Jennifer Medernach /// Part 2 /// 533

November 16, 2023 / 51:08

This episode covers the unsolved murder of Jennifer Meck, the investigation's history, and potential suspects, including Richard Avanet and two local men.

Jennifer Meck was found dead in Long Branch Creek in Jacksonville, Florida, in November 2001. The episode discusses the initial investigation, which stalled over the years, and various efforts to revive it, including the release of playing cards featuring cold cases.

Key discussions include the evidence found at the scene, such as a knife handle and the lack of clothing. The hosts highlight the importance of a possible engagement ring found with Jennifer, suggesting a connection to her murderer.

Richard Avanet, a suspected serial killer, is mentioned as a potential link due to his history of violence against young girls. The episode also examines two local men, Gregory Allen Gfin and David Michael Getts, who were last seen with Jennifer and had questionable connections to her.

The hosts emphasize the need for anyone with information about Jennifer's murder to come forward, as the case remains unresolved after 20 years.

00:03:59
we were talking about the initial investigation and how it started to stall out now that was 20 years ago
00:04:06
almost to the day that Jennifer Meck was found dead in the Long Branch Creek over
00:04:13
the years there has been several efforts to reinvigorate the investigation and kind of Kickstart this thing one more
00:04:23
time in 2006 we have playing cards that were released and 2006 a deck of playing
00:04:31
cards featuring cold cases was released the two of diamonds was Jennifer's card her photo General case information and
00:04:41
where to report any information that you may have were all on Jennifer's card tips did come in but sadly the tips
00:04:51
generated from this tactic so far in the Jennifer menck case LED nowhere in 2013
00:05:00
the case got a little movement this was in May of 2013 when the Clay County deputies and
00:05:08
the FDLE the Florida Department of Law Enforcement searched a home at 200 meland Road for possible evidence
00:05:18
relating to Jennifer's murder it's not clear whether this was pursuant to a tip that they received or what in fact led
00:05:27
the investigators to this property but we do know that it was searched the home was about 2 miles away from where
00:05:34
Jennifer's Body was eventually found from my understanding Captain the short version of the result of this search was
00:05:43
that nothing was located in the home related to the case well what's interesting in this case is when
00:05:49
Jennifer went missing from her home we have a lot of eyewitnesses around the park that saw her so we have this knife
00:05:58
handle that is a piece of evidence that the police can go around and say does anybody in this tight-knit community
00:06:05
they're all like really close together has anybody ever seen this knife before yeah because they have the handle for it
00:06:14
they are referring to it as a unique item it doesn't look to me to be particularly expensive but that doesn't
00:06:21
mean that it's particularly common so you're right this is a um like a a gold color brass color metall looking handle
00:06:31
that they could at least go around with a picture of asking is this something that you've seen before this is not a
00:06:36
small item right this is not the kind of knife that you're putting in your pocket
00:06:41
and walking around with this is kind of picture Rambo right survival knife type situation where this is going to be I I
00:06:50
don't want to say a foot in length from from the butt to the the point but it's going to be a a a rather decent size
00:06:58
item here in December of 2013 the Clay County dive teams decided that they were going to combine a
00:07:07
training exercise with an additional search effort for more evidence in the Stream where Jennifer was found so they
00:07:16
ended up using sophisticated underwater metal detectors that could penetrate the
00:07:21
2 feet of silt that lay at the bottom of the water they were looking for the night
00:07:29
blade of course and any other potential evidence in Jennifer's case they did not
00:07:36
find the knife blade they did recover some items these items were a padlock and a
00:07:42
pocketknife but law enforcement say that these items are not believed to be related in any way to their
00:07:50
investigation or the murder well that answers my question cuz initially when they find the handle under her body my
00:07:57
my question was May maybe the blade broke off and I hate to be graphic but maybe the blade broke off inside of
00:08:06
Jennifer that's very possible and with no autopsy report we can't confirm that but but with this extra dive and what
00:08:14
they're looking for we can confirm it wasn't found inside Jennifer in case you haven't figured it out so far A little
00:08:22
spoiler alert here Jennifer's case is unsolved 20 years ago this week in Jacksonville Florida someone killed this
00:08:30
14-year-old girl and now as we approach this 20-year marker we can only hope that this case does not continue to
00:08:39
remain unsolved and unresolved yeah maybe we can turn up the heat a little bit on someone yeah get hot in the hot
00:08:47
tub because I hope that the person responsible knows that there are plenty of people on this case that are not
00:08:55
going to give up law enforcement has told us that this case case is solvable and will be solved so let's take a quick
00:09:04
look see at some suspects who are either being considered or were considered at one time in this case now my thoughts
00:09:12
are captain that basically we have what I believe would be our two highest of probabilities here right basically two
00:09:21
choices for who killed Jennifer or where we're going to find this individual or individuals either someone in the the
00:09:29
trailer park attacked and killed this still naive and vulnerable teen possibly even grooming her or after grooming her
00:09:37
or someone outside of the trailer park maybe even a stranger was responsible here so we have to consider the
00:09:46
possibility however remote it may be the Jennifer fell victim to an opportunistic
00:09:52
killer if she left Woodland Estates and walked off on her own yeah and we have the report of her being seen leaving
00:10:00
Woodland Estates then anyone could have killed her I mean perhaps she accepted a
00:10:06
ride from a stranger wanting to head to Downtown Jacksonville or got talked into
00:10:13
going somewhere getting into the vehicle well a piece of evidence that we have that I'd like to know more about and I
00:10:20
think is really kind of the Crux of this case is this possible engagement ring because to me if it is a a possible
00:10:30
engagement ring or even a promise ring or just a gift in a romantic gesture or someone trying to woo her to me that
00:10:39
that leans more towards the idea that Jennifer knew her her murderer intimately yes knew her murderer and I
00:10:48
mean even if how brief we cannot say right but again it could be so simple that she found this on the ground or
00:10:57
that she when she was couch surfing that she maybe stole some items and that's something that law enforcement can
00:11:04
figure out pretty easy figure out who she was staying with but again we have that problem because some people aren't
00:11:11
stating that oh well yeah she slept on my couch because I'm an adult man and I don't even want to admit to that but
00:11:19
they could go around and say who did she stay with is there any items missing and
00:11:24
again this is just like the knife handle this is a item that you can now go around to the community and say have you
00:11:31
seen this before so two things I couldn't find a definitive statement of anyone saying anywhere that this ring is
00:11:39
something that appeared on her after she left her mom's house but I have to believe that it is with the way that
00:11:47
it's worded and stated in some of these reports but what is not also readily available and if anyone can find this
00:11:55
out there and can confirm that it is from Jennifer's case this is a call to action for sending this to us or or
00:12:03
posting a link of the picture on our blog at true Crim garage.com exactly what the captain just
00:12:10
said we have a nice visual a picture of the knife handle that was found the murder weapon handle that was found we
00:12:18
don't have a nice visual or a picture of this quote unquote engagement ring and you're exactly right Captain this is
00:12:26
something that you could be taking around what we don't have you know we we talk about maybe she could have stolen
00:12:32
it from someone or someone gave it to her for reasons that are not evil Deeds at
00:12:39
all but we don't have anybody coming forward saying yes I gave that to her or oh I I did see her briefly and I was I'm
00:12:47
missing some jewelry and that's a piece that I'm missing right and look it could
00:12:52
it could also be just one of her friends going oh she ran away from home she's going through a hard time I'm going to
00:12:58
steal this from my parents and and maybe they those people have nothing to do with her murder but you could see why
00:13:06
they wouldn't want to come forward uh especially I guess but I I don't know why you wouldn't want to help
00:13:13
in a situation where you're not guilty of anything no I understand that but and a 14-year-old was murdered no I
00:13:19
understand that but I also think that if maybe some time past I could see an individual with maybe has a bad history
00:13:27
just going I I don't want to look we we've seen a lot of cold cases where a couple years go by and nothing is moving
00:13:38
and and the law enforcement gets a little string and they keep pulling and pulling even if they're going in the
00:13:45
wrong direction they just keep because they feel on some level we have to blame this on somebody so I I could see
00:13:53
somebody you know maybe realizing a couple years after the fact all that that ring is somehow related to us uh
00:14:01
and I don't want to come forward because I don't want to be possibly thrown under
00:14:05
the bus and where my mind goes is when you have this ring that that's on her person found on her person mind you
00:14:12
she's not clothed when found so there's not a lot of items found with her or on her at the time when you find her
00:14:20
murdered and this item on her and this is something she didn't have in her possession to anyone's knowledge before
00:14:28
she quote went missing then this is important to her murder this item is part of the murder
00:14:37
investigation until you can explain it away and Rule it out as not being anything to do with the murder now what
00:14:44
we have here when we review the possibilities of a killer known to the victim or a killer unknown to the victim
00:14:52
we do have to consider the fact that she was 14 years old and could be called a run way if you want to and sometimes you
00:15:01
know 14-year-old runaways get ideas that are not founded in rational thinking and
00:15:06
there was one suspected serial killer who was looked at in Jennifer's case and so we do have to at least explore the
00:15:15
idea and we know that law enforcement explored the idea that there was a possibility that maybe she did leave the
00:15:22
mobile home park and got into somebody's vehicle so the suspect that I'm talking
00:15:28
about has never been entirely ruled out in this case so news4 Jacksonville reported one year after Jennifer's
00:15:37
murder the following that the Clay County Sheriff's office has confirmed to channel 4 at that time that they were
00:15:44
looking at Richard avanet as a possible suspect in the murder of 14-year-old Jennifer metek earlier this year so who
00:15:53
is this Richard avanet he is an individual that abducted a a 15-year-old girl in South Carolina
00:16:00
in June of 2002 he raped her and physically abused her in other ways but she managed to escape and then she goes
00:16:10
to police so the way that I this works this this portion of what he's guilty of works is he pulls up he sees this
00:16:22
15-year-old girl in her front yard pulls up streets side says that he's selling magazines she approaches the vehicle and
00:16:33
once she's close enough to maybe view these magazines if they even existed at all he pulls a gun and at gunpoint he
00:16:41
orders her into his vehicle from there he takes her back to his apartment where she's restrained and
00:16:50
assaulted this is like the Twisted psychological torture stuff that some of these guys really get off on right he
00:17:00
made her or or sat with her and watched the that night's news to see if there were if they were going to report her
00:17:08
missing or if there was any reports of her missing she says that he he goes into the other room she's handcuffed but
00:17:15
at some point he falls asleep and she can hear him snoring so she knows that he's asleep this is when she manages to
00:17:24
get out of the handcuffs flee the apartment and go off and get some help well she's able to
00:17:31
tell the police the apartment where she was kept even though just briefly for you know some hours so they know who
00:17:39
this dude is and he must have got up discovered rather quickly that she's gone he decides he takes off so police
00:17:49
are out on the lookout for this dude they put in an APB out for avanet he's then spotted sometime later
00:17:57
and Sarah inota Florida where police tracked him down there was an armed standoff that ensued which ended when
00:18:06
avanet shot himself in the head the Navy times wrote a great piece about this incident one portion of it reads as
00:18:15
follows quote trapped by a half dozen cops with guns drawn on a dark Florida Highway as a police dog's teeth sank
00:18:24
into his ankle Richard Mark avanet put the muzzle of a 45 caliber handgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger end
00:18:34
quote well this guy was a giant piece of [ __ ] but if you look up Richard he looks like the dad next door
00:18:43
we see this from time to time where we bring up a serial killer and you Google search him and you go that guy looks
00:18:50
like a monster that guy is nothing behind those eyes now what's interesting about a lot of Richard's pictures is it
00:18:59
remember when we talked about uh we talked to that one private investigator and she talked about just the black eyes
00:19:06
it's like everything about him looks normal but it's almost like he has these really like dark dead nothing eyes
00:19:14
people often say when they encounter one of these individuals that there seems to
00:19:18
be nothing behind the eyes yeah isn't that kind of a trait of like a psychopath where you feel like they're
00:19:26
constantly looking through you and not at you well his death did not conclude the investigation into him personally
00:19:36
right since now it was evident that he was a predator and a child rapist the Navy times goes on to say the single
00:19:44
gunshot brought a quick death to the 38-year-old Navy veteran but only started the questions of what he did in
00:19:53
his life so the FBI requested that anyone who knew avanet during his time in the Navy to
00:20:02
please contact the FBI a per the Jacksonville 4 news station that we quoted earlier clay and Duval counties
00:20:11
were two of they were just two of 20 police agencies that were examining unsolved crimes from the times that avit
00:20:22
was in or known to be in their areas in the 80s and early 1990s avit was a Navy sonar technician he was stationed aboard
00:20:33
the SS kulch from 1985 to 1989 out of Naval Station mport in Jacksonville Florida so he's familiar
00:20:44
with this area in 1987 in what is now known to be his first offense let's right underline that first known offense
00:20:54
right it's believed that we do not know the full extent of this man's crimes or possibly even his
00:21:00
murders so in this 1987 offense he drove up to a young girl and started this is M this is disgusting he
00:21:09
drove up to a young girl and started masturbating near her she ran off crying and a neighbor wrote down the license
00:21:17
plate number before avanet drove away after he was caught he pled no contest to a felony of lwd and lascivious
00:21:26
conduct in front of a minor per the Navy times according to a police report from
00:21:32
the 1987 arrest avanet told investigators that he hadn't he had a habit of driving around spotting a young
00:21:40
girl preferably a brunette catching her attention and then masturbating for this
00:21:45
incredibly disgusting hobby avanet got three years probation at this same time he was separately undergoing treatment
00:21:53
for drug and alcohol addiction now none of this this was apparently enough to get him kicked out of the Navy which
00:22:02
Navy officials later admitted it should have in fact he went on to receive some Good Conduct medals for before leaving
00:22:10
the Navy in 1992 you whip it out we lock you up you know what they say click it or tick it right zip it or tick it I
00:22:21
don't care what anybody says you know how disturbing it would be for these females to come up walking wherever and
00:22:30
you see a guy just you know beating it as if it owes him money that person there should be no probation there
00:22:38
should be at least some minimal minimum jail time after his time in the Navy avanet worked a series of jobs in
00:22:46
Virginia and South Carolina including a job at a machine shop uh where he was an
00:22:52
employee in Virginia from 1995 to 1999 then his home was foreclosed Ed and he moved to South Carolina where he was
00:23:00
originally from and here's where it gets I guess I guess interesting is what we're going to say when the police
00:23:08
raided Avon's home after that 2002 rape of the South Carolina girl and then his suicide when they cornered him they
00:23:19
found some interesting stuff it was evidence possibly linking him to the kidnapping and murder of three girls
00:23:28
in Virginia where he was living at the time of their murders so this would be the 1996 to 1997 time frame these were
00:23:39
sisters Kristen and Katie Lisk and a girl named Sophia Silva the clues found included newspaper articles about the
00:23:49
murders and handwritten notes mapping out the areas where the victims lived we're not going to to get into the
00:23:59
Weeds on these murders here because we're talking about Jennifer's case but these murders of course were unsolved at
00:24:06
the time at 2002 when they found these items in his apartment but the FBI called avit a strong suspect in the Lisk
00:24:15
and Silva cases and boy were they right because after his death analysis showed that hair from Richard avanet matched
00:24:25
hairs found on the bodies of all all three girls and blue acrylic fibers from a pair of furry handcuffs right he owned
00:24:35
were gathered from the three victims perhaps the most damning evidence was a palm print and fingerprints matching
00:24:43
Christen Lisk found from the inside of the trunk of a vet's car these were found five years after
00:24:53
the Abduction the local sheriff Ronald Knight cried as he announced the incredible break in the case and the end

00:27:51
review with a nice little write up makes my day I was going to say drugs and old Richard ianet I'd love to
00:27:59
break his legs off shove him up his ass and then [ __ ] down his throat well good
00:28:04
news you won't have to do any of that because as said the police surrounded him the dogs are biting into his legs
00:28:10
and he's he decided to end it for us now that can be good that can be bad it's bad for some of these investigations it
00:28:18
seems to me pretty cut and dried right that this guy is guilty of these three murders but what else is he guilty of
00:28:26
well he's also guilty of the Abduction of Cara Robinson but she got free and then once it's brought to light what
00:28:36
this creep was up to you know neighbors recalled avanet as someone who had an unhealthy interest in young girls and
00:28:44
believe you me this seems like an understatement so what is it that connects Richard of vonet to Jennifer
00:28:54
metac not a whole heck of a lot but but there is enough to be intriguing first avanet lived in Clay County where
00:29:03
Jennifer's Body was eventually found he lived there in the late 80s and then after his death in 2002 from the
00:29:11
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Rick Graham said quote we do have a connection of him being in this city in
00:29:18
the late 80s we will be going back to that time period and looking to see if there's possibilities that Mr avanet
00:29:27
could be connected to any unsolved murders back in that era now it's worth noting that they do not have specific
00:29:36
information or did not at that time that ianet was in the Jacksonville area in the year of 2001 when Jennifer was
00:29:45
killed the last time he was known to be in that city was more than a decade beforeand but avanet traveled around a
00:29:54
lot as we've already pointed out neighbors reported that he had an unhealthy interest in prepubescent girls
00:30:01
and by his own admission avanet was into young brunette girls further the murders
00:30:08
of Sophia Silva and sisters Katie and Kristen Lisk bear a similarity to Jennifer's case here's some information
00:30:17
from the Navy times see if you can discern why we've included these cases and why these cases would be of interest
00:30:25
to Jennifer metx investigators Silva 16 years old disappeared from her front porch on September 16th 1997 her body
00:30:36
was found Days Later wrapped in a blanket near an area Creek Katie 12 and Kristen 15 were
00:30:44
abducted from the front yard of their home on May 1st 1997 their bodies were found in a nearby River just days later
00:30:55
so pretty obvious right here Captain where we have our victim Jennifer madanick that was known to be or
00:31:03
believed to be still in the area in her General neighborhood and then later found in a creek similar situation with
00:31:11
all three of these girls at ranged in age from 12 to 16 and of course Jennifer fits right in the middle of those ages a
00:31:21
vonet who was intimately familiar with the area where Jennifer was found liked to murder brunette teen girls and then
00:31:30
dump them in or near waterways now that's not enough of course to connect him to Jennifer's case right and at
00:31:39
least two of his other victims were strangled not stabbed but we do know from the
00:31:47
abduction that he was also known to use a gun so he's he's not wedded to the use
00:31:53
of just one type of weapon right and because he also these could be crimes of opportunity so it's could just be
00:32:00
whatever he has on him at the time both of these crimes the three murders together they do appear to me to be
00:32:08
crimes of opportunity and we have his own admission to police saying that he would drive around looking for girls
00:32:15
well let me throw out one thing that might just seem very obvious but in this case like we know when she leaves her
00:32:23
mother's house we have multiple eyewitnesses to say Where She Went afterwards or that they saw her and we
00:32:31
believe them because the story checks out so to me the idea that she left the park because we have eyewitness accounts
00:32:42
of this to me this is information that we should believe because the other eyewitnesses accounts were correct she
00:32:50
was seen leaving the park the interesting thing to me here Captain is we don't know the the details of this
00:32:57
but we do have the statement from police that she was at a party right and so several of these ey Witnesses could have
00:33:05
been at the same party and I want to know exactly when this party took place because is she there at this party
00:33:15
talking to her peers and kind of filling them in on her whereabouts or what she's been up to
00:33:21
since she's left Mommy's house right so these would be statements that they're later a ble to pass along to the
00:33:29
sheriff's department and as you pointed out they're probably backed up by other Witnesses statements right if a vonet
00:33:35
did Kill Jennifer long story short he took that secret with him to his grave but I think what we should do here is
00:33:45
circle back to our other idea that someone closer to home someone that likely knew Jennifer even no matter how
00:33:53
brief and the killer could have been someone that she possibly trusted so let's look at what evidence we have that
00:34:00
the killer was someone who resided or spent time in Woodland Estates the original investigator on the case
00:34:09
remember this is a 20-year-old case here was Lieutenant Jim Redmond who was a seasoned dedicated law enforcement
00:34:18
officer he said publicly after the murder that he believed that Jennifer's killer was quote from the area he told
00:34:26
the union and went on to say quote the fact of the matter is she didn't run away from her
00:34:33
community it was more of an issue of frequent curfew violations we believe she was still
00:34:41
right in the community where she lived this case will get solved right in that area where she lived end quote so
00:34:50
clearly police were looking at someone close to home but like you said almost to the day
00:34:57
this is a 20-year-old case mhm and when you have a case that's gone on that long
00:35:04
you have Peaks and valleys when you get new information maybe you then reach out
00:35:09
to the public try to get people talking and then you have LS we just nothing new
00:35:15
information's not coming in you're not getting any tips it's hard to work the case in those scenarios but through the
00:35:21
whole time we believe law enforcement had some suspects that they were always working on yeah and it looks to me
00:35:28
Captain like Klay county has about five unsolved homicides in this time span so they have a good
00:35:40
success rate when it comes to solving similar types of crimes and similar types of cases and what you're going to
00:35:47
see here is even though they're not announcing everything publicly there seems to have been a lot that was going
00:35:54
on behind the scenes in this particular case and we catch a little wind of that from a statement from 2015 this was
00:36:02
Lieutenant Wayne mckenny of Clay County Sheriff's Office who supervised its robbery/homicide Special Victims
00:36:11
division he said we actually had some suspects over the years that we have talked to we've had some Persons of
00:36:18
Interest that we've definitely been interested in who was he talking about well detectives believe and still
00:36:24
believe that Jennifer was killed by someone from Woodland Estates Cold Case detective Rob shover kind of backs up a
00:36:32
lot of this thought here who he told us as intriguing as the Richard vonet lead seems we got to go back to the very
00:36:42
beginning and that investigators were convinced very early on that Jennifer was killed by someone from her
00:36:48
neighborhood and he said that they were able to gather credible information regarding specific individuals at the
00:36:57
mobile home park so here's what I was able to piece together here captain in in this regard we know that Jennifer was
00:37:05
hanging around the Woodland Estates well she was very unwisely hanging around with the wrong crowd and this is per her
00:37:14
mother's statements per law enforcement's statements as well now we figured out that there was a large party
00:37:21
scene in Woodland Estates and as we stated earlier it was pretty sh there was one home in particular where
00:37:29
impressionable young people this is both boys and girls teenagers this includes underage kids
00:37:37
who were Jennifer's peers where they went to hang out and this was to drink possibly do drugs and maybe even have
00:37:48
all sorts of sexual Liaisons the home was toward the front of the park and was occupied by two guys in their early
00:37:57
20s either they had a liking for young girls or couldn't manage to pick up women of their own age and they're
00:38:05
housing these underage parties frequently in their trailer a little birdie has told us that Jennifer was
00:38:12
involved with one of them and the relationship did involve drugs and sex it's possible that she was groomed by
00:38:22
these guys or one of the guys in particular giving her drugs or tempting her with drugs maybe one of these guys
00:38:32
gave her that ring that was found later maybe even promised that he loved her in some way
00:38:40
through police interviews with people in the trailer park they learned that several other guys may have had some
00:38:46
type of romantic exchange with Jennifer now mind you we shouldn't have to point this out but this is a 14-year-old girl
00:38:54
so these guys are all essentially pedophiles anyway investigators gathered that Jennifer had been hanging out at
00:39:03
this sketchy party home in the time that she was quote missing now through secondhand statements we learned that
00:39:11
Witnesses said that they saw Jennifer and she was last seen getting into a pickup truck owned by one of these guys
00:39:19
this on Wednesday remember her body was found on Thursday right so Witnesses seen Jennifer getting into a pickup
00:39:28
truck owned by one of these guys on Wednesday and leaving Woodland Estates in the company of the two party guys
00:39:35
from the mobile home on Thursday her body was found these two Predators the last people known to have been seen with
00:39:43
Jennifer our victim are Gregory Allen gfin and David Michael getts these names have never been released publicly before
00:39:52
that we know of now even though investigators knew that gets and GIF and were their guys when they brought them
00:39:59
in for questioning they ran into some trouble here what we have is that gfin gives a sworn statement that he was
00:40:08
present when Jennifer was murdered by his friend David Michael gets but then he retracted this statement and then
00:40:17
kept flip-flopping on his story and the state's attorney decided that given the unreliability of this discredited
00:40:27
statement against gets even though authorities believe gfin and gets are in fact responsible for Jennifer's murder
00:40:35
there was not enough to proceed with charges at that time so one piece of [ __ ] says hey this other piece of [ __ ]
00:40:43
he's responsible and then when they come back he says oh no no no no no I changed
00:40:48
my mind the old waffling the old flip-flopping yes but we've also seen people be interrogated and throw some
00:40:56
somebody under the bus that is innocent well investigators talking with people at the Woodland Estates in the days
00:41:03
after Jennifer's murder found out that gats was seen cleaning out his truck the day after Jennifer was killed he washed
00:41:12
it down and cleaned out the inside potentially eradicating possible evidence and Jennifer's clothes her
00:41:18
clothing was never found and neither was the knife blade so other than the witness statements that Jennifer was
00:41:26
involved with one of the guys or one of these guys that she had been hanging out
00:41:32
in their trailer when her mom was looking for her and that she had been seen in get's truck with the both of
00:41:40
them and then had turned up dead the next day there was nothing concrete beyond that to go on apparently our boy
00:41:48
gfin is in prison in Oklahoma and has been visited by the investigating agency trying to persuade him to talk but the
00:41:58
inmate would not cooperate gfin and GS have never been charged with Jennifer's murder well maybe somebody from this
00:42:08
park knows that one of these turd bags own the knife or possibly own this ring that they gave to Jennifer Jennifer's
00:42:18
mom died of a heart attack in 2011 but luckily clay County's Cold Case Investigator David shover is still
00:42:27
Seeking Justice in her case there has been some good news in the case the State's Attorney's office has decided to
00:42:36
take another look at Jennifer's case representatives from that office collected all of the files from Clay
00:42:42
County homicide and are reviewing the file detective shover tells us that they believe gfin and gets are guilty and he
00:42:52
is hopeful that they will decide to press charges for Jennifer murder old gfin and gets sounds like a
00:43:00
record company from the 20s one of them confessed before maybe one of them would
00:43:06
confess again but it's been 20 years and let me remind you of this statement this
00:43:13
statement by law enforcement this was a 14-year-old girl who was brutally murdered and dumped into the creek like
00:43:21
a piece of trash and she was murdered by pieces of trash and people saw her walking around talking with people
00:43:29
hanging out with people and possibly being at a party somebody has seen more or heard more or maybe one of these
00:43:39
scumbags gifing or gets has told somebody something and somebody out there has information and they've been
00:43:46
holding on to this information for quite a long time Justice needs to be served and you if you know something you need
00:43:54
to say something and you need to contact law enforcement well and maybe you're an
00:43:59
eyewitness or an ear witness to something during that time period when she was away from home leading up to her
00:44:08
death or maybe you've heard something or been told something since then in the last 20 years and it was something that
00:44:17
was a little confusing to you but now hearing the names knowing the names Gregory Allen gfin and David Michael
00:44:24
gets maybe that picture becomes a little clearer to you and maybe you now have a
00:44:30
better understanding of what it was that you heard or something that you may have
00:44:34
seen all those years ago it's not too late to inform law enforcement about what you know they
00:44:43
still if you don't have direct information regarding the murder itself or the moving of the body or the
00:44:50
disposal of her body they still want to fill in the blanks on that timeline from
00:44:57
the time that she left her mother Angie's home to the time that she ended up in Long Branch Creek in one of the
00:45:05
more recent articles about Jennifer's homicide and the ongoing investigation this was titled unsolved the murder of
00:45:12
Jennifer metac by Katherine jeffri in the article detective shover says I know some people are out there
00:45:21
with knowledge and for whatever reason are not coming forward but you have to look at this 14-year-old girl she didn't
00:45:28
deserve to die like this the wounds that you could see during the autopsy it was
00:45:33
very gruesome but the way she died it was a horrible and tragic death for her to
00:45:39
have to go through again Jennifer meck's life was brutally ended in November of 2001 her body was found dumped under a
00:45:48
small bridge in a desolate area along County Road to 17 the evidence at the scene indicates the body was probably
00:45:57
dumped off of the bridge this is just one of a handful of unsolved murder cases in Clay County detective Ron
00:46:05
shover with the Clay County Sheriff's Office primarily focus is bringing closure to these cold cases so he is
00:46:14
reopening This Cold Case again if you have any information whether you think it's big or small it could be a very
00:46:23
little detail that could help law enforce ment if you know something say something on November 5th 2001
00:46:31
Jennifer's mother reported her missing reported her daughter missing we need to fill in the blanks on that timeline
00:46:37
because 3 days later her body was found in that Creek 11 miles away from home detectives believed that she bled to
00:46:45
death after receiving multiple stab wounds underneath her body investigators found the handle of a knife with strands
00:46:53
of Jennifer's Hair of of course they believe this is the murder weapon so any information about the knife itself is
00:47:00
crucial and important also remember her clothing the items that she was last seen wearing brown sandals green and
00:47:08
black shorts and a white T-shirt with red lips on it have never been found either and the knife handle was just one
00:47:17
of several pieces of evidence collected from the scene evidence the Clay County Sheriff's Office says they are
00:47:23
resubmitting for DNA testing and as we know there are people who law enforcement is looking at looking at are
00:47:31
looking at very closely in fact detective shover says to this day there are a couple of individuals that are
00:47:38
Persons of Interest and high on the list and he firmly believes there are people
00:47:43
who know more than what they told detectives in 2001 quote I know some people are out there with knowledge and
00:47:50
for whatever reason are not coming forward a special Thanks goes out to Klay County Sheriff office for their
00:47:56
hard work and continued efforts on this now 20 yearold case and kudos to Katie Jeff for her great reporting keeping
00:48:05
Jennifer's case and others in the spotlight and efforts to spread awareness of these cases and reminding
00:48:12
the public that law enforcement needs your help if you know something say something if anyone listening knows
