afterlife it is perhaps a fundamental
00:00:28
question of the ages the ultimate
00:00:30
mystery what happens when we die
00:00:34
physical death does not exist the body
00:00:37
dies but there's a new body waiting for
00:00:40
you and you simply step into that and
00:00:44
there you are I know it's like to die I
00:00:47
know what it's like to see the other
00:00:49
side and I know what it's like to come
00:00:50
back
00:00:52
in recent years thousands of credible
00:00:55
people have come forward with remarkable
00:00:57
accounts of a transcendent journey to
00:00:59
the brink of death they have returned
00:01:02
transformed by what they believe was a
00:01:04
glimpse into a life after this life the
00:01:11
explosion of interest in such near-death
00:01:13
experiences has generated lively and
00:01:15
controversial debate many people are now
00:01:18
convinced traditional views of heaven
00:01:20
and hell may soon give way to a new
00:01:22
concept what lies beyond the grave in

00:01:27
about life death and the Hereafter
00:01:35
in 1975 dannion brinkley was struck down
00:01:39
by a powerful bolt of lightning his
00:01:41
miraculous near-death experience very
00:01:43
literally changed his life
00:01:46
when Karen Walker died of cancer at 21
00:01:50
her grief-stricken parents embarked on a
00:01:52
spiritual journey that they say enabled
00:01:55
them to communicate with Karen's spirit
00:01:58
to all appearances Heidi Wyrick seems
00:02:01
like any other eight year old but Heidi
00:02:04
has consistently described strange
00:02:05
visions of people no one else can see
00:02:08
real people passed away long before
00:02:11
Heidi was even born is as simply her
00:02:14
imagination but as Heidi have a special
00:02:17
gift that enables her to move among the
00:02:19
dead join us with a special report as we

00:02:59
you're about to meet a psychic named
00:03:01
dannion brinkley is perhaps best known
00:03:04
for his book saved by the light a
00:03:06
dramatic account of his brush with the
00:03:08
afterlife danya's is a remarkable story
00:03:11
made more remarkable by the manner in
00:03:14
which he apparently acquired his psychic
00:03:16
powers it was on a blustery night some
00:03:22
20 years ago September 17th 1975 severe
00:03:27
thunderstorms were sweeping through the
00:03:29
southeast Daniel then 25 was at home and
00:03:37
Aiken South Carolina with his wife sandy
00:03:40
hey Tommy dannion was on the phone with
00:03:43
his best friend Tom when the storm
00:03:45
passed directly overhead
00:03:53
[Music]
00:03:57
at least 180 thousand volts of
00:04:00
electricity shot through Daniels body a
00:04:03
jolt so powerful it left his shoes
00:04:06
welded to the floor I couldn't move I
00:04:12
couldn't scream I couldn't talk I didn't
00:04:13
know what had happened I was on fire and
00:04:15
burning and then all of a sudden I'm out
00:04:18
of my body I saw sandy checking me to
00:04:24
see if I was breathing and start to work
00:04:26
on me and push it on my chest and
00:04:28
clearing my airway
00:04:30
Tommy heard the explosion and he was on
00:04:32
his way over he got there he was a
00:04:34
corpsman in the Navy he wrapped me he
00:04:36
went to work on me
00:04:37
he's trying to get my heart started he's
00:04:39
pushing he's breathing in my mouth he's
00:04:41
talking to me I look over his shoulder
00:04:45
and in my mind the first thing I thought
00:04:48
is I always thought I was a bit much
00:04:50
better-looking guy than that but I never
00:04:53
got a chance to think anymore about it
00:04:56
for all intents and purposes dannion
00:04:59
brinkley was clinically dead he claims
00:05:02
that he then embarked on what has come
00:05:03
to be recognized as a classic near-death
00:05:06
experience
00:05:09
I start down this tunnel I see what
00:05:16
appears to be a form coming out of this
00:05:18
beautiful misty blue then all of a
00:05:22
sudden I saw a panoramic life review I
00:05:25
not only felt everything I'd ever done
00:05:28
and saw everything I'd ever done I
00:05:29
became every person that I had ever
00:05:32
encountered in his youth dannion was by
00:05:36
his own admission self-centered and mean
00:05:38
nothing short of a bully the pattern
00:05:41
continued during a tour of duty in
00:05:43
Southeast Asia Daniel says he was now
00:05:46
forced to confront those he had
00:05:48
victimized through the years
00:05:52
I felt the pain and the anguish and the
00:05:55
anger and the frustration and I had
00:05:57
caused these people and you know it
00:06:01
people don't realize that you judge
00:06:04
yourself when this happens you just
00:06:06
judge yourself and that's what I did
00:06:12
dannion was rushed to the hospital in
00:06:14
the emergency room his breathing
00:06:16
faltered then stopped minutes later
00:06:21
Daniel's best friend Tom Hall was told
00:06:24
that he was dead I just had a hard time
00:06:27
dealing with this so they wheeled Danny
00:06:30
into this little dark room I have no
00:06:37
idea what made me go back in there I
00:06:39
just had to see for myself
00:06:41
and I just felt like you know that he
00:06:44
wasn't gone and I saw the sheet moving I
00:06:49
all of a sudden went from a spiritual
00:06:52
place in world back into this place
00:06:54
where I'm in a hospital I'm under this
00:06:56
sheet and I'm looking up at it I can't
00:07:00
move I can't talk I'm going far again
00:07:11
miraculously dannion brinkley returned
00:07:14
to life nearly 28 minutes after he says
00:07:18
he had been declared dead doctor William
00:07:22
said he's in pretty bad shape the way it
00:07:24
looks that the lightening went down his
00:07:26
back and I think he's just shattered his
00:07:28
nerve system the doctors never did say
00:07:34
he'll die alone he only ever he never
00:07:37
didn't you just said well taking one
00:07:39
minute at a time or one hour at a time
00:07:41
or one day at a time after a week in the
00:07:46
hospital dannion was released he was
00:07:49
hardly able to walk or talk his eyes
00:07:51
were so light-sensitive that he had to
00:07:54
wear dark welders glasses at all times I
00:07:57
was partially paralyzed for seven months
00:08:00
and it took two years to learn to walk
00:08:03
and feed myself and I had a lot of time
00:08:06
to lie on my back hurting so bad falling
00:08:08
down and blacking out and breaking my
00:08:10
nose and not knowing where I was but the
00:08:13
visions and things that had happened in
00:08:15
this now what we call the near-death
00:08:17
experience have stayed with me longer
00:08:19
and more coherently than virtually
00:08:21
anything that ever
00:08:26
dannion remembered being led into what
00:08:28
looked like a magnificent glowing
00:08:30
Cathedral which he recognized as a place
00:08:32
of learning before him were thirteen
00:08:35
figures which he calls beings dannion
00:08:39
says the beings approached him one at a
00:08:41
time each thrusting a box towards him
00:08:43
inside of each box were tiny images of
00:08:47
an event yet to happen dannion claims it
00:08:51
all together he witnessed 117 future
00:08:54
occurrences including the election of
00:08:57
Ronald Reagan the collapse of the Soviet
00:09:00
Union and the Gulf War in 1991 dannion
00:09:06
leaders shared his visions with several
00:09:08
of his friends who are not willing to
00:09:10
verify that dannion did indeed predict
00:09:12
events before they happened dannion
00:09:16
first mate had started making his
00:09:17
predictions as as he was convalescing he
00:09:21
was talking about
00:09:22
wormwood which we became Chernobyl he
00:09:25
was talking about the Foods lines in
00:09:27
Russia butter starving and it was just a
00:09:30
lot of predictions that you know yeah I
00:09:33
didn't pay that much attention to him at
00:09:34
the time he'd always talked about the
00:09:37
Gulf War and the collapse of communism
00:09:40
and things like that but at the time you
00:09:42
didn't think that much about it but then
00:09:43
when it came about is when you really
00:09:45
start thinking about it Daniel now
00:09:53
believes that his near-death experience
00:09:55
marked the birth of his psychic
00:09:56
abilities but in the months just after
00:10:00
the accident he admits he was simply a
00:10:03
dazed and bewildered young man would
00:10:05
undergone a dramatic transformation
00:10:06
crazy you being dead no it's just it
00:10:10
Tommy I wouldn't do it I was really
00:10:13
confused I've never heard of the
00:10:15
near-death experience and I literally
00:10:17
was driving people nuts cuz I wanted
00:10:19
somebody to tell me either it didn't
00:10:20
happen which I knew it did and please
00:10:26
explain it I've been astounded at the
00:10:30
number of people I've met who have had
00:10:32
such an experience almost a year after
00:10:35
the accident
00:10:35
spring of 1976 dannion attended a
00:10:38
lecture given by dr. Raymond Moody
00:10:41
one of the country's earliest
00:10:42
authorities on near-death experiences
00:10:44
very notions of death that day changed
00:10:48
my life forever because that's when I
00:10:51
knew I wasn't completely crazy someone
00:10:54
has had a similar experience dr. moody
00:10:58
I've had one of them experiences it gave
00:11:02
me a way for someone who was kind and
00:11:06
understanding to explain to me what
00:11:09
might have happened to me when I heard
00:11:11
his account it seemed very consistent
00:11:15
with what I had heard from many other
00:11:17
people I saw this light and I started
00:11:20
going towards it it's something that
00:11:22
happens to quite a number of patients
00:11:24
who get resuscitated following cardiac
00:11:26
arrest and therefore for that reason
00:11:28
doctors need to know about this so that
00:11:30
they can reassure the patient that
00:11:32
they're not alone that in fact that this
00:11:34
occurs fairly frequently dr. moody is
00:11:39
also able to verify at least one of
00:11:42
Daniels predictions and and things about
00:11:44
the future things were gonna happen to
00:11:46
our country in April of 1976 he told me
00:11:52
that in 1990 there was going to be a
00:11:56
breakdown of the Soviet Union and that
00:11:59
there would be food disturbances and
00:12:02
riots and connection with it
00:12:06
in the nineteen years since his
00:12:08
near-death experience dannion has honed
00:12:10
his psychic abilities recently those
00:12:13
abilities were put to the test when
00:12:15
dannion was asked to consult on a brutal
00:12:17
murder case on august 12th 1993 John and
00:12:25
Nancy Bosco a Bigfork Montana had been
00:12:28
shot to death
00:12:28
execution-style as they slept the police
00:12:32
investigation turned up absolutely no
00:12:34
leads
00:12:35
two months later John's mother Tony met
00:12:38
with dannion brinkley he immediately
00:12:41
began to describe a suspect this is a
00:12:46
kid this is a slight bill kid with black
00:12:50
hair this is someone who knows John he
00:12:55
knew the layout of this house he's away
00:12:58
at college in the very early part of
00:13:01
December this little kid will be caught
00:13:04
and he's in a college somewhere out west
00:13:06
I have to say that I just shook my head
00:13:08
and I thought to myself I made a mistake
00:13:10
and coming down dannion doesn't know
00:13:13
this this isn't gonna get me anywhere I
00:13:15
couldn't begin to make sense out of what
00:13:17
he was saying
00:13:19
but amazingly dannion brinkley was
00:13:21
correct on all counts just as he
00:13:24
predicted a suspect 18-year old shadow
00:13:27
Clark was arrested in December and later
00:13:29
convicted incredibly Clark had lived in
00:13:33
the murder house did know the boscoe's
00:13:35
penny was attending college in the West
00:13:38
dannion had apparently solved the case
00:13:41
through the power of his mind this is
00:13:45
new to me and sometimes it's troublesome
00:13:48
because I pick up things that I don't
00:13:51
want to know about and if someone's
00:13:53
intense around me I'm perceiving it but
00:13:55
and I try to I'm still trying to figure
00:13:58
out ways to turn it off okay and at the
00:14:01
same time ways to perfect it
00:14:07
enjoy the experiments in an attempt to
00:14:12
verify Daniels purported powers noted
00:14:14
Paris psychologist dr. William role
00:14:16
observed dannion in a series of tests
00:14:21
well if I just see your hand okay
00:14:24
Daniel gave readings for eight people he
00:14:26
had never met before and several
00:14:29
instances he picked out details about
00:14:33
the lives of these individuals there
00:14:35
were facts that he could not have known
00:14:41
it was like you knew when to pull out
00:14:44
and that's recognized by your family
00:14:46
from the brief experiments that we did
00:14:50
this time I would say he's one of the
00:14:55
more remarkable psychics that I have
00:14:58
worked with for sure
00:14:59
and perhaps in the country today dannion
00:15:10
brinkley devotes much of his time to
00:15:11
volunteering at hospices and nursing
00:15:14
homes throughout the country dannion
00:15:17
believes that his own profound
00:15:18
experience has left him uniquely
00:15:20
qualified to counsel others they say you
00:15:29
never can know what it's like until
00:15:30
you've been there I know what it's like
00:15:32
to be afraid I know what it's like to
00:15:35
face death I know what happens when the
00:15:38
doctors and the religious world loses
00:15:41
its credibility to you at certain stages
00:15:45
morning how do you feel you did fine you
00:15:48
have the flowers looking really great
00:15:51
perhaps the most remarkable aspect of
00:15:54
Banyon story is as transformation from
00:15:56
the self-centered bully of his youth to
00:15:58
the Good Samaritan of today I have found
00:16:02
a way to receive love from people and
00:16:04
hospices and nursing homes and I don't
00:16:07
know if that's balanced in the books but
00:16:10
I don't care whether that is or not for
00:16:13
I've dealt with it and I've dealt with
00:16:15
all that I've been and all that's
00:16:17
happened to me
00:16:17
and I dealt with it and then I went to
00:16:20
work if dannion brinkley was an isolated
00:16:26
case it might be easy to explain away or
00:16:28
perhaps even dismiss but incredibly some
00:16:32
researchers estimate that more than
00:16:33
eight million Americans have had a
00:16:35
near-death experience while few claimed
00:16:37
will become psychics many of them
00:16:39
describe a journey fantastically similar
00:16:42
to dannion brinkley z--
00:16:47
as I went unconscious all I saw was
00:16:51
darkness that darkness gradually took
00:16:54
the shape of the tunnel and way off
00:16:58
absolutely positively to infinity
00:17:00
appeared this little speck of white
00:17:02
light this was the most beautiful thing
00:17:05
that I'd ever experienced in my life it
00:17:07
was just extraordinary
00:17:09
I then experienced a complete total life
00:17:13
review I was then given a choice to
00:17:17
return to normal life or stay and become
00:17:20
part of this light prior to this
00:17:23
experience what I had figured out was
00:17:26
that when you die you die the show is
00:17:28
over everything goes black and that's it
00:17:30
I had thought about such things as
00:17:32
religion and so on and I thought that it
00:17:34
was just a bunch of foolishness I didn't
00:17:38
really know where I was
00:17:40
it's just I looked up and I saw this
00:17:43
bright light at the end of a tunnel and
00:17:47
there were colored bricks on the walls
00:17:50
of the tunnel and then I saw this lady
00:17:54
she took my hand she said I'm Elizabeth
00:17:58
and I will help you
00:18:00
she just led me into the light and
00:18:03
through the light and into heaven I just
00:18:07
felt that this was the place I wanted to
00:18:10
be it I was still alive there was still
00:18:15
a part of me like my soul my spirit was
00:18:18
still alive I wasn't dead at all the
00:18:24
near-death experience is not a recent
00:18:26
phenomenon reports of people coming back
00:18:29
from the dead date to the Middle Ages
00:18:31
however over the last two decades
00:18:34
advances and modern medicine made
00:18:36
dramatic resuscitation much more
00:18:38
frequent there's no question in my mind
00:18:42
that near-death experiences are real to
00:18:46
the people to whom they happen that is
00:18:49
that it's interpreted as a real event it
00:18:52
makes enormous change in their life and
00:18:54
so on and so it's in that sense it's a
00:18:57
part of their reality but for the rest
00:19:00
of us you haven't had that kind of
00:19:02
experience we just can't know we can't
00:19:04
know based on what someone else says or
00:19:08
reports
00:19:10
is the near-death experience truly a
00:19:13
peek into the afterlife or is it the
00:19:15
physical manifestation of the human body
00:19:18
breaking down as it dies dr. Susan
00:19:22
Blackmore
00:19:22
a psychologist believes all the major
00:19:24
components of the near-death experience
00:19:27
can be explained there are two main
00:19:33
things that we need to understand that
00:19:34
are happening in the brain either when
00:19:36
it comes close to death always under
00:19:37
severe stress one of these is a lack of
00:19:39
oxygen
00:19:41
the tunnel is a good example of
00:19:43
something I think we can explain in
00:19:45
terms of what's happening in the brain
00:19:46
in the visual cortex where all visual
00:19:49
information is processed we know that
00:19:51
the way the cells are laid out is so
00:19:53
that there are lots and lots of cells
00:19:54
towards the middle of what you're
00:19:55
looking at fading out towards lots of
00:19:57
the outside now when you come close to
00:19:59
death or are under severe stress what
00:20:01
happens is that all these cells start
00:20:02
randomly firing well what's that going
00:20:04
to look like it's going to look like a
00:20:06
bright light in the middle fading off
00:20:08
towards dark at the outside
00:20:10
then you'll find that lack of oxygen
00:20:13
will produce visions hallucinations
00:20:15
flashbacks to one's past life and even
00:20:17
feelings of floating flying and
00:20:19
out-of-body experiences endorphins also
00:20:22
can do that they act to make you feel
00:20:25
relaxed floating Pleasant is a very very
00:20:29
nice feeling terrible things might be
00:20:31
happening your body might be down there
00:20:32
blood all over the place um you know but
00:20:34
it feels okay and I think it candidates
00:20:37
best lead to a kind of mystical
00:20:38
acceptance which can be quite profound I
00:20:41
would have to say that some of the
00:20:43
things they're saying is true that that
00:20:46
may be happening to some it may be
00:20:48
hallucinations to others but then there
00:20:50
are those of us that move to step past
00:20:53
that and we have a soul we're powerful
00:20:56
spiritual beings I'm starting where
00:20:59
their definitions and explanations that
00:21:01
leave off many people argue that if you
00:21:04
can understand all these experiences in
00:21:06
terms of brain chemicals that somehow
00:21:08
makes them unimportant but not so at all
00:21:10
the fact that you can see your life in a
00:21:13
different context feel different about
00:21:15
yourself and about other people see
00:21:17
what's important and what isn't
00:21:18
important that's what changes lives I
00:21:20
don't mind if that's created by brain
00:21:22
chemicals or going to heaven the
00:21:23
important fact is that it may can make
00:21:25
you a better person
00:21:26
the explanations that I have heard
00:21:29
proposed of near-death experiences are
00:21:32
interesting and of course you know we
00:21:35
should encourage physiological studies
00:21:38
of everything all kinds of mental states
00:21:41
and so on but my assessment is that we
00:21:45
just don't know the answer to this yet
00:21:47
and that I don't feel myself in any
00:21:51
great hurry to come to the answer yet I
00:21:54
mean it's a mystery if we are to believe
00:21:57
even for an instant that the living can
00:22:00
go to the brink of death and return then
00:22:02
we must consider another incredible
00:22:04
possibility can the dead themselves come
00:22:07
back from the other side perhaps to take
00:22:10
care of unfinished business
00:22:18
the death of a family member is perhaps
00:22:21
one of the most difficult experiences
00:22:22
any of us will ever endure who among us
00:22:26
is not longed for just one final
00:22:27
opportunity to speak with a departed
00:22:29
loved one incredibly a woman in Southern
00:22:32
California believe she got that chance
00:22:35
after the death of her daughter
00:22:39
Karen Walker was the only child of Jean
00:22:42
and Tom Walker born in 1949 Karen had
00:22:46
what would be considered a perfectly
00:22:48
ordinary upbringing Karen was a very
00:22:53
imaginative child a very affectionate
00:22:56
person very bright red extensively from
00:23:01
the time she was about three I no longer
00:23:03
had to read to her she would read the
00:23:05
stories to me instead which was
00:23:06
wonderful one story in particular would
00:23:11
come to symbolize the closeness Karen
00:23:13
and her parents felt from each other the
00:23:15
three musketeers the familiar phrase all
00:23:19
for one one for all became the Walker
00:23:21
family motto when Karen was 17 the
00:23:26
family circle expanded to include her
00:23:28
new boyfriend Jim Alvarado Karen and Jim
00:23:34
seemed an unlikely match Jim came from a
00:23:37
large working-class family he was a poor
00:23:39
student we'd been told he'd never amount
00:23:42
to much Karen knew better she saw
00:23:46
something in me in terms of potential as
00:23:48
far as my intellect was concerned you're
00:23:50
right and even though she at that time
00:23:52
she didn't know you know what I lack
00:23:54
necessarily in academic skills although
00:23:56
over that period of time in study hall
00:23:58
she began to learn and she began to help
00:24:01
me even then but still there were times
00:24:05
when Jim's mind would wander Karen had
00:24:08
her own special way of getting him back
00:24:10
on track and she would get my attention
00:24:20
and and I would straighten up and and
00:24:22
and get back to work and and do what I
00:24:25
had to do she was my tutor she was my
00:24:27
helper she was my friend and somebody
00:24:31
who I love very very much in December of
00:24:36
1969 when Karen was 20 tragedy struck
00:24:39
the cause of a lingering pain in her
00:24:42
right leg was finally diagnosed Karen
00:24:45
had Ewing sarcoma a rare usually fatal
00:24:48
form of cancer
00:24:50
we reacted with horror but with
00:24:54
determination we were going to see to it
00:24:56
that she got well the three musketeers
00:24:58
were gonna stay together Karen began an
00:25:03
exhaustive regimen of radiation and
00:25:05
chemotherapy treatments then on February
00:25:09
20th 1970 Garen suffered an agonizing
00:25:13
setback karen woke up about five o'clock
00:25:18
in the morning my pain in her leg for
00:25:23
the first time in a long time she had
00:25:24
been going through the cobalt therapy
00:25:26
and the pain had disappeared and
00:25:28
suddenly the pain was excruciating okay
00:25:35
I moved to the cancer had eaten the bone
00:25:37
completely through the bone was no
00:25:39
longer there through it all
00:25:43
Karen's spirit was indomitable Jim
00:25:46
proposed in March and a wedding date was
00:25:48
set December 19th
00:25:50
1970 but on December 7th the Karen
00:25:56
lapsed into a coma though devastated
00:25:59
Tom and Jean accepted the inevitable
00:26:02
from the time Karen was in the hospital
00:26:06
Tom would bring her every day a single
00:26:09
red rose and that was just kind of a
00:26:11
symbol between them they you know that
00:26:13
was their little affectionate thing that
00:26:16
they did
00:26:22
I want you to know that if you have to
00:26:25
leave us me and your mom we understand
00:26:30
remember what whatever happens to what
00:26:34
we'll always be together remember what
00:26:39
we used to say about the three
00:26:40
musketeers how we'd always stick
00:26:43
together yeah one for all and all for
00:26:47
one when I learned that the tumor had
00:26:55
gone into the brain I knew we had
00:26:58
reached to the end she woke up in the
00:27:03
middle of the night and I held her hand
00:27:05
and asked her how she was because that
00:27:09
was first time she had talked to me in
00:27:10
nine days
00:27:17
it's time I can't go on like this
00:27:21
anymore
00:27:22
I can't think anymore I understand
00:27:26
is it okay of course please tell Dad and
00:27:33
tell Jim that it was my decision that I
00:27:36
was ready to go I will I promise
00:27:40
[Music]
00:27:51
[Music]
00:27:54
and as I was watching something went out
00:27:59
of the top of her head had just lifted
00:28:02
and it was like a wisp of smoke or fog
00:28:05
or something and as I saw that happen I
00:28:08
said goodbye Karen Karen died on
00:28:14
December 17th two days before she would
00:28:17
have been married I was devastated I was
00:28:22
you know not really feeling any any
00:28:24
physical pain but emotionally I was
00:28:27
feeling terrible and I guess at that
00:28:30
time I was searching for the answers why
00:28:31
and and you know angered the night after
00:28:35
Karen passed away Jim stayed at Jean and
00:28:38
Tom's home he sat up late in the hope
00:28:41
that studying would take his mind off
00:28:43
the loss incredibly Jim was about to get
00:28:47
the first hint that Karen's spirit had
00:28:50
survived
00:28:53
it was more than a kick it was really
00:28:56
unawakened on my part they got my
00:28:57
attention and I realized that at that
00:29:02
point that you know Karen was was with
00:29:06
me at that point
00:29:08
Jim's brief encounter helped him cope
00:29:11
with Karen's death but it was only an
00:29:14
inkling of what was to come
00:29:15
when we returned Jean and Tom Walker
00:29:18
journey into a world of mediums and
00:29:20
psychics and Karen's spirit breaks
00:29:23
through
00:29:29
on December 17th 1970 21 year-old Karen
00:29:34
Walker passed away after a long bout
00:29:36
with cancer seeking consolation her
00:29:40
parents Tom and Jane went to visit
00:29:42
family near San Francisco there over the
00:29:46
next few days they sought out psychics
00:29:48
and mediums in the faint hope that they
00:29:50
might contact care and spirit three
00:29:53
times they tried and three times the
00:29:55
walkers went away disappointed which is
00:29:57
from Abraham they left for home on
00:30:01
Christmas Day and passing through Santa
00:30:04
Barbara they decided to call a medium
00:30:05
Jean had once read about his name was a
00:30:08
Reverend George Daisley Reverend nasally
00:30:12
answered the phone and told Tom that he
00:30:16
was very sorry but he was about 6 months
00:30:18
ahead and so tom said well could we make
00:30:21
an appointment for 6 months from now and
00:30:24
Reverend Daisy said just a minute just a
00:30:27
minute the spirits are telling me I must
00:30:29
see you immediately
00:30:30
could you stay overnight and Tom of
00:30:33
course said well yes of course and so we
00:30:37
made the appointment for the next
00:30:38
morning and went to see him
00:30:41
Jean and Tom agreed to limit the
00:30:43
information they gave Reverend Daisley
00:30:45
while they did tell him their daughter
00:30:47
had recently died they did not give him
00:30:50
Karen's name 19 hours had passed since
00:30:53
the phone conversation the walkers were
00:30:56
confident
00:30:57
Reverend days Lee could not have learned
00:30:58
anything about them overnight
00:31:00
I knew they were grieving parents simply
00:31:04
because today George days Lee is 83
00:31:07
years old he still lives in Santa
00:31:09
Barbara it is known that I knew nothing
00:31:12
about them whatsoever otherwise nothing
00:31:16
whatsoever the sitting commenced just
00:31:21
after 10:00 a.m. some people like to
00:31:27
take notes during our city days Lee's
00:31:30
first impressions were a stole his voice
00:31:32
I would tell you everything that she
00:31:34
says your daughter is here she is safe
00:31:39
she is well she says she doesn't hurt
00:31:43
anymore
00:31:46
she wants me to tell you that you were
00:31:48
the three musketeers and you still are
00:31:50
she says we are the three musketeers and
00:31:54
we'll always be together
00:31:56
I was just flabbergasted that she could
00:32:03
come up with the one piece of
00:32:05
information that was so specific to us I
00:32:09
think if she had said nothing else that
00:32:12
day I would always always know that
00:32:14
Karen was still alive I'm hearing the
00:32:20
name Karen yes yes it's Karen it's her
00:32:25
birthday soon
00:32:26
I believe yes January the 12th she wants
00:32:30
you to celebrate her birthday the
00:32:32
details literally spilled out of
00:32:33
Reverend Daisley the three musketeers
00:32:36
Karen's name her birthday even detailed
00:32:40
descriptions of two photographs taken
00:32:42
when Karen was a child we went home
00:32:46
smiling and crying and the emotions were
00:32:51
just volatile but there was always from
00:32:59
then on there was that underlying
00:33:00
current of I know she's okay according
00:33:06
to Jean Karen eventually began to
00:33:08
communicate without the aid of a medium
00:33:11
incredibly Jean says that Karen's spirit
00:33:14
even guided her to write this book
00:33:16
always Karen published a 1975 chronicles
00:33:20
Karen Walker struggled with cancer her
00:33:23
death and her first-hand views of a life
00:33:25
beyond this one
00:33:28
when we die we go into another dimension
00:33:30
that from this side we can't see but is
00:33:34
still life the body dies but there's a
00:33:39
new body waiting for you and you simply
00:33:42
step into that and there you are she
00:33:46
said I glow I'm filled with light
00:33:54
[Music]
00:33:57
is it possible to bridge the chasm
00:33:59
between the living and the dead
00:34:01
between our earthly life and an
00:34:03
afterlife in a small town of Ellerslie
00:34:06
Georgia we found a little girl named
00:34:08
Heidi Wyrick who apparently evinces at
00:34:10
astounding ability the ability to make
00:34:13
contact with real people who passed over
00:34:15
to the other side
00:34:16
decades ago hello honey what's your name
00:34:23
Heidi that's a pretty name you know I
00:34:27
live right next door and in my backyard
00:34:30
I have a swing I bet you like to swing
00:34:34
don't you yes it all began in February
00:34:39
of 1989 just after Heidi's family had
00:34:42
moved to Ellerslie according to Heidi
00:34:44
a man named Khan appeared at the front
00:34:47
door right here and he had a t-shirt on
00:34:53
with blood all over it and he had a
00:34:58
bandage on his hand with blood on it why
00:35:02
don't you go ask your mama if it's okay
00:35:04
[Music]
00:35:17
[Music]
00:35:20
are you sure I thought someone was
00:35:24
trying to kidnap her so I brought Heidi
00:35:28
and I locked all the doors and I got the
00:35:30
butcher knife out of the kid you know
00:35:32
out of the drawer and I I called my
00:35:34
husband home I said Andy you've got to
00:35:36
come home you know there's somebody
00:35:37
trying to kidnap Heidi we got out we
00:35:39
walked all up and down the street you
00:35:41
know trying to find somebody to fit that
00:35:43
description but we never you know found
00:35:46
a buddy
00:35:48
soon after had he had seen Cahn she
00:35:50
started seeing a man she would call mr.
00:35:53
Gordy and he was he would come in the
00:35:56
yard and she would she would play with
00:35:58
him outside
00:35:59
hi there Heidi that is your name is
00:36:03
I'm mr. Gordy and I used to live in this
00:36:07
neighborhood in fact I knew those people
00:36:10
next door real well they used to have a
00:36:14
great swing over there in the backyard
00:36:16
would you like to go over and swing with
00:36:18
me for a few minutes I thought that Khan
00:36:25
and Gordy was the same person so I
00:36:27
thought his name was Khanna Gordy and
00:36:29
that's when I started asking everybody
00:36:31
do they have they ever heard of a name
00:36:33
kind Gordy I didn't know really who it
00:36:37
was or you know if it was a real person
00:36:39
but then afterward you know we couldn't
00:36:42
find nobody or nobody to fit the
00:36:45
description then that's when I started
00:36:48
thinking you know that was just
00:36:49
imaginary friends that didn't really
00:36:50
bother me too bad then it began to
00:36:54
bother Andy Wiley and Lisa as well when
00:36:57
Lisa's sister would bought the house
00:36:59
next door
00:37:00
showed them the former owners papers
00:37:05
look James Escort II when I see mr.
00:37:10
Gordy's name on the deed I mean I was
00:37:12
terrified I really was because I knew
00:37:16
that the previous owners had was there
00:37:19
you know years and years and years back
00:37:21
so I knew that mr. Gordy I knew he had
00:37:25
to have been dead I knew mr. Gordy when
00:37:28
I was a small child I know mr. Gordy
00:37:31
owned a real estate company in Columbus
00:37:33
and for many many years he was a
00:37:37
sunday-school superintendent at our
00:37:39
church up your elephant Methodist Church
00:37:40
and Katherine Redford's family had owned
00:37:44
the house next to the wirings Katherine
00:37:46
verified that James Gordy who was the
00:37:48
executor of her mother's will had died
00:37:50
in 1974 mr. Gordy was a well he was a
00:37:55
tall lean man in stature and he was on
00:37:58
had a lot of dry wit about him but he
00:38:01
was he was a good man and he loved
00:38:04
people he loved children and he was
00:38:07
always willing to help people and do
00:38:08
things for them I asked Heidi did you
00:38:12
know at the time I asked her did she
00:38:13
think that it was a ghost
00:38:16
and she was so little at the time she
00:38:19
said that she didn't know because I said
00:38:21
does he look like a normal person or can
00:38:23
you see through him she said mr. Gordy
00:38:25
looks just like you mama just like
00:38:27
somebody real Catherine Ledford had no
00:38:34
photographs of mr. Gordy himself but she
00:38:36
corroborated Heidi's description mr.
00:38:39
Gordy had gray hair
00:38:41
always wore a suit and tie and shiny
00:38:43
black shoes Catherine did bring over
00:38:46
photographs of her family many of whom
00:38:48
had once lived right next door I was
00:38:53
looking through the pictures and I never
00:38:55
saw none of them people and when I got
00:38:58
to the bottom there's this little bitty
00:39:01
picture that's cars
00:39:11
well you nothing that is baby his name
00:39:15
is lon and he's my office Fitness law
00:39:19
and that you saw lawn lived here when he
00:39:25
was a young man he died in nineteen and
00:39:27
57 of cancer and he lost his hand at a
00:39:34
very early age I would say before I was
00:39:36
20 years old in a cotton gin up here in
00:39:38
Ellis Lee when I saw he was he was
00:39:44
hoping this right hand under his left
00:39:46
hand and he was doing that in the
00:39:47
picture when I found out that that it
00:39:52
was miss Kelly's uncle and his name
00:39:54
really wasn't kind it was line it scared
00:39:57
me to death
00:39:58
because I knew how he was really seeing
00:39:59
something and she was so small at the
00:40:03
time and she couldn't really speak that
00:40:05
well so I knew right then she was
00:40:08
mistaken it wasn't calling it was line
00:40:13
at little hidey Wyrick somehow tapped
00:40:15
into the afterlife her visions of lawn
00:40:19
and mr. Gordy remain consistent and
00:40:21
benign for three years then Heidi's
00:40:23
mother Lisa became pregnant when we
00:40:27
return a new unknown entity manifests
00:40:30
itself in an ominous and threatening
00:40:32
fashion for more than four years young
00:40:43
heidi Yreka valorously georgia continued
00:40:46
to encounter the benevolent spirits of
00:40:48
two men james Gordy and LAN bachelor
00:40:50
both long dead but soon after Heidi's
00:40:53
mother became pregnant in 1993 a
00:40:56
sinister Paul fell over Heidi's house of
00:40:59
spirits
00:41:06
[Music]
00:41:14
howdy had never been scared of anything
00:41:17
she had never been scared of a Conchie
00:41:20
and never been scared of mr. Gordy but
00:41:22
when she's seen the dark figure in a
00:41:24
hallway she was hysterical
00:41:26
she was I mean frightened she was
00:41:28
screaming she was terrified the new
00:41:33
spirit became a frequent but unwelcome
00:41:35
guest sometimes visible and sometimes
00:41:38
only sensed
00:41:46
at first we and my husband I talked
00:41:49
about moving and but like I told him I
00:41:52
said I don't think it would do any good
00:41:54
to move because wherever we go she's
00:41:58
just got that gift that she's gonna
00:41:59
she's gonna see people from the past or
00:42:02
people that has been dead On February
00:42:05
3rd 1994 Heidi's baby sister Jordan was
00:42:09
born two weeks later
00:42:11
Heidi's otherworldly visitations took a
00:42:14
horrifying turn she had just deep gashes
00:42:30
down her face and it terrified me I
00:42:32
didn't know what it was I mean it was so
00:42:35
bad that the blood had come to the
00:42:38
surface I mean I didn't know what it was
00:42:41
and I figured what it's so bad it's
00:42:43
gonna leave a scar and I couldn't
00:42:45
imagine what could have scratched her
00:42:47
that bad I thought maybe she has crashed
00:42:50
herself during the night and I didn't
00:42:52
really think too much about it so about
00:42:54
two nights later I woke up my side was
00:42:58
just burning like fire
00:43:01
[Music]
00:43:04
listen listen what is it
00:43:08
I had three Clone Wars going around my
00:43:12
side the next night I went to sleep and
00:43:15
I woke up and I had three claw marks
00:43:17
down my back and then it happened again
00:43:20
the next night and I woke up had three
00:43:21
claw marks down my chest maybe it might
00:43:24
be a rat in the house but I know that
00:43:27
you know I would have woke up fighter v
00:43:30
rat crawling on me and scratching my
00:43:32
face or side or whatever but after it
00:43:35
happened four nights straight and and it
00:43:39
got to a point where me and Lisa would
00:43:40
go to bed and then I tell her I said if
00:43:43
I wake up in the morning I got scratches
00:43:44
on me you know I don't know what I'm
00:43:45
gonna do I was worried to death that it
00:43:48
was gonna scratch the baby and that's
00:43:51
when you know I was so worried I thought
00:43:53
well I've got to do something before it
00:43:55
scratches her and that's when I called
00:43:57
dr. rolls once again parapsychologist
00:44:01
dr. William roll was a logical choice to
00:44:04
investigate and perhaps explain the
00:44:06
unusual occurrences and where was mr.
00:44:11
Gordy standing do you think on September
00:44:14
12th of this year dr. roll visited the
00:44:17
why Rick's house okay she came up with
00:44:20
physical descriptions and with names
00:44:23
that she apparently could not have
00:44:25
obtained in any ordinary way so that
00:44:27
immediately made me interest in the case
00:44:29
a couple of pictures had been found of
00:44:33
mr. Gordy the hope was that Heidi would
00:44:40
be able to to identify mr. Gordy mr.
00:44:44
gorgeous picture if they were presented
00:44:46
to her with with a number of other
00:44:48
photographs in this pile of pictures
00:44:52
we're looking for somebody who looks
00:44:53
like mr. Gordy alright so what you are
00:44:59
watching is real
00:45:00
Heidi Wyrick is looking through the
00:45:03
photographs for the first time
00:45:11
[Music]
00:45:18
that looks like
00:45:21
that is mr. cornea right incredibly
00:45:27
Heidi had chosen the photograph of James
00:45:30
Gordy twice now the little girl had
00:45:33
correctly identified her spirits from a
00:45:35
photo lineup having spoken to to Heidi
00:45:40
and her parents and even more convinced
00:45:46
that that we are dealing that we are
00:45:48
dealing with genuine peril psychological
00:45:52
experiences then the question comes up
00:45:56
why are these things happening to this
00:45:58
little girl why indeed was at all just a
00:46:03
coincidence did Heidi simply make two
00:46:05
Lucky guesses or does Heidi Wiley
00:46:09
possess some mysterious power to
00:46:11
communicate with the dead I'm not scared
00:46:15
of Conn and mr. Gordy because they
00:46:18
talked to me and they they don't scare
00:46:22
me they play with me and the reason I
00:46:26
was scared of the other ones is because
00:46:28
they don't talk to me and I can't see I
00:46:34
can't see his face if she sees them you
00:46:38
know what it don't bother her and she
00:46:39
talks to these people then I'm fine with
00:46:41
it
00:46:42
just so long as I don't see I think how
00:46:45
do you special I do i she's been seeing
00:46:48
him for so long now and it's just
00:46:50
something I don't think she'll ever grow
00:46:52
out of she's just a special child she's
00:46:55
gifted so to speak
00:47:01
is there truly an afterlife a Sunday
00:47:05
school teacher named Rossiter Raymond
00:47:06
once wrote death is only a horizon and a
00:47:10
horizon is nothing save the limit of our
00:47:12
sight until we each embark on the final
00:47:16
journey what lies beyond will remain a
00:47:17
source of wonder the most profound
00:47:20
mystery
