[Applause] [Music] [Applause] hello kristin thank you for taking some time to chat with me today
00:00:24
i have heard through the grapevine and many good things about murder she told your podcast telling
00:00:31
true crime stories and the listeners have told me that you did a fantastic episode on
00:00:37
danielle bertolini who has been requested by several of our listeners that we cover her case
00:00:46
and so i'm so glad that uh kristen you were able to sit down and chat with me today to teach
00:00:51
me and inform me and the rest of us about this missing person's case yeah thank you so much for having me
00:00:58
i'm very excited to be here and i'm also happy to hear that people are requesting
00:01:03
her story um this is probably the most personal story that i've covered and i've become invested in
00:01:10
since starting murder she told so i'm a big advocate for it and i'm happy to talk with somebody else who is as
00:01:16
well in march you did some episodes titled murder mountain and it looks like murder
00:01:24
mountain your story has been centered around a couple of things one the missing person's case of danielle
00:01:32
bertolini but also the and also the humble five did i get that right yeah so danielle
00:01:40
is one of the humble missing five that's what they were initially called um it's five women i honestly i didn't
00:01:48
really dig too deep into their cases on my episode because it was mostly just focused on danielle but um
00:01:56
it was originally called the humboldt missing five and then danielle bertolini and sheila
00:02:03
franks's remains were found so now it's mostly known as the humboldt county five
00:02:09
okay so tell us you have a direct direct connection to danielle is that correct yes so tell me a little
00:02:20
bit about that so danielle bertolini was a childhood friend of mine she grew up in central maine and
00:02:29
i remember her as just really spunky and friendly and a little bit of a troublemaker but
00:02:36
in the best way and i know that her mother would agree with me on that and i remember when she first went
00:02:44
missing i'm still facebook friends with her facebook profile and with her mother and i
00:02:51
started following this case but i felt like there wasn't much that i could do like i was in
00:02:56
school at the time and then when i started murder she told this was a case that has kind of like
00:03:03
sat in my heart for a while and i knew that i wanted to give it the platform to be told in the way it should be told
00:03:11
which is through her mother and without any polishing um but yeah so she was a childhood friend
00:03:19
and she grew up in central maine and this is a story that you don't really hear about
00:03:25
especially around here so so she moved out to california and how long is she in california before
00:03:32
we find out that now we have a missing person's case so she moved out to california
00:03:40
in 2010 so she was there for a couple of years and i actually didn't know this because
00:03:47
you know the media only skims the surface i didn't know that danielle had went through something traumatic
00:03:55
to get her out to california in the first place billy joe talks about this in detail and
00:04:03
you know a trigger warning for anyone listening that has ever lost a child in 2010 danielle found that she
00:04:10
was pregnant and she was about six and a half months along when they did the first ultrasound
00:04:16
and it was a boy and she wanted to name him xavier david but the outlook on it wasn't good xavier
00:04:23
had edward syndrome which is a rare condition and it causes developmental delays
00:04:29
and it gives him an extra 18th chromosome i think i got that right and billy joe also told me that he had
00:04:37
a tumor on his brain and his kidney so the outlook was not great danielle was 20 years old and
00:04:47
the doctor basically said that the baby wasn't going to make it to full term and he advised her to have a late term
00:04:54
abortion but she didn't want to have that she wanted to try and see if she could
00:04:59
make this work
