what had happened that there was a group

of indo-canadian males who were in the

area as part of a family event that was

going on at Royal fontlin Park there was

apparently number of soccer tournaments
00:02:01
happening over the weekend along with
00:02:03
other festive activities one group of
00:02:06
window Canadian males were standing on
00:02:07
the west side of 128th Street when a
00:02:09
vehicle traveling south along 128th
00:02:12
Street rolled by and a number of shots
00:02:14
were fired from that vehicle the scene
00:02:16
is now being examined by both our
00:02:18
forensic identification Specialists as
00:02:20
well as investigators from our serious
00:02:23
crime unit to have been called in it
00:02:25
takes a quite a long time in order to
00:02:28
get all the evidence from a scene such
00:02:30
as this there were also a large number
00:02:32
of people in attendance during the park
00:02:34
or at the park during the time
00:02:36
and obviously we're trying to find out
00:02:39
who in the crowd may have seen anything
00:02:41
that can give us some information at
00:02:43
this point we don't have any motive as
00:02:45
to what sparked the shooting that is
00:02:48
still part of the investigation of
00:02:50
course our objective here is to identify
00:02:52
the people who are responsible for it
00:02:54
and anytime you have a scene like this

especially at a public event it's very
00:02:58
very difficult we have a large crowd

here that we have had to to deal with
00:03:03
within that crowd as I said we have a

number of witnesses and those Witnesses

may or may not feel comfortable in
00:03:09
coming forward and talking with us for
00:03:11
various reasons so one of our big
00:03:13
hurdles is to try and break down some of
00:03:15
the barriers that may exist and to have
00:03:17
them come in and speak to us about what
00:03:19
they may have seen or been in a position
00:03:20
to see again it's very difficult for our
00:03:23
members to come to this type of a scene
00:03:25
and to
00:03:27
initiate an investigation that seems to
00:03:31
be nothing more than a senseless and a
00:03:33
random killing at this point there's no
00:03:34
need for this type of thing to occur I

spoke with some of the area residents
00:03:39
who have lived here for in excess of 40
00:03:41
years and they're informing me that this
00:03:44
is the first time that anything of this
00:03:45
Nature has ever happened the traditional
00:03:47
problems that they have on the weekend
00:03:48
that this event as hell deals with
00:03:51
crowds parking and of course drinking
00:03:54
but certainly they haven't had any
00:03:55
problems of this magnitude in the past
00:03:57
at least not to their knowledge so for
00:04:01
us it is a serious very serious scene to
00:04:03
have to come into and and initiate an
00:04:06
investigation at a public forum where
00:04:08
we've had a number of people in as part
00:04:11
of the the family event and to to this
00:04:15
uh into a perspective that makes it
00:04:18
understandable it's very difficult to
00:04:20
try to Fathom why someone would open

fire on a group of people standing out
00:04:24
beside the road when the shooting first
00:04:26
occurred there was a large group of
00:04:27
people at the scene and obviously the
00:04:31
noise and commotion Drew hundreds and
00:04:33
hundreds more when the first police
00:04:35
officers arrived their first job is to
00:04:36
get everyone back preserve the scene
00:04:38
preserve the evidence as you can see
00:04:40
they roped off the area
00:04:42
and then called United in serious crimes
00:04:45
the members did what they could to
00:04:46
determine what's taking place by talking
00:04:48
to a number of witnesses it sounds like

there were five or six shots fired

possibly very random the uh the victim

the deceased party was hit in the head

once I didn't was here they scarred the

immediate area for exhibits or evidence

that might help out in the investigation

once the entire scene has been examined

actual bullet that's been found so far

the five casings were found on the

ground in the area of the body

and the bullet was found in a tree

nearby obviously it's a lot more

difficult find the bullets because they

could go anywhere and travel a great

distance Witnesses have indicated they

heard between four and six shots so uh

what we found here is consistent with

the number of shots that were fired we
00:05:53
may have found all the casings at this
00:05:55
point the casings and bullet that have
00:05:57
been found are 7.62 millimeter that
00:06:01
caliber is quite consistent with
00:06:03
military style assault rifles purple
00:06:06
word is just searching the area with a
00:06:09
metal detector right now he's a member
00:06:10
of our
00:06:12
dive team and they frequently use the
00:06:14
metal detector for the work in
00:06:16
underwater recovery
00:06:18
and so he's just searching the scene now

for any extra casings or bullets that

haven't been located yet looks like he's

just found a another bullet there lodged

against the Walla where it meets the
