Holly Bobo /// Part 2 /// 147

December 01, 2022 / 58:39

This episode covers the case of Holly Bobo, a nursing student who went missing in 2011, and the subsequent arrests and trials of several suspects including Zachary Adams, Dylan Adams, and Jason Autry. Key discussions include the confessions, the discovery of Holly's remains, and the legal proceedings surrounding the case.

The episode begins with the hosts discussing the timeline of Holly Bobo's disappearance and the various suspects involved. They mention the arrests of Zachary Adams and his brother Dylan Adams, along with their friend Jason Autry, who was granted immunity in exchange for testimony.

Jason Autry's testimony is a focal point, detailing his involvement in the events leading up to Holly's murder. He describes how he helped dispose of her body and the chilling moment he realized she was still alive when Zachary Adams shot her.

The hosts also discuss the inconsistencies in the confessions and the evidence presented at trial, including the lack of forensic evidence tying Zachary Adams to the crime. They highlight the defense's arguments and the prosecution's reliance on Autry's testimony.

The episode concludes with the verdict against Zachary Adams, who was found guilty of first-degree murder, and the implications for the other suspects involved in the case.

TLDR

Holly Bobo's case is examined, detailing suspects, confessions, and the trial outcomes.

00:02:50
went missing April 13 2011. now where we left off we had gone through the following years and we have
00:02:58
a situation where we have several men who are arrested this seems to be the the cause for these arrests seems to be
00:03:06
a confession from Dylan Adams his brother Zachary Adams is the first one arrested and charged with first degree
00:03:14
murder and then we have their friend Jason Autry who is arrested and charged with first degree murder two more
00:03:20
Brothers Mark and Jeffrey Percy are arrested for accessory after the fact and then we have Shane Austin who seems
00:03:29
to be working with the police in some form now he was granted immunity early on in this case but we have the police
00:03:37
and investigators saying that they may see charges against Austin at some point because he doesn't seem to be completely
00:03:43
honest and completely for forthcoming to help them in their investigation now later that year after three and a half
00:03:50
years for of looking for Holly Bobo her remains are discovered in September of 2014. when we left off yesterday we said
00:03:59
that we were going to get into these suspects a little more and that's exactly what we're going to do so now we
00:04:06
mentioned that Shane Austin we said that he was offered immunity in exchange for
00:04:10
information regarding the location of Holly Bobo's body uh police checked Shane's phone records and those
00:04:17
indicated that Shane Austen was in contact with Zachary Adams several times on the day of Holly's kidnapping and the
00:04:25
police believe that Austin helped dispose of this body now this agreement between Austin and the authorities
00:04:33
granted him immunity from various charges in the case including all charges arising out of the disposal
00:04:40
destruction burial and or concealment of Holly Bobo's deceased body it also included a provision granting Austin
00:04:48
immunity for drug-related criminal activity not to include any drugs administered to Holly Bobo the agreement
00:04:57
hinged on Bobo's body being recovered from the place where Austin said it was buried that didn't happen so then the
00:05:05
agreement was withdrawn after Austin was unable or unwilling to lead them to the
00:05:11
body yeah the district attorney released a statement that said Austin has not been completely truthful forthcoming and
00:05:18
Cooperative as to any and all aspects of this investigation after that Shane Austin's attorney filed a complaint
00:05:26
against the state asking for an immediate and permanent injunction preventing the state from charging him
00:05:32
in this case so then in February of 2015 by now like I said we have Holly's remains recovered and even before that
00:05:40
we have people charged for the murder charged for the kidnapping and some to accessory 3 after the fact a man once
00:05:48
thought to be a witness in the Holly Bobo case was found dead in an apparent suicide in Florida the body of Shane
00:05:56
Austen was found in a hotel room in Bartow Florida there was no sign of Foul Play and evidence pointed to Austin
00:06:04
committing suicide Austin's attorney blamed the suicide on the continual threats of the prosecution as well as
00:06:12
the Witch Hunt style of Investigation where according to Austin's attorneys authorities relied on rumors instead of
00:06:20
evidence Austin's attorney insists he had nothing to do with the murder of Holly Bobo and that Austin cooperated
00:06:27
fully with the police all right what's your thoughts on this okay well like I said he seemed to have been working with
00:06:33
the police for some time right for whatever reason either he was unwilling or didn't exactly know the whereabouts
00:06:41
of her body because it's not found where he said it would be found or it's possibility that they moved it possible
00:06:49
as well correct now so his ties to this case he has several ties to this case one being that he is a very good friend
00:06:57
of this Zachary Adams who we already said had been charged with first degree murder at this time he's actually the
00:07:04
cousin of Jason Autry who was also charged with first-degree murder so we have this confession from Dylan
00:07:11
Zachary's brother and then we have Shane working with the police they're gathering information but at this time
00:07:17
in the investigation these guys are all kind of turning on one another and each one is saying that so and so had did
00:07:25
this so and so did that I had nothing to do with it we got this circle of idiots
00:07:30
all kind of turning on one another well the facts are that each of these players
00:07:36
or each of these suspects were involved on some level but where they're turning on each other is uh kind of let me point
00:07:44
the finger at you so that makes me look less guilty like yeah I did some bad stuff but I didn't
00:07:51
kill her right now the the two uh Shane Austen the guy that committed suicide uh he he hung
00:07:58
himself in that uh that uh down in Florida in a hotel room now uh he and Zachary Adams who like I said seems to
00:08:08
be the center point the focal point of their investigation maybe he's the ringleader of this group of idiots but
00:08:15
uh they seem to have some kind of um drug ring going on in Tennessee they they fancy I'm guessing they fancy
00:08:24
themselves some kind of some kind of fake gang um they seem to run around a lot together and uh were known to be meth
00:08:33
addicts uh they cooked meth um they sold drugs to people um and then we have you know as I said
00:08:42
he's the cousin of the other guy who's been charged in the murder and it seems that that the real connection of Jason
00:08:49
Autry to Zach Adams and his cousin Shane Austin seems to be his own drug addiction it seems to me like he was
00:08:57
going to these guys to purchase drugs on a regular basis right now let's get into
00:09:05
those two brothers remember we said we have Jeff and Mark Percy that in July of 2014 the Percy brothers were arrested
00:09:13
and charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence they were arrested on the basis of
00:09:19
allegations made by Jeffrey Percy's former roommate Sandra King King alleged that in May of 2014 Jeff had shown her
00:09:29
part of a video showing Zach Adams assaulting Holly Bobo who was tied up and crying
00:09:36
she told police that she only watched a small clip and did not see an actual sexual assault during this clip
00:09:45
police arranged for Sandra King to make a recorded phone call to Jeff where Sandra told Jeff over the phone that
00:09:55
video of Holly if it had been you in the video I would have watched it to which Jeff replied I know Sandra King also
00:10:05
alleges that Jeff's brother Mark was the one that shot the video but to be clear
00:10:10
they are saying that they have knowledge that this video exists or existed at least at one time uh when Sandra said
00:10:19
that she had saw it now authorities had not located this video both brothers denied that any type of
00:10:28
video anything remotely like this existed at all and Jeff Percy denies knowing the other men who have been
00:10:35
charged in the crime Jeff claims that he was unable to hear Sandra during that recorded phone call conversation and
00:10:44
that his ex-wife's name was also Holly the alleged videotape as I said has not been found police have analyzed over 20
00:10:53
phones over 20 cell phones but have not found any video on those phones charges against both men were eventually dropped
00:11:03
yeah the charges were dropped but karma will catch up to him um here's the thing we talked about John
00:11:10
Dylan Adams uh he goes by Dylan Adams he's the brother of Zachary Adams um well just to kind of let's kind of
00:11:17
clear up this suspect pool very quickly before we move on to another one so we have all these suspects we have one
00:11:25
who's dead and gone so we can kind of forget about him he's no longer a concern we have the two brothers that
00:11:31
were accessory after the fact uh police believed but eventually they dropped the
00:11:36
charges against the Percy brothers so let's go ahead and push them out and off to the side we're getting a smaller
00:11:42
group to be concerned with now one of those people was still this Dylan Adams uh he's the one that confessed to
00:11:49
observing Holly Bobo sitting in a green chair in the living room of Zachary Adams home wearing a pink T-shirt and he
00:11:57
also says that Jason Autry was standing just a few feet away when he saw Holly Bobo he also told police that Zach was
00:12:04
wearing camouflage shorts that black T-shirt with the sleeves cut off and the the green pair of Crocs Dylan also
00:12:12
reported that Zach had told him that Zach had raped Holly and videotaped it eventually Dylan would be charged with
00:12:22
rape in this case related to this case Dylan later recanted the confession and alleged that he was coerced right but
00:12:32
his confession led to the arrest of Zachary Adams Jason Autry and Shane Austen many of the details can contained
00:12:39
in that confession were eventually found to be inconsistent with the known evidence at the time
00:12:46
plus the prosecution has been heavily criticized for their refusal to produce evidence against the defendants missing
00:12:55
multiple Discovery deadlines and for making frequent changes to the charges against the defendants with little or no
00:13:02
explanation at all the other complaint is how long it took for the state to share evidence with the defense of these
00:13:10
characters so the arrests take place in early 2014 but it wasn't until July of 2015 that it was announced that the
00:13:18
defendants finally received access to all of the evidence against them all right now we have to fast forward to
00:13:24
this year this is from News 5 in Nashville uh the state granted immunity to Jason Autry who was accused of
00:13:34
killing and kidnapping nursing student Holly Bobo a shocking development that legal analysts said means Autry likely
00:13:41
knows something about Holly Bobo's death according to court documents Jason Autry
00:13:47
Victor Dinsmore Michael Alexander and Shane Austin were all granted immunity agreements in this case why is this
00:13:56
important because we're finally going to go to trial in this case they have charged Zachary Adams with murder and
00:14:04
his trial is was approaching at this time now we said Shane Austen who was somehow
00:14:09
connected to Holly's death he was the one that committed suicide a few years ago
00:14:14
Autry Jason Autry who was recently granted immunity uh he was already in prison when he was charged with his
00:14:22
alleged role in Holly Bobo's murder he was serving time for federal gun charges of some sort uh Jason Autry has always
00:14:31
maintained his innocence though the agreement that they reached will protect Autry by keeping his testimony from
00:14:40
being used against him Autry could still be prosecuted for his alleged role in Holly's death but not for anything that
00:14:48
he may testify about against Zachary Adams right so this move by the prosecution obviously points and proves
00:14:56
how crucial Jason Autry's testimony will be for the state's case against Zachary
00:15:01
Adams the body was so decomposed that it was probably hard to get a lot of forensic evidence off the remains you're
00:15:08
exactly right now last month in September of 2017 Zachary Adams was to the first to go on trial the
00:15:17
prosecution's case was um circumstantial we'll say uh as there was no DNA or other forensic evidence
00:15:26
tying Zachary to the murder Jason Autry of course was the state's key witness and on day four of the Holly Bobo murder
00:15:34
trial he took the stand and here's a clip from his testimony [Music] that you pulled into his driveway
00:15:55
and tell the jury what happened pulled into the driveway I got out the first thing I noticed was a burn
00:16:05
barrel that was burning the second thing was Dylan was standing in the doorway with a shirt off
00:16:14
Shane was walking around saying y'all need to hurry up and get the goddamn hell out of here
00:16:21
and holstered on his side was a firearm I'm sorry I can you repeat please your life statement
00:16:31
The holster you couldn't hear yeah when I pulled in there was a large fire burning
00:16:41
in a burn barrel Dylan Adams was standing at the door of the trailer I'm just moving it so you can tell them
00:16:49
Dylan Adams were standing at the door of the trailer with his shirt off Shane was walking around in the yard
00:16:56
hollering y'all need to hurry up and get the goddamn hell out of here with a firearm
00:17:02
poster on the right side Zach was standing at the door of a white four before Nissan Frontier
00:17:15
I instantly got to Mr Austin and bought a peel about a morphine 100 milligram walked directly back to the PT Cruiser
00:17:28
broke it in half cooked it down and chopped it a few minutes later I got out and walked
00:17:36
back to the four before Nissan where Zach was standing at the door and he said I need
00:17:43
you to help me bury this body and I told him I said yeah damn I hate to tell kill a little JoJo
00:17:51
and he said Jason he said that he said training he didn't say Jason my nickname was trained he said Train That's Holly
00:17:56
Bobo who's JoJo why do you think it was Jojo some days before that Joe owed some money for some pills
00:18:13
him and Jack his enemies they was talking about killing him for the drug debt was there also another relationship
00:18:24
between or another connection between Joe and Zach Shane was there a woman connection between Joe
00:18:34
and Zach did you know what there's a child most of them have a child with the same
00:18:40
woman oh the child one child got oh abused Maybe what'd you do I was clueless all right
00:19:08
I didn't know Holly Bobo since come to know who she was or yes well pictures TVs pictures and stuff like
00:19:17
that so for another about the body that was in the back of the truck I did not describe for the jury where the body was
00:19:30
and once you did after that the body was laying in a multi-colored Farm blanket Farm style blanket it
00:19:40
looked like multiple colors wrapped in the blanket laying up against the back say the truck is sitting here it's
00:19:55
laying against the back instead of laying long ways it's laying this way from the moment
00:20:06
you help with Holly versus hip help with the batch of Meth were you willing yes it was
00:20:17
what you said what he said he said he asked me what happened buried the body and I said yeah
00:20:25
I said I will and he said but I said there's under I want to leave my car somewhere else besides here
00:20:33
instead of shame or Dylan to know that I got involved in this so I told him I said meet me at Yellow
00:20:41
Springs Church I'll talk to PT Cruiser in there and I'll get in the truck with you all right
00:20:47
and so while you were having this conversation with Zach where was Dylan Dylan never came out of the trailer
00:20:56
continuing putting stuff into the burn barrel can you say putting stuff into the barn
00:21:05
Barrel could you see what he was putting into the burn barrel the smell was an apparent
00:21:14
of camp fuel and mayor there was a large Blaze you could the area was tacked and you could smell
00:21:23
the smell of a meth lab burning okay I understand what you could smell but could you see what he was putting in I
00:21:32
could not say I never I never made it that far down I never made it past the door
00:21:40
of that fought before front to uh I never made it past the truck across the truck door
00:21:57
you said earlier that Shane was saying y'all got to hurry up and get out of here did he say why
00:22:02
he had a satellite oh he said there was a guy coming to install the satellite and he didn't know
00:22:10
what time he'd be there so you had him saying it's not like guy Cable Guy whatever's
00:22:17
coming and throwing things in the burn barrel you had Dylan first at the door with no shirt on and then never came out
00:22:23
correct that's great this conversation took place between you and Zachary Adams there between his truck and your Cruiser
00:22:33
that's correct okay [Music] [Music] so what happened I got into PT Cruiser I backed out
00:23:06
went to Yellow Springs Church pulled in when I walked out to the road he was backing out of 30 Yellow Springs Road
00:23:15
he picked me up I got in the truck and we go towards 641 down P Road hey Mr Audrey you're you've now gotten
00:23:32
into the truck with the guy who says there is Holly Bobo is dead and wrapped up in the
00:23:38
truck bed so tell the jury what you guys talked about as we got down going down the road I
00:23:48
brought a change of tension and there were no shovels or pickaxes in the truck all right we're gonna bury our body with
00:23:55
no shovels or pickaxes he looks at me and like he's lost and I said I don't know of no word a man
00:24:07
can just pull up and get a shovels and pickaxes for the dead body in the video continue on yes
00:24:21
yes we go across you say there's nothing to us there's nothing that there's nothing to dig
00:24:30
alternative suggested by me I told him that some years back that I had been underneath Interstate 40 Bridge
00:24:42
and there was a body floating and I told him I said the only thing holding the body up
00:24:49
was the intestines yes and we said we said of course that direction why did you mention about his clothing
00:25:07
what did you talk about specifically what was your plan of disposing of Holly's body
00:25:14
Mr gutter put her in the deep end of the slew I told him I said put her in the deep end that slew
00:25:25
Turtles and she had to heat it up just like that was the opportunity so did you all the only thing holding
00:25:40
the other body up was the gases and the gut I mean it was floating just like I'm
00:25:46
from the river you see a dead fish the only thing holding its up is the gases and the intestines that's the same as it
00:25:52
was you get the guts out down it goes and you had a good idea I understand yeah yes ma'am
00:26:01
so where did you all go and just driving Mr Adams was driving we went to 133 I believe is the
00:26:13
we went to the 133 where the interstate Bridge crosses the Tennessee River underneath it
00:26:25
we made a loop of the entire area to scope it out to make sure no one was in the area
00:26:35
there's a boat ramp small mile or so from there also there's a beach and uh we've circled the boat round
00:26:47
down by the beach turned around come back out not back out but back up to the bridge
00:26:55
made the circle and stopped in a pile of rip wrap let's rip wrap it's a large Limestone Rock
00:27:05
generally about this size changes but you're using handset to show something larger than a dinner plate
00:27:16
that's correct and you said you stopped beside we're back into a pile is this an area that
00:27:24
you had been to before that's correct is this an area do you know whether or not uh
00:27:31
Mr Adams had been to that area before I believe he had well did you tell me where to turn or do you know where to go
00:27:39
he went on his own okay put it backed up to that pile a rip wrap approximately the distance of
00:27:52
this to to that we didn't back all the way against it when you say this to that he just indicated the witness box to the
00:28:00
jury box yes approximately five six foot room room to get out I got out of the truck
00:28:12
with a right hand and I grabbed the upper torso from Miss Lobo Jack come around let the tailgate down
00:28:25
I brought the upper torso to the end of the tailgate where he grabbed the legs and I set the head the upper hand
00:28:37
on the rip wrap dial in the bed of the truck there appeared to be a small amount of
00:28:55
blood can you use your hands to describe what you mean by small amount the the bed of the truck was raged
00:29:10
like the bed of the truck and it looked like it looked as if it had just lightly skid it over
00:29:18
and the blanket at the upper end of the Torso that I grabbed had a small blood spot
00:29:29
maybe the size of an orange maybe the size of an orange did you look inside the blanket never
00:29:44
did you unwrap never how were you able to swing her body around and you get the top part
00:29:57
Zachary Adams gets the bottom part without unwrapping the blanket I grabbed the blanket just like you
00:30:06
would this shirt right here the body didn't weigh very much I was in pretty good shot I say shape
00:30:16
I'm a pretty good sized guy I grabbed a blanket just like that right there and walk to visit
00:30:25
there's a tailgate of the truck at that time he grabs the legs we set the body down
00:30:34
with the upper torso on that pile of rip wrap that y'all just show and we just discussed
00:30:42
[Music] what happened Mr Adams goes to the driver's side of the pickup I'm standing
00:31:00
I'm standing over the top of them my hand on my knees she being right here okay at that time
00:31:13
I see your foot move ment and the sound of distress that sound like um come out of the doors come out come from
00:31:24
the blanket at that time I walked to the door to the passenger side door of the pickup that Mr Adams was digging
00:31:38
in a fanny pack and I told him I said this [ __ ] [ __ ] is still alive we just stopped for a second
00:31:50
I'll walk to the front of the truck and I told Jack I said she's heard my name called and heard me
00:31:58
talking you know at that time he Wheels around walks back to the driver's side pickup
00:32:13
out of the floorboard pickup people was a pistol the same pistol it was hosted on Mr Austin's side at 30
00:32:23
Alice Springs Road and I said whoa let me ask you to stop here did you say whoa because you thought you were gonna
00:32:33
save her life and stop him from doing something bad or did you say whoa for another reason I said well for another
00:32:41
reason to go look and I'll run all the way across here to about this area and look that way to see if anything was
00:32:52
coming how far could you see maybe 250 yards it's a long pretty long stretch I'm right here to the next curve
00:33:09
I looked around and when I looked back around for students are standing let me stop
00:33:16
you said you walked around did you stay down there and then come back stay back here working back and forth watch
00:33:26
it what about looking the other way there was nothing coming I look back this way
00:33:34
and I told him there was nothing coming when did you look just you gotta look down here and wasn't
00:33:47
nothing coming okay I looked around and I told him there was nothing coming close it's clear
00:33:54
something to that to that effect and at that time boom we're going inside the gun went out
00:34:08
and it sound like to me but this shot three four times underneath that bridge I had done made
00:34:15
it back I had done started my way back this way and it sounded like boom boom boom
00:34:28
underneath that bridge was just one shot but it echoed underneath that bridge all
00:34:32
the way down that damn River Bottom foreign so that's the testimony of Jason Autry
00:34:47
describing how he helped Zachary Adams with Holly Bobo's body and then discovering that she was still alive and
00:34:56
Zack shoots her in the back of the head what happens after this is fearing that the noise of The Gunshot May attract
00:35:05
attention they decide to load her body back into the truck and then at that point Zach drops Jason
00:35:13
off because now this is a this Jason Autry is a strange dude he's he's a scary dude and
00:35:20
there's plenty of reasons why um first of all you hear him say you know he thought the body was somebody
00:35:28
else thought it was JoJo because this guy owed money to Zach and his friends right
00:35:34
and when he's told no that's not JoJo that's Holly Bobo and the the the state asked him you know did that
00:35:43
mean anything to you or did you care he said simply says no he didn't care whose
00:35:47
body that was and that's because why one he's a cold-hearted bastard but then on top of
00:35:55
that he's this dude has like a 500 a week drug habit right so the only thing going through his mind
00:36:07
and according to Jason Autry when he shows up there he didn't know that he was going to see
00:36:12
a body he didn't know that he was going to be asked to help dispose of a body or
00:36:17
who it was right all he's thinking about when he's presented with the problem that Zach and these other guys have in
00:36:24
front of him is that you know what if I help these dudes they're gonna they're gonna owe me big time right and
00:36:32
this is my these are the guys that I go to to get my fifty dollar morphine pill 100 milligram morphine pill that he cuts
00:36:40
into half he cooks it up with some meth and then he shoots it now he said that his meth his meth would typically last
00:36:48
him two maybe three days one pill would usually last them about one day he would
00:36:55
do this twice a day and several times a week he would buy one of these pills so really all he's thinking about all all
00:37:02
he's doing is they're gonna owe me big I can feed my drug habit for free for a while because I'm helping these these
00:37:11
monsters well get rid of this body even if it's not for free this is my connection so I don't want to burn this
00:37:19
bridge you know and the the you know I said why he's a scary dude but he's a strange dude
00:37:26
because it seems to me like Jason Autry the only thing that he is afraid of now mind you this guy gave about six hours
00:37:33
of testimony and you learn when you listen to this testimony the only thing he seems to be
00:37:38
afraid of is his girlfriend because the whole reason why he has Zach drop him off before Zach goes and dumps the body
00:37:46
is because he's supposed to meet his girlfriend for lunch and he starts saying to Zach at some point look dude I
00:37:52
got this place that I have to be at this time you got to drop me off you got to get me back to my PT Cruiser so I can go
00:37:59
on my lunch date well it's sad because it you know the way he talks about it is so
00:38:07
nonchalant like this is not that big of a deal you know these these actions that we did
00:38:13
and this these events that you know he lived through they're not a big deal at all and that
00:38:20
that this person it didn't matter who who this person was they just don't matter the only person
00:38:26
that matters is him and his drug habit uh anyway Autry would testify that Zack later said that he took Holly Bobo's
00:38:37
body and left it in a spot near a place called kelly Ridge now the part we didn't get to yet is the actual
00:38:45
abduction what was presented at trial is that Zach Shane and Dylan so not Jason Autry not the guy that we just heard
00:38:52
from but Zachary Shane and Dylan went to Holly's residence supposedly to teach Clint Bobo how to make meth
00:39:01
right uh according to this story Holly came out of the home she's screaming and hollering at the guys and that's when
00:39:09
the men decided to abduct her uh the prosecution presented the this situation that Shane Austin the guy that hung
00:39:18
himself in the hotel uh was actually the man that Clint had seen walking Holly Bobo into the woods uh the reason why
00:39:27
they presented this is he's the only one that would fit the size of the person described by Clint
00:39:35
um and there's no easy way to say this but then the the three men Zachary Adams Dylan Adams and Shane Austin
00:39:45
they they sexually assaulted Holly in a barn that was owned by the grandmother of both Shane Austen and Jason Autry
00:39:53
remember their cousins right um it's not well you could call it sexual assault they raped her and right
00:40:01
her [ __ ] pieces of [ __ ] so the reason for this whole this all right look I watched enough of
00:40:10
this trial and I and I watched enough of Clint Bobo on the stand and seen him in
00:40:15
interviews closer to the time that his sister went missing in her abduction they weren't there to
00:40:22
you know I hate to break it to you bad guys but I maybe it makes for a good story for you dudes but you weren't
00:40:28
there to to teach Clint how to cook meth you weren't there for that reason these
00:40:33
three guys went there with the sole purpose of abducting this girl and had she not been there that day they would
00:40:40
have went back on another time and attempted to do it that day yeah it just so happened to be that Clint was home
00:40:46
and it and they could read that in the newspaper that Clint was there and described who was taking her into the
00:40:52
woods so they came up with a good story so when they needed somebody to help them dispose of a body it makes them
00:40:58
look like hey we didn't premeditate this thing this this thing just kind of happened
00:41:04
the other thing that comes up in uh Jason Autry's testimony is that at some point
00:41:11
Zachary Adams asked Jason Autry if he would kill his brother Dylan the reason for this is at some point in
00:41:21
the case you know we said Dylan had spoken to the police and gave them some kind of confession
00:41:27
well he was also kind of he wasn't very quiet about what had happened he was kind of telling other people as well
00:41:35
and Zachary Adams started getting worried and nervous that his brother was going to get them all caught so he asked
00:41:42
Jason Autry if he would kill Dylan Adams to which Jason Autry says let me think about it and I'll get back
00:41:49
to you okay um and at some point he actually takes Dylan on a he says a fishing trip on a boat
00:42:00
um and they're out fishing and Jason says on the stand I thought quite hard and good about making good on that on
00:42:08
that deal of killing Dylan when I was out there with him where the particulars of that remember we said that Zachary
00:42:14
Adams had leeched on to his grandfather and he would he would use him for money and to help him get out of trouble well
00:42:22
the grandfather had quite a bit of land and owned several homes and had quite a bit of money as well
00:42:28
Zachary Adams knew that his grandfather was close to dying he was he was in poor
00:42:33
health he was old and the promise that he made to Jason Autry was you know you kill my brother
00:42:40
and then after my grandfather dies I will give you some of the property maybe a house and split some of the money with
00:42:48
you right but he doesn't offer this deal just one time though no no he he he there's a few follow-up questions you
00:42:56
know every time they are together uh he he's going to ask Jason again Zach's going to ask Jason again what do you
00:43:04
what do you think about my offer what do you think about the deal that we talked
00:43:07
about and there's one particular time uh after their smoking meth together and Jason Autry tells Zach after
00:43:17
repeated questions about if he would kill Dylan he says you know what I I might take you up on that offer uh but
00:43:24
if I do you might be next saying that he would kill Zachary Adams uh some other evidence that was
00:43:32
presented at the trial there were two pieces of paper remember we talked about a receipt and a card from her school
00:43:39
that was found yeah these were actually found near they were found on a road where Shane Austin lived he's one of
00:43:47
he's the person that that hung himself uh the receipt was about 75 feet from Austin's driveway so they believed that
00:43:54
they went back there shortly after the abduction several other Witnesses testified that Zachary Adams made
00:44:03
statements implicating himself in Holly's disappearance one was Rebecca Erp this is Zach's ex-girlfriend she
00:44:10
says that Zach told her that he would tie her up just like he did Holly Bobo and nobody would ever see her again now
00:44:18
a 32 caliber Smith and Wesson long revolver was presented as evidence at trial now remember we said Victor
00:44:26
Dinsmore this is a guy that we haven't spoken about hardly at all but he is somebody that lately that just months
00:44:33
before the trial he's one of these guys that was granted immunity as well this is why because he led police to a
00:44:42
gun and said that Shane Austen and Jason Autry traded him the gun for drugs uh the gun was found under water so no DNA
00:44:52
or fingerprints were on the weapon you know this case I mean every case is difficult but this
00:44:59
one and and probably with everything going on in the world I mean is there any hope for Humanity at all uh
00:45:07
well I think you know let's talk about there's a people out there that have come to Zachary Adams defense
00:45:13
and said that he's innocent and of course his defense attorneys are going to try to
00:45:19
um make that happen in trial there are a lot of things that they presented and we'll go through those real quickly
00:45:25
first of all Holly Bobo's remains were found in a different location than what Jason Autry
00:45:32
had told the police it's unclear how the body ended up where it was ultimately found you had said earlier and I agree
00:45:40
with you maybe they moved it um meaning Zachary Adams and and the other guys I believe that you're probably right on
00:45:49
this situation I bet you that they they probably panicked and went back and moved it to a different location we've
00:45:57
seen this before in other crimes there was a palm print that was found on Holly's car
00:46:03
um all four men including Jason Autry Zachary Adams uh Dylan Adams Shane Austen they were all ruled out as
00:46:12
having contributed to that palm print but that palm print may have nothing to do with the actual case with with her
00:46:19
abduction at all yeah you can it could be anybody's palm print yeah the defense alleged that the state used unethical
00:46:27
investigatory techniques to coerce a confession from Dylan Adams so pay attention because this is where it gets
00:46:35
very strange in 2014 Dylan was arrested on federal gun charges that would have ended in a lengthy prison sentence the
00:46:44
prosecutor who was also handling the Holly Bobo case arranged a no jail plea deal on the condition that he go live
00:46:51
with a retired police officer this is Dennis Benjamin who Dylan Adams did not know at that time now five weeks later
00:46:59
after living with Dennis Benjamin Benjamin called 9-1-1 to report that he has someone in his home that wants to
00:47:06
confess to the murder of Holly Bobo despite the fact that this confession led to the arrest of the men much of
00:47:12
what he confessed to it did not match the evidence Dylan Adams States um he's a mentally disabled man
00:47:21
um and that they kept him up all night and would not give him anything to eat or drink
00:47:26
and this ended up in Dylan basically saying what do you want me to say right to the investigators uh claiming that he
00:47:34
would have said anything at that point um Jason Autry testified to a series of events that was drastically different
00:47:43
from Dylan Adams confession he testified that he himself was not involved in the
00:47:49
abduction okay so let's let's think about that for a minute we have this situation we have this Dylan Adams who's
00:47:55
eventually charged with rape and he's going to face trial at some point on these charges we said that he gave a
00:48:02
vague confession to police at that time he's saying it's under duress but you know know we've seen many times in a
00:48:10
case where somebody that is actually guilty of a lot more things will sit down with police and they will admit to
00:48:16
some of the things right and they might tell you who was involved but they're not actually going to implicate
00:48:22
themselves in any major crime being committed so I personally here's my vibe and what my gut tells me after watching
00:48:30
all of Jason Autry's testimony I believe him to be true I believe that that the majority of what he's saying is
00:48:39
fact and what actually happened right I have to believe that Dylan Adams in his vague confession that he gave to police
00:48:47
was there was probably some elements of truth to it um he named the people that would
00:48:53
ultimately be tried for this murder um but I think he was kind of making it up and
00:49:00
kind of weaving the story to paint himself in a much better light and therefore those stories are not going to match
00:49:07
right yeah now remember the Percy Brothers these were the ones that um the police thought had knowledge of some
00:49:15
kind of videotape showing Holly Bobo after she had been abducted that whole story
00:49:20
never came up in trial the state never brought it up uh there's no pending charges against the Percy
00:49:27
brothers so that thing seems to have kind of washed away um maybe it was just something that the
00:49:34
police got wrong um I can't fault them if they got it wrong maybe maybe they got it right I
00:49:39
don't know but this this Sandra King seems to have reason to maybe want to throw Jeffrey Percy under the bus
00:49:48
um apparently her son who's been in prison for like 14 years he still has 24 years left on his
00:49:57
sentence um there's rumor and rumbling that maybe she was getting some kind of deal to uh
00:50:04
implicate these two guys right and Holly Bobo's murder for a lesser sentence for
00:50:09
her son well it's this case is difficult because you know I applaud uh law enforcement
00:50:17
you know to try to do anything you can to um put bad guys behind bars but you have to do it legally right and
00:50:27
and you also can't you know how is that fair to the you know there's no justice there if if
00:50:34
somebody's going to give you a false confession so their son can get a lighter sentence that person had nothing
00:50:39
to do with this case they shouldn't be involved you know you know if if your mother wants to come forward and and
00:50:47
testify in a case fine but that has nothing to do with you now Zachary Adams defense alleged that
00:50:54
Jason Autry concocted this whole story in exchange for a reduced sentence uh and that only some of his story could be
00:51:02
corroborated well one thing regarding his testimony Jason Autry's testimony when he's asked why are you here why are
00:51:11
you testifying today he says because I'm hoping for uh leniency in my case I mean he's he's
00:51:19
outright about it he's like look dude I'm telling you what happened because now I'm going to beg the court for Mercy
00:51:26
when I go to trial uh for my involvement in this case yeah uh the state would also point out that
00:51:33
none of the men Accused by Jason Autry matched the witness description given by Clint Bobo
00:51:39
um they were all either Too Tall too slim or too heavy to be the abductor um as we said Shane Austin was the
00:51:47
correct height and weight but Clint described a man with dark hair that had covered his neck Shane had short red
00:51:54
hair um the problem with this and this is what the defense would claim is that you
00:52:00
know who that physical description matches it matches Terry Britt so Terry Britt he's the stalker sex offender
00:52:07
rapist that we've talked about in episode one his name appears in this trial because Zach's defense attorney
00:52:15
contends that the initial suspect in the case was Terry Britt and they said he's
00:52:20
the real killer uh noting that he had never been cleared by the TBI and in fact uh stating that it appears that the
00:52:29
government has more evidence of his guilt than it does of the three defendants charged in this case
00:52:34
according to John Walker who is a U.S Marshal Terry Britt actually offered a plea to plead guilty to murder at one
00:52:44
point uh Terry Britt could not be excluded as a contributor of the palm print that was found on Holly's car come
00:52:52
on like we said before or or at least I thought before I don't know if I said it
00:52:56
out loud but it's like when he came up as a suspect there was just so many things that at some point it's like this
00:53:02
is not a coincidence anymore something's going on here with this individual and it this case is very difficult because
00:53:09
with so many drug addicts it's like who do you believe right and and like and can you even believe
00:53:17
anything they say because of what state of mind were they in you know because like his whole story starts off with
00:53:23
yeah I went in got some drugs and I'm super drugged up and now I walk out and go hey uh you need me to help you bury
00:53:32
somebody all right you know but you just got done telling me you just did heroin
00:53:38
yeah so I I but again I can only go with my gut I sat through many hours of his testimony and I I believe Jason Autry to
00:53:46
be telling the truth or 95 of his testimony to be yeah the actual truth is very chilling I do want to uh what was
00:53:56
the verdict the verdict well on September 22nd of this year a jury found Zachary Adams guilty on all charges
00:54:04
including first degree murder especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape on September 23rd he was sentenced
00:54:12
to life in prison without parole and to consecutive terms of 25 years for both the kidnapping and rape convictions now
00:54:21
Jason Autry and John Dylan Adams also face charges in this case they will be tried separately uh and they have both
00:54:31
pled not guilty as did Zachary Adams now regarding before we move on though Captain I do want to mention that Terry
00:54:40
brick guy who's been sentenced to prison for multiple rapes yeah it's been known
00:54:45
to stalk women he was considered a suspect in this case I think he I think he should that was good work on the
00:54:50
police department's end and the tbi's end however I think at the end of the day they got their right guy and guys
00:54:58
for the Holly Bobo murder but this dude is set to be released from prison he's currently in prison right now but he's
00:55:05
set to be released next year from prison this is not a guy that you want on the streets this is not a guy that you want
00:55:12
living in your neighborhood with your daughters your wives your sisters your mothers any female at all
00:55:19
um if you live in that area I know here in Ohio we have block parole programs where you can sign petitions and give a
00:55:27
quick reason why you think an individual should not be paroled uh if you live in
00:55:32
the state of Tennessee and they have that there I recommend you sign your name on Terry Britt's paper yes sign
00:55:38
your real name sign your fake name sign your mom's name your cat's name yes my new cat's name
00:55:44
Jesus I I don't know I'm hey I've been bummed out by cases before but I don't know well so we have two
00:55:53
more trials in this case it'd be interesting to see what comes out because Jason Autry was not really
00:55:58
allowed per the agreement that they had and this and and what you can say and can't say in court he wasn't really
00:56:06
allowed to accuse Dylan Adams of much because Dylan was not on trial um but he will be so to be interesting
00:56:14
to see what Jason Autry says about uh Dylan Adams as I'm I'm guessing he would be the state's key witness in that trial
00:56:21
as well so it'd be interesting to see what sentences these guys get I think they're all very guilty and like you
00:56:27
said cases have made you depressed this is the thing I sat through a lot of this trial and and I I gotta tell you
00:56:35
man it has affected me terribly I I feel like I have some kind of mild form of PTSD from this thing I can only imagine
00:56:43
well I can't I can't imagine right what the Bobo family uh I mean one for this experience to happen to
00:56:53
lose a daughter and then so many years later to have to sit through the trial and hear what happened
00:57:00
I mean I just you're it just breaks your heart it absolutely breaks your heart well so hopefully there's updates soon
00:57:06
on these trials and now once we hear something uh we'll let you guys know as well uh do we have a recommended reading
00:57:13
for this week uh yes Captain I'm excited about this one this just came out about
00:57:17
a week or so ago I'm in the middle of it right now I'm loving it this week we are
00:57:21
recommending murder in Visalia the coin dealer Killer by Ron colliard uh this is
00:57:28
about a stamp and coin dealer who was gunned down in front of his shop I'm sorry inside his shop the police linked
00:57:34
this murder to a death in another jurisdiction because just two months earlier the body of a coin dealer in
00:57:41
another city was found locked in the trunk of his car this book is great it covers the entire investigation from
00:57:47
crime scenes to Witnesses and autopsies so check out murder in Visalia the coin dealer Killer by going to our
00:57:55
