what's going on people of the internet welcome back to another episode of the waveform podcast we're your hosts i'm marquez and i'm andrew and i'm fresh
00:00:12
back from the met gala yeah all three hours of sleep i got were great and uh today's episode we got a whole bunch of
00:00:18
stuff we're going to talk about the full specs of the subaru saltera just because
00:00:24
they're conversation worthy i think yeah that's a nice way of putting it yeah um but there's also some twitch rumors
00:00:29
floating around that might be very consequential to twitch partners and also we have some updates on the f150
00:00:34
lightning and i also have some some future stuff we want to talk about but then we'll always wrap up with some
00:00:39
trivia like we have always not always done but like we've started doing and i think it's super fun but i also think
00:00:45
like you can't just throw the met gal out there and not like elaborate a little bit that that's a flashlight you
00:00:51
know what sure let's just go uh that'll be my story time for this episode we've done so much tech stuff but yeah i was i
00:00:58
was at the met gala uh on may 2nd which was no big deal you know pretty uh fish out of water as i would
00:01:05
as i would describe it so uh the way it was sort of broken down is uh the met gala for those who are
00:01:11
unfamiliar is a sort of fashion event uh fundraiser in new york city yeah but
00:01:18
it's it's become like the super bowl of fashion events basically so yeah so anytime you see it happen basically i
00:01:25
don't really follow the fashion world that much and then once in a while on twitter i see everyone's craziest outfit so i'm like
00:01:31
oh the met gala happened and that's like once per year basically they took a year off after the pandemic then there was a
00:01:37
a couple months ago they did a pre-med gala or something like that but then we're back in 2022
00:01:43
and like two weeks before i got an email from derek blasberg he's the head of fashion at google on youtube and was
00:01:50
like hey do you want to go to the met gala i was like oh oh yeah i i maybe sure i
00:01:57
guess that sounds fun i looked up uh in the past like have youtubers gone to the met gala before and there have started
00:02:03
to be a few it's kind of like uh actually kind of relate it to apple
00:02:08
events remember the earliest days of apple events where there actually weren't any youtubers at them yeah
00:02:15
and i was actually the first youtuber that was invited to an apple launch event
00:02:21
and now not to take credit but now they've realized that that's a good idea and now there are youtubers at every
00:02:27
tech event especially with apple events there's tons of us there um so i looked it up there have been a couple of
00:02:33
youtubers in the past that have gone to met galas typically though they're in the fashion industry
00:02:38
so as a tech creator i was a little bit confused i started reaching out to some
00:02:44
youtube friends like did you get a email about a met gala did you get an email yes nobody else had gotten one but i
00:02:51
texted mark rober mark robert also got an invite and we were both a little confused about if we should go or not
00:02:57
but we did both decide to go we were like we'll be fish out of water together we'll just go do the thing works better
00:03:03
that way yeah yeah so we had each other's back it was uh it was very it was very
00:03:09
interesting as you can imagine an event like that would be i'll just i will say
00:03:14
derek is clearly a legend like i didn't know i didn't know what i was getting myself into but if i could do my first
00:03:21
met gala all over again i would not rather have any other host than derek blasberg so he
00:03:26
he walks into the place and literally immediately it was like his birthday the week before and people like oh it's
00:03:33
derek what's up man happy birthday good to see you i think uh we got to the the red carpet which is how everyone gets
00:03:39
into the event and i think i stepped out of our van for 15 seconds and
00:03:46
immediately uh hugh jackman's like derek man what's going on shakes his hand he she shakes
00:03:52
my hand hi i'm hugh hi hugh i'm marquez like i i know who you are yeah i know
00:03:58
but um you know there's there's all the who's who's of i guess fashion and you see celebrity and musicians and
00:04:04
things like that and there's a theme and everybody wears an outfit according to the theme um which was a little bit interesting i
00:04:10
think people saw the theme which was gilded fashioned something american american fashion i think people
00:04:16
saw the word gilded and thought oh you need to have gold that's not what the theme was the theme was it was from the
00:04:23
gilded age of fashion which was this golden age of like new wealth coming to
00:04:28
the us this is like the the early 19th century mid-19th century and then
00:04:34
yeah there's like an extra like american on top of it look at the fashion icon over here
00:04:39
this podcast is gonna be a fashion podcast and riada is going to take my space yeah no this this was i'm i don't
00:04:45
know if i'll ever go back to another med gala but this was quite an experience i'll remember for a long time lots of people are like who did you meet who was
00:04:52
the cool outfits i i met a lot of people a lot of them were very nice uh my number one thing that i think i'll
00:04:58
i'll take away from going to the met were number one i realize everyone how tall and short
00:05:05
everyone is because on tv and like in acting and music videos i guess i never really think too hard about the context
00:05:11
of like oh venus williams is super tall i didn't know that i looked it up after
00:05:17
she walked by me uh on google and said she's six one i don't believe that you she either she's like three right and
00:05:24
wearing huge heels or she's like six six wow because she's definitely taller than me
00:05:29
um erica bad dude is very tall um hillary clinton's not very tall hugh jackman's not the tallest jackman's tall
00:05:37
okay i think he's my height was he okay yeah so that was the one thing i got out of it and then i got that you know derek
00:05:42
knows everyone hillary clinton walks up to him derek happy birthday man katy perry derek happy birthday literally
00:05:48
everyone we walked by we were walking in the streets of new york city after the after after the met to one of the
00:05:55
like instagram after parties and literally a car driving by on fifth avenue window rolls down derrick man
00:06:02
how's it going so that was my gal experience at the instagram after party were all the celebrities wondering why
00:06:08
there's no ipad app no that wasn't topic of conversation there was it was it no there wasn't
00:06:14
really any any sort of string of there was very little tech to talk about put it that way i i do have to say you
00:06:21
said that might be your last event i vote you keep going if you're invited until you meet taylor swift and then you
00:06:26
know i'll give you then you're allowed to stop going fair okay all right that's yeah that's fair thank you i appreciate
00:06:32
you i'll go i'll i'll definitely go if mark goes again i think we had a good you know eye-opening time um so shout
00:06:39
out to mark rober also we we sort of we suited up obviously i wear a tux i
00:06:44
posted the picture about how it was map like everything i got so much heat about how the shoes didn't look matte black
00:06:50
i'll tell you in the photo they didn't look matte black because compared to fabric you know matte black leather doesn't
00:06:56
look as matte black as fabric but the shoes were matte black and to prove it
00:07:01
look at me in any picture with anyone else's shoes and their shoes are way shinier i posted a separate i'll put a
00:07:07
separate picture up of the shoes they're matte black leather just so you know this is very important the lights just hit different i just have to be sure
00:07:14
yeah so matte black bow tie matte black shirt and matte black jacket for anyone who thinks he changed just for the mech
00:07:19
gala he did not they're matte black i'm still the marker as you know you know me blood runs thick yeah it's not it's not
00:07:25
going anywhere actually here's the funny part so anna winter uh is the the she runs the event and she runs vogue and so
00:07:32
the med gala everyone who goes is hand approved by her and as i did the suit tailoring and
00:07:39
fitting they had to send a picture of my fit to her for approval i did the fitting in a
00:07:45
white shirt and a white bow tie and you know they get they're like oh yeah we have to get your cuff length you
00:07:52
know a quarter of an inch we can't be sending a gentleman out there with a half an inch of cuff showing anna will not accept that that's not gonna work so
00:07:59
like i go you know get the the length all set right they pin everything down they send the picture so when i get the
00:08:05
email like yep you know your your cova tests are negative your id went through everything's good and anna winter
00:08:11
approved your exact fit so we suggest you wear that but we'll include the
00:08:16
black versions just in case okay and so on my way there i'm googling it like what is white tie like how flexible is
00:08:22
this am i allowed to wear all black and i convinced myself like i gotta go map like everything i just i have to so
00:08:28
i wore the black tie i did it black shirt that was it so matte black everything's is vogue
00:08:34
approved is what i'm seeing well i did shake her hand but like she never
00:08:39
approved the black version she approved the black and white version but i just everyone was wearing black and white so i had to do my thing you know you did it
00:08:46
but i didn't get kicked out so we'll see if i get invited back that's the mad gala and you wore an apple watch i did i wanted to ask you i
00:08:54
forgot it was really funny so mark rober had this incredible watch with this like
00:08:59
planetary system and these amazing complications i don't know if he would even let me say how much that watch cost it's like one
00:09:06
of 10 in the world it's 17. it's 16 did you look it up like that you know how much it costs i did not look i don't
00:09:11
know how much it costs i just know how rare it is he when we left the met he took it off and put it in his pocket
00:09:17
i'll put it that way all right um i had the the black apple watch oh and i was like i was like i got to get the mkbhd
00:09:23
band going so at least i'm wearing me or something like that but yeah i had a i had an apple watch on wow
00:09:29
yeah hit that yeah i just shook anna winter's hand so take that kevin
00:09:37
what are you gonna do about that kevin uh no it was a good time that's awesome uh i'm gonna talk about twitch yeah i
00:09:42
don't know how i segway metcala to twitch so we're there it is yeah um yeah i
00:09:48
you know if you've been listening to this podcast for a while i love talking about live streaming and we've talked
00:09:53
about it a lot because i while we always talk about youtube kind of being like the end-all be-all
00:09:59
at least for now or in the foreseeable future they're video on demand like no one's beating them we've talked about
00:10:04
vimeo they're not doing great twitch right now that's generous while
00:10:09
is being is like the mainstay livestream platform i think there's
00:10:15
room for that to be taken over definitely i think youtube's a huge competitor there um
00:10:20
which i'm gonna get into a little later but that's why i think i find this so interesting um so bloomberg leaked a
00:10:27
some changes twitch is considering making to its partnership program the way you monetize on twitch is if you get
00:10:32
enough viewers there's some metrics you can hit that you get something called the affiliate program which enables your
00:10:38
sub button um if you're unaware of twitch subbing on twitch is a little different than on youtube it's more like the membership platform on youtube where you
00:10:44
pay money yeah um and then you get like ad freeze on that channel you get some uh emotes and stuff like that um
00:10:53
so you you unlock your sub button at affiliate and you do a 50 50 revenue split with them that's the only way you
00:10:58
make money at a certain point if you can get far enough you can get personally sponsored or partnered excuse me with
00:11:04
twitch that gets a little different there's negotiations in there there's rumors of people maybe like
00:11:10
shroud ninja people you know those those high high streamers getting up to like 70 30
00:11:16
splits like really really good change your revenue supply if you get bigger because you're important enough to them
00:11:21
you negotiate in the contract um so these changes i'll just go over them one by
00:11:27
one here and we can talk about each of them um just these are considered changes not finalized but
00:11:33
incentives for more ads so like more ad breaks during the live stream play more ads new revenue split seventy percent
00:11:40
down to fifty percent that's a massive number if
00:11:46
so was seventy percent by default i don't think by default but i think there are plenty of people who are up at the
00:11:51
seventy percent oh and the range back down to fifty back to 50 which is the default affiliate range anybody who
00:11:58
can hit a certain amount of viewers can get to there okay a new tier system and no more exclusivity
00:12:04
so i mean i saw this around in the tech world you know we look at
00:12:11
gaming and everything a lot all every single live streamer i followed tweeted about this because for live streamers on
00:12:17
twitch some of these are terrifying yeah i would say um let's just start with revenue split 70
00:12:24
to 50. because like 20 and literally anything is a giant yeah giant jump so for for the people who
00:12:30
were at the 70 tier it's just a pay cut it's a big pay cut um when you're i i do
00:12:36
believe though if you had your contract already like you're probably they're probably gonna have to go through that
00:12:42
contract um so i don't know when these changes might happen if they do happen um but a 20 paid decrease is gigantic
00:12:49
that sounds like a company that's struggling to make money and then when you saw like the other stuff like incentives for more ads which we might
00:12:56
talk about more like youtube's done the same thing youtube has allowed more mid-rolls like that you used to have a
00:13:02
10-minute video before you needed to if you wanted to enable mid roles in a video the video had to be at least 10
00:13:08
minutes long they moved that to eight minutes yeah and they also automatically checked the box on new eight minute plus
00:13:13
uploads to just automatically add mid rolls yeah so youtube's been through this where they're like okay we need to
00:13:19
make more money here's what we're gonna do so incentivizing more ads isn't new we've seen it before
00:13:24
it works i'm not shocked that twitch is gonna try to do that yeah the revenue split cut sounds like okay we really
00:13:31
need to find some money somewhere is twitch struggling that much i don't know
00:13:36
so i have two i i think the biggest reason when i first read this is if you'll remember
00:13:43
the that revenue split counts with amazon prime subs which is if you have amazon prime you get one free sub every
00:13:50
month and the creators still get the full revenue split from that even though the person's not paying anything it's like
00:13:57
they're paying five dollars to the creators so if someone has amazon prime they are given one free sub per month
00:14:04
every month when they sub to you the the creator will still get the split of what
00:14:09
you were supposed to get paid exactly paid full price and then twitch gets zero well uh yeah i guess ultimately twitch
00:14:16
like they get yeah they get 30 of their money that they gave out already right i
00:14:21
guess um so i think that and now if we can connect that to the incentive for more ads that would be my guess as to
00:14:28
why this is becoming an issue they want to still have creators make up that 20
00:14:34
difference so they're gonna have assume assuming some sort of incentive obviously to run more ads because they
00:14:40
want the creators to make more money to make up for that but they obviously we're not making money
00:14:46
off of free subscriptions now there's obviously people doing regular subscriptions there's some benefits and there's tier systems to do bigger
00:14:52
subscriptions but i mean there are a lot of amazon prime members out there and there are a lot of
00:14:59
amazon prime subs if you watch a a popular streamer they'll constantly be like thanks for the prime sub thanks for
00:15:04
the prime sub like oh does it tell you when it's a prime step or the person's one they're alerts depending on what
00:15:09
their alerts are but you will see a lot of people specifically mention prime subs and i think the reason they mention
00:15:15
it is because some people still don't know that they have problems so if they say it somebody might ask that's smart
00:15:21
there's a whole meme of ninja like creating this selling point of like what
00:15:26
a prime sub was because he would constantly say it during his streams all the time and then that's why he got to a
00:15:31
point where he had hundreds of thousands of subs yeah um now the biggest issue though and what i
00:15:38
see a lot of people complaining about with the incentive for more ads is like twitch has kind of been pushing ads
00:15:45
towards the creators recently um i think within the last year
00:15:50
they created a rule it used to just be ads would play pre-roll and then once you got into it
00:15:55
the creators basically had their chances for ad breaks and could send them whatever now you have to run at least one minute of ads per hour
00:16:03
of streaming you have to i believe that's just for partners but okay an hour or one minute of ads for an hour of
00:16:08
streaming now that doesn't sound that bad but there are a lot of streamers who hate that like absolutely hate that some
00:16:15
of the some of them are just doing so well and they do well on subs like they don't care about admid roles or like the
00:16:21
money from ads so they don't really run them at all and to them it's like it's interrupting this part of a live
00:16:27
broadcast and when you're doing things live a lot of times you're doing them that you know that content is lasting
00:16:33
more than an hour you're not just playing games where it's like 20 minute game i could queue up running that mid-roll you're not gonna miss anything
00:16:40
so those ads coming in are potentially like popping up at the worst times and you
00:16:45
could be like literally missing content that's happening on the live stream um
00:16:50
and that's just like it's a terrible user experience i totally get why twitch would want to do that because they need to make more
00:16:56
money but that's a bad user experience and bad partner experience yeah it's in twitch's best interest to try to get
00:17:03
people used to ads and i've always been on the same side like ads are not a good experience i don't like watching ads i
00:17:10
don't like getting interrupted with a double unskippable pre-roll or mid-roll or something like that so if i can avoid
00:17:16
serving those ads i will also avoid that because i don't want to give people that bad experience but yeah it's in twitch's
00:17:22
best interest to make it to normalize it to normalize ads and make people cool with like yeah there's gonna be a one
00:17:28
minute mid-roll it's been an hour like that's just gonna happen sometimes so i get i kind of see both sides of it this
00:17:34
also kind of reminded me of i saw this headline recently i just pulled it back up uh tesla cancels employee bonuses tied to delivery quotas raises salaries
00:17:41
to compensate so it's like you might net the same but they remove the structure
00:17:47
of one version of a getting paid and replace it with another so if you if if they twitch
00:17:53
wants people to run ads more they'll just go hey your revenue split is lower guess what run more ads that almost
00:17:59
feels like the opposite of what you just said though because like in a sales sales force like hitting quotas
00:18:06
yeah this this feels like they're trying to go from like hey you're salaried with your subs we're cutting that yeah
00:18:14
usually it's the other way i appreciate the tesla version of that way better than this i have a couple tweets real
00:18:19
quick from a few streamers who mentioned this and actually um a pretty good argument on the same side um hassan who is like
00:18:27
within the last two years probably one of the biggest creators on the platform um he streams like 10 hours a day i
00:18:32
think he during kovid streamed 365 days straight or something like that dude
00:18:37
people ask me why i don't stream on twitch like it is a different skill it is is it different it's crazy what you
00:18:44
can do which is why but again that's why ads are so much different on there because like you're keeping people
00:18:50
entertained for these long amounts of times running those ads are interrupting things where when we do mid-rolls like
00:18:56
we can be like oh this video has a natural break in it and we can figure that out later and put it in and it
00:19:02
works yeah um so hassan said when i negotiated my contract i knew this was coming and wanted to lock in one minute
00:19:07
of ads per hour is sad density is the lowest out of the top streamers twitch still serves pre-rolls because it wasn't
00:19:13
three minutes love twitch but it seems like they're moving away from cc to fix their profits um which then again even
00:19:20
just reading that it makes it seem like this leak is probably going to happen if he seems to
00:19:25
know that something like that was happening before um his contract negotiation and then
00:19:32
pokemane who obvi i think everyone knows pokeyman's name she's been a huge twitch streamer forever twitch should implement
00:19:38
ads that don't directly interfere with a stream sidebar picture picture underlay i understand advertisers are essential to making a platform profitable but
00:19:44
interviewing with the viewers experience isn't how they go about it so so twitch doesn't have like pop-up or banner ads
00:19:51
or any of the other types of ads at all they might have some banner ads on the home page but i don't think on a streamer's profile wow that's actually a
00:19:57
huge difference because on youtube that's been a thing forever where i i literally up until like two years ago
00:20:03
and never ran a single mid roll i was like well we've got the ads that pop up we've got the ads on the side the channel is self-sustaining we're not
00:20:10
hiring like we don't need to do mid-rolls yeah and like that was fine they just ran themselves like that so that's interesting and i'm kind of
00:20:16
surprised twitch doesn't just pop up on the top of the chat just like a a big square ad that credits
00:20:23
the creator the same way not i agree but uh line has slipped into these comments and actually has a pretty
00:20:29
good rebuttal to it um those ads are barely profitable as for a text-based site that's pretty much worthless since
00:20:35
2010 unless you can pretty much guarantee the viewer can't ignore it it does nothing for the advertor advertiser
00:20:41
so why would they pay for it i think that's pretty reasonable although i like the idea of potentially
00:20:47
if the sidebar covered up the chat when it happened it bumps down the chat it just appears
00:20:53
above the chat and even if it fully went over the chat it's still interfering with the
00:20:59
stream itself but not the actual content maybe it's interfering with like some reactions but if that's only a minute
00:21:04
long like that's way better than completely blanking out video it's the same way like uh youtube has ads that
00:21:10
pop up over the bottom of the video and you get inside of them like yes it's interrupting literally the video imagine
00:21:15
being in a theater and an ad pops up over the movie like that would never happen so yeah it's interrupting but not
00:21:21
it's it's still an ad that's credited to that viewer and you're targeting that channel still seems pretty good maybe
00:21:27
there's a bigger difference in like tech savviness of the average twitch viewer versus the average youtube viewer yeah
00:21:33
and i do agree with linus as too like if you if it pops up on the side and i'm watching
00:21:39
i can just completely ignore it yeah and why would like you're not going to pay the big bucks for that you want to make sure it's something um i do know twitch
00:21:46
has done some things in the past where they they're called bounties where it's almost like twitch can help streamers
00:21:52
find sponsored integrations throughout and i wonder if they'll do more stuff
00:21:58
like that because that seems like an actual good idea where it doesn't interrupt content quite as much kind of
00:22:03
changes the content a bit but if you like a streamer and their personality usually you're having a good time in something like that
00:22:09
um my last quick thing here the exclusivity part of it feels
00:22:14
crazy so what is that eliminating so like if you're a twitch partner you have to you're streaming on
00:22:20
twitch you're only allowed to live stream on twitch okay you still have youtube vods almost every single twitch
00:22:25
streamer does but if you're not exclusive that means there's plenty of platforms out there or
00:22:32
programs where you can multi-stream so you could stream to twitch and to youtube at the same time and broaden
00:22:37
your audience and they obviously didn't want to do that because youtube's a competitor but no exclusivity means now so you can
00:22:44
do it do stuff like that that feels cool very strange it is kind of cool i'll be interested to
00:22:50
see how it goes i wonder if it could ever pull users away from the platform i mean youtube's clearly take an aim at
00:22:56
some of the big streamers they have tim the tatman valkrei uh courage uh ludwig's a huge one that they just
00:23:02
brought over he just did an interview with susan recently like youtube's clearly gunning for things i don't think
00:23:08
i'm even gonna get on the topic of what i think youtube can do and what's going on over there i hope eventually we can
00:23:14
get deeper into that but like youtube's coming for them twitch is making mistakes all the time
00:23:21
i think this battle's getting closer and closer i think there's some holes in the armor i think that's a good thing i think the
00:23:27
competition is gonna make like the fact that the competition is making it better for streamers like hey you can there's
00:23:33
no more exclusives now and hey you can do you can try youtube at the same time if you want to and all these things are
00:23:38
making it a better overall experience wouldn't happen if youtube wasn't competing yeah
00:23:43
but there's also a 20 revenue split cut drop i almost wonder if the exclusivity thing was like uh
00:23:50
hey we know this sucks maybe you can go mix that 20 on youtube
00:23:55
with 20 of your viewers or something interesting okay i want to pin this for later but i also keep thinking in the
00:24:00
back my head like what is harder entertaining for 10 hours straight live
00:24:08
or spending 10 hours on a video that's only five minutes long that you then upload and entertain
00:24:14
someone for five minutes straight i don't think there needs to be there probably isn't one that's harder or the
00:24:20
other there are people who are good at different things very different skill very different skills i think there are people who live stream that would have a
00:24:26
really hard time focusing and polishing something down to 10 minutes i think there's people who can hyper focus on
00:24:31
something that would be like 90 of their livestream would be like dead space yeah imagine me trying to
00:24:38
talk about like the new do it s 22. can you imagine can we just do a day
00:24:44
where we come into work and you live stream the entire day and you have to entertain
00:24:49
woof i'd have to switch it up at some point uh we're gonna take a quick break but i think right before that
00:24:55
we have a trivia question it's my new favorite thing the rivian r1t won the motor trend truck
00:25:01
of the year for 2022. which truck won in 2021
00:25:07
truck of the year 2021 that's a good question all right yeah yeah we're good
00:25:13

00:26:20
waveform all right welcome back to the new ev section of the waveform podcast
00:26:27
henceforth known as the wave form section henceforth known as just pretty much the waveform podcast yeah we've
00:26:33
done this before uh there's a new ev and this time it's from subaru now we were
00:26:38
looking for you're looking forward to this because you've been following subaru's release yeah new is like we've known about it and they've teased it
00:26:45
forever and like we've seen it and it's slowly grown up and there's been rumors but now we have it all we knew subaru
00:26:51
was going to come out with a soul terra that it would be an electric vehicle that it would be a sort of a crossover size thing yeah and we were just waiting
00:26:57
for like release date spec that's sort of the big price the three big ones um and we did finally
00:27:03
get those things so what do we do first the price let's just start with the price we cry cry spoiler alert
00:27:10
foreshadowing yeah it's not it's not uh what we were hoping so starting price 45k
00:27:16
that was didn't we make it better we had a bet on that yeah what was the bet um i think it was over i think did we say 39
00:27:23
or did we say like 42-5 the bet was over under 39k
00:27:29
over under 39. back in november 18th of 2021 i think i went the pessimistic route and set over i took the under
00:27:36
under 39. so yeah andrew was over marquez was under damn all right i took that l i think i i in my mind i wanted
00:27:44
to win either way this was going to be a huge win if so subaru went under 39 and
00:27:49
it was gonna be a huge loss of one over that sort of i need the little win so that's your emotional damage here's the one
00:27:56
time i'll be happy for the rest of this segment um yeah 45 is a tough price it's it's a
00:28:02
starting price it's an ev supply chain shortages i kind of get it but it's like it's not going to be cheap to start at
00:28:08
45k so that's where it is beginning 45k i want to check right now this might be their most expensive car that they
00:28:15
sell most expensive starting i can see that let me check real quick so their most expensive car
00:28:22
is the top level trim ascent which is their three row suv that's at 45.9 but
00:28:29
you can also get a base ascent at 32. so like okay this is their most expensive car
00:28:34
elite frogs the entire lineup in price you got to really want this one so what do you get for your 45k to start you get
00:28:41
a 228 mile range and uh you get a quoted zero to 80
00:28:48
percent battery charge in under an hour yeah okay rough so
00:28:54
that's that would have been good in like 20 2017 228 mile range would have been okay in
00:29:01
2017. these these specs to me feel like they're like super base
00:29:07
level specs where i would only be impressed with these specs if we were getting a new price range like if we
00:29:12
were getting a 30 000 car with these specs exactly i would be like this is amazing this is our go this is like the
00:29:18
jump into being far more affordable and like 228 it's not that great compared to
00:29:25
other things we've had but if you're looking at like a super base level ev
00:29:30
that's going to get you to and from work pretty much every single day on your charge from like your garage right so
00:29:35
like sure you're making the sacrifice of not being able to do long road trips quite as easily
00:29:41
but like you're trying to buy the cheapest tv possible like you know you're going to have to sacrifice i would basically in like the most basic
00:29:47
sense of it be looking for either a low price or a high range one or the other and this has neither
00:29:54
this is neither it's a high price and a low range yeah and then even with the low range giving it this under an hour
00:30:01
i think someone quoted it at 0 to 80 was like 56 minutes yeah so it's 100 kilowatt charging so just for some
00:30:08
context the new like if you look at a tesla right now they charge at 200 to 250 kilowatts if you find the chargers
00:30:14
that support it yeah the the slower tesla superchargers are 150 kilowatts and then the fastest ones you might see
00:30:21
uh i think a ti-can supports 300 you know kilowatt charging so there's some really fast either i think there's
00:30:27
even some cheaper ones now i isn't the hyundai and the kia like quote 300. i
00:30:32
think the ionic might be the fastest charging there's one that does three three yeah i think that's it i have it here later um because i'm i want to
00:30:39
compare these to the the ev6 and the ionic five but i think the ionic five has like 0 to 80 in like 16 minutes or something
00:30:47
like that so the 100 kilowatt charging being the max on a fast charger is also
00:30:53
pretty disappointing in 2022 like if you drop this car today that would have been again fine in 2017
00:31:00
but again we're looking at a 45k starting price and a low range so though you could redeem it with super fast
00:31:06
charging but it's also not super fast charging yeah and okay like to put into context here also like 45 000
00:31:13
you know when we only talk about evs a lot doesn't sound like the craziest price in the world but when we're talking about
00:31:18
just the average person in a car and especially the average person getting a subaru you can get a hatchback impreza
00:31:24
starting at 19 at under 20. yeah so to have a car that's it's more similar to like the crosstrek
00:31:30
which is basically the hatchback impreza lifted a little bit at double the price you have to really want the election
00:31:37
yeah it feels like not quite for that crowd yeah um so it is a really
00:31:43
i consider it way overpriced i think um a couple things some people really don't like the design of it i've heard people
00:31:49
say it doesn't look like a subaru i kind of disagree with not looking like i think the crosstrek and the imprezas
00:31:55
have been becoming like a little sleeker and harder lines and i think it kind of follows that path and isn't too far off
00:32:02
um i know people don't like the like it has these black matte sides kind of to the front of it
00:32:09
that i don't love but i don't hate i don't think it looks that bad the interior looks fine
00:32:14
there's a lot of like interesting design decisions that have to be made with evs because there's always like oh i'm
00:32:20
looking at it now yeah that's interesting i actually kind of like it but i also think you don't have to look like the other cars in the lineup this
00:32:26
is the thing like the mock e which i'm starting to see everywhere uh you have you see monkey everywhere
00:32:31
yeah you have the flat plastic front grille which i think is nice the performance version has that so it's the
00:32:37
body matching color on the front grille like that's not a thing you see in other performance mustangs it's like different
00:32:43
that's fine and you also see a lot of aero caps every time you see an ev they're trying to maximize efficiency
00:32:48
error caps are a big deal and you just don't see arrow caps on most of the other evs so you see those two things
00:32:54
you know it's the eevee and it looks like the eevee and i think it's fine to be a little different like yeah so yeah
00:32:59
i don't mind how it looks i give it a six and a half out of ten if i'm being honest right now pure design i have
00:33:05
never been super into the subaru aesthetic this is my favorite looking subaru there i totally agree with you as
00:33:11
a subaru fan there are their aesthetic is always like alone their wrx's i think look really
00:33:19
nice but then other than that they're pretty much fine i just it's usually like reliability and price and price is
00:33:24
why i like them so much yeah um but so like another thing here is that this is built
00:33:30
with toyota as well toyota is also coming out with a bz4x which is
00:33:35
pretty much the exact same car if you look at it i mean it is the exact same car it's similar to what toyota and
00:33:40
subaru did with the brz and the i forget if it's the frs or the type 86
00:33:46
i i think they change the name sometimes and i will get crucified for saying that um but
00:33:51
the the biggest issue here though is if you the bz4x is cheaper and has some different specs so the
00:33:57
problem is is subaru likes to do all-wheel drive on everything so they're only offering the all-wheel drive version which we know for av means less
00:34:03
efficiency so now you're losing range on it um but there is still a bz4 x all-wheel drive that's a thousand
00:34:08
dollars cheaper okay well i mean yeah so all so adding a second motor obviously
00:34:15
adds weight but you can improve efficiency if you have lower powered motors if you have the right motor combo
00:34:20
so far in all the cars i'm going to mention in this segment the all-wheel drive version has less range right then there's
00:34:26
a higher performance version okay yeah dang well you know they tried i think
00:34:32
subaru yeah so you can get a bz4x um forward or front wheel drive which i do
00:34:39
like i don't there's not a huge difference between rear wheel and front wheel if you're in
00:34:44
snow rear wheel generally can be a little harder to navigate because the back slips out so i do like that the bz4 x
00:34:51
has a front wheel drive and 252 miles of range for 42k so like i would pick that
00:34:56
over the soleterra better it's better even if you like the sole turret
00:35:01
that is it yeah it's just cheaper it has more range yeah um but to compare it
00:35:07
here we said it before the reason this is so tough to look at is because of the ev6 and the ionic 5
00:35:13
right now which are very similarly sized test the ionic five eight i'm sorry
00:35:18
i saw one when i was on vacation it looks so good absolutely the interior had this like weird white
00:35:25
bezels on the screen that i didn't love but other than that like from the outside i was like whoo there's a car
00:35:30
like you don't see like it doesn't look like anything else on the road right now that's it that's another thing so you look at other
00:35:35
hyundais and if i was a hyundai fan i'd be like this doesn't look exactly like any other hyundai i think that's totally
00:35:41
fine and it's got the i like the wheels i love the lights dude it gives me the lights
00:35:47
it's like if it feels like if rivian was building a crossover like hayato has mentioned it before that rivien is
00:35:53
they're getting away from that super aggressive which i actually do really like but this more like friendly feel to
00:35:59
it yeah i'm like friendly robots not like terminator robots so like it has that friendly feel you know what this
00:36:05
reminds me of so a really long time ago back in the day maybe the first car i can ever remember my family having was
00:36:11
called a grand prix and it had those like square lights in the tail lights okay
00:36:17
and the ioniq is a modernized version of those tail lights it's a gran let me can
00:36:22
i find a grand prix
00:36:28
yeah you can kind of find yep it's got the tail lights and there they're always like these these dots and everything
00:36:35
uh and this is just a new super modern version of it so i'm i'm very into the ionic i want to test it i
00:36:42
want to see if it's good but like you said on paper it beats it in everything it's got 300 miles of range it starts at
00:36:49
about what 42k is that what it is and the sultera or the ionic the ionic here i can yeah i have some ionic specs here
00:36:56
um 300 miles 42k rear wheel drive you can get all-wheel drive 252 miles at 47k
00:37:02
but also remember that's 2000 more expensive but fast charging also charges
00:37:07
dramatically faster dramatically fast like that's not even a competition almost three times faster i think than that and then you also have the kia ev6
00:37:14
which i also think looks really really good um you can get 230 miles of range rear-wheel drive at
00:37:22
40k 310 miles of range rear-wheel drive 47k or you can do 274 miles of range
00:37:28
all-wheel drive for 50k yeah it's it's all about context like i know a lot of people here like the difference between
00:37:34
220 miles and 300 miles is like okay 80 more miles of range what does that even mean uh it's all about just like
00:37:41
convenience how often you have to charge it and if you were to do a longer trip yeah the type of like experience you
00:37:47
would have so you know the the sweet spot today being somewhere between 300
00:37:53
and 400 miles because that's when you're gonna have to get out and use the bathroom anyway um and then just being able to stop
00:37:58
anywhere in charge the 220 mile range version of this experience is like kind
00:38:04
of inconvenient because you're stopping more often than you have to and then you're adding stops for just charging
00:38:10
but not using the bathroom or snacking and then it's just a whole metal and using the bathroom and snacking can with
00:38:16
a one hour slow charger yes see that's that's that's yeah that's the cherry on top is
00:38:22
the slow charging i really can't believe that that's what it ended up with so i'd rather save five thousand dollars get
00:38:27
the ev6 same range but zero to eighty percent in 18 minutes yeah on the right charger it's like it's like when the
00:38:34
oneplus has like a smaller battery but it charges at like a million miles an hour they'll give like 80 watt charging to a 3800 milliamp hour battery it's
00:38:41
like this phone doesn't last all day but the second i plug it in it's like added 40 so i'm cool with that cool with that yes
00:38:48
so i think all in all at the end of the day i'm sad me sad andrew sad you won the
00:38:56
bets i won the bet but it doesn't make up for yeah was there a concept maybe it
00:39:01
was there a consequence for that bet maybe that'll cheer me up i don't know if we bet anything i think we just bet to bet bragging rights bragging rights
00:39:08
aren't fun well well i think our next bet was about f-150 lightning which is think that one might have a hot sauce
00:39:15
consequence well i think i'll check that i'm very wrong about that because they've already spoiler alert we're gonna have one soon so i mean a good
00:39:22
segue after this break and after this trivia question we're gonna talk a little bit about some f-150 updates some
00:39:28
good some bad some brutally honest so and maybe some hot sauce okay that's fine all right
00:39:34
uh let's get one more trivia question take a quick break then we'll come back and talk about all that stuff okay so this one is
00:39:41
about phones so in august 2018 red released the hydrogen one the
00:39:46
company also makes all the cameras we use around here besides like the one that heyota uses so the question is how many megapixels
00:39:52
did that rear camera have on the one hydrogen one how many megapixels the rear hydrogen one rear
00:39:59
camera okay never i mean i have a chance i have a guess actually i don't know if
00:40:05
i know the exact answer but um it's coming back to me sadly i'm remembering all the sad things about that phone
00:40:10
think about it on this advert yes [Music]
00:40:23
all right we're back let's talk about this uh i want to talk about this this video that's really messing with my head on twitter it's a
00:40:30
video okay of somebody in a tesla model s i guess
00:40:35
it's a plaid or it's a refresh model s who hits a button in the ui with a power lifting frunk it opens the front i've
00:40:41
been waiting for this on the model s for forever you have to manually lift the front it's not a huge deal but every new ev with a frunk is doing the power
00:40:48
lifting front lucid f-150 rivian so great so that's that's something that's been added and then also there's a
00:40:54
button in the ui to tilt that center screen yeah towards the user this is another pretty minor
00:41:01
thing but the old model s's with the vertical screens default tilted the entire screen towards
00:41:07
the driver that was kind of neat there'd be less glare you could see everything but your passenger wouldn't really be using the screen very
00:41:13
much in the new cars the screen is flat so as someone who came from the old car it's
00:41:18
like it's kind of away from me and so i heard i think they said in the original
00:41:24
presentation of the new car like it'll have tilting or it's at least been on the website since i got the car it's never tilted so this video pops up
00:41:32
and it looks like it's i mean this is the type of thing that could be added with a software update but the more i
00:41:38
look into this video the more it's messing with my head so first of all
00:41:43
it comes from a user larry lee whose username is tesla franc
00:41:49
okay and who has notoriously tweeted and sold aftermarket installs of power
00:41:55
opening fronks so now i'm like okay is this did you add this to the car or
00:42:03
it did test this or the screen just the front just the front i'm just wondering about the front the
00:42:09
that twitter name changes me from thinking this is a new video i do automatically but you said it
00:42:14
did go through the ui right so that's the thing so he went through the ui and the caption to the video is
00:42:19
tesla finally added screen swivel to the refresh model s so it doesn't mention the frunk so to me this guy's selling an
00:42:26
aftermarket front with this tweet and you could still could go through the ui because it's just the original front
00:42:32
button right i believe i mean it's hard to see in there but it he could have just somehow you could just connect that too when the
00:42:38
hydraulics on it or whatever feel the latch open up it just automatically exactly right now in the ui i hit the
00:42:44
front button it just opens the latch okay and then you can pull it open so maybe he's got a system where when it
00:42:49
feels the latch open it opens it all the way with the power system i believe that that is not from tesla i agree with
00:42:56
you there but i don't know it should be that seems like a pretty obvious thing to do okay but i would go
00:43:01
i would agree with you after market so the second part is the the swiveling screen part which has been even weirder
00:43:09
to me so like i said since day one since i bought the car it has said on the site
00:43:14
that this is a tilting screen okay there's never been a button to tilt it you can pull it all you want it won't
00:43:20
tilt it's been flat there have been tear downs of the model s that suggest that the parts are there
00:43:26
for it to be able to tilt that was my first question but it's lacking the electric motor to
00:43:33
actually push the tilt out so it's got the arm folded back in place okay but the the mechanism to power tilt it isn't
00:43:41
there so now this tweet says tesla finally added screen swivel to refresh model s
00:43:46
this makes me think okay either one it's a new software update and all cars after
00:43:52
a certain date have the electric motors and they will get the software update and be able
00:43:58
to swivel the screen or this is a a new vin car where they just started
00:44:05
adding the motors like yesterday or this is also an aftermarket modification but the fact that he said
00:44:12
tesla added it makes me think it's not an aftermarket modification yeah but i'm still not sure if my car which i
00:44:19
bought when it said it would have screen tilt will get the screen tilt i if i was guessing
00:44:25
i would say that this is something i'm going to have to get my car into a tesla shop to be retrofit
00:44:31
for not sure how long that will take not sure if that's true or false not sure it should be free because they said it
00:44:36
would have the future in the first place it's true um but i i am not sure i just i have so many more questions
00:44:43
than answers after seeing yes i would say i mean like hearing that whole breakdown
00:44:49
i would i would imagine they would offer for free if you're right about the mechanisms being in there just minus the
00:44:55
motors yeah if that part is not true then i see no chance of that which is it's just a new vin number yeah but like
00:45:02
it's crazy but that's not it's unlike what we've seen in the history of tesla yeah tesla's talked about stuff before
00:45:08
that's never happened i still can't play what was the game they said the witcher they said they put some games on this side
00:45:14
yeah you still can't play the games that they showed in the car at launch like in the when you went to the tesla event
00:45:19
when people were there it was showing a bunch of games on the screen and everyone who reported about the car said
00:45:24
you'll be able to play games at your stop with a controller that has also never happened so i'm not going to sit here and pretend they've never not
00:45:31
shipped something they said they would ship so i'm interested as is this a
00:45:37
if the parts are in there and there's no motors was this a just like you know supply chain issue where they
00:45:42
sent them out and were kind of hoping no one would notice because they have sent cars out also just like remember the
00:45:47
usbc ports that just didn't have the connection on they had the drill out they did retrofit those for free though
00:45:53
right but they did also ship them out without telling anybody about it yeah and letting people figure out themselves
00:45:58
and the screen tilt is not going like you're not going to find that out yeah like usbc isn't like a listed maybe it
00:46:05
is a listed feature on the site but like the screen tilt seems like it's one where like they put it on the site as a feature they mentioned it before so i'm
00:46:12
like i think it would be weird to never ship screen tilts there's no button in the software currently correct okay yeah so
00:46:19
anyway that i just wanted to share that this video is really messed with my head i'm sorry i'm just gonna maybe by the time this podcast comes out we have an
00:46:24
update and i'll have my car getting the screen tilt but as of right now this one account being the only one who can tell
00:46:31
me about it who happens to also do aftermarket stuff to cars is really messing with me it's gonna be hard to get a drone fly over to see if they're
00:46:37
adding yeah that might be a little too close um all right other ev news
00:46:43
really quick dodge finally teased their ram 1500 ev which
00:46:48
is like this this feels up there with like if you're talking about the most popular
00:46:53
vehicles in the us this is the other 1500 is like right there with f-150 i'm pretty sure it goes
00:46:59
f-150 series ram 1500 series and then another truck yeah and then i like the camry or
00:47:05
something i think it's actually rav4 crv and then like cameron yeah so we're we're talking about one of the biggest
00:47:12
the next biggest vehicle in the us um it's the teaser is very small they really didn't say anything they took a
00:47:17
little shot with it have we brightened it uh i have not but i think this is already like
00:47:24
kind of a brain dead from their like little video yeah it's just pretty much the the lights coming up on front which
00:47:30
do look really nice and it says ram across the front of the truck looks really sleek
00:47:35
from the like silhouette you're getting of it yeah um we'll see i feel like dodge hasn't mentioned much about evs i
00:47:42
i really don't ever remember talking about them yeah it's funny when you think about like ford versus dodge okay
00:47:48
so ford beat dodge to the punch for an electric pickup truck yeah but when i think of the the ford crowd as much as
00:47:55
you're like a truck person's a truck person they don't want electric the the dodge crowd i think seems
00:48:01
from the outside in even more like petrol head like like gas cars like the every everything from like the chargers
00:48:07
to the hellcats to the srt the durango everything i've seen from dodge is like motorhead i do you know i will
00:48:13
personally ask i know i have a friend who is a dodge fan that listens to this podcast cj i will reach out to you soon
00:48:20
and i want to hear what you said about this he did mention he was interested in the f-150 not buying it he is a dodge fan
00:48:27
but he does like the idea of when you look at an eevee from pure specs there's some cool stuff there
00:48:33
as long as you're in that category where it fits too because obviously truck stuff is a lot different but uh yeah
00:48:39
i'll get it i'd like to see that because i as well as a non-truck person seem to see dodge truck people as being
00:48:46
far more loyal they're just like extremely loyal yeah like i haven't seen any dodge ev stuff at all like i don't i
00:48:52
maybe i've missed it but is there a dodge charger electric being teased anywhere like i don't think that's happening like yeah well i don't see
00:48:58
dodge talking about evie's stuff very much so this kind of came out of the blue instant shot at ford because they said they're going to bring the thunder
00:49:05
to the forged lightning if i could make another bet this probably isn't that bold of a bet but i would bet that this
00:49:11
ram 1500 has to be a much more aggressive looking like
00:49:16
bold design truck well we can kind of see i can kind of see i i agree with you i think it's going to be so kind of how
00:49:23
the um the silverado is like different right the lightning is the same as that 150
00:49:30
minus the bar light a little bit of light differences i think you're right i think they're going to go the like intense route yeah with this okay we'll
00:49:37
see i'm excited to see it yeah um and now on f-150
00:49:42
neli had a really really interesting interview with jim farley the ceo of
00:49:47
ford and i think there's a couple quick points here i just want to talk about but we'll link the whole article in the
00:49:53
show notes and i highly highly suggest reading it because i think it's just important for eevee in general um
00:49:58
talking about the f-150 release one thing i saw that was cool in here is they just start like did their
00:50:04
production launch the other day but apparently this is right around that time at the time of this interview they have 1800
00:50:10
vehicles built already so the production plan's up and running and
00:50:17
pumping quote-unquote for like a new production line like it's starting to move yeah you start somewhere so you know
00:50:23
they've built 1800 again i think i saw that number and i was like oh cool did you deliver any of them never no okay so
00:50:30
they've started building them and it always looks like a ramp every time we see a new product line we expect to see the ramp go okay 3 600 then 10 000 then
00:50:37
50 000. so we'll see that just to see that it's like at uh an okay number of cars before deliveries happen
00:50:44
makes me feel a tad optimistic but then right after that he also mentions that like there are he knows there's limited
00:50:51
factors in here and right now he thinks batteries are actually going to be the biggest limiting factor on pumping out
00:50:56
the f-150 numbers we know that the orders for the f-150 are like massive
00:51:01
insane yeah um he thinks it'll probably take one and a half to two years i believe to
00:51:08
actually fulfill all of those orders before they get into the like full-blown just production you know you don't need
00:51:14
a pre-order for it so that's a while i need things not chips because because ford is so massive and buying so
00:51:21
many chips for an f-150 already they have good connections with all of that he's not worried about chips being
00:51:28
the limiting factor he's worrying about batteries being the limited factor okay which i do think they're investing some more money into a battery factory in
00:51:34
georgia that they work with but that's going to be the thing that's going to stall them out
00:51:40
he was also really really blunt about the charging network which i thought was
00:51:47
really interesting he said he gives their charging network about us or not even just the network
00:51:53
but about how it works with the network the experience yeah like a c on a grade which i think might even be a little
00:51:59
optimistic maybe it's our experience we've talked about this before was really bad but we were also in a super
00:52:04
remote part so we did a thousand mile road trip with the maki i would say from the exact
00:52:10
route that we took our our trip was it was like a d-minus yeah but i think if
00:52:15
you average out all the different chargers and all the different experiences and all the different routes people are taking for road trips so i
00:52:20
can see it being a c maybe sure it probably really depends on how you do
00:52:26
are there a pluses out there a plus routes you hit the charger on tesla networks yeah maybe maybe bro i
00:52:32
mean i'm sure there are some but yeah so average um one thing he did mention is that he
00:52:38
thinks hyundai and kia i think are doing really good things with the way they bring you to charging networks which is
00:52:44
like making sure they're available making sure charges or stalls are available and that they want to look at
00:52:50
other companies how they're doing that and being able to update how ford
00:52:55
because this isn't just for the f150 this is for the mackie which is everything like we mentioned before i see those everywhere yeah like let's not
00:53:00
get it twisted we did our video but like we're not the only ones to say that the charging network is like a problem for these cars after the video though like
00:53:07
ford reached out and they're like here's a bunch of stuff that we're doing to hopefully make sure this experience doesn't happen again we're gonna have
00:53:12
people constantly checking the chargers we're gonna try to make sure as many of them as possible are not just fixed but
00:53:18
updated so that we don't navigate you to one that's not updated so like they know it's not like they're unaware that these
00:53:24
are challenges that they have to tackle it's just a it's a challenge they don't own like they don't own exactly america
00:53:30
and and a big part of that challenge is relying on user reports and so one of the things that he talked about that he
00:53:36
hopes they implement soon is not having to rely fully on the user report but being able to rely on the
00:53:43
data of a car plugging in how long it gets plugged in for how quickly it moves away so they
00:53:49
can tell like if a car goes up plugs in and immediately leaves that charger's probably broken they need to it reports
00:53:55
that automatically and yeah can hopefully get a technician there um and that just like
00:54:00
the charging network in general really needs to be fixed which i think we can all agree on and i think is a huge step
00:54:06
for not just ford for literally all evs it'll be interesting also to see you
00:54:12
know as we have more and more mockees out there like this is tesla's huge advantage with like self-driving for
00:54:17
example was they have so many cars on the road that a small fraction of them doing some testing for them is a lot of
00:54:24
data and so now that ford is going to have a ton of evs on the road the mock-e f-150 is going to start being out there
00:54:31
they have a lot of cars with that sort of information and an internet connection and they can beam
00:54:36
that up and that can be very useful and hopefully one more step from that is electrify america who's servicing all of
00:54:42
those is hopefully now getting you know every new company that puts another line of evs out hopefully that's
00:54:48
more information for electrify america to start grabbing from and increasing that um and one more thing he talked
00:54:54
about which i thought was interesting was that he's working on trying to convince legislators to increase the ev
00:55:00
tax limit for the u.s um mentioning that a bunch of other countries have done that and that's not just for ford that's
00:55:07
just for everybody so but it would benefit forward obviously yeah yeah but it's you know
00:55:13
i'll take something that benefits ford if it means it also benefits literally all of us and gets the us onto the eve
00:55:20
yeah for those like unfamiliar the the the point of the the tax incentive was to accelerate the adoption of evs
00:55:26
exactly so every company was given a set number of cars that they could sell that are electric that would be uh rebated by
00:55:34
the government so if somebody bought the car they'd get a 7 000 something dollar
00:55:39
rebate on their taxes and then after they sold that number of cars the rebate would go down to 3 000. and then they
00:55:45
sold a certain number of cars it would go down to 1 000 and then it would be something else and then it would be zero and so tesla rocketed through that they
00:55:52
sold a ton of cars um and a lot of these companies who are just starting up they will get the full tax rebates ford sold
00:56:00
a lot of evs i'm sure they're somewhere i'm sure there's a stratosphere and so yes we would like to see uh many
00:56:06
more companies start to make more but also yeah if you if you bump the cap more ev adoption yeah for everyone
00:56:12
because that does 7 500 is a big jump actually that makes the assault era seven thousand dollars left it was the
00:56:18
only argument i saw to actually wanting the sole terror over some is that chances are subaru's going to sell less
00:56:24
than toyota or hyundai or kia so like it might actually be lower in price because
00:56:30
you have a better chance of getting the ev tax credit on it so that does put it down to 38
00:56:36
right yeah no 45 it was 42 right 45. no i'm saying
00:56:42
i don't know if the math is right i was just shaking my head late it's still not good enough no adam told me i was wrong oh it's still not good it's still not
00:56:47
good enough it's like yeah maybe 38 is good no no it's not not great um no that's that's i think where we're at
00:56:53
we're all very optimistic uh no yeah we'll we'll link the eevee interview from neli and jim down below also you
00:57:00
should definitely check out our ford f-100 video which was the outside one which is a whole separate version of
00:57:05
like what an eevee is but the experience i guess yeah exactly so that we'll link that below as well um but i think the
00:57:13
place to end would be to hit the trivia answers which were one was a car and one was
00:57:18
about trucks yeah was a truck okay refresh my memory adam where what was
00:57:23
the first the first trivia question let's start with the truck one right so the first one the rivian r1t won the
00:57:29
motor trend truck of the year for 2022. which truck won in 2021
00:57:35
truck motor trend track of the year 2021. now i don't know that many award winners
00:57:41
i know that the kia telluride was like the suv of the year or something i could see
00:57:46
that yeah uh but that might also be 2022 so it's probably some i don't know the
00:57:53
answer i don't i have a guess you do what's your my guess would be the ford maverick because it's this like
00:58:01
smaller sized truck that's also a hybrid and at a really really good price and a lot i know a lot of people are super
00:58:07
into it so it feels like something disrupting a little bit does the jeep count as a truck there are trucks um the
00:58:14
broncos popular but it's not a truck is it that's a confusing one because the old
00:58:19
bronco had like the detachable back roof which like i bet some people would consider a truck but i don't think the
00:58:26
new broncos do that do you guys want a hint should we uh do we both get that that
00:58:31
makes that means if he's asking for a hand sounds like definitely all right let's take the hint yeah we spoke about it in this episode
00:58:38
wow kind of oh whoa aj the 1500
00:58:43
the ram we mentioned the ram [Music] we spoke about it or mentioned it it's just
00:58:49
mentioned it okay so i've mentioned a bunch because i went down the list uh let me go with
00:58:56
is this a half credit point now that we got it in um we still both don't know it though yeah i don't know i don't think so i
00:59:02
think it could be a full point the only other thing i can think of is if you're right about like suvs counting as a
00:59:09
truck we did talk about the ascent for a minute and the ascent was subaru's like new three row car that everyone loved
00:59:16
because it's really cheap for like a three row yeah but is that a truck of these i don't think so
00:59:22
i'm just gonna go with the f no i'm gonna go with the ram 1500 i'm
00:59:29
wrong i'm i just i i liked my maverick guess yeah so i'm just gonna say even though i like that too
00:59:35
the ram 1500 trx oh trx okay yeah the tx is like the performance version
00:59:41
okay wow that's a point i'll take it all right what was the second oh with the red
00:59:46
camera right yep the red phone in august 2018 red released a hydrogen one smartphone the company also makes all
00:59:52
the cameras we use here in the studio the question is how many megapixels did the rear camera have in the red hydrogen
00:59:59
one so not only do i not know i'm scared of getting made fun of ford guessing an
01:00:05
answer that's so the camera system it was it was dual
01:00:11
cameras and they were advertising the ability to shoot stereoscopic 3d they were also
01:00:18
advertising the opportunity of like lenses on the back which doesn't change the megapixel but you have to assume
01:00:24
that the megapixels to be able to fit yeah never assume it has to be a good one because you're going to get all
01:00:29
these crazy add-ons so you can film a whole movie it we already know it was a letdown like we
01:00:35
don't have to rub it wow so uh the number that popped in my head is
01:00:40
12 because every everything's 12 but i i want to double double think here because
01:00:46
it was such a weird phone and they had two and there was like the the 3d screen
01:00:53
and they wanted to show 3d we took 3d videos and showed it and played it back for joe rogan remember
01:00:58
was was this not a um just sensor they pulled out it was it
01:01:03
was just a yeah sensor yeah i remember it it was just a regular sony sensor and red makes
01:01:09
cameras so like they could have made a sensor but they didn't i and everyone thought that was hilarious right so let
01:01:14
me just go with a standard sony sensor and it's a 12 megapixel sensor
01:01:22
andrew i'm just gonna agree with that because i i remember it being a well i wanna say there's so many different from what you say my second guess is gonna be
01:01:28
like 24 which is dumb which one is definitely not 24.
01:01:34
i don't know i just remember making fun of it because it was just a regular sensor and it's like bro you're red come on yeah it's just only 12 megapixel
01:01:41
sensor so i don't know who made it i'm assuming it was sony yeah but it was a dual 12.3
01:01:47
megapixels so yeah i'll give you the point for that yeah yeah they're all 12.2 or 12.3 yeah yeah that's a it was a
01:01:54
letdown rough every time i think about that phone i just get sad why'd we have so much high hopes for
01:02:00
that all right well that'll do it for this episode of the waveform podcast the wave forum uh section was quite long i
01:02:06
promise we'll have all kinds of other stuff coming up but also i'm really excited about one of the next videos we're working on on the channel um
01:02:12
spoiler alert it's not an eevee it's very very different we're replacing tim
01:02:18
yeah like that that's all you need to know uh but thanks for listening this week tune back in next week and we appreciate
01:02:24
