Trish Haynes /// Part 1 /// 507

November 16, 2023 / 50:14

This episode covers the case of Trish Haynes, a missing person from Grafton, New Hampshire, last seen in May 2018. The discussion includes her troubled past, relationships, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Key figures include Trish's family members, her abusive ex-boyfriend Chris Hughes, and Ashley Smith, the friend she stayed with before going missing.

Trish Haynes was reported missing after her family lost contact with her in May 2018. They became concerned when her Social Security benefits were cut off, and her living situation with Ashley and Doug Smith raised red flags. Witnesses reported seeing Trish in a distressed state, indicating possible abuse.

Authorities conducted searches at properties connected to the Smiths, leading to the discovery of Trish's remains in a washing machine in September 2018. The autopsy confirmed her death was a homicide, with the estimated date of death around May 18, 2018.

The episode highlights the family's struggle for answers and the lack of action from law enforcement during the investigation. The podcast emphasizes the emotional toll on Trish's family as they navigated the complexities of her case.

Despite the evidence, no arrests have been made, leaving Trish's murder unsolved and her family seeking justice.

TLDR

Trish Haynes went missing in May 2018; her remains were found later, confirming homicide, but no arrests have been made.

let's talk some true crime no no no no [Music] no no no go [Music] okay on Tuesday August 28th 2018 the
00:03:55
Grafton New Hampshire attorney general issued a press release announcing the division of public protection the New
00:04:01
Hampshire State Police and the Woodstock New Hampshire police were looking for a
00:04:06
missing person 26-year-old Trish Haynes was missing from the Grafton Danbury area the release was not specific about
00:04:16
where or when Trish was last seen it said only that she had been seen in the general area in late June or early July
00:04:24
senior Assistant Attorney General Jeff stren said quote I can tell you that a family member reported her missing she
00:04:32
hasn't been seen or heard from in some time that's causing some concern that's why law enforcement is involved in fact
00:04:41
Trisha's family had not heard from her since May 16th 2018 they became very alarmed when her
00:04:48
social security benefits checks were cut off and yet Trish remained missing they
00:04:53
knew that she relied on these payments for her living expenses and the people she was living with
00:05:00
they were very evasive when the family questioned where Trish was finally in early June her family reported her
00:05:07
missing to the Woodstock Police it would be months before they would know Trisha's fate and now 3 years later
00:05:14
they're still waiting for justice for Trish this is true crime garage and this is a case of Trish
00:05:26
haes no no no [Music] Trish Danielle Haynes was born in Stewart Florida on July 22nd
00:05:42
1992 she was the daughter of Toby Dale Duren and Megan Beth Haynes Megan and Toby were teen parents and look it's not
00:05:52
easy to raise a child and at their young ages and really where they were both at
00:05:56
in their lives they decided that the best home that they could provide and best living situation that they could provide
00:06:03
for Trish would be to be raised by her maternal grandparents Steven and Sandra tuky the family lived in Florida and
00:06:11
moved to North Carolina for a short time and then moved to New Hampshire for a few years from when Trish was about 11
00:06:19
years old until early in Trish's high school years then they returned to the southern part of the country Trish loved
00:06:27
fashion and dressing up she took pride in the outfits that she put together her favorite color was purple and she loved
00:06:34
anything leopard print she listened to hip-hop music and loved pizza and Red Bull she was also an animal lover and
00:06:41
was very close with her family according to them Trish was a very loyal friend sometimes to her own detriment Trish was
00:06:49
known by her friends and family as loving caring and trusting Trisha's Aunt Valerie Haynes Alvarez who has become an
00:06:58
outspoken advocate for Patricia's case and whom my friend and helper just spoke with at length in regards to this case
00:07:06
Valerie was also very close with Trish and was even present when she was born she described Trish to a reporter as
00:07:13
quote a sweet girl who was a little misguided she was always looking for love in the wrong places and finding it
00:07:21
Valerie said and according to Valerie Trish found herself in one bad relationship after another unfortunately
00:07:28
Trish suffered two very serious concussions when she was a kid from two separate
00:07:35
incidents one of which involved her getting hit in the head with a baseball bat in a completely separate situation
00:07:42
Trish was also diagnosed with PTSD this came to be possibly from her being assaulted by a male friend of her
00:07:50
mother's as a result she received disability checks and relied on these checks for her living expenses so being
00:07:58
raised by her her grandparents Trish was very very close with her grandmother Sandy
00:08:04
Tukes there are many pictures of the two of them online smiling and hugging each
00:08:09
other but Trish left her grandparents home in Florida in 2016 this at the age of 22 to move to
00:08:17
New Hampshire to live with her boyfriend Chris Hughes in North Woodstock the two
00:08:23
of them met while they were both living in Florida but now in our timeline Captain the two are living in New
00:08:28
Hampshire they both had jobs at a popular restaurant called The Landmark and the owners being the nice people
00:08:36
that they are allowed the two of them to live in an apartment in the restaurant building but Trish knew very few people
00:08:43
in that area so she did not have a large support network and the relationship well it went South rather quickly Chris
00:08:52
had served some time in prison and according to the family Trish told them Chris was abusive and the relationship
00:08:59
ship was volatile and at times even violent there are several stories of varying types of abuse from this
00:09:05
relationship one where Chris pulled a knife on her and once when Chris falsely thought that Trish had cheated on him he
00:09:13
made her shave her head the restaurant owners Andre and Irene Childs who love Trish told her to get away from Chris
00:09:22
but she didn't Trish ended up being arrested for domestic violence this is a charge that she pled guilty to and also
00:09:31
obtained a restraining order against Chris when she tried to press charges against him for domestic violence he
00:09:38
convinced her that that would mean that he would have to go back to prison so she recanted her report and then was
00:09:45
charged with filing a false police report this whole thing really is just a big mess but then in October
00:09:54
2017 Trish moved back to Florida but she could not Escape prosecution on the false reporting charges and on December
00:10:02
16th 2017 she flew from Florida back to New Hampshire to deal with her legal proceedings she stayed with a friend
00:10:11
named Becky in North Woodstock for two weeks but Becky lived on a remote farm with no cell service and since Trish was
00:10:19
always on her phone like most young people and had nothing to do this was not going to work for her yeah but
00:10:27
better than being in a sit situation where you're forced to shave your head that is correct so in the beginning of
00:10:34
January she asked Becky her friend to drop her off in Canan and was picked up by two people this would be Ashley Smith
00:10:42
and her husband Douglas Smith junor they lived in Grafton New Hampshire Trish and
00:10:49
Ashley were classmates during the years when Trish lived in New Hampshire in her
00:10:54
early years according to Trisha's family back in grade school Ashley was was the
00:10:59
mean girl who kind of bullied Trish and Trish's family did not approve of Ashley
00:11:04
or her family but the two ended up connecting on Facebook now that Trish was back in New Hampshire and Trish well
00:11:13
as we said Captain she needed somewhere to stay and she was only looking to be there temporarily because she has to go
00:11:20
to these Court proceedings and get this part of her life over with and move on so like you were saying it seems like
00:11:27
Trish was only planning to stay with them for a short period but her trial date ends up getting pushed back that's
00:11:35
correct captain and this situation where she's going to be moving into and again
00:11:40
just staying for a short time the home the Smith's home is located at 225 Main Street and the general plan was that she
00:11:49
was going to live there for about two weeks or so and that would make sense because she's moving in with friend with
00:11:55
her friend Ashley who was there with her husband and their five children so we're
00:12:01
already at seven people in this house Trish is going to make eight but that two weeks turned out to be longer than
00:12:09
that as you said this is in part because that court date got pushed from January
00:12:14
to April so she would have to wait it out at Ashley and Doug's place from this point on Trisha's family said that
00:12:21
communication with her was spotty and unpredictable she told them that in early February her cell phone was lost
00:12:29
or was broken so they could only reach her via Ashley's phone this was very strange at least the family thought
00:12:38
conversations were few and far between and always relied on Ashley's cooperation they're going to have to go
00:12:45
through Ashley's phone to talk to Trish she always seemed to be nearby Ashley did whenever they got Trish on the phone
00:12:54
the excuse was that they had no cell service at the Smith's home and they had to be in town to get actual reception
00:13:01
right and Trish was not very communicative during these conversations often cutting them short and waffling
00:13:08
about what she was up to well and we know that she has a tendency to be able to be manipulated so you wonder if she's
00:13:16
being manipulated by Ashley exactly or held down in some form or being abused her correct and because she had no phone
00:13:27
Trish stopped posting on social media as well this would be something that she would normally do very frequently so
00:13:33
this made it even more difficult for her family to keep regular communication with Trish and not really to be able to
00:13:41
keep easy tabs on her at all again also in a lot of abusive situations it's divide and conquer divide the individual
00:13:50
from friends and family time past the family assumed that Trish had gone to her court date in April and then served
00:13:59
the 7-Day sentence her lawyer had prepared her for but then Trisha's grandmother thought she would have heard
00:14:06
from her you know after this 7-Day sentence as Trish was supposed to return to Florida after this is all over with
00:14:14
but she didn't hear from Trish and she couldn't get a hold of Trish she couldn't get her on the phone even when
00:14:20
she had a heart attack and was hospitalized at the end of April still couldn't get any communication with
00:14:27
Trish wa who had the heart attack Trisha's grandmother who she was extremely close with and who raised her
00:14:34
so finally her grandmother Sandy did managed to get a hold of Trish this again via Ashley's phone but this was
00:14:42
only for a very brief conversation from what I've been told Captain the last time anyone in Trisha's family spoke
00:14:49
with her was May 16th 2018 so all right everyone make a mental note here May 16th
00:15:00
2018 over the next month and a half so roughly over the next 6 weeks or so Trish's mother and grandmother tried
00:15:09
repeatedly to get Trish on Ashley's phone but they were told that she wasn't around or that Trish was too busy to
00:15:16
take their call Ashley and her mother Wendy Place consistently told Trish's grandmother that Trish had left and
00:15:26
moved out and was living in Vermont with a new boyfriend that nobody had ever heard of but Trish was safe and she no
00:15:34
longer wanted to have any contact with her family I know you mentioned this before but she's receiving checks for
00:15:41
her disability what were the amount of those checks I do not know the amount of these checks but I know that it would
00:15:49
have been enough for her to basically think about it as like a monthly stien to to live in to eat and to survive you
00:16:00
know so it would have been enough for her to rent a place to stay and enough to to get her by for month to month and
00:16:07
I'm guessing these checks are going to Ashley's house where Trish was staying that is my understanding so
00:16:16
Ashley is telling Trish's family that Trish had a new boyfriend that she lives with him now and that Trish really no
00:16:24
longer wants to speak with her family doesn't want to speak with them moved out of state to Vermont M and then
00:16:31
Ashley takes it a step further and says hey Trish even said that she hates yall so this is very unusual and her family
00:16:39
frankly didn't really buy it but since there was no way to reach or get a hold of Trish they kind of just had to roll
00:16:48
with it right the other weird thing here is that Trish's family they didn't know
00:16:53
Ashley's married name or the address where Ashley and her husband lived so they had very little information about
00:17:01
these people at all yeah so trying to track down Trish her family got in touch with Chris they're actually reaching out
00:17:09
to the exboyfriend the abusive ex-boyfriend thinking maybe Trish got back with Chris
00:17:16
and she was just too embarrassed to tell her family yeah I wonder how that conversation went ring ring ring he [ __ ]
00:17:22
bag is our daughter there well look he might Chris might have like a grinch sized heart the small heart but he has
00:17:31
some heart because he at least says he's up front with them and says I've not heard from her and now I'm hearing from
00:17:37
you guys that you can't locate her now I'm concerned as well how can I help right so in fact he even posted on
00:17:45
Trisha's Facebook page on her wall at one point where are you you know so now everybody's looking for Trish well maybe
00:17:54
not Ashley and Doug I at least give him credit for doing that that in late May Valerie again this is Trisha's aunt
00:18:03
called the Plymouth district court and this is very concerning this is when the family goes okay major red flags
00:18:13
here Valerie discovered that Trish never showed up for her court date in April again that's the whole purpose of her
00:18:20
being in the state of New Hampshire to begin with this of course is very bad news her family was now left wondering
00:18:28
if Trish was possibly on the run from the law so Trish's grandmother finally got
00:18:34
Ashley on the phone and told her that look if Trish didn't call them and tell them in her own voice that she was okay
00:18:43
and was deliberately cutting herself off from the family when they well they were
00:18:49
going to file a missing person's Report with the authorities mm with the police Ashley told them not to do that or they
00:18:58
would never see Trish again she refused to answer any more questions texting that she just got out of a psych ward
00:19:06
and couldn't deal with any of this and as everyone can guess Trish never called so following through Trish's family
00:19:17
called Lieutenant Miler of the north Woodstock Police to report Trish missing in the first week of July
00:19:24
2018 Lieutenant Miler was the one dealing with Trish's court case so they were at least familiar with Trish and
00:19:33
the family somewhat authorities had the idea to put a halt to Trisha's Social Security benefits in an attempt to flush
00:19:42
her out remember Trish depended on these disability payments when cutting off her
00:19:48
income failed to make Trish reappear so to speak that is when it became very clear to all that something was very

cheers to you Colonel aka the goat that is the captain there doing his best post
00:22:28
on the vocals mhm kudos to you my friend tall cans in the air that is definitely
00:22:34
not me so let's keep in mind at this point in our timeline Trish is missing and it's her family that discovers that
00:22:43
something weird is going on they bring this to the local authorities because her family is not local well like you
00:22:49
said not only is she missing from her family but this Ashley person that she was staying with is saying she doesn't
00:22:58
want anything to do with you and and we're not going to tell you where she's at we're not going to give you any way
00:23:03
to communicate with her and then she misses this court appearance which would give her a at least a bench warrant and
00:23:12
but then the authorities like you said I think this is a great idea cut off her money because then she has to make
00:23:19
contact with somebody correct she would have no way of really surviving financially unless she was able to latch
00:23:27
on to somebody else or be dependent of someone else at this point so I'm guessing that the family would still be
00:23:34
hopeful at this point the police just now catching this case are going to be looking for this young woman the police
00:23:42
themselves were able to find some witnesses who said that they saw Trish at the 225 Main Street address in
00:23:48
Grafton again this is the home of Ashley and Doug Smith and there are five children but that was in the
00:23:55
spring and no one had seen her since miday one woman who said she met Trish at the house in the spring of 2018 her
00:24:05
name is Faith Partridge she said that Trish was unkempt and unable to make eye contact saying quote she did not talk to
00:24:15
me she always looked at the floor other witnesses that the family has been contacted by since Trisha's case went
00:24:23
public have told them some very disturbing things there was another couple living with Doug and Ashley Smith
00:24:31
at the same time as Trish how many people are living there right it's like 15 people this is Travis and Sarah
00:24:38
couter and their two children it's like The Brady Bunch times two yeah so you would have five adults and seven
00:24:46
children living in this home all at the same time and look I understand that people have to make uncomfortable
00:24:52
arrangements or Arrangements that sometimes in their lives that are not the most ideal but I always thought that
00:24:58
it's just a weird setup when I see multiple adults living with a bunch of kids it I've always just it's always
00:25:07
been kind of weird to me do you mean it's like a little pedo FS no no no I don't mean that at all I mean it's just
00:25:15
look I'm someone that that likes little kids and I can handle being around them for small doses five minutes right so a
00:25:23
person saying yeah I'll I'll rent a room for you from you for 200s a month oh but I have to live with your
00:25:30
five children that always seems either a little desperate or a little weird to me
00:25:35
right according to what the hannes family has been told Trish was basically enslaved by at least the Smiths maybe
00:25:45
all four of these adults taking care of their children cleaning the house and suffering all kinds of abuses like
00:25:54
beatings and strange accusations Doug Smith is rumored to be a major drug dealer and the people he and Ashley were
00:26:03
hanging around were not of the Savory type it seems Trish got caught up in this and because she needed somewhere to
00:26:11
live and also wanted to be loved and needed she became dependent on the Smiths but Ashley was manipulative and
00:26:19
vengeful and would accuse Trish of trying to steal Doug away from her and would tell others that Trish was
00:26:26
sleeping with their men with the two men in the house it seems like Ashley was the one initiating some of the beatings
00:26:34
and the abuses that were dealt to Trish people I mean let's face it nobody wants to sleep
00:26:41
with Doug you know other than Ashley apparently nobody people who saw Ashley didn't even want to sleep with Doug
00:26:49
people who saw Trish at this time well those who were willing to talk anyway say she was clearly being being abused
00:26:58
mistreated and victimized there is talk of her being beaten and emotionally exploited Faith Partridge remember we
00:27:06
mentioned her before she's the woman who saw Trish and said she looked disheveled
00:27:11
so now we have the Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family okay this is a a witness says that her husband was at the
00:27:18
Smith's home buying car parts and he said that he saw Doug Smith backhand Trish after they learned that Trish was
00:27:29
missing what the [ __ ] the partridges went to the authorities and told them hey this is something that we
00:27:36
saw another woman named Cayo F who was involved with Ashley Smith's brother Byron at one point told Trish's family
00:27:46
that she witnessed The Smith's mistreating Trish and she said the Smiths and their extended family were
00:27:52
very very bad people well after Doug backhanded her and then the Partridge family calls the police is there ever a
00:28:01
report yes they filed a report of this but it was after Trish went missing okay another woman named Beverly told the
00:28:08
family that Ashley and Doug abused Trish and they were taking her Social Security
00:28:13
money and that they pimped her out to various men to quote earn her keep these people seem like they need to be set on
00:28:21
fire and then we'll try to put them out with gallons of gasoline well the reason
00:28:27
the attorney general made the announcement on August 28th 2018 that they were looking for Trish the one that
00:28:35
we read in today's trailer well that was because on that same day several law enforcement agencies began conducting
00:28:42
some very public searches for the missing young woman these were not just the outdoor grid searches using
00:28:50
volunteers that we have seen in so many other cases these were targeted search warrant driven official searches of
00:28:58
specific locations where authorities had reason to believe Trish might be here's
00:29:05
an excerpt from a news report it says quote Grafton authorities spent the day on Tuesday searching a residential
00:29:13
property for signs of a 26-year-old woman who has been missing for about 2 months Trish Haynes who is 5 feet 6 Ines
00:29:22
tall and weighs 110 pounds has brown hair and brown eyes New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes
00:29:30
unit officials focused their efforts on a home at 225 Main Street and the land surrounding it the property is owned by
00:29:39
Douglas Carpenter while he is the owner of this parcel which is valued at about $190,000 according to property records
00:29:49
Carpenter's primary residence is listed as South Thompson Maine attempts to reach him were unsuccessful
00:29:57
police deferred comment on whether anyone has been living at the property the house sits on 9.5 acres of land and
00:30:05
has several out buildings okay so this house that police are searching the 225 Main Street is owned by Doug Carpenter
00:30:14
who lives in Maine this was the house where Trish was staying with her so-called friend Ashley Smith and
00:30:21
Ashley's husband Doug and all those kids The Smiths rented the house from this Doug
00:30:29
Carpenter the search of this home went on for several days and we now know that the police also searched two other
00:30:38
properties that same week one was located at 608 wild Meadow Road and one was located at 91 French Hill Road both
00:30:49
in Grafton population of Grafton 1,400 people approximately by the way and all three properties were connected in some
00:30:59
way to Ashley and Doug Smith per WM news Ashley Smith recently stayed in each one of those locations that's why
00:31:11
they're searching all three of those properties and houses so what is the Smith family's
00:31:20
response to all of this trisko is missing they're not looking so great well Ashley Smith told
00:31:28
WM news quote I woke up to a knock on the door Smith said I was all excited about my kids first day of school
00:31:37
getting them ready and a bunch of officers just showed up she spoke with the reporter about Trish whom she called
00:31:44
her best friend and when she last saw her or heard from her quote it's been a while Smith said I'd have to say at
00:31:52
least probably July or so June I'm not good with dates does she like to abuse all of her best friends Ashley told WM
00:32:03
that she couldn't understand why investigators were questioning her adding hopefully Trish will see this and
00:32:09
she'll come out and show the public that she's fine the reporter asked are you worried about her and she said I'm
00:32:16
worried sick about her the reporter asked her are you worried about her and she said I'm worried sick about her do
00:32:23
you find that to be a a weird statement no I think she's just bullshitting I think she's just reacting
00:32:30
and saying what she would expect to hear or see someone say on TV if they were asked the same question yeah now we
00:32:39
don't have really any information here Captain about what the police were looking for of course they're looking
00:32:45
for Trish and probably some of her belongings but no specifics other than what our guesses would be as to what
00:32:53
they were looking for at these three locations now if anything was collected or if anything of Trisha's
00:33:02
belongings were found on either of these premises or all or so on there's just no
00:33:08
public information in that regard now this puts us to September 2018 in our timeline this is when the media reported
00:33:19
that something was found and fact some large items were being removed from Grant's pond off of wild Meadow Road in
00:33:28
Grafton remember we've heard that street name before this is.3 miles 3 miles from the structure at 308
00:33:39
wild Meadow Road at that search location MH so not very far now members of the public said that they saw what looked
00:33:49
like an old stackable washer and dryer being pulled out of that pond now unfortunately inside that washer and
00:34:02
dryer in fact inside the washer body parts were found interestingly enough that Grant's
00:34:10
Pond was searched because of a tip that police received from Sarah couter the woman who was living at the
00:34:19
Smith's house with her husband and two kids right none of this was revealed by law enforcement at that time
00:34:27
nor was it addressed that Trisha's grandmother Sandy was asked to fly to New Hampshire to provide a DNA sample to
00:34:35
help identify the remains that were found in the washing machine so that brings us to an autopsy Captain old F me
00:34:44
Malik time this was conducted by New Hampshire Chief medical examiner Dr jeie Deval using DNA The Remains were
00:34:54
affirmatively identified as trick is Dr Deval was also able to determine that the manner of death was homicide the
00:35:03
autopsy was finalized in 2019 and estimated that Trish had died around May 18th 2018 so died around that date remember
00:35:16
she actually had some contact with her family right around that same time but that's when they lost contact with her
00:35:23
correct it's sad it's not really clear captain to me how they fixed the date of death to that time of May 18th
00:35:35
2018 my guess would be because you're you're werei you're finding some remains and not the body itself it would be
00:35:42
difficult to put a date on it and really a date as specific as that or even around that specific time my mind goes
00:35:52
to perhaps the Sarah cter tip told police either exactly or about when the washer/dryer was removed from the home
00:36:03
and dumped or possibly also last time she saw Trish that could be or it could be the fact that two men camping in the
00:36:12
area later said that they witnessed someone dumping something large in Grant's Pond and maybe they remembered
00:36:20
the date or about the date when that was that they witnessed that it's crazy the
00:36:25
finding of the remains in the autopsy were all kept tightly Under Wraps as far as the New Hampshire authorities would
00:36:33
discuss the case they were still saying Trish was a missing person for a while her obituary was not published until the
00:36:40
second half of 2019 although family was informed by the Attorney General's office in late
00:36:47
2018 that the remains found in the pond were Trish here is what Valerie later posted on the Facebook page that is
00:36:56
dedic at to Trish Haynes this is quote her grandmother and I were sworn to secrecy in September
00:37:05
2018 when they knew Trish was dead but we could not tell anyone else that she was dead not even family members who
00:37:12
continued to ask if we had heard anything and supposedly she was a missing person's case it was not until
00:37:20
July of 2019 that we were forced to force the hand of the AG when went to a TV station to complain about the lack of
00:37:29
action on the case and lo and behold that very evening before my interview was to air the AG's office made a
00:37:37
statement that went public first admitting it was a murder investigation end quote what was happening was
00:37:45
eventually the rest of the family became impatient with the stagnant quote missing person's investigation about
00:37:54
Trish and Valerie and Sandy the aunt and the grandmother were unimpressed with the fact that the murder was kept under
00:38:02
wraps and the investigation seem to really be going nowhere by that point we're talking about months and months
00:38:08
and months since the time that they're told we found the remains of your loved one and we've confirmed that it was a
00:38:15
homicide but we're still going to pretend for the sake of our investigation that she's a missing
00:38:21
person so they pressed the AG's office when they gave an interview to WMUR News that we've spoke about several times
00:38:31
already so what happens here is wmr goes to the AG's office and says hey we've we've received this information from
00:38:40
Trisha's family that gives the Attorney General's office the opportunity to put out that news release stating that we've
00:38:49
been looking for this person we've been looking for Trish Haynes right so their official news release
00:38:57
stated the following this comes from the New Hampshire Department of Justice which says Miss hannes was reported
00:39:04
missing last year she was last seen in the Grafton danburry New Hampshire area in may/june
00:39:12
2018 since then authorities have been investigating the circumstances of her disappearance during the course of the
00:39:19
investigation human remains were discovered in Grafton New Hampshire those remains were identified as the
00:39:25
deceased as Trish Haynes Dr Deval has also determined that Miss Haynes was the victim of a homicide the circumstances
00:39:33
that led to Mrs Haynes death are still being actively investigated so Trish Haynes in 2018 she decides to move in
00:39:41
with the Smith for a couple weeks because she has a trial that she has to appear at that gets pushed back to April
00:39:52
possibly push back again but it seems like around May is when her family loses all
00:40:00
contact with her but before that we have months and months of suspicious activity
00:40:06
mhm where they're trying to get a hold of Trish and they can really only talk to Ashley yes or Trish through Ashley
00:40:15
right and as you said communication was already difficult enough and then it seems to drop off completely around that
00:40:23
court date time period and they speak with her one last time and then later we're told
00:40:30
that the medical examiner believes that the death that the homicide took place in mid to late May of that year which
00:40:41
again would be right around that same time period when the communication dropped off completely right remember we
00:40:48
have Ashley now telling Trisha's family look she moved to Vermont with some other dude uh we don't know really much
00:40:54
about it but she said she doesn't want to talk to you anymore mhm she hates you she hates you yeah so leave us alone
00:41:03
because we don't know where she went 100% we can't help you out here show's over there's nothing to see then on top
00:41:10
of that now we're getting all these people coming forward towards the family and saying look we we witnessed
00:41:19
abuse happening at the Smith's family house yeah while she was still missing before the remains were found we have
00:41:27
some of those Witnesses going to the police because they're like oh wait this we we were concerned about this
00:41:34
situation before but sometimes you let sometimes you try to stay out of people's business a little bit and then
00:41:40
when you hear that this woman has gone missing they did the right thing and they went to police and say hey look
00:41:45
this is something we witnessed well and there's some like you said huge red flags you got Doug Smith AKA Doug
00:41:54
dingleberry is reported to backhander in front of other people MH I mean so so so
00:42:03
now as far as abusers you know it seems to me that Ashley is an abuser and Doug is a abuser
00:42:12
as well and now we have the other couple that was living there coming and and having their own
00:42:22
statements or or at least Cooperative with police mhm yeah it's a very weird and strange situation but I also want to
00:42:31
kind of underline this too a couple of things in fact one from what I've seen what I've
00:42:38
experienced when it comes to the cases that we've covered here in the garage we talk about this situation of Doug
00:42:45
backhanding Trish in front of Outsiders right people that don't live there usually when there's signs of abuse like
00:42:53
that in front of others there's much more going on behind the scenes worse stuff yeah and a lot more of it and so
00:43:03
that's of great concern number one but then Factor this in go back to the family to Trisha's family who are
00:43:11
actively looking for her when she was still missing and then who knows if police think about that for a second two
00:43:19
family members were told that she was actually murdered and we found her remains some of her remains it's my
00:43:26
belief Captain there's a chance they were only told that because one of them had to submit their DNA so they could
00:43:32
test the remains to see if it was in fact Trish right then they swore those two to secrecy I in part wonder if they
00:43:41
didn't need the DNA to identify Trish if they were able to identify her on their
00:43:47
own is there a chance they wouldn't have told the family they were still behaving
00:43:51
as this would be a missing person's case as far as the public was concerned so much so that they told Grandma and the
00:43:57
aunt don't tell anybody else in the family that we found her remains don't tell them that it was a homicide can you
00:44:03
imagine your family members even extended family coming to you and asking you what happened to one of your family
00:44:10
members and you you have to lie to them or say I haven't heard anything for months for month after month after month
00:44:17
you're hurting at all kinds of emotional levels and you're not even able to tell
00:44:23
these people what happened to have them comfort you or to to talk about it together you're you're you're forced to
00:44:31
lie to them yeah well I'm looking at this right now and just you think about the witness that sees Doug backhand her
00:44:42
and he he hesitates he doesn't you have to react quickly because this is what can happen
00:44:51
you have to speak up when you see abuse it if not you're just as bad as the abuser because you're you're giving
00:45:01
you're giving them more opportunity and like you said if this is happening in front of people in the
00:45:09
public imagine the torture that is happening right you know let's let's not sugarcoat it let's not even call it
00:45:16
abuse this is torture well and I want to be fair to to those individuals they did come forward
00:45:24
they did tell the authorities about that and we do not know the specifics the details of that situation that man could
00:45:31
have very likely stepped in and said hey don't do that again Doug yeah don't do that again I mean or he could have
00:45:38
pulled her pulled him off of her we we don't know right right we don't know for sure but if you went to police and they
00:45:44
didn't act on it then it's like you know I'm just saying when you see something say
00:45:52
something mhm well and that's why they were searching those those properties because they are police are immediately
00:45:59
suspicious of the Smiths once they've been able to confirm a couple things one Trish was in fact living there there is
00:46:07
that report that came in once she was publicly announced to be missing of that couple coming forward and saying hey we
00:46:14
witnessed some form of abuse and that's why they were searching not only the Smith's place that they
00:46:20
were staying at the time when Trish went missing but also these other two properties because I think when they
00:46:26
hear and get this legitimate look the person that comes forward has no dog in the fight so you believe them you
00:46:36
believe that they're saying oh I witnessed some abuse right you're going all right well if they were abusing her
00:46:42
or or Doug or just one of them was abusing her they may have done something horrible to this woman this is before
00:46:49
you even know she's dead may have done something horrible to her and they're hiding and concealing the body somewhere
00:46:55
and and so let's search every property that we can tie the Smiths to now after that press release where the police and
00:47:04
the Attorney General finally admit that it was a homicide and that they found Remains The Valley News pressed
00:47:12
Assistant Attorney General Jeff Sten about this case and stzen said there wasn't much he could add publicly he
00:47:22
declined to say whether authorities had identified any sus ects in haynes's death saying quote we don't typically
00:47:30
name suspects that's all I'm going to say at this point and quote but as we know Captain there were suspects and
00:47:41
currently there still are suspects currently in 2021 there are still suspects in several
00:47:47
of them Trish Haynes was last scene in May of 2018 she was reported missing there were
00:47:54
crime scenes that were ident identified remains that were found in September of 2018 again some of the family ordered
00:48:02
not to share with other family members the findings and throughout 2019 where we left off in our timeline
00:48:14
there's no arrest made there's no new leads doesn't appear to be any new evidence why what are they doing with
00:48:21
this investigation this murder remains unsolved the killer or Killers have not been held accountable
00:48:32
and as you pointed out Captain this is abuse this is torture if these people killed Trish
00:48:39
haes I guarantee you the last days for her were torture so much more to get to stick
