It's It's definitely, I'd say, New Zealand's, if not the world's, toughest
00:00:05
adventure race. Um just the the vast just the the New Zealand in itself is hard adventure racing, but Godzone just likes
00:00:16
to make it that next level. You enter this race and you know that you need to be
00:00:22
happy in the mountains by yourself with the equipment that you've got. You also
00:00:27
need the skills to navigate because the navigation navigation is tough. Uh and the rivers, especially, um
00:00:35
you know, you're pedaling in rivers that are gnarly, basically. So, in New Zealand, you don't have tracks and
00:00:41
it's going to be awesome because for example, a few years ago I think Estonia came and they're one of
00:00:48
the best teams in the world and they were like where are the tracks in New Zealand? And we're like I'm sorry, you
00:00:55
know, we don't have tracks here and that's why when we go overseas, it's
00:00:59
more of a speed like a It's more of a faster race because you are often biking
00:01:05
on tracks. But when we go overseas, we're like, "Oh gosh, we have to run on
00:01:09
a track now." Whereas we used to have to just slog [snorts] up these hills for hours
00:01:14
and hours and they had to bike, you know, even in this last Godzone, we had to uh
00:01:19
carry it was 50% biking, 50% walking with So, the bike stages, for example, was 140K's and we'd be
00:01:28
half biking and half carrying our bikes over a a track that is barely walkable and it
00:01:37
was horrific. In fact, we had to carry our bikes up this hill called the Equinox Saddle for
00:01:43
I think around 4 hours and it was like shingle scree, so you would be You've
00:01:47
got your bike on your um on your shoulders trying to walk up this hill, sliding down and it was Yeah, it
00:01:56
was tough. Yeah. And you get to the top of it, give each other a fist bump and walk down the other side cuz you
00:02:02
couldn't bike down it.
