eight well there there are more differences than just band just the amount of information
00:31:56
there were other you know dynamic range differences etc but if you just take lossless versus
00:32:02
compressed no difference to people so you're saying that they are trying to take the people who believe that there's
00:32:07
a difference and sell them the new headphone. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's great marketing strategy and it's great.
00:32:13
Look, lots lots of expensive headphones support lossless audio and AirPods Max are fairly late to this and it's like,
00:32:19
okay, great. You can do it now. You require the cable. That's not a surprise. Okay, now you have lossless audio. You've caught up to the other
00:32:26
$500 headphones out there. But I don't care. If somehow audio listeners haven't
00:32:31
figured out Ellis isn't in the studio from jumping in on that one, it should.
00:32:36
Yeah, Ellis would probably have thoughts. We can probably pay play back the clip of the episode where they announced the AirPods Max with USBC and
00:32:43
we thought it was going to be AirPods Max 2 and we were like that's just put a USBC
00:32:50
cable slightly new colors. There are a couple other small features that is coming with this personalized spatial
00:32:56
audio and they're in uh ultra low latency
00:33:02
right with the cable attached. So gaming now it's they say um gamers and live
00:33:08
streamers can benefit from ultra low latency audio which lowers lag time and is on par with native built-in speakers
00:33:13
on Mac, iPad, and iPhone. That one's nice. I do notice the ultra low latency stuff because I've noticed differences
00:33:20
in latency between different types of headphones and I think Razer did this thing with their gaming headphones not
00:33:25
that long ago. This ultra low latency mode and it was like okay this you know how you watch a YouTube video with Bluetooth headphones on and the person's
00:33:31
mouth is moving slightly different from the audio in your headphones that's actually noticeable and annoying. So you
00:33:37
can imagine while gaming you want that audio to line up exactly with what you're doing. Yes, this is very useful.
00:33:42
I support ultra low latency. I agree with everything you said. Yeah. Except
00:33:48
except I'm pretty sure this article means it only works when it's plugged in. Yes. Correct. With the wire. Only the cable. Yes. So, I'm not impressed.
00:33:54
Oh, I'm not impressed. I'm just saying it's a useful feature. All headphones are ultra low latency when they're plugged in. I'm not Bluetooth is the
00:34:01
only thing that causes drag. That's true. Yes, that's true. So, they're just spinning the fact that it's plugged in.
00:34:08
I feel like I have to be missing something here. I guess my only take is that there is a noticeable difference
00:34:13
between ultra low latency and wireless. So I'm like, okay, it supports it.
00:34:19
Great. I'm I'm my take that I I can see the comments already are that the
00:34:25
difference between 24bit 48 kHz lossless audio and whatever codec, whatever bit
00:34:31
rate it was doing over Bluetooth before 164.1 imperceptible to 99.9% of people.
00:34:37
And that last 0.1% is kind of guessing. Damn. Wow. Mic drop. Um, well, don't you
00:34:46
worry. There's another big announcement. I just can't afford this. If you're a gamer, you cannot afford
00:34:52
this. I'm sorry. You also now Mhm. can buy a USBC to 3.5
00:34:58
millimeter audio cable for the low low price of my ring makes that really bad. Drum
00:35:05
solo. $39. Jeez. Yeah, that gets you the DACK is in the cable. I believe you can.
00:35:11
What? And you can plug it straight into because what are you plugging into traditional DAC? I think you might need
00:35:17
it because it's if you're plugging into something with a headphone jack. This isn't a modern smartphone anymore. This is like some MP3 player or some other
00:35:24
thing and you're going to plug it straight into the AirPods Max. So, you're going to probably need some
00:35:29
support from the cable to drive them. I do also want to make the difference here is there already is a USBC to 3.5 mm
00:35:37
adapter. This is the cable to plug directly into your headphones. The adapter is probably totally passive.
00:35:43
Yeah. Was there already a lightning male lightning to male 3.5?
00:35:49
I bought one on Amazon a while ago for cheap and it was not very good. I don't think Apple sold one. If they did, I it
00:35:56
probably cost a lot more. Yeah, I have not used it. I know they had a lightning to female 3.5 because they originally
00:36:04
sold that with the iPhone 10. I immediately get lost in Apple dongles.
00:36:10
It's so hard to keep track of all the different ones. Yeah. Okay. Well, big news for those people. Mhm.
00:36:18
USBC AirPods Max people. To the people that care, congratulations. Moving on.
00:36:23
There is also a rumor going around that the iPhone 17 Pro is going to have 8K video recording.
00:36:31
Yeah, that's a lot of smart. I have a hot take. Most of you who think you can
00:36:36
see 8K video footage can't actually tell the difference. I would take you up on that. I definitely can watch a 4K video
00:36:42
and then switch it to 8K and be like, "Wow, this looks way better." What are you watching it on? Um, I was joking. 6K
00:36:48
Pro display XDR 6K display. If I watch a 4K video and then an 8K video, even though it's not an AK display, I can see
00:36:54
a difference. Also, the thing about enhanced bit rate that I can I wish I
00:37:00
could I wish I could. It depends on the video. Yeah, depends on the video cuz the thing is YouTube had this bug
00:37:05
recently where and I don't know if you saw this, if you started watching a video and you had a great Wi-Fi
00:37:11
connection, it would still play at ultra low quality, right? And this went on for a couple of days. And I was very annoyed by this cuz every video I watch on my
00:37:17
iPad, I immediately select the highest possible like bit rate and resolution. So it was going to default to these
00:37:23
lower resolutions and every single time I would switch it and I started noticing more and more videos that have 1080p and
00:37:28
1080p high bit rate. Some of them just for and giggles I would check it out and
00:37:34
I would notice a tiny difference with the high bit rate, but it would depend on the video and how much movement and motion there is and how much is
00:37:40
happening in the video. So, I some of those I would be able to tell, some of those I wouldn't, but I can definitely tell a difference between like 1080 and
00:37:48
1440 in 4K. Yeah. And then if there's an 8K video, I'm probably going to need a big display to notice a difference, but
00:37:53
and how close you are to the screen. Yeah. And the thing about 8K videos is they're they're typically shot on
00:37:59
sensors and cameras that look better than 4K cameras. So, it's not just pure resolution difference. Like if I were to
00:38:05
take a 8K video from the Red and downsize it to 4K, it's still going to look really, really good and that's
00:38:11
going to be hard to tell the difference. But a 4K video from my RX100 versus an 8K video from my Red, it's like, okay, I
00:38:18
can tell which one the 8K one is cuz it looks better in so many other ways. What about an 8K from a Galaxy S24 Ultra?
00:38:24
That's what I'm cur So right now 8K videos from smartphones. the couple that support it. The way it kind of ends up
00:38:30
going is it's only from the main sensor because that's the only one with the high enough resolution and fast enough
00:38:35
processing and fast enough scanning of the sensor. And then it ends up looking like this super super crisp
00:38:41
oversharpened video from top to bottom. And so it kind of fools you into thinking, "Wow, this is much better
00:38:47
because I have all this detail and like someone's hair will like wisp off in the sun and you can see like every little
00:38:53
thing and it looks sharper and better, but it's not actually more usable in
00:39:00
terms of like resolution or or just looking like better footage. I would get more from a larger sensor and a
00:39:06
shallower depth of field than I would from going to 8K. Yeah. That being said, I've wanted 8K from lots of smartphone
00:39:13
cameras. I think the iPhone is a prime camera to support 8K. I've I've shot
00:39:19
lots of video on iPhones. You watch the Autofocus channel, you've seen a lot of it. I would love to see what 8K from
00:39:24
those sensors would look like. Um, but we haven't seen it yet. So, maybe this next generation we will. Would you use
00:39:30
it? Uh, I think so. So, the thing about 8K also is it's four times 4K resolution. So, it's going to be a ton
00:39:37
of storage. And you already know what it looks like to shoot 4K HDR ProRes log. Log that. Those are big files. You need
00:39:44
an external hard drive. So big. I'm thinking 8K is going to require at least a terabyte iPhone or something crazy cuz
00:39:51
they're not going to unlock that for 250 68 iPhones. And it's going to probably I
00:39:56
don't know if it'll require external storage, but it'll be strongly suggested. My guess is they're not even going to allow you to shoot 8K ProRes.
00:40:03
Like 8K will be an option, but ProRes is going to be limited to 4K. H.265 because
00:40:09
four H.264 is limited to 4K, right? So H.265 is 8K. Yeah. And that's that'll be
00:40:15
that's the only way to support. But I just don't think that Apple will even let you because they're just going to be like, this up way too much storage. So
00:40:21
they're going to compress 8K. So is the compressed 8K going to look better than the ProRes 4K? It's the same thing. It's
00:40:27
like it's like the 8K on the smartphone looks kind of worse than just the regular 4K because it's so much
00:40:33
sharpening, so much uh what was that? So much sharpening, so much noise reduction
00:40:39
that it just ends up looking like oversharpened and plasticky. Yeah, but it would just be better to shoot 4K.
00:40:44
What if they want it taking up more storage so you can buy more iCloud? Conspiracy.
00:40:49
Yeah, I mean they didn't allow ProRes log unless you had the 256 gig model.
00:40:57
you needed more. I think you might have needed the terabyte. No, I think it was I think it was just there wasn't I think
00:41:02
the base model didn't right. I think it was just the base model didn't allow it. So, I could see if they did that. I just
00:41:08
I don't think they're going to allow 8K in ProRes log at all. Yeah, those would
00:41:13
be crazy big files. I bet if this does come out on 17 Pro, they announce it at
00:41:18
the event and it comes out three months later. Yeah, I could see that. I could
00:41:24
definitely That's actually a really good prediction. I think that's exactly what they would do. Pretty solid. Wow.
00:41:29
Especially because the day one videos of people being like, I shot 10 minutes of 8K video and now my phone is full. They
00:41:35
were just delay those headlines by a couple weeks while people buy the phones and then turn it on. Yeah. Damn. That's
00:41:41
a good that's a good one, Andrew. I like how the the smallest note in this outline turned into one joke and
00:41:47
possibly the longest conversation that I think we've just I'm I can see the comment section burning up already from
00:41:53
my last two takes from AirPods Max and now AK video on phones, but I stand by them. Other small rumor is that G Mark
00:42:01
German is saying that they possibly may be producing the foldable iPhone as early as 2026, selling it as early as
00:42:08
2026 next year. Uh we also had an analyst saying that the device has entered a new production phase and mass
00:42:14
production could be slated for the second half of next year. So So it's
00:42:19
going to beat the the robo taxi. Everything will be the robo taxi.
00:42:25
Interesting. Okay. Uh I've been burned before. So but Mark German does think
00:42:30
that it's a foldable style uh flip phone and not a flip style folding phone. I
00:42:35
that there's too many names for this folding thing. I think it's confusing cuz when you fold and flip are next to each other, it makes perfect sense. But
00:42:41
when you only say folds, then it's like pants and shorts. Shorts are over shorts, but I think that's a hotter take
00:42:48
than go. I'm not getting into that argument. He also says there will be less of a crease. Uh, which matches with
00:42:54
an earlier report from ET News. Less of a crease than existing than existing folds and flips. And Apple has decided
00:43:01
to eliminate crease at all costs. Yeah. Yeah. So, that's something ET News reported like a month ago saying that like Apple is willing to like not have a
00:43:10
crease on this. Like that's a main factor. An interesting tidbit. I mean, I I recently did the video on the Oppo
00:43:16
Find N5 talking about this Peak Foldable where they've done so much. It's super thin. It has a large battery. The hinge
00:43:23
is really nice. And there's almost no crease. And I wonder like as Apple
00:43:29
watches all of these foldables coming out, what they're thinking is like, all right, what we've got to do to make it
00:43:34
like okay for us to ship a foldable and to land on the crease being the tough
00:43:39
thing and not the aspect ratio or the bezels or the under display selfie camera or anything else. The crease got
00:43:46
to have no crease. That's an interesting Yeah, I guess that's Apple kind of admitting or at least saying that the
00:43:53
industry has figured out the form factors by now because that's usually what they do. They let the experimental
00:43:58
stuff cook for like a few years and then they take, okay, what are the key problems with these things that people
00:44:04
are testing out? Let's iron that out and then release something. Iron it out. Get the crease out. That's right. Iron,
00:44:10
baby. And they're basically saying nice. They're basically saying that a
00:44:16
they a foldable hot dog style foldable is the style. That is correct. Uh I
00:44:22
don't know if I agree with that. I think that, you know, the new Huawei one is kind of hot,
00:44:29
but I always p pictured Apple doing flip style. I just thought it made more sense. That's a literal iPhone that like
00:44:36
falls in half. And that's the one that I see all over the place and iPhone people are like, h, yeah. My question becomes
00:44:42
though, do we see them all over the place because they're still half the price of folds? 100%. I think so. Yeah.
00:44:48
But that's also like there are also folds out there, but none of my iPhone people in my life care about them. It's
00:44:53
like a joke. Like why would you want that? But they see the flips and they're like, "Oh, that is cool." And is that
00:44:59
independent of price, do you think? Cuz I think Well, they don't know the pricing when they're just looking at it, you know? Yeah. Cuz I think when I when
00:45:04
I imagine which one to tackle first is the best idea, I think there are more flips in the world, but I think that's
00:45:11
also because of the price. So, I don't know if that's a good indicator for which one's a better
00:45:19
[Music] ide. Well, what does that offer me? I
00:45:25
guess it's cool that it folds in half and it's smaller, but they can do they can tell a way more dramatic premium
00:45:30
story with this tablet in your pocket thing. Yeah. And I think if this is going to be a $2,000 plus dollar phone,
00:45:35
like they they would like to have some big, you know, heavyhitting thing to
00:45:41
start the category. The other interesting thing becomes iOS and iPad OS are different and work differently.
00:45:48
And so does Apple merge them and just make them cuz like Android basically
00:45:54
took Android and then they had a foldable version of Android and they eventually just merge them into one
00:46:01
version where all Android phones can now just dynamically expand and do the like plug into a computer and all these
00:46:08
things. Yeah. Apple's going to have to go through that process and it took Google like three years to figure that out. Yeah. So, are they just going to
00:46:15
like knock it out of the park day one or are they going to have some flubs? I think they they kill the iPad mini. No,
00:46:21
unfortunately. Please no. And this is the new iPad mini and then this is the new iPad and then they make a a commercial where they're like, "Hey,
00:46:27
what's that iPad?" And the person's like, "What's an iPad?" An iPad. That'd be awesome. Deep cut. Uh it
00:46:32
should be around $2,000 or $2,000 to $2,500. So that is a fairly Yes, it is.
00:46:41
But it was is also the same price that the folds have been for like a very long time. Yeah. Or at least were when they launched. I'm not sure if that would
00:46:47
like a lot cheaper now. Get a new round of people buying iPhones. I think a flip
00:46:52
would be way more compelling to people cuz you also don't have to tell developers, okay, now there's a new
00:46:57
screen size you have to figure out. Well, there is the the front-facing screen if they had if they had a screen
00:47:02
on the front. Yeah. Oh, that's true. It's that or the big landscape thing. What? Maybe maybe it's iOS when it's
00:47:10
closed. When you open it, it's iPad OS and it's got an M chip and it
00:47:16
and it's sick. Interesting. Yeah. So, you
00:47:21
know, more rumor mill stuff. I think we've been reporting on this for Oh, yeah. A year. We just need to talk about
00:47:27
enough to maybe put it in the thumbnail. This is a long way away, but it is interesting to imagine. We have some
00:47:32
facts to throw at you that are different from rumors. Uh WWVC, also called
00:47:39
dubdub. Someone in the comment section said, "Stop calling it that." And to you, I say, "No, that's what it's
00:47:45
called, though. It's an acronym. I've listened to your concerns and I've chosen to ignore them."
00:47:52
They sound a lot like Tim Cook right now. Also, WWDC. Oh my goodness, that takes forever
00:47:59
to say. I'm just gonna say Worldwide Developer Conference every single time. That's it. Hurts me. So, when is the
00:48:04
Worldwide Developer Conference this year? June 9th. Ah. Oh, Worldwide Developer Conference 2025. Yeah, the
00:48:10
Worldwide Developer Conference 2025 is taking place at Apple headquarters in Certino, California at one infinite
00:48:15
loop. It's typically in June. The Worldwide Developer Conference. Yeah, the Worldwide Developer Conference starts on June 9th, but the Worldwide
00:48:21
Developer Conference is actually going to be accessible to every developer online, fully available online between
00:48:27
June 9th and June 12th. What are we expecting to see at this Worldwide Developer Conference? Well, glad you
00:48:32
asked, Adam. At the Worldwide Developer Conference, I'm sorry. We're done. Uh, dubdub. That person regrets that
00:48:38
comment. I wasn't done. I'm honestly surprised none of us tripped. I'm very surprised. That's why I didn't participate cuz I knew I would have. Uh,
00:48:46
yeah. So, it's taking place June 9th. It is going to be available to developers entirely online, which is exciting. It is a Monday this year, which is a little
00:48:53
bit different. Usually, they do it on Tuesdays. So yeah, the like initial day, first keynote and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Uh
00:48:59
so for us, I mean, unless we're like doing a podcast there, then we can just do our normal podcast, I guess. Amazing.
00:49:06
Which is cool if that's even happening. Although, yeah, who knows? We will have to wait like 4 days for people to hear
00:49:11
our thoughts on uh on the thing that's happening on Monday. But in other news, the European Union has officially put
00:49:18
into effect the consequences of its digital markets act and it's going to force Apple allegedly to change iOS in
00:49:27
nine key way or seven key ways. Uh nine key ways. Nine key ways. I wrote this this morning. Nine key ways. Um, now
00:49:34
obviously Apple can still appeal this and they almost definitely will because
00:49:39
the ways that the European Union has told Apple to change iOS are all ways in which they keep people in their
00:49:46
ecosystem. So surprisingly all of these changes are things that you have to be like very you know techsavvy and
00:49:53
understand why these features kind of keep people in the ecosystem to do. So I'm just going to go down the list here.
00:50:01
Uh, number one is better access to iOS notifications, which would allow third-party smart watches to show
00:50:06
notifications and allow people to interact with them similar to how the Apple Watch can. You also must allow
00:50:12
custom actions. Uh, you also must allow custom actions from thirdparty developers and ensure
00:50:18
that the actions are triggered on the iOS device. So, like quick replies. Yeah. Yeah. Quick replies or like
00:50:24
opening apps on your phone when you click on the the watch, that kind of stuff. Sure. Uh, this would fix a lot of
00:50:29
the Garmin problem that we have. Yeah, this is big dub. Big dub. I mean, big
00:50:35
win. Big win. Oh, sorry. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, win-win developer conference. Can we
00:50:41
just When you say these, can we say if this is a a dub? A W. Mhm. A world.
00:50:47
Okay. Number two. World's in the chat. High bandwidth peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connections. I believe this means that
00:50:53
MacBooks are going to be able to see your phone's network and connect to it very easily regardless of it's an
00:50:59
iPhone. Cuz right now, as long as your phone is around your Mac and is on the
00:51:04
is uh connected to the same Apple ID, you can just click the Wi-Fi button and click connect to your phone. Super
00:51:10
useful. Yes. Also, when Chromebooks did that, that was useful. They still do it. Yeah. Chromebooks and Pixels. Yeah.
00:51:16
Yeah. Yeah. So, that would be really nice. Uh, the question then becomes to me, if there are tons of phones
00:51:23
everywhere, is your laptop just going to show a zillion different networks? Oh, I feel like that could be frustrating
00:51:29
because the reason the way that they do it now is they check to see if you're on the same Apple ID and then it shows it.
00:51:35
But part of this European Union thing is like the the discovery aspect of that network needs to be opened. So that's
00:51:41
pretty interesting. But they specifically say high bandwidth peer-to-peer. And that makes me wonder
00:51:47
if there is some underlying protocol where the iPhone giving access to internet to the MacBook is faster with
00:51:55
its bandwidth or something than like an Android phone that is casting internet to the MacBook. I'm not totally sure. Uh
00:52:02
number three, proximity triggered pairing needs to be opened up. So obviously when you have an a pair of
00:52:08
AirPods or something and you hold it near the iPhone, it'll show that little
00:52:13
um popup window on the iPhone that's like your Yeah, Google has fast pair but
00:52:19
only for Android phones. And so basically I think they're just trying to make it so that all earbuds have the
00:52:25
same capabilities. So that would be nice. Yeah. Is that a dub? I think that's a dub. I'm also wondering if
00:52:32
pairing AirPods to an Android phone would have to do the other way around. Yeah, specifically they're going after
00:52:38
Apple here. I imagine Well, that's still Apple. Is that Oh, I guess it's who's
00:52:43
allowing on a an Android phone. Yeah, Google would still have to allow because
00:52:49
they're different protocols right now. Like Google has the official fast pair protocol, you know? Yeah. That uses like
00:52:56
a Qualcomm thing. Okay. Yeah. And then I wonder is the EU going to make Google open it up? That is a great question.
00:53:02
Yeah, that is a great question. Um, number four, background execution. Apple needs to provide third parties with the
00:53:08
ability to work in the background and fetch data. Uh, this is also something that completely nukes third party
00:53:15
smartwatches because a lot of the tasks and stuff cannot run in the background. Eric Mijikovski who just la relaunched
00:53:22
Pebble specifically said why Apple won't let us make a good Pebble app. He wrote a whole blog post
00:53:28
about it and a lot of that has to do with the ability to fetch information from the phone actively while it's
00:53:35
running in the background. Gotcha. WW close range wireless file transfer. Uh,
00:53:42
other platforms must be able to send and receive data via an equally powerful method as AirDrop when connected to an
00:53:48
Apple device and have access to the same protocols Airdrop uses to operate such as discovery, Wi-Fi transfer, and more.
00:53:55
Enormous dub. Love it. Massive. Love to see it. It would make working in this office so much
00:54:01
easier stuff from my phone, you know. And I don't feel bad for them having to open this up because for so long you
00:54:07
could have just let me plug my phone into my computer and access the files to it. But you don't. So here we
00:54:14
go. I'm Slack messaging myself photos. Yeah. I mean AirDrop is definitely they
00:54:19
basically what they did was they went onto Apple devices and they were like what are all the things that only work
00:54:24
among Apple devices and make it so you have to buy another Apple device for this feature to work well. Mhm. And they
00:54:30
are basically just saying you have to open all this stuff up, which is amazing. I think the AirDrop is kind of
00:54:36
the secondary reason that people stay on iPhones when they have a Mac next to iMessage. So that's a very big thing.
00:54:43
Automatic Wi-Fi connection on third party devices. So for example, if you connect to a Wi-Fi network on your
00:54:48
iPhone and then you open your MacBook, it's automatically connected to the same Wi-Fi network. That's very helpful. And
00:54:54
uh that would be nice. I'm not really sure how they're going to do that. I'm guessing it means with like cuz some smart watches can connect to Wi-Fi which
00:55:01
allows them to pull notifications and stuff through the internet so it doesn't have to be connected via Bluetooth to your phone. It might be that. I would
00:55:08
love to see that based on other computers as well, but I just don't really see how that would happen, but
00:55:14
who knows? Um, casting solutions equal to AirPlay. So, Apple has to give third parties the ability to cast with the
00:55:20
same tech AirPlay has access to, and it must be available in the control center picker and offer it via the standard
00:55:26
media playback APIs without the developer needing to integrate an SDK.
00:55:31
So, that's cool. Am I the only one that's like not a fan of all of this?
00:55:36
What do you mean not a fan? Like that they're forcing Apple to do this? Yeah, I It's basically the result is good.
00:55:44
Yeah, but it's weird. the way it's happening is a slippery slope. Like if
00:55:51
they can just come in and go, "All right, I know you built these technologies, but now here's what you
00:55:57
have to do with them." Like you know where all of these technologies exist on Android phones. Like if it's really that
00:56:03
serious you know you could just leave but you can't then that's the whole
00:56:08
problem. I think that's the whole reason they're doing this is because you can't leave.
00:56:14
Like you have to buy AirPods if you want to have like device switching and all that kind of stuff, you know. Yeah. You
00:56:21
have to you have to leave universal. You have to leave iPhone. I mean Yeah. Yeah. Which is very hard for people to do.
00:56:28
Ironically in Europe it's not as hard. Yeah. That's what I was going to say. This is in the EU. It's harder here, but
00:56:34
it is harder here. I don't think it's that difficult in the EU. Yeah. So I I don't know. We got two more. Uh
00:56:39
automatic audio switching. So third party headphones must have the ability to automatically switch between your
00:56:45
phone and your laptop. Right now there is uh what is the term for it where you
00:56:51
can connect device multi multipoint where you can be connected to both at the same time. So I don't see this as
00:56:57
that big of a deal because it's from the headphones perspective and not you know the devices perspective. But apparently
00:57:04
they have to open that up to other headphones. And also they must be allowed to use the same high bandwidth connection that AirPods use. I guess for
00:57:10
lower latency or something like that. And then number nine, Apple has to open the NFC chip to read write so that you
00:57:17
can not only have to use it with Apple Pay. Oh yeah, because they I love all
00:57:23
these. Yeah. I don't know. I'm not a fan. I think all of these are things where like if you either have an like if
00:57:30
you have an iPhone, you should be able to have other things that aren't Apple products. Exactly. I think that's super
00:57:35
reasonable. Yes. Yes. The results are super reasonable. Yes. It's just is this
00:57:40
the way to accomplish those results? I mean, Apple's not going to do it by
00:57:45
themselves. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Consumers should the question well but the question always becomes like have you
00:57:53
created a space where it's hard for consumers to pick other options and therefore they have to buy the Apple
00:57:58
option which further locks them into the Apple ecosystem. They can't get out. So
00:58:04
other players like can't even compete. I'm trying to imagine a less competitive version of the same thing where this
00:58:09
would never happen. Like I designed like what did we what was that random car that had like luggage? The BMW iix. Mhm.
00:58:16
BMW made bespoke luggage that fits perfectly in the trunk of the BMW EX. So
00:58:21
it like maximizes the trunk space. So if you want to fill the trunk space with luggage, you have to buy that luggage.
00:58:27
Otherwise, you're just going to buy some random cheap other third party luggage and it might not fit or it might only take up half the space.
00:58:34
Now the EU comes in and says BMW, you are required to allow others to like design
00:58:42
luggage with your exact specifications. Yeah, but that's not illegal right now. Well, it's not illegal. Well, like it's
00:58:47
not illegal. You can still design luggage. Yeah. I feel like the difference would be it's like if someone designed the luggage that did fit in
00:58:54
there and then BMW had a a way of being like, "No, that doesn't." Or the trunk
00:58:59
the trunk won't close if you put different luggage. Yeah. Yeah, that's better. Yeah. Like if you you are
00:59:04
allowed to design with the exact dimensions, but if they detect it's not BMWs, then it doesn't work or something.
00:59:10
Like Yeah, they should. The EU should be do that. I'm also going to go out and
00:59:15
say I am sure the way the EU is doing it isn't perfect because there's a lot of issues in every government everywhere.
00:59:22
But like I think for like it seems crazy that I know lots of people with iPhones that would rather have a Garmin watch
00:59:28
just because there are a lot of benefits to it even versus an Apple Watch Ultra and not being able to do a bunch of the
00:59:33
things and just straight up losing features in that. Yeah. Seems like super ticky tacky and things that like I don't
00:59:40
think any of these are super unreasonable asks that would really make people like not want their iPhone
00:59:47
anymore. It just lets people with an iPhone have some more opportunities. Yeah. Yeah. There does become a question
00:59:54
of like how do you differentiate how does Apple differentiate its products to
01:00:00
make people want to buy them? Like do they just have to make the audio quality better? Do they just have to which to be
01:00:06
fair is what every other brand has to do? And there does become a problem when the platform developer becomes the
01:00:13
person that is selling accessories for the platform because they can always prefer their accessories. Yep. you know,
01:00:18
and so comp it's hard for competition to compete when there's a platform developer that also creates the Amazon
01:00:25
Basics like knocks off products and puts their listing above other stuff. Yeah. Like we're Amazon, we built the search
01:00:31
engines, so we put what we want there. You search fanny pack or like small camera bag and it comes up with the Peak
01:00:37
Design knockoff that Amazon themselves made. Like that is anti-competitive. Yeah. So, yeah, but the solution is also
01:00:44
you just leave the iPhone. It's really hard to leave the office. I do it like three times a year.
01:00:51
Well, you Yeah, I mean, you build different.
01:00:56
We have no discipline out here. I would say like AirDrop is probably the one thing that keeps me using the iPhone
01:01:03
right now because now that RCS exists and I'm getting these RCS chats from
01:01:08
people and I'm RCS chatting with people, I'm like, I really don't have qualms not using iMessage anymore. But I do use
01:01:15
AirDrop constantly and it is really really hard to move files from an Android phone to a MacBook. May I
01:01:22
interest you in an app called local send which does that?
01:01:27
How f how fast does it do it? It's the same in airrop. It's just you have to download the app. Also send from the
01:01:32
MacBook to the phone. Yeah. And do you need an app on the MacBook? Yep. Yeah, that's the thing. It's like this is
01:01:38
built into the OS but there are other options you just have to download. There are other options. I would like to uh
01:01:45
end this segment with a tech support question because I know that this has worked in the past where somebody has an
01:01:51
issue and then they put it out into the world and then other people with the same issue will find them. I have a tech support issue. It's RCS related. Okay.
01:01:59
So, this phone has RCS on it. Which phone is this? This is the Galaxy S25 Ultra and I have AT&T and I use Google
01:02:06
Messages so it should work perfectly with RCS and RCS chats is turned on and connected on this phone. Okay. When I
01:02:12
send a message to someone with RCS, it starts to try to send for a while and
01:02:18
then it says it's pending. It'll send when the recipient is online and then a couple minutes later it goes the
01:02:24
recipient was never online so I sent an SMS instead. Does the recipient have an iPhone or an Android? Both. This has
01:02:30
happened with both. And what is their uh carrier? So Andrew, what's your carrier?
01:02:35
I'm T-Mobile. You're T-Mobile. So it says RCS chat with Andrew. T-Mobile test. Send. It says I'm gonna try to
01:02:42
send an RCS and it will stay there. And you haven't gotten a text yet, right? No. I hit send. I am in airplane mode.
01:02:48
So maybe that's So when I hit this, it says message delivers when Andrew is online, but it never gets there and it
01:02:55
just stays and the person will not get my text until it auto backs up to SMS or I just hit switch to SMS and then it
01:03:02
sends you an SMS. So this you will not get this text. I have a dumb question. Yeah. Have you tried turning it off and
01:03:08
on again? Yes, I have tried turning it off and on again. I have tried disabling it on one phone and then enabling it on
01:03:14
a different phone. I think my issue is I have switched phones so many times and then I when I switch phones, I don't
01:03:21
like turn RCS off on one phone and then turn it on on the other phone. And I think that might be messing with it
01:03:27
because as of this particular phone, I have like two RCS chats that are working and the rest all don't work and they're
01:03:34
backing all of them to SMS. And Andrew, you will not get that test. And I just got other text messages. Yep. Yeah. So,
01:03:40
you're not going to get it until Wait. See this? Switch to SMS. You're going to get it in like 2 seconds now cuz it's
01:03:46
just a regular SMS. See? There you go. Can you try with me? It's funny cuz it still says RCS chat with Andrew. Yeah. And it still thinks it's Wait, this it
01:03:53
says you're typing right now. Yeah. Which is probably the other one that will never go through. Marquez, I think
01:03:58
you're on to something though because my this is like a known thing when you leave iMessage where like your numbers
01:04:05
kind of tied up on the online service or whatever and because you're switching between Android phones that also now
01:04:11
have this RCS enabled. That would be my guess. I think the Jed servers are like being pulled from one phone that isn't
01:04:17
this phone and so some other phone somewhere is logged in as our probably
01:04:23
right in the closet. Well, the thing is if I go boot up those other phones, they all say they're signed out. So, even
01:04:30
though this is the only one that says it's signed in, I think other phones are still getting these messages. Yeah, that sounds about right. Can you go into your
01:04:35
Google account and sign out other accounts? Sign with RCS. I don't know. You can go Yeah, you can like sign out
01:04:42
of your Google account. But there was a bug when I was testing the Pixel 9 where I was trying to get RCS to work and it
01:04:48
was not working and it was because I had not like turned RCS off on an old phone
01:04:53
or something, right? And then it wouldn't reregister it on the new device. I think that's where I'm at right now. So, if anyone else is
01:04:59
watching this video and has had the same issue and found a fix to it, please let me know. I will be trolling through the
01:05:05
comments, digging between all of your hot takes about wired audio and iPhones.
01:05:11
You want an answer, but you already said on something else protocols. I that
01:05:17
seems super niche because you switch phones so much, but if that does occur to someone making a change and their old
01:05:23
phone is broken or whatever and they can't go back, that's like a significant. It's been like a month of
01:05:28
me not being able to chat with people in RCS on this phone. But so every time you send like someone a message, you then
01:05:34
have to go in and like Yep. and then hit the text and then go switch to SMS and now you're gonna get my text. Have you
01:05:40
heard of WhatsApp? I've heard of it and I don't want to go
01:05:47
down that road. I just Yeah. So yeah, we'll see if anyone hits me up in the
01:05:53
comments. We're going to have to take one more quick break. We do have Crown and Clown after we get back. But before we get back, let's do trivia.
01:06:03
trivia. All right. So, what is wrong with Marquez's phone? That's the question. No, I'm joking. Uh, when was
01:06:10
AirDrop announced? You will get one point for the year, two points for the month and the year. Oh, yeah. Three
01:06:16
points for the day. Three points for the day. Sure, why not? Let's do it. Four points for the announcer, five points
01:06:22
for the hour. Actually, I will give you four points if you could guess the announcer. Six points, Shaq.
01:06:30
Six point six points if you could tell me what they ate for lunch before they announced it. All right, we'll think
01:06:37
about it. We'll be back after the break. This would be the wildest way for me to come
01:06:44
[Music]

01:08:18
because it is the last episode of the month, we are going to do crown and
01:08:23
clown, which means that we are going to go around and say what we think is the best thing that happened this month, aka
01:08:29
the crown, and what is the worst thing that happened this month, aka the clown. The trick is we all need to agree on
01:08:36
what the crown and the clown is. So, we have to convince each other of what it is. Yes. And we're going to attempt to
01:08:42
be more organized this month. Attempt. Attempt the key word. An attempt was made. Let's just say that. Yes. So,
01:08:48
we're trying to be persuasive here. Yes. Yeah. Let's do crowns first. Yeah. Make your case. Who wants to go first? I will. Okay. Um, this is for Crown. Okay.
01:08:55
Crown. Yeah. I think that my crown is that we did our first live waveform show
01:09:01
this. Oh, we did. Damn, that's really hard to go against that one. It was a
01:09:07
good time. Damn it, David. That's That is funny because my crown comes from that. But I'll I do want to appreciate
01:09:14
that it went really well. Sorry, there's an alarm. Yeah, David,
01:09:20
wake up. I I just wake up.
01:09:26
The whole thing was a dream again. Welcome to podcast. What? What?
01:09:36
No, that's that is a good one. So, I I my crown comes from that. It's not
01:09:42
exactly that, but I do want to appreciate that we did do that. It went really well. It was a good time. It gave me ideas about other ways that we could
01:09:48
do that in the future, which is exciting if we decide to go that route at some point. Could be fun. Shout out to
01:09:53
everyone who was there. Shout out to the questions. We did publish that as well for you guys to listen to that. I think that's pretty cool. Yeah. Um, so what is
01:10:01
yours that come? I think you should do it because Okay, sure. My my crown I keep having to think and make sure I say
01:10:07
the right word. Um, is Gemini live with access to your camera launching in the
01:10:13
last month? I have been using this a lot more than I thought it would. So, Gemini Live is a conversational Gemini where
01:10:20
you pull up that like full screen thing or whatever. It has access to your screen and then you can give it access to your camera. Mh. Um, you open up the
01:10:27
camera and you can just ask it about your surroundings and point it at stuff and ask it about what it's pointed at.
01:10:33
It has not missed once. Yeah. Ask it about us. All right, let's do it.
01:10:39
Are we supposed to be looking at the camera? What do you see here? It looks like you're in a podcast
01:10:44
studio. Are you getting ready to record a new episode? Yeah, I'm about to record this episode with these two people here.
01:10:50
Is there anything you think I should ask them? Oh god, that's awesome. Since
01:10:56
you're podcasting with two people, you could explore the dynamic of their relationship. Ask them how they first
01:11:01
met or what it's like working together. It often leads to interesting stories.
01:11:06
Now, here's here's what's fun. I want you to tell me about these headphones he's wearing. What are these?
01:11:12
Those are Audio Technica ATTHM50X headphones. They're pretty popular in the audio world. Known for their clear
01:11:19
sound. It doesn't miss, dude. I've asked it about products. I've asked it about animals. Yeah, let's try it. That is
01:11:24
crazy. What about my watch? Cuz it's What watch is this? And is it any good?
01:11:29
I'm wondering cuz this is like the Phoenix basically stole from the Epics line. And wait, you confused it. Yeah,
01:11:35
we haven't did like one person. Well, it's not very good if you can't listen to two people talk at the same time. I know our audience loves when we talk
01:11:41
over each other. Gemini is just like I will not partake yet. All right, let's try it.
01:11:47
All right, so what is this watch and is it any good? That's a G Fenix 7. It's a really
01:11:54
popular high-end GPS watch known for its durability and tons of features. Do you have any specific activities in mind
01:12:01
that you'd want to use it for? No, but cancel that. I actually want you to tell me about this watch. I think it looks
01:12:06
way cooler. What is this? Hey. Ah, that's a Casio AE120
01:12:14
WHD1A. It's a digital watch with a retro vibe. And yeah, it does look pretty cool. What? Are you thinking about
01:12:20
getting one? This is modified. Mine's a Fenix 9, by the way. That's crazy. With the screen off, I might look at it. This
01:12:26
is like heavily modified to the point where you can barely tell that it's an AE1200. That's crazy. It's I've I've
01:12:32
pointed it at animals. It's told me about the animal. I've pointed it at products that like don't have labels on
01:12:38
them and it just knows what they are. I've been just asking it like how to do things around the house. It's It's
01:12:43
genuinely shocking how useful it is. I don't actually have that many things I need to do with it, but I just keep finding reasons to use it because it's
01:12:50
that good. This is my crown for the month. I think people should try it if they have it on their phone. You do need a subscription. It's really good. Try it
01:12:56
out. Wow. Yeah, that is interesting. Priced. I'll do mine. I don't think it's as good as either of these, so I'm not
01:13:02
doing a good job at convincing, but I do think it will be appreciated in here. Android 16 is going to let all Pixel
01:13:09
phones use fingerprint unlock when the screen is off. And this will be going back to old Pixels as well. Wait, why
01:13:16
fingerprint? Because before you could tap on the screen to wake the screen up before you could use the fingerprint
01:13:22
unlock screen specific. Uh, okay. I remember one time you spe saying one of
01:13:28
the things you really liked about the Samsung phones is that you can unlock them while the screen is on. And that's because they use ultrasonic fingerprint
01:13:35
readers that don't need to light up the screen to see your finger. On the ones with optical fingerprint readers under
01:13:41
the display, what they do is they they light up a little area and then when you press that area, then it shines a bright
01:13:48
white light just on your finger. Yeah. And there are some phones that don't do that. So just making them all do that is
01:13:55
great. Is this when you don't have like always on display or something? Yeah, I
01:14:01
think it's whether whether you have always on or not. I think a lot of these phones understand that people just want to unlock it right away. And so they'll
01:14:06
have a little area indicator of where to press, but some of them don't have that area. So So you're saying Android 16 is
01:14:13
going to make all of them that have an underd display fingerprint reader tell you where to press and then when you press it, it'll unlock. Pixel phones
01:14:19
currently require the screen to be on for the fingerprint scanner to function. Thankfully, this limitation will be addressed in the upcoming Android 16
01:14:25
update for Pixel and that they tested in settings, security and privacy, device unlock, face and fingerprint unlock,
01:14:31
fingerprint unlock. There's now a slider for screen off fingerprint unlock and they said it also did work on their uh
01:14:38
6A and 7 Pro. They were using the beta Pixel 7 Pro. Okay. Which I've realized I
01:14:45
didn't know was even a thing until I remember you mentioning it and I use it on my S24 all the time now. Yeah, I was
01:14:51
gonna say I didn't know that was a thing because mine just does that, but I think it's because I have always on display on
01:14:56
so it is like always on your Pixel does. Yeah, the screen never actually turns off. So there's always an area to like
01:15:01
touch my finger and turn it on. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Nice. That's a good It's a good feature. It's a good feature. And
01:15:07
it's good that they're adding it back and not pretending it can only happen in the newest phones. Yeah. Okay.
01:15:12
Interesting. Adam, do you have a crown? Uh, my crown was going to be I had
01:15:19
three, but I'm just going to pick one because I thought it was going to be pretty unanimous and none of you guys picked it. So, I'm going to pick the top
01:15:24
one. I'm going with the Pixel 9a that came out this month. Did it? Did it?
01:15:30
April. It got moved to April. So, that's fair. Okay. All right. Then I'll go to
01:15:36
my backup. Okay. The Sigma BF. Oh, wow. The Sigma Boyfriend. That thing is so I
01:15:42
still can't stop thinking about it. It's funny, completely impractical, but the evolution of the coverage of this camera
01:15:48
online has been so fun to watch because it started off as like what what is Sigma doing? They made this really weird
01:15:54
camera with no card slot and it's also all metal and doesn't look ergonomic and then it shifted to Yeah, this is kind of
01:16:01
what Apple would have done if they made a camera. It's really pretty and it is a Sigma camera and it's not that
01:16:06
expensive. And then people got their hands on the camera and started shooting with it and using it because of all the attention and suddenly it's like, okay,
01:16:12
it doesn't have a viewfinder, but it is kind of fun to shoot with and it does have a couple decently useful features
01:16:18
and suddenly it's like this is kind of a friendly like fun camera and the pictures are good and the pictures are
01:16:23
solid. So it's like it went from being kind of novelty and a quirky weird headline to suddenly an option for
01:16:29
people to actually buy. Yeah. in the last couple months. Can't really use it outside when it's bright outside. Yeah.
01:16:36
No viewfinder, no card slot. It still has weird articulating screen. Yeah.
01:16:42
Yeah. Yeah. But it's so freaking fast. Yeah. And also those series lenses,
01:16:48
they're super affordable and feels insanely premium and also affordable is still a few hundred, but in the lens
01:16:54
world, super affordable. Come on. Yeah. Yeah. What are we talking about here? So that's mine. Pretty cool. If you said
01:17:00
the silver version, I would agree with you, but you left it vague. So, the silver is also really hard to film,
01:17:06
especially outside. It looks so good. I'm not I like personally I like looking at the
01:17:11
silver one more. I think it's beautiful. But if I were to buy one, I probably would just get the Really? Same. I'm not walking around with that giant silver
01:17:18
block hanging around. I would only buy that if I wanted everyone to see that I had it. So, I would buy the silver one.
01:17:24
Imagine putting I think that's where I started when I was looking at this camera. I was like, "Oh, there's a black one, but you have
01:17:30
to get the silver one." That's the whole point of this camera. Now I'm like, "If I was really going to shoot with this, I would get actually going to buy it. I'll
01:17:36
get the black one." Yeah, I get the silver. Silver team silver. You're both wrong. It's fine. Interesting. Okay. I
01:17:42
think image quality is so good. So, our crown options are our first South by Southwest success.
01:17:50
Gemini Live looking through your camera. Um, Android 16 finger unlock fingerprint
01:17:56
unlock. fingerprint unlock toggle and thank you David and Sigma BF mirrorless
01:18:04
camera. How about we do this? We know the winner is all voting for ourselves at South by Southwest. So, let's pick
01:18:10
the second winner. I agree with you. Yeah, that's a good thing to do. That's why I was like, damn it, David. You I
01:18:16
would pick actually useful AI in your phone. I think that's got to be it. I would pick that, too. Damn. I was going
01:18:22
to stick with my Sigma BF, but I guess I'm outvoted. I think I'll go I think the AI is the most useful and the most
01:18:29
reasonable for most of our listeners too. My heart wants to pick the Sigma BF. Sigma is pretty about where your
01:18:36
heart leads. This is Yeah, the Sigma BF and the GFX100 RF had like very my third
01:18:43
option. Oh yeah, they had very intense conversations online and we don't get
01:18:48
that intense of a conversation especially about a camera that often. I think especially the BF had even more
01:18:55
conversations. So, and who really convinced me about it was Vern at the Verge. He posted his like videos and his
01:19:00
pictures. I was like, "Oh, man." Like this in the in the hands of someone who's capable. This thing was doing
01:19:05
work. Yeah, his photos are awesome. I'm actually switched to the BF. Oh, let's go. Come on, Marquez. Considering Adam
01:19:13
voted for the AI, we've been getting like we've been getting the Gemini like
01:19:18
it's been slowly being upgraded like continuously for like so long. Yeah. Can
01:19:23
I ask you a question? How often are you using it? And can you give me a few examples of how you're using it? Cuz
01:19:28
that's always my Sure. I pointed it at a bird in my yard the other day and I said, "What is that?" And it told me
01:19:34
what kind of bird it was. Cuz it looked kind of weird. And I was like, "What kind of bird is that?" Did you fact check that? Uh, I think I googled that name of a
01:19:41
bird later and it was right. Okay. Um, that bird is pointed at 53. I pointed it
01:19:47
at a I Okay, so it doesn't have to be pointed at one thing. I scanned the entire room of all the gym equipment and
01:19:53
then asked me, "What can I do with this equipment and it told me a bunch of different workouts with all the different smoothie can I make with this
01:19:59
gym equipment?" Yeah. So, like you know the demo when you have the Apple the glasses on and look at something and it tells you what to make from those
01:20:04
ingredients. You can just point it at four or five things and then ask it the question and it will do it. Can it do
01:20:10
multimodal on your screen? Like it can see what's on your screen. It can see what's on your screen. Can you open it
01:20:15
right now and ask you why your RCS messages aren't going through? Oo. Whoa.
01:20:20
If it solves that, I think it's automatic. Automatic winner if it There we go. Zero chance it does. I don't
01:20:27
know. Also, is this the Sigma boyfriend or the Sigma Becca Versace? Let's try
01:20:33
this. So, you can see this screen with a text message conversation. The message
01:20:38
is not delivering and I think it's an RCS issue. Can you tell me what the problem is?
01:20:45
Okay, I see what's going on. The message says message delivers when David is online and there's a button to switch to
01:20:51
text SMS/MMS. That means you're trying to send a message using RCS, but David
01:20:57
isn't online or doesn't have RCS enabled. If you switch to SMS/MMS, it'll send as a regular text
01:21:03
message. So, here's the thing. David does have RCS and so do I. So, there
01:21:08
must be some other issue. Okay, since you both have RCS, let's try a few things. First, make sure your mobile
01:21:15
data or Wi-Fi is on as RCS needs internet. If that doesn't work, try
01:21:21
Oh, starting your phone. I don't really want to restart my phone. I also have tried that before.
01:21:30
Well, okay. I understand. Yeah.
01:21:35
All right. Secret. We're pretty far from AGI, my friends. I don't know. Now I'm in on the
01:21:41
It tried. It tried. It valiantly tried. I can see that you have a problem.
01:21:47
I can see that. In its defense, none of us could figure it out. So, I understand why that might upset you. I've also
01:21:53
pointed it at a YouTube video and it read the title of the video and told me what the video would be about. So I didn't have to watch it. Was it about
01:21:59
that? That's terrible. It was right. Yeah. But it's I wonder it's good at a lot of things. How does it handle clickbait that's not about what the
01:22:06
title is? It because it knew the video. It didn't just look at the title. It knew the video. Whoa. Really? Yeah. So,
01:22:12
there's just a lot of things. Matter of fact, I'll just pull up uh this drone deliveries video we just did and see if it can tell me what this While you do
01:22:19
that, there is someone on I think Twitter who's been replying to our auto
01:22:24
posts about the video going live and it asks a bot that does exactly this and
01:22:29
it'll take the video, summarize it in like a paragraph or two. So, I've got it on my screen right now, right? People
01:22:34
just want don't want to tell me what this YouTube video is about. That's why I watch it 2x speed. That looks like
01:22:41
Marquest Brownley's video about the truth of drone deliveries. Did you have any questions about it? What was his
01:22:47
conclusion? His conclusion was that while drone delivery is technically impressive, it's
01:22:54
not as practical or widespread as some people think. He pointed out limitations like battery life, weather restrictions,
01:22:59
and regulations that make it difficult to implement on a large scale. That's both right and wrong. Yeah, it
01:23:06
was a good guess. Also, many people in our Indian audience have told us that drone delivery is actually quite popular
01:23:11
in India, which is in all of India because India is huge. I would not know.
01:23:16
There are some countries that were coming to the top of the comments. Ghana is another one that was like, "Yeah, we do that a lot here." Yeah. Anyway, if if
01:23:24
I can't sway you guys on that, I can I could switch to Sigma. I think we might have to go to Sigma BF is the crown. All
01:23:30
right. Sigma BF Sigma. Of course it's going to take. Now we'll do our clown of the month of
01:23:38
March 2025. Anyone want to take first dibs? First first takers. Okay, Adam's
01:23:45
going. Okay. Yeah. So, have you guys seen the Saratoga water guy? Yes, dude.
01:23:50
CL crown for sure. No crown. No. How is that a crown? Because he for I've never
01:23:58
seen a post explain this. You have to explain. I've never Okay. Yeah. What is it? First of all, what is the video? So,
01:24:03
it's like a video of a guy who's getting up at like 3:00 or 4 in the morning. No, I think it's like 3:00 in the morning or
01:24:09
something like that, and he's going through his like epic morning routine, but there's always Saratoga water in the
01:24:16
shot or he's using it for like dumping his face in it with ice or something like that, and he's drinking it. The the
01:24:23
stock rose like 17% just off of this guy going viral or something. Maybe the YouTubers do have an effect on the
01:24:29
stocks. Yeah, this was a this was one of those cringy uh daily routine videos
01:24:36
that this guy I want to find out what his name was. Ashton Hall. Ashton Hall. He did this. He does a bunch of these and this is a whole genre online, but
01:24:42
it's basically picture the the stereotypical like guy who wakes up at
01:24:48
3:30, dumps his face in ice water, does a workout, takes some work calls, has a
01:24:54
whole day done by noon, eats healthy food, does everything perfectly, and you're like, "Wow, okay. Whoopded this guy. This guy's doing this the most
01:25:00
unrealistic thing ever. To me, it's a crown clearly for two reasons. Okay,
01:25:05
convince pool. One, this guy is self-aware and is playing into it and is
01:25:11
successfully getting a lot of views. I have never seen a post on Twitter get
01:25:18
600 million views. What? Until this one. Are you sure that's real and not just
01:25:23
like impressions? Well, it's I've never seen 600 million impressions on Twitter either. This says it's up to 742
01:25:29
million. I've never seen anything get that many. And two, because now everyone's talking about it and the
01:25:35
company, which let's be honest is probably associated with him in some way, is getting a lot of free. And I
01:25:41
don't know that he I don't think they are. I think it's just like I think he just picked a water that's like a more
01:25:47
like it's a water that makes no sense to brush your teeth with and wash your face with expensive water. It's like nice.
01:25:53
For reference, this is super niche to know this and to be a Top Chef watcher,
01:25:58
but for like 20 seasons, Top Chef was sponsored by San Pelagrino, which is, I'm sure, a bottled water company you've
01:26:03
heard of. The last two or three seasons now, their big sponsorship is Saratoga Spring Water, which is this. What this
01:26:09
guy has done for Saratoga Spring is 10x what Top Chef has ever done for this.
01:26:14
And they're spending hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars. Great. And now everyone's parodying it, too. And they're buying the same water
01:26:21
parody videos. That is a huge crown as well. My thing is I I know that now he's
01:26:26
definitely aware of it and he's capitalizing on it. Mhm. I'm thinking back to how this started. Did he do this
01:26:33
intentionally or did he just have the water there while going through a real
01:26:38
legit morning routine? I'll let you in on a little secret. There. Oh god. Oh god. Remember when I
01:26:45
told you guys there's like tons of different genres on YouTube? Like there's the there's the Apple unboxing YouTube channel. There's the, you know,
01:26:51
every little, there's the I only modify classic Porsches YouTube channel. There are also lots and lots of inspirational
01:26:58
YouTubers who just do routine videos. This is my makeup routine. This is my morning routine. If you go on YouTube,
01:27:04
you will find endless of these videos. And as that got more and more popular, you got more and more extreme versions
01:27:11
of it, the Huberman versions of this where they're just like, I wake up at three o'clock in the morning and I write
01:27:17
down my daily affirmations and I do an hour of yoga and then I do a cold plunge and then I eat my second breakfast and
01:27:24
then I do like that's that's that's a real genre of YouTube is
01:27:29
unrealistic unrealistic daily routine videos. Yeah. This one happened to catch
01:27:36
fire and go viral, but I will tell you now, it is not unlike many hundreds of others that I unfortunately have seen.
01:27:43
This guy found just the right combination of parody and self-awareness
01:27:48
to be like, does this guy really think that this is realistic? Like, I think he nailed this video and that's how he got
01:27:55
700 million views in a week and why we're all talking about it. And I think everyone else in this genre on YouTube
01:28:01
is like, damn, this guy got it. I think there's a a 5050 of this of I think he
01:28:07
does do a lot of inspirational stuff but is going in on the meme because like there's a part where he like wipes his
01:28:13
face down with a banana peel. Nobody does that and doesn't think this is going to go viral. I think he par he
01:28:20
turned parts into parody for sure. And then he posted a picture of like his shopping cart. It was just like Saratoga
01:28:25
spring water and bananas. It's like you all know what this is for. Yeah. I think
01:28:31
there was not one second that this guy wasn't like thinking how can I make this get a lot of views because he's made a
01:28:36
lot of these in the past. So you think this was like premeditated so and I think he I think that is why it's a it's
01:28:44
more of a crown than a clown in my opinion. We'll never know but if if that's the case I I'll agree but I don't
01:28:51
know. It seems like this trend needs to go away already. That's where I'm at. It'll be gone by the time this it's
01:28:56
going to be a meme for like three weeks probably. Anyway, what was your guys clowns? Okay,
01:29:03
there's two real big ones that I know will be said that are you guys thinking that that video matters.
01:29:11
Does someone want to go next? I have a clown. Okay, my clown is the Dodge
01:29:17
Charger EV. Oh, it's a I was thinking about that. We've
01:29:23
talked about this. It's the electric car that makes lots of loud noises like a gas car but isn't as fun. Yeah, that
01:29:30
one. Yeah. Yeah, that's that's my clown. It's a pretty good one. Yeah. Only 240
01:29:36
mi of range. Do you want to go or do you want 86 grand for a Charger? 86. Come
01:29:41
on. But it makes a fun noise. Need I go on? I think you should go cuz I'm still thinking. Okay. I think there's two
01:29:48
pretty big stories. And one of them is uh 23 and me going bankrupt and selling
01:29:53
all of our DNA data to the highest bidder. Feels like a giant clown. Wait, did they sell already? They did not sell
01:30:00
yet. They haven't sold, but it's up for sale. And that's that's a problem. Feels
01:30:05
I should delete my account. Yeah, that's feels super bad. I think there are some articles out there on how to like get as
01:30:12
much as you can off of that as possible, but it, you know, sending your DNA into one of those from the start didn't ever
01:30:17
seem like a good idea. And now it kind of is I agree with you, but um
01:30:22
counterpoint. I was I was 18 and I thought that the
01:30:28
tech industry was not going to become what it is. Wait, what was the old Google saying? Don't be evil. Don't be
01:30:34
evil. I think my clown is that I was not able to make it to the atmosphere
01:30:40
conference this last weekend, which is the AT protocol's first conference for
01:30:45
blue sky. Leave it up to you to somehow turn this into David's I was so stuck in
01:30:50
promise. I couldn't make it to Seattle in time. You were willing to make yourself the clown. Yeah. Yeah. I vote
01:30:58
for that. Actually, I was the clown because I bought one of those insanely cheap tickets that you cannot change.
01:31:04
And I only found out about the conference and that I could go after I bought the tickets and I would have had
01:31:10
to pay $1,000. That is clown. You hate to see it. Yeah. clowning myself. Would you hear Flying United by any chance?
01:31:16
Yeah, you you reminded me of another clown. I guess we'll always take the
01:31:22
opportunity to clown on a There was a story. I don't know if you saw this uh on Twitter apparently, and this was this
01:31:28
was corroborated. There was a flight that took off from LA on the way to China, and then 2 hours into the flight, it turned around and flew back, diverted
01:31:35
to San Francisco because the pilot forgot his passport. Yeah. And I just want to be a fly on the wall for the
01:31:42
moment that he had to announce that to everyone because he flew for two hours. Everyone thought, "All right, time to
01:31:47
post up, relax, chill." And then the plane starts doing that like turn around thing and starts going back and they had
01:31:53
to go, "Hey, uh, hey everybody. We got to Yeah,
01:31:59
that must have been the worst inflight announcement of all time." The thing too is that you can't say there's some you
01:32:04
can't like cover it up and say there's something wrong because you're already over the Pacific Ocean. You're going to
01:32:09
freak everyone out. And for the next two hours and when they landed and everybody got off the plane, they all just went like and everyone got a $15 meal
01:32:17
voucher. That was their result. Two meal vouchers. Sorry, two $15 meal vouchers,
01:32:24
which is for sure better than one. Yeah. So, I'm going to say United Airlines or at least that pilot in that
01:32:30
moment qualifies for the clown. Bummer town. It's got to be. Who among us has not forgotten our passport though? Let's
01:32:35
be real. I did once. Exactly. Luckily, I had enough time and this is extremely
01:32:40
rare to go back home, get it, and go back to the airport. I had the same thing happen. It's crazy. Yeah. Um, what
01:32:46
was I going to say? I don't remember. So, yours is flight related clown. Mine is a flight related
01:32:52
clown. Yeah. Yeah. But the AT protocol conference did happen. It's called the
01:32:58
atmosphere conference. I think it's super cool and I will be at the next one as long as I don't buy a cheap ticket
01:33:04
annual. Hopefully. Gota wait another year. Yeah. How about Oh, how about the Pixel 9a
01:33:11
that was supposed to come out. That was pretty Yeah, the thing is we're never going to find out why, right? Yeah. They
01:33:17
said a potential component issue, which could be any of the components. To be to be fair, it's better to delay a product
01:33:23
if you've caught something early than to release it and have it go wrong. Yeah. We don't know how careful they're being. We don't know if it's like, hey, 10 of
01:33:29
them exploded or if it's like, oh, one of the vibration motors was a little bit weird and we had to replace them all.
01:33:36
It's like, I have no idea what severity of the issue is, but they've addressed it before shipping or taking pre-orders,
01:33:42
and I think that's actually a good thing. But yeah, we don't know what the thing is. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's
01:33:48
selling our DNA to the highest bidder. Selling our DNA, but they haven't done it yet. They're trying. Oh, they will.
01:33:56
Yeah, they're Yeah, I need to delete my data. Everyone on here should look that up. See if it's even possible. I did an
01:34:02
Ancestry.com one a long time ago. And ever since then, they have consistently emailed me anytime someone gets added to
01:34:08
my family tree, meaning someone else takes a test and it turns out they're related to me. Yeah. In any way. And sometimes it's someone that I know. It's
01:34:13
like my dad's cousin or something and it'll be like, "Oh, you're your dad's cousin." And I'm like, "Oh, super cool." I got one the other day that said
01:34:20
second cousin once removed. And I don't know what that means. So, I just
01:34:26
archived it and moved on. My crown is that I thought I had to unplug and replplug my car in, but when I unplugged it, it was already at 95%. Nice. Oh,
01:34:34
you're good. Best thing that happened all month. Imagine if your car had a frat sonic exhaust.
01:34:40
Clown. A fratsonic chambered exhaust. 126 dB.
01:34:46
rumbles your car from the inside. Are the speakers good? No, but
01:34:52
they're loud. I love how competitive Marquez is. He just lost the crown vote by a hair. I
01:35:00
need this one. I'll vote for Charger Eevee. Although, I'm pretty sure hundreds of millions of personal
01:35:07
data getting sold is pretty bad. That's worse. That's 100%. I'm voting for that, dude. I can't vote for it until it happens. As soon as it happens, I'll be
01:35:14
on your side. But we have to give them the benefit of the doubt. All they did was file for bankruptcy. And then every tech company went, "Does that mean that
01:35:20
X company could buy it? That would be horrible." And it would, but it hasn't happened yet. But if they're for sale,
01:35:26
someone will. There's way too many tech companies building their like random
01:35:31
offshoot LLC or whatever so they can buy it without it just being like metabot.
01:35:38
That would be the end times. Paint me a picture. What's the worst that could happen? I don't know enough about it, but find your DNA. They give it to
01:35:47
people you don't want them to give it to. And then they know everything about you, but it's not associated with me.
01:35:54
It's your DNA. It literally is your association. It wasn't the thing that it's not like individually associated
01:36:00
with what I thought. But my question that's confusing is like then how do I log into my account and see my specific
01:36:06
traits then? because it they're saying that you can see your traits but you can't see the data that is your DNA like
01:36:14
showing you the surface. They're surfacing information from the DNA that they analyzed. So people could but if
01:36:20
they the people they sold it to could see my traits. They can see your traits. So they know that I'm likely to grow back hair. Whatever it tells you. They
01:36:27
maybe can see that. I don't even know if that's true. But I don't think they can see your literal DNA. Why would that? I
01:36:35
don't know. What do you have to hide in your D? I don't know, dude. Look, there have been so many times in the tech
01:36:41
industry where I thought that it couldn't be that bad and every time it's even worse. That's just I just, you
01:36:48
know, somebody bought my DNA. What's the worst that could happen? Marquez is
01:36:55
really trying to win this Charger EV worse. It's like Here's an article.
01:37:01
What's here's the worst that could happen if your DNA data is exposed. Those eyes open. 23M's bankruptcy has
01:37:08
some consumer advocates warning customers of the DNA testing company to delete their accounts. Here's why.
01:37:17
I just took a DNA test. Turns out 23 and meion sold my DNA. Chapter 11 doesn't
01:37:24
change how it's stored to guard his data. Any buyer will have to comply by law. Uh the problem is the applicable
01:37:31
laws are incomplete and don't cover this emerging industry. For example, they
01:37:37
employers can't make hiring decisions based on genetic test results yet. Um oh
01:37:43
god, that's a good law. But the law has nothing to say about applying genetic data to other forms of insurance like
01:37:50
life insurance. Boom. It's pretty bad, dude. They might have. You're going to
01:37:56
charge me more for my car insurance because I grow back hair
01:38:02
or like like I don't I feel like Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's wild that there's a lot
01:38:08
of people listening to this podcast that'll be like, "What do you mean by health insurance? What do you guys have to do over here?" Um Yeah. That seems
01:38:15
like a pretty straightforward law. That's well the health insurance thing. Cannot deny coverage based
01:38:21
on genetic profile. They'll find a way. I'll find a way. This feels like the the
01:38:28
little like progressive thing you put in your car to see how you drive around. Except now it's just my DNA for my
01:38:33
insurance instead. Before you drive away in this car, spit in this tube.
01:38:39
Oh, your insurance went up. That's crazy. All right. So, I'll give you Marquez. Mhm. You're What are you voting
01:38:45
for? The fratsonic chambered exhaust.
01:38:52
I think that's the worst thing that happened this month. gets worse. Have you heard this car drive
01:38:58
by 126 dB of Seriously, dude? Yeah, every time. Does the car sell your DNA
01:39:04
to insurance companies? It doesn't say it doesn't. Worse, it loops an MP3. It
01:39:09
tells everyone that you drive by exactly who you are, you know. All right. Damn. Mic drop. I'm
01:39:16
just saying. Um, we will we'll let the comment section vote. How about that? I don't
01:39:25
We're gonna have to figure something out. How to get the segment here. The segment being we all have to agree
01:39:30
really threw it. It made it hard. This version of the segment was already the most polished out of all. I thought we
01:39:36
were democratic around here. Why aren't we just democratic? All right. So, I'm going fratzog. Are you going fratzog?
01:39:41
Are you going fratzog? Are you going fratzog? Over 23 and me potentially. Okay. Here's
01:39:49
what I'll say. Okay. I'm going to go the Daytona. Oh my god. Specifically because nothing bad has happened yet. That's
01:39:57
also my lesson. I understand politics so much better now. This is always what happens behind closed doors. Yeah. Yeah.
01:40:03
Um the April clown could be catastrophic, but here we are in March. Nothing's happened
01:40:09
yet. It's like, you know, it's Marquez's like, you know what, it hasn't happened yet. Next, April clown. Um, United now
01:40:18
owns 23 and me. So, yeah, I think that's my only logical argument. Here we go.
01:40:24
Yeah, I agree. Okay. Hell yeah. What the join us on the logical train, David. I
01:40:29
don't know about this. Is more like the jury duty that just wants to be over with. In fact, you should be happy that they went bankrupt cuz they were going
01:40:35
to do some crazy things with that information anyway. So, they're bankrupt. Let you know. They were actually doing
01:40:41
some pretty cool things, but at this point, cool. Okay. Okay, let's We got him, ladies and gentlemen. We got him.
01:40:49
What better time to do the trivia? Oh my god. All right, whiteboard and a eraser. This
01:40:57
is uh running a little long probably, but it's fine. It's fine. We'll fix it in post. So, question. Oh, actually,
01:41:03
first quick update on the score cuz I forgot to do it last week. Marquez, don't tell me with 13. Okay, lucky.
01:41:12
Andrew with six. Okay, David carrying the two with 15. All right, good. Here
01:41:18
we go. I did think I was ahead by two. Yeah. Question one. Which of these games was not
01:41:25
available on the PS1? A. Gran Turismo, B. Crash Bandicoot, C.
01:41:33
Final Fantasy, D. Call of Duty: World at War, or E. All of these were available
01:41:39
on the PS1. Dump tip dip
01:41:54
tip. Flip them and read. What do we got?
01:41:59
Oh god. Okay, we are all on the same page here. No, we're not. Oh, that's not the same. We are. No, it is. Oh, are we?
01:42:05
It is the same. Oh, yeah. There's an E. Sorry. Okay. Yeah, we all said I said D. You said Call of Duty. You said David is
01:42:11
right. We all said D for Call of Duty. I said, "Yeah." All right. Heyo. Was it
01:42:16
that easy? I thought that was a difficult one. I was torn between C and D. I picked D. Call of Duty came out on
01:42:21
PS2, so I thought that might trip you a little. Yeah, but Call of Duty feels newer than all those other games. Call of Duty World of Wars. The second one
01:42:27
also. Yeah, that's kind of what I was hoping for. Did the first one come out on PS1? The first one was on PC only. I
01:42:34
think I played it on the computer. There were computers for what's a computer? Question two. When was airdrop
01:42:40
announced? A airdrop. Okay, I got to think about this one. Air drop. Air drop. You will get one point for the year, two points
01:42:47
for the month, three points for the month, day and year, four points if you could tell me all of that plus who
01:42:54
announced it. Thank you. Who announced it? Oh, the guy or person. The person
01:42:59
that announced it. Actually, I'll just make each of those things one point. Wait, hold
01:43:05
on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I'm still writing. Can you do it again? No, flip them and read. David, David, David.
01:43:14
Okay, who wants to go first? Okay, so my logic is like, wait, I'm such a They had
01:43:19
to have things to airdrop between. So, I kind of tried to pick like right after the iPad came out. Shoot. Sorry. So, I
01:43:25
said continue. I went July 2010 just to be summer 2010. And I said it was Jaws.
01:43:32
I'm so fortunately you only got one point. Okay. The year. The month it was
01:43:38
July. It was July. Yeah. All right. My logic was my marker ran out of ink and I did not have a lot of time. So I wrote
01:43:44
three things down very quickly. 2013. Nope. March. Right. I know is wrong.
01:43:49
Nope. And I wrote the 17th as who announced it. I thought we were guessing the day also. Well, yeah, if you wanted
01:43:55
to. You guess. No. All right. Um, okay. Look, I have to
01:44:03
preempt this. I didn't mean what I wrote, but I guess I'm gonna have to lay
01:44:09
it out there. Okay. What is gonna clown on me? Is it iOS 5? Not a date. Yeah.
01:44:17
Okay. Now I'm like,
01:44:23
oh, 2011. But what did you write? Wrote 2007.
01:44:29
It was 2011. Oh, I was I thought iPhone and I wrote
01:44:35
2007, but I meant to write 2001. That's unfortunate. I hate myself. Was that I was five, right? I don't know. Yeah, I'm
01:44:41
a god. Okay, so I wrote June, but June But my You never wrote who who announced
01:44:48
it. I was also going to write Jaws, but I didn't. But what he ate for breakfast that morning
01:44:55
was definitely an scrambled eggs. What the fata? I want a I want a petition for
01:45:02
a point for being the closest in date, but I'll let it slide. Can anyone give
01:45:08
me a point for knowing it was 2011 but not writing it? No.
01:45:13
Nope. No. The correct answer. The thing is I just thought of iPhone and I wrote Yeah. Give us the correct answer. It was
01:45:20
July 20th, 2011 announced by Phil Schiller. Oh yeah. Oh
01:45:25
yeah. Yeah. Mr. Phil iOS 5, right? Seven according to Andrew airdrop.
01:45:32
Well, according to Google's AI overview, I assumed it was a dubdub reference, which is why I went with the summer. I'm
01:45:38
pretty sure that's correct. Paid off. No matter what, I am one point closer to David and that's all that matters here
01:45:45
at the end of the day. Thank you for watching and listening. This is probably our rambliest, craziest episode in a
01:45:51
while, but that's just how it goes. We don't have Ellis to rein us in. Yeah, sometimes we don't have Ellis to re us in and we just go absolutely nuts. And
01:45:57
now the comments are flaming me about lossless audio and that's okay. Thanks for watching and listening. Catch you
01:46:03
guys next week. Peace. Goodbye. Wait for produced by Adam Molina and Ellis Rubin.

01:46:30
No, here I'm asking Gemini. Based on this document, which is a podcast script, what would you title the episode?
01:46:35
Flip versus fold. Why not both? What about that? Flip versus fold. Oh, that's just such a And it rhymes. Based on this
01:46:42
document, the episode should be titled episode 281. Sick. Yo, that's not bad. Google.
01:46:50
Damn, that's good. That might do numbers. That might do numbers.
