00:00:35
record, otr cuz you nasty. If you're nasty. Cuz you nasty. You so nasty. Or if you're nasty. We're recording this
00:00:44
the day after I went to Pete Rose night at the Cincinnati Reds baseball game. So
00:00:51
they they did a sadly Pete Rose passed away at the end of last year and they did a night to just a a fullblown
00:01:01
awesome tribute night to Pete Rose. Everybody was wearing Pete Rose jerseys. There was one thing that was really cool
00:01:09
on the Jumbotron, they kept showing like old TV commercials that he did for like
00:01:14
Wedies and Aqua Velva and a few different different uh brands and that was really cool. Plus, there were some
00:01:21
of my well probably are, you know, childhood heroes and some from the baseball diamond. Anyway, Barry Larkin
00:01:28
was there, Eric Davis was there, Ken Griffy Senior was there. So, that was and they were talking on mic to to the
00:01:36
crowd about Pete Rose and experiences they had whether playing with him or playing for him because he was a manager
00:01:43
and he was he was and remains the hit king, right? He he is the all-time hits leader for Major League Baseball. I
00:01:53
believe that number is the record is 4,000. So when he broke the record, I I think he broke the record, it was
00:02:01
4,126 hits. Now people, they do play 163 games, I believe, a year. Yeah, 163 games in a regular season. So, some
00:02:13
people may say, "Well, 4,000 hits does not sound like a lot when you play that many games." And we do know that
00:02:21
baseball is not as strenuous or as dangerous as some of the other sports. So, a lot of times those guys can have
00:02:28
lengthy careers, but to put it into perspective, he did that in 1985. So, he still holds that record
00:02:40
still to this day. So, it's it I liken it to remember Kareem Abdul Jabbar had the points he was the points leader,
00:02:47
all-time points leader until LeBron James broke it what, three years ago, I think. Uh, he broke it last
00:02:54
year. Yeah. And so, I mean, think of think of all the guys that have come and gone in that sport and have not been
00:03:00
able to beat the the points leader for all those years. Michael Jordan didn't do it. Carl Malone didn't do it. Well,
00:03:06
you got to have the longevity. Yeah. And so, and do you know how many three-pointers that made in his career?
00:03:13
I do not. I don't think he he didn't shoot very many of them. I know that. I think he only made one. Oh, but you
00:03:20
couldn't Nobody could block the sky hook. Nobody could block the skyhook. So, when all was said and done for the
00:03:27
lifetime of his career, he batted 303. He had a batting average of 303, which is incredible career batting average.
00:03:36
finished with 4,256 hits. Famously born April 14th. The tribute night was May 14th because
00:03:45
they didn't have any base uh well, they didn't have a home game April 14th uh here in Cincinnati. So, they did it in
00:03:51
May 14th and the number 14 will forever be Pete Rose's number in my mind. Now, did you see that they just
00:04:01
yesterday removed him? So, people outside of Ohio probably won't know of these conversations unless you're like a
00:04:08
baseball dieard. But in the state of Ohio, if you bring up his name, people have always said, and these I imagine
00:04:16
these are people that want him to be in the Hall of Fame. Pete Rose is not allowed in the Hall of Fame due because
00:04:22
he was caught betting on baseball. And his defense always was that he only, hey, I only bet for my team to win. And
00:04:32
of course, I'm out there playing and coaching to win. So, what what is wrong with that? Now, I will say this. I push
00:04:40
back a little bit when people say, "Well, you know, he only bet on the Reds to win." And I always push back and go,
00:04:46
"Well, it gets a little dicey to sort that out, right?" It gets a little We don't know that for certain. We We can't
00:04:52
Yeah, we weren't there when he placed every bet. Now, I I because I like Pete Rose, uh I would like to see him in the
00:04:58
Hall of Fame,
