00:00:00
I want to circle back to something else
00:00:01
that I think was really foundational for
00:00:04
me in this whole like figuring out
00:00:08
getting diagnosed and then having this
00:00:11
period of like I am just trying to
00:00:13
connect to the world around me in so
00:00:15
many ways.
00:00:19
I was looking for friends
00:00:22
because I didn't have friends. I had
00:00:25
people that I talked and worked with on
00:00:28
a computer screen for eight hours a day
00:00:32
and that was my connection to the
00:00:34
outside world. It's what happened to us
00:00:36
during CO. It's what's happened with
00:00:38
completely remote companies and there's
00:00:40
pros and cons.
00:00:42
But if you're listening to this and you
00:00:46
don't have real in-person friends that
00:00:49
you can call and you can say, "Hey,
00:00:53
want to come over and play a game
00:00:54
tonight?"
00:00:56
Find ways to do that. Because that was a
00:00:58
lot of what I couldn't I couldn't say it
00:01:00
at the time, but that was why I was
00:01:03
starting businesses. That's why I was I
00:01:05
was like, I'm going to become a content
00:01:07
creator, right? And go on the internet
00:01:08
and and connect with people. That's why
00:01:10
I got so sucked into social media
00:01:12
because I thought those connections were
00:01:14
what I needed. And what I needed was a
00:01:18
hug. What I needed was to get out and
00:01:22
and watch a band that five other people
00:01:25
are watching and get up on stage with
00:01:27
them and and like actually have real
00:01:31
human interactions. Um, one of the most
00:01:35
amazing things that's happened to me in
00:01:38
the last 6 months is I joined a baseball
00:01:40
team and [clears throat]
00:01:42
Sandlot baseball is making a resurgence.
00:01:44
I played baseball when I was nine and 10
00:01:47
and haven't played since. It's a friend
00:01:50
group and we get together. We see each
00:01:53
other in person. like tomorrow we're
00:01:56
gonna go to our home field which is full
00:01:59
of weeds and and like do some field work
00:02:01
together and get our hands dirty. And
00:02:05
those are experiences that the
00:02:08
technology that we have today is making
00:02:12
it easier and easier not to do and not
00:02:15
to have those kinds of relationships.
00:02:17
But we are [ __ ] mammals and we are
00:02:20
pack animals and we need other people.
00:02:23
Everything else aside that's happened
00:02:25
over the last year and a half, that is
00:02:29
the number one thing I think that has
00:02:31
helped me is actually finding other
00:02:35
humans that I get to see a couple times
00:02:38
a week and
00:02:41
hang out with. It's amazing.
