00:00:05
Happy holidays, my ex-homies. It's your
00:00:06
boy, Jacob Gooden, and we are [music]
00:00:07
back for another week of the Ex
00:00:09
Homeschoolers Club. That's right, the
00:00:11
show where we talk about the good, the
00:00:12
bad, and the ugly of growing up a
00:00:14
homeschool kid. This is the last episode
00:00:17
of the year. Last episode of 2025. Oh my
00:00:19
gosh, can't believe another year is in
00:00:21
the bags. It's been crazy. First and
00:00:24
foremost, I want to say thank you to
00:00:25
anyone who has listened to the show,
00:00:27
watched the show, contributed to the
00:00:28
show, commented, subscribed, all of the
00:00:30
different things. If you've been on the
00:00:32
show, huge thank you to you guys. Round
00:00:34
of applause to you guys. To be to be
00:00:35
quite honest, this has been an
00:00:37
incredible year. And as I've been
00:00:39
reflecting on it and looking at the
00:00:41
numbers and kind of going back and and
00:00:43
viewing the catalog and just like the
00:00:45
people we reached and the messages I
00:00:47
received and all these types of things,
00:00:48
it's been an awesome, awesome year.
00:00:50
Okay, so thank you. Thank you. Thank
00:00:52
you. Secondly, in this episode, I wanted
00:00:55
to say happy holidays. If you're
00:00:57
celebrating the holidays, whatever
00:00:58
holiday it might be, I hope you're
00:00:59
having a wonderful, a merry, a jolly old
00:01:02
good time with loved ones, with family,
00:01:04
with friends, however you celebrate, I
00:01:07
hope you're winding out the year in
00:01:09
style, okay? [laughter]
00:01:11
And um I wanted to give you guys kind of
00:01:13
like a little sneak peek maybe at what's
00:01:16
coming in 2026 and some of the things
00:01:18
I'm interested in in doing. and uh ask
00:01:21
for your help. If you want to be a part
00:01:22
of it, um I want you to be. So, here we
00:01:25
go. Little sneak peek at January 2026.
00:01:28
I've got two interviews with current
00:01:31
homeschool moms coming up and those are
00:01:32
going to be really fun. We talk about
00:01:34
how the landscape has changed a little
00:01:36
bit in the homeschool world. Uh both of
00:01:38
them have kids that are on the autism
00:01:40
spectrum and so we talk about that and
00:01:42
growing up with that and dealing with
00:01:44
that and and all those types of things.
00:01:46
So, very fun interviews, very excited to
00:01:48
share those. Secondly, I had a
00:01:50
conversation with the director for the
00:01:51
Coalition of Responsible Home Educators.
00:01:53
It was a great chat. Not only was she a
00:01:56
homeschool kid and shared her story, but
00:01:57
she's going to talk with us about how we
00:02:00
can get involved, what they are, what
00:02:02
the coalition does if you're not
00:02:03
familiar with them. I'm going to link it
00:02:04
down below. Check it out for yourself.
00:02:06
But it's been really cool. I've been
00:02:08
jumping on a couple of the live streams
00:02:10
that they've been doing uh and and
00:02:12
chatting with them uh about my alumni
00:02:15
experience. That's one of the things
00:02:16
that they they do a lot of work on is
00:02:18
the al alumni experience and creating
00:02:21
resources and advocacy for those people,
00:02:24
but also they work to help kind of
00:02:26
create some legislation that can help
00:02:29
current homeschool families um so that
00:02:31
we don't fall into some of the pitfalls
00:02:32
that that some of us did back in the
00:02:34
day. So, very cool, very excited for
00:02:36
that conversation. Coming up, I've also
00:02:38
got a conversation with a public school
00:02:40
teacher. Uh we're going to talk about
00:02:42
the current state of public education
00:02:44
and just the education system in
00:02:45
general. Uh we're going to touch on how
00:02:47
we can be stronger advocates for that,
00:02:49
how we can be involved in that. Uh also
00:02:52
her education experience and stuff. So
00:02:54
that's going to be really cool. I've got
00:02:55
a couple other things with some exhomies
00:02:57
in the works. Nothing solid yet, but
00:02:59
those are coming as well. And that's
00:03:02
really what I want to pivot most of the
00:03:03
content in 2026 to be more about. I know
00:03:06
this year I've taken us on a couple wild
00:03:10
I don't want to say goose chases or
00:03:11
anything like that, but we've we've gone
00:03:13
into the more of the territory of some
00:03:14
of the current homeschool system. And
00:03:18
really in 2026, I want to come back to
00:03:21
focusing in on the alumni experience and
00:03:24
the exhomeschooler experience. And so if
00:03:26
that's you, I want to have you on the
00:03:28
show. I want to talk with you. You can
00:03:30
do that. Shoot me an email,
00:03:34
give me a quick little synopsis of your
00:03:36
homeschool experience and maybe some
00:03:37
things you're interested in talking
00:03:38
about. Um, and then I'll hit you back.
00:03:41
We'll we'll kind of we'll go back and
00:03:43
forth. We'll have a conversation about
00:03:44
you being on the show and things like
00:03:45
that. that even if you think your story
00:03:47
is really boring, if you had a wonderful
00:03:49
experience, if you didn't have such a
00:03:50
great experience, whatever you would
00:03:52
want to share about that or even coming
00:03:54
out of that in the posth homeschool life
00:03:57
world, you know, we touched a lot on
00:04:00
that this year as well of like the
00:04:01
things my friend Carrie was on the show.
00:04:04
We talked about all the things we
00:04:05
weren't allowed to do as kids and that
00:04:06
then as adults we we have, you know,
00:04:09
been able to do. And so anyway, I want
00:04:12
to touch on a lot more of that kind of
00:04:13
stuff. There's more topics that I want
00:04:15
to hit on. Deconstruction, religion,
00:04:18
worldview, all kinds of stuff like that
00:04:19
as well. Um, there's a whole gamut,
00:04:22
okay? But if you've got a story, if
00:04:24
you're an exhomeschooler and you want to
00:04:26
share, shoot me an email,
00:04:29
I promise I will respond. We will be in
00:04:31
contact and uh hopefully we'll get you
00:04:33
on the show. There's a couple other
00:04:35
things I have an interest in doing, but
00:04:37
I also know that I can't do them alone.
00:04:40
And so I don't want to just start them
00:04:42
or push them if they're not something
00:04:44
you're interested in. Okay? And so I've
00:04:46
got two kind of main ideas that have
00:04:49
been percolating my brain. Um and so
00:04:53
again, shoot me an email exhibited.
00:05:02
So first and foremost, I know previously
00:05:05
I had started the exhomechoolers book
00:05:07
club. Nothing ever became of that. I
00:05:10
really fell off the bandwagon and did
00:05:11
not finish that. I would love to bring
00:05:13
something like that back. And I know at
00:05:15
the time we read a book that was like
00:05:16
very it was about religious trauma and
00:05:19
and things like that. I don't know if
00:05:21
that's where you guys want to go. Maybe
00:05:23
if this is something you're interested
00:05:24
in in doing a book club, it could be all
00:05:26
fiction books. It could be fun stuff. It
00:05:28
could be life stuff. I don't really
00:05:30
know. So if that's something you're
00:05:31
interested in, I want to hear your
00:05:33
thoughts on it. Uh or the other kind of
00:05:36
thing that's been percolating in my
00:05:38
brain is just doing some kind of
00:05:40
exhomeschooler happy hour Zoom call
00:05:44
hangout session. Okay. And just get to
00:05:47
know each other, get to reconnect with
00:05:49
old friends, get to meet new friends. Um
00:05:52
I don't totally know what that would
00:05:53
look like. I've never done anything like
00:05:56
that before. But if that's something
00:05:59
you're interested in, um, that's kind of
00:06:02
the next step and the next evolution
00:06:04
that I see this show going on is
00:06:06
building out the community in some kind
00:06:08
of way. Uh, where it's not just me
00:06:11
connecting with one person and sharing
00:06:12
it with you guys, but it's also you guys
00:06:14
connecting with each other. Um, and who
00:06:16
knows what could come out of that. Okay?
00:06:18
So, if if either of those things are
00:06:20
things you're interested in, what I want
00:06:21
you to do, if you're listening to this
00:06:23
on audio, some of the audio platforms
00:06:25
let you drop a comment below. Uh, if
00:06:27
they don't, send me an email. Uh, but or
00:06:30
a DM uh at EXHS Club um or if you're on
00:06:35
YouTube and you're watching this, I want
00:06:36
you to drop either book club if that's
00:06:39
what you're interested in or happy hour
00:06:41
if that's what you're interested, just
00:06:42
comment that down below so I kind of get
00:06:44
a gauge. If you want both of them, put
00:06:46
both of them. And then any thoughts you
00:06:48
have around those, I would love to hear
00:06:49
them. And uh yeah, and if you want to
00:06:52
help, if you want to help facilitate
00:06:53
anything like that, let me know. If
00:06:55
you've got other ideas for how we could
00:06:57
build this community, I want to know
00:06:58
them. That is I think about it. Okay. Uh
00:07:04
I've tried to keep this short.
00:07:05
Hopefully, it's it's been shorter. I'm
00:07:06
sure I'm going to edit this. There was
00:07:08
been like six or seven retakes in here,
00:07:10
people. Um but, you know, as is the life
00:07:13
of a podcaster. So, again, thank you.
00:07:15
Thank you. Thank you for a wonderful
00:07:17
2025.
00:07:19
2025. Yes. I don't know. That didn't
00:07:21
sound right coming off my tongue, but
00:07:22
thank you. Thank you. Thank you for a
00:07:23
wonderful 2025. I'm so excited for 2026,
00:07:27
what's to come, we're building something
00:07:29
cool here, okay? And I want you guys to
00:07:31
be a part of it. Um, if you've got
00:07:32
ideas, like I said, if you want to be on
00:07:35
the show, if you want to know more about
00:07:37
book club, happy hour, any of these
00:07:38
things. If you just want to like know me
00:07:40
more, exhsclubgmail.com.
00:07:42
Shoot me an email. I don't bite. if I
00:07:45
get a huge influx of emails, it's going
00:07:47
to take me a while to get back to them,
00:07:48
but I promise I will get back to each
00:07:50
and every one of you. So, with that
00:07:52
being said, I'm gonna close it out here.
00:07:54
Have a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful,
00:07:56
wonderful happy holidays and uh until
00:08:00
2026. We'll see you
