00:00:00
and now they want to do it on human people yeah if you're dumb enough to be first in line for neur link good
00:00:06
luck good luck remember when Elon threw the ball at the Cyber yeah imagine it's
00:00:13
your bra that's you first in [Laughter]
00:00:20
line that's the worst that might be the intro that might
00:00:26
be the intro right there also Elon never threw it oh yeah he was just standing after after
00:00:32
FR it he was just like holy that was the line that he said it wasn't the line that threw it no he's standing next to
00:00:38
it he was right there either way he metaphorically threw the ball at the Cyber
00:00:48
trck what is up people of the internet welcome back to another episode of the waveform podcast we're your hosts I'm
00:00:55
arquez I'm Andrew and I'm David this week we've got a bunch of random I say that every week but a bunch of random
00:01:01
stuff big events it's a little focused yeah I mean it's still tember so we had some events this week we also want to
00:01:06
talk about some iPhone stuff cuz there's more the review May should be out by the time you see this or iPhone 15 Pro
00:01:12
review is out um but it's had some weird bugs and issues we got to talk about we also have Google face swapping in photos
00:01:18
potentially as a rumor and then we're going to go over Microsoft and meta's events but first Google's try not to
00:01:25
kill a new service challenge impossible mode they killed another thing they killed Google podcast one month give us
00:01:32
one month where they don't kill something yeah yeah so uh Google podcasts was uh terminated not passed
00:01:40
away 2024 it's going to pass away you have the rest of the year okay so if you listen to podcasts which if you're here
00:01:47
you know I'm making an assumption but I feel like you may listen to podcasts uh take a look at the player that you're
00:01:54
using Google has an app called Google podcast there's also pocketcast Apple podcast Spotify blah blah blah uh
00:02:00
Google's decided it's not worth keeping Google podcast around they're going to kill it who knows what their criteria is
00:02:06
Google seems to kill a lot of things probably start moving out of Google podcast if you use it the thing is this
00:02:12
one makes a little bit of sense makes the most sense because of how much they're trying to integrate podcasts
00:02:18
into YouTube music yeah so what do they do officially they just putting podcast in YouTube music that's that's what
00:02:24
they're doing yeah they're just integrating it in cuz the ab eventually the end goal is to be able to be
00:02:29
listening and then switch to video and that's is that that what they're doing now right yeah so right now in YouTube
00:02:35
music if you go to a YouTube podcast it'll play like we're there now yeah and then you can toggle between audio
00:02:41
version and video version at the same point yeah my question is what happens to people that don't have a video
00:02:47
version of their podcast like you can't subscribe to RSS feed yet so I'm assuming at some point in the future in
00:02:53
YouTube music you'll be able to subscribe to RSS that'll probably happen before the end of the year but then what about their they don't have a video
00:02:59
portion they'll make like a moving wave for I mean it's YouTube music just like
00:03:05
audio player right it's what they're trying to make to like be competitive with Spotify and be able to like listen
00:03:11
to music so obviously podcasts audio only as well I think it's just like trying to make it all together and that
00:03:17
is a benefit that it can connect to YouTube it's disappointing to me because I really like dedicated apps like I
00:03:23
don't use Spotify for podcasts because I don't I really don't like when I just it starts recommending random episod of
00:03:30
shows intertwined with my music yeah someone who twe I think David Pierce might have put this on threads the other
00:03:35
day he said he doesn't use Spotify podcast because the other day he was listening to his like new For You music
00:03:42
playlist and it was playing some jams and he was enjoying it and then it started playing like chapter 2 of an
00:03:48
audio book he had never listened to that should be completely Rand like I know
00:03:54
Spotify wants to be like the audio app but she that can't happen that's got to be treated I just want a separate tab
00:04:01
for those things I like things being separate so that's why I really enjoy Pocket Cast because you can you can really like tailor the ux UI to like the
00:04:08
specific thing you're doing yeah um makes sense cuz Google kills a lot of stuff but um I think the thing that
00:04:14
makes it sad is that it didn't come out that long ago it was like only a couple of years ago I did I briefly used it
00:04:20
because I don't I not subscribe to that many podcasts so it's really easy for me to migrate I have like less than a dozen podcasts I subscribe to so I'm using
00:04:28
pocket casts now but I have used Spotify for them and I got annoyed by like popping up episodes within playlist so I
00:04:35
stopped and I went back and I've used Google podcast but this is just like one less option now yeah oh well that's how
00:04:42
it goes sorry if you only listen to Three bands ever you never have to listen to the for you stuff and then it'll never happen true Case Closed
00:04:50
expand your horizon are you saying that's what you do yes exactly those Horizons I not a band too everyone is
00:04:56
just making moves to become the like all-in-one audio app basically I don't know I I feel like in America people
00:05:01
don't really like having allinone apps maybe that's just me we see they're forcing it a different app we have apps
00:05:08
with like overlapping functionalities like remember when what's it called Clubhouse remember when Clubhouse was
00:05:14
like popping off yeah and then there were suddenly nine clubhouses everywhere and real people would use more than one
00:05:21
of these don't ask me how I know I just know I mean that's basically X and threads you have to post the same
00:05:27
content to the to I don't want to it's annoying but it feels like you
00:05:34
have to it's strange another podcast news Spotify is partnering with open AI
00:05:40
to be able to take a podcaster voice and turn episodes into different languages
00:05:46
which I thought was pretty cool that's pretty dope that works that's dope what see see um you can see how much Spanish
00:05:53
I know just see I I think this is like a cool example of AI um I know we talk a
00:06:00
lot about like some things that are more scary and some things that are really useful and this being able to like broaden the Horizon of shows reaching
00:06:06
broader audiences um I think is really neat uh they're doing it with a couple test podcasts right now we are not one
00:06:13
of them Spotify come on you know you love us um but right now they're doing
00:06:18
it into Spanish and then there will be German and French pretty soon so that's interesting we uh you have you guys seen
00:06:25
the audio dubs for YouTube channels if you do multilanguage s so there there are a cple YouTu
00:06:31
channels ours is one of them where we have a feature within YouTube thats us upload a separate audio track for a
00:06:38
different language so what happens is you can get a voice actor or yourself even to dub over the video in a
00:06:45
different language so that people who speak a different language don't have to rely on subtitles and that's a pretty laborous
00:06:51
thing to do for a Creator so one of the newest most interesting tools that started to pop up is AI generated dubs
00:06:58
so you leave your audio AIO track as is and whatever your language is but then the AI will create 10 20 different
00:07:05
languages of audio tracks for people to hear your video in their native language seems pretty awesome if it works well
00:07:13
but there are a lot of questions about if it doesn't work well like what things go wrong what little words and
00:07:19
enunciations don't really work another one for us was like when we do shorts we're like cramming it into 60 seconds
00:07:24
and for a lot of languages it's like impossible to say that much stuff in 60 Seconds so there's a lot of questions
00:07:30
around it but it is pretty interesting I'm also interested in podcasting when you have three to four people talking at
00:07:36
the same time yeah like look at us and that's fun sometimes I know some people like say quit talking over each other
00:07:42
but we're having a good time here and we're all joking around I would love to see a translator try to figure out
00:07:47
voices and then be able to dub all of them yeah yeah it's hard too because David and Marquez sound the same
00:07:53
apparently yeah it's just the same person it's actually a twers podcast and Mar David just talks a lot in it yes yes
00:08:01
no it's it's um who said I did that on purpose I was
00:08:08
like it's it's cool to see like I know I want it to work well but that's it seems like podcast is a perfect place to start
00:08:14
because it's just like it's mostly just voices with ours we have to upload the music in the background and the sound
00:08:19
effects as a separate track yeah so that you can have just the voice and then the sound effects still say the same which is like okay now I have to export like
00:08:25
five files per video but you know it works so that's cool yeah I like it there's a lot of strange stuff
00:08:32
going on with this I mean imagine with multiple movies that are like made overseas and then get shipped to United
00:08:38
States or vice versa they always have to hire different voice actors to yeah host
00:08:43
the different or be the different characters and a lot of the times you have two options you can either like re
00:08:49
like if it's a animated movie you can reanimate it to make it more natural with the voice or you can you know uh
00:08:57
just let it dub over and it just seems not natural and I think people have become really used to that um but my
00:09:03
main question is like a lot of different languages have a lot of different parts that they enunciate and kind of like
00:09:09
talk louder or the Dynamics of like different languages are crazy variable
00:09:14
yeah and I just don't know if that's going to be like a direct translation or how that enunciation and that kind of
00:09:20
stuff is going to move over yeah and I think it's going to listen to it and even when we're enunciating something that yet wouldn't be enunciated is it
00:09:26
going to still bring that those levels up right there's even some like YouTube channels of it's like an English to
00:09:33
English dub where it's like one singer singing a song from a different artist
00:09:38
and in that you'll listen to it and there'll be times where you can tell the AI doesn't quite get it right and you'll hear the background of like the other
00:09:44
person singing so I'm just wondering if this goes in here and it's Spanish and then it's just a word it just gives up
00:09:50
on and there's just like English word that makes no sense in the middle of it I trying to remember this example I
00:09:55
think it was on colins smir podcast they they tried some dubbing and they realize they start a lot of sentences with
00:10:01
either like some word that has a literal translation in other languag but you normally wouldn't start a sentence like
00:10:07
when you say bro and like start a sentence like that it would say oh it's man so if you start a sentence like man
00:10:15
this thing is really cool oh it will start the sentence saying om but like that's not how you would normally start
00:10:21
a sentence so you have to actually think about those things in the dub yeah and I imagine because this is like building an
00:10:28
AI model based on your voice it's going to like it will probably get the enunciations correctly for that language
00:10:35
to make the sentences sound normal but it's not exactly how you spoke it in the episode yeah so this type of thing would
00:10:42
probably work well for like audio books where you're just reading a transcript but thing that's something that's really
00:10:48
free flowing where you want to like your personality is semi-defined by the way that you sort of like push words out
00:10:55
yeah so I don't know I mean it's interesting if nothing yeah I think audiobooks is another place
00:11:01
that could be cool I'm listening to an audio book right now and it says it's narrated by a person but I'm listening
00:11:06
to it and it doesn't SS like it some professional audiobook narrators though
00:11:12
are just extremely like precise about words so they which makes sense cuz it's
00:11:18
like an accessibility you want to be easy yeah but this one he's he's had a couple moments where he like he said
00:11:24
something that was supposed to be an exclamation but it was way too monotonous and I was like this can't be person maybe he's like man got to get
00:11:30
through chapter 35 yeah it's a lot okay well let's talk
00:11:36
about the iPhone for a little bit there's some new stuff I mean every week there's something new with the iPhone yes and uh what you might have forgotten
00:11:43
is every year there's some gate with the iPhone drama I feel like this one
00:11:49
happens every year though it has to be yeah last year there was more wasn't it build quality stuff I
00:11:56
don't even remember but it shows you how important build quity okay so the one that's sort of at the top of mine for most people right now is
00:12:02
overheating I've seen like five posts in a row about this today yeah so so and a lot of them are like sarcastic and a lot
00:12:08
of them are actually people with issues so just to just to get it out in front the issue that a lot of people seem to
00:12:14
be well a lot of people that some amount of people seem to be having is the iPhone 15s and 15 Pros are overheating
00:12:21
and it's been attributed to a couple possible things maybe it's software bugs maybe it's the a77 pro or just the new
00:12:28
phone in general um either way lots of people having overheating issues with
00:12:34
their phones and going to Twitter sorry X to talk about them this is one of the
00:12:39
reasons actually that my iPhone review was I would say a little bit late it's because the last thing I've been testing
00:12:46
after all the other new stuff with the phones and all the camera stuff and all the screen stuff and all the other stuff we've tested is the battery life and you
00:12:53
and I you've had the pro Max yeah I've had the 15 Pro spent the most time with it trying to compare the old phone and
00:13:00
I'm just not getting a good read on if it's any better or any worse at all yeah but the way I've described it is with
00:13:06
any phone I typically have a bunch of average days and then a couple light days that are really good and a couple
00:13:13
heavy days that are really bad and that'll let me get my I'm not doing like benchmarks and like laying them out and
00:13:20
side by side stuff I'm just I'm going by feel and with this phone I've had a
00:13:25
plenty of those average days but I have haven't had any really good days I haven't had any sort of light days where
00:13:32
I get 8 hours of screen on a time and I'm like man this thing's got great standby time I haven't had that day yet where I normally would have had it by
00:13:37
now yeah and I have had some weird instances of the phone getting hot in my hands in the middle of something random
00:13:43
there's no Rhyme or Reason for it for like five minutes or 10 minutes at a time I was just this the last anecdote I
00:13:50
was just at a a golf event in Florida it was like 90 something degrees the real feel was like 105 I was outside full
00:13:58
brightness GPS on for the golf thing like lots going on phone did not overheat no problem but then on the
00:14:05
airplane on the way home phone is in airplane mode I'm playing Spotify and it's getting hot in my hands
00:14:12
and drops like 4% in 5 minutes wow in like 5 minutes and then it was fine and it went back to normal and I was like
00:14:17
what what is actually happening to this phone so it's going in the review I have to mention it I don't know what's
00:14:24
causing these issues the best guess I have is it's some type of software bug
00:14:30
whether it's iOS 17 or some apps or some combination of things that all of these people have in common but that's been my
00:14:37
findings I'm curious if you have any heat issues with the phone you've been testing um I haven't noticed a lot of
00:14:43
heat issues that I didn't also have with the 14 pro okay that's sort of what I have you know it gets hot sometimes um
00:14:49
fairly randomly like especially for so I've noticed if I charge it on a wireless charger even for just 2 minutes
00:14:56
It'll heat up a lot um which that's kind of kind of natural but it heats up like a decent amount I wouldn't say it's like
00:15:02
significantly more than the the 14 pro I mean we've been talking about how our battery life has been like either super
00:15:09
average or kind of below average in General on the max I've gotten less than I got on the 14 pro Max and especially
00:15:16
the 13 Pro Max um because I'm getting like 24 hours instead of like 3 days I
00:15:21
did have on like Saturday I I noticed that I had a really good day where it was like 73% back battery by the end of
00:15:29
the day but it was like 2 hours of screen on time so I wasn't really using my phone that much but that's a good day cuz if you like extrapolate it out 2
00:15:35
hours at 73% is like8 hours that's pretty great yeah pretty good so I like to see those days yeah that's that's
00:15:41
interesting yeah I don't know why it randomly decides to like just turn the CPU on full load crank through what am I
00:15:49
at right now 68 that's reasonable this is I really wonder if like the new GPU
00:15:56
cores and the new um like AI Cor and ml cores or whatever if those are like spinning up in instances where they
00:16:02
don't need to or so I my thinking behind that is those should all be lower power cores than the main big powerful ones
00:16:10
yeah and if you just go by like people's Benchmark results it seems that these
00:16:16
newest phones have done the best on Benchmark I've seen a couple different Benchmark results where the newest
00:16:21
phones score the highest yeah that's why I think it has to be a software thing there has to be some app or combo of
00:16:27
apps or something in iOS 17 where if you're doing something it just like
00:16:32
flips it to 100 and just has a really bad 5 minutes so I don't know what that is but that's the only thing I can think
00:16:37
of that's weird Andrew you GNA say something all Farooq iono do you know who he is he did a video saying he
00:16:44
thinks and he was doing some testing that Instagram for some reason was doing it and that also it was an iOS 17 thing
00:16:50
because he got his 14 pro to do it as well and he shows an example of just like loading up Instagram putting a like
00:16:58
temperature reader on it and within like 5 minutes it goes up 15 de it goes from
00:17:04
80 to 95 wow um wow I don't know and like at that point he said he was losing about a percent a minute in terms of
00:17:11
battery life that's pretty bad 1% that's every minute ab yeah so he lost like 10%
00:17:17
in the 10 minutes that he's like filming the video it was just interesting I'm sure it sounds like it's more random
00:17:22
than that although the fact that he was able to the funny thing also is he compared it to opening threads first
00:17:28
checking the temperature for a few minutes no change and then opens Instagram so same company software but
00:17:34
both totally different things um I I just I thought that was funny it was an interesting video it seems like he he
00:17:40
thinks it's iOS 17 not necessarily just the new iPhone but okay could be
00:17:46
something to it I don't know yeah I use Instagram I have the app on my phone I've definitely used it in the past couple days but I haven't haven't been
00:17:52
able to Pino I feel like it's one of those things where it's going to be very hard to find the exact thing lock then they'll like fix it without saying there
00:17:58
was ever a problem and then we'll all forget about it and we'll ever know yeah this is what I'm guessing is going to
00:18:04
happen is we're already on 17.0.2 I I think we're going to get some
00:18:09
more software updates I think people are going to push updates to their apps iOS is going to continue to get updated and eventually it's going to even out at
00:18:15
basically the same battery life as last year I think that's what's going to happen yeah um fun yeah pretty what a
00:18:21
boring solution to like exciting gate and everyone wants to be freaking out but like it's probably not going to be
00:18:26
that insane yeah yeah that explain why I'm not getting as good battery life on the max though especially if that's
00:18:31
happening like in my pocket and I'm just not noticing or something cuz sometimes what I did notice is when I did notice the phone was hot is when I reached into
00:18:38
my pocket to grab it and it was already really hot no yeah and I was like so funny to be like not using it and pick
00:18:45
it up and it's like really hot and I had assumed like oh did I like turn on the flashlight by accident it was on for a while or something but it was never on
00:18:51
so as a two phone person I'll I'll like check both pockets and like one phone is cool and the other phone's hot I'm like
00:18:56
what's going on here what's happening the pixel gets formed sometimes too just randomly I know Hot Leg cold leg it's
00:19:03
the way it is in terms of the other thing that kind of obviously J everything's video of him just crushing
00:19:10
the uh the iPhone 15 Pro Max in his hands was really fantastic yeah um are
00:19:16
you guys seeing any durability issues uh no I have a story uh oh I have
00:19:23
a story uh oh I have um my review unit iPhone this happens every year I have
00:19:28
review unit but I also will buy one of them for my own and I was at an ultimate frisbee
00:19:34
tournament didn't this happen last year yeah I was at UL frisbee tournament and I went to sit down to put my cleats on
00:19:40
and it slipped out of my pocket so I'm already sitting down on the ground on the on the concrete but the ground not
00:19:47
in like a chair right yeah yeah I want to sit down on the ground and 2 in out
00:19:53
of my pocket the review it falls out of my pocket and I literally it's one of those drops where like yeah it's fine
00:19:59
and I put it back in my pocket and I looked at it like a minute or two later and it's got a crack across the back I
00:20:04
was like what H how I didn't there's no other opportunity for it to get that crack that's when it happened but that's
00:20:11
the glass and so I don't feel like that's that crazy cuz glass breaks and the titanium is totally fine as I as
00:20:18
expected I've dropped phones on the edges before this is the thing is like when you drop a phone it's really just
00:20:24
luck about what part of the phone lands on the ground wherever all the energy
00:20:29
gets absorbed physically speaking that's what's going to have the biggest chance of breaking uh the next day I go to the
00:20:37
random Mall in Marlboro Massachusetts wherever I was
00:20:42
and I picked up my natural titanium one and that one has not had any problems I haven't dropped it but yeah that's my
00:20:48
story I have actually cracked a phone for the first time in years I feel like the last time a phone slipped out of
00:20:54
your pocket was wasn't it like getting into some low car with with a pixel and it got that pink line across the front
00:21:00
of the screen do you remember that was that mine I think so but that was also with a I believe a pixel that was having
00:21:07
screen issues where like one of the connectors got loose very easily and it's not that it broke the screen it's
00:21:12
that a pink line came up across the display I don't remember that yeah I mean a while ago my theory on why the
00:21:18
like apple went square with the iPhone was because if they lower the amount
00:21:24
they lower the chance that a piece of the glass is going to touch the impact point and it just hits the rim the
00:21:31
chances of it breaking are way lower so remember when the 12 came out and they they called it like what was their
00:21:37
branding for the screen that year ceramic Shield ceramic Shield it's like yeah it's Square so you probably won't
00:21:44
hit the glass anymore it's probably just going to but they had like infused ceramic in the glass or something yeah
00:21:50
something like that but I would bet that's probably true but their like durability testing probably got better
00:21:56
because it just didn't impact the glass as as often right Zack does say that the
00:22:01
he thinks the ceramic shield glass is like doing better for the scratch test he said it looks really good um he also
00:22:08
everyone should watch that video he also cuts it up to see how much of this grade five titanium there is because that
00:22:14
ain't cheap and like that was really interesting yeah but the fact that on the pro Max he could bend it with his
00:22:20
thumbs and just absolutely Splinter the back of the phone was kind of crazy wow
00:22:26
oh the only other thing I want to say here is there's picture going around in terms of this durability gate of like an
00:22:31
iPhone with a cracked back glass and the camera like being completely popped out
00:22:37
oh you showed me this yeah yeah I was like wow that does seem really bad and then I found the testing from it and
00:22:42
it's Sam Cole who does a lot of iPhone stuff and he was doing Drop tests it was the 14th drop he did and it was from the
00:22:50
second story of like a thing of stairs onto concrete so like listen there might be some durability issues with this
00:22:56
whatever but like stop using that picture he dropped it onto concrete there's some crazy memes I mean and Zach
00:23:02
always does the crazy stuff he does with his phones like a blowtorch or whatever and it's like wow I wonder why it broke
00:23:07
it's it did good the lighter didn't affect the front screen at all that wasy I usually light my phone off I'm glad
00:23:14
I'm glad it doesn't affect it yeah it's the least likely thing to happen exactly yeah I'm glad it's I'm glad it's durable
00:23:21
um I'll keep an eye on it if anything else gets scratched or whatever happens you'll be the first to know on X he did
00:23:27
tear it apart with two hands though didn't he didn't he try do the test and it just exploded and it just like the backlash just like shattered both his
00:23:34
thumbs in it I just want to try it you didn't see that no I didn't watch that one wait really I watched the one where
00:23:39
he was like carving up the stainless cuz he had the blue one he made a couple videos I need to show you this reaction
00:23:44
I thought you saw it I wanted to know if there is a light color stainless steel underneath the the blue coated or dark
00:23:50
coated titanium so I I got to the part where he scratches the titanium and it's immediately just bright silver under it
00:23:56
no but that's still the grade five titanium right but it's a cating that he cut through it's a coding he cuts
00:24:02
through which is just color it's just like however you do that that was my concern like if I drop my phone and it's
00:24:08
a dark colored phone it's going to look crazy yeah so that's confirmed from Zach's video I need I need to show you
00:24:15
this clip though okay one eternity later Jesus I mean like huh obviously you're
00:24:22
not really going to be doing that but he mentions right after this like iPhones don't do this in any of my testing every
00:24:27
time I do this and it's only the pro Max so I'm assuming the leverage of it is helping with that he could not do it on
00:24:33
the regular Pro okay so that's really interesting cuz remember remember remember benate and it was just the six
00:24:39
plus cuz that was a thinner longer piece of uninterrupted aluminum and it was easier to bend that's fascinating yeah
00:24:47
another year another gate what can you do leave it to them to find it um okay
00:24:52
last thing I want to talk about is you guys seen this uh it's a it's a pixel 8 feature leak I don't know if you've seen
00:24:58
any of these pixel 8 leaks floating around the internet there's a couple of them goog Google's always surprising they can still leak things when we think
00:25:05
we've seen literally every millimeter of it and now we're getting into software yeah yeah so what do you think of this one the face swap leak is what we're
00:25:12
talking about how would you describe it so yeah so effectively they're like they're showing that you they take a
00:25:17
picture of a family and all the kids are being demons and they just tap on their faces and they become happy and they
00:25:24
like I'm assuming the way they're doing this is when the uh when the camera is open it's
00:25:30
constantly sampling frames so it's just grabbing ones where they're smiling and then when you take the photo if it's not
00:25:36
ideal you can just tap on their faces and merge it in yeah it's like a live photo I'm guessing right and it has the
00:25:42
like previous and prior sort of I doubt it's that because that usually only
00:25:48
takes like eight frames before you hit the shutter button moment of capture and like eight frames after you hit the shutter button I would assume that it's
00:25:55
just looking for faces all the time and if it sees someone smiling it's grabbing one of those and storing memory that's
00:26:02
my guess my gu my other guess was usually in an action photo you're just taking multiple frames so like if you're
00:26:08
doing it then your gallery probably has five or six photos next to each other yeah it's possible too the UI of it was
00:26:15
really neat where it's like they're on a merry gound Carousel and yeah like one
00:26:20
person the kids not looking at the camera and they like click her face and on the bottom this little UI comes up
00:26:26
that shows like four options of that kid's face but then they just click on the option you can see and it just
00:26:31
swipes the kid's face away it's Tim what is a photo energy this exact what is a photo energy
00:26:38
yeah this is my uh God where do we would you use this would you hell yeah I would
00:26:44
use this this is awesome cuz they had this magic editor feature before where they just showed like oh there's a kid with balloons on a park bench and you
00:26:50
just want to move them over so you just like click him and drag him over no issues at all with that no I mean this
00:26:55
seems like super reasonable if you're taking pictures of mult how many times do you take a group photo and like
00:27:01
there's not one single one where everybody's perfect so like and at least I'm at least happy this is taking other
00:27:08
photos of the person and not generating their smile photosh make them smile like open their
00:27:16
eyes like yeah that's my baby was missing from the photo add him yeah I think this is cool but it's not a
00:27:23
photo exact that's that's true it's like you can just Photoshop this and and then you have a you're going to put that in
00:27:28
your photo album it's taking from another photo though but it's not the one that it's not fake I think this is
00:27:34
the least creepy out of maybe all of the things imagine just imagine that you look through your photo gallery and
00:27:39
they're all different scenarios when you're at the beach when you're on the ski slopes and in all of them you have the exact same face I think it's pulling
00:27:46
though from recent data probably I'm guessing cuz definitely in the like
00:27:52
thing it shows multiple different photos on the Carousel and then it's like showing it swapping the face from a
00:27:58
different photo yeah so I think it's going to be at least from like it's not like hey Swap this picture of my kid on
00:28:04
the carousel except you're taking a photo from their second birthday three years ago I know this looks like I can
00:28:10
just oh by the way I know what green grass looks like too did you want that grass to be green oh by the way I know what a blue sky looks like too just
00:28:16
keeps going yeah when we go to the Google event on the 4th I will definitely be grilling them about how this works I'm very curious we'll get
00:28:23
the I think this is less creepy than the io stuff where it was like literally change every single piece of the photo
00:28:30
yeah they probably they'll probably announc some of that stuff too yeah they try to make it look like really friendly
00:28:35
like cuz I I think it's like the barrier to entry to photoshop like you're right it is Photoshop it's B it's not exactly
00:28:41
Photoshop but it's the ex it's the same thing you would do with Photoshop which is I have a picture I want it to look a little different to make it look better
00:28:47
and it's not the same as the original picture but this is what I wanted and I think that's the same philosophy here it's like I got this this capture and
00:28:54
it's of my kid and he's really happy but also I wanted him in the the middle and that person in the background I don't want them there so I'm going to just do
00:29:00
that real quick and it's super you just poke it and it goes away so that's that's what I feel like regular people
00:29:06
actually want yeah I could be wrong but no no that seems like that's what they want I think so I just feel like their
00:29:13
tools have gone from being helpful to now being like a lie Where's the Line
00:29:18
exactly Where's the Line before was like oh you know there's someone in the background remove them okay that one's
00:29:25
fine okay then there's what's your problem with face swap it's a face swap I don't man I don't know I think I
00:29:32
disagree with everyone on this one if it's a if it's a swap from like 3 seconds before when they're just looking
00:29:38
at the camera how far is too far a minute before if it's like not in the same
00:29:43
action I guess it's such a different like thought process because you're it's
00:29:48
like are you trying to capture exactly as that moment happened and then you can look at it later or are you just trying
00:29:55
to make a piece of art that includes your entire family yeah cuz like film basically what you're doing film has
00:30:00
been cuz you shoot film it's that's the capture of the moment fundamentally anyway and slowly digital photography
00:30:07
has gotten farther and farther and farther from that to like even just a regular iPhone photo of a tree you're
00:30:13
technically merging several moments together one a split second before the other was a capture of the sky with a
00:30:20
lower exposure and the other was a capture of the tree with a higher exposure and then it's merging those moments together it's not
00:30:28
but we're cool with that one we're cool with that one okay what if there's a k like just the picture of the tree we're
00:30:33
cool with those three moments cuz they're a millisecond apart and nothing changed yeah I mean are do you ever do
00:30:40
like uh it's a fine line any sort of um like why can't I think of the the like
00:30:46
autoc correcting brush in like a photo if there's like a spec on your like sensor yeah content aill like do you do
00:30:52
any of that in photos is that too much that's fine unless it's a what line are we here face I'm I'm saying I'm actually
00:31:00
fine with all I think you're saying tap the shutter post Zippo that's we're
00:31:05
approaching we're approaching the trolley problem but with photos I think my issue is more just the the time space
00:31:12
between them so like the tree example that's like milliseconds it's not on a human perception level that crazy but
00:31:21
like different faces in a scene that's like spanning what 30 seconds of
00:31:26
everyone joking around for the instant okay 2 seconds that's like perceptible time though oh man I I
00:31:33
disagree I don't get what's so weird about this it's like a video then take a video yeah I guess you can't put a video
00:31:40
on your wall at home not yet not okay Andrew you heard Andrew is this too far
00:31:47
here's my question you have a stock image of you that's your profile picture from years ago and you take a picture of
00:31:53
you I already yes it's weird cuz from years ago your is blurry but just superimposes
00:32:00
details from what knows your should like I think that's creating something new though okay okay yeah so you're okay
00:32:06
with that it is but so is the other thing no it's not it's taking it's just
00:32:12
taking two pictures and it's like let's do it's two pictures for here's an example here's an example I took a
00:32:18
remember the photo we took for like Max birthday party here and we had everybody including Boris and Astro in one photo
00:32:25
that photo that's posted is two photos split straight down the middle because Boris and Mac weren't looking at the camera at the same time and that one was
00:32:32
maybe 30 seconds apart those two shots 10 seconds apart yeah that's exactly
00:32:37
what this face swap is doing though except they just doing the face and not cutting down the middle of it so it's weird when it's way too much time
00:32:44
between the photos I agree okay got it yeah that makes sense I think in all these assuming it's within like like
00:32:50
click click click click click and then it's like in those five photos it's like okay find the ones where they're
00:32:55
actually looking at the camera it's going to be hard to Define what's too far yeah cuz everyone's going to have a
00:33:01
different line everyone's going to have a line and they're not going to understand why that line exists like oh this is from a photo that I took the day
00:33:07
before but in the same GPS location so it's probably the same light so it's fine yeah I think that's yeah getting
00:33:14
like go back to the spot to like take another picture to then blend in then it's like bro you cared way too much
00:33:21
about this what is the photo yeah but see that's just your opinion man you're right not wrong I can't wait I can't
00:33:28
wait to see you guys editing photos and be like what are you doing that's just not the real moment yeah no there's like
00:33:35
this is actually a big thing in the film photography Community there's people who are like do if you edit your film then
00:33:41
you're not actually like posting the real photo like you suck but at the same time it's like when you scan a piece of
00:33:48
film which is just a plastic Emulsion different scanners will show the colors differently there's not really a one
00:33:55
true color unless you take positive film if you I screenshot my
00:34:01
eyeballs yeah what is he was he could I couldn't say that was straight faed yeah
00:34:06
but it's like you're you're technically editing your film by choosing a scanner it's it's I don't know it's all semantic
00:34:13
too far yeah people people will too far don't don't scan the film at all yeah I
00:34:19
mean people might say that CU you could do like lab prints directly off of the film negative and then that's literally the truest no edits but # no filter # no
00:34:28
filter that's the only way you can do it fair no filter wow we we sent that one off the deep end so anyway pixel leaks
00:34:36
they happen sometimes uh we just take a quick break though because we got some more there's like a Microsoft Event there was a what there's a Amazon what
00:34:43
there's other events that happened yeah oh there's a meta event yeah there's a bunch of stuff we should talk about but before we get to all of that stuff we
00:34:49
should take a quick break trivia and do trivia did somebody say
00:34:55
trivia we didn't perfect you guys are in different seats
00:35:01
and it's really confusing it's been a little weird for me too sitting on this side um okay slept on the other side of
00:35:07
the bed I did driving on the wrong side of the road that's more dangerous that's way more dangerous first question Google
00:35:14
podcast is going away next year oh God rip Google podcast fun fact it was actually released for Android in 2018
00:35:22
yeah when did Apple first release the Apple podcast app on mobile a bazillion
00:35:27
years ago history yeah I remember every podcast I would listen to ever would
00:35:34
just be like make sure you rate US on on oh it was iTunes for a while it was iTunes for that's why I thought so and
00:35:40
then I thought you were about to give away some good information but now I don't think you know you're talking it is ancient history that podcast app it's
00:35:46
like the first big Big Apple podcast was yeah all the podcasts would always say please rate US on Apple podcast after
00:35:52
they said please rate US on iTunes yeah man interesting I'm I'm shot in the dark
00:35:57
on this one I think we'll see either way we'll be right
00:36:11
back support for this show comes from Wix web agencies you're going to like this one so let me tell you about Wix
00:36:17
Studio the platform that gives agencies total creative freedom to deliver complex client sites while still
00:36:22
smashing deadlines how first let me talk about the advanced design cap so with Wix Studio you can build unique layouts
00:36:29
with a revolutionary grid experience and watch as elements scale proportionally by default no code animations add Sparks

00:37:03
sites the seamless client Handover and that's not all find out more at wix.com
00:37:09
studio all right welcome back we're um hopping into the first event of this episode we're doing two events this
00:37:15
episode um this one actually technically happened before our last episode went out but we had recorded already so
00:37:21
that's why we're covering it this week instead and it's the Microsoft Surface event that happens every year
00:37:27
but it's not happening with Panos this year because he it is pretty sad he
00:37:32
officially is at Amazon as is he officially today the news came out cool Amazon Alexa right something with no oh
00:37:39
okay that was the first rumor I had read something else something else bring it up okay well since then he was the chief
00:37:45
product officer at Microsoft for like 19 years it's actually been on the podcast before great episode noisy episode yeah
00:37:52
that was an ear was a long one to edit I was editing back pre Adam andalis episode yes I wish they were here for that but um it was it was a great
00:37:58
episode he's always like seemed super passionate we've met him a couple times and I I have to admire how much he like
00:38:05
he was a super nice guy seemed very into the products for as much as we talk about presenters of products cuz there's
00:38:11
a huge variety of presenters of products like that's one guy who uh can really
00:38:16
get into the weeds of like I like product people and he you can tell he uses the product and like really appreciates and understands the Nuance
00:38:23
of how other people are going to use that I'm not sure I think lives in that world do you go on Hikes
00:38:30
and use the surface pen in Excel to track your altitude I think Panos does I
00:38:35
think he did I think he got into the flow all over the place all Microsoft
00:38:41
products but okay so we got an event what happened at this event ai ai ai
00:38:46
ai ai ai so bang stuff AI um not as much
00:38:51
they're clearly flexing their open AI partnership yeah yeah like a didn't so I
00:38:57
didn't get to watch it apparently it was like a private event but at least they had an event and then they sort of announced the things from the event
00:39:02
after something like that people were like live blogging about it and then they had like a testing area where you
00:39:08
could try stuff I think it was like Amazon did the same thing right it's like event but it's not really live but
00:39:14
it's also not really that private so you can everyone's tweeting from it it it was confusing I don't know why they didn't just stream it on YouTube like
00:39:20
someone made this point the other day and I thought about it I was like that makes sense it was like nobody knew that this Windows Event even happened because
00:39:26
they stream it on YouTube and it would have created a ton of hype from a ton of random people and people would still be
00:39:31
talking about it but they didn't stream it on YouTube so it ended up in some random blogs and they've done it in the past like have streamed it in the past
00:39:38
like we've watched it before so I don't know why they decided not to this year but I don't know um in terms of what
00:39:44
they announced they like we said like a lot of AI stuff seemingly um co-pilot
00:39:49
was kind of the main thing and co-pilot they announced before so it did sort of
00:39:54
seem like they were re announcing a lot of stuff but with Enterprise Focus uh which you know maybe this is
00:40:01
why they didn't live stream it maybe but I I think it was like cuz they announced it and how it is into the new like
00:40:06
Windows 11 update and it feels very similar to how like the iPhone event this year was so much of what they
00:40:13
announced at WWDC but now like here's the actual product that you're seeing it in which I guess for us when we watch
00:40:18
Everything feels redundant but Pro well no one watched this event so I guess it's not I was gonna say then it makes
00:40:25
it a little easier for the people watching specific device or software stuff yeah then they're seeing it for
00:40:30
the first time but it wasn't streamed so yeah I don't know yeah um one thing that was kind of a core point that was
00:40:37
exactly what we talked about with the Amazon event actually was the fact that they're allowing you to now communicate with your chatbot with a voice
00:40:43
multimodal now well multimodal in terms of it can also create images but like
00:40:49
because they announced Dolly 4 and now being chat has the ability to create images you can put in images and ask for
00:40:54
things and that kind of stuff and three right or four oh I wasn't supposed to talk about that
00:41:00
yet we are Dolly four uh Dolly 3 yeah yeah yeah yeah just check that's kind of
00:41:06
the funny thing is like opening I announced Dolly 3 they announced and they have Chad G pt4 and all of this is
00:41:12
like $20 a month but you can also just do it for free in bing that's I think the dolly thing is really what made this
00:41:19
seem like Microsoft like flexing its partnership here it's like they announced this a week ago and like look
00:41:25
we're already announcing it as part of inside the windows they'll always be the the first one to integrate something
00:41:31
with it because of that partnership they had like inside how it's developed they know what's going to be capable of they get to just make that stuff first yeah
00:41:39
pretty cool but a big thing is that the assistant that you're talking to has access to like all of your windows 11
00:41:45
stuff all your files and all that stuff so it can actually do stuff to the things on your desktop right yeah it's
00:41:52
it's like a part of all obviously the Microsoft 365 apps um in Edge and Bing
00:41:57
chat they it has all that I think I also saw something about cross device support where if you're asking about information
00:42:03
it can also access your phone which I'm assuming would need some sort of app but an example they used is phone Link phone
00:42:09
link yeah so Microsoft has this like phone link thing built in that links to your Android phone so has access to all
00:42:14
your photos and files and text messages and stuff it use an example of like asking for flight information that you
00:42:19
probably have on like an app on your phone instead of probably like right on your computer and that I could gather information through that h through voice
00:42:27
as well I mean like this again bringing back to the Amazon event and like the fire stick this feels like all of us
00:42:33
listening to this podcast and in this room right now are one step closer to not having to be the family tech support
00:42:39
like the fact that it can see stuff you can ask and it can help help you with
00:42:45
things that are happening on the computer yeah I'm very excited for yeah also it's just Advanced clippy yeah it
00:42:51
is it's clippy we talked about this months ago but they missed such a big opportunity
00:42:57
cppy people that it's like anthropomor but it's a a freak paper
00:43:05
clip it's perfect we kids know what paper we'll get to this later but like meta like an like used real human
00:43:11
likeness to make these chat Bots yeah and and Microsoft had the opportunity to have a paperclip talk to you yeah which
00:43:18
is perfect come on dude people are way more okay with that come like kids these days don't know what a save button
00:43:24
floppy disc is people don't like it's fine it'll be it's people barely know what a paperclip is Imagine yeah imagine
00:43:30
they see a paper clip kids are going to be seeing
00:43:35
paper clip well they won't what's paper and why did you clip it together it's weird it's a
00:43:41
computer true but anyways it should have been clippy cppy it should have been clippy um yeah so you can now
00:43:48
communicate with uh it basically co-pilot's going to be in deep more deeply integrated across like
00:43:53
Microsoft's entire ecosystem yeah bring from like we were used to it in Edge now it's in fullblown Windows that's what I
00:44:00
was going to say my two the two places on my computer where I personally think
00:44:05
I would get the most value out of an AI co-pilot is one in my browser so it can
00:44:11
be alongside my browser and help me either summarize or find or make the most out of what I'm looking at on the
00:44:16
web page yeah and two is alongside my computer and it's trained on and knows
00:44:22
everything on my computer and I can just ask it for a file where's my W9 from 2018 just like pull it up I don't want
00:44:29
to find it like you know where it is like that sort of thing like it can summarize things that I've written things that I've read my EMA my inbox
00:44:36
like all that stuff should just be like known by the AI I trade all of my privacy to this AI for it to help me out
00:44:42
I will trade all of my privacy to co-pilot if it can figure out Windows
00:44:47
audio drivers and which thing like music is playing out of around my computer out
00:44:54
of the 50 options that it decid show so I was listening to hard Fork which is this podcast with Casey Newton and Kevin
00:44:59
Roose it's very good very funny and very to the point um Casey's very funny and
00:45:05
they were talking about how they were basically Google recently announced sort of a version of co-pilot that only plugs
00:45:11
into all your Google apps so uh it was a it was a b extensions which we did not
00:45:16
cover yet I think that came out last week or late last week it's called B extensions and it's basically the same
00:45:22
as this where it plugs into all your Google Apps and then you can talk to Bard about things that might appear in your email appear in your this and Kevin
00:45:30
was asking uh was asking Bard like how do you think my emotional state is based
00:45:35
on some of my emails and it and it was like it seems like you're kind of depressed and and he was like can you
00:45:42
pull up like an email where it says I was depressed like that and it generated a fake email that he sent that he never
00:45:49
sent oh and so and this happened multiple times and I'm just like this guy is an AI Gody isn't he the one that
00:45:56
got like he's the one that got Bing to tell him to leave his wife yeah oh but I'm just like if you're
00:46:04
asking for like your flight information how can you trust to be trustworthy how do you trust it yeah
00:46:11
that's my thing like it doesn't seem ready yet like even Google's is not ready yet it's really good at gaslighting you it feels it's just like
00:46:18
it realizes you noticed it's wrong and it's like I don't want to be wrong I'm make you think you're wrong this is one
00:46:24
of those things where like I think busy enough people all at some point just go like what if I had an assistant what would they do and I think when Google
00:46:30
Assistant came out that felt like the dream because it's like this thing is going to know my calendar know my inbox
00:46:36
know where I commute to every day know what I'm going to do the next day what I'm going to like that's going to be basically everything I want from an
00:46:42
assistant and it's free and it's built into my phone I just ask it what what time do I got to leave for the airport for my flight like is my flight on time
00:46:48
I just ask it things and it helps me out the one thing I need that to be is dependable and accurate and reliable and
00:46:55
if going to Gaslight me about things I never even wrote in my inbox that's kind of broken yeah no it's not good it's not
00:47:01
good so it's I don't know I mean we'll see how Microsoft says hopefully it's a little more controlled considering it's more Enterprise focused and they have a
00:47:07
lot more to lose um but the B extensions thing is is kind of wild it I mean all
00:47:12
of these I enjoy because the people who go and break them for the first week so like when this is really rolling out the
00:47:19
new Windows update I can't wait to see all the press and how they mess with it I miss when Bing was going totally off
00:47:26
that was a sweet a fun week they had to limit it to five chats because it was going way too exential I remember we
00:47:32
were working on the video and I had all these examples of things it would do and one by one they started nuking creatures
00:47:38
and it would just start you were like talk to me naughty about the Cyber truck event and it started generating and then just disappeared deleted it like you
00:47:44
would like to go to this event wouldn't you delete delete delete what was that was weird yeah it's like turn it off
00:47:51
unplug it um anyway besides this AI stuff that they're announcing they also announced some Hardware uh one more
00:47:59
Windows update which we did Cover last week but I'm just reiterating okay layers in paint Banger update biggest
00:48:05
thing of the year I forget I know it should have been the how do you not live stream layers in paint that would have
00:48:11
been a hard retention Spike would have been huge Standing Ovation I think but
00:48:17
sorry interrup layers pops out with like a 10-second
00:48:22
graphic with yeah sick narration yeah 37 years in the making um okay anyway they
00:48:29
also announced Hardware uh pretty boring updates I got to say and this has been the case for surface for a very long
00:48:36
time um we got a surface uh which one which one was the boring one the go yeah the everyone's
00:48:43
favorite two in one you know we love twoin ones here the go is not the twoin one though no the studio no the surface
00:48:51
laptop go 3 is a two in one they didn't release I mean I wrote this later in here but like they there was no just
00:48:57
like surface laptop six there's no just like regular surface laptop it's still the five from 2022 weird that is not
00:49:04
something that they announced which is obviously I've been using this for a very long time yep I dig it I love the
00:49:09
form factor and the size and like nice hinge everything about this is fantastic so I was kind of looking forward to a new one but that's that's the thing I
00:49:17
sorry to interrupt that's the thing about like even working on this iPhone review and some pieces of tech I always
00:49:22
think like this piece of tech is really really great I wouldn't change a thing about it that's why I was bummed that
00:49:28
there wasn't a new one yeah but what yeah what do you technically we don't a
00:49:33
new one I think it's more like people really enjoy getting told that has a new feature that they didn't even realize
00:49:39
they wanted yet you know that's why people still want like Tech events to not get totally leaked before it happens
00:49:46
or when there's like an oh wow moment during like AE during a tech event of some kind it's like very exciting to
00:49:52
have no idea what you're going to see I think it's that and it's also like when when you see a new piece of tech you kind of picture it in your life and
00:49:58
you're like the last version of it like made all the right choices for my life so the newest version will probably also
00:50:04
make all the right choices for my life I'll better somehow and but it all be better in every direction hopefully yeah
00:50:10
but you never know to be fair this is a Surface laptop three so the six is like would have been a significant jump up
00:50:16
and like when you're kind of looking for something new you probably want to get it from the same year the last surface
00:50:22
laptop was from 2022 at this point almost a year ago okay so yeah Silver Lining is maybe if they didn't announce
00:50:29
it now that means it's going to be a bigger update that they're going to announce at a separate event but it would have been just as big oh at a
00:50:34
separate event yeah a separate non-li streamed event that nobody knows about
00:50:40
yeah yeah but yeah surface laptop go3 is a 2inone laptop um I mean yeah kind of
00:50:46
boring under 2 and a half pounds 15 hours battery life fast charging 12in touchscreen fingerprint read power
00:50:51
button 720p webcam Core i5 integrated Graphics 8 or
00:50:57
16 gab of ram I mean this is just like $900 it's like you said 20 webcam you
00:51:03
know that Kevin Hart clip where he's getting interviewed and the guy says like I'm like 47 years old and he just goes
00:51:09
damn I had the same when you said 720p webcam my brain was just like
00:51:15
damn wow okay to be fair like all webcams are 720p Rec 2023 new just one of those ones
00:51:23
I feel like just skip over that stat yeah yeah um I think the most exciting
00:51:28
laptop they announced was the surface laptop Studio 2 horrible name they should have just given it a new name um
00:51:35
but it's an upgraded version of the laptop Studio which we covered last year which is quite fun it's sort of a not
00:51:41
true successor but kind of like spiritual successor to the surface uh
00:51:46
what was it called called the studio right yeah no no the studio is the desktop I'm talking about the Surface
00:51:53
Book Surface Book Surface Book with the just called Surface Book it had the surface it was a tablet that docked into
00:51:58
this really awesome aluminum chassis and rip it out that like really bendy hinge
00:52:04
on it yeah that was their Apex of Microsoft hinges right I loved that not
00:52:09
visually yeah I liked it I don't know it looked like a a snake spine it reminded me of the like Roy Flex pie like snakes
00:52:17
have spines aren't they only spine they're not just on they're not just on muscle huge spine they do have a spine
00:52:24
gigantic spine okay that's good to know um anyway so they made it a lot faster
00:52:30
but the thing that is actually fairly interesting to me is that they put a dedicated AI uh accelerator chip in it
00:52:36
oh yeah they kind of glossed over that um and a lot of the Articles also glossed over it but they put an mpu
00:52:43
separate from the main Intel chipset in there or ryzen chipset whichever they're using probably because they were too
00:52:49
busy trying to talk about the 4050 or 4060 options that um promise up to two s
00:52:55
better graphics performance than Apple's M2 Max chip yeah they said that and I was like listen I and it's graphics
00:53:02
performance from a 4060 like I'm sure there's some sort of gaming scenario or
00:53:07
even just like rendering scenario where maybe it is better performance than that but it's just like a very specific thing
00:53:13
they did show a blender render test and uh they did it on stage and they started
00:53:18
the MacBook Pro at the exact same time and they as they started the laptop Studio and the MacBook Pro like took too
00:53:24
long so they kept they just moved on to the next section while it was still rendering but the laptop Studio had finished really fast but it's optimized
00:53:31
specifically for that kind of stuff yeah and I mean a 4060 is a Nutty card like that's a great card it's going to do
00:53:37
really awesome yeah but the npu is interesting because it's kind of like
00:53:43
you don't really fully understand how AI is going to be like a wrapped part of Windows like a really important part of
00:53:48
Windows and but the npu is specifically designed for those tasks so once we
00:53:54
actually get this version of Windows in people's hands and this laptop comes out then maybe you'll see how it's like
00:53:59
really accelerate accelerating all the AI tasks that it's supposed to do I think that says a lot yeah I think that
00:54:04
says a lot about how much they actually plan on having this stuff like work its way into Windows because if you're going to put dedicated silicon in the computer
00:54:12
for it that means they're going to do enough of it that they want a separate chip to take that action off of the main
00:54:18
CPU and so it'll be able to do it faster and ideally save your battery life so
00:54:24
pretty dope yeah yeah it does um It's actually kind of insane how quickly Windows went from like having nothing to
00:54:30
do with AI to this is the entire New Direction for our company when you spend that much money yeah on a partnership
00:54:37
I'm sure true but it's crazy cuz before chat GPT came out Microsoft which is Microsoft it had Cortana that was less
00:54:43
than a year ago wow that is wild do you realize that I mean they made that investment way before that but it was
00:54:49
only when chat gbt came out that Microsoft was like we're a different company now that's us that's up you made
00:54:55
this I made this I made this yeah exactly so I also think just the laptop
00:55:00
Studio in general is like a interesting it's a fun laptop like it's fun cuz it's
00:55:05
totally different I do appreciate it it is like bulky the way the screen hinges
00:55:12
so it can come forward like an easel and just like how the pen we did revie the first one I thought it was really cool
00:55:17
then too and this is just an updated version of it um yeah I I'd love to give it a try it's definitely a lot more to
00:55:24
like throw in your bag for traveling yeah there was one other thing they didn't announ it's funny that it was
00:55:30
announced outside the event but the event itself was kind of outside of the event event yeah but there's a surface
00:55:37
go 4 which is like a tablet for super cheap yeah it's like a cheap like
00:55:43
Frontline worker like go beat it up not great processor and everything like that so they announced that as well um but I
00:55:50
was yeah I was bummed like I said before no surface laptop 6 would as I assume assume what it would be um that's
00:55:56
usually I think kind of their like Flagship thing I agree it's like it's sort of like how Google has the pixel as being like this is what Andrew Andrew
00:56:04
you're Andrew this is what Android could be could look like here's all the crazy features that you we could have on
00:56:10
Android yeah that's what the Nexus devices used to be was that one of the questions that I asked um I didn't ask
00:56:17
Panos set I think I asked the CEO that like is like sat are you competing with other oems or are you like trying to
00:56:23
lead the way I'm trying to remember what he said he probably just said we're trying to leave the way because the companies that own the platform don't
00:56:30
care about the hardware right it's why Google just got like just kept not trying with the pixel for have but they
00:56:37
want to have a piece of Hardware to be able to flex like here's how well you could integrate with stuff here yeah and
00:56:43
it's basically like a test device when they make new software features they can test it on the thing that is made to run
00:56:48
their software features so no surface 6 means either a mission
00:56:55
accomplished B uh we're just late and it'll come out later I think they're just late or
00:57:04
see no that's it just a I mean the surface laptop Studio is still like a
00:57:11
beefy machine that can like handle all this really well and you would almost like say is the like if this the surface
00:57:16
laptop 6 would have been the pixel 8 then that's the laptop Studio is like the fold or something like that maybe
00:57:21
like a step different way more Niche and everything analogy yeah I like that analogy was the
00:57:30
reason we kept you around yeah thanks y um but yeah so that's why we keep you in the
00:57:36
middle so both of you cannot at my presence um shower me with phrase please
00:57:44
please but yeah that's the Microsoft Event yeah I was the best part of it
00:57:50
there there are there's even more events we got to talk about but we we do have some time time to get there which means
00:57:56
we should have a little bit of a break all right so let's do another trivia question trivia where's Ellis I'm back
00:58:03
trivia time oh iPhone 15 Pro intro audio done it's a
00:58:10
banger get ready for that oh I'm so pumped for that you've already watched it haven't you yeah it's been out for two days by the time you're listening to
00:58:16
this people hopefully same day right hopefully I'm I'm giving myself a little buffer it'll be out by the time you
00:58:22
watch this it's been out for beep days yeah yeah wow were you about to say something you just be I was gonna say
00:58:27
you teleport back in for trivia because trivia is very important and we need to have good trivia question very did you
00:58:32
guys get my weird question during the break I got it first wait which one for all the viewers out there ma if you
00:58:39
rearrange the letters and meta it spells what important food group but I wrote it
00:58:45
out it's m ETA it's like Mom what's your ETA anyway my real question is also
00:58:52
about meta oh oh yes meta your real question is no newcomer to the hardware
00:58:59
game as early as 2011 they had a Facebook not branded but oriented phone
00:59:06
on the market right it was called the HTC status and I had this little Facebook button at the bottom I remember
00:59:11
that but the HTC status is actually what they renamed the phone horrible first
00:59:16
name do you remember the first name it's terrible I do remember it but I don't
00:59:22
remember it that's the problem like I remember that but I don't I don't remember I remember
00:59:28
Facebook going to make a watch at one point too yes right and it had a camera on it everyone's like I don't want this
00:59:34
you remember that that was like last year they're like you guys wouldn't like and a microphone in your house
00:59:40
that' be cool HTC status I remember it having a worse name it did have a worse
00:59:46
name when AT&T made it an exclusive of theirs I think they made HTC change the
00:59:53
name or at least that's when the name got changed they like guys come on come on really can't name oh yeah I know it
01:00:00
good cool I won with you this does say last you and me it was last year that
01:00:05
one says last year cuz I'm a God incredible I know things sometimes all right well we'll all ponder that Andrew
01:00:12
will I've got no chance he's got no chance we'll be right back [Music]
01:00:23
deep all right welcome back to the metaverse section of the podcast where we just pretend to have legs uh you guys
01:00:31
don't know you can't prove you can't see you've never seen our legs on this podcast it's because we don't have any but uh yeah we're going to pretend to
01:00:38
have legs for this segment so just picture us with legs uh or or we just
01:00:43
actually wait yeah also Adam and I confirmed legs from Family Feud episode where we stood up y'all have legs so
01:00:50
yeah we producers confirmed have legs prod there is definitely an episode with me having my leg really high in the air
01:00:56
so it's just David has one leg Red Jacket people legs question mark question mark anyway anyway there was a
01:01:02
meta event we had a big long keynote with uh I guess Mark Zuckerberg gave
01:01:08
most of the keynote but there's a bunch of other stuff but we got some announcements 30 minutes late too it was it was late it was live stream though so
01:01:13
shout out to that at least happening uh and we got some new it was basically three new things that they announced it
01:01:19
was the quest 3 it was the I guess it's called
01:01:25
what you call them glasses they're glasses they're Rayband stories marked two Ray band's glasses with camera we'll
01:01:30
talk about and I think it just said smart glasses on the screen yeah smart glasses and also an AI thing yeah so
01:01:37
more llamas going to like use that umbrella term for now so okay let's start with the quest 3 so we knew the
01:01:42
quest 3 was coming this is the big thing where I don't know honestly if you're just talking like most accessible most
01:01:48
popular Vera headsets in the world it's the quest and that's the one that you know it's what 300 bucks one I think
01:01:53
it's 400 now right oh is jacked up the price that's why it was insanely
01:01:59
accessible and now it's a little less accessible so it did sort of graduate as well so I'll just give you the details so we have the Quest 2 which was a VR
01:02:06
headset didn't have it I think it had maybe one pass through camera yeah this is the quest three it is a fully what
01:02:14
they're calling it and this is very specific wording is the first mainstream headset built for mixed reality and what
01:02:22
they mean by that is when they say first they mean we're coming to Market before the Vision Pro when they say mainstream
01:02:29
they mean we will cost less than any of the others including our other one yep and when they say mixed reality they are
01:02:34
referring to the fact that you can use pass through all the time and it is how it's meant to be used so you can put
01:02:41
things in your daily environment you see your environment around you but there are virtual items overlaid inside that
01:02:47
environment so that's the mixed reality thing the reason it costs more $4.99 when it comes out in October is because
01:02:52
it's got to have a bunch of now it's got cameras on the outside side more sensors to do better pass through which is
01:02:57
understandable it's also got a new Snapdragon xr2 with double the graphics performance I think they said it's going to have 90 Herz but will do 120 HZ with
01:03:05
a beta or something yeah yeah so it's got a bunch of new stuff it looks pretty cool it looks different on the outside
01:03:12
yeah and uh it's coming later this year this is definitely their reaction to Apple um although they announced I mean
01:03:19
they they announced it technically before the Vision Pro even got announced but I think that they knew that were
01:03:24
starting to move to mixed reality stuff or spatial Computing stuff but it is such a huge Divergence from their
01:03:31
previous quests because the previous quests have been all VR yeah yes you technically have passed through but it's
01:03:37
black and white it's really low frame rate it's safety like to set up your room and if you get past the like
01:03:43
barrier you set up so you don't immediately run into something when you saw pass through in the old Quest you were like oh no something's wrong yeah
01:03:50
and most of this keynote was talking about mixed reality yeah which is so funny because every other time they're
01:03:56
like guys we're going to make the metaverse happen we're going to make the metaverse happen and then every game they would release is just VR just VR
01:04:03
and they have the exact same thing where like apple had the has the thing where they you can dial in how much of mixed
01:04:08
reality you want versus virtual reality and now you double tap and you are fully immersed in the VR world you double tap
01:04:15
and then you've got mixed reality back yeah so it's also funny cuz I remember we were talking about this a few weeks
01:04:21
ago and you were like oh the new meta Quest is probably going to have like this and this and mixed reality I was
01:04:27
like why would it have mixed reality this is not the Oculus Quest Pro is their mixed reality thing why on Earth
01:04:33
would this have it that makes no sense it's jeopardizing the Oculus Quest Pro the the massive success of the Oculus
01:04:39
Quest Pro um they sold them all to assuan but but here it is and it's there
01:04:44
and I can't help but think this looks pretty awesome and makes the ocul I've
01:04:50
said it so many times I've messed it up but the quest Pro seems bad oh yeah there's almost no reason anyone should
01:04:56
ever get the quest Pro I mean it was sort of made for businesses in the first place why it was a couple thousand dollars or whatever I you know what it
01:05:02
reminds me of it reminds me of the Mustang Mach e where you're like okay it's not the same as the other Mustangs
01:05:09
but I could see why you'd want to use a Mustang name to get people to pay attention to it cuz if they tried a new name with this that didn't say Oculus
01:05:16
Quest I don't think it would be received quite the same way so this is sort of graduating to mixed reality and we're
01:05:21
just like this is part of the family now so this is just the way it is now Quest 3 mixed reality great yeah uh some other
01:05:28
updates on that um you can now use hand the hand tracking is apparently significantly improved um hoping for
01:05:34
this Zuck said through some AI stuff okay very generic uh probably
01:05:42
training on more hands or something uh and he also said like you can use the new controllers which by the way do not
01:05:48
have the Rings anymore so now there they're significantly improved controllers he was like you can use the new controllers or you can use your
01:05:54
hands so it seems like they're probably wanting to move towards just being able
01:05:59
to use your hands for everything I mean if it's like the quest Pro they said there was way better tracking and some sort of things in the new controllers
01:06:06
and these controllers look exactly like the quest Pro controllers so again it feels like jeopardizing that but yeah
01:06:11
for games you want to like use guns and stuff it makes sense to have a controller that has half feedback Etc
01:06:17
but for a lot of things using your hands is probably going to be useful yeah I wonder if it's the same pinch gesture type stuff yeah I don't know I still
01:06:24
think cuz like the um Vive does Pinch gesture things and I remember Shen one time telling us a big reason of that is
01:06:30
because when you tap on your finger you're getting feedback from yourself so like you still want that feedback yeah
01:06:36
and it's all built out already like you can use your hands as controllers but it's like this interesting like pointer mechanism where you put your fingers
01:06:43
together and then it draws a line at the thing that you're pointed at so it's different from the from the Vision Pro
01:06:48
which in Apple's demo you just look at the button and tap your fingers anywhere
01:06:54
yeah and it just selects what you're looking at which was very different it's a very it's a much more complex thing that's a $3,000 headset Etc we know it's
01:07:01
different that's just that's the difference in controls yeah it really feels like they're trying to Pivot towards being an apple competitor like I
01:07:08
previously I kind of felt like they were different use cases like apple is like this is all productivity and work and you can I guess kind of do games but
01:07:16
you're going to be watching movies you're going to be watching court side they they had the same thing they had like the same demos that Apple used to
01:07:22
like show off the Vision Pro stuff watch all the NBA games or like have one NBA game but then also kind of the other
01:07:27
ones on the side and scores and standings and stuff like that yeah exactly the same as Apple did it yeah I
01:07:34
can't believe this is coming into the thing that feels like the quest Pro or sorry The Vision Pro competitor because
01:07:40
I thought the quest lineup of these like cheaper ones were really going to be based on VR and gaming and let's be real
01:07:47
the best things you're still going to be able to do in this are VR and gaming and like that's what I actually like about
01:07:52
the Quest 2 and what this will be but like yeah cool it's got more uh it's got
01:07:58
mixed reality and depending on how well they can do the productivity stuff that
01:08:03
apple is targeting The Vision Pro to be they could have a leg up because Apple
01:08:09
doesn't really see the Vision Pro as a gaming device I mean it's heavy it's expensive you don't want to sweat in it
01:08:16
very much whereas this is like you've got swappable headbands you've got all these things they're washable they're
01:08:21
machine washable it's cheap it's made of plastic and so they've already gone super far into making this a good gaming
01:08:27
device so if they're able to nail lot of the productivity stuff that apple is doing with the Vision Pro then they're
01:08:33
kind of ahead in a lot of ways this it feels like this is an area where they they they've got to be ahead because
01:08:39
they've been making these headsets and they actually know how people really use them so Apple's never made I'm I'm sure
01:08:45
they have market research and they know how people they think they're going to use the headsets but I think Mark said on stage like it turns out people love
01:08:52
Fitness in these things and like seems crazy but it's the most popular thing people do in these headsets is like turn
01:08:59
games into like Fitness experiences be saber is like the number one thing I play on these a thousand times over and
01:09:05
there's a bunch of things just like beat saber that people love I think it's that and it's also the quest Pro is $3,500 or
01:09:13
sorry the The Vision Pro is $3,500 and I think if I'm just forecasting in like
01:09:19
basic apple language remove the word Pro they're going to have a cheaper version at
01:09:24
just the the vision whatever if I can just go out there there was just a rumor that 9o5 Mac posted from um why can I
01:09:31
mingi quo that that cheaper version is potentially
01:09:36
cancelled just throw that out there you know in the middle of the podcast that's all there is there's like no more information about it but there's a rumor
01:09:42
that that might be canc that is fascinating I mean I just go by like Apple's like they do in the future what they did in the past so okay this has
01:09:48
the word Pro on it what does that mean it's a higher end expensive one which probably means they're going to make a lower end not as expensive one probably
01:09:54
has less features sure and it'll probably be in the same price bracket not the same price maybe but the same
01:09:59
bracket as this so they will have a leg up in both adoption because it's a lower price and knowing what people actually
01:10:05
do with it having a plastic build having interchangeable headsets like being more Fitness focused I think it'll have a
01:10:12
bunch of legs up in that way the main thing that are behind on in the productivity space though is ecosystem cuz like Vision Pro is basically a
01:10:19
Macbook that has all of your Apple stuff yeah like mirrors it connected to your iCloud but it also will literally mirror
01:10:26
your MacBook yeah where with this I think they showed some software and they had some Microsoft compatibilities I'm trying to remember exactly what they
01:10:32
said it would do but it it would do some stuff like teams yeah I mean I do all my business in WhatsApp so I think I've got
01:10:39
this directly plugged in like that was yeah we we do your
01:10:48
business this is uh you know it's it's it's a new headset we will we will see when it comes out in October there is
01:10:54
one thing they showed that I have a little bit of a gripe with go ahead they were showing kind of like the mixed
01:10:59
reality and how you can use different I forgot what they called them um but basically like different apps and programs that would be able to be kind
01:11:06
of pinned around your world similar to what Apple was talking about one of them was Instagram they're
01:11:12
making new Instagram basically app inside the metaverse that can that works
01:11:18
in your space and everything but they're still too lean of a team to make an iPad app you can't use that excuse anymore
01:11:24
you put it in the metaverse and it's not on the iPad I would bet you the real excuse why they haven't made an iPad app is because they compress photos too much
01:11:31
and because they compress them so much if they have to stretch them up to a bigger scale they're just going to look awful yeah that's the best theory I've
01:11:38
heard on that that's hilarious yeah I just want to say as as the person in the office who
01:11:44
embarrassingly has probably spent the most hours in the quest Pro I know not something I'm proud of
01:11:51
I'd like to apologize to my girlfriend for making making that public um I I I
01:11:57
don't see the difference between the quest 3 and the quest Pro I see a difference this way more comfortable
01:12:02
this is way better I think this looks way better than the it looks a little bit more powerful and people say the color on the pass through cameras is
01:12:08
better but other than that it's like like what what what is it actually like that's what I'm saying I think this
01:12:14
cannibalizes the quest Pro well except for when you like sell it overpriced to Enterprise businesses by saying it's the
01:12:19
pro version but like I think the cheaper plastic and lightness of this will make it way more comfortable because the
01:12:25
quest Pro was not exactly a comfortable headset your forehead gets wet I mean you get sweaty in this but I'm usually
01:12:32
playing Beat saber you know on like expert expert plus so I'm going to use it when when we get it I'm doing the
01:12:38
same thing I'm spending full work days in this until I start puking nice this is the Zuck dream yes spend more time in
01:12:46
it I'm interested they they have a 90 HZ with the 120 HZ beta whatever that means
01:12:51
um but I'm interested in the uh latency because one thing that the Vision Pro
01:12:56
did exceedingly well in the demo that we had was like such little latency that you could stand up walk around run
01:13:02
around and it felt like you were doing it normal you're talking about the mixed reality latency aspect of it right feing
01:13:08
the image into the camera and into your eyeball crazy important yeah it's super important the pass through demo with the
01:13:13
Vision Pro is the only one where I feel confident I could win points of ping pong with the headset on yeah real
01:13:20
pingpong we got make a I don't every other one you would like swing and you'd see the pass through and
01:13:27
you'd think you're connecting but there's enough latency that you're not connecting yeah and the pass through on the Vision Pro was that good yeah yeah
01:13:34
we'll see about this one see one other thing this has or I should say doesn't have is those creepy eyes on the outside
01:13:41
of it and that is a huge win it does have a little bit of a new design it does look a bit different it's got it
01:13:47
looks kind of like alien yeah but uh no not your own eyes plastered on the front
01:13:53
yeah staring at you yeah um yeah so that's that's Quest 3 it's coming
01:13:58
October 10th uh he said August 10th by accident and it showed October 10th on
01:14:03
the screen all of us had to have a minute of like what day is it year did September not start yet yeah when he
01:14:10
said August I was like I swear to God it's September I know it's September but yeah you're right it's October he opened
01:14:16
the next part of the keynote with all right this is kind of a really hard pivot cuz it's completely different but
01:14:22
I'm just going to go for it let's talk about Ai and I was like and then four people in the front
01:14:28
row were like uh golf club I was like God every Tech keyote ever is just like
01:14:34
it's AI time guys it's chatbot time we're gonna talk about it they really the AI Dinner Bell
01:14:40
and so the main thing they announced was meta AI which is going to be populating
01:14:46
basically all of their meta apps um you're going to be able to talk to this llm in WhatsApp messenger and Instagram
01:14:54
uh I don't know about Facebook probably Facebook but maybe they don't want you to do that I don't know I guess like
01:14:59
messenger is built into Facebook as well so it would be the same thing sort of yeah um but it's basically based on
01:15:06
their llama 2 model which they are like populating throughout all of their
01:15:11
applications um for those that don't know llama was their large language model these are all different names of
01:15:17
animals um mostly because some animals have two L's in their name yeah large language and also announced U which is
01:15:25
their photogenerating um Ai and there wasn't an acronym for it
01:15:32
I don't remember what it was but they literally said sticking to The Animal theme one thing they were trying to do to like undercut open AI was that they
01:15:39
are announcing like both the chat bot which they want to compete with gbt 4 and their image generation bot which
01:15:45
they were specifically like it doesn't take minutes this takes literally 5 seconds and everything is free so with
01:15:51
open AI right now you have to pay $20 if you want to use GPT 4 and you have to pay that money if you want to use Dolly
01:15:59
3 that is built into GPT 4 now so the images they showed looked pretty good
01:16:06
they all kind of had sort of a cartoonish like drawing to them where I would be curious if they could do other
01:16:11
styles but like anytime you see a keynote like that you know they're hand selecting the absolute best of the best versions so I'm just going by that and
01:16:17
saying all right these are pretty good yeah I'm curious if I can test it and see what they actually look like if I test more yeah one neat thing I think
01:16:24
they did with it was bringing it into like stickers in WhatsApp and messenger where like you if there was a sticker
01:16:30
you didn't have like if you wanted a frog on a skateboard you could type in
01:16:36
and it would create one through emu and make a sticker for you I was like that's the kind of little thing that I actually
01:16:41
think is kind of neat I would like that that's kind of like um in iOS 17 how you can like turn anything into a sticker
01:16:48
and use it throughout your different apps yeah but this you could just like type in some totally hinged thing that
01:16:54
maybe you're talking about and then it would make a sticker and then put it in yeah that's kind of I think that's kind
01:16:59
of R weird I think that's cool it I don't maybe I'm old I don't know I just
01:17:05
every time every time I see a tech keynote get to the stickers section I just my eyes
01:17:11
glaze over and I just like wait for the next thing to start like I don't how many group chats are you in Mar not in
01:17:18
any that use stickers I'm in group chats nobody uses the stickers and but you know clearly people do cuz there's a
01:17:24
long section in every keynote what's the Google thing called where if you like put two emojis together and it Mak Emoji
01:17:30
kitchen Emoji kitchen with the hot dog is like the best thing ever this is like a way cooler version of like I need to
01:17:36
react with a frog with laser eyes so let me just go in the thing real Qui the big the the crypto frog yeah I I kind of
01:17:42
love that I love that that's like you're bringing your imagination to life and just putting it into the chat it's one of those use cases that I can imagine
01:17:49
perfectly I just never ever use yeah so limiting Emoji are limiting they're very
01:17:55
specific our slack is going to be full of oh yeah when we move our all our work chats to whatpp to Whatsapp yeah okay so
01:18:03
but by far the weirdest part about this meta AI thing was that they were announcing these chat Bots that you can
01:18:10
interact with use the likeness of a bunch of celebrities so weird with
01:18:15
different names and we were having this really weird existential question about like conversation about this when we
01:18:20
were in the other room even just the way they announced was strange because it showed they just there were like these
01:18:26
new people you can chat with that are like videos of people talking to you but there's a bunch of pictures of people we
01:18:32
recognize but different names and they like didn't explain it for a while so the way they said it was like you can
01:18:38
talk to I don't know I'm making this up Victor played by Dwayne Wade and it would be Dwayne Wade's face and you're
01:18:45
using you're having a chat conversation with Victor but also Dwayne Wade and you're just supposed to not say it's
01:18:51
Dwayne Wade it's like it's Victor but it's Dwayne Wade's personality and likeness right and so they had Snoop
01:18:57
Dogg they had Mr Beast Tom Brady a bunch of people in there and it was like you can have a conversation with Tom Brady but it's Bob or whatever it said it's
01:19:05
what and you're like okay Tom Bry am I do I am I supposed to feel like am I
01:19:12
like talking to Tom Brady or is it like why are these likenesses involved at all the way the the way I see it it's like
01:19:18
if one of these chat Bots goes nuts and tells me to jump off a bridge I can't Tom told me to J off a bridge so I'll
01:19:25
have to say Brew told me to jump off a bridge so that's that's the difference instead of Tom Brady exactly and then
01:19:32
Tom Brady won't be in two lawsuits because if if any
01:19:38
company because if think about it if any company approached you and they're like David we want anyone to be able to have
01:19:44
a conversation with you through an AI chat bot that we trained to know everything about you your fans can just
01:19:49
talk to you all day and that would be cool right and the one objection I would
01:19:55
have is like what if that chatbot says something crazy that I would never say they're like no trust me it knows
01:20:01
everything about you and it would never say anything crazy and I'd be like but that's what you said about Bing and it
01:20:06
went nuts for a week so just to protect me a little bit you can use my likeness
01:20:12
if you pay me a lot and also call it something else yeah and that was just a
01:20:17
weird confusing I'm surprised that this many bigname celebrities agreed to this big name they are hu they're all huge
01:20:25
celebrities must have made so much like oh my God it's crazy they said it's
01:20:30
coming for regular creators sometime in the future like next year it sounds like it's coming for you that's how that
01:20:38
sounds he did have this like three or four minute Spiel where he was like look we know that creators really value their
01:20:43
brand and we don't want to have this go we're going to roll this out slowly and patiently and be careful about this because we know you wouldn't want it to
01:20:50
just represent you without you knowing exactly how it'll be behave so that's why we're using it with these first I'm
01:20:55
going to turn my action button into your AI this let me talk to Marquez hey Marquez just like yes Adam we we talked
01:21:03
before about how people like break these things the week of people breaking these with celebrity is going to be
01:21:10
screenshots are going to be so going to be weird I can't wait for the screenshots I'm still a little confused
01:21:15
is it really using like their personality or they just they're like putting people into there's like a chef
01:21:21
that you can ask cooking questions and there's like uh Chris Paul was golfing
01:21:27
because golfer yeah yeah so I don't know if it's really them or more just like they have a category they talk about
01:21:33
it's probably just a category that they represent um is just to get it to feel
01:21:38
friendly like I wouldn't talk to Bob the funny guy but if Mr BEAST's face is on
01:21:44
it maybe I will Beast the funny guy I need to talk to one of these people ASAP and ask what the terms and conditions of
01:21:50
this were like did they scrape all of their text messages in terms of like finding their
01:21:57
personality that's why I don't think is actual personality and it I I think you're right but then why even pay for
01:22:03
the celebrities at all I guess it's a familiar face but even that it just
01:22:09
looks like it's a single photo and then like what's that face app where that people always take your face and make
01:22:14
you say like crazy things or like sing it that's all it feels like it doesn't even feel like a video it's very obviously like it's like Snoop Dog the
01:22:21
dungeon master like emoting in the corner there's not even smoke how realistic could it be yeah
01:22:27
yeah that's proof there's no personality there's zero personality that's why that's why the over the iPhone's been overheating is cuz Snoop Dog just
01:22:34
smoking in your phone too much Snoop Dog the AI dungeon master new sentence yeah it's weird man I'm dog
01:22:42
the we got wait a AI generat random Dolly deration yeah we'll wait for this
01:22:49
to come out U I think that was the weirdest Tech event demo I've ever seen
01:22:55
I was genuinely baffled the entire time it was going yeah at no point did you feel like you want to try it no yeah I
01:23:02
do got to say like all of the the celebrities that they had on stage to like or not on stage but in the app to
01:23:08
be like hi I'm Mr Beast and I do this they all seem like they didn't want to be there but Snoop JG like showed up in
01:23:14
this full like costume he was he he was all in it dude goes 110% man went 110
01:23:22
got to love that about Snoop man you're getting all Snoop they labeled Mr Beast as the funny guy yeah what also Chris
01:23:29
Paul is a basketball player not a golfer is going on don't win a championship you're golfing a lot yeah maybe that's a
01:23:35
that's a subtle dig actually but like that was not subtle that was very Charles Barkley's a golfer too God yeah
01:23:43
we we heard you lot spent a lot of time in the Bahamas so we're gonna train this one on someone who vacations a
01:23:48
lot um the vacationer yeah yeah I don't know I I think that they took the idea
01:23:54
of these personalized AIS because this is a whole conversation in like the AI space right now is like that you're
01:24:00
going to have a sub aai to help you with like every single little task that you want to do versus like one omniscient AI
01:24:06
that happens to know everything that's sort of the competing conversation it seems like they just took that and they ran with it that's interesting yeah like
01:24:13
what do you do with Mr Beast the funny guy especially if it's not his personality tell me a joke funny
01:24:19
man hit the joke button over and over again yeah and then the the bigger question in all of this is there's
01:24:26
another conversation about people owning their digital twin have you heard of this this conversation at all fleing
01:24:34
fleeting over the past couple of months yeah it's basically like if I can go on the internet and ask Abraham Lincoln and
01:24:39
ask to talk to Abraham Lincoln and there's a bunch there's an AI That's trained on everything he's ever written
01:24:46
and then I'm basically talking to Abraham Lincoln it's like that's eventually going to happen for everyone
01:24:51
whether you like it or not someone's going to scrape all of your videos they're going to turn it into a bunch of text all of your tweets someone's going
01:24:58
to make AI Marquez and be like what phone should I buy and they'll just like ask the AI version of me yeah yeah and
01:25:05
so the question is like should you own that since it's technically your likeness versus can someone just
01:25:11
randomly make it cuz someone will make it against your will it will happen it's going to take some sort of a redefining
01:25:17
of what likeness is yeah but yeah you should on that yeah for sure so we'll find out when meta releases this version
01:25:23
of that in like 6 months yeah it I just this sh started in October it wasn't
01:25:30
that long ago that I'm just it's been less than a year and we live in a completely different world now I just feel like Google probably thought about
01:25:37
this and said well we shouldn't do that remember when they had like you can have a conversation with Pluto like cuz we
01:25:42
know everything about Pluto literally everything Humanity ever knows about Pluto Google knows that too so it's like
01:25:47
you can have a conversation with insert subject here like oh what's it like being 900 Million Miles Away From the
01:25:53
Sun oh it seems like it's pretty cold what's the closest thing to you how bright is the sun and it'll it'll know everything and'll have a conversation
01:25:59
can you hold on one second did you think the Disney character Ellisa no the planet the planet the planet so over
01:26:07
there super confused why is Pluto 900 million miles no that was what you that
01:26:12
was what clued me back okay yeah yeah like cluto you back in no plut so they they had that moment and then I think it
01:26:19
was sort of a a google.io demo that that happened and I don't know that became a real tool that people could use but
01:26:24
guarantee somebody was like Lambda 2 well we also have a bunch of info about
01:26:29
people what if you could just have a conversation with Barack Obama and someone was like h no we shouldn't do
01:26:36
that that person was a lawyer yeah that could have exactly and that could have a bunch of weird implications yeah I mean
01:26:42
uh the Transformer was invented in 2017 so I at Google so I would bet you that
01:26:48
Google has had basically like this level of technology for a while they just knew that it was freaking ridiculously
01:26:54
Reckless and dangerous to just like release it open AI was like we're just a random
01:27:01
Foundation I don't I don't know and they just went with it and now everything's Google was like I'm too
01:27:06
busy killing off services to release this sorry that thing that's going to change the world I was focusing on
01:27:13
Google podcasts well anyway the last thing that they announced we had the we had the AI
01:27:20
we had the quest 3 the last thing they announced was the Rayband glasses the new ones version two Rayband Stories 2
01:27:26
and they show all these demos where like this chat comes up and you can do this cool thing where you're streaming on
01:27:31
Instagram from the glasses and you have video calls from the glasses and they see through your camera and all that is
01:27:37
super cool for first- person view but there's no screen so if you're streaming on Instagram you can't read any of the
01:27:43
comments you have to have your phone out if you're on a video call you can't see who you're calling they just see what
01:27:50
your camera sees like there's a whole bunch of weird missing things that I would like screen it was like actively
01:27:56
confusing in the cuz everything they showed felt like you were reading things online like when you when charl Clair
01:28:03
best part of the entire by the way was that the F1 driver that's like in it um
01:28:09
he's like live streaming a go-kart race and it shows like the chat going up but like you can't see that and then like
01:28:15
later when it's showing how it uses AI so you can a new feature that's coming out next year so if you're asking hey
01:28:21
meta I I can say that and I don't think I'm gonna set anyone one's devices off on the podcast yeah it is the trigger
01:28:28
but um way so you can ask you can ask it things and it can like a chat bot but
01:28:33
it's Audio Only but in all of the examples it's showing the question asked and showing the answers from it which
01:28:39
feels like if I were watching that and not paying enough attention I would be able to see that in the glasses but you
01:28:45
can't yeah you you hear it in the speakers so that's yeah it's interesting
01:28:50
I don't know how useful it will be this is why I tweeted like Google Glass hear me out could come out
01:28:58
tomorrow and it would still feel ahead of its time yeah yeah cuz Google Glass was the same idea it was actually it
01:29:04
didn't even have glasses attached to it you could attach glasses but it was just the frame and it had the bone conduction
01:29:09
speaker so you could hear stuff but it also would show like navigation instructions incoming notifications like
01:29:16
all that stuff on the little prism yeah that was none of these smart glasses that we're seeing have like video
01:29:22
support to like actually see something in a screen everything is just like it records video it does this but you can't
01:29:29
like watch anything in them what if your screen could be projected onto something in front of you H that sounds like a
01:29:35
very Humane technology and also like something from uh
01:29:42
2004 but yeah like but it has AI so it's okay true true sure but yeah like I I
01:29:47
don't know all that whole thing and even just like saying we're announcing three things today today and showing smart
01:29:53
glasses at the end when you're talking about all this Ai and mixed reality and everything and then just to be like oh
01:29:59
yeah they're just glasses with a camera that feels like a privacy Nightmare and also there's no video on the screen at
01:30:07
all the big up in them was that next year you're going to be able to talk to your personalized AI well I don't know
01:30:12
about personalized you'll be able to talk to an AI in the glasses well so that's no that's already that'll be out
01:30:19
when it comes out the thing next year is that reference what you're seeing so the
01:30:24
camera will be able to like you can look at I don't know bottle of milk did they make bottles trying to yeah not here
01:30:32
bottles wa what oh it's cartons here right there's bottles of milk are not really a bottle maybe somewhere else
01:30:39
maybe like you get like an individual what do you call it waha when you get chocolate milk well chocolate milk comes
01:30:45
in a bottle but regular milk doesn't really come in you can get a regular milk thing like that what about the lunchroom when you were like a kid a
01:30:50
cart a c oh I had ones that had like that pull off tab on the top plastic okay I've seen that I've seen wa really
01:30:57
a bottle yeah but it's like a little mini like yeah it's a bottle I guess we don't have in the golden no Out Canadian
01:31:05
slap that not here sry sorry we didn't have any it was like a little bean bag full
01:31:11
of milk every time I picture a bag of milk I just picture it like that's like European I've never seen that in the
01:31:17
United States we just went so this this this this is what I had in um wow
01:31:23
loading internet nice anyway so if you looked at your bottle of milk then the
01:31:28
AI could theoretically be like hey Andrew in your ears that no one else can hear this has got 1,400 calories in it
01:31:35
and you're like I think the example it showed on screen yeah that's a bot that's a bottle this is the most dystopian I have ever seen dude I like
01:31:42
the example where it was looking at a leaky faucet and it said hey meta what
01:31:47
is this and the response was how do I fix this and it said this is a leaky faucet you start by disassembling it and
01:31:55
that's what it's said to the person oh my God what do you what do you say now like how and then it it has to talk you
01:32:03
through with zero visuals look there's a world where this works amazingly well we're just so far from it like if I can
01:32:08
look at my tool chest and be like which tool and it's like third from the left hex wrench and you grab it and it starts
01:32:14
directing you that's what Google Glass that would be sick but I just just no way it works that well like you reach your hand out and it's like two over to
01:32:20
the right then you grab it that sounds if it was that good without a screen cuz
01:32:26
it's got to do all audio for that yeah yeah that sounds that's why the Google Glass one would just show you a picture of it you be like oh it's that one so
01:32:32
we're far we're far from this working well the idea is there somebody doing this in the wild of like what like
01:32:40
talking to their glasses and like moving their hand based on the questions they're asking it this now convinces me
01:32:45
that you know how the vision you know how the uh airpods Pro have the new audio mode that's like it's like
01:32:52
adaptive I bet you they only made that because they want people to be wearing the Vision Pro and feel more immersed
01:32:59
with the noise cancellation but then when they actually need to talk to people and just not get hit by a car oh
01:33:05
that's a great Point yeah it's like pass through on the headset yeah what whoa It's audio pass through wait a whoa wow
01:33:13
yeah Apple's got the best pass through audio already in headphones yeah ready
01:33:19
to pair with the best pass through video and a headset I never even put that together I just thought of that right
01:33:25
now can I can I hot take real quick I would be 30 seconds Apple I don't know if anyone else feels this way when they
01:33:31
released the Adaptive mode they made transparency mode worse cuz transparency
01:33:37
mode used to reduce Noise by more than it does now it feels like to do adaptive
01:33:43
mode they like had to make room pushing it and I like the old transparency mode
01:33:49
was just golden and I was using it all weekend and just like this hurts I wonder if they noticed I don't like it I
01:33:56
I haven't noticed it that much I I see I hayato does this too we both used um the
01:34:02
airpods pro as our earplugs because they're the best in transparency mode they're best high frequenc they are no
01:34:09
longer the best concert your plug in transparency it's loud enough that it hurts your ears and in adaptive you lose
01:34:15
the high end and I was just like that's unfortunate huh give it back I wonder if
01:34:20
the people felt dis oriented when it would just go from Full transparency to like cutting noise like in and out
01:34:26
really quickly so they had to like lower that Gap so transparency mode now still
01:34:31
will cut like frequen abrupt loud noises so not perfectly transparent yeah
01:34:38
interesting but it's it's it's less attenuating than it once was that sucks
01:34:44
cuz I've definitely been to concerts where I'm like my ears hurt so bad and I need something to cut those frequencies
01:34:49
huh who needs hearing you do cuz you're listening to this
01:34:54
podcast trick question yeah so yeah so Google Glass coming soon yeah Google
01:35:00
Glass is way ahead of its time before it gets killed again yeah also rayon story is like you can adapt you could put
01:35:06
regular frames in them but then you have to wear like Rayban style regular glasses all the time which is not
01:35:12
everybody's style and then otherwise you buy them as sunglasses and then you only wear them outside when it's sunny
01:35:18
so you just need like a visor with interchangeable to solve it you just need a wire that
01:35:23
has a little display on the corner and uh you know Google we'll get there sometime in the future yeah or you get a
01:35:29
an implant in your eye replace your eye y' they're testing neuralink on humans
01:35:34
pretty soon okay I you don't need any of this stuff if you got an early this podcast just went full circle that's how
01:35:40
we started this whole we've gone full circle which probably means it's a good time to end it we just complete the loop
01:35:46
perfectly right there yeah I still don't think they make bottles of milk in the United States no there's just bags everywhere thanks for watchings thanks
01:35:53
for listening uh this is the last last step I wrote down one of the answers so I got to cover it up uh trivia
01:36:01
time trivia okay so quick update on the score
01:36:06
because last time no one scored so I had to double check yeah Marquez with nine
01:36:12
Andrew with one two five every year I mean every David
01:36:18
with nine first question yeah Google podcast is going away next year which
01:36:23
was released for Android in 2018 when did Apple first release the Apple
01:36:28
podcast app on
01:36:37
mobile mobile yeah that that part confusing me interesting choice or just
01:36:44
makes it seem like there's an extra part like an iPod like on mobile on mobile
01:36:50
wait it was on an IP iPod first it's just why I think he said mobile cuz it was they still sell iPods I don't know
01:36:58
actually I don't think so uh no they killed the last iPod there's an iPod Touch in like 2018 wasn't the classic
01:37:05
was the last one living they killed the I think it was a classic they re remember they brought the touch out
01:37:11
again it was around when I started working here they did a new iPod Touch yeah and I reviewed it yeah and I was
01:37:17
like why does this exist F them and read I said 2016 I also
01:37:23
said 2016 Marquez what' you say 2004 what you're all wrong okay it 2012 uh oh
01:37:33
wow that's much early dang yeah apple podcast the podcast app on iOS I
01:37:39
remember everyone saying reviews on iTunes for so long well no it was on iTunes since it came out but for mobile
01:37:46
specifically it wasn't until 2012 that they had an app cuz the app didn't come to till later I'm guessing no iTunes you
01:37:53
would syn your podcast in iTunes on your iPod and show up in the music app yeah
01:37:59
what yeah it was like playlists podcasts artist Apple podcast though
01:38:05
came in 2012 as a separate app how would you get the podcasts on Apple podcast they would show through iTunes through
01:38:11
iTunes and they' show up in your music library wow 4G really changed the
01:38:18
world you don't get no point no point all right Alice's question Facebook had a phone at one point it was called the
01:38:24
HTC status but before it was called the HTC HTC status it was called
01:38:32
what the Sony xeria 55 can we know what year it was
01:38:38
2011 interesting question I remember the keynote that
01:38:45
they announced us at do you know what event it was at cuz I have that information in front of me as well no I
01:38:50
remember remember watching it though it was at Mobile World confence
01:38:56
2011 I'm no I'm wrong I just guessed one around flip him and
01:39:01
read oh you two have different ones I must be wrong you different ones I must be wrong I said erison I know I'm wrong
01:39:08
oh I got to be wrong that is wrong wow I said HTC First that is also wrong really
01:39:13
oh wow I said HTC chaa it is the HTC chaa released in certain markets as the
01:39:19
HTC chaaa HC was correct are you kidding me and
01:39:25
then it was chaa it was cha chaa it's just hor name horrible name
01:39:32
chaa you're saying no you're saying it's like HTC if you were to try and say that out loud it would be
01:39:38
like like try saying just like in a in a different market like try to pronounce
01:39:43
that you're just like oh it's the chaaa like what is that t chaa bless you it's
01:39:49
terrible thank you thank you yes anyway terrible name yeah HTC Cha Cha Cha I'm glad my knowledge of that paid off and
01:39:56
with that Marquez takes the lead first double digit points 10 I'm Coming For You 10 club I'm coming back hey double
01:40:02
