I just did about a 15hour road trip that was a whole bunch of cities in a row and
00:00:05
I listened to a lot of songs thanks to the Spotify AI DJ. Wow. No regrets.
00:00:11
What's up, David? Is that your impression? Now, we're going to take it back to 1997. Your parents were arguing
00:00:18
in the other room. You didn't know what to do. You started crying. It does. Here's
00:00:24
Mariah Carey.
00:00:30
Yo, what is up people of the internet? Welcome back to a subscriber only episode of the Waveform Podcast. You're
00:00:36
only hearing this if you are subscribed. And if you are hearing this and you're not subscribed, then there must be some
00:00:42
kind of glitch. Definitely make sure you get subscribed as fast as possible just in case this glitch uh goes away.
00:00:47
Anyway, we're your hosts. I'm Marquez. I'm Andrew. And I'm Nintendo Switch 2. Oh, so you thought you thought that was
00:00:52
gone, but it was always going to come back. We're back. Uh today's episode we've got a case manufacturer leaking
00:00:59
iPhone 17s. You know, this this sort of life cycle of pre iPhone releases is in
00:01:05
full swing. Uh the S25 Edge, a new Google favicon/ logo, and also Whoop
00:01:11
getting some massive backlash for their new 5.0 band. Whoops. But first, yeah, I
00:01:16
was going to make that face. That is the first of probably 10 puns we will do. I already have that joke built into the
00:01:21
soundboard. I've already I I made that joke months ago. Yeah, I was first. Uh, but first, let's just dive into the
00:01:27
stuff that we were looking forward to last week cuz we mentioned it was coming. The Android show. Preio this
00:01:33
year. So, we have Google IO, but preio we had an Android
00:01:39
specific 15 or so minute uh live stream from Google where they went over some Android 16 updates. They went into
00:01:45
Material 3 expressive. They went into uh some new Gemini features. Thoughts?
00:01:51
Thoughts and opinions? Many thoughts and opinions. I think my first thought was I was wishing it'd be longer. Yeah. Like I
00:01:57
I was hoping getting this a week early I was excited for because it felt like maybe
00:02:03
iOS realized it's going to be AI focused. Let's give the people what they want on the Android side and let's have
00:02:10
an event event like it didn't feel like an event. No, totally. It was like a shorter It was about 22 minutes and they
00:02:16
did a little uh felt shorter. Yeah, they they did a little but also a thing at the very end where they brought deer out
00:02:22
which is kind of an homage just specifically for people who care about this stuff the to the level that we care
00:02:28
about. Um they introduced some new stuff that will be in Android 16 and then also
00:02:36
some new design elements and some new stuff for cars and whatever. But it's all like later this year which is very
00:02:43
nebulous. Yeah. And I feel like the reason they're doing this is because all of IO is going to be Gemini. But the
00:02:50
funny thing is half of this was Gemini. This has kind of happened with an Apple keynote before maybe one or two years ago where they had a section that they
00:02:57
essentially cut out of the main keynote and it came at a separate time. This feels like, oh wow, we have an hour to
00:03:02
give people about Gemini AI. Why don't we just take the Android stuff out and and publish it for the Android audience
00:03:08
who wants to see that? Right. So now we saw it. Yeah. It it's Yeah. A couple neat things here and there. Some new
00:03:15
rounded corners and bold looks and obviously the stuff that we talked about last week. You know, the thing that
00:03:20
caught my eye that was interesting, I tweeted about this. I missed it. Well,
00:03:26
we were working on a video about this, but they keep doing this thing where they will use a Samsung phone to demo
00:03:33
all of the new Android features. And I hadn't tweeted about this in a while, so I did. I I put it on threads. I put it
00:03:39
on Twitter. And I got all kinds of different explanations as to why they're
00:03:44
doing this. I had maybe two or three things in my head. I got maybe seven or eight people that were very sure about
00:03:50
why Google keeps doing this and they're all wrong. And they're well, I think they're all kind of right in a way. Like
00:03:55
if you combine them all, that's true. You know, there's people saying, look, people uh recognize Samsung phones as
00:04:03
Android phones, so this is a no-brainer for them. It's a good collab. People were saying, "Oh, Samsung paid them to
00:04:08
do that and just put it on stage in front of people," which I don't necessarily know if that's true, but maybe they have a Well, there was that
00:04:14
report that went out recently that Samsung pays Google an enormous sum of money to put Gemini on Galaxy phones.
00:04:21
So, they have a relationship. I mean, they obviously like for the last two years there have been Google X Samsung
00:04:27
ads on the side of the bus stop that have said like Google works best on Samsung. Yeah. Uh there's also I mean
00:04:34
Pixel devices are are not popular in in comparison to Samsung in comparison
00:04:39
especially most of the countries that we talk to unless you live in my neighborhood and then you only see Pixel devices for some reason. I think what's
00:04:46
kind of weirder about it is like we're not we've seen plenty of Samsung inside of Google events too. Like a lot of
00:04:52
wasn't it like watch OS from a few years ago they were showing on Samsung watches because there wasn't really there wasn't
00:04:58
the Pixel Watch out yet. Yeah, it's this not even mentioning it like Galaxy
00:05:05
series where they're just like demoing it and like very right into the camera. Like this is not a device and this was
00:05:11
the the Edge, right, for this show. It's the S25 Ultra that they Oh, the talked
00:05:17
about the Edge briefly at the end. I think deer talked about it uh famously in the Google Pixel 9 event last year.
00:05:23
The first half of the event was demoed Gemini on S24 Ultra. That's the weirdest
00:05:30
one to me. And even even if it is like, okay, now you have your own Pixel phones. You'll surely you'll use Pixel
00:05:35
phones to demo new Android features. And they continue to use Samsung. It's also crazy that they wouldn't demo it on a Pixel 8 and then be like, and that you
00:05:42
thought that was the best of the best. Here's our nine. Yeah. Yeah. Another explanation that I saw a lot of was
00:05:49
Google is getting ahead of any antirust sort of accusations by showing how rich
00:05:57
and competitive the hardware landscape is that they're surely not favoring their own Pixel devices because look
00:06:02
we've shown so many Samsung ones and then of course there's deer section at the end highlighting like Pixel has such
00:06:08
little market share there's no chance that this is going to be a problem but you know that is like another angle that I saw in my replies a lot so yeah
00:06:15
there's there's There's a lot of that. They also very clearly showed like the Android XR is launching on a Samsung
00:06:21
headset, the Project Muhan thing. They very clearly show, you know, lots of other devices. But that it just it
00:06:27
caught my eye. It is interesting considering Google's whole thing has been look at all your options, but most
00:06:33
of the time they're like Samsung, Samsung, Samsung, Samsung. They probably just know that people recognize Samsung
00:06:40
more than they recognize other brand names. So, it is a strategic advantage to be able to demo Android features on
00:06:45
devices that people have recognition with. It just seems like an opportunity to make Pixel devices more recognized
00:06:51
than they already are. Yeah, 100%. You know, 100%. Yeah. I guess the people watching this, would you argue 99% of
00:06:58
the people watching the Android show probably have Pixel phones probably know? Yeah, that's that's at that point
00:07:04
it's more of like give the like the people watching this are probably But uh Yeah, but I would still use it even if
00:07:09
they know about it already. I would still use it. But yeah, I don't know. Either way, that's something I have to bring up. But, uh, yeah, there's some
00:07:15
other stuff. What? There's some new color themes, new physics in swiping away notifications.
00:07:21
Do you want to just go through like the different sections? Um, okay. We'll we'll start with they started with RCS
00:07:28
updates. It was just kind of a little fun blurb that they had where there are now 1 billion RCS messages sent every
00:07:34
day. Thanks, Tim. I I was going to say that. I would love to know how many of those is because all the iPhones
00:07:40
suddenly got updated. Uh that's very funny. But then we moved on to Material 3 Expressive which we talked about
00:07:46
before and obviously this got very leaked and we even got screenshots and stuff before from this but it was nice
00:07:51
to see a lot more videos of it in action and it seems like the primary changes in
00:07:57
material 3 expressive are really aligned around the expressive angle of it where the physics of are very different. They
00:08:05
really talked about a lot of the snapping and the jiggle and all the stuff that all the windows will do on
00:08:11
your phone. So, when you're like pulling up uh notification, you're pulling it to the right, but you decide not to dismiss
00:08:16
it, it'll kind of like snap, kind of like bounce back. Yeah. And assuming the phones are fast enough to make sure this
00:08:22
doesn't lag, um CPU, it will be great. You need high refresh rate to get the
00:08:28
most out of your material. Yes, actually. Yes. I would like to know more about material 3 expressive and we had a
00:08:35
briefing about this where I asked like do you have any more to share because they were just like more color themes
00:08:40
it's more expressive it has better physics and that's all they said. Mhm. And I would really like to know like
00:08:45
okay can you tell me everything else cuz you're you're saying that this is a like a generational update in UX but you're
00:08:52
not saying what else is new besides some dynamic physics stuff and some color. You say more colors. What does that
00:08:59
mean? I don't know what that means. I guess to an extent Android has matured over the years where in previous
00:09:05
generations there would be like a total overhaul on what it looked like and what it meant to be Android. It would go from
00:09:11
flat to hollow which was like glowing and like Tronlike and then they'd try something else and then they they sort
00:09:16
of have slowed down and landed on this more consistent rough look for what
00:09:22
Android is. So I guess it makes sense that they're not doing this enormous change and it seems very subtle. It's physics and it's little buttons and
00:09:28
circles and colors, but it also just kind of feels like we're spinning tires a little bit. Just kind of tweaking. I
00:09:35
like agree with you that it feels weird that they're saying it's like the one of the biggest updates when it it's
00:09:40
meaningful. I think all of these things are really good, but it doesn't feel like the bigger thing was introducing
00:09:46
material a few years ago and like this is the really nice upgrade to that. Yeah. Um, I do think although like
00:09:52
physics and stuff are they're cool to see, I think they're actually super helpful for people who might not
00:09:57
understand phone UI that well because when things are a little more meaningful of where it snaps to, I'm I'm sure every
00:10:03
one of us have had a parent or a relative who are like, I just swipe something away and I don't know what it is. And now if it's a little harder to
00:10:10
do that or a little more obvious of when you're like accidentally moving something or like you said, if something
00:10:15
like wiggles, you're like, oh, that probably means an actions available here. How do I figure that out? That's a
00:10:21
really really simple way of making something more intuitive, which is like
00:10:26
Android needs probably. They're the worst. I saw something on Blue Sky this morning where someone was like material
00:10:32
3 expressive is is Android Senior Citizen Edition because all the buttons are way bigger. Everything is a little
00:10:39
bit harder to accidentally do. It's more obvious and in your face. The sections are more section. I mean, that's
00:10:44
something we talked about last week is like in an email, you now have like sections for what's going on. You've got
00:10:50
the compose window, you've got the keyboard section, you've got this section, and everything's like cut out and kind of floating. And that does help
00:10:56
you delineate like where am I, you know, on the phone. Some people in our comments did not like that apparently.
00:11:02
Why would my email look like a chat log? It's like cuz people understand what email. Yeah, I I didn't think that. I
00:11:08
thought it was a great change. I I think it's great. Yeah, I think the haptics is underrated. I've seen there's a couple
00:11:14
devices in the past couple years that have come out with like extremely clever little haptics things. I don't know if you know on the on Oppo phones if you
00:11:20
have a bunch of notifications and you hit clear all it goes like and you can feel all the notifications swipe away at
00:11:26
once. Just like little things like that. I want more of that built into Android. Remember when nothing made a huge deal
00:11:32
about the fact that when you hit airplane mode it like had a little animation of the plane like taking off?
00:11:38
Yeah, they had a whole press release for that. It's funny. really cool haptics in
00:11:44
the Android ecosystem is really funny though because then when you get that phone with the terrible like vibration
00:11:49
motor or something all of that just feels like garbage, but I'm still happy they're making Yeah. So, some new more
00:11:56
universal changes on that. Um, they're going to have more customizable quick settings and there's a subtly b blurred
00:12:02
background which honestly kind of looks a little bit like the iOS update that we
00:12:07
are uh anticipating where everything's more visions like they did have more like translucency in the Android OS with
00:12:14
this update which seemed interesting to me. Uh, they're adding a new live updates feature which is the dynamic
00:12:20
island lived updates when your phone's locked. It looks just like is it dynamic island or is it more like live
00:12:26
activities? live activities. Yeah. Yeah. But dynamic island and live activities like play together. Yeah. If you're
00:12:32
waiting for an Uber or a or some ongoing action is happening. Yeah. They look almost exactly the same, which I'm okay
00:12:39
with because it's a really great feature. Yeah. It's so funny. Sorry. Be the good stuff. Yeah. Yeah. It's so
00:12:45
funny like seeing all this when I just got the 1 UI 7 update and like it's very
00:12:50
different but also confusing. I'm just trying to like get something to play. And now like I have kind of like a live
00:12:57
thing, but it looks like the live activities that Google showed up, but it's to like the left side now. And
00:13:02
there's Yeah, I've My thoughts really quickly on 1 UI7 so
00:13:07
far is I've actually enjoyed it. It's just a little bit of getting used to things. And I I think for a big uh like
00:13:15
visual change, that's a really good thing to say. Like everyone needs their time to get used to it, but I'm not immediately hating it. So yeah, that
00:13:24
glowing review for small learning curve because you don't want to change too much and have it take forever for you.
00:13:29
But it is really funny re like seeing all this and being like, damn, there's all these cool things and then my phone completely changed to something totally
00:13:35
different and well I mean that update kind of looked very similar to the live activities update coming to this. So
00:13:41
maybe there was some crosspollination there. We're talking about Samsung developing things with Google, you know, maybe they were in there. Uh, also
00:13:48
apparently Material 3 Expressive is more battery efficient than Material U somehow. Somehow, uh, which I'm down
00:13:54
for. Okay. And is coming to Pixels later this year. Yay. Which probably just
00:14:00
means it's launching on the Pixel 10. Yeah, that's a very fair guess. Yeah, but we'll probably see a beta in the
00:14:07
next couple weeks considering IO is in one week. Keep an eye out for that. Yeah. Everybody, if you if anybody sees
00:14:13
the Android 16 beta with this stuff in it before I see it, tweet it at me cuz I
00:14:19
I want to install it on my Pixel. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Um, where OS 6 is coming out, which adds material 3
00:14:25
expressive as well, which is just kind of a visual refresh of where OS. Big
00:14:30
buttons. Big buttons. Big buttons. Shape morphing elements as they call it. Yeah.
00:14:35
10% better battery life, which is always welcome if that's true. They're also
00:14:41
adding Gemini to the watch. Yeah, you know, they added Gemini to all the things. They added Gemini to all the things. That was actually a bigger I the
00:14:49
one thing they didn't add it to was their home products, but they they went Gemini to the watch. Then they also went Gemini to Android Auto and TV and and
00:14:56
Gemini to Android Google TV. Isn't that ironic? Which is we'll get there in a minute. It it deserves to be in all
00:15:02
those places. If you bought a Google Home and it's still Google Assistant, that's the one place where I'm like, are they going to update those to Gemini or
00:15:09
are those forever Google Assistant? Which is the irony because Google Assistant came out first on the first Google Home? Yeah. So, so is it doomed?
00:15:17
They have to buy another one with Gemini. That seems terrible. Yeah, you can software update those. It'll probably update it to it. I hope so.
00:15:23
They'll just explode. A resident uh Pixel Watch user wants to say something. Oh, boy. I'm so excited. It's going to
00:15:29
be so good. All of it. Just the watch, your shape morphing elements just really
00:15:36
I'm excited for new shapes, new sounds, different colors, optics, fun buttons. Buttons. Honestly, it seems like it's a
00:15:41
nice little upgrade for the watch. Do you trust Gemini on your watch, Mariah? I trust nobody. It's not personal.
00:15:48
It's not Gemini or not Gemini. Well, because at this moment, if you want to trigger assistant on the watch, it's
00:15:53
Google Assistant on the watch. So, if you have a phone assistant and a watch assistant that are two different assistants with different capabilities,
00:15:59
that's annoying. And you got Bixby on the, you know, so so at least having Gemini be as many places as possible
00:16:06
makes sense. I really do wonder though about Google Homes. Yeah, we'll see. Um, okay. I'm very excited that is coming to
00:16:13
Google TV. That Gemini is coming to Google TV. There is actually a lot of natural language use cases with Google
00:16:18
TV that make tons of sense where you can say, "Show me a movie that's" and then just describe the type of movie you want
00:16:24
to see. Assuming it works, could be cool. Not only that, but more importantly, which freaking platform
00:16:31
it's on. Like because like Google TV has all the different platforms integrated into it. You don't have to be like
00:16:36
sometimes we pick the movie and then I have to Google what streaming service it's Well, when the chcast with Google
00:16:43
TV first came out, that was probably the best feature is that you can say the movie and it shows you where you can
00:16:49
watch it. That's ideal. It's so ideal. Um, so that's really nice. You can you
00:16:54
can ask for a type of movie that you want to watch. can also like look up more info about certain characters. You
00:16:59
can ask just Gemini random questions where it will pull up web info. So, it kind of makes your TV this like catch
00:17:06
all portal where you can watch content and also sort of surf the web with your voice in a way which is going to be
00:17:12
useful for kids obviously because they're just going to have a million questions about Coco Melon. Cocoon,
00:17:18
you know, why is it how do I tell my TV to ban Coco Melon? Yeah, but I think the the worst part about smart TVs is
00:17:25
controlling them. So, the more we can use our voice in a a better way than just like finding the the microphone
00:17:32
icon, pressing the microphone icon, and then trying to get it to actually listen to you, like yeah, being able to control
00:17:38
it a bit more should make smart TVs a better possibly hot take, but Google's ecosystem of like other stuff that's
00:17:44
running on Android, like Google TV is like so much better than Apple TV in my
00:17:49
opinion. I don't use Apple TV and I agree with you. The remote is the worst thing in history and even the new remote
00:17:55
is like better but not that much better. Yeah. From an F to a C minus. Yeah. Yeah, pretty much. Uh it's also coming
00:18:02
to cars which is going to be really useful because it can read things back to you. You can send things back. You can just do Gemini Live in the car which
00:18:10
is very Whoa. I kind of hate myself for this but I really like Gemini Live now.
00:18:15
Welcome to the train, brother. I love Gemini Live. I've been talking to it a lot. Me, too. It's And if I just like
00:18:21
wanted to Google something and probably will have a follow-up question or two, I just default to Gemini live now because
00:18:26
I'll just think of my question and then just keep talking versus having to go, "Hey, G again." and then phrase a new
00:18:31
question about the thing I asked about before. It's just better. I had Okay, I just want to give this example. So, I was biking somewhere two days ago and my
00:18:39
chain came off and I was like panicking and I was like, I have no idea how to get this chain back on my bike. And
00:18:44
instead of, you know, googling a step-by-step guide that I would be like guided to wikihow or whatever, it just
00:18:51
told me and it was like most bikes have the spoke thing. You just pull back on it and I was just I just did and then it
00:18:56
worked and I was like it's so funny that you mentioned WikiHow because they were getting all the traffic from that query
00:19:02
before. No. And now it's just Google telling you the answer which is a success for the user cuz I got the
00:19:08
answer but but it destroys a whole rabbit hole of Yeah, we talked about that before like who's going to write the content. Yeah. So that's a whole
00:19:16
another thing. Um can I say something really quick? Did you notice that they said coming to Android Auto or cars with
00:19:23
Google builtin, which is uh the polestar, but are we So, it used to be
00:19:29
Android Automotive was a car that specifically had the UI running Android
00:19:34
versus your phone running Android. I do agree that that's like a little confusing. Auto, but I don't know why
00:19:40
cars with Google builtin sounds worse. It Yeah, it doesn't roll off the tongue. It's horribly branded, but it is a very
00:19:46
useful feature. There's a We're testing a Cadillac Lyric right now that has Google builtin, has a Play Store. You
00:19:52
can just download Spotify right in there. Download Ways. It shows up in the car. It's all built in. Those cars all have Google Assistant right now. Throw
00:19:58
Gemini in there, too. Yes, please. With that brand new car has Google Assistant. Yeah, it'll probably be updated to Gemini. Exactly.
00:20:06
It'll be in and obviously Android Auto is beaming from your phone to the car. That will obviously get the new Gemini
00:20:13
as well. So, it's all useful. This is everything I ever wanted. Yeah. Uh, also it Gemini is coming to
00:20:21
Android XR, which we already knew. I don't know why they showed that again. Yeah. Yeah. And it seems like at the end of it, they said like we'll be Didn't
00:20:29
they like make a little tease to showing off glasses? They did. They showed the him putting on glasses, but then the
00:20:35
video they showed was what we saw in Project Muhan, right? At the very very
00:20:41
end, they teased a pair of glasses, which I guess they haven't ever actually
00:20:46
shown yet. Have they shown the glasses? Yeah, there was a there was a whole section where there was like a Google
00:20:51
person like using the glasses to talk to her grandma in a different language or something. So, they used him putting the
00:20:56
shades on to signify that there's more coming on that front. Yeah. And then that was it. So, we don't know what more
00:21:02
is, but we've seen some weird glasses stuff in the past. I don't know if we've seen like a specific model or anything.
00:21:07
The Samsung event had the timeline where it showed glasses next to Muhan and also
00:21:13
next to a triple folding device. Google has shown actual glasses off though. Yeah. Have they I know they did the
00:21:19
thing where all the reporters got to go to it, but they weren't allowed to like show photos or anything. That was Muhan.
00:21:25
That was like an early No, cuz we were the first people who saw Muhan and that was before that. I read about there was
00:21:31
people who did demos of the glasses as well. They couldn't show photos or videos of it, but they could describe it
00:21:36
to people. Oh, I feel like I haven't even It's very confusing. The way they seem to be rolling this out seems really
00:21:41
confusing, but we were the first people to see or show Muhan at least. Well, there were reports that the new Google
00:21:47
glasses are going to be at IO and that reporter is going to be able to test them. I will be there. So, I'll give you
00:21:52
my hot takes. We shall see if they let you record it. Definitely check it out. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah, we'll see if we
00:21:58
can break your embargo. Yeah, let us know. Google also made a Find My Hub basically. So, they h they had one. And
00:22:05
they had find my device. Yeah. But they updated it. They updated it. I mean, we all know, you've probably seen what
00:22:12
iPhones have, which is this hub where you can find my friends, find my devices, find or Air Tags all in one
00:22:19
place, basically. And that's what they put together here. So, you can share all of your contacts, locations, you can
00:22:25
find these in one place. You can also find any of the things that are in your devices like trackers, chipo cards,
00:22:31
whatever it is. And it's all in one place. And that's nice and convenient. But it's cool because you can also do
00:22:37
find my for your friends, which you could name find my friends, but that's already taken. That's taken. So it's
00:22:44
Find My with Friends builtin. Find my or friends with Find My builtin. Find My
00:22:50
builtin. Find my Google friends by my Google friends. Yeah. Yeah. I I think it's cool. I think Google is really
00:22:56
trying to mirror Apple's ecosystem and they're finally getting to that point.
00:23:01
The main problem for them right now is nobody wants a Chromebook. And uh that's
00:23:06
really the main problem. Is that the main problem? They've got pretty much everything else and they have arguably more because you know they have stuff in
00:23:13
the cars cuz Apple never launched their built-in CarPlay thing that they car.
00:23:19
Yeah. Like like Apple even without launching the built-in CarPlay thing is still on a lot of people's screens.
00:23:25
Either way, this is definitely an effort to sort of match what Apple's doing there. I did like there was one and I
00:23:32
don't because I don't use Find My Friends, so I don't know if this is available in it, but it was like you could share your tracking for a time
00:23:39
limit, too. So, it could be like because like maybe I don't want someone tracking me all the time, but I want them to make
00:23:44
sure I get home. Okay. So, it could be like share my location for 1 hour, which they have on. Do they have that on
00:23:49
there? Great idea. Yeah, they're just copying all of the stuff, which is great. I'm It's good that they're doing it. Uh, also with the Find My stuff,
00:23:56
they announced some collaborations with some airlines. They didn't say what airlines it was, but they said that you
00:24:02
could share your Find My tags and Find My devices with the airlines, so it was easy for them for your bag, which I'm
00:24:09
never doing. I agree with you because they're going to lie to you. Yes. And you have the info like you know. Yeah.
00:24:16
Yeah. Why would the airline The airline should already know where my bags are because they tag everything and scan it
00:24:22
every time. But if they somehow lose it, then I have the information of where GPS is. I'm not sharing that with anybody.
00:24:29
And also, why why do I want I'm sure there's some sort of cut off, but why do I want the potential of United knowing
00:24:35
where my bag is at all times? Now it knows where I live. Now it knows where it's been to. Like I you do not need to
00:24:41
know that, United. Yeah. And they announced a collaboration with a couple of actual suitcase partners that are
00:24:47
going to have uh Android's find my builtin as well, which is interesting. The airline should be finding a couple
00:24:53
new air traffic controllers for Newark instead of my bag. Okay, grandpa. Be nice. That's facts though. When I fly
00:24:59
out of New York today, we'll see if I even fly out of New York today. Godspeed, David. Thank you. Keep us posted on if your delay is over or
00:25:05
under. I'm setting it at 5 and a half hours. It's already at 1 hour and I'm supposed to leave at 5, so we'll see.
00:25:11
Like I said, five and a half. Um, one last thing for Google. Yeah, there's a
00:25:16
new logo kind of. It's not actually the new Google logo so much as you know how
00:25:22
when you have a tab with Google open, there's a little icon that represents the the lo the favicon is what it's
00:25:27
called. Yeah, it's just a new one of those. Yeah, cuz this logo doesn't really appear anywhere else. I believe
00:25:33
they updated it in the iOS app for Google search and potentially the
00:25:39
Android app as well. the G the singular G logo. The singular G logo. This is where that appears.
00:25:46
Yeah, it's four different colors. It used to have a hard cut off. Now it is a
00:25:51
gradient between the colors. I hate it. I think it's beautiful. I hate it. It's beautiful. Gemini like
00:25:58
they're they're adding all this brand cohesion and Gemini is already this really nice like aquamarine sort of cyan
00:26:06
blue that kind of melds into green and it's very cool. And so they're they're sort of just blending that with the
00:26:12
regular Google logo. Google blends too much. They already screwed up all the other app logos by making them all look
00:26:18
exactly the same. Like maps looks exactly the same. Photos looks like they're all too similar cuz they feel
00:26:24
compelled to use all four colors in every logo. Which is funny now cuz Gemini is not that, right? Yeah. And
00:26:30
it's fine. Yeah. I think it's Yeah, I could talk while they didn't have to go.
00:26:36
We asked Michael and Tim about this because we're like, "Oh, designers, tell us what to think." And then we realized
00:26:43
that the old logo itself also doesn't really make a lot of sense. It is not equally portioned off. None of the lines
00:26:49
really connect to each other. Like the line between green and yellow connecting to the end of the top of the G. There's
00:26:56
like a bunch of extra space on the G. And I don't know. interesting to me now
00:27:02
is how do you say what the official hex value colors of this is? And also also
00:27:09
uh they seem to be different like it seems like they upped the luminance
00:27:14
values of all four colors so that they're not as lighter. All all of them are lighter. Even the green the green is
00:27:21
lighter unless that's one of those optical illusion things. For some reason I think this specific image is a little
00:27:26
less a little lower quality than the other ones. I don't know if that's part of it, but the the gradient is long and
00:27:32
makes the red feel orange a third like 30% shorter. I love it. I hate it. Uh I
00:27:40
want to say one more thing really quickly before we take a break. Speaking of Google, they are replacing or at
00:27:47
least testing replacing the I'm feeling lucky button, which if you don't know what that is, it's it's a call back to
00:27:52
the original version of Google when you could just press this button and it would send you to a random web page,
00:27:59
which was very similar to uh or a random search, I think, which is similar to the
00:28:05
um Wikipedia random article button. Mhm. and they've just kept it there forever,
00:28:11
which I found very funny because it probably got almost no use, but they're replacing it with an AI mode button,
00:28:18
which is basically like when you put in a search query, you press the AI mode button and it's just Gemini but in a
00:28:26
separate UX where it kind of looks like a search but you're talking to it. Mhm.
00:28:32
And I really think that ne because originally remember what happened is they basically made AI mode like default
00:28:38
and they would put the AI answer at the top. People got mad about that. They've kind of been messing around with it. But now they're giving you the option to
00:28:44
just like do you want to chat about this query instead of searching for this query. If that takes away defaulting to
00:28:51
the AI right off the top and lets me choose, all for it. Yeah. Also, the I'm
00:28:56
feeling lucky button was a little different. It was you typed in your query and then it took you to one of the random results.
00:29:02
what that was. So rather than having to scroll down, that's a horrible idea.
00:29:07
It also if you press it without a search query will take you to a random then it just went to random. Okay. Yeah, that's dangerous. But it's also not random.
00:29:14
It's curated. Well, yeah. Okay. It's kind of a horrible idea to take you to a random link based on that search query
00:29:19
though because like doesn't isn't the point of Google that they rank things and that's their whole thing? I feel
00:29:25
like I thought it was specifically a top ranked. It might be the top ranked. I thought it was the top. You're feeling lucky. I feel like uh the thing the
00:29:31
number one thing is look like you don't even have to look at the list. It just takes you to the first one. That would
00:29:36
make sense. Yeah, I'm seeing some people say it was a random result based on the search query r/zelennials
00:29:44
where I get all my information from. Nice. I think I have an answer, folks. I'm I'm trying to find a second source
00:29:49
that confirms this, but if I ask Gemini, my preliminary research indicates that it would take you to the top ranked
00:29:57
result for your query. Oh, makes sense. Check that. So, it's just a faster way to get to your web page if you trust
00:30:02
Google that much or if you're uh feeling lucky. Go to the casino. Let's Oh, well,
00:30:09
actually, and I was going to say by that I mean trivia.
00:30:14
Was that I was sort of I was sort of flirting with the idea and I decided to just send it. No, you should have sent
00:30:20
it. Always send it. All right, folks. Google's logo has
00:30:27
changed a bunch over the years, but one thing has always stayed
00:30:33
consistent. Their logo has always been six characters long. G O O G L E. Six
00:30:41
characters. But what I just said was a lie. Because from October 30th, 1998 to
00:30:49
May 30th, 1999, Google's logo had seven characters in it.
00:30:55
What was the seventh character? Seven. Sleepy. Oh, I think I know. Oh,
00:31:04
sleepy. Hey, very nice. Scrappydoo. Is he actually the seventh dwarf? Wait,
00:31:10
that's Scrappydoo is not a dwarf. I'm just naming like peripheral. Oh, I was talking about the seven dwarfs. Yeah, I
00:31:16
got scrappy. Mhm. Wait, you weren't talking about Sleepydoo? You know, like
00:31:21
all of the different personified Scooby-Doo expanded siblings. Expanded universe. That's the next
00:31:28
I don't know any of the other Squirtle
00:31:34
name. We'll be We'll be right back. Five Pokemon.

to the the water fountain. Is that what it is? The watering hole. It's the watering hole. The local watering hole.
00:32:51
And we do it multiple times a day, but water's boring. Water is boring. Yeah. I found that
00:32:57
having a drawer full of different flavors has me more likely to actually drinking all day and keeping that optimal hydration and you know northeast
00:33:05
summer temperatures and humidity is starting. So, it's pretty much a necessity. It is terrible outside. It is

00:33:34
real phone to talk about. Which one should we do first? The real one. I agree. I think we should do the real one
00:33:40
first. The real phone is we got first hands-on and impressions with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. I saw you
00:33:46
wouldn't go to reach for it. I have I have here the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra,
00:33:51
which by comparison is a mega thick phone uh at 8.2 mm. Jeez, it's crazy. I
00:33:58
So I we we got to see it. We got confirmed specs. We got confirmed dimensions for the first time when we saw it. And I still like even looking at
00:34:07
it right in front of me before they let me pick it up, I was like, it's it's thin, but it's not that much thinner.
00:34:12
And then they said the dimensions. They said 5.8 mm thick. And I was like, "Okay, yeah, it's thinner, but
00:34:18
whatever." And then you hold it and you're like, "Oh, wo. This This is really really thin." Really? Yeah. It's
00:34:25
weird. It even on video of my own hands holding it, it doesn't look that much thinner, but it is very noticeably
00:34:31
thinner to hold. So, that's what Edge is. The Edge is a phone that lives somewhere between the S25 and S25 Plus
00:34:39
and the S25 Ultra. It's $1099 US. It's more expensive. It's more expensive than
00:34:44
the Plus. It's less expensive than the theoretically brand new Ultra, and it's just thinner. It has the camera from the
00:34:52
Ultra, the primary camera from the Ultra. It's weird. It has a 12 megapixel ultrawide. It has no telephoto. Okay.
00:34:59
And it has a 3,900 mAh battery, titanium rails. Uh, yeah, it's just a thin thin
00:35:05
phone. So, question. Yeah. Uh, it's not silicon carbon. It's not. Yeah. Let's
00:35:11
play the play the sound. Which what? I don't know. Like a sad sad one. No, like a sad one. Like a
00:35:17
trombone. Bad. No, don't do that. That was a good one. Yeah. Yeah. It's not
00:35:22
silicon carbon. And And I And people asked about this and we got a no from Samsung. And I kind of wonder if it was
00:35:28
how much bigger the battery could have been because the obvious comment is,
00:35:33
"Hey Samsung, we all just want a phone with better battery at the same thickness and all of your new phones
00:35:40
don't have silicon carbon. if you did do this ultra thin phone, if you did silicon carbon, it could have had the
00:35:45
same battery life and that would have been fine, but they didn't. So, that was a little bit of a head scratcher. Maybe
00:35:52
maybe the next version, maybe some I don't I don't know when they plan on moving to that. I think it is a scale
00:35:58
question. Um, if you ever look at the numbers and how how much volume these
00:36:04
silicon carbon battery phones are, the Samsung would be by far the biggest. So maybe they can't quite secure quality
00:36:10
batteries at that scale yet. I have so many things that I want you to test during the review cuz like I want to
00:36:15
know does it get hotter when you're charging it cuz there's less thickness. Yeah. So I said so I I would say watch
00:36:22
the watch the impressions video if you haven't already seen it. We'll link it in the show notes. My main questions I mean obviously there's less room in the
00:36:28
phone which means okay less battery probably less room for thermal I mean
00:36:34
not probably obviously less room for thermal solutions. So, is it going to get warm? It charges at 25 watts, which
00:36:39
is the same as the S25 Plus. Um, but the S25 Plus had a 4,900 mAh battery, and
00:36:45
this is 3900. Yeah. And it is. Yeah. It's just It's so It's so
00:36:51
thin. Perfect opportunity for this. Yeah. Seems like a big miss. Sounds like their easy upgrade for next year. Yeah.
00:36:59
I wonder I wonder scale. So, that is the Edge. I I'm curious to review the phone.
00:37:05
It's going to come out. I know for a fact the battery will be worse than all the rest of the S25 lineup because it's
00:37:10
the same chip, the same screen, it's the same everything else. It's just a smaller battery. So, how much worse is
00:37:17
TBD? And then the other question is like who is this for? And will they actually be okay with this phone? And that's that
00:37:25
part is tricky. I think there's a theoretical person out there that does
00:37:31
want the camera from the Ultra, the main camera, and does want to upgrade from
00:37:38
the base S25s, but doesn't want a thick
00:37:43
large phone with a stylus that they don't have to carry around. It's not even thick. I don't know who this person
00:37:49
is or how many of this person exists, but it is it could be a good fit for I
00:37:54
just think if you weren't sacrificing arguably one of the most important things in the phone if they were able to
00:38:00
fit the same capacity, it would make sense because it would be like, I'm paying the extra money for the extra
00:38:06
flashiness of it being thinner, but I'm not really sacrificing much. But now you're sacrificing a lot and you have to
00:38:12
pay more money for a feature that nobody asked for. I think this is the big question is going to be does Apple have
00:38:19
the same angle and do they secure silicon carbon at their scale? That's a
00:38:24
great question because Apple is going to ship a lot of iPhones like they usually do, probably more than Samsung will ship
00:38:30
this S25 Edge. Are they going to have silicon carbon in that or are they also not going to have silicon carbon? You
00:38:36
don't think so? They never say anything about their battery size or they're consistently the smallest battery sizes. They seem to not care. They're they have
00:38:43
software efficiency. That's what makes it a hard sell for me cuz if you're Apple, I feel like the magic of that is you have to be able to go, we did this
00:38:50
amazing magical Apple thing where we have a thinner phone that has the same battery life, which you could do a
00:38:55
silicon carbon and not say silicon carbon. Yeah, you could just go we could. I still don't think they do it.
00:39:00
And I I think you're probably we should bet cuz I think they do it. I if if I
00:39:06
have to go pure logic on Samsung couldn't, I know they would want to, right? It makes too much sense. Samsung
00:39:12
couldn't. M makes me think that Apple also can't. Here's my other reasoning
00:39:17
why. This has a 3900 mAh battery. The iPhone 16 has a 3,200 mAh battery. So,
00:39:25
if you can fit a 3900 milliamp into this small one, you can also fit a 32 milliamp wire. I don't think they're
00:39:31
going to want to make the battery that much bigger. So, so they can already fit Plus or is that No, this regular 16 has
00:39:38
This is a tall phone though, right? the the air the edge sorry the edge is big
00:39:43
the edge is the same size as the S25 plus plus yeah I yeah it's still
00:39:49
32 between 39 like what is the iPhone 16 so I think you're right about battery
00:39:56
size but iPhones have always had relatively small battery capacities
00:40:01
compared to Android phones because they're so optimized that they don't have to have that raw 500 sorry So, I
00:40:10
think it will be smaller, but I still think relative to the larger iPhones, it's going to be a smaller battery, and
00:40:16
it has to be because of how thin it is. And I think that's going to make the battery life worse. And I think they
00:40:22
have to either justify that or fix it. Yeah. So, it will probably be a 2700
00:40:28
millah battery in the iPhone Air. Then, what do they do? Well, if we want to talk about the iPhone Air, one thing
00:40:34
they're already getting rid of, according to this case manufacturer leak, they're getting rid of one of the
00:40:39
cameras on the iPhone Air. So, there is more room in there already. One camera. One camera and a Pixel visor. Okay, this
00:40:47
is the also thing. The thing that I am I'm trying to figure out is where will they position it in the lineup? Because
00:40:53
Samsung just put the Edge right in the middle of their lineup. Apple has used the word Air before to mean the bottom
00:40:59
of the lineup. Yeah. And I think they might do that considering what they've
00:41:05
sh what we've seen from these leaks which is one camera. It feels like it's the bottom of the line. Wait, isn't air for the iPad in between the regular iPad
00:41:12
and the Pro? So with the iPad, it's the base iPad than the iPad Air than the
00:41:18
iPad Pro. So it's like it's not the Pro, but it's it's the shape. It's the shape of a Pro, right? That's what they
00:41:24
usually do. Like it's fancier and it's flashier, but it isn't as powerful as the Pro model. But with the MacBooks, at
00:41:32
the bottom is the Air and then there's the MacBook Pro above that. So the Air is the bottom and it's the thinnest and
00:41:38
lightest and that's what Air meant and then you have Pro above it is you need more power and so the baseline that most people buy is the Air, right? So which
00:41:45
one of those do they do with me? When I see single camera, I think baseline. I think S I mean the SE has or the 16e is
00:41:52
the only one with one camera right now. So, if the Air is going to have one camera and then the base has two cameras and the Pro has three cameras, to me,
00:41:58
that hierarchy makes sense. It makes sense. But if you think about it as less of how many cameras it has and how many
00:42:05
cameras did it take away, Samsung took away a camera, but put it above a c a phone that has three
00:42:12
cameras, which is weird. Yeah. Yeah. It's funny that you went to How many
00:42:17
cameras does it have? one feels like the bottom. And I first thought of how many cameras did they take away and where can
00:42:23
it go? I guess Samsung is less uh clear about like Pro has the most cameras because well the Ultra has an extra
00:42:30
extra telephoto and then the S25s have a single telephoto and then this Air this
00:42:37
Edge has no telephoto. I have a I have a take. Okay. Okay. So I think that Apple is way more fashion forward and like do
00:42:45
you have the new thing forward, right? Like the Samsung people who the people who buy Samsung phones are either people
00:42:51
who just need a phone and just go to the carrier store and just buy the Android thing because they know Samsung the
00:42:56
brand or they're like the power users who want to buy the Ultra and they know that the Ultra is consistently one of
00:43:01
the best Android phones of the year and they want the most powerful thing. And so the the air for them is like there's
00:43:07
not really that big of a group of Samsung users who are like, I want to show off to people that I've got the
00:43:14
thinnest, newest thing. Whereas Apple consistently tries to slightly tweak the
00:43:21
look of something just to make sure people know you have the new one. Like with the the Ultra 2 watch, it's just
00:43:27
black. Yeah, exactly. Right. That's how you know. And so I think the air for
00:43:32
Apple they they can charge more for because people are going to be more willing to pay for something that is
00:43:39
clearly newer than Samsung users are who just want something that is better and don't care as much about it being newer.
00:43:46
What I'll fight back on that is is according to this other they show this case manufacturer autofly also showed
00:43:52
the iPhone 17 Pro which is a totally different back as well. So it kind of feels like the entire lineup is going to
00:43:58
be newer for sure. for showing. So then all no matter what you buy is the newest
00:44:04
thing. I think that's the take because if the iPhone 17 air the only things
00:44:10
that we know about it is it has less battery and less cameras. How do you charge more for it?
00:44:18
So, I think because all of the new iPhone 17s have this new visor aesthetic, then that's their aesthetic
00:44:23
thing to be like, "Oh, you have the new one." And then it'll be single camera, thin one is the base, dual camera is the
00:44:30
mid, and then three cameras is the pro. Can you believe that they just released the E and now they're going to do this
00:44:36
and then they're going to have the fold next year? How many iPhones are we gonna freaking have? I keep hearing that, but like Samsung has 17 million phones.
00:44:43
Like, we never complain, but it's like, oh, the iPhone is usually only three phones. Yeah, but now when they have five, it's like a it's a lot. I feel
00:44:48
like arguably part of the reason that a lot of people who don't want to think about their purchase buy iPhones is cuz
00:44:53
it's like the lineup is you don't have to use a single brain cell to decide what phone you want. Yeah. You just go
00:44:59
in with like here's how much I want to spend and then okay, they've got a phone at your price. Although with Samsung, it's like do you want to spend $99? Do
00:45:05
you want to spend $119? Do you want to spend $149? Do you want to spend $229? Cuz they have a phone at every single price. Yeah.
00:45:13
500 600 700 800 900,000 11 12
00:45:20
folding one that's even higher and maybe the air slots in somewhere. I feel like I think that they are going to say it's
00:45:27
going to have the same battery life and because they are going to do that I think it is going to be more expensive
00:45:33
than the regular iPhone but less than the Pro. So you're going silicon carbon.
00:45:39
Yeah. Okay. That's my guess. All right. Oh, I just wanted to say I'm constantly confused as the person editing these
00:45:44
videos trying to figure out the hierarchy of what phone is which is a total nightmare. Yeah. And if you skip a
00:45:51
year and you don't pay attention, suddenly there's something new. Yeah. Yeah. Air air has more than one meaning
00:45:57
in Apple land already, which is why it's not like a guaranteed sure thing where they're going to put this one. Yeah. Do
00:46:03
you know the uh we're not allowed to make basketball references on the podcast anymore. I thought we were only
00:46:09
everyone likes that except for me. Yeah, everyone sure loves when we make basketball comments. But to reference
00:46:16
another sport that no one said we're not allowed to talk about yet. Uh Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus. What's
00:46:23
Lotus? A car company that competes in F1. Oh. Um
00:46:29
they don't anymore. Lotus. Yeah. When did they stop? I don't know. But they're
00:46:34
Gemini. Fake fan. Um So it's the guy who said the wrong thing to start. No, no, no, no, no. Anyway, he
00:46:43
has this quote talking about the the Lotus F1 cars of the '60s where he says
00:46:48
um he talks about his design philosophy and he says simplify and add lightness.
00:46:54
It's never take stuff away to make the car lighter. It's always add lightness. And I feel like that is the Apple
00:47:01
philosophy with what they put air on. Like we're gonna add more and it's going to be less. Huh. There the Renault Sport
00:47:10
Formula 1 team which became Alpine. Yeah. It said that Lotus stopped in
00:47:16
2015. They got sold to Renault was purchased by Renault and then Renault is Alpine. Fake fan. I'm the real F1 fan
00:47:23
here. Uh back to Oh my god. What is that? What
00:47:31
is chicane? An attempted F1 segue. Is that a racer? I got it. I understand it.
00:47:36
Chicane is actually the most winning F1 driver in history. His name is Chick A.
00:47:42
Chick A. Yeah. And he's just stellar. Yeah. 68 championships. He's going to
00:47:48
believe this. You have to stop messing with me. There's no way that I can tell whether or not this is real or not. He's going to believe this. 68 champions.
00:47:55
Just kidding. We've been talking about basketball the whole time. Yeah. Shane is a basketball player. I literally would have believed that if you had not
00:48:02
um back to the iPhones. Kevin Durant, baby. Kevin Durant. Yeah, I agree with
00:48:07
David that I think this will be a middle of the lineup. I don't think this is cheapest. And I I also think it will
00:48:14
have the same battery life but not be silicon carbide. But that's because the battery life's just all day battery
00:48:20
life. Stop asking questions. It's all day. The day might be December 25th and
00:48:26
it only is the day till 5:00, but it's an all day battery. What if it is worse battery life, but they just still say
00:48:31
all day? That is so real. Agree. We all know that's what's going to happen, right? Oh my god. I would just be
00:48:36
insulted if I was an Apple customer and they were like, "Yeah, here's our much much thinner phone that has much less
00:48:43
battery, but it's but it's the same all day battery." Okay, wait. If it is worse though, what older iPhone are they going
00:48:50
to like? You know how like with the 16e they're comparing it to like the iPhone 12, like are they going to be like compared to the iPhone 7 compared to
00:48:59
it? Speaking compared to my 2,000 milliamp 12 mini. Speaking of old iPhones, um I was trying and failing to
00:49:06
switch back to Android this weekend uh because iMessage is just the worst thing
00:49:11
ever and trying to dregister it. Yeah, it's a great service that is horrible in every other way. I was
00:49:19
trying to dregister it and get RCS working. And anyway, Apple has a manual
00:49:24
like dregister your account from iMessage page on their website where you can put in your phone number and it it
00:49:30
theoretically puts it through the servers even though it didn't do it for me. The phone they show on that is an iPhone 5. They've not they've
00:49:38
intentionally not updated that page since the iPhone 5 because they're like, "Yeah, we'll give you the resource, but
00:49:45
you we don't want you to use it." Yeah. We don't want you to feel like we're prioritizing this. Yeah. So, yeah,
00:49:50
that's why I have two phones is I just want I need to ask you about that later. Anyway, that's a whole another thing.
00:49:56
I'm surprised that page doesn't have the like, are you sure you want to go away from this? It's scary out there. You
00:50:03
cannot control what happens on Android. And then it texts like all of your contacts automatically like David's
00:50:10
loser. David's a loser. Um, okay. Well, we're going to take a hard left turn
00:50:17
just like you would through the just like you would if you were left and a right on a run while you were wearing a
00:50:25
whoop. A whoop. Did you guys follow this at all this week? I did. It's pretty funny. really if you on right now search
00:50:33
on Google um Whoop 5.0, you get three
00:50:39
uh three links all one day apart that goes uh Whoop wants everyone to give a
00:50:46
whoop about their new band. Then it goes, "Whoop angers users over free upgrade promises. Whoop backpedals on
00:50:51
its paid upgrade. Whoops." So whoops. Whoops. Sorry. Let's just define what a
00:50:56
Whoop is for people that might not know. Uh, it's a smartwatch for people who don't want the watch. Yeah. Which is a
00:51:03
smart bracelet. It is a smart bracelet, which you know, I say fitness band.
00:51:08
Fitness. And it's it's specific. I I don't wear one, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it's specifically focused on recovery. Right. Right. Like that's what
00:51:15
sort of sets it apart. That's sort of its like headlining features or recovery score basically. Body battery. That's a
00:51:22
No, that's body batteries. Garmins. Same idea. I think Whoop. I'm sure they didn't start it, but they were very
00:51:28
focused on recovery and training like to start, and I think a lot of ones caught up, which I'll talk about later, but
00:51:34
yes, that's their whole thing. Everyone thinks Whoop kind of has like the best performance metrics, I guess, right? But
00:51:41
yeah, it's a there's no time. There's no anything on the actual device. Um, it's
00:51:47
a bracelet, but I like seeing the time. It kind of looks like a slap bracelet.
00:51:52
It does look like a slap bracelet. Uh, Andrew, do you want to break down the drama? Sure, I'll go. Um, well, let's
00:51:58
start it off with what they released, which is the Whoop 5.0. Um, actually, they released the Whoop 5.0 and the
00:52:04
Whoop MG, which stands for medical grade. These new devices, um, what
00:52:11
milligram? Um, they offer new bands, there's leather options, which are not backwards compatible with the old
00:52:16
devices. And one of the big things they releases is new tiers of subscriptions. So Whoop is like famously because the
00:52:23
device itself is pretty simple. So much of it comes in the software and the
00:52:28
algorithm that they're playing with all the different metrics and it's super expensive. You usually are buying like one or two year subscriptions to it,
00:52:35
paying in advance to get discounts on that. And you upgrade as you go with the subscriptions and they're not cheap. But
00:52:41
notably uh you don't need you never needed to buy a new Whoop if you had the
00:52:47
subscription. So, if you had a Whoop, Whoop 2, whatever, when the new one would come out, you were supposed to get the band for free because the
00:52:53
subscription is so expensive. Yeah. The little uh not just the band, the actual tracker too that it like connects into.
00:53:00
Sorry, I meant the Yeah. Um and so there's different tiers now. So, there's depending on the tier and depending on
00:53:06
which device you have, since there's two different ones, they all do different things. They're either $199 a year, $239
00:53:13
a year, or $359 a year. And they include different Yeah, tracking or whatever you
00:53:19
want to say. Um I'm sure if you're really into this, you like all the different ones, but uh
00:53:25
yeah, I don't really care about anything other than the the lowest tier. Yeah. Um and then so like what David said, or
00:53:34
actually real quick, I wanted to say something because I think it's very funny. When you look at these memberships, there's a little link that says additional medical information
00:53:40
below, which basically just brings you to four different asterisks about how all these different things are not actual for medical use, which we all
00:53:47
agree on. But then calling something the medical grade version and then immediately saying this is not for
00:53:52
medical use felt weird. Just don't call it the medical grade version, right? Like we're using the same components as
00:53:59
they use at the hospital, but it hasn't actually been certified. And like the stuff we're giving you doesn't
00:54:05
necessarily mean we're giving you all the correct information that actual this is not financial advice. Yeah. Basically
00:54:11
basically it's literally that pretty much that. Um but the backlash comes from when they announced this they
00:54:18
showed that you could extend your membership for 12 months and receive the new hardware or you can pay a onetime
00:54:24
upgrade fee which was either $49 for the 5.0 or $79 for the new hardware. The
00:54:29
issue is right before they announced this and up to within I think two months
00:54:35
of when like the Verge posted this screenshot um from their website as late
00:54:40
as it's like March 28th, so not that long ago. And on their website it says just like other memberships, Whoop is
00:54:46
committed to releasing new and regular updates constantly without requiring the purchase of a new device. All updates are available within the app.
00:54:53
Um, additionally, instead of purchasing new hardware every time an updated model is produced, Whoop members receive the
00:54:58
next generation for free a after having been a member for 6 months or more.
00:55:04
Yeah. This was saying you need to renew for 12 months. So, totally different.
00:55:09
Yeah. So, they removed this verbiage that said that you got new hardware for free as long as you were a member for 12
00:55:15
month six months or more like a couple of months before the new one came out.
00:55:20
and then required an upgrade is what they're saying which required either buying 12 more months or a onetime fee
00:55:28
of buying the actual device. The reason this is like really important is because a lot of people the way they sell the
00:55:35
Whoop membership is you can buy within you can buy a year or you can buy two years. You may even be able to buy three
00:55:40
years but they they make each month cheaper. You get a discount by doing that. So being there are a lot of people
00:55:46
who are six months into their Whoop membership and still have a year and a half left who don't want to add 12 more
00:55:53
months on top of that or pay 50 bucks. It's just straight up not what they were promised, right? Um so you know Whoop
00:56:00
post this to Reddit, their Whoop Reddit to get a bunch of feedback and immediately just get annihilated by the
00:56:06
comments because shocker. Of course, yeah, it's the internet. It lives forever. People immediately found where
00:56:13
it promised and everyone in the comments was like, "I'm cancing. This is literally the exact opposite thing of
00:56:19
why I purchased Whooped. I was going to get free upgrades on devices. I only ever had to care about my subscription.
00:56:25
Now you're charging me $50 or $80." The number one rule of the internet is never charge for something that was previously
00:56:30
free. Yeah. Yeah. This was This like semi reminds me of like the Rivian like,
00:56:36
"Oh, you guys all made your pre-order and now we're charging more for it and then had to backtrack on it." I'm glad
00:56:42
we're at the point where the internet's big enough where we can uh make companies give us what they actually
00:56:48
promised. Well, a lot of people were cancelling. I'm sure they were. This is a community that's like, you know, the
00:56:54
Apple Watch. If Apple did something like this, it probably wouldn't it would cause a backlash but not as big because like there's a lot of people are just
00:57:00
not connected to the news whatsoever. But this is like a specialty fitness tracker and most of the people who own
00:57:06
these things are probably like on the subreddit like talking about this thing all the time. Community thing. Yeah.
00:57:12
Yeah. So they have a lot more power. They fixed it. They went back to um if
00:57:17
you have 12 months remaining on your membership uh or if you extend another 12 months,
00:57:22
you'll get the device for free. So, they did go back and they did fix it. Um, yeah. Yeah. Other than that, it's a new
00:57:29
Whoop device. I still have no idea why anyone would want one. I think most smart watches give all of the things
00:57:35
that they don't want smart watches. Okay, I will agree there. If you don't if you want to wear like a regular watch
00:57:40
and still want all the tracking, but then this is great. I just don't think Yeah. It's not a regular watch though.
00:57:47
That's the thing. Yeah. What do you mean? Like it's a band. Yeah. So, you wear like a real watch like your Casio
00:57:53
on your left hand and then the band on your right hand. On your right hand, then you get all of the uh your or your bicep or somewhere else. Can you put it
00:57:59
on your bicep? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you can wear it there's attachments to wear around your chest strap or to wearing a
00:58:04
bicep or whatever. Underwear that you can put on. I don't know about that. They do. Hey, they do. I'm just saying
00:58:10
I'm not saying there is underwear where it has a little thing and it like clips into there. That's funny. Yeah, that I
00:58:16
guess the point of it the point of a whoop that I've seen is is people who want to do the fitness tracking, the sleep tracking, don't want a big bulky
00:58:22
smartwatch, just want the band and that's it. I think my issue is I think a lot of the people early on were like
00:58:28
their metrics blow everyone else out of the water. And I think a lot of people still think that, but I don't know how much I believe it anymore with so many
00:58:34
other smartwatch manufacturers really diving into health metrics. And I can tell you right now, their step tracker
00:58:40
is doodoo water. Is it really? It's beta. Doo water. It might be out of beta by now. I discounted. I did the thousand
00:58:46
steps thing and it was like 10% off. It was really far off. Oh my gosh. You can
00:58:51
watch that short if you want. I took 1,000 steps in every type of wearable. I remember that. And it is kind of insane
00:58:58
how bad a lot of these things are at actually tracking accurately. Yes. Yeah. I think the Whoop was so bad we didn't
00:59:03
even put it in the video. I think if anyone wants like to know, watch our Dr.
00:59:09
mic interview if you want a little more about how much you should take into account what these trackers are. It's mostly for fun and entertainment and
00:59:16
sometimes a good motivation and look at trends versus looking at right it's all trend data like you're not you shouldn't
00:59:22
be looking at the exact just like how calories are definitely not accurate like the FDA allows you to be like 20%
00:59:29
off when you list calorie counts on things. Yeah. As long as you're the same 20% off every time
00:59:35
vaguely. And that way you can track your trend instead of the count of the calories. Yeah. Which is Yeah. That's
00:59:40
what Apple does with temperature. Yeah. Right. So yeah, that's what Pixel does with the thermometer on the phone for
00:59:46
some freaking reason. In case anyone was wondering, uh, spoiler alert, a thousand steps with every wearable. The iPhone
00:59:53
measured 1,033 steps. The Pixel phone measured 1,021 steps. Are you talking about watches? No, I'm doing all the
00:59:59
wearables. Uh, you can wear a pedometer. It counted 1,074 steps. I wore a Pixel
01:00:04
watch, it counted 1,12. I wore an Apple watch, it counted 991. I wore a Galaxy
01:00:10
ring that counted, 106 and the Whoop counted over,200 steps. Oh my gosh. So,
01:00:17
we went probably another W for the Pixel Watch. Yeah, another W. And the the
01:00:23
Samsung ring is very I'm surprised about that. The ring. The more you know. The more you know. All right, we'll take a
01:00:29
quick break, which means trivia. [Music]
01:00:35
ScoobyDoo, where are you? Yo, not to toot my own horn, but you guys notice that it's been like months since the
01:00:42
lights broke. Why would you say that out loud? I'm proud of myself, man. Well,
01:00:47
when they don't work for the later. Can I for the what? Oh my gosh. Anyway, so
01:00:54
earlier in the episode, we talked about a phone case company leaking a new
01:01:00
iPhone, which is not the first time we've seen it, but guys, if you ask me,
01:01:05
we're living in a boring timeline, you know? Okay. Like, yeah, someone got the specs and accidentally remember back in
01:01:11
the old day, remember when Apple employees were leaving iPhones at bars at Redwood City? Yeah. Yeah, brother.
01:01:18
What iPhone did that guy leave in a bar? Oh, I almost just said it out loud. Do you remember when was it the iPhone
01:01:25
10 that slipped out of Tim Cook's pocket on stage? Yeah, that was awesome. Yeah. Did that really? You don't remember
01:01:30
that? No. Yeah. Yeah. It slipped out of his his pocket while he was getting giving an interview on stage.
01:01:37
The code conference or something. Hold on. Yeah. iPhone 10. You remember this? I am very proud to have seen an iPhone 5
01:01:44
in the wild before it was released. Are you allowed to say how? Yes. Because this is so long ago. I in high school
01:01:51
took the subway to school every day and I was getting on the subway in LA. Yeah, they have subways in LA. Get Get it. Get
01:01:57
out. Leave right now. Literally. Um Yeah. I just remember seeing a guy with a tall skinny metal iPhone on the subway
01:02:05
and just thinking that's definitely an iPhone. Like it has the home. Like that is unmistakably an iPhone, but I have
01:02:10
never seen that before in my life. And you're just using it. Yeah, just using it like Yeah. I like David said, you
01:02:17
know, the subway is not a particularly used thing in Los Angeles. Many other
01:02:23
good sandwich options there. This is this is the video real quick. At
01:02:29
the start of this video, it is already halfway out of his pocket. It's like and it was the double camera. Like you could
01:02:34
tell it was a totally different phone at that point. It's being burst. It just slides out and goes on. I totally forgot
01:02:40
about this. And then he like picks it up kind of nonchalantly. Wow. I forgot that that happened. Yeah.
01:02:47
I'm surprised Tim Cook didn't pull out the Men in Black Flash thing and just hit the whole audience with it right
01:02:52
there. The secret apple police like breaks through the window. It falls onto the chair that he's sitting on and it
01:02:58
falls so that it's face up and I think he realizes like well if it's face up, people won't be able to see the camera
01:03:05
bump. And that's the number one thing I'm worried about. So he doesn't put it back in his pocket. He just like leaves it there. Leaves it there. Yeah. Yeah. I
01:03:11
just I'm surprised they would let Tim Cook go on stage with an unreleased product. Especially an iPhone in his
01:03:17
pocket. Especially like just give it to your assistant backstage while you're out there. I just I'm surprised they let
01:03:22
him do that. I wonder if this was like a turning point for Mr. Cook because watching this video, this is pre-sneaker
01:03:28
Tim Cook. He's wearing what looks like Oxford's in this. And I wonder if if
01:03:34

Starting a business is hard. We're not going to sugarcoat it. I mean, when we first started doing this podcast, we faced our fair share of challenges.
01:05:22
We're not audio recording experts, but I remember recording in this smaller room where audio from my mic would bleed into
01:05:28
your mic and audio from your mic bleed into my mic and we didn't want to sit further apart, but we still wanted to have this conversational setup. It's
01:05:34
hard. We just have to figure this stuff out. Um, but if you're running a small business, you'll face some of the same

01:06:44
AIDJ. I've been a longtime user and I'm curious to hear you guys thoughts on
01:06:50
Spotify AID, but it just got a new feature. Oh, not a fan. Not a fan. Also, not a fan. Not a fan. And I want to hear
01:06:56
why, but it just added a feature that lets you talk to it and actually request things. So, as of as of this moment,
01:07:03
before this feature got added, you open the DJ and it just does its thing. It
01:07:08
decides what the vibes are. It starts with a bank a bank of five songs or whatever and it just moves from beat to
01:07:14
beat and narrates in between and it does its thing. And then sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't. You just skip skip if you don't like it. Yeah. But if you
01:07:20
want to specifically request a specific type of song or a certain song like you would with an actual DJ, that's now a
01:07:28
feature. And I think that's fire. I just did about a 15-hour road trip that was a
01:07:33
whole bunch of cities in a row and I listened to a lot of songs thanks to the
01:07:39
Spotify AI DJ. Wow. No regrets. What's up, David? Said your impression. Now we're going to
01:07:45
take it back to 1997. Your parents were arguing the other room. You didn't know
01:07:50
what to do. You started crying. It does. Here's Mariah Carey history. It does know what
01:07:57
you because it has your entire listening history as well. So it'll be like this is what you were listening to in 2010,
01:08:02
which I really like because Subtle Flex. I was the 53rd uh person in the United
01:08:08
States to use Spotify. Oh, so you got a lot of listening history. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. So yeah. When you said you could
01:08:15
request a song, my first thought was that's what the search bar is for. But I wanted to test it this morning and I
01:08:21
listened to the DJ the whole car right in and I think I've changed my mind on it. Oh my goodness. And I think I like X
01:08:27
now. No, no, no. I think I like X the DJ, not Xavier. The DJ. Yes, Xavier. I
01:08:32
want to make that very clear. But I think I'm pro Spotify DJ even though I don't have the request button yet. Yeah,
01:08:38
but it played some bangers. It went from bleachers to the um Demon Slayer theme
01:08:45
song pretty quickly and I was like oh and then it did hire by Creed back to back to back. So I was like you just
01:08:52
know me. Xavier was like how do I get him? How do I get him? I know just the
01:08:57
thing. Yeah. Ellis, why don't you like the Spotify DJ? I am so glad you asked Marquez because it's not about Mr.
01:09:04
Xavier himself. Can I take a guess? Sure. Sorry to interrupt. Yeah. The crossfading between songs is like pretty
01:09:10
good. I hate that. I do hate that. It's too much. It's too early for me. It's too early.
01:09:16
It is not good. And it's there's this sort of like extra rub it in factor of
01:09:22
like I'm one of those people that really appreciates like the skill of DJing. And I don't mean just like scratching and
01:09:28
doing all that. Just like a DJ's ability to pick good music in an age where there's so much music and then
01:09:34
creatively blend all that music together. I I just think is a really great thing. So, you say that, but have
01:09:40
you tried the A? Yeah, all the time. It it it does some interesting things, and it's not like I've it's not like every
01:09:46
single recommendation is bad, but compared to what could be, I think it's
01:09:53
pretty trit. Mostly what the DJ seems to do for me is that it just plays music
01:09:59
that I listened to like a couple of years ago. And like that's nice because
01:10:04
it gets me out of my current loop. But it doesn't really introduce new
01:10:10
music to me. And then when it does introduce new music to me, it's usually music I absolutely hate. Well, I think
01:10:15
it the two things I found it does is it's either basically just like here's your most played playlist from x amount
01:10:21
of years ago, or it was doing uh like here's an artist you like, but a song
01:10:27
from them you don't listen to. And I thought that was interesting. Like that's a good way to bring some music in. But again, that's very user
01:10:33
databased. And I don't I agree with Ellis. I don't necessarily know if they all mesh together. I think this request
01:10:39
thing though I'm hoping can be like play me I just all I've thought of was the
01:10:46
Android thing the other day of like make me a playlist for a 10-minute one mile run which is just two songs. Yes, two
01:10:52
songs. But anyways, but like play me music that's like more lowkey or maybe something that's more upbeat for pumpup
01:10:59
because I'm going to play an ultimate frisbee game. I'm hoping it can bring that better. I just want to say also
01:11:04
like I do think this works on YouTube because for two reasons. One, we're
01:11:10
still in the wild west of YouTube, right? There's no like there's no for sure way that you know how to classify a
01:11:16
YouTube video and assign traits to a YouTube video. And the the things we get out of YouTube videos are very different
01:11:22
than music. With music, we have like 300 years of academic data on like how we
01:11:28
can describe music and classify music and assign traits to music and a strong
01:11:34
curator can use that 300 years of data to make really insightful and moving and
01:11:40
cool recommendations. And so I think the idea of just throwing all of that away for
01:11:46
retention maxing is like what's the point? I will say so something that Spotify has created over time is
01:11:53
basically these smaller artists that will now tour with each other because they know that when you listen to a
01:12:00
certain artist on Spotify, it will recommend you another artist that is like similar in the user data metric of
01:12:07
like oh people who liked this artist also liked this artist. The problem with it is that it's a circle. It's a flat
01:12:13
circle of like six artists. So, in 2017, I was like listening to Cake and
01:12:20
then I got uh then I got recommended Lawrence and then I got recommended like a couple other artists, but they only
01:12:26
recommend each other. It goes in a circle where they only recommend each other. It never peaks out of that like
01:12:32
contained bubble. And this has worked for Spotify because then they introduced these features where it's like artists
01:12:38
near me and it can recommend shows that are playing. I'm sure that they're getting a kickback from that, right? And so it created this kind of micro market
01:12:44
where they can tour artists together that maybe wouldn't have enough of an audience on their own, but because
01:12:51
people that like that artist like other artists, they have more incentive to go to these shows. That's a kind of cool
01:12:57
thing, but it doesn't peak out of the bubble. So now it's like the artists that I'm listening to are the same
01:13:02
artists I was listen that I discovered in 2017 off of that oneoff thing that Spotify helped me with. Mhm. But I want
01:13:09
to keep learning about more music. And then it also it creates and then it also
01:13:15
creates an issue in like the economy of it all, right? Because on YouTube when a user clicks on a video, in theory there
01:13:21
is money waiting in escrow that a corporation has put forward into the
01:13:27
AdSense auction that is going to go to that creator, right? right? The Spotify
01:13:33
platform where there is a bulk of money that is then divided amongst all the streams. There there's only so much pie
01:13:40
each artist only so many shares of the pie each card can get. And when there's no data to explain why something was
01:13:46
recommended to you, there is nothing to stop poli. Yeah. Right. There's literally no way we could stop it. Which
01:13:53
is why espresso was the song of the summer. We're not gonna we're not gonna get into any conspiracy theories. Listen
01:13:58
to the Today Explained episode on it. But also or it's like it's anyway I think it creates all these issues. I
01:14:04
think it's not it becomes not about music and just about retention maxing and uh so yeah
01:14:10
Spotify DJ Xavier I'm sure you're a lovely guy but the robot incarnate of you I really am not a fan of. It's funny
01:14:17
cuz everything you said there about retention maxing Spotify is like perfectly like working. Thanks for the
01:14:23
greatest compliment Ellis. Yeah. I mean, it's also why they're making the AI generated playlists and songs and stuff
01:14:28
so they don't have to pay out anybody. But yeah, I think I think there's like levels to how much you can randomize. Like music discovery is ideal. You're
01:14:35
saying like it's a flat circle, so there's no way out of the circle, but there's also no way into the circle. Like if if you listen to other stuff,
01:14:40
you're not going to get recommended into that circle. But I do think in general
01:14:45
people want to be recommended some extra music outside of their current bubble for sure. And if you just literally I'm
01:14:54
feeling lucky all of music you're gonna get random crap that you don't care about. Yeah. So the whole idea is how
01:14:59
does Spotify find just the right mix of things that are just a little bit outside your bubble that it can bring
01:15:05
you into and start to expand your horizons and pure shuffle wouldn't do it. But I think the AI DJ is a little
01:15:11
bit better than just my own music. Well, and I also imagine that like all of
01:15:16
those metrics that Ellis was talking about earlier, like music can be defined as a gradient, right? Because you could
01:15:21
have all of these characteristics of different bands and different songs and if you've got a band and song that's
01:15:27
very close in most characteristics, but have one or two different, you could slowly transition a user to an artist
01:15:33
they've never heard of before that has very similar style and characteristics. That's what I would love. So, on my
01:15:41
ridiculously long road trip, I had several instances of, "Oh my god, I think I've run out of all of the music."
01:15:47
Uh, because I've just listened to all of music. It's been 12 hours and what am I still doing here? I think I've heard
01:15:52
every song. And so, if I go in and I think I randomly just went in, uh, just give me greatest hits by Michael
01:15:57
Jackson. So, I typed in Michael Jackson and went to his artist page and started with the first one and just let it go.
01:16:02
And once you get past the top 10, then it starts shuffling in others that are other Michael Jackson songs or other
01:16:09
hits from related artists to Michael Jackson and it starts moving. And that's not the AI DJ, but that's the same type of behavior I'm looking for, which is
01:16:16
take my music library, shuffle that a bit, but also once in a while poke out of the bubble a little bit and give me
01:16:22
some new stuff. So, I plan on asking the AIDJ for all kinds of random genres and
01:16:28
and beats for next time I'm driving. I think AIDJ is just it's like their new smart playlist at this point. Calling it
01:16:35
a DJ like makes it a little more personal and feel more like AI. But I really just feel like they fixed their playlist cuz I've never loved their
01:16:41
playlist cuz it's either so short that like you said it starts bringing in other stuff or it's so long that I feel
01:16:47
like I'll listen to the same songs and never get to the half of the other songs that are in my playlist. But yeah. Well,
01:16:52
people have different opinions on this and it can be good or bad, but I created something many moons ago that is much
01:16:59
better than this. You can just go to bangersonsonly.net and you'll get all the best music.
01:17:04
That's all you need to do. Good plug. Still hosting. Um, we're still streaming 24/7. Can I say my calm with Spotify DJ?
01:17:12
He gets stuck in loops where if you only exclusively listen to Spotify DJ, he'll
01:17:17
just keep giving you the same exact playlist over and over. Oh, yeah. True. I had that. and he needs to figure it
01:17:22
out because I asked him for my Brat summer playlist and he played me the Bratz dolls movie soundtrack. So that's
01:17:28
all I want to say. Siri thing ever. Um so work on it a little bit. Was that a request you did or a DJ request? Yep.
01:17:36
Oh, really? I said Brat Summer and he said Bratz Dolls, you want it. So it
01:17:41
that's a tough Did you listen? H Did you listen to the song to the Bratz? Yeah.
01:17:46
Bratz movie. Unfortunately, I did. You did soundtrack? It was kind of good. I'm not going to lie. I mean, that sounds
01:17:53
sounds like a win. It sounds kind of like an old DJ where you have a crappy cell phone connection. You waited on
01:17:59
hold for 10 minutes, ask them for the request, they didn't hear you correctly and played something completely different. Could happen. I think this is
01:18:05
a perfect place for trivia to put the train back on the rails with some trivia.
01:18:11
Adam, Adam, Adam, Alan, Adam, Alen. So
01:18:16
guys, question number one. The Google logo has always had six characters
01:18:22
except for one time between October of 98 and May of 99. Google's logo had
01:18:29
seven characters during that period. What was the seventh
01:18:35
character? Look at those working lights. Look at them. Look at them go. Look at
01:18:41
them. Don't you dare. [Music] Uh, hot goblin strikes again. Hot. Oh,
01:18:47
yeah. He's the hot goblin. Also, this is the marker that doesn't work at all. Oh, do you want it? Works barely. We'll
01:18:55
throw that one. Is it legible? Uh, kind of. All right. Do you want to use this one? Yeah, it's okay. All
01:19:01
right. All right, boys. Flip those boards around and read.
01:19:06
I know. We said something different. Marquez, why don't you go first? We also said different things. Uh, I said an extra O. Oh, thank God. That was going
01:19:13
to be my guess. I said a period. Damn. I said an exclamation point. That is correct. For that brief period, Google
01:19:21
was what they said. Yeah, that No, the brief period, which is what an exclamation point is, doesn't it?
01:19:29
Google having an extra O does sound kind of No, no, because when Well, I feel like at the bottom of the page there's
01:19:35
all of the O. It has a bunch of extra O's and the O's are just links to the other pages. We live in a time right now
01:19:41
where no one's made it that far down the Google search. Yeah, it's been a while at the bottom of the page. Huh? Actually, do they even still do it? They
01:19:48
do. On that point, actually, no. They just infinite scroll now, don't they? All right, guys. Question number two.
01:19:53
Take down their website. Boring iPhones like the 17 Air get
01:19:59
leaked via case websites. But which iPhone was accidentally left in a bar in
01:20:05
Redwood City, California? in which Tim Cook called the reporter and was like,
01:20:11
"We're going to sue the hell out of you." Sorry, not Tim Cook. Uh Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs.
01:20:19
What's the difference? I'm sorry. I didn't If you put Google with 42 O's in the URL. Mhm. It doesn't bring you to
01:20:25
Google. It brings you to a WordPress page that says something new is coming.
01:20:30
Are they saving it for the Pixel 42?
01:20:36
All right, guys. Who would like to go first? Me. Andrew six.
01:20:42
There we go. Was it was the iPhone 4? It was indeed
01:20:47
the iPhone 4 that is for David and one point for Marquez. All right, guys. The
01:20:53
scores for trivia right now are getting pretty crazy. I think I think we might
01:20:58
need to extra this pretty soon because Andrew, what's like the opposite of pole
01:21:05
position? Um, what is DNF? Okay. Oh, no. Starting from the pits. You're gonna F,
01:21:11
so don't worry. Um, it means I'm out of lies to tell. I've told too many. DNF
01:21:16
stands for did not finish. It's a It's a racing thing. Also, I'm starting from the pits for sure. There you go. Yeah,
01:21:21
Andrew started the pits. Also, just a chicane is not a basketball player. It's a It's like a S turn in a racetrack.
01:21:27
Shicane O'Neal. Yeah, exactly. That's where they get the name from.
01:21:34
I can't stop lying. Shak Fu. Um, so Andrew, you are starting in the pits
01:21:40
with 12 points. Yeah. Um, pretty, you know, pretty competitive. 12's a good
01:21:45
number, though, because Marquez is only one point ahead of you with 13. I'm just kidding. He has 23 points. He is 11
01:21:52
points ahead of you. And David is in first place with 28 points. Sheesh.
01:22:01
28 points. So, we're definitely going to need to do some ginormous point offerings in trivia extravaganza, which
01:22:08
I'm still accepting ideas for how we want to do. Give me an opportunity, Ellis. I still haven't won any of them. Really? You never won a season of
01:22:15
trivia. Mark has won twice and Andrew won once. Wow. Yeah. Well, you know, mathematically, we'll make it possible
01:22:21
for anyone. Yeah. Yes. Uh Google lost once cuz he got negative one. We'll just have like we'll just have a 100 point
01:22:27
section about the Xpan and uh it sounds a little rigged if you ask me. But
01:22:34
thanks for watching and listening this week. We appreciate Well, my Google lit up. That was random. Uh we appreciate
01:22:40
you all for subscribing. And also if you have suggestions for what we should do with the trivia extravaganza, feel free
01:22:45
to leave in a comment. Next week is IO week. It is and many more things of
01:22:50
course. Uh, feel free to request your Spotify AI DJ plays more waveform in between your hype tracks. It just starts
01:22:56
a waveform episode. That is the hype track and then it plays the weird song that LS
01:23:02
meant to play every three songs and then loops all three of those things. It'll be great. And then someone gets in your
01:23:07
car and you have to drive them somewhere. See you next week. Peace. Goodbye. Wait for produced by Adamolina,
01:23:15
Ellis Roven, and Mariah Zinc. We're You don't want to be part of it. I didn't do anything. She did everything. You said
01:23:21
some words. And we're partnered with Vox Media Podcast Network. And our intera was created by Mariah Zinc. Just kidding. Vainil. Dang. She's a music.
01:23:28
Have you ever seen Bainil and Mariah Zank in the same room? Oh shoot.
01:23:33
