welcome back people of the internet to another episode of the waveform podcast we're your hosts I'm Marquez I'm Andrew
00:00:11
and in today's episode we got a little bit of a variety pack so we've got Sony's new lineup of gaming peripherals
00:00:17
that I'm just gonna say it looks like it's targeted for the PS5 but it's for a bunch of other stuff too
00:00:22
um but we also have an Eevee to talk about not just Tesla but a new one from Hyundai which looks really interesting
00:00:28
uh and we're also going to talk autopilot enhanced autopilot maybe what the differences are and why they're so
00:00:34
odd why they're charging differently now yeah yeah but first let's talk about this new Hyundai ionic 6 reveal I
00:00:40
actually saw an ionic 5 today on the way to the studio yeah uh it had a student driver sticker on the back that's weird
00:00:46
and that to me said uh oh wow this is a person who will probably never drive a
00:00:52
combustion engine car that's it's an interesting point I don't know like student driver cars they're
00:00:59
usually the ones doing like the tests in before your permit are those owned by the people driving like giving the test
00:01:05
or is it owned by the company doing it or are you if it has a it's a sticker that was on it was a sticker on the back
00:01:11
I think it can be it can be a company that just teaches people to drive teaches permanent drivers how to pass
00:01:16
the license test or just teaches first-time drivers it makes sense to do EV there just for gas because they're
00:01:22
not making the student driver pay for the gas um but at the other hand if you're then going to an ice engine afterwards that's
00:01:28
a little strange I guess it's not that different you just instead of driving an automatic it's just a smooth automatic
00:01:34
because there's only one gear you know basically the same thing yeah way more torque a little faster but
00:01:41
yeah all right cool um I think this is really neat um and I think looking at it
00:01:47
at first it's pretty unique um I want to say the first thing here with the naming I have nothing against
00:01:53
the ion X6 but the fact that is a bigger number for a smaller car is really confusing the whole time I was typing
00:01:59
this outline I was calling it the five and then assuming the five was the six so it's kind of like what pole star did
00:02:04
too right they have uh the Pulstar 2 and then the Pulstar three that goes bigger
00:02:10
yes and then the pole star four is like a car again so it'll be smaller so I don't know maybe they could have
00:02:16
separated why would anyone do logical naming it doesn't I guess this is just a tick tock sort of uh Evolution meaning
00:02:23
like tick talk you know what I mean you know not like not like Tick Tock but like small
00:02:30
jump to the five so it looks pretty cool yeah it's a cool no I actually like it
00:02:35
okay I retweeted it saying yeah the ionic six kind of looks like an Apple Magic Mouse which is kind of funny but
00:02:43
there were some other um interpretations that I liked of what it looks like a lot of people seem to be
00:02:50
seeing Porsche in this yes do you see Porsche okay I I wanted to describe it
00:02:55
as something which is gonna make it sound mean but uh it's not mean because I do like how this looks I was calling
00:03:00
it a wish.com Porsche because it's like it looks it has that same styling especially the back the back is very
00:03:07
similar with that like kind of uh spoiler on the back of it and then like the bar lighting and then the front of
00:03:14
it has this similar kind of curve up on the front where the headlights kind of curve up yeah but it's like sunk down a
00:03:20
little where if this was in a Porsche lot you would be like immediately you wouldn't think it looks
00:03:25
out of place but then you would see and be like something's just like a little different you do a double take it's like a bootleg version right in the parking
00:03:32
lot but those are great cars like so if you look kind of like that that's good that's not bad yeah I that's actually funny to me
00:03:39
when I see the side profile so it's a very Sleek car it's the most aerodynamic car uh to go into production tied for
00:03:47
the Lucid air with a drag coefficient of 0.21 um beats a lot of other cars it's so
00:03:52
sleek and low profile to me it actually looks just like remember the my back my back
00:03:57
you're talking about how it's like curved almost like a super long profile yeah it looks like a my back with a
00:04:03
little spoiler on the end of it but I like what Hyundai or what they've been am I saying Hyundai right okay wait I I
00:04:09
looked this up because we last time we mentioned this people said we were saying it wrong and of course we are
00:04:14
there are a lot of ways you can pronounce it to be fair Hyundai is like how it is just pronounced in the US from
00:04:20
their own marketing like the commercials we've listened to our entire life is hilarious yeah okay apparently I looked
00:04:27
it up in Korean it's like pretty hard to pronounce if you don't speak Korean it
00:04:32
is a Christian Korean company I think it was like a young Dai but but nobody says look it up if you're
00:04:40
wondering look it up we're gonna call it Hyundai right because that's how we grew up with it and that's how it's they call
00:04:46
it here can I just use that exact same logic to defend my box I was gonna say you just said that and I was like that's
00:04:52
another thing I've been told it's definitely my Bach but if you just finished listening to a Rick Ross song
00:04:58
you can say Maybach because I I did I don't get that right it's how he says it in his songs okay yeah so anyway yeah
00:05:04
the ionic six it's a unique looking UV I guess my questions when I see this it's like okay I really like what Hyundai's
00:05:09
been doing I see a Hyundai behind me on the highway and I'm like whoever's doing their headlights shout out to them oh they have some I like their lights
00:05:15
they're they're having fun with it yeah they're unique and they're not afraid to try new stuff yeah the Santa Cruz has
00:05:20
and some of their other SUVs has like that crazy Grill where the lights almost blend into it like a v-shape then didn't
00:05:26
they do the was it the Elantra where headlights almost continued up the front
00:05:32
trunk like seam yeah and like glowed up to that they're they're having fun for
00:05:37
sure daytime running lights are going crazy yeah so when I see a new Hyundai car I already like the aesthetic I'm
00:05:43
curious about Wells and EV so price range and charging speed yeah mainly
00:05:49
those three things I think it's pretty safe to say the like base of this is probably going to be insanely similar if
00:05:55
not exactly the same as the Onyx 5. right it's not that the ionic 5 is a
00:06:01
taller car and like an SUV but overall it's pretty similar for reference that's
00:06:06
about 45 Grand and has about a 300 mile range starting at yeah starting at 44
00:06:13
303 mile range um it has it's some of the best charging uh in terms of speeds is so it's like
00:06:20
it's great I think it's one of the best deals for an EV out there pending uh car dealership markups of course you know
00:06:27
what but like we I think we have to look at it at MSRP because that's the only way to stay insane and hopefully we'll
00:06:33
be sold out yeah yeah yeah um and so I can imagine it I think people think
00:06:38
it's going to be cheaper because it's a sedan rather than like a crossover SUV like the ionic 5 is I just don't think
00:06:45
it'll be that much cheaper uh it'll be in the same class 40 is where I'd put it maybe as the lowest
00:06:51
um which is still great I still would like to see 30 but you know yeah baby
00:06:56
steps getting closer yep the CNet cars article we'll Link in the description has like all the information that is
00:07:02
confirmed that we can possibly talk about but they're saying it'll go on sale in the US in 2023 next year and the
00:07:09
ionic 7 that follows the year after will be back to an SUV again that's a huge SUV I think um
00:07:15
I was gonna say because of the drag coefficient on this and let's assume it's the same battery pack and like base
00:07:21
as the ionic five do we think this will get more range and if so how much more
00:07:27
range um okay given the same drivetrain I
00:07:32
would say it'll get slightly more range let's say enough to uh like drastically
00:07:39
change the EPA rating on what they Market it as it might have a different number yeah it might get a different rating like when I consider Arrow like
00:07:45
when I change wheels for example and I have different like Arrow Caps or take the arrow caps off like you can get a
00:07:51
substantial difference in range but I think um things like shape of the car and the
00:07:56
the best drag coefficient versus like a decent drag coefficient might cost you like five percent
00:08:03
five to eight percent let's say so over 300 miles that's 15 to 25 miles okay so
00:08:09
not dramatic but like I don't know anything about the drag coefficient number and what is good but the ionic 5
00:08:15
is 0.288 which is pretty good and anything under 0.4 is pretty good anything under 0.3 is really good okay
00:08:21
and then the best of the best are like the loosens 0.21 I think a Model S is 0.24 okay same with model three so like
00:08:27
yeah 0.288 pretty low so the ionic five is all already a really good coefficient yep we're gonna assume you're gonna
00:08:34
guess 15 miles something extra which then that's EPA rating which then
00:08:39
probably is probably pretty close Okay um I did want to say uh I thought this
00:08:45
was really interesting and one of the articles I saw somebody brought up the Hyundai prophecy which was their concept
00:08:50
card from 2020. do you remember that never heard of that game I posted a link in here I want to look at it because it
00:08:56
kind of clearly seems like this is where that concept card went to yeah the ionic six is what the prophecy turned into and
00:09:03
it's just just like the most perfect example of what we talk about when we say
00:09:08
be careful with Concept cars because it doesn't look like that at the end yeah this concept car is nuts and it was two
00:09:15
years ago it's clearly what the six is but like look at the in the interior has
00:09:21
like two not even handles yeah like handles that push forward and backwards
00:09:26
that I'm guessing turn in and out and those that's how you drive it I know there's some some confusion about whether Tesla's yoke was legal or not I
00:09:33
just there's no way this is legal like this isn't even a wheel this isn't even like fighter jet this is like completely
00:09:40
new it's like the air it's like the Gunner inside of like a bomber or something if I see this car with a
00:09:46
student driver sticker on the back I assume they will never learn how to drive a car I'll never go on the wheels Road ever again
00:09:52
um but it's got It's a cool looking car this is like the insanely futuristic but it has the same similar like spoiler in
00:09:59
the back kind of that like yeah squared off bottom after the spoiler and then the rounded front with the headlights
00:10:05
it's more model three-ish I think um look at the tail lights on this thing though I love them there I love them
00:10:12
incredible you know what they remind me of a real car incorrectly a real car okay the Bugatti Diva oh never mind
00:10:18
that's what I was thinking okay if you look up the Bugatti DeVos tail lights well this is a real car that actually exists it has basically this type of
00:10:25
headlight which is wild so the and now I don't know if I'm pronouncing it correct I'm going to say Maybach the tail lights
00:10:31
and that actually were while they were inside the tail lights it had individual so what this Hyundai has is oh yeah it's
00:10:39
kind of like uh almost like crystals coming out and then those crystals have LEDs inside them and light up the
00:10:45
crystals which then inform turns into I think that's okay that's really something that is sick I mean it's a five million dollar car so like that
00:10:51
one's ever gonna see one yeah the Maybach though had inside the tail lights had those individual like yes
00:10:56
crystalisks stalagmite stalactites down lit up and I thought it looked really neat um this is obviously the old
00:11:02
concept that didn't actually happen but it still looks really cool ends though like the spoiler has this weird like LED
00:11:08
waveform s cooking thing on it and Hyundai's like carved into the back with
00:11:13
lights but um I guess my thought when I see all these concept cars is like each manufacturer when they make a
00:11:20
concept car has an intention to get a different amount close to that car does
00:11:25
that make sense yeah so when Tesla rolls out a concept car a lot of times their
00:11:31
intention is to get as close to that as possible the concept car model S and the first one they ever shipped and the ones
00:11:36
that shipped like to the masses right after that were very similar uh the Porsche Mission E when we saw that
00:11:42
concept car it was pretty close to what we have as if I can now and then we see
00:11:48
like the CES concept cars the Sony concept where all these crazy ones yeah
00:11:53
and we know that there is no intention to match that on the road but it will take some ideas and some shapes from
00:12:01
that concept card to reality this reminds me of kind of like remember Mercedes did that one with like the
00:12:07
giant LED Tron wheels and stuff like that yeah this is closer to that the mission e was like
00:12:13
skirting that line they got the wheels yeah they got the wheels I like that yeah but I would highly suggest if
00:12:19
you're listening to this on audio and not on video where we have the pictures to compare them like whenever we talk about concept cars like don't expect it
00:12:27
to look like that look up the Hyundai prophecy and now look up the ionic six and you can see the similarities but you
00:12:32
could also see the grave grave differences of like we're expecting The Jetsons future and like yeah we are
00:12:38
solidified no door handles no mirrors no steering wheel the seats spin around it's like face backwards this says plaid
00:12:45
LED seats yeah it's amazing they should bring that in though I would do that
00:12:51
um but yeah that's the nx6 I'm really excited for it we want to take a guess on price let's say
00:12:57
over under 40 40. over under 40. yes so like over
00:13:03
over yeah so do you think like I think my optimistic is like
00:13:10
39.99 which is basically pretty optimistic especially today when or next
00:13:16
year I don't know I feel like the car buying situation and this MSRP even MSRP
00:13:22
is like tough just based on like how hard it is to build cars right now I'm thinking under 50 but over 40. you think
00:13:28
it'll be more expensive than the five I think it'll be around 1344 you think it'll just be same price yeah yeah
00:13:34
I can I think I'm 40 at that and 60 at
00:13:40
like right at 40 or for like 42. okay if they could go 39.99 though then they can
00:13:46
say it's under 40. of course starting and that's we could be marketing yeah keep an eye on it for next year uh we'll
00:13:52
take a quick break we gotta talk a bunch of Sony gaming stuff but of course before we do that we got some trivia
00:13:58
so we're gonna change paths here a little bit okay which of the following desserts was not the name of a version
00:14:05
of Android nougat Gumdrop or honeycomb or new God if we're talking about
00:14:12
pronouncing things nice okay is that how you pronounce that I don't know some people say yeah I think it's nougat but
00:14:18
I don't like that yeah BRB [Music]
00:14:31
all right welcome back so let's do a little bit of a live First Impressions a
00:14:37
little bit of a live waveform first look at something yeah we're like weirdly busy but also it's the middle of the
00:14:43
summer but we have a lot of stuff going on on studio and Main Channel but we also just an embargo dropped of this new
00:14:49
Sony gaming they're calling it The End Zone line it's a new brand yeah Sony gaming brand trust me when I say we have
00:14:56
a lot of other stuff in the works but I didn't get a chance to look at this stuff so I've seen that the videos are out the embargoes are out I haven't
00:15:02
watched or seen any of it yeah I know we have the stuff why don't you walk me through each of them and I'll give you
00:15:08
my actual live real first time Impressions okay um yeah so pretty much
00:15:13
they released a couple of gaming headsets and a new monitor I'm guessing like I said it's called The End Zone
00:15:19
line I'm assuming this is similar to like Asus Rog line or logitech's G line
00:15:26
um and it makes a lot of sense right Sony does PlayStation they do some PlayStation accessories Sony also make
00:15:31
takes great headphones some of the best ones some of our favorites and they also make like while not as popular their TVs
00:15:38
are incredible their displays Tech is great is that what it's called I actually didn't know yeah they have a
00:15:43
Bravia line of TVs I just know at CES there's some of the ones I'm the most impressed about because they have them
00:15:49
in like a dark room and just this colors and everything look incredible their panels are great yeah their panels are
00:15:54
fantastic so let's um let's start headphones because I don't have the monitor here because setting it up at
00:16:00
the podcast room would be kind of annoying but I can tell you about that and we can discuss it because it's a very interesting monitor um yeah we have
00:16:06
two of their new headsets they're basically all the same though so we're we're going to look at the H9 they have
00:16:13
an H3 and H7 and an H9 pretty much what it is is the H9 is wireless and noise
00:16:18
canceling the H7 is only Wireless and the H9 is wired and no noise h3s H3
00:16:25
sorry yeah so they're just stepped down sure um okay so I'm gonna hold this first pair
00:16:32
explain what you think about them so which one is this H9 these are the h9s we're gonna look at those because they
00:16:37
have everything so all right so this is a first of all the aesthetic is very much like PlayStation
00:16:45
we all know what the PS5 looks like it's black and white it's very sleek and it has like very gentle rounded curves and
00:16:51
that's exactly what this pair of headphones looks like here um it's very over ear and these are some
00:16:57
big cuffs huge sizes so I'm gonna put it on I've actually heard
00:17:02
people try and compare them to the xm5s and I don't really see it to be honest
00:17:08
it's very it's lightweight they're big and lightweight is important like when they're huge headphones you don't expect
00:17:14
them to be like yes but they're comfortable and light so it's good I do they look a little bit and maybe just
00:17:20
because it's the design Choice was white and black the um play the Sony Pulse 3DS which are the PlayStation ones which I
00:17:27
didn't like at all um they were like way more rigid they were really light but
00:17:32
they kind of felt um like really cheap I think and while I think this plastic's almost identical to
00:17:39
those since the the design and the whole package is like a little more sleek and
00:17:44
a little uh I don't know just like more put together and thinner and uh it just feels
00:17:52
sturdier with that same plastic that's light which is nice to have on your head for a long time if you're playing games
00:17:57
getting sweaty playing some intense games on the PS5 ear cups are massive
00:18:02
which gives you a lot of room for your ears it's super light but also um these remind me of like uh do not see
00:18:09
yes they always have those like the RO and the whole robot section all the robots are like this glossy white and
00:18:16
they have giant heads like this looks like if a a CS robot was doing like lawn care and wait is it protects tears this
00:18:22
looks like an air traffic controller yeah yeah doesn't it does it's huge it's got the mic on the on the left side of
00:18:28
the ear cup so you can definitely talk to people um but yeah no this is solid how much what is the price for the H9 uh 2.99
00:18:37
okay it's pretty expensive it's pretty expensive I'll kind of go over what so noise cancellation is not anything new
00:18:43
in gaming headsets and wireless is not something new at all um this does also have an ambient version which I kind of
00:18:50
wanted to talk about because I think ambient noise is kind of going to be the new selling point in gaming headsets
00:18:57
um the steelseries Arctic Nova Wireless Pros very long name they just came out
00:19:04
everyone's obsessed with them they're like 2.99 is no they might be 350 or so um but anyways they have ambient now too
00:19:11
um I think that's going to be the new thing that we're going to see in all these top level gaming headsets this is what we've started seeing in the
00:19:18
everyday noise canceling headphones and more and more often you need some sort of transparency mode if you're going to wear these outside yes they're going to
00:19:24
be versatile you need to be able to hear stuff around you in a gaming headset wow there's definitely a pun in here
00:19:30
somewhere so you're playing a game you got the noise cancellation on you're in the zone
00:19:36
Right End Zone get it I didn't make that connection before you're in the zone
00:19:41
um but then you you check your watch and you realize oh it's probably going to be time to eat or something here because I
00:19:49
can't get out of my gaming chair my doorbell might ring whatever so I need to just turn on transparency mode and hear other things then I'll I need that
00:19:55
feature it's a useful feature it's something I think is important I wear open back an open back headset I use the
00:20:01
Sennheiser game ones which I'm still obsessed with um but if you're living with somebody it's
00:20:07
really nice to have transparency or open back like that because if they're trying to get your attention and you can't hear
00:20:13
them it's going to come down to them tapping on the shoulder and it's going to scare that overloving out of you like it
00:20:19
is terrifying when you're really into a game and someone comes up behind you and like Taps you on the shoulder yeah yeah so especially if it's a certain game
00:20:25
yeah exactly yeah if you're playing like a horror game have you ever seen the videos of like the kids the guys like
00:20:31
little kid comes up while he's playing horror game and he doesn't start screaming yeah if you had open back that would never happen exactly so I I do
00:20:38
think that's what you'd also never be in the zone because you never have to cancel well you have a button to get into the Zone
00:20:44
they should call it the end zone button they shouldn't call it noise canceling but um the the active noise canceling is
00:20:51
pretty solid on this when nothing's playing you can hear voices pretty easily which I didn't love but if you
00:20:57
have music or some sound going on like it's pretty good it's pretty similar to the xm5s or the XM line in general which
00:21:04
we can only assume they're very similar like yeah so some
00:21:09
of these companies like you know you wonder how much the Departments talk to each other I wouldn't be shocked if a lot of the same pieces and the same
00:21:16
Technologies are shared between these I mean it's a separate it's got a similar feel despite looking a bit different
00:21:21
like exactly all the padding is similar very soft they both they sound fantastic
00:21:27
I think they sound really really good um do you want to do us do you want to listen to something on them oh is it
00:21:32
prepared let me know yeah sure I do think they sound really good they
00:21:37
get stupid loud like oh they light up yeah yeah I think that's really nice same thing with the PS5 it lights up
00:21:44
somewhere around the velocity plastic with the blue ring so there is a um you'll see there's a noise canceling
00:21:50
ambient button it actually has three modes and I'm a little confused because it doesn't list online what it is
00:21:55
exactly noise canceling off and transparent yeah I think that's what it is it's there's like an off in between
00:22:01
okay um let's see I really look like I'm about to launch a fighter pilot uh while
00:22:08
also playing PlayStation 5. yeah is this the dongle yes okay which SBA dongle USB
00:22:15
a dongle but um does this come with I don't know most gaming headsets do this because
00:22:20
Bluetooth you use it 2.4 gigahertz wireless rather than Bluetooth so you
00:22:25
don't have any latency but let's uh let's play this you can describe to us what it's like so right now transparency
00:22:32
mode is on so it sounds like a normal set of headphones I'm gonna hit the button now it's off and one more time
00:22:40
that was good I'm in the zone right now are you in the
00:22:46
zone I can't hear me at all this is always the time where I just debate if I want to pretend that I'm talking or
00:22:52
actually talking about volume's not even that loud and I can't hear crank it crank it all the way it's loud
00:22:59
I can hear it in my headphones this is Marquez it's just for audio listeners he's just sitting next to the
00:23:06
microphone like normal and you can hear it coming through these things get loud
00:23:13
yeah this is good this is really good really good yeah I mean obviously I know what the the mark 5 sound like these do
00:23:19
sound different they sound um actually a little bit wider in soundstage which is interesting okay uh
00:23:27
not as much mid base like they have bass but they do sound tinnier than the mark
00:23:32
well they sound tinnier than some other headphones I've ever listen to but very good noise cancellation once you've got
00:23:39
something going and I mean with the volume it can go out who needs noise cancellation because you're just blowing your eardrums but um do you want to know
00:23:46
something they do do that the xm5s do not do what oh they actually fold the right way
00:23:53
folds the correct way twist into your chest sorry they don't fold but they do they twist yeah yeah sorry so they twist
00:23:59
so they're flat on your chest and sits nicely on your so you know when you have to like take your headset off and yell
00:24:05
at mom to bring you lunch or Pot pizza rolls or something like that like it's nice and comfy here when you have to
00:24:11
take it off and then you can put it back on so you'd never have to listen to your mom again so yeah we're trying the noise cancellation on yeah
00:24:18
I kind of dig these solid as long as no one sees me wearing them I don't love how they look but you know that's fine I
00:24:26
went out and spent a lot of money on speakers for my gaming setup at home so I wouldn't buy headphones for gaming but
00:24:32
if I was doing like PC gaming which these are also great for well that's what's cool about these is they have a
00:24:38
dongle that can connect to your PS5 or your PC whereas yeah all of Sony stuff before was clearly for the PS5 this is
00:24:44
getting into the PC World of things and I think that's really awesome wearing headphones for like a lot of PC gaming
00:24:51
is like really important because if you have to listen for like footsteps or something like in a lot of more competitive things that's what you need
00:24:57
to use headphones yeah yeah and I feel like that's also good for when you have noise cancellation which these h9s do
00:25:03
you can turn them the volume down but you can still hear a bunch of the small like footsteps and rustling and stuff
00:25:08
because it is so good noise cancellations on and while without destroying your ears because you just
00:25:14
have the volume up really yeah which we all are gonna do anyways but and you can do with these um yeah I really dig these 299 is pretty
00:25:21
expensive but we're getting to that point um if you're okay without noise cancellation the h7s Are Wireless don't
00:25:28
have them and if you really don't care about anything um uh h7s are 229 but then the h3s wired
00:25:35
no noise cancellation are nine or a hundred bucks okay I think that's a solid deal if you just want to build the same like they're comfortable yeah
00:25:41
exactly yeah that's a good idea probably what I'd recommend to people I'm assuming that I actually haven't
00:25:46
even opened this box but you know let's just check real quick for live unboxing live unboxing you know
00:25:54
just I'm definitely doing just as good of a job as you would do I'm definitely not rushing and ripping
00:26:00
the box or anything Casey Style
00:26:07
oh wait these are a little different oh just kidding oh wait what you gotta take the
00:26:13
cardboard off no just kidding
00:26:19
it's breaking everything I was not meant to be a reviewer these I kind of like these ear cuffs better they're like
00:26:25
cloth I like cloth better all right just kidding these are quite a bit different not in a bad way
00:26:34
but they don't light up the way the ear cups are connected are totally different the ear the foam pads are totally
00:26:40
different still of your volume control the microphones a bit flimsier it's
00:26:45
black instead of ways black instead of white still has that PS5 vibe to it but
00:26:51
definitely okay yeah there it is all right chances are these will be available at like this
00:26:57
I don't know for sure but like I always tell people with a lot of gaming stuff especially like mice keyboard is get
00:27:03
something that feels best for you because most of them perform pretty similarly like especially a mouse or
00:27:10
something run to a Best Buy and try it out real quick put your hand on it or you know order from Amazon and then you
00:27:16
can just return it I'd probably rather go to the store and try it out but yeah I think these are pretty cool uh let's
00:27:23
talk about the monitor real quick which will be a much shorter one because it's a monitor and um we can't have it right
00:27:29
in front of us but it is super interesting um it looks very cool yeah I see the uh the new aesthetic it's it's
00:27:35
also black and white has a similar PS5 uh design to it so it looks like it
00:27:40
could easily literally go next to a PS5 on a like a college dorm desk if you wanted it to but it is a normal monitor
00:27:46
you can use with any PC it is and but the stand is also pretty unique and rather as a flat base that we see most
00:27:54
stands with it actually has like a tripod system yeah and then even what's different about that is the two legs
00:28:01
that are next to each other in the back and it's got one leg facing forward towards you and that's the leg that the
00:28:06
monitor is actually on right um and because of that this slide up and down feature rather
00:28:12
than just going up and down in height it comes forward as well is that a good
00:28:17
thing or is that let me I need to show you I guess because there are a few people who play like that and right
00:28:23
people who play like that are usually playing very competitive games and their face is like inches from the monitor so
00:28:30
when the monitor is higher up it's also further from you and when the monitor is down at the bottom of the stand it's closer it can be right there there are a
00:28:36
lot of people and this also is probably terrible posture as well but um they'll
00:28:42
play with a monitor essentially rather than directly in front of their eyesight it's down and tilted up so they're
00:28:48
looking down at it and then they have their hands spread really wide around it I know it sounds crazy but there are a
00:28:55
lot a lot of people who play like this I mean gamer ergonomics
00:29:02
these people look like their nose is like touching the screen pretty much I
00:29:08
got the immediate instinct to say something a parent would probably say oh you're gonna burn your ass basically
00:29:13
yeah there just are a lot of a lot of people play like that I think this monitor default gives you a possibility
00:29:20
to do that which might be interesting um let's go over that was the stand just
00:29:25
the stand though um the specs on it are pretty awesome 4K 144 Hertz 27 inches g-sync's HDR 600 IPS
00:29:34
it's like this thing it's kind of it's a beast it's it's a
00:29:39
great monitor um yeah I think it looks fantastic 144 Hertz is amazing
00:29:45
especially when you're going 4K so like the way I see this is there are a lot of people who prefer different things if
00:29:51
you only play one type of game if you're a competitive type of you only care you don't care about resolution you care
00:29:57
about uh refresh rate so like I have a 280 Hertz 1080p monitor 24 inch so
00:30:04
that's like if I were to play something uh why do I always
00:30:10
if I wanted to play something like uh one of the new single player games or that's like super visually immersive my
00:30:18
monitor would suck for it but I'm playing valorant so all I can I play low settings on a cartoon game and it's just
00:30:24
like as many frames as possible could you tell this random question could you tell the difference like how far from
00:30:29
280 Hertz could you go before noticing that it's like can you tell 165 versus
00:30:35
280 no I could not I guarantee you I could not tell it's just like the newer ones at 1080 24
00:30:42
inches which is what I like is they're just like they're not that expensive anymore so to me like getting
00:30:49
the higher refresh rate and having a lower chance of it ever spiking under that is just what I'm gonna go for I
00:30:54
there are people out there who can I'm sure those top 0.5 of professional
00:31:00
Esports players or like you know they're so calibrated they could tell they could tell 240 different 280 sure but which is
00:31:06
I think a reason why this is cool because 144 Hertz is kind of was the standard for a while it's really great
00:31:12
but you also get 4k so like if you want to take this Monitor and play a competitive game at 144 and bump the
00:31:20
resolution down so you don't sacrifice your fans you can do that with this but you also can
00:31:25
put in a game that's in 4k and has great resolutions and maybe you only play that at 60 but then you know Forza you're
00:31:32
playing that and it still looks fantastic 27 inch is kind of that middle ground between 24 and 32 which are the
00:31:39
standard I always think of 32 as the immersive one and 24 as the competitive one and hey if you ever need to use a
00:31:45
monitor for other things other than gaming you now have a 4K 27 inch monitor so yeah that's pretty nice I think where
00:31:51
I come down to this is it feels like a monitor that's like capable of doing both ends of the spectrum sure and you
00:31:57
know maybe jack of all trades master of none but it's really good in between and like I think there are people who do
00:32:04
play both types of games and would really really like this um I have one caveat of why I don't love
00:32:11
this stand okay if you're someone who uses a desk mat because the front foot
00:32:16
faces forward if you're using a desk mat that goes between your mouse and your keyboard and has some extra space the
00:32:22
minute that things kind of like on a desk mat because the surface area is so small it wobbles
00:32:29
um and if you're if you don't have like a full desk mat where all three feet are on it and only the front foot's on it
00:32:36
it's wobbly so you gotta either put it too far away or Too Close to You to get rid of the wobble to get all the legs on
00:32:42
the desk mat yeah I would prefer it to be on hard so again I would prefer to be all off that which you could just be get
00:32:49
a huge mousepad and don't have a mat under your keyboard which a lot of people do but I don't know very nitpicky
00:32:55
it wouldn't work I would put it on an arm immediately and then you kind of lose the fun alternate version get some
00:33:00
scissors and cut a little Notch out of the top of your uh they should sell a mouse pad that has with the inside out
00:33:08
yeah there you go there you go um a price for that 8.99 I don't want to go too long on this but um I used it for
00:33:15
like a week I've tried it on Valerian I've tried it on you know I put no man's sky on it I played no man's sky for a
00:33:21
little bit um maybe I'll get into that it looked beautiful it's it's a a really
00:33:26
really nice looking monitor I think it looks amazing in like a setup for if you care more about the picture of your
00:33:31
setup than you do about actually looking yeah it's a fantastic looking monitor sweet well we do have to take another
00:33:37
break but when we come back we're going to talk all about Tesla's enhanced autopilot versus regular autopilot versus just self-driving or whatever
00:33:43
they're calling this stuff but we got to take a little bit of a trivia question too before we go
00:33:48
so this one is a little bit difficult maybe not I don't know we'll see who
00:33:54
founded YouTube there are three founders you get one point for each
00:34:01
that's definitely a tough one found it I think I know one okay that's more than
00:34:07
me we'll find out I'm gonna embarrass myself after the
00:34:12
break after the break [Music]
00:34:22
welcome back I I saw something in the headline in a headline
00:34:28
um about I think it actually started on Twitter someone told Elon Musk that they should sell enhanced autopilot for six
00:34:34
thousand dollars as a middle step between I guess a stock car and full
00:34:41
self-driving to start this off I need you to help me kind of understand what the difference
00:34:46
between all of these are because the naming is impossible I even tried to look it up on Tesla's website and it was
00:34:52
a tad confusing um so what I got was all the cars have autopilot then there is
00:34:59
now at least and there used to be enhanced autopilot and now there's also full self-driving and that's beta but
00:35:06
at what point did oh man I'm even having a hard time just explaining what I'm trying to get
00:35:13
explained to me the worst part about this is that all of this changes all the time especially how much the things cost
00:35:20
and whether or not you can get them yes but I can try to break down in simple
00:35:25
terms what each thing is it's sort of like three levels okay three levels to it let's start this might help me what
00:35:32
do you do you have any of it on your your car right now I have enhanced autopilot you have enhanced autopilot on
00:35:37
your current model S yes and was that something you had to pay for yes how
00:35:42
much was that I think it was ten thousand dollars when I bought the car so but but that gives you full
00:35:49
self-driving as well if you can get into it you just don't have it now you have the full self-driving capability I paid
00:35:54
for everything including full software I only have and when you were buying that
00:36:00
at that time there were only two options there was nothing which I think they can they still consider that cruise control
00:36:06
and Lane you still get that yeah that is the base model yep but when you paid for it you only had add nothing or you get
00:36:13
enhanced autopilot and full self-driving right okay now they're splitting a tier into there okay
00:36:20
yeah I you know maybe it's just about how much trust you have in the system so you can sort of upgrade halfway and
00:36:26
maybe you don't want full start driving but I can here here's what's here's what sure yeah every single car has what's called
00:36:33
autopilot they all have the hardware for it it is a terrible name awful it is not what autopilot is
00:36:40
um ignoring what autopilot actually is in like an airplane or something like that uh what Tesla calls it is just
00:36:45
basically normal uh Lane keep and traffic aware cruise control yeah so not
00:36:50
just like keeping you at 60 miles an hour in the lane but if someone cuts in front of you it slows down and speeds back up and it holds your lane so Auto
00:36:57
steer so on a highway it's cool for like relaxing you can take your hand off the
00:37:02
wheel once in a while it'll follow the lanes fine that's normal I feel like it helps like fight fatigue a little bit
00:37:09
like if you're taking a long trip and you can just have that cruise control and helping with Lane assist you still
00:37:15
have to be you know eyes on the road yourself to be paying attention all of these you still have to be doing that but that helps like
00:37:21
keep your be a little less uh mentally fatigued I like it for stop and go traffic that's mainly when I use it I
00:37:27
don't really use it that much but when I am in stop and go like move up 100 yards and move up another 100 yards yeah this
00:37:33
is yeah that's great for that a lot of cars have that cool dumb name then then there is enhanced
00:37:39
autopilot okay which is uh everything that I've been able to enjoy so far because I don't have the full stop
00:37:44
driving video but this is a little bit more advanced this has uh features like summon uh Auto Park which can you can
00:37:50
pull up next to a spot and hit hold down the park button it'll parallel park in a spot for you which is cool uh or
00:37:56
perpendicular Park um and auto lane change so you put your blinker on on the highway and it'll change lanes for you and then turn the
00:38:01
blinker off and then navigate on autopilot will take you basically to the end of an exit ramp and then go ding
00:38:08
ding Take the Wheel so it'll it'll get you off of a highway or onto a highway but then it won't do city streets or
00:38:14
Suburban streets or anything like that okay so it's a little bit more than just highway driving okay then there's what
00:38:21
you see all that the headlines about um which is people testing full self-driving maybe that's actually aptly
00:38:27
named because basically it should be able to take you from point A to point B by itself yeah it'll pull out of a
00:38:35
parking lot onto a Suburban or City street it'll stop at stop signs stop lights all traffic control devices
00:38:41
basically and take you all the way to your destination so that's full self-driving while I have paid for it
00:38:48
I don't have it because it is in beta and it has been for years and the only way in right now is I think to have a
00:38:56
safety score of like 97 or better I thought it went down delighted maybe a
00:39:01
little less but still that is a hard safety screen I'm not getting in okay um okay that clears things up a little
00:39:07
bit so I guess the reason while a lot of people probably know that especially people listening to this podcast I'm
00:39:14
trying to figure out because I've seen some people who on Reddit and on Twitter
00:39:20
mostly Quinn we all love some Quinn rants yeah um saying that this middle
00:39:26
price now of enhanced autopilot seems kind of ridiculous and I'm trying to figure out why because I
00:39:34
agree and don't agree with it at the same time I think it's a weird spot I I
00:39:39
think it's funny because a lot of high-end cars and high-tech cars have a lot of these features already and you're
00:39:45
not going to go pay extra for them yeah so you know just traffic wear cruise control that's kind of a given in a new
00:39:51
car any car has a new car has that right in a new higher end car auto park is a
00:39:57
increasingly common feature yes right you can frequently have Lane changes or things like my car does blinker assisted
00:40:04
is that is that yeah blinker assist you turn it on it changes I I will fully
00:40:09
agree that the Tesla version is going to be far better than a Subaru or something like that but a lot of these lower end cars are having stuff like that the the
00:40:17
traffic aware cruise control Lane keep Lane changing with but it doesn't cost a
00:40:24
ton more it doesn't cost anything extra it's usually stock yeah so I understand the request from people to to go look I
00:40:32
don't want full self-driving I don't think that is coming out of beta anytime soon I don't want to have to pay 10
00:40:37
grand or whatever it is to get that but I do want summon yeah or I do want like to just be able to exit a highway or to
00:40:44
just have the lane change stuff like I just want that you don't have to pay ten thousand dollars for that so just give
00:40:49
us a tier halfway to full self driving where I get the advanced or enhanced autopilot features I'm doing air quotes
00:40:55
for audio listeners but not all the way so I get that request the price is I don't know how much is it
00:41:02
like six percent is that what it is full self driving 12 now some probably
00:41:07
something I think it's like 12 so it's half the price I think where I agree with this
00:41:13
where I would agree that it should cost more money is the things that seem to be super unique are smart summon I don't
00:41:19
know any other car that's doing that yeah the TR the traffic or the the navigation based
00:41:26
I don't know how like how often do you use that or do you use it very often personally I almost never use it I
00:41:32
really so personally I only really use like stop and go traffic cruise control other than that like I tried smart
00:41:39
summon once in a parking lot I think it was actually okay you might have been there this was uh or maybe not it was an
00:41:44
overnight tournament for Frisbee and we came outside and it was pouring rain and so everyone's like zombieing out of this
00:41:51
like Dome you know leaving a frisbee tournament it's me it's four in the morning it's pouring rain and I go you
00:41:57
know what I'm gonna summon my car over here and I I hit the summon button I hold it down
00:42:02
but it's at the same time as like 15 other cars all leaving the parking lot and it was embarrassingly bad it didn't
00:42:07
make it to me I just gave up and walked through the rain into the my car was in the middle of a parking lot just with a hazards on like not not doing anything
00:42:14
so smart summon is probably cool when it works sometimes I've seen some great viral videos where it works perfectly
00:42:20
we've had we do remember when we smart some into your car and Brandon's car at the same time they almost crashed it
00:42:27
they almost just like drove into each other because they were both going to get you what were they but one went too
00:42:34
far and then started backing up and the other was still coming forward and then they I think both of you guys just hit the stop button and that's released yeah
00:42:40
okay so like uh auto lane change I I feel like should just be on regular
00:42:46
autopilot we're seeing most cars with that at some point um navigate on autopilot I'm it's not
00:42:53
even that much it doesn't seem like if it's just getting you on the exit I guess it's good if you're like the only
00:42:58
I can say it's good if you're not paying attention to your GPS but you should be paying attention to your job that's exactly what it is you'll be in like the
00:43:04
Middle Lane and you have your exit coming up in one mile and it'll just go I'm gonna get you over now and it puts the blinker on and changes lanes and
00:43:10
gets you to the exit ramp and then takes the exit ramp and while you're on the ramp it goes all right time for you to take over so if you're really not paying
00:43:17
attention it'll get you there but like if you're a mile from your exit usually
00:43:22
the Habit is what just turn off autopilot yeah and drive over to your right side if it if you're going if
00:43:27
you're taking an exit off a highway onto another Highway will it merge onto the next Highway and continue uh I've never
00:43:34
had to do that it always stops during the ramp okay for me I that sounds like the safe ramps are kind of terrifying
00:43:40
sometimes um just the way other people drive on them so like that that doesn't seem that crazy to me auto park that's definitely
00:43:48
not super common yet but like you said is becoming more common um and then some and smart summon
00:43:55
kind of a party trick yeah kind of a party I don't want to say gimmick but it feels pretty good as someone who has the
00:44:01
feature and has observed exactly how good it is I I would not pay for it yeah so now you take that list of what I just
00:44:08
said because those are the enhanced autopilots whereas traffic aware cruise control and auto steer are things that
00:44:14
just are on stock stock do you pay six thousand dollars for that
00:44:19
no yeah I have a really really hard time thinking of someone who would pay six
00:44:24
grand for that I already paid for full self-driving and I hope to someday get
00:44:30
in yeah that would be cool and I think I would actually use that occasionally I think there would be you know a very
00:44:36
limited number of times but a small number of times where I'm just like I don't really feel like driving by the way it's a fun car to drive I like
00:44:42
driving so I don't actually use this stuff that much but as sewn on the bleeding edge I'm like yeah let's see what it does I want to see if it'll work
00:44:48
and I would do it once in a while if I could spend 12 Grand right now for my car to drive me from my house to work
00:44:54
every day I have a pretty long commute that's not fun it's just a straight line I would pay that in an instant if it
00:45:00
worked perfectly and I could literally disengage completely yep that's not what it is yet yeah um but so do you think
00:45:07
though that's six grand let's say we're not paying it do you think these things in enhanced autopilot should be brought
00:45:14
down to the stock free version or should they just be kept in full self-driving yeah so this is this is a question I
00:45:20
would have a very different answer from Tesla uh I think they should be included for free I do too and I think Tesla has
00:45:26
a habit of yeah charging more for extra things so they know that people will buy the car without it for a certain price
00:45:32
so I'm not going to include it for free um so yeah I think I think adding this middle tier makes sense I'm not
00:45:38
surprised that they agreed to charge more for stuff that should be free but yeah that's uh it's it's again it's a
00:45:45
small list of things and maybe you find one or two things there that you really think would help your commute or something like that but I would I would
00:45:52
go all or nothing yeah and I think the reason why they're doing this middle tier and not leaving it as like the free
00:45:58
option because actually I guess I don't even know why they're doing the middle tier four but the foals right now FSD
00:46:05
like what they say they're offering is basically just it says traffic and stoplight control in beta and then the
00:46:11
auto steer on streets is still considered upcoming so like yeah there's not a lot to offer there before the
00:46:16
package kind of included all those other things and bundled with the promise of what's coming it felt better but right
00:46:23
now I think if all of those things were free and the twelve thousand dollars just meant
00:46:29
stop signs and upcoming Auto like streets that feels like a way harder cell
00:46:35
although they're still selling a ton of it which always surprises me for a beta yeah basically Tesla just did the math
00:46:41
and sees that look there is some non-zero number of people who is not buying the full self-driving thing
00:46:47
because they're not getting total self-driving so if we can get more money out of those
00:46:53
people for a couple other features yeah we'll get that money out of those people for a couple features yeah I don't love it I feel like if they offered it for
00:46:59
free they're the cars are pretty expensive already like if they offer those that's just one more thing that's
00:47:06
because we can all agree that there's theirs is some of the best like radar
00:47:12
camera being able to actually do like adaptive cruise control or traffic aware
00:47:17
cruise control and all that stuff they're really really good at it really good and all the other cars are catching up to that leave that as your base model
00:47:23
and I feel like that's just such a better selling point because now the EV Market is coming for you yeah you you're
00:47:31
way far ahead on that front than you are if you work for Tesla then do you bump the price of the car up six thousand
00:47:37
dollars and make it included for every car but you bump it up again since it's a new tier or do you just leave it as an
00:47:43
optional add-on for people if I'm Tesla hell yeah I bump it up and I make that money if I'm me no I feel like you're
00:47:50
already at a price point where you're comparing yourself to other things that are beneficiary to the like Legacy car
00:47:57
manufacturer of like better quality interiors and such differentiate differentiate yourself you're the tech
00:48:02
car you've got all of these really cool closer to self-driving features
00:48:08
definitely not autopilot because we all agree that's a terrible name yeah I
00:48:13
didn't I see where Quinn's coming from I Love Quinn so much yeah I see where he's coming I appreciate the tweets Queen
00:48:19
yeah all right well I think it's about time to figure out what the trivia answers were I don't know the second one
00:48:27
I'm just gonna say that right now okay but let's see let's let's maybe a chance first one I think I know all right so
00:48:32
the score right now Marquez 13 Andrew seven first question which of the
00:48:39
following desserts was not the name of a version of Android nougat Gumdrop or
00:48:44
honeycomb I'm gonna answer first because I know
00:48:50
Marquez knows this yeah I'm trying to think think it's Gumdrop yeah I'm trying to think what G was now
00:48:56
um so B cupcake donut eclair Froyo
00:49:02
gingerbread honeycomb Ice Cream Sandwich Ice Cream Sandwich Jelly Bean Kit Kat
00:49:13
now Android L then it was just l
00:49:19
it wasn't lollipop oh it was lollipop yeah lollipop um
00:49:26
Gumdrop would be him great one though yeah it was gingerbread anyway yeah what'd you say for G gingerbread
00:49:34
gingerbread oh yeah then you that confirms it yeah yeah it was gum drop yeah cool we got that correct we went
00:49:40
way further than we needed to I just felt like flexing a little Flex I don't know why I could also say pi to 12 digit
00:49:46
3.14 well it's having to flex again who founded YouTube I really don't know okay
00:49:52
I feel like I remember someone here recently saying and there's gonna be really embarrassing if I'm wrong but I
00:49:58
remember them saying that Susan created YouTube in her garage just like a bunch of the other garage stories out there so
00:50:06
so I think maybe she might be one of the three but that's like such an obvious guess because she's currently she's the
00:50:12
CEO and the story that I think I'm remembering is that she was working for Google and they asked to use her garage
00:50:17
to start YouTube and then they did and then she eventually she I don't know how
00:50:23
quickly but she became the CEO shortly thereafter so if that counselor helping to found it
00:50:29
I think I would just put her as the only one that I know is involved at the beginning it is it just other Google names is it
00:50:36
Sergey Brin and Larry Page I don't know nope who is it giving up yeah Chad
00:50:42
Hurley oh yeah I knew that I knew that Steve Chen
00:50:48
and jawed Kareem so Jawad is the one who uploaded the first video with him at the
00:50:53
zoo yeah I didn't know he was a Founder to be honest actually I feel like I have
00:50:59
heard that because he made oh man I don't know what the event happened was but he changed his uh
00:51:07
he changed the description of the video so it's called me at the zoo yeah and he sometimes uses the description to make
00:51:13
statements and I remember a article coming out that was like founder of YouTube make statement through this okay
00:51:20
I don't even think he's involved in YouTube anymore I just know he's a Founder so if he thinks something is different about YouTube then if you get
00:51:25
a headline yes I forgot he was the he was the founder okay that's cool I did know Chad Hurley I want to say he
00:51:31
follows me on Twitter actually yeah the only one I didn't know like for sure was Steve Chen same same but yeah well shout
00:51:38
out to them sorry Susan I thought you were one of the founders I was wrong but I think it was in your garage wait so
00:51:44
Susan got to become CEO because yo I thought that I got a garage if anything I don't know if that's a because but it
00:51:51
is I'm sure she's very qualified there's actually reasons why but I mean like if any big tech companies want to use your
00:51:57
garage I got you have you seen the garages out there mine's probably bigger than those though
00:52:02
it's like it's not very big but I bet it's bigger than some of those ones a lot of those are like a very small house and then the garage is most of the
00:52:08
square footage yeah it's literally an office it's crazy yeah anyway okay so I got we both got one and both missed the
00:52:15
other yep so final score Marquez 14 Andrew 10. not bad are we resetting this
00:52:20
are we just gonna keep going I was saying that we should have said this is reset it for July and like have this be
00:52:25
like a final trivia Showdown when did we start this this is like yeah that's a lot of points do you know what next week
00:52:31
