00:00:00
we can just say the words PlayStation 5 Pro and the algorithm will just go noted so we should just call the
00:00:07
episode PlayStation 5 Pro review that's actually not the worst
00:00:13
idea I've heard I do that we're 5 Pro review it's
00:00:20
just our podcast wow we'll just say it was a glitch yeah I don't know what happened
00:00:25
we were AB testing and that one [Music]
00:00:33
what is up people of the internet welcome back to another episode of the way for podcast we're your hosts I'm Marquez I'm Andrew and I'm David and
00:00:41
this week we got a few quick hit sort of style Tech news stories I think everyone's aware that there's a whole
00:00:47
bunch of other things happening in the world right now and I think all the tech companies know it too and you know how they like hate being outshined by each
00:00:53
other like one of them announces an event and then the other one's like okay we got to do it the day before or the day after well they're all kind of
00:01:00
playing not get upstage so there's not a whole lot of news this week but we still found a bunch of fun stuff to keep
00:01:06
ourselves distracted and entertained so we're going to do that we're going to jump in uh actually we also have a game
00:01:12
at the end that we're going to play yes thanks to Adam so that should be a good time but first uh at the top of the dock
00:01:18
here we have a couple Vehicles some interesting Vehicles we want to like sort of jump through yeah I'm going to
00:01:23
open this one by the wildest one just tell me about this cuz I I see the the
00:01:29
picture that you put here here but I don't know what's what's happening here all right it's not a new vehicle it is a
00:01:34
prototype vehicle accessory at SEMA which is like kind of the CES of car
00:01:40
shows right like you see a lot of crazy stuff that this prob may not it's same convention center but it is a five
00:01:48
screen accessory for your Toyota Tundra it is a
00:01:53
custom a pickup truck accessory where in the bed of the truck it like comes up
00:01:59
and then five TV screams come out for the ultimate tailgating accessory in
00:02:04
quotes is that what this is yes so it has if you're looking at it directly from the back you'd actually only see
00:02:10
three screens because there's one directly in the bed of the truck and two that fold out to the sides of it almost
00:02:15
like mirrors and then there's two also on the interior so if you're tailgating with this at any angle you can watch the
00:02:23
big game are you I don't know paring lot of the game doing this or are you
00:02:29
nowhere near any of the games watching five of the games uh maybe you're in the parking lot and watching the pregame
00:02:34
show or something else I that's a great question it's a choice I think they just
00:02:40
did this because they had nothing else to show at SEMA and they were like well this is a kind of a TV show right put
00:02:46
the TV in the all right there it is well this is how they're describing it with the push of a button a custombuilt
00:02:52
staging shell rises from the bed of the truck on four electric actuators revealing five 55-in waterproof outdoor
00:02:59
screen screens wow waterproof outdoor displays are usually really expensive as we've
00:03:06
seen on Best Buy they're like way more expensive than regular TVs by a factor of like 20 so this is not cheap actually
00:03:14
did probably not it's probably not even going to come out there's probably no price again this is this is at SEMA this
00:03:20
is a a booth probably where Toyota is showing this off to get attention to people to talk about Toyota and then
00:03:26
that will be the last time we see this yeah also I want to say I think that one of the best things about tailgating is
00:03:33
sitting on the tailgate and you can't really do that with this this is completely filling up the back of the it
00:03:38
also has like four huge JBL speakers on top pointing in all four directions even
00:03:43
the direction none of the TVs are fa it if if they had had like two big screens
00:03:49
just up against the back of the rear window and you could still sit in the tailgate with your beers and watch it I
00:03:54
think that'd be great well you just need another Toyota Tundra that's and that one has five seats in the back of it oh
00:04:02
yeah put tail to tailgate I see yeah okay wild you could do that I
00:04:09
actually have a different vehicle I want I want to talk about briefly um and you can watch the autofocus video if you
00:04:14
want the full breakdown but we did briefly have the rivan r1s Gen 2 here um
00:04:21
I was curious about it because I am personally a rivan r1t first gen owner
00:04:26
and I regularly drive it so I was I saw the second gen gen stuff get announced and I saw some reviews and I wasn't at
00:04:33
any of the like experiences or demos they had so I was just wondering how much of this stuff is really noticeable
00:04:38
there's a whole bunch of stuff they're talking about here o less wiring oh there's a couple new features here and there but how much of this stuff will I
00:04:45
actually notice because I'm not going to buy a second gen I have a first gen already but let me see so they got one in our hands and I actually I put my
00:04:52
list together I reviewed it I lived with it for a week and it turns out there's two main things that I really noticed
00:04:58
about it one is the suspension and the way it drives and the new drivetrains are actually improved uh basically what
00:05:06
they did is so there's we had the triple motor 850 horsepower r1s Gen 2 Triax is
00:05:15
what it's called 370 Mi of range roughly the equivalent power-wise of the first
00:05:22
gen which had quad Motors but what they did is they they split apart the allpurpose and Sport modes a little bit
00:05:29
more so I think if you read old reviews of the first gen rivian a lot of people are saying things like uh ride's a
00:05:34
little harsh uh it's a little bit too tightly sprung and things like that and like other full-size trucks are much
00:05:40
softer and much more uh forgiving to drive so they made the allpurpose mode softer everything's just a little bit
00:05:46
softer the acceleration pedal is a little bit softer the regen is a little softer the suspension is a little softer
00:05:52
but then sport mode is even firmer which is it's actually very firm
00:05:58
for a for a truck for a 7,000lb vehicle it's it's really tightly sprung it can be a little much on regular streets but
00:06:06
that's what they mainly did and that's what I noticed when driving it then the other thing is the cameras are just all
00:06:11
dramatically better which is uh it's a small thing but like the first gen when you put your blinker on and it shows you
00:06:17
the feed of your blind spot and it's like it looks like it's covered in a layer of grease and it's like 240p it's
00:06:23
like okay I can see if there's a car there but I can't really see that well the new ones they're like super crisp HD
00:06:30
like high dynamic range great colors like and by the way they're not just blinker cameras they are the the dash
00:06:36
cam they are the Sentry mode cameras they are very useful cameras so all the cameras being dramatically better I
00:06:41
thought that was great that is something that always surprised me that companies would cheap out on the cameras on these
00:06:47
cars because cameras are pretty cheap now and I know that you just want to make a very small module and whatever
00:06:53
but I'm pretty sure the difference between like a 480p backup camera and a 1080p backup camera is like NE
00:07:00
negligible in cost at this point probably especially for something that's small and especially for something that already cost that much right like what
00:07:07
margin is that coming into it's a small cost that leads to a high quality of life Improvement yeah well I guess when
00:07:13
you're rivan I don't know how much they've changed I mean there's a ton of smaller things they've changed but when
00:07:19
I looked at those cameras in the first gen it doesn't look like they were ever meant to be displayed that big
00:07:24
especially the side view cameras like when I that originally actually it never showed that and then there was software update and then they started showing you
00:07:31
the blind spot cameras and I'm looking at them and I'm like is there something on my cameras it doesn't look like
00:07:36
they're ever meant to be displayed now these new ones are like great yeah so I believe Tesla was able to uh improve the
00:07:43
cameras with a software update which is pretty cool of course yeah image processing can get better but I don't you would never see a difference this
00:07:49
big just from software like they are night and day different which is great so I love seeing that so can I talk
00:07:55
about the interior of this was is this like a special edition one no I me it
00:08:00
did have the the higher end I think it's called the ascent trim I'll double check that but it did have the nice interior
00:08:06
trim do you remember when Ford used to do an Eddie Bower Edition uh Expedition
00:08:12
I think it end an F150 I'm kind of picturing it though so this to me felt like the LL Bean Edition like uh rivan
00:08:19
it's got like this like flannel accents all over the place and like it yeah like
00:08:24
plaid and this it spoke to me sitting inside this was just like I am at home as a
00:08:33
Northeast white podcaster who loves a good IPA this thing was like I'm your
00:08:38
home have a nice look to also the wood trim on this is way better I don't know if it's just cuz it's a different wood
00:08:43
trim but this is like one of the best wood trims for sure yeah yeah interesting I
00:08:49
already love the r1s but this one was even better it so good I'm not really hot on the llbean vibe but I'm happy
00:08:55
that you're happy it's this is me man all right it also has a electrochromic
00:09:01
roof really did the previous one not have that it did not yeah so I find that I find that nice it does it doesn't open
00:09:07
right it's just it's just tins and then untint okay so you can it's either clear or frosted yeah I'm glad a lot more
00:09:13
technology is getting electrochromic stuff yeah seems like shout out to the Snapchat seeing it on the Snapchat
00:09:20
glasses was really sick of just like on off on off or even if you just like looked at the like Windows outside and
00:09:26
watching it just Auto do it was really cool my first experience with electric was in like 2016 in China and I was
00:09:32
staying in this hotel and the shower that's in the bathroom area of the hotel
00:09:37
was like just in the main room so it was like oh you're just going to see naked people but when you go in and you press
00:09:43
a button and it totally tins yeah it gets all foggy mhm so it's not quite it's not like it doesn't get darker it
00:09:50
just gets like it looks foggy you can't really see I've seen yeah I've seen more than one hotel with that yeah it's
00:09:56
becoming more popular it it used to be very expensive but I think it's been coming down in price a lot it's fascinating super cool some of you
00:10:02
freaks are going to leave it clear anyway uh moving we have one more
00:10:07
vehicle actually I don't know how much you want to talk about it but it's the coolest one it's the it's the Lee Auto
00:10:13
Mega is what it's called it's wow how do I describe it it's a it's the shape of a
00:10:18
minivan the ultimate Min I think it looks like the new Prius got stung by a b and is minivan sized it does have a
00:10:26
yeah that Sleek shape to it so yeah it's minivan Siz it's three rows it is made
00:10:31
by a company that does not ship vehicles to the US so you're not going to just see one on the streets unless you saw me driving to the studio today um and it is
00:10:39
very much yeah uh the ultimate minivan I think is a good description of it it's it's full of screens it's full of tech
00:10:46
and features and it kind of seems overloaded like it's got heated massaging seats in the front two rows
00:10:52
it's got a 50 W wireless charger at all four of the front two row seats crazy
00:10:57
it's got huge huge OLED screens in the front it's got a self-aligning HUD
00:11:04
display it's got self-driving it's got uh sensors where you can like do
00:11:09
gestures to move media from the back seat to the front seat screen it's all this insane the auto park was nuts Auto
00:11:15
par it was maybe the best auto park I've ever seen and I've tried a couple different Auto Park systems this one
00:11:21
confidently Auto parked with a bunch of variables it it was it was pretty serious they have a singular l r sensor
00:11:27
on the top of that car so it's probably that mixed with Machine Vision and the ride is just it's called like Magic
00:11:32
Carpet suspension and it is legitimately like you're not you're just like
00:11:37
floating it is on the it's on the level of the I'll say it the Rolls-Royce
00:11:44
Spectre which was maybe like the softest Magic Carpet EV experience and it's also
00:11:50
like really good internal Acoustics so like you drive around in that thing and you basically just feel like you're floating along the road and then you hit
00:11:57
a pothole and it's kind of like and you run over increasingly larger
00:12:02
things and it's just good for New Jersey it's fine totally fine New Jersey it's great for New Jersey I know nothing
00:12:08
about the manufacturer and nothing about how they are overseas so I can't speak to that but as the car that we are
00:12:15
seeing here which is obviously lent to us from the company so take it with the grain of salt that it is it's one of the
00:12:23
most fun inside of a car I've seen since this year probably yeah they got founded
00:12:28
in 2015 so it's still a fairly new company this strikes me as and this is a total shot in the dark but this strikes
00:12:34
me as the Lucid of China it reminds me of the first Lucid that we saw that was
00:12:40
so focused on the back seat experience like these lay down seats this one like
00:12:45
the bucket seats in the back lay down the footrest comes up you can push them all the way back so you have tons of leg
00:12:51
room it's like jetliner seats it's like jet ler yeah and then it has heated and cooled seats with massage and I thought
00:12:57
the interesting thing about the massage was Nor a massaging seat only gets your back this goes like all the way up your
00:13:03
like uh hamstring like to your knee yo I need that it was awesome yeah it feels like Lucid merged with canoe I feel like
00:13:10
that's what it feels like the vi canoe vibe to it yeah it's very cany it's
00:13:16
crazy strange it it really uh compared to the um what is the minivan that we
00:13:21
had for a bit the Chrysler paica no the the re redo of the old oh the Volkswagen
00:13:30
Volkswagen uh yeah I feel like this is so much better it's like not even a competition cuz the Volkswagen buzz eeve
00:13:37
buzz is what called ID Buzz the outside looks cool but the interior is like
00:13:42
really basic it doesn't have a lot going on I think they were Bas they were on that nostalgic like old like the old uh
00:13:51
Vans where like take the seats out and stuff and like super module and everything and I think they were kind of
00:13:56
going for that this was like we are doing our own thing and we doing everything about it totally it's pretty
00:14:02
sick very weird yeah do we want to do the Mac stuff after the break yes like
00:14:08
this thing I'll do I'll do a little teaser uh for audio listeners picture me holding a tiny 5x5 inch computer it's a
00:14:14
desktop you're shocked by how small it is that's after the break that's what it is you are shocked
00:14:21
um but yeah no we we have some mac stuff where actually I've just been using right in front of me you can see the new
00:14:26
Macbook Pro or maybe you couldn't tell cuz looks almost the same the same as mine yeah yeah I've been using the
00:14:32
silver one so now it's space black it's a whole thing now but we're going to get to that after the break but before we do that we should do
00:14:39
trivia trivia dude so we got Marquez
00:14:44
back this week but we lost Ellis Ellis is now homesick today so we're just getting each other SI yeah we just going
00:14:50
around so I'm going to do a have you been sick you were already
00:14:57
sick yeah but it never really went away it just Marquez side of the table it just settled in my chest and never
00:15:03
really went away D perfect so that's why we're getting sick right anyway you're just the Nexus
00:15:08
of TRV question who's out next which of these is not a popular
00:15:15
real EV hybrid car in China an Ellis style question which one of these is not
00:15:21
a real car in China the byd jam the wooing bingo
00:15:29
the aito M7 or the zer1 oh my god I've heard of two of them
00:15:37
yeah I have an idea that's bad I haven't the other two could be easily one all
00:15:42
right yeah I started seeing byd cars in the US recently wait really really I'm trying to remember where I was oh Cal
00:15:49
yeah California huh their cheapest one is like sub 15K right sheesh yeah this was in like I guess around San Diego so
00:15:56
it was like there was tons of EVS already so starting to see bys didn't shock me but it was did it look
00:16:02
potentially like it was a like somebody reviewing it or I couldn't tell I just remember seeing the logo or it might
00:16:07
have been parked actually yeah interesting we'll think about that we'll think about those trivia questions as well answers are going to be at the end
00:16:13
like usual we'll be right [Music]

details all right welcome back let's talk new Macs last week we did get that press release week of new Macs and now
00:17:24
by the end of this week reviews are starting to come out uh including our Mac Mini review which should be by the time this podcast is out so we can talk
00:17:30
about this one this little guy here um basically and I guess I'll spoil the
00:17:36
review a little bit if you haven't seen it yet but three main things are crazy about this Mac Mini one is obvious it's
00:17:43
tiny I'm like holding it in my hand right now it's a 5 in x 5 in x 2 in little rectangular thing nobody was
00:17:50
asking for a smaller Mac Mini but here we are it's like the smallest little thing you've ever seen it's a fullsize desktop computer full M4 and M4 Pro
00:17:57
chips in there crazy how small it is thermals seem to be totally fine I just
00:18:03
it just keeps getting smaller it's crazy it's really cool yeah so that's that I
00:18:08
called it a shrunken Mac Studio cuz the old Mac Mini was more of like a like a it was like flat like a platter this
00:18:14
one's a little it's actually taller than the old Mac Mini it's 2 inches tall but it's it's this makes the Mac Studio look
00:18:21
huge I put this on top of the Mac Studio it makes the Max studio look actually I saw it on Rich's desk and I was like
00:18:27
whoa that thing's gigantic remember that feeling big like it never I was always like oh that's a fairly small Mac the
00:18:33
Mac Studio is already unnecessarily small yeah it's a very powerful computer yeah I love my Mac Studio this thing is
00:18:39
way smaller my best size comparison I have this roll of duct tape oh yeah you kind of nailed that when it
00:18:45
sits on top every corner of duct tape perfectly aligns with the sides of the the Mac
00:18:51
Mini if duct tape had Corners it would be it and then the size up the oh sorry
00:18:57
I'm doing it on the table and no one can the footprint is exactly the same if you were to measure it it's 5 in by 5 5 in
00:19:03
and then it's also exactly 2 in tall in terms of height it is like literally perfect which is crazy I don't know how
00:19:10
you knew that but I well we were just trying to compare it to things and like everyday items and I grabbed this and it
00:19:16
happened to be almost exactly the same true I was trying to relate it to everyday things that everyone would know the size of for the video I duct tape is
00:19:22
in there and yeah a full full size duct tape roll it is there but yeah on the front you have two ports two USBC ports
00:19:28
on the front front those are not Thunderball ports and then you have um the headphone jack and that's it you'll
00:19:34
notice there's no power button yet on the back you have the power plug 1 gig
00:19:40
ethernet by default you can for 100 bucks make it 10 gig I think yeah and then HDMI full size and three
00:19:46
Thunderbolt 4 ports by default on the M4 Pro those become Thunderbolt 5 still no power button you might notice uh on the
00:19:53
top just that little Apple logo still no power button you might notice uh on the sides totally blank this thing is nice
00:19:59
and clean still no power button you've probably noticed at this point I turn it upside down and you see the intake fans
00:20:06
and the power button at the back bottom corner uh so I just you know threw out
00:20:15
the conspiracy theory in the Mac Mini review but I'm sticking by it I think it
00:20:20
is someone's job at Apple to create to come up with with every new design one
00:20:28
obvious not that big a deal but easy to complain about thing to take the heat off of
00:20:33
anything that might go wrong this is the same person that started with the notch in the iPhone
00:20:39
this is the same person that has the port at the bottom of the Magic Mouse instead of anywhere else this is the
00:20:44
same person who might have even started taking the headphone jack away but this person definitely chose to put the power
00:20:49
button on the bottom of the Mac I David and I talked about this last week before we saw it it is not possible to press
00:20:56
this button unless you physically pick it up mhm yeah that's worse than I
00:21:02
thought you could at least like kind of stick your finger under it and press it it's very very small and light and
00:21:08
generally it's not going to be that big of a deal however just like the original Mac mini people build setups around it
00:21:14
right like a lot of people buy these so that they can put like desktop risers over it and stuff and again I'm in the
00:21:21
camp where I'm like I don't think I really need to turn off my computer that often so it's not that big of a deal and if I do need to I'll just like you know
00:21:28
pick up the back a little bit but just a little Annoying it is a little bit annoying it's one of those things that
00:21:33
Apple does sometimes where they're just like form over function it is an objectively bad place to put it the
00:21:40
exact same way the port at the bottom of the Magic Mouse is objectively the worst place to put it but it's probably fine
00:21:47
and not that big a deal cuz it's only you know once a while that you actually use that yeah we're also in one of those
00:21:53
really awkward situations where they have two products out right now and one
00:21:58
is an objectively bad deal compared to the other one because the M4 pro version
00:22:03
of this computer is faster than the M2 Ultra which is what's shipping in the Mac Studio right now uh Mac Studio for
00:22:11
the equivalent spec basically is more than double the price effectively yeah
00:22:17
um you're getting obviously way more cores so if that is something that you
00:22:23
specifically need there's the Mac Studio you're also getting uh the usba ports
00:22:28
full size yeah and that's pretty much it um so it's kind it's kind of this that
00:22:34
awkward situation where we were at when people were still needing to buy Intel Max because compatibility but literally
00:22:42
the only situation that you would buy the Intel Mac is because of compatibility I don't really see a world
00:22:49
where you would buy the Mac Studio over a faster Mac Mini right now unless for
00:22:55
some reason you absolutely needed built-in usba which I don't know why you couldn't just use an adapter or you
00:23:02
absolutely needed a built-in SD card reader which again I don't know why you couldn't just use an adapter yeah so I'm
00:23:08
not really sure if they're going to like discontinue this or just update it they haven't officially announced an M4 Ultra
00:23:15
chipset they got to if they did it would be great because the Mac Studio is also still stuck on M2 Ultra yeah so Mac Mac
00:23:23
Studios overdue so I guess this gets me I'll just finish my opening point which is there's three crazy things about this
00:23:28
Mac Mini first one was size the other two are the base M4 Mac Mini is a great
00:23:34
deal it's $5.99 it's just a base M4 chip they doubled it to 16 gigs of onboard
00:23:40
memory it's got all these ports it's tiny thermals are great performance is great it's like that's a that's a damn
00:23:45
good entry Mac good job yeah the third and final thing is wait a second the
00:23:50
most powerful Mac Mini is the most powerful CPU Mac so far desktop Mac the
00:23:58
desktop Mac yeah because the M4 Pro is the fastest single core performance we've ever seen on any Mac obviously
00:24:04
with M4 or M3 or M2 and then yeah the M4 Pro is benchmarking above M1 Max and is
00:24:13
hitting Ultra levels of CPU and GPU
00:24:19
so uh yeah that the point you're making I think is that the the M2 Maxs are overdue for an upgrade the Mac Pro the
00:24:25
Mac Studio where we're going to hopefully M4 Ultra and get all of those updated sometime soon we don't have that
00:24:32
yet we just have MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro and very weird to me that they didn't do that already yeah so they're
00:24:37
kind of Staggering all these M4 Mac upgrades but yeah as of right now Mac Mini is in a really impressive space
00:24:44
yeah and then as you noted in your review what's very funny about this is that the base model is an extremely good
00:24:50
deal at $599 and then if you have an education discount you get it for $4.99 which is even crazier sick but once you
00:24:56
add the additional SSD storage and you add the ram no longer a great deal you
00:25:03
have almost an entire extra Mac Mini yeah so maybe the ram could be worth it
00:25:10
but honestly there Thunderbolt four ports on the back for the base model just buy an external SSD or an SSD
00:25:17
enclosure and permanently mount it to the back and you'll be fine so much cheaper buy two of them and run them in
00:25:23
SLI and then you get 32 gigs of unified memory that's a name I haven't heard while s yeah these I guess you are
00:25:30
limited in ports you only have three USBC ports so you they're all Thunderbolt on the back so we sorry yeah
00:25:36
three thunderbat on the back and then two USBC on the front it's funny thinking about running like a cal digit onto this knowing it's the same size
00:25:43
pretty much right like to add an extra dock on to this for more IO it's the same size as the actual computer I
00:25:50
understand that this computer is very cheap I am pretty bummed out that the ports on the front are just USB 3
00:25:55
because that's going to be the most common Port that you attach an external SSD to it's going to be hard to get to
00:26:01
the back so it's kind of frustrating here's a question would you rather have
00:26:06
three usb3 ports on the back and two Thunderbolt on the front over the three
00:26:12
Thunderbolt on the front and two USB 3 on the sorry three Thunderbolt on the back and two USB three on the front that
00:26:19
was very confusing wait say it one more time would you okay this has two USB on
00:26:25
the front and three Thunderbolt on the back would you rather would you be okay with losing a thunderbolt Port but
00:26:30
they're on the front and then the back are just three USB cuz that'd be worse that'd be wor you need the you need at
00:26:36
least one on the back to be Thunderbolt so you can connect okay yeah cuz I was going to say
00:26:41
like you'd normally rather plug iio in the back right or if you're they're assuming you'rea using a wireless
00:26:48
keyboard i' probably be okay with one Thunderbolt on the back and then two Thunderbolt on the front yeah at this
00:26:54
moment the front Port is always the most convenient when I plug a th Thunderbolt drive into my Mac Pro which is also the
00:27:00
same situation I get an error message that it says you can't plug in this Thunderbolt accessory into this port and I have to unplug it and plug it in the
00:27:06
back with the Thunderbolt ports so people are going to get that message if they try to plug like a fast SSD into the front it's going be like this not
00:27:13
not the port for this right plug it in the back yeah as I'm looking at this can I have a lowkey conspiracy theory on why
00:27:18
they didn't do that I'm all for it because then they would have to put the Thunderbolt logo on the front and that would kill the aesthetic of it being
00:27:24
cleaned like this that's a great question are there any Mac Studios with Thunderbolt the front no I don't think I
00:27:29
don't think even the ultra does oh okay so they I me the ultra they don't want the logo on the front my God yeah cuz
00:27:35
the ultra of the Mac Mini is also non Thunderbolt that's really sad oh there is no Ultra it's just Pro sorry not Ultra the Mac Mini none of them are
00:27:42
thunder yeah so that is a little disappointing it's going to be harder to get to the back ports and for people
00:27:48
that are like photographers that need to use external ssds a lot to transfer files quickly yeah it's going to be very
00:27:55
annoying to get I think that that is more annoying than the power button being on the bottom so I think that is my theory about Apple's price ladders is
00:28:03
even though it is actually totally capable chip wise performance-wise of being like the photographer's computer
00:28:09
or like the light editor's computer is not meant to be it's still just the
00:28:14
entry Mac for like a casual like the think about the M4 iMac which is just
00:28:20
1,200 bucks obviously it's not cheap but it's like a very casual Baseline computer to just get a
00:28:26
computer so you're saying like this is is the this is the M4 iMac of this is
00:28:31
the Bas on computer where you want your own monitor you don't want the iMac cuz like I would call the iMac the Baseline
00:28:37
the iMac is the Baseline but it's $1,200 to start and if you have a computer yeah 1,300 bucks so if you have a a monitor
00:28:43
already you just like all right I'm going to get a Mac I'll get the $500 $600 Mac Mini and that's plenty of
00:28:49
computer for every casual thing you're were going to do on I could see this this is perfect for the like I have a
00:28:55
friend who does like software engineering and he has just a Mac Mini and his gaming PC hooked up to the same
00:29:01
monitors and just swap so this is great to just like use a KVM switch Yeah and just like code on this if you'd prefer
00:29:07
to do that on Mac and then switch over to your computer on the same monitor the
00:29:12
second you were going to be the photographer thinking about how many ports do I need or how many external drives am I going to plug in or anything
00:29:17
like that they walk you right up to the Mac Studio because you start to think about like oh M4 Pro or how much more am
00:29:23
I going to spend but it's stud but the Mac Studio also has regular USB 3 ports
00:29:29
but it has usba a it has way more ports yeah and even though you're not one extra C Port though on the back and then
00:29:36
two usba it's not that many more PS oh it has a bunch of usba I thought it only has two oh well I've used both of mine
00:29:43
so it has four Thunderbolt and two usba that's a big difference that's one extra port for one Thunderbolt and two usba
00:29:51
three extra ports well sure you know I don't know splitter I don't know I just
00:29:56
I just feel like that's I wouldn't buy that for twice the price for three extra ports you know well you say that and
00:30:03
that makes perfect logical sense but if you walk up the rungs of the ladder one by one you so you kind of end up there
00:30:09
faster than you think like the base Mac Studio as you see is uh $2,000 right now
00:30:14
it was M2 Pro it's like so much slower it's M2 Max sorry yes so it's a better
00:30:21
GPU or almost as good well it should be better but it's not but it's M2 Max it's
00:30:27
I think we all it's not a great deal right now cuz we want M4 stuff in there but yeah you for that price will get all
00:30:33
the extra ports you'll get hopefully soon M4 Max and then it's actually buy
00:30:38
like a cal digit and hook it up to one of the USBC ports on the back a cal digit is like what $500 or something the
00:30:45
same that's ex that's yeah you're getting right up to yeah next Studio I don't know so anyway that's I think
00:30:51
we're in a weird place because Mac's Apple's lineup is not fully updated to M4 which is why this like weird Arison
00:30:58
kind of makes sense but I think hopefully soon Mac Studio gets M4 Mac
00:31:04
Pro gets M4 yeah and then everything is on uh tiered to me it feels like Apple
00:31:10
only sees the front ports as a way to like charge the magic keyboard and the Magic Mouse that's kind of mostly what I
00:31:16
do with in all of their press stuff they just show it like having the um PlayStation controller plugged into it
00:31:22
or the teenage engineering thing plugged into it but they don't actually show anything transferring data just charging
00:31:29
never substantial data so yeah that's interesting D that's a good point I didn't even think of that yeah we should
00:31:35
talk about the MacBook Pro yeah okay that that's the last thing we got here which is this is the new M4 generation
00:31:42
MacBook Pro um jeez I haven't upgraded my
00:31:47
MacBook Pro in three years we were just talking about this before I was 28 years old when I got my my M1 Max yeah I was
00:31:55
just a child um and I've been using it sense and I haven't really been tempted by any of the upgrades from M1 to M2 was
00:32:01
silly M1 to M3 don't really need it M4 ult M4 Max comes out and M4 Pro these
00:32:07
new laptops now they're starting to stack the improvements on top of each
00:32:12
other over the M1 generation not that I need some performance Improvement but they also did a couple little things one
00:32:19
uh Thunderbolt 5 so faster IO for those ssds for those big projects two there's
00:32:25
a nanotexture option on the display interesting very interesting that that's
00:32:30
this is it you've you've seen it it's pretty sake looking yeah uh I have thoughts on it and then three it is
00:32:36
space black and the first one isn't so it's just kind of like a bunch of little things now stacking up on top so this is
00:32:43
the first one I've at least thought about MH switching from my 3-year-old M1
00:32:49
Max to this uh brand new M4 Max um we are still mid- review process
00:32:55
on that so I don't have an answer yet I will say it's a great laptop it's very expensive but it is very performant it
00:33:02
is uh on our export test basically twice as fast as my laptop on like major
00:33:08
multi-threaded apps which is awesome so I'm I'm liking this laptop a lot so far
00:33:13
yeah it's pretty good I think every single year up until now people have been like the performance improvements are like 20% little bumps but the M1
00:33:22
generation jump was so big from Intel in general both in thermals as well as
00:33:27
performance that people are just like why would I ever need this and I continue to believe that generally if
00:33:32
you had an M1 Max I I bought an M1 Max when it first came out I don't plan on upgrading because I'm like yes it's
00:33:38
faster but it's already so good that until it's like really really really
00:33:43
good or my computer just dies yeah you have we we have like years left on our lapop lives you can get like six to
00:33:49
seven years out of these computers um the things that I'm really excited about the Thunderbolt 5 I think is going to be
00:33:55
huge uh that's only in the Pro of the Mac Mini but it is on these laptops
00:34:02
which is awesome on all the ports which is super cool it's nice to see apple adopting a new standard technology early
00:34:10
they obviously did adopt USBC really early in some ways in some ways some parts yeah pieces of it yeah but uh
00:34:18
Thunderbolt 5 the spec only came out like a year ago and there's only like a razor laptop out right now that has it so it's kind of cool seeing them uh push
00:34:24
that out so hopefully more ssds come out with it uh I think the nanotexture display is
00:34:30
looks very very good it's $150 extra on these Compu it looks so good though you opened it up and we were all looking at
00:34:36
it I was like blown away yeah yeah yeah we had like a long conversation about it yesterday I'm kind of torn on it I think
00:34:44
it looks phenomenal and that's because I took it out the box and it's been 2 days and it doesn't have any fingerprints or
00:34:49
anything on it yet and it looks so good just never touch it yeah just don't ever have anyone ever touch it with anything
00:34:56
um what I'm C ious about is I've had the nanotexture pro display xdr for years now and those things do not wear well
00:35:02
like if anything touches it if any dust touches it if you use any polishing cloth that's not the apple one it is
00:35:08
super easy to get like marks on it and like to have it permanently scuffed and just start looking kind of rough yeah um
00:35:14
which we kind of learned in real time like some of ours look great still some of ours look looking kind of like fingerprint which is bad M bab and mine
00:35:22
is at this point I'm like I guess I'll have to start touching it with my hands and figuring it out because I don't want
00:35:28
to recommend people buy a nanotexture laptop or a nanotexture uh iMac but
00:35:35
isn't there also a nanotexture iPad like how's that one doing I want to see like how these different nanotexture displays
00:35:41
are aging over time to determine if I want to recommend them or not because yeah like I said it looks phenomenal now
00:35:46
it's even a little bit brighter underneath this Nano texture I think it's a th000 nits standard SDR Max
00:35:51
brightness instead of 600 um and also the battery even though it's the same size M4 is giving it an extra hour or
00:35:58
two like a a bunch of little things but yeah Nano texture I'm not sure how it's going to age but it looks incredible
00:36:04
right now it looks incredible right now yeah I feel like if you're working in cafes a lot near windows and stuff it's
00:36:09
going to be a huge benefit yeah or on airplanes this is my airplane editing laptop which is why I'm like this is
00:36:15
maybe great it makes perfect sense on a laptop in terms of glare because you always have more opportunity for glare
00:36:21
something that's mobile but it also does and you know maybe we're just not the best at cleaning them correctly maybe
00:36:27
you have to wipe a smudge immediately but like we both looked at our monitors and they're not great and then you think of something that you have the potential
00:36:34
of touching every single time you open or shut it is just asking for smudge
00:36:40
City the pro display xdr was also the first product they shipped with Nano texture and I wonder if they've improved
00:36:46
it since it came out years ago cuz it's been a long time other changes that are awesome love that they added an
00:36:52
additional USB port on the lowest end 14in because originally the regular
00:36:57
lowest and 14in had one less USBC Port which is cool so glad they added that
00:37:03
and then 16in they base it at uh 24 GB
00:37:08
of RAM now which is awesome they jacked that up oh and it goes up to something crazy isn't it 128 now uh I think it's
00:37:16
128 Max now is it really yeah because I had the oh 128 jeez yeah so it goes
00:37:22
crazy a lot of memory cool, yeah upgrade no one said it would be cheap definitely
00:37:27
will not be cheap yeah but yeah these laptops also why is this the marketing for it hold on Apple intelligence is
00:37:33
here oh yeah everywhere it's also every you have it it says hello Apple
00:37:40
intelligence it doesn't say it's here yeah so you can say hi to it but it's Tech it is out now technically if you
00:37:46
UPA it's on my M1 Max laptop the official build is out but the only things it really does is like the
00:37:52
writing tools and if that's really what you want out of apple intelligence then like good for you you won't need I think
00:37:58
everyone's waiting for the Siri upgrades that aren't coming until like March of next year I think they're slated for
00:38:04
spring so that's kind of crazy I'm waiting for that till I review Apple intelligence yeah it's going to be like
00:38:09
three more months or something yeah we'll see but I think that these are really really incredible machines and if
00:38:14
you didn't buy an M1 or an M2 or an M3 these are pretty good pickups so I have a question I just touch should I
00:38:22
just how do I figure this out how do I figure out how well it ages do I just start going crazy touching um I think I
00:38:28
have to it depends how long you're planning on using it for do you have like a niece or a nephew no cuz they
00:38:34
would just I was going to say just let them use it for like a week and that's like a year of wear and tear I mean I
00:38:39
I'm going to use it for a few more days for this review and then start putting the review together I think in the next few days I got to figure out if I got to
00:38:45
review this that's fair um just uh you don't want to just touch it live on the Pod can you wait till we get b-roll of
00:38:50
it yeah yeah yeah yeah you're right I mean there's a little you send V and Brandon off a
00:38:56
cliff yeah it's not coming off see I don't know dang I don't know man also that poor
00:39:01
soul that has to update the compatibility list of the Apple the
00:39:07
every year when someone on Twitter goes it hasn't been updated somebody logs in and like changes the updates yeah good
00:39:13
job yeah you did it wow so that's about it we also had obviously the IMAX um but
00:39:19
that's there's nothing new besides they now also come with the M4 and the
00:39:25
nanotexture option yeah but the nanotexture option on those are $200 instead of 150 so is it like based on
00:39:32
screen size I guess it's based on screen size but then the 32 in Pro display xdr being $1,000 is out of control but it's
00:39:40
been years since they first started shipping that so it's probably way more expensive to add' gotten better at because the iPad nanotexture is like
00:39:46
hundred extra dollars maybe I think it's a 100 bucks got it okay yeah and it only comes with a one terab and 2 terab
00:39:52
models right which to me was a sign that they didn't want it to be it's either a sign that they don't want it to be on
00:39:58
everyone's iPads or a sign that you should pay more to get the one tbte just
00:40:04
to get the Nano texture it's just to walk you up the ladder one or the other yeah there's definitely that I also think that they think that digital
00:40:10
artists are going to be the ones that want it the most and they need more storage but which is fair Al they don't
00:40:16
need more storage you're forcing them to have more storage exactly so all right we're going to wrap this section up with
00:40:22
uh a little it's not a game as much as it's thought experience yeah no
00:40:27
I don't know it's a question I'm posing out because there's not a lot that happens you guys can play along at home CU I'm sure you're going to have your
00:40:33
own answers to this but the theme of this question that we're all thinking about is what is an app that you use all
00:40:41
the time and like to use but is actually a bad app and I thought about this a little
00:40:48
bit I I have a couple answers actually um at least a lot of these are gonna
00:40:53
wind up being super Niche but I'm hoping that the listeners out there when they hear it they'll feel seen in mine is not
00:41:00
Niche at all it's not Niche good that's better and more people can relate start it off yeah start us off the Google
00:41:05
messages app what H I love that app really I also use that app all the time
00:41:12
why don't you like what is bad about besides them turning feature flags on and off constantly more so when I open it up
00:41:18
it's just text messages from people I know some that I don't uh random spam
00:41:24
numbers that don't get blocked because it does a good job of like separ the spam into like its own little spam and
00:41:29
archive section but more than a few get through and just end up in my inbox same
00:41:34
what like I'm looking at one right now that has an exclamation point next to it already and it's like hi I'm Sarah a
00:41:39
recruiter like why did that not just like it is weird when it like makes it into your main inbox but is basically
00:41:45
saying it's spam while it's in there like yeah like it is I guess it's not a bad app functionally I just wish it was
00:41:53
like a cleaner experience like if there was folders where I could just like be in in one section that is only people in
00:41:58
my contexts all the messages are there okay I have a question okay so didn't they or aren't they going to start
00:42:06
adding different categories that you can jump between that's what I'm hoping I think that that might be something
00:42:11
they're working on yeah I believe so I just find that very funny because just like we talked about the AR glasses and
00:42:17
VR headsets crashing into each other and trying to become the same thing email and texting is crashing into each other
00:42:23
trying to be the same it's like let's make the texting app just like email the closest analogy I could find to what I
00:42:28
would want unfortunately is just email it's faster email just give me like
00:42:33
better filter options I guess like so I can go into the section of numbers I don't know like it does a good job of
00:42:39
auto deleting the the onetime password text messages that you get like there's a feature for that does that now but
00:42:45
just give me like one step more I think the pixel does it a little bit better right doesn't it have better spam
00:42:50
filtering on Google messages I get a ton of spam I don't know oh it might
00:42:56
interesting yeah okay at least up until this election week I've got it I do find it funny though because I
00:43:03
kind of hate the way the email is formatted like it's a very old system that feels like it could really be
00:43:09
streamlined there's always these truncated messages and sometimes Parts appear and disappear and it's like
00:43:14
texting is so much simpler can we interest you in notion mail no God are
00:43:20
you on the waight list still I'm still on the weight list because my app that I hate on mobile is no
00:43:28
holy cow can you okay damn a good I don't know how many people use notion
00:43:36
that listen to this podcast it is now a fairly popular productivity app the mobile app experience for this is just
00:43:42
like what if you took a desktop computer Excel spreadsheet and put it on your
00:43:48
phone whack except you couldn't see anything whack you hit a notification to jump to a certain task that you're in
00:43:54
but you have no idea what even project that is it I was say can we all name our least favorite thing about the notion
00:44:00
app it's that it's that and it's also when I try to move things around when I
00:44:07
try to reorder things in a like a tabed list and I try to grab the handle and
00:44:12
then I grab I end up selecting the text so I have to like unselect the text and like hide the keyboard and I try to grab the handle again and then move it and
00:44:18
then the whole thing moves and now I'm moving it to the wrong place yeah moving things I just want to say on a foldable device not a problem yeah because
00:44:26
because the notion app just feels like it's a desktop app but there's not enough screen space for you to see
00:44:32
anything the main reason the thing David's talking about is like if you get tagged in a specific uh like task so
00:44:40
let's just say podcast at uh like uh
00:44:46
podcast clip thumbnail all right so we're like a couple deep the way we have
00:44:51
it is we have the waveform uh category then we have episode 258 and then within
00:44:57
that are a bunch of subtasks so that would be like in the waveform episode
00:45:05
258 post production clip three thumbnail right so as I get the notification for
00:45:12
that all I can see is clip 3 thumbnail and waveform podcast and three dots in
00:45:18
between like and then if I want to see where that is in there because when we're doing things you have to back out
00:45:24
and it's basically just find I mean you can't like get see where that sub that
00:45:30
folder uh like uh timeline is going yeah and the notifications that you get is
00:45:35
like marz updated property script markz updated property and research testing I click on that research testing that is a
00:45:42
default that we have for every video that we ever do a bunch of that task but in different projects and you don't know
00:45:48
which project you're in right you have no idea which project you're in once I'm in that you can hit the back button next to research testing it just brings you
00:45:55
back to your inbox to home do not understand I feel like there are like two to three ways that people's brains
00:46:00
work and mine just doesn't work like this why is that not a drop down menu on the top I don't know just like research
00:46:07
research and then you Dr and it's just in order in chronological order of what subfilter you're in and you just climb
00:46:12
up and it's crazy because it seems like there are so many people that are so into notion like people have a lot of
00:46:18
great yeah like the desktop app is pretty good if you were using air table before notion it's like 10 years ahead
00:46:23
of what air table used to be cuz air table is just Excel on on the internet and it's really bad I don't get it but
00:46:31
yeah the the app for notion guys come on just you don't have to make it look and work exactly the same as the web app it
00:46:37
just has to do the same things sounds like a skill isue I think we all agree mobile is pretty brutal if you have a
00:46:43
foldable you're in the elite club but for us plebs that are using our bricks
00:46:48
we just got to carry one of these around everywhere we can always have notion uh okay yeah fully on board uh with that I
00:46:55
like that one what did I write down I have three at notion please fix thanks
00:47:00
oh okay I have a category of apps okay banking apps every um
00:47:06
every in every smart home accessory has its own app that you have to like log
00:47:12
into to connect to it and I use the Google home app so then what I'll do is I'll open Google home and then I'll go
00:47:18
to like ingest that new smart home thing like I have an August Smart Lock so I have to download the August app and then
00:47:24
log in and then connect the lock and then I'll go to Google home and then import my August account and then bring
00:47:30
that lock into Google home but then the August app just kind of sits on my phone and sucks you still have to have it I
00:47:36
don't think so but if it ever stops working in Google home then I would have to go redownload it reinstall set it up
00:47:43
again like I just have I just leave it on my phone I would like to introduce you to the matter protocol oh man is
00:47:48
this going to save me cuz at this point I have a bunch I have a Mir Ros app I have a bunch of
00:47:54
random Outlet apps matter allow you to manipulate those apps within just the
00:47:59
Google home app no no that you can do that but you can only do the like the very basic functions of like onoff
00:48:05
unlock lock like if I still have like I have like Mark has like four different types of lights or like smart plug so
00:48:13
like miros in Brighton um I don't even know what else I have on
00:48:18
here yeah those are all be in the Google home app and I can use through voice commands on my Google homes or like can
00:48:25
turn on off but if I want to like set a schedule timer for them that I have to do inside the app or if I or if it gets
00:48:32
disconnected and I have to reconnect it I have to have that app to reconnect it right I am going to make an analogy okay
00:48:38
I think that smart home apps are very similar to charging apps for ccs-based
00:48:44
cars 100% because there are a lot of options in the ecosystem because it's a
00:48:50
standard and so everyone wants in on it but nobody actually commits to like making the interface good so all that
00:48:56
CCS charge based apps are also terrible but it's the same thing occasionally the
00:49:02
car manufacturer will try to make their app the hub for all of the charging networks like Ford so like the Ford Pass
00:49:09
App will include the logins and accounts of a bunch of those but even that is
00:49:15
like never just finicky and yeah no I agree with you on the smart home stuff it's it's not good it's pretty matter is
00:49:21
trying to fix this and it's a slow burn I don't know if it ever will though because it's it's just the connectivity
00:49:28
aspect of it and it's not going to be able to change the control with matter will I be able to set up a August smart
00:49:34
loock without ever downloading the August app yes yes in Google home in Google home there's a uh connect to a
00:49:41
matter enabled device button and you scan a QR code on the product and you don't have to use the August app at all
00:49:47
that sounds great you just do everything through Google home I'm officially a huge matter fan whatever I got to do to
00:49:53
help this out I would love to I still wonder where though like cuz like I
00:49:58
can't set a schedule for the smart plug that I have of like turn on 5:00 turn
00:50:04
off 5 for Mir Ros through the Google home app yeah I think maybe not maybe I
00:50:11
don't know I still feel I can't right you have to do it in a Mir Ros app matter is slow growing and still
00:50:18
not a ton of devices have it um I feel like the ultimate issue with it will be is that because of so many different
00:50:24
companies are still making the things for matter like they're going to incentivize you to download the app yeah I do not have scheduling ability that's
00:50:31
fun yeah yeah also just the way that Home Smart Home systems work in general
00:50:38
like sometimes I can tell it to turn on all of my lights and it just doesn't work and then I'll manually turn
00:50:44
everything on and then five minutes later everything just like turns off because it's it's like what is there a
00:50:50
queue in my internet system that is just like backed up for 5 minutes like I don't really know what's going on but I
00:50:56
had also set up some routines through the Google app where it would do a couple things in succession yeah and
00:51:02
then one by one they would just break so I'd say I'd have a thing where I say good morning and it's supposed to like turn the lights on open the shades tell
00:51:08
me the weather and like look up the news and then one by one it would like I'd say good morning it would be like sorry
00:51:13
I can't do that but then do the other three things and then it would say sorry I can't do that sorry I can't do that
00:51:19
and then just do two of the things it would just start breaking yeah so that's about right I do want to do like a state of matter episode because we had a
00:51:26
matter episode a while ago and it's been quite a while to see if anything's actually better has it been it's a year
00:51:33
yeah that's matter bab year does what does matter baby work yet matter baby
00:51:38
yeah what is that what is what matter baby what it didn't work I I thought I
00:51:43
could get you what the matter baby nothing man nothing at all I thought I would try a dad joke it didn't work
00:51:50
pretty good leave them to me yeah it would have worked if you did it Andrew what's yours I I'm realizing that like
00:51:57
there are all these apps that I don't use very often but they all have very specific things that annoy me do you know what I'm going to say on this one
00:52:02
that's a good one the Orbee app yeah all right it it's a a router Network okay
00:52:09
the internet speed test button doesn't test the speed of what you're
00:52:15
downloading from the actual router it tests the speed of the internet
00:52:20
connection directly plugged into the your house so every time I test my speed I'm getting like 800 down because all
00:52:26
it's testing is the speed that it's getting into the main router it's just your router going yep I'm still down
00:52:32
like that's not what I was asking I'm like sitting on the opposite side of my house like wow YouTube's being really slow is it a problem with YouTube or am
00:52:39
I getting a really poor connection over here do I have to change the mesh Network and it's like no man you got 900 down it's like I definitely do not I
00:52:46
also recently added a satellite and I didn't remember the user I had a
00:52:51
different phone I didn't remember the username and password login have you ever forgotten your username and password to Orbee I don't believe so do
00:52:57
not forget these are my favorite nightmare because you have to go into this web
00:53:03
portal and then like find this info on the bottom of the router and that's the temporary password to log in to like
00:53:09
reset the admin password to finally like log back in the app it is a disaster I I
00:53:15
I wouldn't wish forgetting that password on anyone but and then you actually add the satellite and it goes through this
00:53:21
whole thing it says like there's like nine different steps of like what it's doing and you just can't do any
00:53:26
while it's working end you're like I guess it to give it credit it tries to
00:53:33
like Auto manage things so I put this new satellite in and then a bunch of devices started connecting to it because they were close to it but it didn't
00:53:39
really let me for those wondering a satellite is like a mesh uh network node that it extends the network it's I would
00:53:45
argue that the majority of problems that come from a home wi-fi system is what it tries to automatically do things for you
00:53:52
instead of you getting to for sure I mean that's the whole reason that new Wi-Fi uh routers now have dedicated
00:53:58
smart home networks on them because a lot of smart home stuff only works on 2.4 GHz but a lot of the intelligent
00:54:05
switching will switch between 2.4 and 5 GHz depending on traffic load and it'll just break smart home because they just
00:54:11
don't work on 5 gz straight up the majority of my chomecast issues have always been from like oh you're
00:54:17
connecting to to the like satellite that is 150 ft further than the the regular
00:54:24
router that is right here on 2.5 it's it's crazy I have one other small one and I
00:54:30
I've tried this with Marquez already but this is called hatch it is a white noise machine for Lane it is arguably the most
00:54:38
popular white noise machine for like nurseries I just want you to try and change the volume on it that's the hatch
00:54:45
so you can click that I already got you into that I want you to find the volume
00:54:50
change does it look nice it looks fine it's like blue it's like rainy
00:54:56
it's just not intuitive like you changing the volume should be like one of the EAS should be one of the most
00:55:02
basic is home with my in-laws right now and I'm praying she's not sleeping so if David accidentally rips this thing
00:55:09
volume I will also say the dev app is similar so like right now David's on on
00:55:15
the screen it says touch ring and there are like three main kind of things you
00:55:21
can do which is essentially changing the different types of white noise that'll play so there's like like sleep rain
00:55:28
what's the other one ocean so those are all there you can select those and pick which noise you
00:55:34
want all right and now he's clicking the little hamburger menu on the side trying the volume buttons that's not it nope I
00:55:42
literally trying to scroll it's not scrolling anywhere cuz it's only one page it's only one page I don't does it
00:55:48
have a volume it does it has a volume I found it yep Oh wow it is like that's
00:55:53
doesn't that doesn't look like a button it's this like like 10 pixel tall little thing almost like in Spotify where
00:56:00
you're if a song's playing on the bottom except the background of the button is the exact same color as the rest of the
00:56:06
screen so just doesn't look like a button at all this is how you you have to click white noise and then you have
00:56:11
to the volume but literally everywhere else just wow it is super unintuitive one one night I was home with Lane and
00:56:18
cla's like oh I always just turn the hatch down a little bit after like she goes to sleep and I it probably took me
00:56:23
20 minutes to turn the volume down was she doing this so yeah that's
00:56:30
extremely frustrating that's a good one do we want to also talk about apps that are surprisingly good even if they're
00:56:38
very simple I'll do that we can be positive sure yeah why not okay so I
00:56:44
have this app for my apartment building called Butterfly MX it's for so okay yes
00:56:51
it's just for your building it's just for my building so is it like a white label app that like the building signs up for or something uh I don't know if
00:56:58
I'd consider it white label it's a it's a lock company that it's like a smart lock system for apartment buildings so
00:57:05
they have a little touchcreen outside and you have there's an app for it and you can use it and the thing I really
00:57:13
like about it is the ux is like insanely simple but it is insanely consistent
00:57:20
like it always works the only time I have trouble with it is when I'm literally standing right in front of my
00:57:26
apartment and because my phone is like trying to connect to my Wi-Fi network it can't really do it so I just turn the
00:57:31
Wi-Fi network off and it works you just literally slide to unlock it unlocks the front door of the apartment building
00:57:37
it's super simple you can create there's it's so simple it literally looks like they coded this in a day like it's not
00:57:43
very like super minimal but you can create virtual keys and you just put in
00:57:49
like the name of the key how long you want it to last if it's recurring oh that just reminded me of a terrible one
00:57:56
so you can create you can create like a virtual key that you then text to someone and you say it lasts for this
00:58:03
amount of time and it gives them a QR code and also a pin so when they go outside your building they can either
00:58:08
just scan the QR code or put in the pin always works uh it has a video doorbell
00:58:14
so they can like ring me and it rings my phone and I can either answer with video or not I just love that it's like the
00:58:21
app literally looks like it was coded in one day the UI on that looks better than every single smart home this isct I own
00:58:28
like sometimes you just need functionality and you don't need it to be pretty and I'm fine with that for this app and it is surprisingly very
00:58:35
very good so shout out to Butterfly MX nice yeah you have a bad one the bad one
00:58:41
uh so when I upgraded to the new Google home stuff I it was with the goal of
00:58:46
getting rid of the nest app from my phone entirely cuz that thing sucks so I have the new I have the new thermostats
00:58:51
I could finally get rid of Nest but I realized I have one more thing which is the Nest Yale Smart Lock on my like back
00:58:59
door which is supposed to have all those features like I can make a virtual key I can make a onetime password so if
00:59:05
someone's visiting I can give them the passcode that only works one time and then someone else tries it won't work
00:59:10
all these nice features are supposed to have but now that I don't have the nest app it's literally not connected to my
00:59:17
smart home ecosystem at all oh so it just has the one passcode it's always
00:59:22
had and I can't remotely open or close it I can't do anything with any of those
00:59:27
features it's just you can't open you can't unlock it from your Google home app nope wait really yeah is in the nest
00:59:35
app damn unfortunate oh I use a yui one I can do that but I do need the app
00:59:40
which kind of sucks but does the nest app still exist or is it just gole home now I mean there are still things that
00:59:47
exist in the nest ecosystem that are like mostly functional in the nest app
00:59:53
and like kind of also work in Google home but are mostly in Nest that was like what the old thermostats are doing and the old sensors and all that which
00:59:58
is why I got rid of them but yeah I mean it still exists it's just not good I want to say my one request for butterfly
01:00:05
MX is they have an Apple Watch and like a I'm pretty sure they have a it's not
01:00:10
Android Wear Google app uh and that's great but I
01:00:16
don't wear swart matches they don't have a widget and I would really like a widget on my phone so that I could just
01:00:23
tap unlock and it would unlock my front door I have to open the app and Slide the swipe to unlock so many specific
01:00:29
apps that could if there was a widget for one button I would be the my like Subaru app to just heat my car up pull
01:00:36
my car up like if I just had a widget which just one thing just like I want to heat it up go jealous dude the sub one
01:00:43
is like put your fingerprint in wait hit hit heat oh you sure you want these settings yep okay all right sending to
01:00:49
card it takes so long I will admit they have a like a long press actions and you
01:00:56
can hit unlock front door so that's nice but I just want it to be a button like my lights I feel like that would be nice
01:01:03
so yeah Andrew favorite app favorite app or app that's like really good even if
01:01:09
it posi yeah there's an app called udisk which is a disc golf app it's like a disc golf scorekeeper okay um it is it's
01:01:18
just really really good they put a ton of time into it it is like the default for tracking your score on the course um
01:01:26
there's I think they do a great job by having a pro version that's $30 a year which is like expensive but if you're
01:01:32
playing once a week that seems like a really reasonable price to ask for when disc golf is so cheap in general is it
01:01:39
useful if you like get an ace by any chance I mean you can put down you got a
01:01:44
ace um um but like it's just really well done the pro version gives you some
01:01:51
extra functionality like I can track my score on my watch uh like I can just input everything on my watch I don't even have to take it off but it's great
01:01:57
at just being like the hole you're going to is this way the next where you're shooting for is this far away you can
01:02:02
track each individual shot you can share like your different scores the pro version for but you can do almost all of
01:02:10
this for free it just like will only let you see your last 10 Rounds which I think is super reasonable in a free app
01:02:17
um they just do a great job and it's almost like you need it in order to play disc gol but I'm glad they actually do a
01:02:23
good job with it so shout out you dis aome that's good I have a couple random apps that are like not worth shouting
01:02:28
out but there's uh the NYC fairy app very cons that's such a good app fire
01:02:35
app it's rated like 4.9 on the on the App Store transit app wait there's also I
01:02:42
take it all the time there's also the if you get enough parking tickets the it's
01:02:48
also so good wait wait wait yes what pay or dispute dude it's so okay this is the
01:02:53
craziest it is also rated like 4 8 stars on is so fun all you're doing is paying
01:02:59
par you just p and it's it's also one of those apps that is like it's so archaic
01:03:05
and it looks so old but you just put in your license plate number it just shows
01:03:10
you the tickets you have you can pay you can pay with Veno you have a shortcut for this no it's my recent installed app
01:03:16
okay you can pay with venmo so you pay or dispute and you're like all right I have a ticket I want to pay I will scan
01:03:22
the barcode on the ticket or put the license plate number which is here or the ticket number you put that in and
01:03:28
then you can pay with venmo or what you a credit card I would kill for my dentist to have this they mail me a
01:03:34
letter every time I have to pay for the dentist wow every time I leave I'm like can I pay and they're like no you're good I was like but please I don't want
01:03:41
you totally forgot how good the parking ticket app is it's so old looking like
01:03:46
it's everything's square and everything's just like a Target you know and Android Studio one more thing that
01:03:52
just reminded me of I was just in Greenwich Connecticut and I guess this whole neighborhood has like this like parking meter system where they all use
01:03:59
the same app and I scanned it and just used the web portal but the dude I was with had the app on his phone and there
01:04:04
was a a live activity showing how exact a live countdown of how much longer he
01:04:09
had to par and it would count down in real time the parking expired I thought that was pretty cool they have that in
01:04:15
San Francisco too and you can just you can pay for more time in the app you don't have to run back to your car and
01:04:21
add more time you remely open your phone you're like oh I got 30 seconds left you just add it you're good dope it was
01:04:26
crazy very cool all right we should do you have one Adam yeah oh do you have a good app I have a good and a bad one hit
01:04:32
me and they're related okay so the bad one notion and notion
01:04:37
mail the bad one is good reads which Amazon bought it's an app that you use
01:04:42
to like track your reading and stuff like that it's fine it just hasn't been updated in forever yeah and the good one
01:04:49
is an alternative called the story graph which is actually really nice it's a small team of people that are working on it and the thing that I like that they
01:04:56
do that good reads does not is you get all these like cool graphs and statistics about your reading patterns
01:05:02
and everything like that the only problem is there are way less people on the story graph so it's annoying because
01:05:08
you can't see like what your friends are up to what are they reading blah blah blah I've been trying to get people in my life on story graph so this is my
01:05:14
last plea for everyone to join story graph so we can just like have a good reading app instead of you being forced
01:05:20
to use good reads this is the the classic social graph problem yep it is yeah true but that was it dang all right
01:05:27
I would join you if I read it counts audio books I can't read oh yeah okay well I think we should take
01:05:35
it to trivia part two extravaganza the triv triv sure a movie reference right
01:05:43
like a movie everything's like the something in and it's part two yeah nice
01:05:48
which app I know that one was not made by Apple Logic
01:05:54
remote clips Apple motion full deck
01:06:02
Solitaire full deck is there half deck soliter maybe I'm not sure maybe there
01:06:07
might be May interesting that's another one that I've heard of some of them I haven't heard of some others and
01:06:13
that's fascinating I'm sure those of you at home are already furiously yelling
01:06:19
the answer the phone right now but we'll take about that a little more and the answers will be at the end one more
01:06:25
break be right back good luck with the [Music]

01:07:33
section we've done before but I'm bringing it back it's overhyped or
01:07:38
underhyped Andrew likes to call it hype or wipe uh Marquez wants to call it dope
01:07:43
or nope we we don't have a name yet so if you have a better name let me know we have to pay judner for dope or nope yeah
01:07:51
oh I mean worth it cuz that's a dope name so nope the way this is gonna go is
01:07:56
I'm going to name certain Tech and a couple non-tech things mostly Tech though Marquez relax okay and you guys
01:08:03
have to say whether that particular thing is overhyped underhyped or
01:08:09
perfectly hyped you each get one perfectly hyped just one okay just one throughout the course of this and I have
01:08:15
like 20 maybe so I have a lot we don't have to go through all of them obviously but like just let me know when you guys
01:08:21
have had enough I'll stop swifting your arm first one so starting off hot okay
01:08:27
mechanical keyboards overhyped agreed mechanical keyboard
01:08:35
overhyped as for the general population they're overhyped for sure they're overhyped as someone who to some got
01:08:42
really invested in building mechanical keyboards in like 2013 and spent like literally all the money I made at my day
01:08:48
job on mechanical keyboards for like four years would be and then now uses an apple magic
01:08:54
keyboard um yeah I think that they're pretty I think that they can feel nice to type on but for some reason my
01:09:00
fingers just don't want to travel at all anymore it's like low profile Artisan I feel like like a mechanical keyboard at
01:09:07
this point is like an artisan kind of like it's almost yeah you're doing a
01:09:13
bunch extra for it to look nice and sound nice and the functionality it's giving you is not that much like a
01:09:18
wedding cake yeah my theory my theory about life on Earth is that whoa mechan
01:09:25
where's this going it's that every utility has a pocket of it that is extremely overdone because people get
01:09:33
really into it every utility which is a great part about Humanity I will say yeah I love that part you get really
01:09:38
into it what time is it oh I'll check my watch what time is it oh I'm glad you asked about my watch my favorite item in
01:09:45
the universe like that is everywhere yeah what's your answer I think
01:09:53
overhyped okay everyone goes overhyped yeah cool cool next nanotexture display
01:09:58
I was going to say that cuz I was just looking at it I was I just installed notion I was like why does it look better okay but you just unboxed this a
01:10:07
couple days ago it looks so everything looks amazing and like the best thing ever the first like week so you have to
01:10:13
like give it some time I'm so worried if this thing ages poorly I'm going to be so sad I think the chance of that
01:10:19
happening is there's a higher chance of that happening than not so I'm going to go with overhyped because if you love
01:10:25
something so much and then in like 3 months you're like I regret paying I regret paying more money for this to now
01:10:31
be something that annoys me I think on the studio display xdr it is definitely
01:10:37
overhyped because it's $1,000 the yeah the pro pro display XR
01:10:42
yeah yeah like $1,000 for that I would never pay um maybe 150 on the MacBook
01:10:49
Pro so what's worrying me specifically is you've had this MacBook Pro the space black one for a little while and we put
01:10:54
him Side by side and like your keyboard is way more worn in and like the trackpad where you use the trackpad is
01:11:01
like you can see the gradient of where you use it when you don't yeah and I'm like it looks so good new where
01:11:07
everything is nice and even and and matte yeah and the display is so so
01:11:12
crisp and matte and perfect I'm like how long is it going to take before I just accept that it can't look good anymore
01:11:18
the keys of a brand new laptop looks so good and then the oils of your fingers just decimate do have
01:11:26
a transparent skin no that will just protect it like ppf dude I
01:11:32
would I would ppf my I would actually ceramic coat my keyboard I think that
01:11:38
might be the move are you are you on the train of those people that have those rubber gas things that's equivalent of
01:11:45
what it does so actually you can you can put the so you can ceramic coat the leather seats of your car which you
01:11:52
won't really notice the difference but it should prevent like the the denim color from rubbing off onto your seats
01:11:57
it's like a protective layer and I'm actually considering do they do that can
01:12:03
you press yeah yeah it's super thin yeah I don't know if you can do that on just the top keyboard just the keys just the
01:12:10
top of each key I would pay like maybe $50 to $100 for that stock to make my
01:12:15
keyboard always look new worth it yo this might be a shark tank idea doesn't that start getting
01:12:21
grimy what the keyboard the coding um I don't no because it's easy to clean
01:12:29
off you like wipe it off everything's fine you wipe it off the same thing with your it's like hydrophobic on top so you just wipe it off does that react to oils
01:12:35
the same way it reacts to like pigment from your jeans no it's hydrophobic in general so I think
01:12:41
any like wax or Oils or Waters just just you wipe it it's gone from the top it's
01:12:47
easy to clean that's the whole point of it is being easy to clean very good Shark Tank idea I kind of like it uh a
01:12:52
nano texture currently currently overhyped but could turn out
01:13:01
to Broken underhyped maybe maybe I think it could be underhyped on the computers
01:13:07
because like no one's talking about it and having it in looks very nice so if you end up really liking it I would say
01:13:13
that could be underhyped yeah it looks when we are sitting in this exact
01:13:19
spot next week and there's eight fingerprints on it and you're like that's me in a week yeah okay all right
01:13:24
next video essays on YouTube oh my God I have a rant about I have a video essay about
01:13:31
video ESS I like really that's a great idea I me personally yeah I'm going with
01:13:38
overhyped but I think they are a valuable insight into the trends
01:13:44
happening on YouTube which is we realize that longer videos are stickier than ever before it doesn't mean everything
01:13:51
has to be an hourlong video essay which kind of feels like some people think that that's what has to happen but it's
01:13:57
it's interesting to note so it's overhyped but good to good to keep an eye on that's my take it's
01:14:04
just I'd probably say overhype not because I don't like them but because I'd probably just listen to it like a
01:14:09
podcast anyways so all of the work they're putting in for the animations and photos and whatever that yeah but
01:14:16
you wouldn't have found it if it was on a podcast app true got no totally agree
01:14:22
but that's still a ton of extra work they're doing for me to just listen to it I have a lot of thoughts I I knew you
01:14:29
would this is how I know this like looking at David when you said it you were like hourong video and for you he's
01:14:36
like man okay so I have a problem with the
01:14:43
current state of YouTube video essays because I think a lot of people are truncating video essays with commentary
01:14:50
videos and they're very much not the same thing a lot of times commentary
01:14:55
videos will just run like an hour you know and they'll use the sources they
01:15:00
use are just tweets and things like that and they'll like rant about things but they're just kind of like thing bad
01:15:07
thing bad look how dumb thing bad commentary videos and that is like the most popular common kind of 1H hour
01:15:15
video on YouTube which is very annoying to me well we usually run around an hour 30 so okay and we well yeah we usually
01:15:23
also say thing back sometimes we say thing good which we did on this episode nice but yeah I think it it feels like
01:15:30
they're masquerading as video essays a video essay should be I have an opinion
01:15:36
and I'm trying to prove I'm trying to change your mind to my opinion by using a number of examples and sources and
01:15:44
these things MH and I think that video actual video essays
01:15:50
are between I think they definitely used to be underhyped now they're just kind of hyped but so
01:15:57
you're using your perfectly hyped oh gosh oh W I think real I okay actually no I think I think I think real video
01:16:05
essays on YouTube are underhyped because they're more rare and because when you actually like ingest one it feels really
01:16:12
good and your brain sort of Lights On Fire a little bit that's really what got like anyway no it's great I I love the
01:16:19
heat you know but but yeah I think I think a lot
01:16:24
of people think that video essays are are what commentary videos are and they're not the same thing so I would say underhyped if we're actually talking
01:16:31
about real video essays under the purism the purest yeah real video real I'm just
01:16:37
tired of the commentary videos that are just like how dumb do these people have to be it's like this is the same as
01:16:43
reality TV you're just but it's an hour long so is reality TV totally yeah so
01:16:50
just accessing the part of your brain that feels Superior to other people it's just a pod with
01:16:56
pictures it's a yeah podcast which I think is I don't think there's anything wrong about it I just think they're
01:17:02
spending a lot of extra time for me to listen to for sure but YouTube is such a better dist I totally agree that's why
01:17:08
we are on YouTube yeah right exactly is this podcast a video essay no
01:17:13
no not at all the opposite this is at best a video rough
01:17:18
draft we are convincing no one here this is the brainstorming session no here we are just here talking to you okay last
01:17:26
time we did this you guys all said that chat GPT was overhyped is it still overhyped yes yes all right
01:17:33
next yeah I'm going to go with you yeah I still feel as though everyone is
01:17:41
saying this is gonna change every ad that plays is like do you understand how
01:17:48
much this is going to change your productivity and your workflow and like maybe for some people that do a lot of
01:17:53
coding like there was this new story that came out last week that Google Now uses 25% AI generated code which is
01:18:00
pretty wild M but for almost everything else um it is not the revolution quite
01:18:06
yet that we were promised and what you're saying is exactly why like when we say overhype it doesn't mean it is a
01:18:12
terrible thing it means it's getting way too much hype for what it's doing it doesn't mean it is a ter bad necessarily
01:18:19
you could use a brainstorm you could jump back and forth between you could use it there's plenty of things that Chachi does that is impressive for some
01:18:25
people it's the greatest thing they' ever used it's amazing but the new F it's being marketed yeah thanks Sundar
01:18:33
it's a wheel it's a wheel all right foldable
01:18:40
smartphones um I'm feeling perfectly hyped coming yeah is this it oh yeah I need to think about this one yeah I need
01:18:46
to think about this one I would say underhyped cuz I just think the general population still doesn't even think that's kind of where I was leaning in
01:18:52
like if we're talking outside our world I don't think anyone cares about fold foldable phones overhyped overhyped I'm
01:19:00
going overhyped just because of how much aspect ratio comes up every single time people have a folding phone they're like
01:19:06
what do you do with it oh you know it's a bigger screen yeah but but what do you do with the bigger screen you watch a
01:19:11
video at the same size at the exact same size yeah the same size yeah I mean multitasking occasionally notion once in
01:19:18
a while but like I think for most people not actually that much more useful so I
01:19:24
think it might have to go into over you said something once that perfectly describes what you're saying and that
01:19:29
was the pixel fold has the best closed experience yeah yeah that says something
01:19:36
I definitely think once the trifolds start coming out I think they will be underhyped until people realize the
01:19:43
magic but currently a one by one aspect ratio I just don't see the benefit of
01:19:49
because I'm not the type of person who needs two pieces of information to be next to each other all the time and even
01:19:55
if that's useful to reference you have to like do a bunch of gestures to get them to be next to each other so you
01:20:02
spent all that time when you could have just been in one app copying the information over to the other app you could save pairs but I see what you mean
01:20:09
yeah I don't know ask you Adam because you're physically using one right now yeah
01:20:14
um I would say underhyped only because I mean underhyped on all sides
01:20:23
like I think developers are also not taking full advantage of foldable devices a good point so like you can't
01:20:28
have the experience if you don't have the developers behind it supporting new thought-provoking experiences so I would
01:20:34
say underhyped in that sense once the trifold come out it's all over it's a wrap yeah that's it it's going to be underhyped as heck and I'm going to just
01:20:41
it's all over and then overhyped when all of them break because of the outside folting screen yeah all right
01:20:47
Thunderbolt 5 well it's not hype very much yeah there's only two computers out that
01:20:55
I think I have to go underhyped just because so you think it is actually underhyped then I think it's almost not
01:21:02
hyped at all but I think has some really awesome potential for some people including video editors like like myself
01:21:08
moving huge projects from computer to computer just in general more bandwidth is nice yeah um it's not going to be
01:21:14
some amazing revolutionary thing but I don't hear it being talked about very much so I'm going to go underhyped I
01:21:20
think that it is going to be so expensive to buy Thunderbolt 5 drives in
01:21:26
the first two years of it being out that it almost does not matter like when we had when we first had Thunderbolt 3
01:21:33
everyone was like oh my God 40 gbits per second you can move data so quickly you can attach an egpu to it but everything
01:21:40
related to Thunderbolt 3 was like obnoxiously expensive and that's just prohibitive for anyone that wants to use
01:21:46
anything with it so yeah yeah yeah I would say it's not even being hyped at
01:21:51
all nobody's even talking about besides us Mac we're the only ones talking about on the Apple Apple will like mention it
01:21:59
yeah and it'll be like one they didn't even mention it I think they did it was one they were like it was on the little like you know the sheet they put up at
01:22:04
the end with all the it'll be like thunderbow 5 and you're like ooh and that was it yeah we about thunder 6 that
01:22:11
might be my perfectly what about WiFi that might be my perfectly hype because it's so expensive that it's
01:22:16
prohibitively expensive but nobody's really talking about it so it's that's fair I'm going to say that's my
01:22:22
perfectly hype all right totally fair under under cuz no one's talking about it I mean yeah besides us not enough
01:22:29
people I'm sure there's other tech people talking about it but I don't think anybody well when I say us I mean like the tech people Tech Community I
01:22:35
just want to make sure people don't think we are the literally the only people who no nobody else is talking about this
01:22:41
apple prz prz overhyped overhyped hard agree
01:22:49
is it hyped that much yeah would be a different situation
01:22:54
literally proes log prz log that's the one I meant under underhyped
01:22:59
really I think the difference in quality between prores log with a Le on it and regular prores is insane dramatic but
01:23:08
you really really need a very large capacity phone to actually take advantage of it yeah and it's also like
01:23:13
where are you publishing it cuz if you're just sharing it on like aext with
01:23:18
your friends they might not even notice but if you're going to put it on on YouTube or maybe on Instagram maybe some
01:23:25
people might notice it's it kind of depends on who the audience is for the thing but to me just watching back my
01:23:32
own footage huge difference yeah so I like it I'm going to go underhyped underhyped you're staying staying true
01:23:39
I'll stay over it's so much data it is a lot every time Marquez is like I just grabbed a couple Clips on my phone and
01:23:45
we're like all right cool we have to wait half an hour to get this off I still have not a lot of people have
01:23:51
tweeted at me and messaged at me being like this is how you get the has log data off my phone I promise you I've
01:23:56
tried every method you're suggesting and my phone just freezes and crashes so it's not it takes years maybe it's too
01:24:03
much data I don't know so it's too much yeah uh Samsung one UI do people
01:24:08
overhyped overhyped yeah I really don't like Samsung's ux and I haven't liked it in a very long time the new one UI has
01:24:16
gotten some very positive feedback I've noticed how are we on 15 when you I 15
01:24:23
no I think well Android 15 but I guess it's like one U what is it one UI 7.0 yeah yeah the icons look
01:24:31
terrible in YouTube Tech circles it is getting hype outside of that I don't know that I
01:24:39
see anyone else talking about it yeah I feel like we almost have to look at it inside Tex circles but I also inside
01:24:46
Tech circles it's maybe overhyped overy in like the general uh
01:24:52
Corpus of like my Aunt has a Samsung phone and she has no idea it's just a software
01:24:58
update she's like oh they changed some stuff yeah pretty under I went back to like a Samsung phone and ah my last one
01:25:06
was in 2017 I think and I always missed it but I was on Google and like kind of
01:25:12
stock Android and I thought it looked so much better and the UI was nicer and the thing kind of holding me back was like I
01:25:18
really just don't love the icons and and now I'm on it and I just don't care at all it's totally fine it works it still
01:25:26
looks good whatever paint yeah it's just different I guess and you get used to it every UI thing is like I just have to
01:25:32
get used to it again and then you get used to it and then you never think about it so I will say I need to try one
01:25:38
UI 7 because I've not tried it and so I should not have an opinion on it yet but I think seven is out for a lot of things
01:25:45
it's coming out yeah it's like rolling out slowly but I just have never liked Samsung's icons since one UI I think
01:25:51
their icons are probably the worst looking icons I would agree agreed yeah fresh PHA paint I'm going overhyped just
01:25:58
because of the YouTube Chann I mean there's going to be people who are extremely excited for one ui7 and that's
01:26:04
totally again every utility has a crowd that's like let's go this is my thing I'll
01:26:11
probably go overhyped on it too okay if if there's people really excited about it I think it's a worse looking UI than
01:26:20
the pixel UI looks better UI yeah but like it's totally fine and it's working perfectly for me yes all right mag safe
01:26:28
wait on laptops or on phones yeah on phones oh the iPhone's like mag safe yeah uh well okay I think it's pretty
01:26:36
perfectly hyped you used yours I know you got to pick over
01:26:41
under oh I'm going to say under because I think it's a thing that
01:26:47
when it first came out people were like that's cool there might be an accessory ecosystem for this there wasn't for a
01:26:53
long time and people felt like it was overhype for a while but it's its cascading effects having moved to both
01:26:59
Chi 2.0 and also all the Android case manufacturers now making magnetic phone
01:27:06
cases that work with the ecosystem I think that quantifies as
01:27:11
being underhyped because it had such cascading effects to the rest of all mobile stuff I think it's underhyped
01:27:18
because I don't think the Android atmosphere understands how good it is it is just some magnets and I totally
01:27:25
understand that and when ch2 comes out it's going to be the same thing and I'm just going to be happy for that but man
01:27:31
I I'd be lying if I said I didn't pick my last phone making sure that it had a case with mag safe
01:27:37
compatibility kind of why I went from I liked my zen phone a lot but I had to put a stupid sticker on the back that I
01:27:43
know wasn't perfectly aligned to have mag safe then couldn't put a case on it I think it's the best accessory for
01:27:48
smartphones period damn you guys have swayed me I was going to say overhyped but and and it's because of what you
01:27:55
said like there was a whole bunch of promise and then for like a year nothing happened and it was like oh I guess mag
01:28:00
safe is kind of a dud and then slowly in the background there's just all these mag saafe things popping up now everyone I know with an iPhone has some kind of
01:28:06
Mag safe something happening whether it's a car mount or a case with a charger or whatever and um I actually
01:28:13
had a non-apple company tell me about an accessory that they made for their own
01:28:20
phone and they called it mag safe compatible told me to my face in a briefing that it was mag safe compatible
01:28:27
and I was like did you say that by accident or it's mag safe compatible they're like yeah mag safe they didn't say ch2 so yeah this this world of like
01:28:34
everything's got to have mag safe is is totally real so I I now lean underhyped
01:28:39
it's actually coming around I think utilit utility wise it is like really
01:28:44
high up there I think it's also underhyped because people with iPhones it's just like a pretty average thing
01:28:51
they have now and they're not that hyped about it and then people who just don't use it are like it's just a stupid
01:28:56
magnet I love that magnet they're sick think about it magnets invisible force
01:29:02
sick yeah underhyped for sure I'm in next one the PS5
01:29:07
controller underhyped underhyped I love the PS5 controller if you play astrobot
01:29:14
then you're going to say underhyped I know dude it's so good and it's underhyped because not enough developers
01:29:19
are taking advantage of it I still I feel like it's like mag safe like when we play that initial demo and we were like this is the greatest controller
01:29:26
ever made and then we got like a little bit in occasional games but not that much game the new one I want more games
01:29:35
to use features like that like the sprint button in 2K when you hold the right trigger as your character gets
01:29:40
more tired it's harder and harder to push to spr can like feel his hamstring [Laughter]
01:29:47
snap immersive underhyped underhyped for sure dang yeah uh overhyped overhead cuz
01:29:54
the Xbox controller is and has always been better than the PlayStation controller really even now disagree what
01:30:00
up YouTube shorts I've always thought the Xbox
01:30:05
controller layout is better than the play the layout is better that which
01:30:10
means it is a better controller ergonomically it's better correct but which means it is a better
01:30:16
controller tactility matters and like uh durability matters battery life is
01:30:22
actually pretty trash on the PS5 controller I will say I haven't played many consoles in a long time NE I I
01:30:29
think the offset joysticks on an Xbox controller is so much better than the joysticks on a PlayStation controller
01:30:35
and that completely Takes the Cake in every aspect possible because of I wish I could figure out why like I I agree
01:30:42
when I use it I'm like oh yeah this is more natural but it's offset I don't know why it's better but it is but the
01:30:47
PS5 controller as a whole though I I like the PS5 controller but
01:30:52
the Xbox controller is better and I think more people think the PS5 controller or PlayStation controller is better which in turn for the game I
01:30:59
think makes it overhype you think more people think it's better than the I think more people think PlayStation controller is better man this is the
01:31:05
this is the most argued about thing in technology more than Android versus iPhone oh more yeah we think that's bad
01:31:14
the the Playstation Xbox fight is it's pretty serious it's been that way since
01:31:19
I was a we at sis fighting the parking lot talking about Xbox versus p it's
01:31:24
crazy yeah yeah I have to say I have not used a console besides the switch in
01:31:30
like a really long time and the switch controllers are bad um the idea is
01:31:35
incredible great idea great idea very difficult to execute they really need to switch to
01:31:42
official hall effect uh because you have you can replace it with hall effect joysticks or you can buy like third
01:31:48
party Jo Stakes anyway we're off track I I have not really used the PS5 SLX xbx
01:31:54
controllers that much I think that the ps51 looks better that doesn't really
01:32:00
matter that much it doesn't matter that much Xbox does have an incredible like Xbox controller Design Lab and all their
01:32:07
collabs and everything is cool um PC compatibility yeah PC so Xbox has PC
01:32:14
he's saying PS5 has also no I say Xbox has Xbox oh I do okay sorry I was like
01:32:21
Xbox does do most of the X most of the windows stuff is X more native yeah more
01:32:26
native yeah pretty sure you can do both pretty fa I don't I'm not I don't have an opinion I would say almost every
01:32:32
rocket League person I see is using a PlayStation controller it seems like oh interesting cuz they're always the ones
01:32:38
who have like the little UI in their stream that shows what buttons they're pressing and how fast they're doing it to hit their like that's cool the rocket
01:32:45
League shots that make zero sense but I will say I think the touchpad thing in the center of the PS5 controller is kind
01:32:52
of overhyped cuz cuz nobody ever utilized it that much isn't it for like typing pretty much like you have when
01:32:59
you have to type in like that's kind of an easier feels like a redundant extra technology that probably costs more and
01:33:05
they nobody's really using yeah it's kind of like a menu selection pad like every car has a little touchpad in the
01:33:11
middle and you like move on the touchpad to select your icon on the SC it's kind of just that yeah but I think that the
01:33:17
the pressure sensitive uh it is awesome yeah those are amazing it's really cool yeah all right how are we feeling a
01:33:23
couple more of these yeah a couple more yeah I haven't used my my perfectly High I'm trying to get you guys to say
01:33:29
it but you keep talking yourself into Corners Adam's like having a child come
01:33:35
on overh all right on that note PS5
01:33:43
Pro we don't have it it seems to be widely hated we just it's $700 just it's
01:33:49
$700 that was tough and yeah you graphics get aren't actually correct me
01:33:55
if I'm wrong CU I haven't seen that many videos yet but it's not that much better is it no it's barely Noti because games have to take advantage of it and it's
01:34:01
like with the PS5 you have to choose between like really good graphics array tracing or high
01:34:07
resolution or frame rate frame rate yeah it's like quality of of image or frame
01:34:13
rate and so oh right right yeah and so with this one you can get both allegedly yeah but this is the 4K noos do yeah PS5
01:34:22
I mean I've seen the the graphics are better just marginally yeah from what
01:34:28
I've seen I think the Virg review was centered around like how close are you sitting to your TV because if you are
01:34:33
sitting really close then it matters and if you're not then it does not there are like articles about can you tell the
01:34:39
difference between the PS5 and PS5 program and if you have to ask that question I feel like it's overhyped but
01:34:46
it is cool that the people who don't care and just want to spend the money can get both if they want it yeah do you
01:34:52
think they could make a like PS 5 chill that's just one that you can actually put in your living room and doesn't look
01:34:57
like a spaceship oh yeah it's the Mac Mini chill the PS5 chill yeah just put
01:35:05
put it in your media center and just close the do yeah that's that's how you win with that fair so okay uh now that
01:35:13
we are on the other side of Mia the robot and have Colossus I want to know do you guys
01:35:19
think Mia is overrated underrated perfectly rated
01:35:25
in my circles Mia is overrated your circle
01:35:32
like you me and Brandon for like for the robot arms
01:35:39
circle is like us and Sean the guy who created it it's uh it's YouTubers I've
01:35:44
talked to about it okay but no one else has any of them so correct no one else
01:35:50
has them but Mia only unlocked a small fraction of what we aimed to do with the
01:35:55
robot arm Colossus unlocked everything we wanted to do like the full 360s the
01:36:01
the big wide movements Mia was like Mia it was just like a tiny little taste and we were like oh what if we could what
01:36:08
and we only learned of like the things we wanted to do because of having Mia how long do we have that two years damn
01:36:14
motorized Precision Ladder Up the Ladder they got me they
01:36:19
got me so good so yes I ended up buying both but um would be overrated in my
01:36:24
opinion and then Colossus could easily be underrated does it's smoother it's bigger it's faster it does everything
01:36:30
all the angles yeah power supply room also iPad app and worth it it is worth
01:36:37
it the IP is the sickest lamp right now that's true it's it's got to be
01:36:43
overrated yeah okay so MIA or Colossus MIA MIA MIA is overrated for sure the
01:36:49
fact that we bought a robot arm and couldn't even do a 360 around a phone we were like woof that was a little tough
01:36:54
you do that with a gimbal so yeah damn true okay uh top still make
01:37:01
cool stuff with it we made some really cool stuff with it yeah we made it work next top down
01:37:08
shots whoa uh I'm going to go my perfectly hyped that's perfectly hyped I
01:37:14
think it's become a staple of tech reviews in general I think it's a fun way to add creativity and flare to
01:37:22
looking at the same form factor of a thing 800 times a year um I think it
01:37:28
adds to the video aspect and production quality of what we're doing and without taking away you know it's not taking
01:37:34
away from what we're talking about just to be like creative and artistic so I feel like I feel the same way about top
01:37:41
Downs that David feels about hourlong video essays like explain I think I see a lot
01:37:47
of really weak top Downs around the internet and I'm like I know you're you're trying to do a top down because
01:37:52
you saw top downs and top Downs look cool yeah but you can really get in the
01:37:59
weeds with like what makes a good proper top down and how how it's lit and how it's set up and how you're framed and
01:38:05
all these other things and I think you can work your way up to appreciating the
01:38:11
hype of a good top down so I I think I'm with you I think it's right around perfectly Hye I don't think it makes or
01:38:17
breaks a video but when you see someone who like nailed one you're like that looks really good and there are some
01:38:22
creators out there that you'll just be like oh that was good they spent like a little extra time on that and it just
01:38:28
shows that you like care a lot about the video that you're making and there's also like you would think it's just a
01:38:33
simple thing where you could you could do everything you've ever thought of in a year of top downs and every year
01:38:39
there's something new that happens in the world of top Downs or that we see that we never thought of that I go oh yeah we should do that W that's that's a
01:38:46
totally I had never thought of that we should move the table up into Focus instead of the camera down all these crazy things I think yeah there's a deep
01:38:52
a deep appreciation for that in my world anyway getting the lighting right for a
01:38:58
top Down's very hard it is I tried my first top down ever uh many years ago
01:39:04
and with this video and it's just there's so many Shadows so many Shadow to be fair I only had one it was a huge
01:39:10
soft box but I only had one you you already got a nice side accent light going on that's that's that's already
01:39:15
another dimension people that didn't come up till like year four of me doing top Downs do you remember the one time
01:39:22
we started making a set this was up in Studio B so upstairs mhm we made the set and we were kind of like this looks like
01:39:29
we're looking straight at it not down at it so we created this entire scene that
01:39:35
made it look like it was standing upright on a counter and then the intro of it was we pulled all the things away
01:39:41
and the phone stayed there because it was looking down not looking forward nice it looked like a bookshelf shot
01:39:47
that became a top down shot with the movement of the props on the table pretty sick so guys have all used your
01:39:54
perfectly hyped I think I'm going perfectly hyped yeah there it is okay next USBC oh God underhyped underhyped yeah
01:40:04
why because still not enough things have been updated with it yet even though most things are getting updated with it
01:40:11
and it is so frustrating to only bring one cable and then always run into like the one or two things that just don't
01:40:17
have it I think that's why I'm at overhyped that's why you're overhyped because if you talk to a regular person
01:40:25
about how the front ones are USBC and the back ones are Thunderbolt and this one you can use this cable and that one
01:40:30
you can't their eyes glaze over before you even finish the sentence okay well are we talking about the spec inside of
01:40:36
the USBC port or are we talking about I think just the USBC Port as a shape yeah as a thing that
01:40:43
exist in the world IO it's not the shape's fault that everyone's made it so damn confusing but it well yeah yeah
01:40:51
you're right but 2 Gen 4 want it to be one universal thing and
01:40:58
that's that was the hype of USBC and it's not that there's a bunch of things inside of it makes that at Le yeah we
01:41:04
made like the we finally maybe have gotten to the point where the shape is universal and then we made it infinitely
01:41:10
more confusing by adding a bunch of different specs to it yeah my thing is like as long as the shape is universal
01:41:16
that's good enough for me because if the data transfer is slower than I want it to be I can get over that but I can't
01:41:22
get over not having the right cable and so always having one cable that is the right cable no matter if it's like are
01:41:28
you fully USB out your whole everything the only thing I don't have the tspc is my airpods because I didn't I didn't
01:41:36
want to buy new airpods just to get that Wireless charge them most of the time and now I use um I use the pixel buds
01:41:42
mostly now so yeah I'm pretty USBC Ked out it is nice to know now that if I
01:41:47
ever do get anything that has to be charged and it doesn't have USBC I know
01:41:53
know that it's just some white labeled crap or yeah yeah yeah true like the fact that like really terrible Bluetooth
01:42:00
speakers that cost like $10 micro USB well some of them are even USBC now like we're getting to that point where even
01:42:06
the total garbage has USBC and it still took the Logitech grpro like up to a
01:42:11
year ago to get USBC charg I say underhyped because I want it to be more hyped so that people can freaking move
01:42:17
over already it's like almost there Magic Mouse is there finally magic Trackpad is there agre um airpads max
01:42:25
are there airpads airpods Max oh uh magic keyboard yeah I mean all of Apple's accessories are right yeah like
01:42:31
every single one except uh as of a montho yeah now they all are there yeah
01:42:37
thank God thank God the polishing cloth we made it that is that is one last one one last
01:42:44
one what about the polishing cloth I legit okay look somehow underhyped hot
01:42:49
as hell I think it's underhyped it's the only one that works on the pro display
01:42:54
it's also just so good there's a lot of microfiber cloths out there they all kind of work very often they leave like
01:43:02
little micro fibers on the display that you're thinking and then you have to wipe it off and if you wipe it off with
01:43:07
your hand then there's another smudge and it's this endless cycle of microf fibering and wiping it off with your finger the polishing cloth I understand
01:43:14
it's $20 there's tears $19 yeah okay look yeah yeah there's two it's not that
01:43:21
bad it could be wor here's the three tiers of microfibers tier one is you just wipe it on your
01:43:26
shirt whatever your shirt is made of who cares I'm just getting a bunch of smudges off there's something on my phone I just got it off that's tier one
01:43:32
tier two is like any of the microfibers that come like built in like for free with like your screen your case those
01:43:39
are terrible random microfiber you can just get they always have Jagged edges for some re glasses mic glasses they
01:43:46
were cut with those scissors sciss but like with those at least
01:43:52
they're an actual at microfiber and they'll probably clean your phone one time those are basically single use
01:43:57
single use and then tier three is like the good microfibers which include
01:44:03
apples and like a couple others that are like actually decent materials which are
01:44:08
and this kind of bleeds into the like car world where like you buy a microfiber to clean your car and they're
01:44:14
like the ones that like pinch fibers out in the corners of when you clean the door and you want the like good thick
01:44:19
one that actually cleans the car yeah anyway I think there's those three tiers
01:44:25
apple is clearly in in the upper tier is it in a tier of its own only with the
01:44:30
nanotexture devices maybe and for people with sensory issues you know when you like grab a microfiber cloth and just
01:44:38
like a shiver up your it feels like a ton of little pins like pushing into your fingers I think it happens more if you have like calluses for some reason
01:44:44
but there's like this I've never exper times where you touch like microfiber and it just feels like it's touching
01:44:49
your hand really weird because it feels like the fibers are like like hooking onto your
01:44:55
your yeah I think I know what you're talking about like Vin for Christmas a couple years ago got me one for my car
01:45:01
and it's like something you're just supposed to keep in your dash every time I pick it up it feels like these little hooks grab into my hand I think right
01:45:08
now I it's so hard to no I think I think I know what you're talking about is it is it like if you
01:45:15
have like a little like a a Nick on your nail or something and it grabs it is that what you mean no it's like it's
01:45:21
like it grabs the little follicles of my fingers I've never felt that interesting
01:45:27
maybe you're turning into Spider-Man I think there's yeah it's very real thing I'm looking at a bunch of Reddit threads
01:45:33
right now why can't I not touch micro our no super questions I'm telling you
01:45:38
today I learned yeah I had no idea so I will say yeah it feels like Apple's polishing cloth is beyond microfiber it
01:45:44
is like nanofiber yeah and that because of that it doesn't feel like it's like hooking
01:45:50
into my skin nice spine is like tingly it's like low it's a low pile carpet super super small
01:45:58
fibers right that wasn't on my list but I'm glad we ended there yeah I think if anyone can accurately describe what it
01:46:04
feels like to touch a microfiber with like a sensory issue please say it in the comments hooks if you made it this
01:46:12
far please please I might have one in my desk drawer I could show you I I will
01:46:17
I've had all kinds of I would love to figure this out um okay well we should sign out soon but before we do that
01:46:23
you've been thinking about those trivia questions right David you look like you have not
01:46:29
studied for this test I have not wonderful oh wait oh yeah I'm going quick update on the score while they get
01:46:35
the boards ready Marquez with 22 I don't have a pen Andrew with 26 an extra pen
01:46:41
please David with 23 dang all right first question far behind which of these
01:46:48
is not a popular real ev/ hybrid car in China h a the BD Jam B the wooling Bingo
01:46:59
C the io M7 or D the
01:47:07
[Music] zer1 don't overthink it Mar there's no
01:47:15
way either overthink or underthink this I have perfectly thought this it is
01:47:22
chaos it is just entropy there's no waying with
01:47:27
it perfectly thought this I don't know how to spell it either whatever that's fine spelling doesn't count here all
01:47:34
right flip him and read what do you got put you two put the same right B yeah
01:47:39
Bingo you both put the wooling Bingo yeah nope it's the Zer there's hope I
01:47:46
put the jam the the BD Jam yes correct really the byd jam heard names and I
01:47:53
hadn't heard the jam there's a byd song that is like the most popular one I believe but I just changed the to jam
01:47:59
dang huh got me Andrew is just taking the lead Jam sweet name just saying Jam
01:48:06
would be a sweet carard name I know it's not too late byd all right question number two which app was not made by
01:48:14
Apple the logic remote Clips Apple motion or full deck solitire
01:48:24
an app that you can download for your iPhone iPad or Mac but it's made by
01:48:31
Apple wait wait it's made by Apple not made by Apple I thought yeah you said yeah I know which one is not made so
01:48:37
that's what I mean I'm just clarifying you guys ready I think yeah I
01:48:45
got it yeah all right what do you got you all have different answers we
01:48:51
all have different answers okay David you have I put clips clips yeah that's real that is real that one's real I put
01:48:59
logic remote logic remote mhm that is also real also real I think it's full
01:49:04
deck Solitaire full deck Solitaire yeah correct there we go nice Microsoft I was
01:49:11
hoping no that full is an actual app that I believe a mother daughter team
01:49:17
made which is pretty cool no I'm just saying Microsoft always includes soliter on their I was hoping it would trip you up if I I was hoping one of the ones
01:49:23
that basically had Apple in the name was a trick question so I thought logic remote you're like oh logic that's Apple
01:49:30
but the remote maybe was a third party speaking of logic remote and jam do you guys remember iTunes jams
01:49:38
yeah way back in the day they've tried some weird stuff with iTunes it was so it was the Spotify jams but it was
01:49:44
called iTunes DJ not jams it's called iTunes DJ if you're on the same Wi-Fi network you could go on iTunes and you
01:49:50
could vote on songs in the queue and it would move around the queue based on what people wanted it was a fully
01:49:58
Democratic iPhone or I iTunes music listening what was the other thing I did
01:50:04
The Social Network inside of iTunes that was called ping ping yeah ping yeah that
01:50:09
was also a weird one that was an idea so I just miss I missed the DJ or whatever
01:50:15
it was called well now I got the Spotify AI DJ yeah it's great but the Spotify
01:50:21
jams like break all the time you know worse at Spotify jams though is the Apple music uh air AirPlay I don't use
01:50:29
it AirPlay or don't use it car Coop I overrated it's just it never works the
01:50:35
thing where you allow other people to add to your queue it just never works it's broken as hell anyway sorry
01:50:41
continue anyway well hey that was a fun episode and I'm glad we got all the way to the end and had a bunch of stuff to
01:50:46
talk about uh next week still probably a bunch more mac stuff cuz we have the MacBook Pro reviews coming out but much
