but they did go on a trial period for about 2 years and unfortunately I've been under the you know the fire who

under the hammer because well since then M um and it's yeah probably been about 2

or 3 years now with these guys so you feel sort of sort of picked on or persecuted yes absolutely would it would

it be by the way I'm not I'm not um an investigative journalist or anything I'm

just a guy that likes to have conversations with people because I feel like um by having a conversation with

someone you can understand them better yes um could you not would it be easy just

go and I didn't know what to do so I used that I used um well bit of meth just to numb my brain and numb myself

and I I didn't know what to do to be honest and I woke up my morning was I decided to go to the fight club and the

qus out east and it's a gym so I decided to go there and that's when hunters and the fight club Saved My

Life um yeah pretty much saved my life I mean we've only been going for 4 minutes

now but I think the um the immediate sort of impression for anyone listening uh to this is that you're you're quite

of means like well well spoken I guess well spoken it's like um so you if someone walked past you on the

street that a a preconceived idea of what sort of person you are but then you speak to you briefly for just a couple

arm robbery on some drug dealers and took their drugs and their money and um yeah we got roll into that somehow so

that this is when you're in Australia that's correct yeah yeah what what sort

of age uh 20 yeah okay so um yeah yeah okay home invasions yeah okay so you just um was it you and a couple of mates

in Aussie or uh yep yep yep a few few really good um mates that helped me out and um you know I got a mom there that I

call Mom because took me in off the streets I was homeless for 2 years by choice um yeah into the party life um

ecstasy and whatnot um cocaine and heroin um heroine more mainly when I was in prison yeah

probably just just to numb your brain and pass the time more or less yeah absolutely okay well well I feel like to

Mount Eden went to mounted normal um I feel like I was raised quite normally um had a stepdad uh and I think the

domestic violence and all that sort of stuff was you know having to I don't know like grow up and living in fear

that's how I felt my childhood was you know very suppressed um going to church

there and um I went to Dorth so you know I've been this is my dog hello hello he's

I'd say so yeah and um I was booted out of um Dorth at 13 um I used to question

you know Father Brown there was a bit of pedophilia stuff going on around there and I used to pick on a a boy that was

that was in in that Circle and I you know like I feel really bad and when all the stuff came out as well I I jumped on

my bike at a super bike ailia and put a spray can in my backpack went and Tagg the fence and you know I said protect

the boys and why you protecting Father Brown more or less you know and I got expelled because of all the scenario

they put me up in a room for 9 hours you know where they used to do all this sort

of stuff to my mates yeah and because I didn't abide by that they they they kicked me out at 13 so I went to my

Rosell grammar after that and um we gradually get into another scenario where um I think crystal methamphetamine was

um introduced maybe in '99 2000s and that was around that period where my family got involved in that sort of

mishap and then it was quite dysfunctional so I went to Australia what about your you mentioned

you had a stepdad um your biological dad you do you have a relationship with him

or do you know him um he's like my bro yeah yeah yeah he's a good man but um

yeah he never really had much to do with my upbringing sort of thing but I would

go see him maybe once a year during the um holidays and go and visit him and my sisters and brothers over there yeah so

we when when you look back from where you are now as a as a um a dad of two do you do you think that shaped shaped in a

about your um your connection to your roots or your multiculture was there any of that growing up or no not really no

is from otara um manua back then and uh she would always come pick me up and every time she would try and teach me or

I think I was maybe 10 or 13 and she wanted to cut my for skin off so I ran away well like what CCIS you what by the

know we went through as a child and um he apologized and I accepted it so it's

good to get that behind me that's good you mentioned domestic violence was you

you stepped out a bit of you know no good a big man yeah he was a big man I mean I mean freaking hell it came to my

attention when I think I think I was 32 and if I had five children myself I think I'd be pretty much the same but

about these sort of things like you there doesn't seem to be like a much of a chip on your shoulder about it about

when year when you moved to Australia why did you end up in Australia I think I was 16 I think who did you move there

with um my birtha oh yeah yeah so went there with my birtha but as I've been

going there since I was you know a kid um i' got my mates and I got my cousins and whatnot and then he decided

to move to Brisbane but I wanted to stay with my friends in the syney and that's

how I became homeless because nobody wanted to look after me or deal with me so I just roamed around kind of like you

call it couch surfing so I just went and stayed on people's my Bros couches and

and stuff like that until one of their mothers took me in and her name is Larry I love her yeah so so were you were you

sort of sent to Australia from New Zealand because it was to get away from the PE yes okay yeah yeah so there's

like nobody really knew what the consequences were like the like or the aftermath of you know the substance

abuse nobody really knew well we didn't know until you know maybe a year two

years down the track and everything just started spiraling um what what what did it give

an escape or um at that age no I think at that age I we'll just you know probably drink a

bottle of Jim Beam go for a walk down Queen Street and then have our dad come pick us

up yeah so just we didn't even really know didn't know just not not overthinking things so okay so you so

you moved to Australia then then what are you in school there or you start working straight away a school yeah

failed school c three times um and then they failed me in Australia I went to cogra and that was the third time I

failed but then um because I was going I they sent me to PCYC Rockdale and I had

to do my um homework next to a police officer and I didn't really I didn't
00:16:14
really enjoy that I didn't really like that so I picked up a little bit of a
00:16:17
fussy and that was at the costa zoo Jim um hardcore and yeah I didn't really
00:16:22
like that so I went back into the tap and I had a little bit of a winge to my teacher but they kind of knew my
00:16:27
upbringing they knew my scenarios and whatnot so they just gave me my um School certificate just to get you out

of there you go your certificate I got it to 3 months why why was why were you being
00:16:39
sort of monitored by a police officer uh had you been in trouble at that i' been
00:16:43
in trouble there yeah I ended up dealing with um two Lebanese boys um their Lebanese brother older um he's doing

time over there for murder now um but I had run with him I went to go buy a gun off him for $800 and he ended up robbing
00:16:57
me with a gun oh yeah so so so it seemed like um I mean yeah you can you can leave the country and go
00:17:04
somewhere else but it's like um the person you are it's going to it's going

to it's going to go with you you can't you can't outrun yourself so seems like

wherever you went you going to you going to find the trouble crowd well I'm going to find my people

yeah not not necessarily the trouble crowd I hate drama I hate trouble but I do know my people

M but you to buy you buy a gun off the sky then most people listen to people went into

jail when we seen each other in jail like hey bro hey bro stays on now stays on the you know what happens on outside

stays on the out side yeah so you don't you know we lived on the same street

right in hille so um what what did you want to G for I just wanted one right yeah I don't know I don't I really don't

know why so you're how old at this point still in your teens uh yeah maybe 17

yeah yeah cuz I mean a a lot of teenagers I think guys in particular make make poor decisions I I don't think

there's part of our brain that I don't think we just don't [ __ ] think bro

like my my best friend we just selling a bit of pot and then we started selling a

bit of ecstasy um helped out these people and uh they were giving us ecstasy pills at $4 each so in the town

that was a $60 $90 pill so you can imagine how much money it will be making then so is that what What attracted you

towards that sort of thing just the sort of the Easy Money exactly yeah we like to buy nice shoes and be able to you
00:18:41
know go out and drink and have fun but um It's Not What It Seems though to be honest you know it's hard work
00:18:50
really is and back then when I was over in Sydney we had our day clubs so the the nightclub scene just started on a
00:18:58
Friday do end until Monday so but they don't have that anymore right they got
00:19:02
the lock out and whatnot I'm 2005 that happens yeah um what was the oh King's
00:19:08
cross the party area that's it's dead now all the all the pubs and G that
00:19:12
absolutely so so you're just you're going all we can because you're just um
00:19:15
you're high on whatever you can get your hands on not necessarily yeah we would
00:19:19
be high we would be drunk but I would also be slanging as well at the holiday in King's cross yeah I'll be staying

yeah we'll go and hire out hotel room and um probably have about 1,500 pills

with us try and sell $200 200 packs and right just to get by right so you you must have been on um the um the radar of
00:19:38
the Aussie police at this point he no no no no that that scene back then is way too way too Fierce Al so so you 1500
00:19:46
pills you're a small fry just a little boy yeah so when so when did the police
00:19:52
start taking taking notice of you when did that start happening in Australia well when I did that stupid that stupid
00:19:57
crime yeah yeah when I did that um I didn't know there was two females in the
00:20:01
house and there was and there was the girlfriends of two um drug dealers that lived at the house and uh yeah things
00:20:08
went a bit too far and and whatnot but yeah not towards the woman but of course I terrorized them I did Apologize in
00:20:16
court and I did my time for that I got out for a year and on the year on the day that I got out I reoffended I went
00:20:23
out that night in canala went out to a bar and um mistaken identity by two bounces and one put me in the headlock

the other one smacked me over I went outside has me drunk take it off my jeans everyone's like what the [ __ ] you
00:20:36
doing and I was like oh I need to take my jeans off so I can kick them in the head and that's what happened and went
00:20:41
did another two years four months because of that right and then after that I got deported the first time I we
00:20:48
I filled out the characters test M and I passed that and I I was okay to stay the
00:20:54
second time round I wasn't but the second time round is they solidified uh um a ruling where they had to deport us
00:21:02
and I believe that it was kind of done because there was uh nine refugees boats coming in hundreds of people on them
00:21:09
every day nine boats coming every day so I believe they put that law in place where they can send them back to their
00:21:14
own country yeah because they couldn't before that yeah the 501 thing we'll get
00:21:19
into um all of that shortly and and what it means exactly um first of all let just go going back a little bit so the

the the home invasion what your sentence for that uh 6 years and I served four years so six years on the top so there's
00:21:34
a 2-year pral period and a 4 years Ser uh serve prison time for yeah [ __ ] can you imagine how terrifying that is like

seeing you and a couple of others you know I was just I was 75 kilos bro I walked in there the first thing I
00:21:49
said I was almost getting into a fight I didn't really like that yeah but um yeah

I was 21 75 kilos um going into a big world full of proper criminals yeah so then

when when you find out what your sentence is um what's what's running through your mind at that point well is

it I think after the first year you you just you come to terms that you can't go

to McDonald's and go get a Big Mac you just then after that year then you start
00:22:18
to um accept it within that first year I just couldn't accept it I didn't know
00:22:22
what was going on I didn't want to accept it you know so so like are you are you like you mad at yourself

forgetting yourself in the situation or or is there a perceived Injustice that the you the police or the courts had it

in for you or no not not at all um the system over there is um pretty good awesome I think uh they kind of look

after the youth and they kind of look after people like in my scenario where my upbringing was always getting into
00:22:47
trouble so my sentence I know but my sentence was kind of like reduced on that on on those um I don't know what

you call it statistics oh that sort of like the um they do a thing here in New Zealand called Cal reports no is that no

no no it's not they don't really have the system over here is totally different over there over there they
00:23:06
know that there's you know mate there's junkies everywhere like the upgrade

bringing for you know us young and over there um it's a little lot different yeah but okay so
00:23:18
how do you do how do you do four years incarcerated and then like a you know shely that's a lot of time a lot of
00:23:24
thinking time you know a lot of time to do some soul searching so how do you how
00:23:29
do you [ __ ] it up again on the first day out oh no after the I was a whole year

oh okay a whole year later year so I stayed sober I stayed sober for about 6 months and then after that started
00:23:42
getting into the cocaine and then going back out again um drinking and cocaine and
00:23:48
ecstasy uh and then yeah uh doing construction work at the same time I got given a job when I got out of prison so
00:23:56
that was good and and um I just stayed at the gym and just smashed it out more or less got up to like 120 kilos and
00:24:05
yeah I guess uh the alcohol just doesn't really agree with me too much yeah and
00:24:11
it must be must be when you've had a taste of um I don't know I was going to
00:24:17
say the good life but that's probably not the right the right phrasing but when you've had a taste of easy money I
00:24:21
guess of like you know huge makeup on ecstasy pills it's got to be hard to go
00:24:25
and do construction and get 30 bucks an hour or something yeah yeah yeah I but you know in a drug dealing world you
00:24:32
build you know connections and I guess um that wasn't really me to be honest um because when I did get out I
00:24:43
really stayed on track and I I was going to work every day you know waking up at
00:24:47
5:00 in the morning and going to hit some steel on some slabs and yeah I guess I just had to kind of
00:24:54
like man up but then you know clearly then I just got sucked into the alcohol again yeah yeah the alcohol's got a lot

lot to hands for right not for um for a lot of people as well and all sorts of walks of life um okay so your partner

who's out here now with your with your daughter um she's Australian so you guys

meet in Australia yes that's correct did you meet um like before you before you
00:25:17
got out of after after your incarceration or before before yeah yeah so okay so she stuck with you through
00:25:23
that yes yeah yeah mhm what did she make of all that that oh she hated me for it and her mom and her dad yeah but they

love me now so why yeah why did she I don't know if this is a conversation you've had with her maybe maybe we need

to get her on for an episode but why why did she stick with you did she believe in you is that what

it is or she knew the I actually don't [ __ ] know why'd you stick with me I actually don't

know she just yelled at I actually don't know yeah yeah that's cool that she did

I'm in the must been a lot of from her side there must been a lot of pressure

like you know just let this guy [ __ ] rot move on with your life this is your chance that sort of thing yeah

yeah yeah yeah that um yeah that must be the hard thing about being incarcerated

if you got a partner on the outside like you know you have a I don't know how it

works you have all everything I know I'm basing on once we're warriors um that

and the jail stuff same thing movies and TV but I'm guess you have like a visit

once a week or we maybe twice twice a week or yeah once a week get your visit um get your you get your phone calls um

I was in uh like the it's called segregation it's like a pound over here

it's a protection uh so protective custody why were you why were you I wasn't over here they it's a segregation

they call protective custody over there segregation for the naughty ones and I didn't n months of that so you try and

talk to yourself in the mirror for 9 months it'll be so yes so what does that

mean exactly so you're in a Solo cell and you like 23 hours a day 23 hours a
00:27:12
day yeah but then you're you're little yard little 2x4 bloody yard is at the
00:27:17
back door one 5 minute phone call and um a day and you graduate and steps and you
00:27:24
you know get your radio get your Kettle get your TV after your third month sort of thing so oh so good behavior you get
00:27:30
some more little rewards yeah um yeah I mean a lot of lot of people with you know the covid lockdowns a lot of people
00:27:37
found that really hard in terms of the isolation and stuff and yeah um isolation like that it's a form of
00:27:42
torture in a way isn't it well not me I was on the road then but you when you're in um when
00:27:48
you're in your own cell with just nothing but your own thoughts for 23 hours a day what are you what are you
00:27:52
doing um well I really I really I did some soul searching to be honest m I read the Quran I read the Bible and I
00:27:59
read the Dharma and I felt that the uh Dharma was most fitting for myself and that's why I've got a swas sticker that

I designed on my stomach yeah and that's um yeah that represents you know black
00:28:10
and white good and bad five Realms um yeah three jewels I'm the Jewel and the
00:28:18
Lotus which was my Mantra many P me home um yeah you do you're well aware of

the um the um con connection between the SWAT sticker and Nazi Germany though what what yeah yeah yeah yeah I

am so you know it's a provocative tar oh yeah I draw a SW stier on the um rugby

ball in the prison yard and had a Aboriginal Cy lad who the [ __ ] do this who the [ __ ] did this you know he I did

it you know what I mean but everybody knew who I was you know yeah yeah yeah and you know I have some Muslims you

know ask me you know um well who is Buddha who was Buddha you know m i just my my theory behind it all is is that um
