[Music] and Owens sound police are releasing photos of the suspects wanted in the

vicious assault of a business owner last week these are the photos of two of the
00:03:12
men wanted in the attack and the vehicle that they were driving police say the men attacked Sharie Ramen while he was

in the process of closing his restaurant the Curry House last Thursday night he was settling up with the last remaining
00:03:25
group of customers when they attacked him allegedly pushing and striking him and his nephew now there was a large
00:03:31
turnout in Owen Sound last night in support of rwen about 800 people gathered through the downtown area for a
00:03:38
vigil raman's nephew suffered minor injuries but Raman himself suffered serious life-threatening head injuries
00:03:45
and has not yet regained Consciousness he remains in a London Ontario hospital there is another event planned for
00:03:51
tomorrow in Owen Sound in support of ramen and his [Music] family [Music] you heard it there that is audio from

CTV News and you can find them at ctvnews.ca online that was a report of an incredibly aggravating story out of

Ontario Canada and the result of that senseless attack is quite heartbreaking but before we get into the details of
00:04:25
this week's True Crime Story we need to introduce you all to a great man named share Ramen born and raised in
00:04:34
Bangladesh Sharie Ramen moved to Canada about 10 years before the events that we
00:04:39
will be discussing this week and those events are unfortunately leading up to the events of this last summer sadly
00:04:47
Sharie Ramen was murdered in August of 2023 now this murder took place in a very public setting which quickly led to
00:04:56
a very public murder investigation this attack resulting in sharie's death took place on Canadian soil and as far as I
00:05:05
know Captain we might be the first American True Crime podcast show to provide coverage of this ongoing

investigation let's learn a little bit about Sheriff now prior to arriving in the small city of Owen Sound Ontario

Sheriff earned a master's degree in International Development at the University of Glasgow in Scotland then
00:05:29
in 2015 Sharie purchased the Curry House a business that would marry two of his great loves delicious foods and giving
00:05:38
back to his community Sharie Ramen was a beloved individual he is described by family and friends as a gentle spirit so
00:05:47
from 2015 through last summer shareif is a local small business owner who somehow
00:05:54
manages to find time to volunteer for food banks and homeless shelters it was was also successful at helping to raise
00:06:01
funds with a goal to end Hunger in his community and Beyond he was a board member of the grey Bruce YMCA and he and
00:06:11
his family spent time supporting their neighborhood initiatives as well so as one will figure he is rather a busy dude
00:06:19
because as said he was doing this all while running a popular downtown restaurant the Curry House we know that
00:06:28
he very much enjoyed his restaurant for many reasons he loved providing wonderful food and jobs to local
00:06:35
residents but the greatest joy his restaurant afforded was a space for community members of all ethnicities to
00:06:44
come together to enjoy food conversation and connection frequently characterized
00:06:50
as a peaceful and kind individual the Beloved local business owner seemed an extremely unlikely victim of a violent
00:07:00
attack that he would unfortunately suffer on a humid August Night in 2023 just a couple examples of what he
00:07:09
was doing for the community he'd have special events and the profits of those events would go to feeding the homeless
00:07:17
he also would donate his time and by cooking meals for the homeless as well and just to complete this picture of
00:07:27
this tragic mystery Sharie and his young wife Shela nazin immigrated to Canada in
00:07:36
2013 with the Dual goal of beginning a business and starting a family the two relocated to Canada in 2013 and settled
00:07:45
in the small city of Owen Sound Ontario the community seems to have everything the young couple was looking for
00:07:53
diversity friendly residence business prospects and opportunities to get involved in local charities fundraising
00:08:01
and other community activities in 2015 the dream was realized when the couple purchased the Curry House a
00:08:09
restaurant in downtown Owens Sound Ontario the second and no doubt far more important was achieved when having a
00:08:17
baby in 2017 the couple welcomed their daughter just 6 years before Shari's untimely and
00:08:26
tragic death in March of 202 Sharie Ramen did an interview with Century 21 this was an in studio video interview

and anyone who has seen this I think will agree what I see in this interview is shareif is a relaxed modest man who

is the embodiment of a true immigrant success story he's softspoken and friendly but exuding a quiet confidence

Sharie ramen's eyes sparkle when he discusses the dishes he lovingly prepares at the Curry

House it is clear that the restaurant specializing in Indian Cuisine from parts of India Pakistan and
00:09:14
Bangladesh this is his pride and joy and shereif is unhesitating when asked to name his most
00:09:22
popular dish chicken tikka masala in response to a question about the spiciest dish on the menu Sharie
00:09:30
laughingly categorizes the vulu as 10 out of 10 on the fiery scale but he becomes truly animated when he describes
00:09:41
why he Delights in what he does for a living how every day is different and the Deep connection that he feels to
00:09:49
each of his customers and the community at large a little more than a year after
00:09:55
that interview a brutal attack would heartlessly extinguish this Shining Light this The Shining Light of this
00:10:04
community the Owen Sound Community and patrons of the restaurant and neighbors would forever mourn the loss of a
00:10:12
beloved business leader and friend The Vicious murder of Sharie Ramen is as of yet unsolved and I say as of yet because
00:10:21
I think that there is plenty of meat on the bone here and a way for the public to help and the Community is left to
00:10:30
wonder who would callously take this gentle inspirational soul and true leader from their midst so after
00:10:38
purchasing the restaurant the Curry House in 2015 captain and putting down roots in their adopted Community Sharie
00:10:46
soon became a beloved fixture of that neighborhood again he enjoyed not just feeding everybody in the community
00:10:52
anybody that was willing to stop into his restaurant but also providing jobs and you and I both talked and touched
00:10:58
upon on some of his fundraising efforts and volunteering efforts but he was also
00:11:04
a board member of the Owen Sound gray Bruce YMCA a generous supporter of their programs and he welcomed newcomers to
00:11:14
the neighborhood and you can imagine that he's in a good position to do this as a business owner a family man but as
00:11:21
somebody that moved there from far away himself right so he could share in his experiences and help them out to get
00:11:30
better acquainted with the community and again this this individual is doing things in his community in a positive
00:11:41
way and doing many things that you don't have to do as a business owner he didn't
00:11:46
have to feed the Homeless he didn't have to have special events to try to raise money he he could have just went to work
00:11:54
and kept his head down and took all the funds and made his pockets bigger but that's not what kind of person he was
00:12:03
and you know it's January a lot of people were looking for a new gym or for for a gym membership somewhere checking
00:12:09
out their their local places to work out as said he was board member at the uh YMCA there but he had also set up and
00:12:18
was running helping to run a small Cafe in the lobby of the YMCA's facility so anybody that's ever experienced a
00:12:28
cafeteria or a cafe or a a gym that provides maybe a a smoothie or juice bar yeah that's that's quite a an amenity to
00:12:40
uh those locations yeah I heard that he served a cafe latte so Owen Sound this is a smaller Community it's a Charming
00:12:49
city located on the southern shore of the Georgian of the Georgian Bay known as the scenic city it lies at the foot
00:12:58
foot of the Bruce Peninsula nestled at the mouths of Two Rivers so this is a gorgeous area think hiking trails Parks
00:13:07
breathtaking waterfalls and a large tranquil Harbor The Great Outdoors is just moments away from the historic
00:13:16
downtown that's where his restaurant is located this vibrant historic city has a
00:13:22
population of a little more than 21,000 people so it's it's not a huge community
00:13:29
according to the 2021 census as said just over 21,000 people Owens sounds thriving downtown area host numerous
00:13:38
annual cultural events and festivals so it's not difficult to see why people continue to flock to this area as there
00:13:46
are so many different advantages that would appeal to a wide range of people now some have said and we see this all
00:13:54
over the map Captain with all these cases that we discuss with increased population and growth sometimes come big
00:14:03
city issues and problems like many communities across the US and in Canada the city was dealing with destitution
00:14:12
and homelessness the affordability of available housing and the effects of the drug epidemic crime appeared to be
00:14:21
steadily increasing in 2023 in Owen Sound some of these would be violent crimes so to give an example of the crime
00:14:33
Trends in this city right from 2016 to 2022 there was only one single homicide reported in this community one now fast
00:14:45
forward to last year 2023 we have two murders in July of 2023 and then a little more than a month
00:14:53
later a third life would be claimed and that unfortunately was the murder of our
00:14:58
respected businessman Sharie Ramen now let's get into the day in question here this will be just last summer on
00:15:07
Thursday August 17th 2023 and we are at the couples restaurant the popular downtown
00:15:15
establishment the Curry House so make mental note of that it's a Thursday it's business as usual here for the most part
00:15:24
we have all had the Thursday restaurant experience it tends to be a little busier than early ear in the week but
00:15:29
not as busy as Friday and Saturday as those are typically your money-making days it's close to closing time this
00:15:38
puts us roughly at about 9 to 9:15 p.m. Sharie Ramen is preparing to close the Curry house for the night so he is
00:15:49
circling amongst the tables exchanging pleasantries with the patrons but this is also the time in the evening when you
00:15:57
are cheerfully bringing up hey would you like some dessert or maybe one last drink before I bring you the check then
00:16:04
after the front of the house and in this case share will go around requesting that the patrons settle their bill if
00:16:11
they hadn't already done so shareif goes over to a table where we have three guys
00:16:17
sitting at this table the three male patrons had been dining that evening and Sharie asked them to settle their bill
00:16:27
the men apparently refused to pay their tab without explanation and they get up from their chairs and from the table and
00:16:35
they walk away and they leave the restaurant well shareif followed them outside in an attempt to continue the
00:16:44
discussion hey we still got this check that needs to be taken care of here gentlemen yeah they're essentially
00:16:50
stealing from his business joining him following him is his nephew adnot so now we have a group of five men and what
00:17:00
ends up being kind of they're kind of standing in a circle on the sidewalk just outside of the
00:17:08
restaurant three of them are customers who reportedly are not planning to pay the bill ref refusing in fact thieves
00:17:16
and two gentlemen from the Curry House restaurant in front of the Curry House a heated argument quickly escalated into a
00:17:26
physical confrontation resulting in shareif and his nephew being assaulted by the three men the Toronto son
00:17:35
reported that that that the altercation which had begun over the dispute concerning
00:17:41
a get ready for this people $40 check yeah occurred at around 9:15 that evening and we're pretty just
00:17:52
pathetic we're pretty locked and loaded on that time right it it is around 9:15 but that's a pretty solid time and we
00:18:00
know this based off of some evidence and things that we will get into here in a bit right
00:18:06
Adon sharif's nephew suffered only minor cuts and bruises from this attack but Shere was violently assaulted
00:18:15
and beaten about the head to the point of losing Consciousness at the local level we have
00:18:22
the Owen Sound Police Service they will be some of the First Responders to hit the scene
00:18:29
when the Owens sound Police Service osps going forward when they arrive on the scene it was clear that Sharie had
00:18:38
suffered some very serious injuries in the attack outside of his his restaurant his nephew Adnan was in much
00:18:46
better shape as we said he's not seriously hurt but Sharie had been viciously beaten about the head until he
00:18:52
was left in a state of unconsciousness so he's unresponsive when First Responders hit
00:18:58
the scene Shar had been ferociously assaulted sustaining serious injuries it was quickly determined that
00:19:07
Sharie was critically injured by the three attackers and so he's rushed to a London Ontario
00:19:15
hospital where he was placed on life support soon after arrival let's just reiterate the fact that this is over a
00:19:24
$40 bill that these three individuals attacked one man so violently that he goes into a coma and then has to be
00:19:35
placed an intensive care over a $40 Bill well and the thing that I have a hard time getting over here Captain I've
00:19:43
never been to Owen Sound I looked up plenty of pictures and studied the maps of the area this is not this is like an
00:19:50
upscale area this is a beautiful area and I know that that doesn't mean much upscale people can also be trash no I I
00:19:58
know that I know that crazy can happen anywhere unfortunately violence can happen happen anywhere in Even in our
00:20:05
safest of neighborhoods but it it does make it a little harder to Fathom it makes that
00:20:12
pill even harder to swallow when you find that this is something we have two situations here that make it a tough
00:20:22
pill to swallow one such a great guy that he seems to be highly unlikely to be the victim of a violent
00:20:33
attack and two such a great area that you would think that something like this wouldn't happen and the reason why I'm
00:20:41
focusing in on the area a little bit here is that this case to me seems to be the attack seems a little
00:20:53
random but maybe not completely random and I know that sounds weird to say but I think
00:20:59
we can get into why both could be true here later when we get to some of the theories here in this case right so
00:21:08
sadly Sharie would never recover from the attack and he passed away one week after he was beaten outside of his own
00:21:15
restaurant he was just 44 years old a pillar of his community and leaving behind a wife and a young child and I've
00:21:23
seen pictures of Sheree's family from some of the vils and memorials held for this man after he passed and it
00:21:34
was very difficult for me not to tear up seeing his his daughter's face such a cute daughter such a wonderful young
00:21:44
family and a man and a and his wife that are not just building their family they
00:21:51
really laid down some Roots here in Owens sound well I know so many True Crime shows and podcasts that say this
00:21:59
individual lit up a room I don't think that's what kind of man he was I think he was one of those guys that he he
00:22:06
didn't have to light up the room he he took a back seat and helped support other people to light up that room and
00:22:15
all the evidence you need to know about how great of an individual this guy was in his community to his friends and
00:22:22
family was when it was reported he was attacked hundreds and hundreds of people showed up to the restaurant to for to
00:22:33
show their support sometimes we have these events where people show up once a death has occurred but people were
00:22:40
showing up before he died yeah they they estimated that in on one day in particular probably about 6%
00:22:49
of the population of the city like that that's a good turnout now to the to the unfortunate kind of colder more business
00:22:59
side of these true crime stories Shari's passing this of course elevates the case
00:23:06
for the investigators right we are going to go from an obvious attack and assault
00:23:11
to now a fatal attack yeah so a week after the attack on the same day that Sharie passed away Owens sound police
00:23:20
released information about the violent attack on the businessman this including security camera photos and descriptions
00:23:30
of two Caucasian males suspects seen fleeing South on 2 Avenue East and then East on 9th Street East yeah sadly and
00:23:42
we'll post these photos on our social media but it's just the back of these individuals yeah they provided details
00:23:51
of a third suspect as well also described as Caucasian and a photo of a gray or possibly blue 2000's model

similar to a Ford Escape or Mazda Tribute so to be clear here they're not saying it's a Ford

Escape that they're looking for they're not saying it's a Mazda Tribute that they're looking for they're saying that

the description they have from what they can see the investigators are saying it

is similar to a Ford Escape or a Mazda Tribute yeah and my have frustration with this case

so far is and we'll post a picture of the vehicle as well is we have at least two individuals

photographed yes it's the back of the individuals but we have a pretty good description of this

car why hasn't anybody come forward and said I believe it's this individual or I
00:24:52
know that these three individuals were going to the Curry House that that night well well and police are saying to be

clear here Captain police are saying that we believe this vehicle is linked to this incident now the photos were a

little grainy but they're not bad uh they showed two of the men only from the back as the captain pointed out
00:25:15
but a full description including the clothing that they were wearing was included in this announcement from the
00:25:21
police to the public all right so all right I'm requesting that everyone now reduce the power levels to their senses

2023 the first suspect is described as a white man 5' 10 in tall to 6'2 in tall with a medium build and short dark hair

surveillance footage showed him wearing a blue t-shirt black shorts and black running shoes and apparently he's
00:26:30
wearing the right kind of shoes because in the image we have captured by that surveillance camera he is running he is

fleeing the scene suspect number two is described as a white male 5 fo10 in to 6'2 in with a medium build with short
00:26:49
brown hair that is or more importantly was in August of 2023 longer on top he was wearing an orange orange T-shirt

black shorts and black running shoes police are saying that both suspect number one and suspect number two are

believed to be in their mid 20s to mid-30s there is an image of this suspect as well so suspect

number one and number two both images are of the men from the back running fleeing from the scene so these have

been Circ circulating around the web now one week after the attack suspect number three

unfortunately we do not have an image of this POS but what we do have is a general description with what seems

likely to be one major difference between our suspects suspect number three is again Caucasian male he is

curly hair wearing shorts and a t-shirt but police believe that this suspect is in his late 40s to mid

50s police have released information and images of all three male suspects and again two of which they said ran

Southbound on 2 Avenue East toward the intersection of 9th Street and continued eastbound on 9th Street East following

the attack and it makes you wonder if this is possibly the Father the third suspect

being the father of these two younger individuals but what I can guarantee you is we're going to plaster these cowards

pictures all over the Internet and we're going to plaster these cowards and these

pieces of [ __ ] vehicle all over the Internet and somebody will identify these horrible

restaurants and based off of the images that we collected from surveillance footage in the area this this is likely

other businesses in the area or maybe even traffic cameras but they are saying we believe that suspects one and two are

likely in their mid 20s to mid-30s and we also believe that suspect number three the one that we do not have a

picture or image of to circulate he's dressed very similarly he shared a sitdown meal with the other two

he's involved in this altercation and fleeing the scene we believe that this suspect suspect number three is in his

late 40s to mid-50s so if police have this information right if there's a suspicions are

correct well then that puts a possible age difference between suspects 1 and two compared to suspects suspect number

three at a range of as little as about 5 years difference to possibly up to 30 years difference in

age right so that's quite the window there and I think that does open up the possibility

surveillance footage of the image of the vehicle in particular it is is timestamped and yes we've talked about

that those time stamps can be off right but it is timestamped I believe 928 or 929 p.m. that night and we have

witnesses at the restaurant saying that this altercation took place between 9 and

9:15 yeah this looks like it says on this time on this time stamp 921 perfect so they have just enough time to

who knows if all three of them fled to the vehicle and then took off in the vehicle or if only the older suspect did

other view of the car is more of at an angle you can almost see the license plate I know that the photo is grainy

technology to try to clean up that IM image and possibly get some kind of identifier of of a license plate the

alcohol or not and the reason why I bring that up is that typically my experience is that a lot of people when

it comes to alcohol and things like cigarettes or cigars most people tend to find something that

they like and they have kind of their regular oh that's kind of my usual drink right and so I throw that out there that

putting out what is on the bill could trigger somebody out there when you're begging the public over and over again

know my husband would never do that would never be a part of that but wait a second him and him and my son they were

and tonic they ordered two I don't know if they still serve this moose head beers that used to be a popular Canadian

beer but you know you get what I'm throwing down here Captain there there are a lot of people that I have buddies

that a couple buddies one in particular drinks Miller Light that's it that's all

like the only way he drinks another beer is if there is no Miller Light at all yeah and so if you have seen a picture

of one of these suspects and you go well that kind of looks like my buddy and he only drinks

Miller Light and Miller light's on the bill you're more likely to come forward and tell law enforcement hey that

possibly could be my buddy but also when you got three individuals that attack didn't happen in

thirds one of these three individuals was probably the aggressor we probably know

these three that didn't really attack anybody at all and hopefully that person has a brain and will come forward

it's very likely that one or all three of these individuals woke up the next morning not even knowing that they sent

the guy to the hospital they may not know that waking up the next day they're at lunch one of them's at lunch one of

them's talking to a buddy somebody's talking to a cooworker and said yeah man it strangest thing last night was out

with a couple buddies and uh got into it with these restaurant workers we had beat the one dude up pretty bad and left

him on the side of the street and got the hell out of there right that I feel like that happened I feel like somebody

told that exact story and I go back to the let's see what was on the check because I can I

know of at least two cases two real life cases that they honed in on a suspect based off of what

kind of cigarettes they smoked I know of one serial killer that they narrowed it

down to him based off of what carry out he went to that he frequent it so these things are potentially things that could

help the public help the public to help the police the other thing too given the

images that they captured you're right Captain you hone in on and trying to find some details some identifiers on

that vehicle that's smart the thing to me when I see the backs of these two suspects pieces of [ __ ] they appear to

be dressed rather casual right like I don't even see they're coming from the gym exactly it look it looks like they

they were what someone would wear at the gym and this is not like a polo shirt and some khaki shorts or I don't even

I mean there are some nicer shorts and then there's these look like you might want to go out and pick play a game of

pickup basketball no and the other thing too is if you work with somebody or friends with somebody that has a blank

eye had some cuts on their face face or maybe some marks on their arm and and they told you some dumb

of people that don't know that they have important information and look for all we know law enforcement has that

important information and they're just building a case before they make this arrest because like we said this is a

community well they might have been pillars at one point but now they're pieces of [ __ ] of the community and they

able to clean up one part of the picture on our suspect I would hone in on the shoes right

because those shoes are going to be much more descriptive than the shirt and the

cannot see the suspects faces another theory in this case and it might be an obvious one is that the

attack was an anti-muslim hate crime particularly since it was perpetrated by as described three Caucasian

males and this is has been discussed quite a bit in this case in fact some sources reported that the crime as being

potentially racially motivated however it is important to note that both of the two investigating

agencies the osps and the op yeah you know me have not confirmed motive behind the assault so the two investigating

agencies they're not saying that they believe that it was dine and dash right motivated they're not saying that it was

racially motivated they're not saying that it was a hate crime but of those three of those the two theories that

we've discussed here the dond dash thing is is you cannot deny that that is a fact these

guys left the restaurant with no intention to pay the bill so that is involved in the

situation but we don't know if it's if you can underline it and circle it as a motivating

factor the investigating agencies have stressed that the investigation is on going and to date they have not

uncovered any evidence pointing to racism as a driver of the senseless act of violence further Muslim Community

leaders do not seem to believe it was a biased crime although some of sharie's family and friends would certainly

disagree including family friend and Advocate Mark Bosa rat was a factor Barbosa is confident his peaceful friend

would never have instigated this type of altercation and he says his friend was likely

cornered by Thugs who he believes were looking for trouble despite the recent killings of

Association rejected the idea that Shari's death was the result of racial bias they shared with the media that in

general the community of Owen Sound was welcoming a welcoming place for minorities now it's difficult to believe

that the police were not able to obtain better images of the three ass salance right given that the downtown area has

numerous security cameras it's surprising that the few photos of these men that were taken were

of poor quality and only features two of the men instead of three and only features two of them as they fled the

scene from the back but again this is what we are being told by la enforcement they might have a couple aces up their

months ago in Ottawa a shooting rampage at a September wedding resulted in the deaths of two

Muslims and wounding of six others after this incident police issued a statement

that there was no indication that the attack was motivated by hate so what we're saying is this is this

remains a possibility even though police aren't honing in on it the other thing though that you need to keep in mind is

unless they had been to this restaurant before and unless they knew of the owner then the hate crime situation

perpetrators they made arrest so those are th this is not connected to those other cases right it's impossible for

aren't incredibly local here and I hope and I look I believe this is a great investigation but this is certainly a

possibility that they're not local I hope that they track down I hope that they were on it for rental cars that

match this description at this time period I hope they're on that and checked every place that they could

possibly think of also extend that it doesn't have to be a rental that somebody picked up in town it could be

somebody picked up a rental out of town and drove it into town so I hope that they're checking those potential leads

community outpouring for support for this family and for Justice and look these people they want their streets to

be cleaned up nobody wants this to happen in their Community especially to a beloved individual generous individual

in their community and so the people that came out to the vigils to the memorial services and that that put

flowers in front of the restaurant and continue to put up signs and flyers asking for help it gets very hard to

hide in that situation if you are local well they also did a GoFundMe account I think I think they wanted to raise about

$25,000 for his family and I I believe that it's well over a quarter million that's that's how much this guy

was loved in his community right and I hope and pray that this is not happening I hope and pray that the person that

knows something out there is going well yeah it's unfortunate this the guy died they didn't intend to kill him and

his family did receive $250,000 do don't rationalize any of this away go and look at the picture look at the face
