Jason Ryan: The Truth About Coaching The All Blacks & Working with Razor
Episode Description
Jason Ryan is the forwards coach for the All Blacks.
Before that he was involved with numerous other high-profile teams including the Crusaders where, alongside Scott “Razor” Robertson, he helped build a dynasty, winning multiple Super Rugby titles.
This is a small part of the Jason Ryan story.
How a butcher from the Wesat Coast ended up becoming recognised as a guru of some of rugby’s most technical aspects.
The surprise moment he got a phone call asking if he wanted to coach the All Blacks- then the first person he called and who he spoke to for advice.
The pressures of coaching the All Blacks.
The impact of social media on players.
The lessons learned from losing a Rugby World Cup final.
How interactions with rugby legends like McCaw and Carter have influenced his career and so much more.
Worth a mention, he gets asked to do a lot of podcasts but generally prefers to keep a pretty low profile, so this was a real honour, and I am extremely grateful.
We connected at the start of 2025 while he was in Auckland to watch some sports and catch a country music concert.
