Are the Nothing Ear (2) Worth it?

April 14, 2023 / 58:45

This episode of the Waveform podcast covers topics such as the new Windows Snipping Tool feature, the Mini Cooper's AI dog, the Nothing Year Two earbuds, and updates on Rivian's R2 platform.

Hosts Marquez, Andrew, and David discuss the recent announcement that Windows will make the print screen button open the Snipping Tool, which allows users to select specific areas for screenshots. Andrew emphasizes how overdue this feature is for Windows users.

The conversation shifts to Mini Cooper's new concept featuring an AI dog named Spike, which is designed to interact with drivers. The hosts express skepticism about the practicality of having a cartoon dog distracting drivers while providing assistance.

They also review the Nothing Year Two earbuds, highlighting improvements in sound quality and design, while noting that noise cancellation is still lacking. The hosts compare these earbuds to competitors like AirPods Pro and Sony's offerings.

Lastly, the hosts share their excitement for Rivian's upcoming R2 platform, discussing features they hope to see in the new SUV, including dual motors and a front trunk.

TL;DR

Windows Snipping Tool update, Mini Cooper's AI dog, Nothing Year Two earbuds review, Rivian R2 platform discussion.

00:00:05
welcome back to another episode of the waveform podcast we're your hosts I'm Marquez I'm Andrew and I'm David and
00:00:11
this is uh we're back in the studio last episode was uh shot in a rivian r1s and we had RJ scouring the CEO of rivian
00:00:18
talked about a variety of things I thought it was really fun if you haven't watched or listened to that one definitely check it out we got some some
00:00:25
exclusives actually some interesting information about some new stuff they're doing with the wireless charger and the
00:00:30
gear tunnel and the camp kitchen and all that part two R2 platform very cool
00:00:36
um I'm just generally rooting for them because I think their first two products are really good and I'm a product person and when I see good products I'm like
00:00:42
yeah keep keep making those keep making good stuff so check that out that's up uh today we've got also a bunch more
00:00:48
stuff to talk about including an AI dog in your car maybe uh the nothing year
00:00:53
two is out Max sales possibly plummeting and new iPhone displays or at least
00:00:59
rumors about them but first Andrew uh has earmarked this as the most important
00:01:04
announcement he's ever made so not I've ever made I didn't make this is I think it's the most overdue Tech feature in
00:01:11
existence the most overdue text feature in existence Windows is making the print
00:01:16
screen button open the snippet tool like the Snipping Tool yeah yeah did it
00:01:24
not no what did it what is the snippet okay okay I guess I'll have to like Windows
00:01:31
forever when you hit print School print screen just copies your desktop and puts it on
00:01:38
the clipboard a full screen screen full screenshot of your desktop okay as many
00:01:43
monitors as you have the whole thing and puts it on your clipboard doesn't make it a file puts it on your clipboard and
00:01:49
you have to then open it I mean okay so for people who don't know this whole desktop clipboard you have to open
00:01:55
up like paint paste it then if you want something specific in there I have a vertical Monitor and a landscape monitor
00:02:01
so I open paint paste oh like sideways t Okay and then I have to find the thing I
00:02:06
want to snip out and then take that out in paint and then save it as a file useless button it's a it's not useless
00:02:13
because it's the way to actually do it we'll just take a screenshot of what you actually want well they've also with a
00:02:19
snippet tool but now the print screen button just actually lets you select immediately oh really yes they've had
00:02:24
the Snipping tool for a while but you always have to open the apps you have to like type snip it and yeah like down
00:02:30
there which is that was easy I mean it's not I guess there's sometimes those button and just type snip and enter and it's always the first thing and then
00:02:36
just take a screenshot there's some hospital that is using a version of like Windows 95 that is so mad yeah well they
00:02:45
should be mad for that reason yeah I don't think that the Snipping Tool even existed on Windows 95 yeah exactly I'm
00:02:51
pretty sure they only added the enhanced Snipping Tool in a like a recent version probably like 10 yeah it wouldn't
00:02:58
retroactively change the enhancement because they made a new one they made it better now yeah but I would always take
00:03:03
screenshots and windows by hitting windows key snip or screenshot I would this is like a screenshot app I think
00:03:09
that might have been like Windows Vista or something but there are also times like in a game when you like want to
00:03:15
take a quick screenshot of something like there'll be times where something's glitching out and you're just like to
00:03:20
your friends like what's going on on my screen and you want to take a quick screenshot and actually not just have it sit on your clipboard and forget about
00:03:26
it and like so being able to actually save a file directly I don't know I'm very excited this is also something
00:03:31
that's been on Mac for
00:03:38
options of being able to record or select an area it like just changes your like you basically get to choose where
00:03:45
to save it all that stuff but four is just selecting and having it which I do all the time I do all the time my
00:03:50
desktop is usually 90 percent screenshots from that tool like at all
00:03:55
times you should see Tim's desktop it's just like exports of memes that he accidentally made and like thumbnails of
00:04:02
the waveform podcast it's it's like actually a staggering amount of them on his desktop yeah it's a lot Chrome OS
00:04:08
has a very good uh Snipping tool that is a key and it automatically opens the
00:04:13
sipping tool you can do recording you can do area you can do you know that's what the print screen button should be
00:04:19
well now kids these days now it is yes kids these days won't know what print screen even means they don't even know
00:04:24
what printing is yeah they don't know print they don't know they're not going to know what a screen is they're even yeah they're a link I would agree this
00:04:31
is the most overdue thing it's super overdue that that should have been a long time ago but yeah sorry that's the
00:04:36
end of my speaking of things that will never be overdue um Mini Cooper what mini
00:04:42
is adding this is a headline they're adding a stupid that was my title sorry
00:04:48
do my headline our headline is mini is adding a stupid AI dog to distract you
00:04:54
while driving works it's not stupid okay let's just let's explain what's happening here if you've ever seen the
00:05:00
inside of a Mini Cooper they have this like large circular uh dial in the middle yeah it's like
00:05:07
they're aesthetic there's a big circular thing in the middle it's really ugly yeah you know it is what it is it's their aesthetic they own it fine yeah um
00:05:14
this concept of a future Mini Cooper this large circular dial in the middle is just one huge circular screen which I
00:05:22
guess that's what they picture their future to be like also again fine you can do that
00:05:27
um but for some reason they have added a English bulldog named Spike that's a
00:05:33
cartoon dog that just dances around your screen and acts as an assistant in some
00:05:39
capacity uh when you actually watch the video it just seems like oh it's gonna distract you while you're driving it's just
00:05:45
dancing around like literally it has like the navigation like small and tucked over to the right like you need to turn in 50 meters but also here's a
00:05:52
huge dog twerking in the middle of History what is going on this is a weird uh hierarchy of information I can just
00:05:59
see you getting in a really bad car accident there's steam coming out of your car and the dog's just twerking glitching out in the center having to
00:06:05
explain why you rear-ended someone it's like I'm sorry Spike was just freaking out on ice cream like it's weird I what
00:06:12
would you want this dog to do why why are they even doing this they haven't exactly said what it's going to do just
00:06:18
that it will um what did they say it was very low-key it will just help support with features
00:06:24
of the car essentially which I think is basically just remember the Mercedes like I don't think it's going to be this
00:06:31
we talk about chat GPT and all this AI stuff now I don't think it's going to be a chat GPT enabled dog rope AI or
00:06:38
whatever it's probably just going to be like Google Assistant with us stupid dog that jumps around and but like we've
00:06:44
seen cars do this like Mercedes had its own virtual assistant and they're terrible they're all bad this is just
00:06:49
going to be that but when it's terrible at least it's coming from a cute little dog and maybe you won't you know what I
00:06:54
complain about it all the time I will say this is the only one that I've seen in a car that's not using the name of the car brand as a trigger word so when
00:07:02
you're driving a Mercedes and you want to uh trigger the the key phrase you
00:07:07
literally anytime it thinks you say the word Mercedes it just fires up the mic and it goes what can I do for you
00:07:12
Ferrari does the same thing and it's they're both way too easily like
00:07:17
accidentally triggered like Siri so maybe Spike is one of those things where like you
00:07:24
can just talk to spike instead of having to say hey mini or something like that what about this is AI yeah exactly
00:07:33
I'm assuming that they're trying to make people think that they're gonna have like a natural language in a like
00:07:40
integration which is fine but it's not yeah like they just don't do AI thing yeah no no no but uh it's clippy The
00:07:47
Verge wrote an article about it and they said in absence of contract concrete details of what many about Spike will
00:07:53
actually do here's some things we'd like barking uncontrollably when anyone in the car says the word walk or walkies
00:08:00
quietly saying rut row if you mix here so much and taking control of the car to
00:08:06
chase squirrels whenever possible that's pretty funny yeah that'd be good and also distracting you like it's the only
00:08:13
screen they don't have a screen behind the steering wheel this is the only screen but there's there's technically a screen on the dashboard it's just made
00:08:19
up of like mini it's like a mini doll is this weird concept where if you look in another picture spike is actually off to
00:08:25
the side yeah on it which because he runs off of the off of the screen and onto the Matrix yeah this is all in the
00:08:32
concept which also yeah I do think this concept Ace man Mini Cooper looks pretty nice he actually looks kind of cool the
00:08:38
headlights look great the front grille looks great there's some things on it that I don't think are gonna be in a real car
00:08:43
um that's a concept but like the they do say that Spike will be coming to a 2023 Countryman and the 2024 Mini Cooper so
00:08:50
we have to get a car I guess we have to get it and try this I I'm wondering in those ones they won't have the dot
00:08:56
matrix things so it can't run off is it gonna be there when you're driving is it
00:09:02
gonna be this big when you're driving or is that like a parked thing maybe you'll just be sleep you really shouldn't just like who cares about your speed here's
00:09:09
Spike that's spit chasing its tail while you're driving it's the size of your steering wheel it's gigantic it's huge
00:09:14
yeah that that hopefully isn't doing that while you're driving I'm wondering
00:09:19
uh I don't know what to think about this it's also we remember we've talked about like car companies can they be good
00:09:27
software companies you know like we've seen Mercedes make incredible cars and then you get in there and you start
00:09:32
using the software and you're like ah you're good at cars but not software
00:09:37
yeah they sort of just we just deal with it and everyone goes just give me car play because it's better than what you built
00:09:43
um is many somehow going to be a a decent software company in the next three years I don't know we'll see no I
00:09:51
feel like the answer to your question is can they be yes will they be by example have they proved it to us no no will
00:09:58
they be probably not yeah if you have to take care of Spike like a Tamagotchi I'm all in feed it under your car after like
00:10:06
a week of being on vacation and he's just like sleeping in the middle of a thing like what's going on imagine if you go too fast and starts getting mad
00:10:12
at you or you start going too slow in the left lane and it starts getting mad at you that's interesting you know what
00:10:19
that reminds me of so we uh we didn't talk about this on the podcast but we did briefly have here the Mercedes
00:10:24
vision eqxx and this was the sort of
00:10:29
efficiency model from Mercedes like if we can just build the most efficient car we possibly can that's street legal I'm
00:10:35
not counting the app Tara sorry uh but this is the one that they're getting like 700 miles of range out of it's got
00:10:42
solar panels on the roof it's got an extended tail it's got all these Arrow features it slips through the air with a
00:10:47
0.18 drag coefficient and one of the things that was actually kind of cool is on the inside there's a screen that
00:10:52
helps you drive most efficiently based on your real time like driving so if you
00:10:57
put your foot down too hard on the on the accelerator pedal the little uh speedometer turns a little bit red and
00:11:04
you let off the accelerator goes back to Blue it's just trying to get you the perfect efficiency going over Hills
00:11:09
driving around which is interesting that's almost smarter and more useful
00:11:14
than a tiny dog and you would probably do that more if a dog was barking at you when you were being inefficient
00:11:19
fair fair touche technically true we got to teach Mac to do this that would be kind of
00:11:25
yeah no he's generally scared in the car but still loves it doesn't work when you go fast no he does not he does he just
00:11:31
grips into the back seat that's fair yeah yeah I I wanted to one more thing while we're on the topic of evuse real
00:11:38
quick and I don't like the r1s was here last week it was incredible I loved it I
00:11:44
really liked it and I really liked the r1t as well yeah but this R2 platform I'm going to make a just I'm very
00:11:51
excited for it I have a checklist and if this checklist becomes true I will pre-order it the first date so now it's
00:11:58
big time all right and I don't think you told me this and I made sure that he brought it up don't think this is that unreasonable either if the R2 the R2 SUV
00:12:06
so I'm thinking like similar size to my first maybe even a little bigger okay dual motor I want four wheel drive at
00:12:12
least so dual motor I'll go that at least 280 miles of range I would prefer
00:12:17
300 under 60k okay I still want it to be boxy and similar
00:12:23
to the r1s I hate these crossovers that have like a hatchback but it's slanted
00:12:29
so you lose all the head space you have from that yes like so I want it to stay the same like nice and boxy on that part
00:12:36
yeah yeah and then I still wanted to have a front trunk which I feel like is becoming on smaller cars isn't really
00:12:43
there we're really only seeing it in well or some sedans but there are a lot of Legacy car manufacturers coming out
00:12:49
without front trunks now I hate that okay so I'm gonna go through your list one by one okay I think this is a pretty
00:12:55
good list and I think most of them are going to happen front trunk I almost guarantee will happen Okay because
00:13:00
exactly what you said Legacy car manufacturers are not as good at
00:13:05
building the entire EV platform from scratch with that front trunk space in mind they kind of just seem to like
00:13:12
shove all the electronics where the trunk would be and or yeah where the front engine would be so yeah the
00:13:19
smaller ones the Aria the Leaf the even the ev6 or the ionic they all have tiny
00:13:24
front trunks is the monk does the monkey have one not very big okay because they don't even think it does it have one I
00:13:30
forget I was gonna say Ford with F-150 that is one place that that nailed it like I do think the F-150 front trunk is
00:13:37
better than the rivian front trunk just because you have that lip coming down between the yes the headlights that's
00:13:43
better it's like a massive too it's huge and like you can like sit in it where the rivian is like a lip up right like
00:13:49
having that with the cooler space and everything is really neat the Maki does have a front track as well so Ford's one
00:13:55
of the Legacy car manufacturers that seems to be doing okay shout out to them I think the rivian you'll get a front trunk okay uh boxy not slanted crossover
00:14:02
I think you're gonna have that boxy shape again I think that would make sense uh dual motor so dual motor and
00:14:08
280 miles of range kind of live in this Balancing Act where typically the more efficient version is the single motor
00:14:15
rear-wheel drive and the higher performance version with dual motors gets less rain range so why I wrote 280
00:14:23
is because I always say 300 but I would not be surprised if this came out with a single motor 300 and a dual motor 280.
00:14:30
okay and I would prefer the dual motor on an SUV like that to have all-wheel
00:14:35
drive when talking to RJ it seemed like the priority was still to make it capable
00:14:40
enough to be an adventure vehicle it's just that most people don't need the Absurd capabilities of what the R1
00:14:47
platform can do right now so I think we can count on dual motor and I think 280 miles of range feels reasonable given an
00:14:56
advancement in Battery Technology under 60k is the last one uh I think that's a
00:15:01
goal I wouldn't be shocked if it was right around that line right around that
00:15:06
line so our two player I mean what we're gonna see this is all just us predicting and I I don't think we know anything
00:15:12
that the public doesn't who hasn't watched our interview but that that feels pretty pretty good and I put 60 as
00:15:18
my Max like it has to be under 60. so I feel like this should if they could get
00:15:23
that at 55 50 55 it would be fantastic yeah yeah I think that's what they're
00:15:29
gonna aim for model three model y so yeah I'll pre-order I'll pre-order on the podcast if this is what happens yeah
00:15:35
we're gonna hold you to that I like that sick I already put it in notion
00:15:41
luckily Claire doesn't listen to this you're locked in perfect all right well we'll take a quick break but before we
00:15:46
do that we should do trivia trivia time okay so we were talking
00:15:55
about the Snipping Tool before and how now it's uh what is it you just press the print screen something like that
00:16:00
yeah and it pulls up okay so before that what was the correct keyboard shortcut
00:16:05
for launching the Snipping tool on Windows and there are multiple so I have like a bunch here what do you give me
00:16:11
anyone any of them yeah because it like depends on the hardware you have depends on like Windows 10 Windows 11 like
00:16:16
there's a bunch of different ones oh so if you give me any one of them okay you get the point I'm gonna be guessing but
00:16:22
uh yeah because I like I said I hit Windows key and it hits snip enter so I was gonna say but the most common one is
00:16:28
what you would think snippet s that's save so you lose the most obvious one
00:16:34
yeah I have a guess at all right well think about it answers will be at the end like usual we'll be right
00:16:40
back [Music]
00:16:50
all right welcome back we've got some uh some updates of things to talk about first one nothing year two you guys have
00:16:58
both used the nothing year two actually in this case more than I have and I'm I'm very curious about your thoughts I
00:17:03
have it categorized in my head just the way I'm thinking about it since I haven't used them much as a minor update
00:17:08
but with the one important new thing being they have custom drivers now and I
00:17:13
could potentially make a big difference to the sound quality but aesthetically they look the same battery life I think
00:17:19
should be the same case a little smaller yeah tell me what your experience has been like yeah
00:17:24
um so yeah the case is a little bit better because there's a couple materials in the case that were improved
00:17:30
so that it isn't like crazy scratchy um my biggest thing is that the the sound quality is way better than the
00:17:37
first generation I wouldn't say it's like you know the best earbud sound quality ever but it is significantly
00:17:42
better so these are 150 earbuds yeah do they sound like 150 earbuds yes okay yes
00:17:48
I would say that yeah they sound like 150 earbuds and the fit is amazing just
00:17:54
like the the ear one fit was also amazing ear to fit is um is also really
00:17:59
good but the uh noise cancellation is not
00:18:04
very good I was using them like walking around all morning and there's not a
00:18:10
huge difference between using noise cancellation and not noise cancellation yeah I do the first ones were like
00:18:16
horrible like I almost would argue the first ones if you put on noise cancellation it may have sound worse
00:18:21
than if you did I feel like you could actively hear it between noise cancellation and transparency like
00:18:27
figuring out noises and screwing up your audio as I was doing it and these are a
00:18:32
bit better yeah um but like ultimately I do think they sound is
00:18:37
there anything else you want to say I mean I think that they they look really good they fit really well and they sound really good so
00:18:43
um they're still really fun to fidget with because they still have that divot yeah it's actually exactly I was like I didn't even realize I was doing it yeah
00:18:50
you guys both sitting here I'm like watching you I was like yeah hold up for the camera but you're both like fidgeting yeah because it's perfect for
00:18:55
that I think pricing wise like you could get a very good pair of some of the best earbuds from like last year for that
00:19:02
price or um you know even even airpods Pro are not that expensive are they
00:19:09
they're they're at 200 all the time so they're more they're definitely 50 more which is you know a decent amount more
00:19:15
um but they don't look cool they don't look cool their noise isolation is way
00:19:20
better though um but then again they like won't work as well with Android phones yeah and I
00:19:25
don't think like many people with an iPhone are looking to buy these anyways so like this is clearly something for
00:19:31
Android users if you have an iPhone get airpods bro but I do think these look better I still love how they look I do
00:19:38
like the new case on the bottom because it's not getting destroyed do you remember like Becca when she used the first one that's so scary that's
00:19:44
terrible if you want to like um I think my thing I like the most though is now
00:19:49
instead of tapping on the side it's got a pinch feature which is something I love and even though these do fit
00:19:55
there's always going to be a time where you have to push things back into your ear and as much as I love like the Sony link buds s every time I do that I'll
00:20:03
pause I'll turn on transparency mode or something like I'll just mess up what I'm doing by just like a simple push back in my ear and that's a lot of
00:20:09
headphones so pinch is fantastic um but then I need to talk about the
00:20:16
weirdest thing about them and Marcus you haven't heard this yet but when you turn on when you switch between transparency
00:20:22
modes it it has a really nice clicking feature when you just play pause it just
00:20:27
like kind of clicks when you do transparency mode it like breathes in your ear yeah because like
00:20:33
yeah and it's only when you turn it off is it I thought it was when you switch between yeah when you when you go when
00:20:40
you turn it on it goes but when you turn it off it goes no no when you when you
00:20:45
switch like do you mean the headphones or at all when you're switching the transparency modes yeah long hold yeah
00:20:51
it goes yeah
00:20:56
it's pretty low volume but I hear it you can turn it up it's like it's like
00:21:02
probably a third line it's not going to change the volume of everything I don't think okay so now pinch and hold
00:21:09
oh I don't oh no I don't like that did you hear that through the mic no I didn't really
00:21:14
barely I could barely hear it well we'll get Ellis to try and replicate it somehow or record it it's really awkward
00:21:19
yeah it's like someone exhaling very uncomfortable do you guys want to try it yeah it kind of makes your your back
00:21:26
hair stand up you know like someone whispering in your hair at
00:21:32
the bar yeah it's pretty uncomfortable smelling
00:21:38
Salt's reaction yeah yeah do smelling salts and that at the same time what it feels like to do Five Guys
00:21:45
commercial yeah it's weird it's just changing or let us change it yeah add a
00:21:50
custom that'd be cool all the other ones all the other stuff is great in the like the pinch the feedback of just like play
00:21:57
pause is like a really nice tap it's just a noise but it almost feels like you're getting physical feedback in the
00:22:03
yeah the earbud and I think it's fantastic um but yeah I I think for 150
00:22:08
these are worth it where the old ones weren't when they changed the price to 150 yeah I would still 129 would be like
00:22:16
that would be way better yeah I was gonna say I really I still really like like the link buds s and I think those
00:22:21
are about the same price and those go on sale oh that's awesome yeah um and so yeah I don't know how do they compare to
00:22:28
the Bose QC the bows are incredible but they're expensive right but they're like 300. 300 I think so yeah those compete
00:22:37
with like the wf-1000 xm5s from Sony which are also
00:22:43
like 350 or 300 yeah they're insanely good though yeah I do have to say I'm
00:22:48
also using your dollars the Beats fits Pro Beats fit Pro I do really like those are like I like them they don't hurt my
00:22:56
ears so I've heard that a lot they don't hurt my ears they stay in really solid and while it doesn't have a stem to
00:23:01
press it's a physical clicking button to change transmission modes and play pause
00:23:07
and everything so you know exactly when you're actually doing it and you can still touch your ears without setting everything off so it's good I do and the
00:23:14
uh noise canceling on those are fantastic I went into the gym with that
00:23:19
guy who plays music on his speaker out loud and I didn't notice he was doing it until I pulled one out to talk to
00:23:25
someone and I was like what's happening in here all of a sudden Bad Bunny was playing here that's amazing well that's good yeah I
00:23:32
mean if you want to compete on sound quality you kind of have to step up in price and it sounds like uh if you don't
00:23:38
care about active noise cancellation these are probably in the realm of like a goodbye I do like these a lot the
00:23:43
second you do care about noise cancellation you have to step up and press yeah to at least airpods Pro or I
00:23:49
mean even the even the um Sony the link but the link buds s have decent noise
00:23:55
didn't yeah the S have pretty good well the Old Link buds were the ones with the hole with the hole so they literally
00:24:00
didn't have noise cancellation yeah um yeah the link button sets are great yeah they are and Best Buy put them on sale for like 9 nine dollars yeah they're
00:24:07
like yeah they're very often 130 and then they go to 99 sometimes and they have pretty good noise cancellations all
00:24:13
the time though yeah yeah but I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly when they came out that the airpods pro also have
00:24:19
a hole they're they're vented they're not like they're not sealed the the link buds s are literally a hole in your ear
00:24:26
the link below sorry sorry I'm pretty sure that outside great on the airpods
00:24:31
is is also like has a direct path to your there is yeah pass through I think um a couple of them have mentioned they
00:24:38
started doing that to like relieve pressure exactly yeah I think Galaxy buds also do this galaxy buds Pro might
00:24:44
do the same thing uh which it just helps not feel like you're you're pressurized
00:24:51
when you're listening to something with noise cancellation on which is good uh yeah no that's good that's good news it
00:24:56
is I think it's a good price a good enough price could be better but it's good enough it's it's the company that's
00:25:02
new so if they can be the like really good price yeah and it's like I want it I would recommend it immediately so I
00:25:09
wish if they could have stopped if they could have stayed at 99 that would have been so good I would recommend these to
00:25:14
literally non-stop that would be different yeah they're on my favorite looking ones too yeah very good speaking of minor updates we did want to mention
00:25:21
uh Android 14 beta one is now out so we're kind of in that like winding up to
00:25:27
Google I O cycle where we get like a trickle of new features beta 2 is going to come out we're gonna get some
00:25:33
pre-release stuff and then Google I O is going to happen and we're gonna get boom Android 14 yeah and probably some some
00:25:40
some headline worthy new features as of right now there's I don't think there's anything headline worthy in these early betas some data transparency features
00:25:47
some some tiny UI fixes yeah it's rare that we see like really
00:25:52
really big updates anymore in Android updates um it's a lot of minor stuff but to be
00:25:58
fair none of the material used stuff in Android 12 was in any of the like
00:26:03
developer previews and we only saw it at i o right so maybe we could have some
00:26:08
other sleeve yeah for 14. yeah although yeah they're definitely in the material you've looked now like aesthetically we
00:26:14
don't get a big refresh but every couple years yeah because we don't really need it anymore so I'm also very very excited
00:26:20
for Io I just want to put that out there there's going to be so much Hardware dropping I'm very excited we're gonna get more barred related stuff almost
00:26:26
feels like we definitely for sure I would bet you the assistant is they're gonna like announce that assistant's been integrated with that's what I want
00:26:33
stuff I want all of The Bard and Google Assistant combo one twos that I can
00:26:38
possibly get yeah at i o and we're getting our tablet
00:26:48
I guess we just know this year right yeah this year we're gonna get more announcements about it okay so either be
00:26:54
IO or the picture but I'm just looking forward to walking in that morning and
00:26:59
David wearing his Google socks and his Google hat yeah baby that's all I care about the Google bicycle and the nearly
00:27:06
all the red white and blue red yellow green and blue yeah stuff red white and blue Fair sick I have like one more
00:27:13
thing on here it's just funny to see uh Apple halting M2 Chip production in January amid plummeting Max sales for
00:27:21
the M2 um and essentially just like they ramp down production on to chips because they weren't selling quite as good and I
00:27:28
think it's really obvious why because M1 was just insane yeah and it's a minor
00:27:34
upgrade I mean like it's the one of the first times I've ever seen you get a review unit for something new and not
00:27:40
use it yeah as like your new like stuck with the older model M1 still using M1
00:27:45
yeah the the Quantum Leap was from the last generation of Intel Max to the
00:27:50
first generation of Apple silicon Max which is why we're still I say we which
00:27:56
is why I'm still hoping a Mac Pro shows up um probably not gonna happen but uh yeah
00:28:01
now I've I've found myself recommending laptops to a few people I had a friend ask me well I need to get a new laptop
00:28:07
what should I get I recommended the M1 MacBook Air which is the older design
00:28:12
but it's just the it's the 900 like way better than the Intel version thin
00:28:18
you've got the ports like the M2 MacBook Air is nice and it's got a slightly updated design but you don't need to spend the extra money they made it more
00:28:24
expensive so I keep I keep finding myself recommending M1 level stuff to people as I continue to use an M1 Ultra
00:28:32
MacBook myself it's it's really good M1 Max yeah I do really really like the new
00:28:38
design of the M2 MacBook Air and I to me the new screen design is is pretty pretty worth the extra couple hundred
00:28:43
dollars for the air for sure so this is like a regular person who's like all I'm gonna do with this is spreadsheets video
00:28:50
calls like the classic normal web browsing stuff yeah you do and like what was your old laptop screen
00:28:57
like and they were like this is the garbage laptop I use I was like you're gonna have a great time with the M1 air
00:29:02
this is true you'll be fine so yeah yeah that's where we're at I'm not shocked um not shocked I also don't see this
00:29:08
stopping for a few Generations also because people who bought M1 and bought high level m1s are gonna use them for
00:29:15
years I mean they're not upgrading probably till like if we do this every single year M4 M5 yeah I mean I think
00:29:21
the main thing we're looking for is a MacBook oh sorry a Mac Pro that's what
00:29:26
we're excited for yeah seems like it didn't happen for them too maybe M3 will be here we're gonna get M3 before we get
00:29:33
a MacBook Pro yeah maybe I just actually put this in here to make Marquez be sad about that why is there no Tower I mean
00:29:40
look the M1 Ultra Max studio is great it's been really good
00:29:47
but that's why I want a Mac Pro because it's gotta be better right yeah
00:29:53
um man yeah I have an M1 Max MacBook Pro and I don't see a need to upgrade it for
00:29:59
the next like five years yeah yeah it's gonna be so so we're expecting M3 stuff to start kind of soon right it's gonna
00:30:05
be probably the Baseline stuff uh iMac uh Mac Mini do you think we get another
00:30:12
13-inch MacBook Pro M3 oh god with touch bar I don't know I don't think so I bet
00:30:19
it comes out that was such a funny video we're like that is this is the weirdest product they could have come out with yeah and then we're gonna we're gonna
00:30:25
all wonder what happened to the Mac Pro so does it does it just disappear here's my question Apple sometimes just goes we're not
00:30:32
going to do this anymore remember air power for example we never got an official on stage hey remember how we
00:30:39
announced air power never mind we're shutting that down it just kind of
00:30:44
dissipated with like Into Thin Air with like a couple articles about how the program was dead and they couldn't do it
00:30:49
is that what's happening with the Mac Pro We're not gonna get like Apple going hey because the last thing we heard was
00:30:57
the developing yes it got to the Mac Studio and they're like and that completes the new Mac lineup of Apple
00:31:03
silicon and there's only one left Mac Pro right like they said that out loud yeah as if they still had plans for it
00:31:09
yeah and that's now it's they're way past this yeah they had a timeline for it too right the conversion in the next
00:31:15
two years what do you think they would add besides like maybe two like M2 Ultras modular tied together
00:31:22
just modular GPU just let me use whatever GPU will that be better though so there's going to be like PCI
00:31:28
expansion there are still things like if I want to store a card for GPU encoding or yeah or storage if I have a 16
00:31:35
terabyte PCI thing I want to just add and pop one in and out like that sort of thing like the performance benefits of
00:31:42
of doubling up the M2 Ultra again would just be absurd I don't think that's even necessary
00:31:48
um but the weakness of the integrated GPU is still real and if you do value
00:31:54
GPU power the Mac Pro with the Intel chip is still better because you can still put a giant GPU or a pair of them
00:32:00
in there so that's what I was hoping for uh it doesn't have to be huge just needs
00:32:05
me to have like two PCI slots that's it it would actually fit better in the trash can now it would actually make
00:32:11
sense well it would fit in the trash can and not fry the GPU from overheating yeah it seemed like there was a couple
00:32:18
Max there in that awkward time where they didn't have apple silicon but they were making designs like as if they had
00:32:25
Apple silicon which was one fan for an entire Mac Pro and like the ultra thin
00:32:30
laptops that just started overheating this nuking i9s in those MacBook Pros well you know I forgot about those I
00:32:36
didn't expect you to go this Gloom of now comparing the new Mac Pro to air power sorry I wasn't expecting to go
00:32:43
there it's on the same page and I wasn't even really looking for it to air power that much but I was really looking
00:32:48
forward to the Mac Pro I was Apple you made him cry he's crying man
00:32:56
I don't know I I guess I should just stop hoping for it that's when it comes yeah that's the
00:33:02
number one rule in tech support that I think is it the problem has to break you first and then it will work I think
00:33:07
that's what's probably so the Mac Pro has broken you yeah and now it's coming Fair now hit that trivia music yeah
00:33:16
oh God the new nothing year two buds have an IP rating of ip54 the 4 in ip54 describes
00:33:26
the Bud's ability to withstand what oh I need to make sure I get this I was so
00:33:32
sure and then I was not
00:33:37
I know I know David has this one too so I have to knock this up do you know I I feel like I know well I'm 50 50.
00:33:45
yeah there are two things and I know which each what each of them is but now I need to remember which one which one
00:33:51
yeah it's a LOL squid okay that was a SpongeBob reference no sorry guys I'm
00:33:57
gonna have to think about that one the the five or the four the four the
00:34:02
four four okay oh yeah through it yeah yeah I'm like 70. he told me this one
00:34:08
and I confidently said what I thought and I was wrong Perfect all right we're gonna leave it that and we'll be right
00:34:14
back foreign
00:34:23
we're back let's talk um we got to talk about this article that came out about the the road map for the iPhone I
00:34:30
remember when we first got the Notch and then a bunch of other smartphones started coming out with like the pill
00:34:35
and then they started shrinking the pill and it was just a whole punch cut out we all said oh maybe in two years it'll
00:34:41
just be gone and then the iPhone will also have to get rid of it because everyone else will have gotten rid of it and now we're in this world where most
00:34:47
of us have just gotten used to the circle hole punch cut out it's kind of just pause there and there's a few
00:34:53
phones that have under screen uh selfie cameras and they're not good yet there's like two generations of this technology
00:34:59
it doesn't look great no so I don't see most of the mainstream phones adopting anytime soon but we did get this uh this
00:35:06
tweet which is now deleted but now is in the form of an article that we can look at which is the road map for when the
00:35:12
iPhone plans to get rid of the notch so as of right now we have the non-pro
00:35:18
iPhone and the pro iPhone the non-pro iPhone has a notch the pro iPhone has
00:35:23
Dynamic Island non-pro iPhone Pro iPhone both have face ID when are they gonna get rid of this
00:35:29
stuff so I'm going to read through I'm just going to go down the line for both the non-pro and the pro and we can get
00:35:36
reactions and before you do that it was something we've talked about previously on should the non-pro iPhone have Dynamic
00:35:43
island or is that a promotion thing or like why does it not have it is it just and I think David had a bunch of I
00:35:49
predicted correctly that uh the non-pro iPhone would get the pill next year or
00:35:56
this year yeah so as of today the non-pro iPhones do feel
00:36:01
very dated they just look dated which means to me 60 hertz
00:36:08
and giant Notch at the top and an 800 700 phone is just not anywhere near the
00:36:14
rest they all have moved on from that so let's look at the roadmap for non-pro iPhones 2023
00:36:22
pill so getting rid of the Notch and still ltps which is not ltpo so still 60
00:36:30
hertz so this year getting rid of you know going to Dynamic Islands seems cool 2024
00:36:37
still Dynamic Island still 60 hertz 2025 still Dynamic Island but now ltpo
00:36:45
so 2025 is when we finally go past 60 hertz on the non-pro iPhone 2026 still Dynamic Island ltpo Again
00:36:55
2027 under panel face ID plus a hole for
00:37:00
the camera and ltpo yeah so 2027 is four years from now which is when the non-pro iPhones
00:37:07
will have under display face ID but still have a hole punch for the camera and be ltpo this makes sense to me
00:37:13
because if you're going to introduce a new feature like Dynamic Island and try to get developers to develop for it
00:37:18
you're not just gonna like do it for a couple years like even if they have under this under panel face ID ready in
00:37:24
2025 or 2026 I'm pretty sure they want to make it last longer yeah before they
00:37:31
switch to under display it almost like helps them for it to be more well entrenched and established because when
00:37:37
the new one comes out then it's more obviously the new one it's gonna seem yeah whereas Android phones like every
00:37:42
single year have a completely new design yeah and you're like yeah it's just all over the map I don't know what's coming next okay so 2027 so now the pro iPhone
00:37:50
well real quick I just this does just say pill we do think that definitely
00:37:55
means Dynamic Island right yes yeah yes so for the roadmap for the pro iPhone we
00:38:01
have 2023 p Hill and ltpo 2024 Dynamic Island again and ltpo
00:38:08
2025 under panel face ID plus hole punch camera 2026 under panel face ID plus hole punch
00:38:15
camera 2027 under panel face ID under panel camera so there's going to be a
00:38:22
couple years where we have the dynamic Island on both but the the frame rate is
00:38:30
the only difference between the two then we have actually let's just I'm gonna go here right here 2023 and 2024 will both
00:38:36
have pilch pill cut out Dynamic Island for both yes but there'll be a frame rate is frame rate so faster Dynamic
00:38:44
Island maybe a little bit of a high resolution possibly but that's the only difference then when
00:38:51
you get to 2025 you get the under panel face ID and 2026 you get the under panel
00:38:57
face ID so for those two years it'll just be a hole punch cut out in the Pro iPhone and the regular iPhone will get
00:39:05
ltpo yeah and potential most likely High refresh rate so finally graduate to ldpl
00:39:11
on the non-pro iPhone you have this new aesthetic that's when the pro goes to 360 Hertz it just has to look different
00:39:18
so the dynamic Island will look a little different because you only have just the the hole punch cut out for the camera yeah it also is kind of funny that we're
00:39:24
like getting this I know it's not exactly the same but we're getting something under the screen but it's also
00:39:30
still leaving a hole in the screen I guess I'm guessing it's just because the face ID stuff doesn't need to be as
00:39:37
clear quality when it's just IR blasters or whatever that are doing that which is
00:39:42
kind of cool but then also the amount that Apple needs to create and like
00:39:50
to like improve on to then just get to the point that the s10e had yeah in a
00:39:55
hole punch like cut out like five years ago that's gonna be the meme in the
00:40:01
Android Community which is like oh wow the iPhone finally has a hole punch camera like we had in 2017 like yeah
00:40:07
we've been on this this aesthetic train for a while you know no screw that in the comments everyone says David and I
00:40:13
are too harsh on iPhone I can that hole is going to be beautiful it's gonna be the best looking hole in a
00:40:19
phone ever do you agree with me uh do it for the comments do it we like apple
00:40:25
sure isn't there also rumors of like the iPhone 15 having like the thinnest bezels yeah it's supposed to have
00:40:32
thinner bezels which is cool nice neat you know that's sick why don't we use screen to body ratio anymore because
00:40:38
they're all within three percent of each other yeah I guess other than that other than the current non-pro iPhone big
00:40:44
Notch which yeah they're all like 94 or whatever yesterday someone commented on an extremely old tweet that I made from
00:40:50
like 2018 classic and it was when I'm I made like a bunch of videos on that was
00:40:56
when the Oppo Find X first came out the first one and that was that one one-ish year where we had the pop-up cameras and
00:41:05
I watched the beginning of my video from like 2018 we have to acknowledge the elephant in
00:41:11
the room this thing has an 87.9 screen divided and I was like now I'm just like
00:41:17
oh man that's pretty bad yeah I mean if by the time you guys see this video the Rog phone review is out uh not the
00:41:25
highest screen to body ratio but that actually turns out to be fine because it's aimed at people who are going to hold it in landscape and they put their
00:41:31
thumbs right on the sides and they need bezel for that yeah and that's like a thing it's like oh we offer you some bezel because you like that uh and
00:41:38
there's front-facing speakers and everything on the side so yeah it is what it is but yeah you know roadmap conveniently finally graduates the
00:41:44
non-pro iPhone to high refresh rate and at the same exact time we have a new feature for the pro iPhones which is
00:41:50
all the face ID stuff is under the glass and just a whole punch cut out cool and by 2027 they're planning on anyway
00:41:57
having under display camera for the iPhone which seems like for pro it seems
00:42:03
like that's enough time between now and four years from now to have a good enough selfie camera to put under the
00:42:09
glass I think they've been pretty dang hazy up until now I like calling them the underwater camera yeah that's what
00:42:16
it looks more like they look really bad if you've seen the videos we've done on uh I guess it was a Vivo phone that
00:42:22
first did it I think it was I think it was a TCL or something and then a second gen phone finally came out and Motorola
00:42:28
might have done it there's a there's like also in the Samsung fold isn't it it's exactly right oh yeah second
00:42:33
generation of it paying that much money you've heard that yeah that's crazy it's
00:42:38
you take a selfie and it looks like you uh took it through like you like rubbed grease on your yeah camera or something
00:42:45
Vaseline or like water got in the camera system yeah it looks it looks pretty bad yeah I mean this is definitely one of
00:42:50
those things for Apple's gonna just be like let's let everybody else make this look terrible and then we'll wait five
00:42:56
years and then when the technology is actually ready that is like easy for them the iPhone roadmap we all knew and
00:43:03
in that sense too 2027 when you get the under under panel camera that's when the non-pro gets the under panel face ID and
00:43:10
hole yeah so yeah it's literally finally graduate the non-pro iPhone and we just have a new thing perfectly ready yeah
00:43:17
you can see that they plan the stuff ahead all that matters is we'll have USBC
00:43:28
well they don't have to do it till the end of 2025 I think right because they
00:43:33
could definitely graduate just the pro to USB they could do that this year and they could say it's for data transfer speeds for those who actually shoot
00:43:39
prores can you shoot prores on a non-pro iPhone no so they could say we added you anything with Pro in it is only on the
00:43:46
pro iPhone so promotion yeah are you sure I'm pretty sure I can shoot programs
00:43:52
do you think we're seeing this like graduating thing because was it the
00:43:57
iPhone was it the 11 or 12 where the pro and the regular had like almost nothing
00:44:02
different about them it was only the pro Max that had like the yeah that was the
00:44:08
12. I think it was the 12 and like sorry sorry no I can yeah I can only do
00:44:13
h.264. yeah yeah like that that year just seemed to be one of like why get the pro model here at all and so this
00:44:20
kind of maybe slightly feels like like oh yeah we made them way too close yeah we need like it's just too much of a
00:44:27
coincidence that every time the pro steps up the the non-probe gets the
00:44:32
thing so do we think the ultra is just never gonna happen iPhone Ultra yeah oh no they're not doing that yeah they're
00:44:37
gonna keep going like pro and pro Max and pro Max is just like we have more room so you get a bigger screen a bigger
00:44:43
battery and that's it yeah I think that you know if you're gonna offer yes they want to stratified stratify the lineup
00:44:49
like give people a reason to step up this price ladder yeah of like dang I'm paying 700 bucks for a phone that only
00:44:55
has 60 hertz if anyone cares about that they're immediately going to go all right let's get the 120 hertz one and now you're
00:45:01
paying a thousand and you're like wow I might as well get the one with the the bigger screen the bigger battery 11.99
00:45:06
they just keep going they're just trying to work you up the ladder they yeah they have strategy just give me an iPhone
00:45:12
iPhone 16 Ultra with an M4 chip that's all I want I'm just waiting for the
00:45:18
pixel Ultra this is the year oh my God don't hurt me again don't hurt
00:45:24
me again I'm actually excited for this tablet the pixel tablet dude the tablet is the best thing that has ever happened
00:45:29
to society you know you know those you know those memes that are like Society if it's when it's Society one pixel one
00:45:38
pixel tablet comes out and you're gonna get we never just we still don't know if it's going to come with the dock or not
00:45:44
remember that's what our confusion I think it will we think this is another bet we have I hope it does because then
00:45:51
it it'll feel like that's the focus of it which I think is what I want the tablet is like the secondary aspect of
00:45:57
them was there news recently that they phased out they stopped supporting they stopped
00:46:04
supporting non-google smart displays this week like all those with like
00:46:09
yeah they they stopped the support of that's a good point so maybe they're getting rid of the
00:46:16
smart display like API thing all together and just doing like tablet
00:46:21
stuff oh like a tablet yeah because Android 1314 is supposed to be flexible to multiple display types no matter what
00:46:27
the display type so maybe they're just getting rid of like the smart display UI and just having an overlay I do not just
00:46:32
because it's Android I don't like my Nest Hub like UI and there's so many more times I wish I could like more
00:46:39
easily use my finger rather than
00:46:48
you can't just say hey Google on the podcast Andrew I know it's like or
00:46:53
I don't know what any of the other ones are dear listeners Echo no
00:47:00
turn on the waveform podcast like you're cursing at it it's a rate waveform Five Stars hey Astro thank you Ash is just
00:47:09
flushed through the door oh yeah I can say hey Astro because nobody listening
00:47:14
as Master at least I hope you don't if you do hey Astro drive off a cliff tell us if it
00:47:19
uh wow it did it yeah that's pretty much it not one of you said Bixby during that
00:47:24
whole thing yeah nobody else does Bixby still exist it sure does I can hold them I have Bixby on this actually I disabled
00:47:30
it but you can watch it yeah can you re-map the new button yet no you can just disable it yeah no I hold down the
00:47:36
power button and it still goes Bixby you know how Samsung and Google are like BFFs like to a weird degree to like
00:47:42
those BFFs that you think might actually secretly be dating I think that's Google and Samsung because they I because of
00:47:49
that my point is that I don't really know how Samsung hasn't just like relinquished control to Google Assistant yet it's kind of like how uh
00:47:57
rivian won't put car play in their vehicles because they need to control
00:48:02
that space to be able to connect their ecosystem together what an ecosystem does Samsung have I'm gonna have the
00:48:09
watch and the smart things and they have the watch and the buds and stuff things where like if they relinquish that to
00:48:16
Google they don't get to shove more Samsung it's a good plan into your life and they have a lot of smart yeah and
00:48:22
they have a lot of smart things stuff and SmartThings is like one of the most well like well established smart home
00:48:27
like how else am I going to tell my phone to like turn the dryer off or in the refrigerator I mean that's a lot of
00:48:33
smarts but also a lot of data I would say you just don't I mean and then we live in a better
00:48:38
Society Fair Society is smart things Tesla box will do all of that well I need Bixby oh man
00:48:46
no that's our next April fools Bixby bot like we should make noise no that's our
00:48:52
next time April Fool's Bixby it just walks into walls constantly you know that's Halloween dude I like the idea of
00:48:59
Bixby about being yoked like six foot six foot five 290 like
00:49:06
yeah Tesla bot can only deadlift 140. Bixby Bots here 225 Tesla bot has like
00:49:12
safety in mind so it cannot like carry your kids away and like run away from you but big speed batch like sometimes
00:49:18
can just does stuff yikes wow yeah that might be a that
00:49:24
might be a Halloween costume why was that the first example you thought of just carry your kids
00:49:29
what are they saying on stage they were like Tesla bot can only exert this much force so that it cannot like
00:49:36
run it cannot run it can't chase people because it's slow and it can't like hurt people because it's weak and it can only
00:49:43
Lift Us it can't like drop something heavy on you meanwhile they're trying to make cyber truck out on the roads it's
00:49:49
gonna say maybe we shouldn't make this robot if you have to it literally was I think Elon literally said it on stage it
00:49:55
was like don't worry it can't you can run away from it like kind of in a weird
00:50:00
way which is like oh we we thought about this because if it was too powerful because you know someone's gonna jailbreak a Tesla bot and it's gonna be
00:50:05
able to run like 30 miles an hour that's gonna be insane if the Cyber truck spell isn't out that thing is never coming out
00:50:10
that's gonna be well Fair Point yeah ltp ltpo iPhone or Tesla bot which comes out first ltpf
00:50:18
iPhone yes I hope so I hope no I was just gonna say yes in general to your
00:50:23
question the new Mac Pro air power wow I think it's time for trivia
00:50:32
Yas Queen trivia dude thank you we just haven't we should just have an episode
00:50:38
where we just go all of the vaporware announcements that have happened in the last few years yeah and there's a lot of
00:50:43
them there's like 12 cars like Tesla Roadster is the like headlining one and then we go down the
00:50:49
list we could do a vaporware bracket oh and what is it ranked on like how
00:50:55
much we wanted it to be real how or which we think will come out first or if it's like Tesla road service
00:51:01
air power like we know some of them are never coming out this Volkswagen count
00:51:09
when they every time I get like a concept Mini Cooper with an AI dog in it we have to be like all right how bad do we really want this a lot to
00:51:16
be fair fair power versus Roadster we've seen things closer to air power than
00:51:21
we've seen yeah we have any new updates we've seen things closer to Roadster also well we saw the Roadster but that
00:51:29
was seven years ago we saw we've seen a bunch of sports cars that do the same okay other ones yes but they cost a
00:51:35
million dollars so so the Roadster were seven years ago the Roadster is 2017. oh my God
00:51:43
yeah it's tough that's tough anyway sorry I interrupted trivia here
00:51:48
we go a quick update on the score Marquez has 11. Andrew has eight and
00:51:54
David has 12. yeah okay trivia first question so what is the correct keyboard
00:52:00
shortcut to launch the snippet tool on on windows currently
00:52:07
yeah not the not the new Prince green one there's a shot in the dark total guess
00:52:13
I don't use the keyboard shortcuts as much on Windows I'm sorry Windows fans command shift Escape is uh come out I
00:52:21
realized I could have just tested it on my I could have been testing all the shortcuts it was for Snipping Tool yeah
00:52:28
snipping tools specifically and I'm gonna accept a bunch of
00:52:33
different answers because there's a bunch but we're still all gonna get it wrong all right flip them and read
00:52:39
[Laughter] you just gave up I like that you drew
00:52:44
the Windows key so what is this I I put Windows s
00:52:50
close I put control Windows S I knew it it's option it's option Windows Marquez
00:52:57
I put alt f4 is it it's option I don't think there is
00:53:03
enough there's Windows logo key shift S Windows shift S I actually thought about
00:53:09
that or Windows logo key print screen I thought about that in my brain dude I
00:53:14
was originally just gonna do control shift Windows logo print screen I believe so of course on some devices huh
00:53:21
yeah there's like literally nine others but I guess involved is it going to be directly into the
00:53:28
Snipping Tool or like the Snipping program comes I don't know the new nothing ear to buds have an IP
00:53:36
rating of ip54 the 4 in ip54 describes
00:53:42
the Bud's ability to withstand what this is this is
00:53:47
I think I need to switch my answer I think I need to stop this is like a trick question if we somehow I'll say
00:53:54
the same and all get it wrong that will be insanely impressive I'm switching it and I'm really not sure anymore yeah
00:54:02
because uh you're switching it can we do pencils down and then talk it through before we show
00:54:09
it's up to the trivia Masters I might talk myself out of my correct answer but you can't change it the pencil is bad
00:54:14
wait we're not changing pencils pencils down I've written what I think it is okay so markers ip68 versus IP67
00:54:22
whenever I see those two things I always go oh Ingress Protection One of these is
00:54:27
for water one of these is for dust yeah when you go from 67 to 68 it's more water it's more water resistant yeah so
00:54:33
I put that the ip54 that the 4 is water that's what I'm thinking the yeah that's
00:54:40
what I put as well for the same reasons I think yeah well so then I got confused though because then there are like ipx
00:54:47
which means it doesn't have dust particularly like I guess in my mind I was like what doesn't have dust
00:54:52
production but it has water well I'm wrong I put dust like an idiot oh you might be right uh it might be but like I
00:54:58
guess what screwed me up is like what has water resistance but it's not dust resistant so well you really got that
00:55:05
out yeah I I wrote down the whole thing you so water Marcus water yes
00:55:12
thank God I also wrote water oh that was way worse than I thought
00:55:17
sorry um stop getting so yoked all the time so uh
00:55:23
just out of curiosity um also just to be clear I drew a water droplet falling yeah yeah thanks nice it's very nice I
00:55:30
just wanted well it's actually not falling it's being sprayed at it do we want to do a so I think that's wrong I
00:55:36
would love to because I can't because bonus question all right so in honor of
00:55:42
Android 14 developer beta it's a developer beta rates yeah okay in honor
00:55:47
developer preview in honor of the Android 14 developer preview it's
00:55:52
available on a bunch of devices what's the oldest pixel that you can download the beta on [Music]
00:56:03
the oldest pixel dang dang
00:56:08
I think I know this this is a guess guess boy
00:56:14
guess Queen guest Man starring Jim Carrey
00:56:20
thanks David oh yeah brother you just got that in yeah I might have changed it
00:56:27
from the right answer to the wrong answer though battle flip them ah I changed oh I guess okay hold on we don't
00:56:34
know wait I changed it I said pixel 4.
00:56:44
the correct answer is the pixel 4A 5G oh what 4A 5G wait 485g is newer than the
00:56:54
four it's the same age as the five right yeah it is it came out at the same time as the five it did literally the same
00:57:01
day oh yeah wow does that mean pixel five yeah pixel
00:57:07
4A yeah wow that's not that old that's not that old I expected more out of you Google hmm we didn't get this wrong you
00:57:14
got this wrong Google that's exactly right we all got not cool you should have been older yeah Hiroshi yeah
00:57:21
foreign that probably wraps it up we've talked our faces off about Dynamic islands and
00:57:28
pill cutouts and I'm sorry audio listeners um but of course we'll have your
00:57:33
regularly scheduled programming back with much more audio and visual content and soon Spike the dog will be speaking
00:57:39
all of our voices out if during the podcast commute if 90 of us car buyers you know won't buy a car without uh
00:57:46
carplay on it what percent would you buy a car without an AI dog 100 100 you
00:57:53
can't afford not to buy a car with anything that's actually part of my new rivian R2 platform we used to have an AI
00:57:59
dog if it doesn't work sorry RJ
00:58:05
