00:00:00
oh smartphone manufacturers call portrait mode bokeh mode okay so that is basically it yeah BK mode cool Bok mode
00:00:07
got a BK can you just get an episode of Pokemon and call it Pokemon and just
00:00:13
blur the entire thing or anytime a Pokemon gets sent out they're just
00:00:21
[Music] blurry hello people of the internet
00:00:27
welcome back to another episode of the waveform podcast we're your host I'm Marquez I'm Andrew this joke is getting
00:00:33
tired cuz I'm actually David Marquez is still in Australia uh he's winning
00:00:38
constantly they're as far as I know they're undefeated I think they've played Japan's a really tough team I
00:00:45
don't think they've played some of the harder teams I think Australia is going to be really tough they're generally pretty good um so I think they are
00:00:52
probably getting into bracket play pretty soon okay what is bracket play like the way it's going to work is since
00:00:57
it's a tournament they'll do pool play where they basically seed all teams they throw the frisbee in the pool they in the pool first person to get it wins
00:01:04
it's like water polo they'll take like 16 teams and split it up into groups of four and those are pools those pools
00:01:10
play against each other and then create this seating for the elimination bracket it so they're probably they're
00:01:15
definitely in elimination bracket right now okay I felt really stupid because Marquez has consistently been posting
00:01:22
the match scores on his Instagram stories and every single time they keep getting 15 points so I messaged him and
00:01:29
I was like why do you guys keep getting 15 points and he was like David it's first to 15 points wins and I was like
00:01:35
oh as a former ultimate player apparently that's how it works you are not stupid because ultimate is the most
00:01:40
confusing sport possible because we cannot keep what we want to do and it's not always just to 15 there's a weird
00:01:47
time limit where if you don't make it then it'll be like plus two or plus one to that so anyways you're not dumb he
00:01:53
tried to give me an analogy he was like just like in pingpong how you play to 21 you play to 15 in
00:02:00
fair I guess that's kind of similar how many points is a touchdown worth an ultimate one one every point is worth one in and
00:02:08
it is called a touchdown a point a score yeah a score okay so it's not called a touchdown no it's it's called probably
00:02:15
anything but a touchdown yeah you should go look but it is an end zone correct there is an end zone yeah all right all
00:02:22
I think okay how where when do I get a home run all right that's the end of trivia
00:02:29
for today's episode we have early pixel fold thoughts Blue Sky users surging yeah
00:02:35
we'll find out why AI starting to already mess up Google Search and then I kind of want to talk about this new game
00:02:40
called deadlock that I'm obsessed with I'm super down to talk to you about it you'll be interested in yeah um but first last week we didn't have time for
00:02:48
this but there was this Verge article about swappable prime lenses right and I didn't know how to think about it and I
00:02:55
assumed you'd have some thoughts I don't know if they're good or bad thoughts but I'd like to hear your thoughts please teach us okay so the way a lens works is
00:03:04
you have the internal part of the lens which has all of these things called lens elements and effectively there's
00:03:11
multiple elements of the lens that Focus the light because depending on the aperture the the focal length of the
00:03:17
lens and the type of lens that you make you have to focus the light to make an image circle on the sensor right so Sam
00:03:25
yangang has apparently come out with this singular lens that you keep mounted to your camera and you just swap out the
00:03:33
lens elements instead of swapping out the entire lens the point of this they
00:03:39
say is to like save weight and now you can only you only have to bring like basically the center part of your lens
00:03:44
with you instead the whole lens which makes a lot of sense um I feel like based off what you just said my initial
00:03:51
thought was sounds cool wa it feels like you're just swapping lenses anyways but then
00:03:57
like okay the because the exterior part of it is the bulkier aspect if you can
00:04:02
just carry the small parts that does sound nice lenses a lot of times sorry I
00:04:07
interrupt it but like lenses when you're car like walking or like bringing a bag
00:04:12
those are the things that add up in weight when you want to bring multiple especially when you're doing prime lenses you want a bunch of them yeah I
00:04:18
brought a bunch of lenses with me to Glacier National Park this weekend and my back was in pain um so it's it's an interesting idea
00:04:25
I think that the awkward thing about it is it significantly limits the type of
00:04:30
lens design that you can have okay because if you want like there's this legendary line of Nikon lenses called
00:04:36
the knocked lenses that are like 0.95 um aperture okay and they're huge they're
00:04:43
like massive massive Canon also makes a 28 to 70 F2 or 24 to 70 F2 one of the
00:04:49
two I think it's 28 to 70 F2 it's also massive and the reason that is is because you need a lot of glass to be
00:04:56
able to focus that much light and produce like that many stops of light on a lens so having the body of the lens
00:05:06
fixed really does like pretty significantly limit what you can do with it um however they might be able to make
00:05:13
the interior parts longer or shorter so I don't know it's interesting I I think that you're kind of locking yourself
00:05:20
into that ecosystem for sure but at the same time at least initially they're only offering three and they're not
00:05:26
actually that different there's a 21 mm a 28 mm and a 32 mm which again um you
00:05:34
know they're not super different in focal length yeah it's like not enough to be like super excited about getting
00:05:41
this and locking into that when if you want something Tighter and you want to go up to like a 50 which feels like a
00:05:46
significant jump or like you know a normal jump from 28 to 50 this doesn't even have it so you're just bringing
00:05:52
that lens in that's where you're starting to see the limitations of these is that the longer focal lengths you get generally you have to make the lens
00:05:58
longer because you have to put more elements because there has to be a longer between the focal center of the the optical
00:06:06
center of the lens and the focal plane which is the sensor so anyway My overall
00:06:12
take on this is they're pretty affordable um apparently it's going to be around $229 for the main lens mount with the
00:06:20
32mm insert and I'm not sure what they're going to be shipping the other adapters fors for yeah yeah I also don't
00:06:27
know about the quality um there are two .8 3.5 and 3.5 respectively which is
00:06:32
like not the fastest but for a walk around lens I think the 21 mm 2.8 could
00:06:37
be cool I like 28 mm but anyway it's an interesting idea I'm glad that people
00:06:43
are innovating in the in the lens space in general so and it's kind of cool that you don't have to carry around these
00:06:49
giant lenses yeah for sure yeah cool I just wanted your take on it now can you explain why Blue Sky gains 2 million
00:06:56
users over the weekend is that like double their users yeah I'm not sure but it is a lot it's a significant yeah they
00:07:03
gained so for those that don't know Blue Sky uh is a alternative to Twitter looks
00:07:09
exactly like Twitter and if you want to learn more about blue sky we just this is actually very in incredibly good
00:07:16
timing because we just published a special episode about blue sky and threads uh which you should go watch
00:07:22
it's called protocol Wars uh at Pro Blue Sky versus threads something like that
00:07:28
and blue sky is this alternative to Twitter that was sort of incubated inside of Twitter but over the weekend they gained a ton of users because
00:07:35
Brazil has officially banned X SL Twitter yeah I haven't gotten to read into this yet on why this is happening
00:07:42
yeah this happened pretty much exactly why you probably think it happened in that uh Elon got mad at some judge and
00:07:49
then you know didn't comply with what they wanted him to do and then he they banned it says they had uh fees or fines
00:07:57
that they had to pay yeah what happened is like way back in April this judge in Brazil told X that it needed to suspend
00:08:04
suspend certain accounts for spreading disinformation um Elon said no we're not going to do that and then he also
00:08:11
proceeded to mock the judge a lot which um works out really well for you generally yep uh and then it works out
00:08:19
really well for you generally yeah and then X closed its Brazilian office uh in
00:08:24
August because X said that its legal representative was threatened with arrest if she did not apply with uh the
00:08:31
rules that were set by this judge and then the judge basically said Google and
00:08:37
apple have 5 days to take X off the app store and block use on their platforms this ban is now effective
00:08:42
until X names a new legal representative in Brazil which they are probably not going to do okay uh and they also now
00:08:50
have to pay a bunch of fines that it that they owe to Brazil because of all of these infringements that they have
00:08:56
made then it got worse like it always does uh because starlink said that they're not going to ban X on users that
00:09:04
are using starlink in Brazil which is a surprising amount of people I saw somewhere was like over 100,000 or
00:09:10
200,000 surprised dude you know what's crazy when I was in Glacier this weekend they have no service at all no I
00:09:16
remember that and I was at a lot I went to a few of the different um ranger stations because I locked my keys in my
00:09:23
car and had a hitchhike about 5 miles you hold on I don't want to derail the
00:09:28
pot that much but when you came in this morning I immediately was like glacier's beautiful isn't it you were telling me
00:09:33
about these awesome hikes you did and everything you skipped that part of the story completely yeah I don't know how
00:09:40
modern cars allow this to happen anymore but like I I closed my door in the the micro second my door closed it's the
00:09:47
worst feeling I had my my my stomach just exploded I saw my keys sitting on my seat and all the doors had just Auto
00:09:53
locked uh anyway the point is I I hitchhiked to a ranger station at the top of this mountain and the ranger
00:10:00
station had a had starlink okay yeah I can't like places like that are where it
00:10:06
makes the most sense right right and I'm Brazil is gigantic right um and I'm sure there's lots of rural places where it
00:10:12
makes a ton of sense yeah and for those who don't know Brazil is actually has traditionally been very very very active
00:10:19
on Twitter they make up like a lot of the fan and Stan accounts that like
00:10:25
really have uh social culture moving I know I mean this is a niche aspect of it
00:10:32
but the Brazilian valerant fans are wild I mean like they support their their
00:10:39
teams a lot and there's a lot of people on Twitter supporting those teams and when I used to watch valer a lot Brazil
00:10:46
big yeah they have 215 million people and reportedly 10% of the entire country
00:10:51
used Twitter okay wow which is crazy yeah um so Starling said they weren't
00:10:58
going to comply and then Brazil froze starlinks bank accounts okay so then
00:11:04
they did comply um so anyway regardless it is pretty much indefinitely banned in
00:11:10
Brazil and so everyone decided to move over to Blue Sky and I was looking into why they chose Blue Sky instead of
00:11:16
threads and apparently mostly just people just didn't want to join another meta platform which totally makes sense
00:11:22
and also Blue Sky if you haven't used it basically it's formatted exactly like Twitter used to look before it got
00:11:29
switch over to X like it's it's pretty much exactly the same so blue sky over
00:11:34
the weekend gained 2 million users which is uh about 10% of Brazil's population
00:11:42
because 10% would be 2.5 million yeah which is crazy yeah yeah which is crazy
00:11:47
it said the significant growth brings platform's total user count to 8.4 million so so that's 20% 20 plus% right
00:11:54
over a weekend which is nuts that's crazy yeah and blue sky is cool like there's a lot
00:11:59
of really interesting features of Blue Sky there's custom feeds there's like these starter packs that you can um
00:12:06
basically like if your friends have a certain amount of people wait what is a starter pack on a social media a starter
00:12:13
pack on Blue Sky is basically like if you are a person who's into these categories or the people that I'm
00:12:20
following the accounts that I'm following the feeds that I'm using I can just copy that over to your account so
00:12:26
like if I wanted to like look at pictures of moss yeah yeah there's there's different there's
00:12:31
custom feeds on Blue Sky so you can like you can go to the you know foru feed or whatever but there's also a folling feed
00:12:37
there's also custom feeds where people can curate their own sort of lists and then you can have these lists as these
00:12:44
custom feeds there's custom moderation um so yeah I think that a lot of people just like wanted to move over there and
00:12:50
it's really funny cuz I was using Blue Sky a lot over the weekend and like half the posts were in
00:12:55
Portuguese so to all you portug uh brailon Blue Sky users out there hello
00:13:02
welcome yeah you own Blue Sky now I think pretty much it was definitely a huge jump for the platform um and it's
00:13:09
good to have more users because like we talked about on the special episode the social graph problem is kind of the
00:13:15
biggest problem and so just getting more people on there especially people that contribute so much to culture yeah I
00:13:20
think is very important so it might make people actually want to go over and download it funny enough I got a lot of
00:13:26
people posting at me skying well skying at me I guess forgot yeah
00:13:33
don't I can't say that on the podcast but uh saying that they downloaded Blue Sky because of the episode which is very
00:13:40
funny because most of it was about activity yeah like and most of us were saying like wow it feels like activity
00:13:45
Pub and threads is really doing way better than guy yeah but hey a lot of people seem to be interested in it so
00:13:52
that's fun uh so if you want to check out Blue Sky go hang out with all the Brazilians sweet all right I have one
00:13:58
more quick thing before we do trivia mhm and it's just because I want to talk about myspace okay um but Instagram is
00:14:05
now allowing you to add a song to your Instagram profile just like Myspace used
00:14:11
to be yeah amazing but this time it doesn't it doesn't autoplay on it doesn't autoplay which is good yeah I do
00:14:18
wish they brought in top eight so we could all argue with our friends all the time is that like your top eight friends
00:14:23
yeah so Myspace us to have a thing where on your page it had your profile picture it had like a bio it had the song that would play and then would have you
00:14:30
curated the eight friends that would show on the top and the amount of fights
00:14:35
and arguments that that started the drama so juicy Peak I would just not put
00:14:40
anyone just like I couldn't just make eight of your own accounts and make all of them so it didn't populate that um
00:14:47
but yeah I mostly wanted to play this cuz I want everyone to say what song they would add to their Instagram
00:14:53
profile what song I would add because there's already a song that I add okay what song did you add what song did you
00:14:58
add uh Cruisin by Childish Gambino off the new album cuz it's awesome and I can't get it out of my head there's new
00:15:04
album is it good yeah it's really good I thought he was getting rid of the childish SC be name this was his last
00:15:09
album okay Ellis what about you uh I was just thinking about it um I think I'd
00:15:15
have to go with this
00:15:20
song but that's just me I I like it man I wish it would autoplay can we put that
00:15:27
on the podcast yeah we could also put this on the [Music]
00:15:35
podcast I'd like to see him stop me I would love looking at Ellis's pictures
00:15:40
to that music oh I was like did you think I was talking about I was like you can't see that you know I hate autoplay
00:15:47
videos but honestly I would be kind of down for this autoplay music I would be down yeah and how does it so how does it
00:15:52
work is it a Spotify link I'll show you through mine no so I believe I was
00:15:58
trying to figure this out meta has their own Library through some different uh
00:16:03
probably for like reals and stuff yeah and so you just have to find something in there it's already it's a library you
00:16:10
just search through when you go and add a song it's in like edit profile song Choice interesting um and then you pick
00:16:16
through that and then it just comes up as which I don't think people are going to really see but there's just this little play icon underneath it so this
00:16:24
is mine [Music]
00:16:33
wait see hand only doctor I trust is the
00:16:39
pepper W I love someone please explain that for the audience there's a do
00:16:44
pepper AI song that's actually really really good the chorus is song of the summer easy oh dude I you know I that
00:16:51
article came out a few week or two ago that AI had zero economic impact since
00:16:56
thing that song is proof that is Fant the the cultural impact let alone the
00:17:02
economic impact of the Dr Pepper song is yeah so seeing the way that it works on Android Android's phone Andrew's phone I
00:17:08
like that you can just play it directly from the profile and it doesn't have to like open up a separate link or something that is very cool is super
00:17:16
small to the point where hitting the play button is actually kind of hard oh really like I've missed the play button mul they probably did that on purpose
00:17:23
yeah yeah you have to really want to listen to the song I feel like there could be a middle ground I also think
00:17:28
should be able to name it something like mine says asking AI to make a hit
00:17:35
country song about Dr Pepper like that's too long I just want it to be like Andrew's favorite song or like let me
00:17:40
name it something or let me name it song of the summer and people were like I wonder what that is it would be nice if it was mysterious yeah yeah people would
00:17:47
want to click it then my theory is that they're trying to make Instagram into more of a dating app that's a good theory to be fair to
00:17:56
they did launch this in collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter and a new song so like I think that was kind of the the
00:18:03
way they marketed this as adding it onto there um but yeah I think it's a 30
00:18:08
second portion it Clips out of but you still need to name not the whole song not the whole mine is semi charm life by Third ey blind which what no way never
00:18:16
guess wait wait wait but does it start straight at do or are you into the chorus already I
00:18:22
think it's it's only 30 got start at the beginning or yeah because that's important it's
00:18:29
just that replaying for 30 seconds it's just two unfortunately on most streamers
00:18:35
when you play that song the uh radio station that plays afterwards is bangers
00:18:43
only.net so it's a bummer that there isn't an auto radio that plays immediately after you play it but I do
00:18:49
need people to know more about this song which I actually watched a documentary about the song last night do you need more people to know about that song I
00:18:54
feel like that is if you lived at any millisecond the 9s you've heard that
00:19:00
song I just want to take take a second to talk about a little bit of third eyye blind trivia okay okay did you know okay
00:19:07
so there's a there is this Ranch that Ellis will know a lot about called Skywalker Ranch in California basically
00:19:14
George Lucas created this Ranch for like just doing insane like video effects and
00:19:20
sound design MH and I've been invited to a few screenings at Skywalker Ranch cuz
00:19:26
they screen some movies there specifically the new Star Wars movies when they came out they invited me to go see them there apparently Third Eye
00:19:33
Blind had like no money right cuz they were just a local band in San Francisco they knew about Skywalker Ranch they
00:19:40
knew it was insanely expensive and they didn't think that that many people rented it out so one day they just
00:19:46
showed up and set up and started recording their album and they recorded like most of the album over 10 days at
00:19:54
Skywalker Ranch without asking anyone permission and then left
00:20:00
and like that's how they recorded their debut a lot of their debut albums is so
00:20:05
like the studios there are called uh Skywalker sound and it's a huge deal in
00:20:11
the audio world and just like the the trivia fact that everyone loves to site is that every year since
00:20:18
1977 a sound guy or remixer or like some audio person has either been nominated
00:20:25
or won an Academy Award every year since 1977 it's like it's like ludicrous
00:20:32
the work they do there we should record the podcast there yeah that would be record waveform there we should just
00:20:38
show up and record a waveform there and then leave I'm sure they tighten down security since well yeah apparently uh
00:20:45
after the album came out and got really big they went back and like told the person at the front desk that they did
00:20:50
it and the person was like yeah I mean I don't know as long as you record your
00:20:56
next album here then All Is Forgiven I guess that's awesome which is cool so anyway
00:21:02
so yeah that's the new Instagram feature cool tell us what your song of the summer or song of your Instagram is
00:21:08
going to be in the comments I just want them to let us edit the HTML of the Instagram page just like we used to do
00:21:13
with Myspace dude when I was when I was sixth grade I I coded my own website in
00:21:20
sixth grade cuz it was part of like this class I was taking and it was basically just taking random cat images from the
00:21:27
internet and like making them wallpaper and then playing Weird Al Yankovic in the background like over and over again
00:21:33
the same song does this still exist the song hardware store by Weird Al I feel like that's like a project you can
00:21:38
currently have I highly doubt it exists was it ever like hosted on an actual DNS
00:21:44
server yeah so do you think it was archived possibly I don't remember the
00:21:50
name of the URL though unfortunately yeah D it was pretty cool next way form long form yeah finding my old website
00:21:58
from grade anyway all right well I think we
00:22:03
should take it to some non thirde Eye Blind trivia oh and the lights work
00:22:09
today Marquez will never believe it oh my God all right well this week we have
00:22:16
an audio question not a question about audio but a question where I'm going to play you audio okay and specifically
00:22:23
earlier this week RS Technica reported a story about this sound coming from a
00:22:29
place it was not supposed to come
00:22:39
from where did that sound come from we allow to know what that sound is uh they
00:22:45
don't know what it is they don't know what it is they they know probably why
00:22:50
it happened but no one I have not seen it reported like conclusively that's what this sound is I saw a different
00:22:56
article recently about sound coming from that wasn't supposed to be it but I don't want sound no Oh I thought you were going to
00:23:03
play another one I don't want to say what it was in case that's also what this is oh H but I'll tell the story
00:23:09
later tricky well we'll have to find out at the end when we give the answers and
00:23:15
the scores and the points but until then bye no we'll be right back oh right
00:23:24
[Music]
00:23:35
support for waveform comes from Life 360 it's back to school season which means it's time for new routines new
00:23:40

00:25:46
back as you may have seen on Monday the Pix pixel fold 9 Pro fold embargo lifted
00:25:53
so now we can finally talk about it we can Marquez unfortunately left like one
00:25:58
day too early to actually get his fold yeah it's sitting on his desk right now yeah so the review of that might not
00:26:04
come out till like after the iPhone at least the Hands-On of the iPhone we'll figure it out but lucky for you guys
00:26:11
I've been using this thing basically since a week ago so I have some thoughts I do it is a bummer that they sent these
00:26:18
out really late um I was talking to Michael fiser Mr mobile over the weekend and he got his even later I think he got
00:26:25
his like Thursday or Friday and the Embargo was Monday yeah to be fair this morning we were Tuesday sorry yesterday
00:26:32
oh people are getting it yesterday or no thear was Tuesday because Monday was a holiday cuz this morning Adam and I
00:26:38
before you got in were like can we talk about this on the Pod let's see if there's any where's the Embargo and
00:26:43
looked and there was like a Tom's guide video and like one other channel and like maybe a Verge review there were
00:26:49
there's not a lot of content there's not a lot of content about it because and Google always does this Google is the worst with this they always they
00:26:55
generally make embargos on Mondays and give you the product on Friday so you basically have to like Rush a review
00:27:01
over a weekend which sucks this time they gave us the the devices on Wednesday or Thursday and made the
00:27:08
Embargo on Tuesday the day after a holiday weekend yeah which is like guys please people have lives um yeah so I've
00:27:16
had it for a while it is in my opinion one of the best foldable phones at right now it's kind of like a OnePlus open but
00:27:24
Google and pixel which is really awesome the interior screen has been significantly
00:27:29
improved uh it's very good it's very very thin the battery life has been really good it looks very thin yeah it's
00:27:36
really thin the battery life is really good the one thing I've been not that happy about is the cameras uh they
00:27:42
definitely have a way too much contrast even like quite a bit worse
00:27:48
than the pixel 9 Pro and the pixel 9 can I see something yeah you have a 2hour
00:27:53
timer running right now yes okay yeah my car is charging oh charging okay sorry I like is that just running randomly okay
00:28:00
no um but I used it throughout the entire time at Glacier it was very useful to have like split apps open the
00:28:07
kind of cool thing about the aspect ratio is it's effectively the exact same aspect ratio as two phones next to each
00:28:12
other so when you use it in multia mode it can be really useful if you find that
00:28:18
useful if you're like I want to watch a YouTube video and use telegram at the same time then you know then that's
00:28:25
useful I still would really like to see a foldable that folds out into a like
00:28:31
16x9 as or 21 by9 aspect ratio which I guess the flip does but
00:28:38
then you have to like use the square aspir ratio on the front instead very hard it's kind of hard to find really
00:28:45
super useful use cases of the Interior screen because watching videos chops off
00:28:51
like you know screen just not being used yeah so but for this format a foldable I
00:28:58
think it's my favorite one that I've used so far mostly because it has all the pixel software can I say something
00:29:05
right off the bat I haven't even held this yet yeah but you just mentioned how it's exactly the size of two phones yeah
00:29:11
and we mentioned this a different one when we were just talking about how they looked MH this whole like the uh hinge
00:29:18
having this extra it's not bezel but it almost looks like a phone inside of a case this reminds me so much of the LG
00:29:25
velvet case that just added another or the V60 yeah yeah I I don't like that I
00:29:32
think that looks terrible it looks weird it looks like two phones are slotted into a hinge it does look like that and
00:29:38
I think that is kind of strange it is strange but I've been dealing with it but yeah I mean it is really thin
00:29:43
overall feels it's quite good I think I really wish that they would add some of the features that the OnePlus open has
00:29:49
like being able to sort of put apps outside of the main screen and then slide them in whenever you want to and
00:29:55
stuff like that um but having all the pixel feat Fe like now playing and like
00:30:00
call recording and all that kind of stuffes a a dock a dock yeah it does have the dock cuz built into Android now
00:30:07
I like how the app screen the app drawer is split screen as well well doesn't take up the whole spot I think that's
00:30:13
kind of awesome because that's a lot of icons to go across if you're yeah the interior screen is really good it has a
00:30:19
fingerprint reader on the power button which is nice um I like using that uh
00:30:24
over it also has Face Unlock though so that that can work as well this power button has a finger reader on it yeah it's built in yeah I mean it's not going
00:30:30
to work for your yeah I know but usually they're not uh extruded like that if it has a fingerprint reader on it which is
00:30:37
kind of wild yeah it's pretty good okay no this feels fantastic this feels like
00:30:42
a phone in a case in terms of thickness like I think that is one of the most usable folds that I've held I think for
00:30:50
a gen two it's surprisingly good for sure the Gen one the camera bump is terrible still the camera bump is really
00:30:55
weird it's definitely really weird the Gen one I really liked because of the size because it was shorter and I
00:31:01
thought that was nice and I personally would have preferred if they just expanded on that and made the interior screen better but overall I think for
00:31:09
this size of foldable it's like one of the best foldables you can get especially in the US so yeah it's
00:31:15
expensive again still but I think Adam probably wants to gush over it a little bit been waiting do you have questions
00:31:20
this whole time I have so well no you answered my one main question okay but for the sake of the Pod I'll reiterate
00:31:26
them okay so you you had it now for a week going on a trip to Glacier arguably
00:31:31
one of the most beautiful places in the world so correct how do you feel about the picture quality because I really
00:31:39
look for good quality pictures in my next phone yeah the camera is not super good yeah unfortunately have you tried
00:31:46
taking pictures with like raw as well uh yes and I have not tried to edit the ra
00:31:51
into like light the video is not amazing um and the the photos that just come out
00:31:57
the jpeg just come out are not definitely not as good as the pixel9 pro yeah I was seeing like people post pictures over the weekend and it's
00:32:04
they're very contrasty there yeah it looks like it takes the pixel processing and it like Jacks it up to the next
00:32:10
level it's not it's not great do you know if there's a way to like tone that down a bit I mean you can shoot in raw
00:32:16
that's it right that's basically it or you can like tap on a shadow area to try
00:32:21
to get a little more dynamic range to make it less contrasty it's still going to be a little sharp and contrast around
00:32:27
the edges but shout out to zeram there's this uh app called zeram on iOS that
00:32:33
basically does like very minimal SL no processing which really gets rid of like
00:32:38
the phone look by the makers of halide cam right no doing their own is also
00:32:44
doing a version they called process zero which I just want to point out I just want to point out I made this video
00:32:50
essay three years ago that's exactly this and I told everyone to do this and
00:32:55
now it's happening thank God the company aren't doing it though it's all third parties but those are really cool apps
00:33:01
because they basically make your smartphone camera look like a digam like the quality is way better there's way
00:33:07
less sharpening and all that stuff there can be more noise if it's super low light because it's not doing it's not really doing computational photography
00:33:14
but uh I definitely recommend checking out zero Cam and or process zero on HED are those both iOS though they're both
00:33:20
iOS only but uh zero cam is is officially porting to Android right now
00:33:26
Okay cool so it will be available on Android pretty soon which is really cool nice uh next question how's the
00:33:31
durability of it like so far pretty good I was not super careful with this and I
00:33:38
had my iPhone in my pocket at the same time so both the phones were sort of rubbing together all the time and I
00:33:44
definitely have some like very minor scuffs on the screen and there's one
00:33:49
scratch that is actually in the screen but besides that considering I was like bringing it all around Glacier and like
00:33:55
hiking you know 20 M A Day With It yeah it's held up pretty well so far again it's only been a week but uh it's it's
00:34:03
pretty good but like it's a week of like one of the most intense activities that I'll probably do in my life so like that
00:34:09
is the the bar uh next question you also you just finished using the pixel 9 Pro
00:34:16
9 pro thank you with the under display fingerprint reader now you're using the power button fingerprint reader is it
00:34:21
just as quick is it snappy do you feel a little different uh it's pretty much just as quick there's also Face Unlock
00:34:28
yeah and you can use them in conjunction with each other so both together it's like you really don't notice nice yeah
00:34:35
as someone who used the fingerprint reader on the Zen phone which is on the side actually grew really frustrated
00:34:41
with a while cuz when it's sitting on your desk if you just want to like unlock it really quick oh yeah it is a
00:34:47
pain in the ass to yeah when like it's front screen it's really easy but that's like super minimal I don't like Face
00:34:54
Unlock cuz I like looking at my lock screen sometimes so I love just pressing my power button and seeing like a couple
00:35:01
things I have on my lock screen so there's a setting on the pixel where I think I tried this and it was still
00:35:06
annoying okay yeah there's a setting on the pixel where it will when it when you look at it it will unlock your phone but
00:35:12
it won't automatically go to your home screen you'll still see your notifications it is the most like
00:35:17
minuscule thing I hate about it cuz sometimes I'm like I want to look at that and the other times when I want
00:35:22
Face Unlock to work I want it to be right into the screen so if that makes sense like with a fingerprint unlock I
00:35:29
can do that I can just open it or I can just be straight into the well it's nice that you can use both right yeah yeah so
00:35:36
being able to like unlock it and see your notifications and then just you know tap is nice okay yeah that works
00:35:42
overall though yeah I think it's like one of the best F it's probably the best foldable available in the US um I like
00:35:48
the aspect ratio more than the zold five or six or whatever we're on now we're to six now yeah um yeah final question
00:35:56
which when you plug it into a display does it have anything similar to deck answer yes it does thanks to michall ran
00:36:06
who's been reporting on this but if you go into developer settings turn it on I played with it this morning as soon as David walked in yeah it has a very rough
00:36:13
uh Dex like experience that you can force enable and I did have to force
00:36:19
quit and shut the whole thing down to close the app but it does work and we should note that that was this is on
00:36:24
Android 14 and Android 15 is officially available right now but it not yet for the pixel fold for some reason probably
00:36:31
because people don't have it yet it's available for the 9 series but not the fold so when 15 comes out I think there
00:36:39
there is an improved Dex experience but I'm not tot 15 is supposed to have Dex right think so one of the big features
00:36:45
of it I hope so I mean it's not called Dex called whatever the hell Google's calling we can try it on a on a 15 on a
00:36:52
pixel yeah yeah yeah all right thank you for answering my questions so Adam is definitely going to buy this thing 100%
00:36:58
yeah I think a lot of people were pretty happy with it so it has I will say the wireless charging cable is in a weird
00:37:05
spot um you can't it's not like direct Center I've had to like move it down so
00:37:11
I think the cable is a little bit lower and my car has been having trouble charging the phone this is why so I
00:37:17
can't wait for ch2 and why mag safe I still think is one of the best features that's been made for a smartphone in
00:37:24
years it is a bummer that this does not have G2 and there's only like one or two phones out right now that have it it's
00:37:30
like a Motorola phone that no one's going to buy and some other phone that no I do like that cases are starting to throw magnets in it CU like this debrand
00:37:37
case I have has the magnet inside of it and then I just always know Channel sponsor even though they're not telling
00:37:42
me to but like it's one of the reasons why I picked this phone and stopped using my zen phone because I couldn't I
00:37:48
hated the like stier on the back safe case for it no mag safe case for that there was a I bought like an adhesive
00:37:55
magnet to put it on but then I just didn't have any anyways mag safe is incredible I can't wait for ch2 on
00:38:00
literally every single phone they sent me a case with this but it's like one of those silicone onesing weird and folding
00:38:07
cases are weird they're two piece and they usually have adhesives on them and stuff and it's just very strange I'm
00:38:12
curious to see what Marquez thinks after using it for a week cuz he was saying this might convince him to like switch to a full yeah I mean there are things
00:38:20
about it that I'm like I kind of would prefer the regular pixel 94 like it does feel kind of weird to have like a two
00:38:26
piece phone in your it all the time but it's thin enough that it's not like the bulkiness is not the problem so yeah
00:38:33
it's funny cuz like if you're used to a case it's probably the size of a phone in a case mhm but if you're used to a
00:38:38
case you're probably going to want to put a case on it and now it's going to be a phone and a case with a case and I will say it was really nice on the plane
00:38:43
on the way back because I was either able to put it in like tent mode to watch a YouTube video like do this or
00:38:50
you could do this yeah which is really awesome so you can't even see that on camera but basically different forms of
00:38:57
tent mode which is nice oh and then also you can have like a giant viewfinder when you're taking you can basically be
00:39:02
that iPad guy you know but with your foldable phone hell yeah the giant viewfinder so I just also want to yell
00:39:09
really quickly at Google for making the the porcelain one the white one which is the objectively better color go only
00:39:16
available from Google yeah so annoying sounds like they marketed that perfectly
00:39:21
yeah especially yeah especially since they've been opening all these Google stores but yeah that's basically the
00:39:26
pixel fall so yeah if anyone has any more questions hit them in the comments after you like And subscribe yeah you
00:39:32
can also uh post at me on Blue Sky threads or X and I'll try to answer your
00:39:38
questions if yeah but if people have questions that'll be great because we're main channel is going to do this review so much later we have some extra ammo
00:39:46
for what people might want to know outside of the general reviews if they even come like I said again Wednesday
00:39:51
morning I've seen like three video reviews on this they will com just people got them so late yeah sounds like
00:39:57
Google did a really bad job at rolling out this review program for the fold shocker big shocker so um next story
00:40:06
this is a small story but I found kind of funny it's pretty Niche but I think as an example of kind of like the dead
00:40:12
internet that we've been talking about and how yeah how AI is kind of ruining everything and you know essentially AI
00:40:19
is going to create so much that AI is going to be pulling from put like AI already and we're going to start losing
00:40:24
out on actual writers so if if you if anyone's familiar with James Hoffman he is like the number one coffee YouTuber
00:40:32
um highly highly suggest his channel he's great besides coffeezilla besides both similar content both similar
00:40:39
looking just kidding um but on James Hoffman's subreddit somebody just
00:40:45
happened to search James Hoffman in Google and what came up was this like
00:40:50
kind of strange photo as like do you know like the Google overviews will say like their age it'll say like maybe
00:40:57
where went to school a brief description of them and some links and then usually a profile picture of who that person or
00:41:03
thing is the profile picture looked like James but not really like James and
00:41:08
people were wondering what it was and through a little bit of digging they found they went back to this
00:41:14
website from Anthony baser who has a bunch of essentially an entire website
00:41:21
that feels like almost everything is AI written in so it comes from this article about James Hoffman and being a coffee
00:41:28
Channel and when I say article I mean it just looks like he kept putting into an AI generator like write why you should
00:41:35
watch James Hoffman's Channel and then weirdly enough all of the photos in it are like an AI generated version of
00:41:42
James Hoffman and they all look different they all look kind of the same it's all like similar hair color glasses
00:41:49
um like similar style but just off yeah and I guess I don't really get why they're generating all of it but then
00:41:55
there's other articles about like Joe Rogan and about like this political podcast every single piece of the
00:42:02
website that I've seen so far is AI generated It also says my personal review which is funny because a lot of
00:42:08
this writing looks a generated too I think all of the writing and at least those ones about like podcasting shows
00:42:13
that they like feels AI but I just thought overall this was like a perfect
00:42:20
example now seeing that Google pulled information from this as the inter the
00:42:26
like AI overview or you know the overview in general in Google search pulling the profile picture of someone
00:42:31
who is there's no shortage of content and photos of James Hoffman he literally
00:42:37
has a super popular YouTube channel yep I don't know I thought this was kind
00:42:42
of funny and my first like personal anecdotal evidence of like dead internet
00:42:47
Theory yeah yeah totally this is like a direct like representation of what dead
00:42:52
internet theory is which for people that don't know it's basically this theory that most of the content that we're
00:42:58
consuming on the internet now is created by robots yeah yeah and this has been a theory for a while and and like even
00:43:04
before a lot all of this AI stuff started to happen because way back in the day we were just having bot problems
00:43:11
constantly exactly now the Bots are getting much worse but now we're in this new paradigm where we also have a
00:43:17
generated images and text yes yes and so Google specifically because and because
00:43:23
they're leaning into AI as well with these Ai overviews and all this kind kind of stuff now they're starting to pull their automated images are being
00:43:30
pulled from these different sites which now are AI generated images yeah so AI
00:43:37
is creating something for AI to take over and at what point it's just an endless cycle of yeah garbage yeah and
00:43:43
it's just going to be hard to find actual information or actual new information yeah or new information
00:43:49
right and then you know there's the thing with Reddit where Reddit can only be indexed by Google now so if you search something something Reddit on any
00:43:56
other search engine it's only going to give you posts older than like um August 2024 or
00:44:02
something not great um everything no surprise for Reddit they just down
00:44:08
downhill through and through that dumbass website Steve Huffman loser dang okay
00:44:18
one more story that actually seems like it sort of broke while we were recording this okay new
00:44:25
Ilia yeah from open AI announced this morning that he has raised $1
00:44:33
billion for his new company oh and they're going to be
00:44:39
building safe super intelligence in fact the name of the company is safe super intelligence Inc uh um and I don't uh
00:44:48
know how to feel about this but the part that really stuck out to me is they're like we're not doing products we're just
00:44:54
going to straight shot to Super intelligence product Cycles he literally says in the announcement like no product
00:45:00
Cycles we're just going to straight shot so Ilia don't murder me with your weird
00:45:06
robot th I feel like this calling it safe what what is it again safe safe
00:45:13
super intelligence okay if you are calling anything like honest review
00:45:18
truthful review if you're like if you have to put the things that we all should expect from it in the title it's
00:45:25
a red flag immediate flag yeah like so calling this safe makes me think it is already the unsafe ver a billion dollar
00:45:35
I'm unfortunately not surprised by that which is like not even enough to train to like get up to speed with what
00:45:41
everyone else is doing dude I I need to walk into the a16z offices like high as
00:45:47
on drugs and just see how much money they'll give me cuz it seems like you can just say anything and they'll give
00:45:53
you I mean they're not the only funer in this round uh there's all the big guys are in this uh NF nfg and a16z and
00:46:01
Sequoia and The Usual Suspects the usual billion dooll givers safe
00:46:07
superintelligence sounds very similar to how open AI was originally founded as a
00:46:13
open nonprofit yeah well if it helps safe super intelligence is for profit
00:46:19
from the beginning so they're for-profit and they're not selling anything why would you sell anything
00:46:25
when you can just be handed a billion dollars and yes I know how Venture
00:46:30
Capital works I know it's not free money but a billion are you kidding me
00:46:38
[Music] anyway trivia dude trivia so going on
00:46:44
with the audio round that Ellis has we have a clip which famous Tech founder is
00:46:51
this and we were trying to compete so when people signed up they wouldn't see anything that's boring so I put myself
00:46:57
as this person that could connect everyone else so you'd see people right when you signed up that was the idea who
00:47:03
is that that sounds like Christian zelig I don't oh but he's not a Founder famous I don't
00:47:11
think Apollo hadit users right a Founder
00:47:17
what Christian zelig what about him made Apollo yeah I know wa's his last name
00:47:23
selig remove that okay we'll play that again
00:47:30
after the break at the break at the end of the break at the end of the podcast
00:47:35
correct we're really struggling thatz here we need Super alignment of this

waveform comes from AT&T here's a little secret most smartphone deals aren't that exciting to be honest they're barely
00:50:25
worth mentioning but then there's the best deals you can find at AT&T now
00:50:30
those are exciting they're the kind of deals that are worth talking about like their deal on the new Samsung Galaxy Z
00:50:36
flip 6 featuring Flex cam with Galaxy AI now sure I could just say it's an
00:50:42
amazing deal and hope you believe me but with this one it's worth sharing the details you can trade in your eligible
00:50:48
smartphone for a new Samsung Galaxy Z flip 6 that's it simple any year any
00:50:54
condition a deal this good will have you shouting from from the rooftops or at the very least calling your friends from
00:50:59
your new phone to tell them about it AT&T connecting changes everything requires trading of Galaxy S Note or Z
00:51:06
smartphone limited time offer $256 GB for $0 terms and restrictions apply see at.com Samsung or visit an at store for
00:51:12
details all right welcome back I want to talk about a new game I've been playing I would like to hear it it's called
00:51:18
deadlock if you're playing games you've probably oh shoot someone's on the phone
00:51:25
again no we just kidding oh my default was like David Paris is here
00:51:30
again where is he
00:51:36
um sorry all right back deadlock if you've been playing games you probably heard
00:51:42
about this it has taken off as probably like one of the most popular games right now but it took off in the weirdest way
00:51:49
possible from what I've seen so tell me about it like you said a lot of people have not heard of it the first time I
00:51:54
heard of this game was from The Verge they made an article about it the other day that I thought was just like not a
00:52:00
great headline cuz it said it's so it's a it's a valve MOBA game moa's multiplayer online battle arena um
00:52:07
League of Legends DOTA I mean valve made DOTA they're um super super popular Dota
00:52:12
2 yeah um and then so it's like a third person shooter MOA made by Valve um so
00:52:19
it's kind of a mix between a bunch of different games but it's awesome but the Verge made this article and the reason
00:52:26
it was interesting is cuz not a lot of people had heard about it because when you open the game it's in a such a early
00:52:31
stage of play testing and invite only right now that every time you open it there's a popup that says you are
00:52:37
agreeing to not share anything about this game um and there's a little checkbox and an okay I guess the Verge
00:52:44
said you could just hit escape and get past it and then decided we'll just make the article anyways and then I believe
00:52:51
he got banned for doing the article and that weirdly created from what I've seen
00:52:56
a ton of hype around the game I know there are people playing it already but through that people started wondering
00:53:03
enough about it cuz they saw some gameplay footage from it and it looks are you about to get banned I have no idea cuz now people are full-blown
00:53:09
streaming it did you get a shape I I clicked okay allegedly you sharing
00:53:16
gameplay footage allegedly allegedly in Minecraft you hear that Gabe we're fine
00:53:21
I thought that they officially started allowing I do think it's officially allowed to shared um and but through
00:53:29
that it created all this hype I immediately was like this game looks awesome and then shout out Max wbox sent
00:53:34
me an invite and then you can send out at that point what I saw unlimited invite so I invited all of my friends
00:53:41
that I play games with none of us were really playing valerin anymore so now this is 100% the game we play almost
00:53:48
every single night um it's really really good it's that good it got you off of valerant I haven't played valerant for
00:53:54
like six months you're like the valerant guy damn itmore what happened like six months ago that could have taken you
00:54:01
off um so yeah it's for anyone that doesn't know Andrew recently became a
00:54:07
father I have a kid and they're they take up a lot of time but now she has a really consistent 700 p.m. bedtime which
00:54:14
is perfect to like eat dinner like hang out with Claire and then 9:30 game time
00:54:21
for for probably a crisp 10:30 bedtime after that to wake up in time but um yeah it it is it is really good it is a
00:54:29
lot it's like tf2 and DOTA put together so like yeah talk about it a little bit more yeah it's third person shooter you
00:54:34
have a bunch of different characters with different abilities but because it's a MOA there's Lanes there's actually four lanes in this and there's
00:54:41
neutral creeps Towers bases similar to that you know you you generate an economy buy different items level up
00:54:47
different skills all of the characters so far are super fun they there's definitely a lot of doto related skills
00:54:54
but that's like league and DOTA have a lot of characters that are super similar this is inevitably going to have that um
00:55:00
but it's just like you jump right in they have a bunch of really cool mechanics like zip lines instead of teleports back and stuff like that they
00:55:06
have shops and neutral creeps and bosses and like it's it's been really fun PVP
00:55:13
or PVE I mean it's a mob so it's both right so you have like the creeps that you're killing in Lane to push forward
00:55:18
into bases there's different monsters that give Buffs and stuff like that but you're also 6v6 um four lanes there's
00:55:26
some some kind of confusing things now on if you know mobas usually you have like solo Lanes or du Lanes MH usually
00:55:33
those are set up I'm not into gaming at all can you explain what a lane is I don't think it's worth explaining all of
00:55:39
that to be honest if you know a mobile you know what it is it's just like a style of how you play based on how many people are there and what the map looks
00:55:45
like um is OverWatch a MOA it's just like a first person shooter okay is this a but it's but it's
00:55:53
in an arena with like Hero characters sort of gen mobas have like one map oh
00:55:59
and like that Arena doesn't I think moas are one of
00:56:04
the hardest game types to explain would you agree chess a MOA I'm going to ask Gemini what a MOA is can you ask Gemini
00:56:10
what a mooba is it lies it's a really good mix between you're playing against
00:56:16
things that are computers and also people if that makes sense and through that playing against those things helps
00:56:23
out how you fight the actual people as well actually wait let's use Gemini live for this we'll see okay so fantasy football
00:56:32
is a MOA hi all right let's start chatting whenever you're ready can you explain
00:56:39
what a MOA game is a MOBA game is a type of online
00:56:44
strategy game where two teams battle against each other think of it like tug-of War but instead of pulling on a r
00:56:51
through the enemy's defenses to destroy their base each team has a base on opposite of the map protecting your base
00:56:58
and destroying the enemies is the main goal sing character with special abilities and work together with your
00:57:04
team to defeat I can hold it can I say tug of war is actually a great way to describe it that's kind of true cuz
00:57:09
you're kind of pushing back and forth to try to get think of okay easiest way to describe it there's a map right there's
00:57:16
bases that you start in on both sides and there's ways to get to those bases through the middle that have defense and
00:57:23
then you're pushing back and forth through the defenses to eventually get to the other person's base and kill that base yeah so Halo 1 Blood Gulch is a
00:57:32
mobile is Splatoon a mobile okay I think
00:57:37
mayonnaise so generally too you they're like unique Heroes with different skills and you have different roles so you'll
00:57:43
have like a Healer and then you'll have like a tank support a tank damage DOTA has hard carry and then mid and then off
00:57:51
lane and then two supports here's why I think you should try it okay because
00:57:57
what's fun what was fun about DOTA and league is like all of those roles have been super solidified whereas like since
00:58:03
Deadlock's so new people are still like it's fun to get into a game now when a lot of people are new and learning it
00:58:09
and there aren't these like Ultra defined rules where if you do one thing a little bit different in a build all
00:58:14
your teammates start flaming you cuz like mobas have to be some of the most toxic games also that's the and what's
00:58:19
interesting about DOTA is that you can actually play support characters like carries sometimes and those builds can
00:58:25
work work but people will flame you if you do that yeah you I think you should try this but there is aim involved in it
00:58:32
because it's still your main your like Auto attack or you know your default attack is always some sort of weapon ENT
00:58:39
like gun that you're shooting okay versus just like right click and it auto attacks interesting and is it Windows
00:58:45
only right now probably just cuz it's valvin on Steam I'm assuming valve makes all the games they
00:58:52
make are available on every typee of so it might be then but I don't know it's in Alpha it's super early on don't they
00:58:58
use um Team Fortress 2 models for the game there's some that look super
00:59:04
similar I thought I saw some screenshots early on that looked like the hunter from Team Fortress 2 but now I don't
00:59:10
think they're none that I know of um this is the way I'm describing how popular it is right now though so shroud
00:59:16
one of the most popular streamers in the world especially when you're talking about streamers who just play video games and are good at video games MH
00:59:22
he's been working on this game that he announced a couple months ago and just released yesterday he's been playing
00:59:29
deadlock more than the game that he like basically helped build which also has a bunch of hype but he was playing
00:59:36
deadlock and talking about how great it was and somebody like on his team was saying like oh Spectre divide you know
00:59:41
seems so good and I think it has more potential of being like a bigger game and he was like n this game rules so dang yeah the interesting thing
00:59:49
about this game too is because valve does not make that many games like they
00:59:54
for people that don't know valve made halflife and halflife 2 which are arguably some of the most famous games
00:59:59
in the world and they really defined like the PC era of gaming way back in the day and they they are also the
01:00:06
distributor of steam which is the biggest gaming Marketplace in the world for PC and mac and Linux and so it's
01:00:14
really really insane when they actually develop a game and pretty much every single time valve has ever made a game
01:00:20
it's been really really good because they're a private company they have very few employees and they let people work
01:00:26
on whatever they want basically until it's done uh sorry I want to issue a correction that I should have stepped in
01:00:32
sooner because this me a few months ago but valve pretty much removed Max support for
01:00:37
their entire catalog of what games I play DotA on Mac every day DOTA and csgo
01:00:44
are the two they kept support from but portals one and two left 4 Deads one and two the whole halflife series
01:00:50
TF2 Al they technically are still listed in Steam as supporting Macintosh but they're only playable on 32bit Maxs uh
01:00:59
they patched all the games so that you cannot run any of them on a 64-bit Mac even though you previously could they
01:01:05
decided to remove really yes uh I know because my brother shout out Mason plays
01:01:11
a lot of valve games and uh we used to play together and now we can't weird
01:01:17
thanks Gabe I was going to say I'm sure valves put out a couple bad games but if you want to talk about bangers Team
01:01:23
Fortress 2 Dota 2 halflife portal left for dead Day of Defeat like these are
01:01:28
some of the biggest games on PC yeah so it's a big deal for them to put out the one thing that kind of concerns me is
01:01:34
that valve sometimes also kind of acts like Google uh in that they have put out
01:01:40
a bunch of spin-offs of DOTA in the past that have been really amazing and then
01:01:46
they just sto supporting so back in the day when Hearthstone was really popular they made a version of hearthstone but
01:01:51
for DOTA and it was way better and it was really cool and it was called artifact and uh they basically released it and
01:01:59
then didn't support it at all after that and then closed it down they also did the same thing with um DOTA lets you
01:02:06
have like custom game modes inside of DOTA and people can build these custom game modes which is really funny and
01:02:12
ironic because the original DOTA is actually a custom game mode of Warcraft 3 um so you can someone actually built
01:02:19
Warcraft 3 inside of the DOTA custom game mode just to bring It full circle which is I very funny but they also they
01:02:26
made this game called autochess because someone had made this uh autochess game
01:02:31
in Dota which was basically like it's a it was a mixture of Chess and using DOTA
01:02:38
characters and it was very very cool and very interesting and it got so popular on Twitch and it was so insanely popular
01:02:44
that League of Legends made their own version of it team fight tactics team fight tactics and then valve decided to
01:02:49
basically make their own official version called autochess um I think it was called DOTA autochess and then they
01:02:55
eventually close that down too I just want to say David killed byv val.com is available but the problem is they don't
01:03:02
make that much Google makes Crazy amounts of stuff um so anyway it's a big deal that they're actually making
01:03:08
something new and I really really hope that because it's so popular it will continue to uh be supported yeah I just
01:03:15
think like as much fun as I'm having playing it the main thing I thought was so cool is just like it was pretty well
01:03:22
under wraps like there are people who' have been playing this for months and that Community I'm sure is like like
01:03:27
we've known about it forever but I would say the general knowledge of it was pretty lowkey and then like it kind of
01:03:33
got leaked and then a bunch of people got into it and then they're basically like all right we're open now and I think it's still considered in Alpha but
01:03:40
they've had they've had like a 200,000 Peak player concurrent Peak player already CRA that's wild yeah if you just
01:03:46
go to the deadlock page on Steam like there's nowhere to like download or anything it's just like coming
01:03:51
eventually to be announced yeah but if you know anyone that has a that has it already as far as I know invites are
01:03:58
unlimited I invited like 10 of my friends and they all got their invites within a couple hours you didn't invite me can you give me a code before they're
01:04:04
not unlimited anymore yeah for sure oh no I didn't send you one I'll send you one yeah okay cool the waveform gaming
01:04:11
podcast that's what we're doing today this whole section I can't wait for people to yell at me and Ellis but you know why and yell at us it's impossible
01:04:18
to talk about games and not get yelled at because the the gaming atmosphere is
01:04:23
so large that like you could be really well versed in one game and not know anything about another and then you're not a gamer anymore and if you yell at
01:04:30
us about the definition of a mooba blame Gemini wait so mind sweeper is a
01:04:35
[Laughter] mobile trivia dude all right first
01:04:42
question I like how they just started transitioning to trivia because they know neither of us are capable of
01:04:49
do speaking of trivia no no no no no all right so earlier this week ARS Technica
01:04:56
reported a scary sound coming from somewhere it was not supposed to come from The Sound dude I started reading
01:05:04
like a robot halfway through that that is the Ellis bot
01:05:14
says this sounds like there's a reply all episode similar to this a super text
01:05:20
support where this guy's like subletting a basement and he's like here this
01:05:26
walking up to him at night and it starts freaking him out you should go watch it but yeah it's like that's insane it's
01:05:33
very funny yes what do we got boys the B very different answers very
01:05:40
different answers uh the Boeing Starliner yeah that is correct yeah
01:05:46
Andrew uh what did what did you write buddy a microwave all right before we
01:05:52
get into the the thing yeah Andrew okay I I saw another article or it might have
01:05:58
been on Reddit it was this person and every time they they put time in their microwave it was playing like ham radio
01:06:06
uh like like truckers were like coming through and talking through the person's microwave hold on wait that's epic I
01:06:13
love that that's so so I don't hold on wow so yes this sound was
01:06:21
coming out of the cockpit of the Boeing uh star ER spacecraft um which if I was in space
01:06:29
may or may not be stuck in space and I heard this sound it's literally dead space I would
01:06:35
um immediately pee my pants uh they think the most likely answer is onboard
01:06:44
spacecraft like this you have your radio system and then you have this big patching system so you can send
01:06:50
electrical signals from all over the spaceship into the radio it's really
01:06:55
easy for little feedback loops or bleeds and stuff to happen in those complicated situations and it did not seem to be
01:07:02
dangerous in any way but talk about a fright and is this the same ship that
01:07:09
the astronauts are stuck on until 2025 some people say they're stuck so NASA
01:07:14
says that they wouldn't use that word um right so I'll leave that up you know to
01:07:21
the people this is the video I was talking about one Tik Tok coming up why
01:07:26
[Music] is oh it was
01:07:37
oh to I'm I'm I'm
01:07:42
a imagine that playing well on your microwave is go that's awesome um if you
01:07:49
are an electrical engineer and watch this show can the wave guide
01:07:56
in a microwave even though it's guiding non-ionizing radiation is that enough to actually move air enough to hear that is
01:08:02
that what's going on like is the wave guide acting as the transducer in this IEM nothing what you just said what I
01:08:10
feel like that's fake what I just said is fake that video is fake I mean it makes sense it might be fake cuz there's
01:08:16
two separate things that I'm thinking of that make it real right the first is that if you
01:08:22
run audio signal like alternating current that is audio through a Tesla
01:08:28
coil the the ionized plasma that comes from
01:08:35
the electricity going through the air can get sound to propagate through the
01:08:40
air like like neither confirm nor deny like the lightning on a Tesla coil can act as a speaker okay and then also
01:08:48
microwaves have wave guides like they have these things in them that are supposed to take electrical energy and
01:08:54
then send it through the the air in specific shapes to hit your food so it
01:09:01
protected I mean like all in a cage this might sound really dumb but don't
01:09:06
microwaves just also have speakers on them to play the noises for the beeps and the boops not all the time like for
01:09:13
beeps and boops it's usually cheaper instead of having like a conical speaker
01:09:20
and an amp um like if you take apart a lot of alarm clocks that go beep beep beep they won't have a speaker they'll
01:09:26
have what's effectively a Pio microphone wired in Reverse so like something that
01:09:33
is designed to uh receive electrical signals and oscillate and they usually
01:09:38
have that hooked up to like a piece of metal but it's not like a speaker okay in the way that we like would understand a speaker and if you were to like play
01:09:45
actual audio out of it it would be pretty indiscernable uh but yeah electrical
01:09:51
engineers let me know podcast at wave form.com wave guide make audio propagate through
01:09:57
air yeah somebody is saying they think it's a cuz in the video it says whenever they have to flip the breaker is when it
01:10:04
does it so they're saying it's like some like bootup sequence that's playing
01:10:10
it who I don't know but anyways just so I don't look like a total lunatic
01:10:15
guessing microwave when David gets the Boeing star whatever thing I'm just addicted to news bro I just read too
01:10:22
much second question but quick update on Score first Marquez still with a cool
01:10:28
16 Andrew in the lead with 20 Dam David after getting that question right with
01:10:35
19 okay pulling up the big question so David for the tie which famous Tech
01:10:42
founder is this and we were trying to compete so when people signed up they wouldn't see anything that's boring so I
01:10:48
put myself as this person that could connect everyone else so you'd see people right when you signed up that was the idea
01:10:56
who could it be automatically follow someone on this platform famous
01:11:03
if Google optimize oh conversational actions I feel like I
01:11:10
know what the platform is I just don't know what I don't know what the platform is Google Assistant snapshot who you
01:11:15
automatically follow famous vr180 Creator all right flip them and read who
01:11:22
do you got I wrote in cursive okay um um I wrote Twitter which is not oh you
01:11:28
wrote a platform also because I didn't yeah I was gonna say why' you guys write the platform because I just wanted to make it feel like I had somewhat of an
01:11:34
idea that was Jack dy's voice but Sundar was it I both wrong Andrew you wrote
01:11:42
goog plus that it wasn't Google Plus goog cuz Marquez used to always talk about how he thought he was like the
01:11:47
default guy that got suggested on Google+ which is why he was the most followed it was definitely him and Guy Kawasaki they definitely were the two
01:11:55
guy kwasaki is like a tech evangelist guy oh the answer and here is one of the
01:12:00
men it are okay I thought thought they'd say his name in the full clip that's
01:12:06
embarrassing it was uh would you like to say it Adam you say it was the founder
01:12:11
of Myspace oh oh Tom context clues Andrew we just
01:12:18
talked about myspace and that makes no sense this is how would I know that well this is a clip from CBC so and Tom was
01:12:26
like plus one for him being I'm pretty sure Tom was number one on everyone's top eight automatically when you made a
01:12:31
page wow cocky M no he's American American cocky
01:12:39
M all right well I think that's it don't worry Marquez will be here who are you to say
01:12:45
