00:00:05
welcome to another episode of the waveform podcast we're your hosts i'm marquez and i'm andrew and today we are
00:00:10
looking forward we're looking at the future so you might remember last week we went through all the fun stuff that
00:00:17
sort of highlighted our 2021 and this is the last episode of the 2021 calendar year which is very exciting but maybe a
00:00:24
little bittersweet yeah i also just want to say you know we're we're releasing a podcast here on christmas eve and new
00:00:29
year's eve so don't say we've never done anything for you we've we've been working that's dedication yeah come on for sure so so we're coming back at you
00:00:36
next year in 2022 but of course before we jump into the new year we want to look forward at the stuff that we're
00:00:42
expecting hoping for maybe maybe rooting for a little bit and uh we're going to
00:00:47
go through the entire mkbhd team here at waveform the studio everything and we're
00:00:52
going to look forward to those things to get us into a positive mood for 2022 yeah and make some predictions too which
00:00:58
maybe we should then next year come back on this episode oh i love that make those predictions and then make future
00:01:04
predictions as well but i'm telling myself this now but somebody on twitter please remind me december of 2022 we
00:01:10
want to revisit the predictions that we made and see how many of them were right adam's typing don't worry writing that down okay good we got it but don't let
00:01:17
me forget somebody on twitter will definitely remember um so without any further ado let's go ahead and get
00:01:22
started same order as last week adam let's talk about the future adam do you have a favorite
00:01:28
or let's let's phrase it this way a prediction for tech in 2022 or something you're hoping will happen in tech in
00:01:35
2022. something i'm hoping for would probably be the op2 from teenage
00:01:42
engineering i don't know what that is you gotta explain that one so they have a synthesizer the op1 that's like a
00:01:47
little keyboard that you can make notes with everything like that they bought they didn't buy they released another one the opz which is the one that we
00:01:54
bought they have we have the opz which is what i use to make like the ad music that you guys hear and stuff like that the op2 has been rumored for i don't
00:02:00
even know how many years there's not even an announcement yet and it's just like every year i'm
00:02:06
eagerly hoping that this is the year that the op2 comes out for like the past four years like half-life three
00:02:11
basically it's gonna be amazing video game reference did you get that
00:02:16
that's how far half-life three has transcended it's mainstream now yeah yeah yeah no that's i mean i i was gonna
00:02:23
ask what's the difference between like a midi controller that i've seen before and the op2 like what would make the op2
00:02:29
so great the op2 well the op1 was amazing it's already sitting in the moma like design store it's just it needed
00:02:37
like a better headphone jack it wasn't great on the first one it was a little staticky it needs usb-c that would be
00:02:42
nice whatever new things like there's some features in the op-z that are just
00:02:48
new and like updated where the old one didn't have that so if it would just become modern basically because it was
00:02:54
already pretty great and fun to play with but and also i would like the price to go down which is never gonna happen
00:02:59
but it's insanely expensive it's like a 1400 synth for no reason yeah but to get some context since marquez and i
00:03:06
don't know much about this you're saying you're hoping for it to come and you're calling it the op2 is there like
00:03:12
any actual rumor about any specs on this or release date or anything or is this just a we all know they need to make a
00:03:19
second one yeah collectively as fans you're hoping for one more so that it's like a refresher it's like a refresh
00:03:25
like with enough momentum like the tesla model s refresh was kind of like a rumored thing for like three years we're
00:03:31
all like when are they gonna do it because it's old it's aging they gotta do it but like we don't know when it's
00:03:37
not official yet so we're coming around to that time where like all right usbc there's enough there's a long enough
00:03:42
list of things that could happen that would really make a good soldier and i think this past year was like the first
00:03:48
it was a 10-year anniversary of the first one coming out oh it's for a while yeah it's been a while so like any day
00:03:55
now if you had to give a percentage of it coming out in 2022 i guess a guesstimate percentage
00:04:02
probably about as much as cyber truck yeah i was going to say pixel watch but that
00:04:08
works too much like something i've wanted for so many years the pixel watch but every year if
00:04:14
you ask me to give it a realistic percentage yeah probably less than 50 like yeah i want it but i'll give it
00:04:20
like 35 percent so we're good we're really on the like this could be the year tree yeah the
00:04:27
really really hopeful optimistic yeah so it sounds low sounds like a really low chance
00:04:32
i'm crossing my fingers for you thank you appreciate it i need all your prayers
00:04:40
all right we gotta talk future with hiato uh what do you what are you expecting out
00:04:46
of 2022 and maybe what are you hoping for i really want to see more evs come to
00:04:52
market again i i really like um i really like competition and i think
00:04:57
next year is looking really interesting because it's not just like the the big car companies i guess not even big cars
00:05:03
it's not like like c car companies yeah yeah but there there's like startups like canoe that i think is supposed to
00:05:08
be shipping something in 2022 hopefully and i really really like canoes designs
00:05:14
that they've shown us i want to see more from them i want to see more things from rivia and there's there's all kinds of companies but even with the traditional
00:05:21
manufacturers like hyundai has been really killing it with their new ionic series they're supposed to be putting
00:05:26
out i saw two on my drive the other day actually really yeah two ionics wow it was just one i don't know it's so easy to tell an
00:05:33
eevee lately because they don't have a grill and you're like yeah oh oh that is i don't know i've seen that yeah and like even those are super compelling so
00:05:39
i i think uh i think the eevee space is gonna be looking really good in the next year um which is great for me because i
00:05:45
think at some point as much as i want to be like a fully car less person uh for as long as i can i'm probably gonna have
00:05:51
to buy a car soon so yeah also like more evs means hopefully
00:05:57
better charging network because we all are very aware and yeah has hours of footage of it that our charging network
00:06:04
could use some work and i like seeing more legacy and more new car manufacturers coming into the ev space
00:06:10
because yeah that should mean all of those should get better
00:06:15
i feel like i have like sort of two versions of uh rooting for evs yeah i have this thing
00:06:21
that i do where i'm like yeah i'm driving around all like c and ev it's like ev spotting yeah oh this is the
00:06:26
third maki today that's crazy or i'll i'll see a rare one like the mini cooper and i'm like oh i haven't seen one of
00:06:32
those in a long time so i'm like just rooting for more variety which is kind of fun but also rooting for a lower
00:06:38
price breakthrough yeah because they're all sort of showing up at like 39 plus yeah which is it makes sense
00:06:44
these are expensive new types of cars that they're building um but we're also rooting for like a
00:06:50
20 to 30 yeah type of car which would be a really big difference versus what we've seen typically with a new ev and
00:06:56
that's the second type i'm rooting for i want to be optimistic for it i don't think we're going to see an amazing bunch of new 20 000 evs anytime soon but
00:07:04
i think as we get more and more we'll see the minimum price go down a little more every time i mean do we are we still expecting like model tesla model
00:07:11
what two so this is this is one of the things yeah model two which would be like two yeah a slightly smaller model
00:07:16
three yeah with slightly less materials and slightly lower price like that's the basic formula for a say 25 thousand
00:07:24
dollar ev yeah that was though a model three cost like 46 yeah right so it has to be so it's got to cut down it's got
00:07:30
to cut yeah that's the question down there or just back to the old model 3 price i mean i think i think that's
00:07:35
where we're going to see brands like like again like hyundai put out like an elantra that's fully electric and and
00:07:41
gets hopefully decent mileage and and it stays under 30k would be great yeah if i had to bet on a cheaper ev hyundai might
00:07:48
be they've been like really if i had to put a bet on a legacy car let's make it a bet let's make it a bit yeah who's going
00:07:55
to let's define this though who's going to make the first sub
00:08:00
thirty thousand dollar ev with over 240 let's say 240. okay miles 240 feels
00:08:08
like my like minimum of being excited so anyway over that it feels like
00:08:14
absolutely so who's going to land there sub 30 sub sorry for so i was listening sub 30
00:08:19
000 starting price yeah and at that price 240 or more miles of range to the
00:08:25
battery who's going to get there i i think my money's on hyundai hyundai i have
00:08:30
if i can't pick hyundai i really really like that choice yeah and this is going to be a weird choice because they don't have an ev out right
00:08:37
now but i'm assuming this is going to be within the next five it's going to take about five years i could see toyota
00:08:43
doing it totally okay because they're not fully eevee yet but they still have done a lot in battery
00:08:48
space a little bit they're pledging a lot of money to it and they just are one of the largest manufacturers in the world yeah right they are if i was a
00:08:55
betting man i would be betting on tesla to get there first because it's really a drive train
00:09:01
question to me who's going to get that 240 mile battery pack drive train down in price first it might not be the best
00:09:07
car at that price but i think they'll get there first also are we counting epa certification or like
00:09:13
real world testing what do we epa i think epa is a solid enough number we know it might be a little it's easier to
00:09:20
test yes right yeah yeah okay but that's i like that yeah we'll see if we got that going we've gotta see everyone in
00:09:25
like seven years finally let's revisit this every year until it exists okay
00:09:31
thanks for joining us again for sure see you next year sounds good
00:09:42
all right all right so david we're talking future we're talking uh we're talking what we're expecting out of 2022 here now we actually briefly mentioned
00:09:49
last week we were talking about like oh what if we do see a bunch more custom silicon in the world of not just smartphones but computers in general but
00:09:57
i don't know if you're looking forward at 2022 what kind of tech are you expecting hoping for i'm expecting the eevee
00:10:04
market to explode even more than it did this year is it still this year uh it is
00:10:09
still okay yeah and when this comes out it still will be too okay if that's what you're wondering yeah um yeah i'm
00:10:16
expected to see like a lot more evs with probably their own stuff uh new
00:10:22
chipsets by individualized manufacturers i think will at least start the process of happening
00:10:28
like tensor started that and like i would love to see what oppa group and xiaomi are gonna do with their own
00:10:33
hardware um it's hard to probably more folding phones like honestly like we've we've
00:10:39
seen a lot of interesting folding phones in 21 and i know that there were some that
00:10:44
even got cancelled just because i couldn't get the price point low enough right so
00:10:50
that was that was the tcl folding rolling one no no
00:10:56
do you think we'll see that in 2022 the rolling phone the folding end rolling is now like multiple different i think
00:11:01
there's a couple tcl was the first they did rolling and then or even just rolling in general i think
00:11:07
we'll see more because the tech between ultra thin glass and that kind of stuff is just gonna get cheaper and cheaper
00:11:13
and eventually other manufacturers are going to be able to enter the space which is good because samsung has like a four yearly now yeah so there's there's
00:11:20
folding pixel rumors there's like folding yeah it's just folding iphone 7
00:11:25
i think it's gonna be three years before we see a folding iphone or a folding pixel to be honest i agree with every single folding pixel
00:11:31
rumor that i saw this year i was like it's not happening any time it's coming out with the pixel ultron
00:11:37
right around the corner three years ago right on the ev topic would you like to join a bet that we
00:11:42
made in a previous segment oh boy so we had i think hayato has a guest you
00:11:47
have a guest i have a guest yeah he mentioned evs and we're we're trying to think who will be the first company
00:11:53
to come out with a sub 30 000 ev with greater than 240 miles of range
00:12:00
sub 30 sub 30 who do you think it will be do you want to know who we guessed or who our bets are on before you place
00:12:05
your bet sure so i bet on tesla i bet on toyota and high auto bet on
00:12:12
hyundai i was gonna guess hyundai i think hyundai is a really good choice actually i went to after just not wanting to be
00:12:18
the same guest as seattle but i really like i was actually gonna guess hyundai too because they their cars are already
00:12:25
this year starting to look really futuristic-esque and they're really good at making cheap cars so
00:12:32
also real quick adam you didn't get to join in on this do you want to quickly throw a guess out okay
00:12:38
[Music]
00:12:44
well we never have punishments yeah we should we have a honeymoon going on over on the f-150 f-150 oh boy
00:12:52
oh boy no i think i think we'll expect a bunch of new eevee stuff and obviously we'll be covering it too we have autofocus we have the videos we're
00:12:58
planning on making more eevee stuff in general god i wish i could show you guys the package we got today because it's it's i'll just leave it at that we have
00:13:05
a lot more car focused stuff in the works it's great next year is going to be great stay tuned for it um but yeah i think i
00:13:12
think the world of like custom silicon is going to be really interesting the world of also
00:13:17
low-key maybe i'm just tossing this at you but mirrorless cameras like i feel like we
00:13:22
kind of got a little bump up in the last year of like a lot of really good interesting mirrorless cameras i do
00:13:28
think that yeah i think that mirrorless cameras have sort of like almost saturated their potential specs
00:13:34
without computational photography features so i could see 2022 being a year where
00:13:40
finally phone computational photography features start getting added to mirrorless cameras i would like that a
00:13:45
lot yeah because i think they have a longer like development cycle anyway yeah so maybe if they started it a
00:13:51
couple years ago they could already be in the works yeah and i also want to say i really hope that 2022 is as exciting as 2021 was for
00:13:59
tech because i honestly think this year was like there's so much this year
00:14:05
whether it was from like m1 pro m1 max stuff or like you know just somewhat so
00:14:10
many new product categories it felt like yeah sometimes i look back like obviously it's december so we'll look
00:14:15
back at the year we just had and i i remember like oh that was this year yeah oh that was also this year and we just
00:14:21
had so much we just looked at at the youtube sort of stat re watch of like youtube just
00:14:27
emailed me a bunch of stats from the past year and i said january was our most viewed month of the year i was like
00:14:32
what do you mean january end of last year have you ever heard of october before they're all a thing and then i look back
00:14:39
and it was like we had s21 ultra we had well the whole s21 line yeah um but just
00:14:44
a bunch of stuff all sort of launched and ces it was just kind of a a bunch of a wave of stuff all happened
00:14:50
in january so yeah it was a good year yeah it was a great year yeah and for my
00:14:55
life personally i'm happy now just wanted you to know that oh that's a good time thank you stars on apple pie that was such a good
00:15:01
way happy that's a great way to perfect one star equals one more happiness for me
00:15:08
wait but don't rate it one star no i mean
00:15:14
okay you know happiness you better not tank our rating steve i appreciate you thank you so much for
00:15:20
joining us um we'll see you next year oh wow i keep doing
00:15:31
feels weird oh my god yeah we we're we're talking future now
00:15:38
this is um this is just a 2022 now we're talking about so
00:15:43
you've had a you mentioned in the last one you you saw rivian as like a really interesting polarizing thing in the tech world that caught your eye that was
00:15:49
pretty cool and i think you you mentioned astro bot which was which was pretty sick i'm glad i got its mention
00:15:55
now we're looking forward what are you looking forward to or maybe hoping for or predicting
00:16:00
in the tech world somewhere in 2022 another obvious answer is like imac pro
00:16:06
is probably going to come out with m1 chips 27 27 inch imac pros like there's the 27
00:16:14
or 24 inch imacs but i think imac pro will come out next year in 27 inch little
00:16:20
black bezels like professionals can get their own imacs again um no there's a
00:16:25
lot of actually the rumors have been starting to to wind up a little bit about imac pro like we're we know it's
00:16:31
imac pro so so it might be like so we have m1 we have m1 pro and m1 max
00:16:37
this will be a larger desktop form factor and so it would essentially be an even more scaled up version kind of like
00:16:43
two m1 maxes with each like it would be that many cores and that many gpu cores but it
00:16:49
would probably have a new name and so it would have obviously immense power we're hoping it'll look
00:16:55
something like a pro display xdr because if it's a pro thing it would be a little more boxy
00:17:01
black front bezels probably a webcam built in this would be like the dream machine that i'm describing i don't know
00:17:07
exactly what it'll look like but i do think that's slotted for 2022. i think we can expect that yeah i feel like i
00:17:13
feel like on the range of products for professionals right now you have like the mac pro which is like
00:17:21
kind of more powerful than you need to be as far as like where the pricing is at and then you have like the imacs
00:17:26
the new macbook pros are in there too but i feel like you don't have like a mid-tier imac pro like there's something
00:17:33
that needs to fall in there for professionals it's like a desktop computer so like pushing macbooks pros
00:17:39
aside like desktop there needs to be another in between between imac and mac pro
00:17:45
i think no i think so too and i think that's probably also where the price is going to be like we so we see like the six to twelve thousand dollar mac pro
00:17:51
setups and we see like the 1500 mac pro there's a clear like macbook pro priced
00:17:57
desktop that can live somewhere in there probably like three thousand dollar-ish range
00:18:03
um that professionals are very willing to pay because of how much work they do on it and how much money they make from their machines so i think that's that's
00:18:09
gonna be a good one uh that kind of ties to something i'm looking forward to too but i'll mention that later
00:18:15
us i'll say from my prediction i feel like i feel like david kind of stole my
00:18:20
answer of uh i feel like evs are gonna be insane like we've been talking about like the
00:18:26
maki just going off with seeing it all around town there's taxis
00:18:32
now um but you got like the rivian i feel like electrify america is going to have to
00:18:38
step up their game next year um just with this many evs getting purchased like they're just gonna have
00:18:44
to make a better network to catch up uh yeah that's all i got they've made
00:18:51
they've made some really interesting steps since even since our video like i think i
00:18:57
remember them obviously wanting to know more about the uptime of their chargers
00:19:03
without officially supporting it through their tech so they'll have like people going to each charger one by one and
00:19:08
reporting the up time whether it's still working or not something we have to keep an eye on because they want to make their stuff
00:19:14
better i'm sure that's not just a money question like they have to spend the money but they have to have the right ideas to make their network more usable for
00:19:21
road trips which is obviously a bigger question and probably easier said than done so that's something i'm going to
00:19:27
keep my eye on too and maybe we'll do uh who knows part two part two gasolina versus electric are
00:19:33
you down truck i'm always down especially when you got that pod
00:19:38
podcast uh quizzes or whatever it is yep quiz weekly all right yeah we'll just start through
00:19:44
yeah we'll do maybe we'll do like a truck we'll go pick them up after the holidays and
00:19:50
we'll do like uh like a rivian versus i don't know cyber truck versus
00:19:56
f-150 lightning i don't know we'll figure it out but yeah that's for sure in the cards thanks for joining us tim that is uh
00:20:03
that's a look into our future yeah thanks
00:20:08
so we're talking uh we're talking future for 2022 so last week we talked about we did we did uh some of the most difficult
00:20:14
motion graphics projects and some of the things that we were talking about from the past year what are you looking forward to for this year for 2022 any
00:20:21
tech you're looking forward to any any things you're predicting maybe might happen or show up
00:20:27
i think for me it's not so much a prediction but i'm just curious like
00:20:32
i'm just curious to see where desktops go in the future i don't know if it's 2022 or beyond but
00:20:39
with we were talking in the last episode a lot about um the new macbook pro and just how much power you can put in
00:20:46
your backpack basically to carry around um like i know the desktops will always
00:20:53
need to exist for a certain like percentage of professionals but like
00:20:58
if i don't feel like i need a desktop then probably a lot of other professionals in my field or in our
00:21:03
field or similar fields might also not feel like they need a desktop so at what point
00:21:09
you know will a photographer need a desktop anymore will like uh you know i don't know it's just interesting to see
00:21:15
like it maybe some people will still prefer to have that level of like power
00:21:20
and stability and um all of that but i don't know i just i'd be curious to see like i know it's been
00:21:27
a slow decline i mean like when we're all kids it was like you had your desktop computer in your
00:21:32
house and that was the thing but and like even like high school and
00:21:37
stuff like that you were you had a school computer and a home computer and like obviously that transition has
00:21:42
happened slowly over time but i feel like it's happening faster and faster i think that's an interesting way to
00:21:47
frame it i feel like we've always needed desktops for a couple specific reasons
00:21:55
one of them being computing power you just if you need over a certain level of wattage or a certain amount of power you
00:22:02
had to have a desktop and that's been actually my biggest tether to a desktop is i need a certain amount of power
00:22:08
and then usually the other is like the size of your screen or the amount of ports you know just physical constraints of like the size of a laptop
00:22:15
and i wonder how many people today use a desktop because of those constraints
00:22:21
versus preference like if you could give those same people a macbook pro with all the power in the
00:22:28
world and a monitor would they use that and accomplish exactly the same stuff or
00:22:33
are there still a huge percentage of people who require a desktop for the power it gets um i
00:22:40
don't know what that landscape looks like i could probably talk to people like linus and get a better idea
00:22:45
if you put gamers into this it's a whole different story yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
00:22:51
looking at desktops exactly but also gamers aren't going to the cafe to games so like they don't need that portability
00:22:56
anyway exactly right so yeah that's a that's an interesting way you know we talked about uh imac pro briefly i think
00:23:02
also with tim where we're like okay we know it's probably coming out in the next year or so
00:23:07
and i'm gonna talk about my own mac pro apple silicon expectations but i think
00:23:12
uh i think i'm always gonna be a desktop person just because i prefer to have the most possible power and there is still a
00:23:19
difference between the most power you can get in the laptop and in a desktop and as long as that difference exists
00:23:25
here i am a desktop guy but yeah i am curious about that i think people will still also want
00:23:31
like it's almost like if you're using your computer for work entirely i feel like there is that separation of of work
00:23:38
and life where you have you have your desk i feel like i've even seen it with like your workflow marquez where you
00:23:43
used to have desktop at your desk if you're not in the studio you can't help you can't do anything but now you have
00:23:49
your laptop and you're home and it's 9 p.m on a thursday and you're like oh i forgot to render that thing out or
00:23:55
michael needs this clip um you can technically do it versus before you couldn't so that's going to
00:24:01
be an interesting distinction as well of like will people still say i prefer desktop because that's just one level of
00:24:07
like separation too i don't know yeah no it definitely does represent that for me like i would always have a place that i
00:24:14
go to get that sort of work done and so that work is always tied to that place because the desktop doesn't move
00:24:20
yeah yeah oh it'll be interesting to follow especially with all the silicon getting better and the gpus getting better
00:24:26
we'll uh we'll maybe see some some shifts in that world and maybe gamers will start gaming on laptops way more i mean i think it will
00:24:33
happen eventually the one thing that not to rant too long on this but i always think about how like
00:24:39
gamers still haven't really like brought like gone down to even like smaller towers anymore you still see so many
00:24:45
with like i mean i have a smaller like compact sized tower but it still is like people with a ton of money will still
00:24:51
buy these full-blown tower pcs to just get literally every ounce of power out of it possible and i don't see that
00:24:58
going away anytime soon a lot of that is just a physics question too it's like the more airflow you want the bigger
00:25:04
space you have to have the more thermal envelope you want the more space you have to have and like
00:25:10
yeah obviously the more wattage you need to push all these are just physics questions so yeah desktops still own
00:25:16
that right now kind of like the difference between smartphones and mirrorless cameras like the power users who use mirrorless cameras
00:25:22
you know we get the software features and the smartphones to sort of add the depth of field and blur in the background but like yeah at a certain
00:25:28
point if you want the the shot you have to have the big camera yeah
00:25:34
for sure word all right well that's our that's our uh future look i think we'll we'll
00:25:39
keep an eye on a lot of this stuff we'll talk more about apple silicon in a in an upcoming session sure
00:25:45
plenty yeah for the rest of our lives it'll keep happening but uh it'll never end
00:25:51
thanks for being the motion graphics wizard appreciate you and now i'll talk to you next year
00:25:56
okay sounds good take it easy michael thanks for coming
00:26:04
all right vin and brandon welcome back we're talking future 2022 now we've already had a bunch of
00:26:11
futures we've had a bunch of uh predictions do you guys in the cinematography world or
00:26:17
maybe just in tech in general have any tech or gadgets or anything really that you're looking forward to or hoping for
00:26:24
in 2022 i want a 27-inch or 32-inch pro display xdr 120
00:26:33
hertz make it happen apple same but put the chip inside so i can do like a like a external gpu kind of thing
00:26:40
that would be sick right so oh interesting because there's a rumor going like an imac that needs it
00:26:46
like like a pro cinema display that has like an external gpu yes so apple has that ability uniquely
00:26:54
to just like tie that in with their hardware they are they have the apple silicon already they already know
00:26:59
what they can do via thunderbolt and if they wanted to build in literally it would kind of act like a
00:27:05
dock it would act like an external gpu inside of the monitor and you would have extra gpu power when
00:27:11
you're plugged into your desktop and then you unplug it and you're on the go with the macbook pro because the m2 chip
00:27:16
is supposed to be like a double m1 max chip right something like that yeah that's the rumor which is already
00:27:23
hilariously powerful and probably pretty sick but the best vinyl cut machine yeah
00:27:28
that would be i i'm super about that also aesthetically are you picturing the same thing as me which is like basically
00:27:33
a black pro display xdr maybe a little thicker maybe a little smaller basically like that yeah yeah
00:27:39
maybe without the thousand dollar stand yeah i think two thousand dollars
00:27:45
the 2 000 is the external gpu enclosure and then it's built into the stand oh my god then
00:27:51
it would actually be worth a thousand dollars we should not give them these types of ideas yeah yeah it's not aesthetically pleasing enough yeah oh
00:27:58
they made it just like the cheese grater like on the back that sounds awesome i'm just gonna tape
00:28:04
a cheese crater to the back of your monitor don't do it my answer actually goes hand in hand with this i'm actually
00:28:10
looking forward to the revival of the imac pro because there's been a lot of rumors
00:28:16
here and the imac pro is a form factor that i really believe in mostly because
00:28:21
i i want a desktop to be a desktop i don't really want to
00:28:26
dock my macbook at home i want to have my computer at home my desktop setup
00:28:32
that i don't have to fuss with i can just leave it have it be powerful
00:28:37
etc i was hoping the 24 inch m1 imac would
00:28:43
suffice it doesn't really like i can make it through a little bit of final cut pro before it
00:28:50
starts to show its limitations listen those colorful imacs are
00:28:56
really really good daily machines yeah but we're not out here throwing redcoat
00:29:02
raw exactly like your daily living room machine actually it was kind of funny being in some of those briefings the way they described how they wanted people to
00:29:08
use them where we're like yeah okay describe why these have white bezels and they're like well so when you move it to
00:29:14
your kitchen it blends in with the tile and we're like i wanna talk about whoa okay so this is this is like yours you
00:29:20
don't want to remove your redcoat edits between you know it's a family computer i probably won't be doing some hardcore
00:29:26
editing but i'm with you i am a desktop as a desktop type person like i need the station yeah and when i'm at the station
00:29:33
i know what i'm doing which is work interesting i imagine that also probably has
00:29:38
high refresh rate i would hope probably has that big chip a little extra ram
00:29:44
and maybe even a s we're talking probably 5k at least maybe 6k display
00:29:50
looking like a pro display hopefully xdr yeah yeah that would be nice i'm looking forward to it i'll talk more about my
00:29:56
desktop predictions a little bit later but i think that's a safe bet for spring
00:30:01
which is going to be exciting that's pretty early i think that's a safe bet i mean apple promised what a two-year
00:30:07
transition right so this is they need to make our own like chip shorter tech there is a chip shortage and i guess
00:30:13
that was predicted before the chip shortage started but seeing how apple's been sort of churning
00:30:18
along with m1 and m1 max now i think they're on their way we'll see yeah i
00:30:24
like it we hope so don't disappoint us marcus soon soon
00:30:32
all right so that's been the team yeah which leaves us with our 2022 predictions or things we're looking
00:30:38
forward to i kind of have a couple maybe i'll just drop them in random or i'd like to hear yourself first i won first last time you
00:30:45
go first okay fair so i've got a couple things one for the channel and for the podcast i
00:30:51
predict and i hope that we do more collaboration yeah i don't think we did
00:30:56
nearly enough collaboration in videos i think we had a lot of fun when we did whether it's visiting mr beast in his
00:31:03
studio or grabbing neil degrasse tyson for 25 minutes to talk about moon rocks like i think every time we're able to
00:31:09
bring in the appropriate talent or creator it is so much fun and it makes the video
00:31:15
way better and i think we'll do that more both on the main channel and on the podcast in 2022. and i think bringing in
00:31:20
people like that that aren't tech specific like it's always fun to collaborate with tech specific but it's really fun when we can find a tech based
00:31:27
video that can bring in a non-tech based youtuber and bring in more context loop it all together yeah yeah for sure so i
00:31:34
that's my uh sort of creative goal slash foresight
00:31:39
and my other tech thing that i'm looking forward to since i know people want to know this
00:31:44
is i think we see the completion of the apple silicon mac
00:31:50
upgrade cycle which means not just an imac pro and spring but hopefully
00:31:55
a mac pro in the fall both next year both i mean i hope both obviously but
00:32:00
i'm thinking you have to pick which one comes first imac pro of course so if only one comes out next week year it's
00:32:06
time next week next year i wish next week yeah okay it would be imac pro but
00:32:11
i have such high hopes for the apple silicon desktop and really
00:32:16
this is part of the challenge which is like okay i've really enjoyed this 16-inch macbook pro this is such a good problem to have i i could just switch
00:32:23
everything over to this machine and plug the laptop into a pro display and that would be my new desktop setup but i know
00:32:31
that i'm going to regret not waiting for the desktop which will have more power more storage more modularity and will
00:32:38
just sit under my desk and do everything i want it to if they continue down the path that they've been going this will be my
00:32:44
favorite tech of 2022. i just have to keep waiting just like i did for the last couple mac pros and uh this this
00:32:52
should be the one so you don't have to wait as long as you did for the last mac pro the last mac pros were a little bit
00:32:58
weirdly over and underwhelming like remember the trashcan mac pro like we waited so long
00:33:03
for a new mac pro and then it was this absurd darth vader looking single fan
00:33:09
like weird this is the craziest weirdest thing and we're just like oh okay this is very different very new let's just jump
00:33:16
right in and it turned out to not be all that but we sort of it had its run in my workflow for a
00:33:22
little while there um now we have this new mac pro which is a tower and that's what we're all really hoping for and it
00:33:28
does a lot and it's very powerful but now apple silicon it's just eating all of the intel lineup
00:33:34
alive and i have no question that the last remaining puzzle piece which is the desktop the xeon chip
00:33:40
the 768 gigs of ram in my computer like let's let's get an apple silicon version
00:33:45
please so ready for that that's awesome yeah that'll be great
00:33:51
more for you you're doing a lot more video editing than i am but um like i always love seeing that i always love
00:33:57
having faster export times it always makes us more efficient gets more videos out so whether you like apple or not if
00:34:03
you like the channel you should be liking m1 stuff because it helps us there's a here's a random out of the
00:34:08
blue prediction there's going to be a new apple monitor with higher refresh rate
00:34:15
with higher refresh rate yeah i still don't know if i'm full well like oh maybe this is just like the
00:34:22
the gamer gatekeeper in me but i like i don't know how much
00:34:27
difference 120 hertz makes on monitors for when people aren't like playing games and doing videos that are do that
00:34:33
are at a frame rate half of what a 60 hertz is it's more of it's a lot of the same stuff i talk about in phones where
00:34:38
like yes when you're in an application but even just like scrolling around the mouse moving around the mouse on the
00:34:44
trackpad doubling the frame rate from 60 makes a big difference in just overall smooth feel when i'm moving around the final
00:34:50
cut timeline of course that matters but when i'm just scrolling in safari when it finally finishes supporting it like
00:34:55
that's huge too so i'm hoping slash expecting we get a new desktop and a new
00:35:01
monitor to go with the desktop so there it is out of nowhere left field all right let's see i have
00:35:07
i have a tech hopeful prediction maybe not so much a prediction but this is just something
00:35:13
that i feel like is overdue we need to dji has been making i'm just going on
00:35:19
drones again because i've been thinking about it since that thing dji clearly makes the best drones out there and they're making a bunch of
00:35:25
really cool things but they've kind after fpv drone like mavic's turned in they used to have all these different
00:35:31
sizes but now they're just fitting such cool things into such a small size the thing
00:35:36
about drones that feel the furthest behind our battery life i we need to start getting some drones
00:35:42
with like 40 minutes of battery life to an hour of battery i would love love love if dji could just
00:35:48
put out a mavic air or mavic 2 or whatever they're called these days and it has 40 minutes of battery life
00:35:54
that would be wild yeah it kind of feels like um kind of how you know the smartphone
00:36:00
usage is built around one day of battery life where it would be nice to have a weaker smartphone battery but we've
00:36:05
built so much of our lives around it lasting one day like you have you've got a charger next to your bed yeah you've
00:36:10
got a charger at your desk at work and it's to the point where like when you buy a drone you get multiple batteries
00:36:16
and a multi-battery charger and you're just expected to just land it and swap it out and take it off again
00:36:23
it would be nice to have like an hour-long pattern i feel like it's easier to say like one day is okay because you have a very specific time
00:36:30
there for it to be not using it and charging 20 minutes it's just brutal yeah they're like they're like 30
00:36:36
to 35 now is where i'm seeing the higher end ones and i'm sure they've seen i've never gotten that so the film ones the
00:36:42
highest end dji film ones which have a bunch of heavy lithium ions no no way
00:36:47
above the mavic but they're like supposed to carry like an uh like a mirrorless camera oh okay they'll be
00:36:52
good for like a half hour of flight which is really good but it's still only half an hour yeah and i'm i know they're i'm
00:36:59
pretty sure the reason is it's just like at a certain point weight when it comes to flying is is
00:37:04
super important and that's just that we don't have the advancements in technology for batteries to change that yet but uh
00:37:11
figure it out battery density yeah you know it's just like do it come on density battery density applies to more
00:37:18
than just drones if they can solve that for drones they also just solved electric cars
00:37:24
yeah 500 miles of range is a battery density question at this point lucid air new drone we're all on it yeah
00:37:29
everyone's in this together um all right prediction for i'm gonna do a prediction for the channel
00:37:34
and this is in 2022 i am going to get marquez to
00:37:40
play some sort of games on a live stream whether it is a studio channel and we're doing like mario party whether i can
00:37:46
just convince there's no way i'll get him to play valor but if i can convince him to play some new shooter there will be some sort of fun
00:37:52
game and enough of us here at the office now that i will get marquez to play a game on a live stream somewhere does
00:37:59
among us count i mean among us is a little old now come on what is this 2021 does it not count
00:38:04
it's a game counts yeah oh you're saying you played it already no i will play that okay i already will play it but
00:38:10
there will be we all know in 22 there will be that among us fall guys like super hype game that's super simple and
00:38:16
fun and we'll end we need to set up some sort of a live stream and have like a fun studio channel game night all right
00:38:22
we'll have a we'll have a andrew teaches marquez insert gaming here i would love that as well
00:38:29
when that game comes out andrew teaches marquez insert game here there was once where i thought one morning i
00:38:35
taught you pub g for like an hour and that was super fun and then i got into a battle royale where i guess you kind of
00:38:41
get seated among people of equal ability but i was a very low ability and so i just got really really bad bots and i
00:38:47
felt really good about getting to like top 30. that's awesome but it was just that's really fun because it
00:38:52
was fun at every level that's the best part it was fun it was definitely fun all right i like that i like that
00:38:57
prediction cool i think we can i think we can actually say it this time i think we can actually do this you say
00:39:03
it you want me to say it don't put it out on me i'll say it see you next year
