00:00:05
question is really is there a choice do
00:00:07
they have a choice whether they can or
00:00:09
can't uh go into digital transformation
00:00:12
I guess the world has been just taken by
00:00:16
a tsunami which has hit uh you know the
00:00:21
industry government academia you name it
00:00:25
all I mean in my last 35 years I've seen
00:00:28
seen many transformations having taken
00:00:32
place and uh this inflection point is
00:00:35
one which uh is the mother of them
00:00:38
all and uh I say that because uh you
00:00:41
know the time in which things are
00:00:44
happening is getting
00:00:46
compressed and compressed uh quite
00:00:50
radically
00:00:52
and
00:00:55
the leadership of most of these
00:00:57
companies have been caught off guard.
00:00:59
They knew it was coming. It's it's just
00:01:01
that they didn't know at what pace it
00:01:02
was coming. So these changes have been
00:01:05
quite uh substantive in nature. And I I
00:01:08
really think that companies don't have a
00:01:11
choice but to go the digital
00:01:13
transformation way.
00:01:18
Digital transformation uh first of all
00:01:21
it's not just bringing in uh bits and
00:01:24
pieces of uh uh mobility or cloud and
00:01:29
calling that digital transformation. As
00:01:31
the word transformation suggests, it is
00:01:34
a substantive change done in a very
00:01:36
short period of time. And uh in the
00:01:41
uh way that digital transformation is
00:01:44
taking place, we have
00:01:47
uh uh companies that have completely
00:01:51
uh you know changed the face of
00:01:55
uh the business landscape in in the way
00:01:59
they transact with uh with consumers.
00:02:03
So it may in many cases it would require
00:02:07
uh almost rethinking the processes and
00:02:11
the methodologies and the way to engage
00:02:14
with uh
00:02:16
customers. Having said that uh you can't
00:02:19
let go off with your existing
00:02:21
businesses. The physical world is there.
00:02:23
The analog world is there to stay. It it
00:02:25
would erode rapidly. That's a different
00:02:27
thing. digital will come in but it's got
00:02:30
to be a situation where you are in a
00:02:32
biodal world and you've got to you know
00:02:34
you you got to coexist with both and you
00:02:37
know as uh things develop in the digital
00:02:41
uh arena you've you've got to start uh
00:02:43
cutting costs on the on the analog side
00:02:46
so I guess for some time which may be
00:02:49
anything between 2 years 3 years who
00:02:51
knows but your preparedness to deal with
00:02:54
both these and the uncertainties that
00:02:57
exist around both these is going to be
00:02:59
here to
00:03:03
stay. Frankly, you don't just convince
00:03:06
them at all. Everybody knows that it's
00:03:08
there. the the uh real issue is about uh
00:03:13
uh identifying uh you know the specific
00:03:17
projects or the specific programs and uh
00:03:21
you know today a number of companies
00:03:23
have randomly allocated budgets because
00:03:26
the leadership knows that they've got to
00:03:29
make investments in in going the digital
00:03:31
way and each proposal has to be viewed
00:03:34
in its uh in its uh you know in its own
00:03:38
uh you know on its own merit in terms of
00:03:40
what uh uh kind of return on investment
00:03:42
are you going to get out of this. So the
00:03:45
way to look at it is that over a
00:03:47
three-year period, if you're going to
00:03:48
undertake a new way of doing things, a
00:03:50
new way of engaging with customers,
00:03:52
you've got to take a look at what what
00:03:54
is the net present value that you are
00:03:56
going to derive out of this program
00:03:58
having invested that sort of
00:04:00
money. It's easier said than done
00:04:03
because the uncertainties uh exist
00:04:05
whether it is on the customer side or it
00:04:08
is on the uh on the vendor side. You
00:04:13
have to take an approach where it is a
00:04:15
collaborative approach and which is why
00:04:18
at emphasis we have taken the approach
00:04:19
of being uh in undertaking businesses
00:04:24
you know or opportunities on a
00:04:28
um uh collaborative way you know. So we
00:04:31
cocreate
00:04:33
uh you know the uh new opportunities
00:04:37
that uh we identify
00:04:44
Well, I can certainly say that the
00:04:46
investments will more than pay pay back
00:04:48
for themselves and in a very short
00:04:50
period of time. the the the sheer fact
00:04:54
that you are having a allconnected world
00:04:58
today. We heard that uh you
00:05:01
know in a on a planet of uh which has 7
00:05:06
billion people. There are 3 billion
00:05:09
devices that exist already who are
00:05:11
connected and two and a half billion of
00:05:14
them are smartphones. when you've got
00:05:16
such staggering numbers, you know, the
00:05:19
the return on investments using the
00:05:22
digital medium is going to be uh far
00:05:25
quicker and
00:05:28
uh you know so there wouldn't be really
00:05:30
a need to go into any major
00:05:33
justifications in my
